Incident Causer Mayhem!

Wee, another contest! This time starring... All the final bosses of the Touhou project!
Let's just hop right into it.

Objective:
Recreate a boss fight against any final boss of the Touhou project.

Rules:

  • You must make the boss at least 2non/3 spellcards long, but cannot exceed 6nons/6spellcards long(Last Spells not included).
NOTE: If your boss has a pattern that first starts as a nonspell and then transitions into a spell, it is considered a spell.

  • Only one boss per script.
NOTE: If you have a stage, you can have a midboss, the midboss will not count towards your nonspell/spell count, however it can only be a maximum of 1non/1spell long
NOTE: You also cannot have a cameo of a boss(like Hourai Elixir)
  • Konngara,Sariel, Mima, Yumemi, Yuuka, Shinki, Remilia, Yuyuko, Eirin, Kaguya, Suika, Eiki, Kanako, Tenshi, Utsuho, Byakuren, Miko, Kokoro and Shinmyoumaru are the only characters you can choose from.

Reccomendations:

  • Focus on patterns first, and effect later.
  • Just because I said RECREATE doesn't mean rip off the spells of the boss, be ORIGINAL, but still true to the character
  • Try to go for the maximum
  • Dialogue is always fun, too, but is not needed
  • Also have fun!

Due date: NOVEMBER 10TH 2014 Countdown Timer (http://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/to?iso=20141110T00&p0=159&msg=ICM+Countdown%21&csz=1&swk=1)
Also, I haven't talked to my friend that usually judges with me in a long time, so I am looking for a judge to help.
[/list]

I have a 5-day weekend coming up next week, so count me in!

I don't really know the idiomatic method for displaying spellcard names or even a full boss battle in general, though.

Ooohoohooo definitely count me in.  If it's possible to make the due date some time past November 5th, that'd be great.  I won't have a whole lot of free time on hand until then.

Haha, well it is a time to learn.

Since I'm 100% not going to have time to participate, I might as well help judge.

EDIT: I cannot judge due to my inability to run 0.12m.

Also, I will only do videos for these scripts if the following are taken into consideration:
-ph3
-script is not full of bugs (if it is, then you won't score so high anyways)
-script is well-balanced and playable for an Easy/Normal mode player (again, if you fail to do this...)

***"Not Submitted" will only be replaced by "Submitted" with a link to your script IF AND ONLY IF you have publicly stated your submission. The contents of this post are not official and should not be assumed to be such. HOWEVER, all links are set to project and not version, so they will automatically redirect to the latest version of a script as long as the creator does not delete the entire project and recreate it under a different name.

Because technically Reimu isn't a final boss, only in the cases where the final boss is the playable character.

Rejected. She's Aya's final boss in Scarlet Weather Rhapsody.

But that's just me being difficult. I've already started on a different Miko.

That's what I mean. IaMP, POFV, and SWR. But it's kind of having the "canon" final bosses. Canon being Reimu, which is most accepted for canon

  • If your boss has a pattern that first starts as a nonspell and then transitions into a spell, it is considered a spell.

-Added a clarification note:

If we're getting into technicals, I might as well just ask. Are we permitted to make a stage? If so is a midboss permitted? Finally, and this is really just for confirmation, would a cameo spellcard (like Hourai Elixir, Royal Clan's Chaotic Dance, or Joruri World) be considered as having multiple bosses in one script?

I guess I'll jump in. Gonna do it on 0.12, though.

EDIT: Forgot to clarify I'll vote for Yuuka.

- I'll allow a stage with a midboss, and the midboss will not count towards your non/spell counts
- I'll just say no here, because only 2 of the final bosses actually do that.

Are the entries rated solely by the scripts or do you get extra points is you re-create boss sprites, cut-in and theme song (not using the ones from original Touhou games)? Also, can we use the CtC Shot Replace?

The judging would be like 95% patterns/playability, and 5% would be extra stuff(mainly to settle tied scores)

Ok. Well, I already made the sprites and stuff. It feels more original when you use resources that you made instead of ripping them off from the games.

By the way; Is there any preferred difficulty level, or is the only rule that it has to be beatable with skill (Instead of luck)?

...If it can only be beaten by luck, then you may want to reconsider how you're making your script. XD

Make an account on Bulletforge and upload your script there. Please note a few things about contests:
1) No public reviews of scripts are allowed before the contest deadline, as it may affect the opinion of judges. All feedback (especially bug reports) should be PMmed to the scripter.
2) Avoid using gigantic music files, and please do not use absolute pathing. This will make your script more appealing from the get-go
3) This is an opportunity to show off your skills. Remember that although this is a competition, the aim is not to beat others but to do the best you can, try to be as creative as possible, and create a script that you can be proud of.

And, most importantly, have fun. I suggest using Danmakufu ph3 since that's the current engine, although 0.12m is easier for newbies (they will move on to ph3 regardless)

How about it doesn't matter? It's not like ill disqualify someone. I mean then 2nd versions should be banned, then. Some people don't have people readily accesible to test a script, because not everyone wants Skype or to go to the IRC chat.

I'm just repeating what Helepolis said a year ago - he cleaned up at least 3 posts that had feedback on them. As long as it's not public it's fine.

As long as it's not posted on here it should be fine. I don't see an issue of posting it on bulletforge or something if that's your only way.

That rule isn't a global rule nor enforced by any means. How this contest is run and what rules apply should be decided by PhantomSong. He is responsible for the rules, updates, organisation etc. Also, afaik it wasn't due to possibly affecting opinions of judges, but more like unwanted noise.

For this contest, I consider PhantomSong's decision to be final, regardless of anybody's opinion.

But in Hard there is maybe some little bugs on the last nonspell (I think). When Kanako go on the right/left edge on the screen, a part of the bullets are'nt spawned and it make the nonspell easier than the normal version.

It happens in both Normal and Hard, and since they're all aimed anyways, I don't think there is a difficulty change. I can fix it though.

1000-sun-studio> I found no bugs (even I found the player hitbox a bit... strange)  but... it's harder than the first version isn't it?

TresserT> Good Kanako. The fight is interesting but it's HAAAAAARD. Even in the easiest mode. But it's cool and good looking (and the last spell is good but a bit too long I think)

Yukkuri_Yukkuri_Yukkuri> I guess you must add that to the description. And add an explanation for how to add this shot replace (put this in a lib folder in the danmakufu main forlder). It's explained nowhere and it's not evident ^^
The script isn't bad but a bit too random and hard (thanks to the 0.12m debug key). Randoms lasers in the second nonspell ruin the pattern looking I think. And they are not really dangerous.
And Remilia have a lot of life and some nonspell are loooooong (and I use an overcheated player with a overcheated bomb... and it's not sufficient ><).
(sorry for my bad english).

And it's unrelated with this contest but anyone can open a contest like this of it's only reserved to some people (like PhantomSong)?

Contests are free to be run by anybody. All that we (moderation team) request is serious dedication whoever wishes to hold one. Meaning you're responsible for a good contest from begin until the end.

There is no specific approval rule or conditions to be met (yet). As soon as I notice structured post with rules/deadlines and people who show interest, I'll sticky the thread. From there it is left to the community to figure it out.

The only preferred "rule" would be perhaps 1 contest at a time because making dnh scripts takes time and spamming contests might be overburdening the people.

Randoms lasers in the second nonspell ruin the pattern looking I think. And they are not really dangerous.

The lasers are supposed to limit your movement. I guess I should add something to prevent you from getting out of the way so easily (or completely replace them).

And Remilia have a lot of life and some nonspell are loooooong (and I use an overcheated player with a overcheated bomb... and it's not sufficient ><).

I did set Remilia's damage rate for bombs pretty low. I didn't want players to "bomb through" the attacks. I take bombs as a way to escape death rather than a attack that takes like ~75% of the boss's health. I guess I could make some of the attacks shorter. I'll see what I can do before the deadline.

It would be even better if you had just included it in your script to begin with instead of having players download a separate file.

I would also like to reiterate that when it comes time for judging if your script doesn't run for any reason it will likely be disqualified so be extra careful. Do not use absolute file paths and do not use libraries and shot sheets that are not included with the script or at the very least linked somewhere that we can see.

1000-sun-studio> I found no bugs (even I found the player hitbox a bit... strange)  but... it's harder than the first version isn't it?

Thanks for the feedback. If the current version wound up more difficult, then I would like to apologize.

Not to sound a bit childish, but tbh I'm a bit unclear where to redirect my efforts. Is there any point in the script  where the difficulty was unfair, or where it took away from the script? Are there any specific spells/nonspells that need re-balancing or patterns that need re-worked?

I'll drop this in.
Any scripts that uses absolute pathing WILL have a high chance of being disqualified. So please use relative pathing.
Our moderator Helepolis has made a mini-tutorial on pathing and directories. (https://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,4752.msg230367/topicseen.html#msg230367) a long time ago and it applies to both .12m and PH3. Please use it.

Nope. Difficulty is very good like that. I only lose one or two lives on a run. I just notice that's a bit harder than the previous version. But no difficulty problem and no unfair. Your script is really good on this point.

Quote from: Helepolis
Contests are free to be run by anybody. All that we (moderation team) request is serious dedication whoever wishes to hold one. Meaning you're responsible for a good contest from begin until the end.

There is no specific approval rule or conditions to be met (yet). As soon as I notice structured post with rules/deadlines and people who show interest, I'll sticky the thread. From there it is left to the community to figure it out.

The only preferred "rule" would be perhaps 1 contest at a time because making dnh scripts takes time and spamming contests might be overburdening the people.
Thanks for the answer.
Oh and I don't make a contest right now. I know that multiple constest at the same time doesn't work well :/
I'll wait a while before I try to make a contest.

which means entries 2 second late will be accepted, however entries 1 second late will be immediately disqualified

I'll note one more thing. I will make an official post when entries will no long accepted.

Regarding videos I do: I will be making videos of all FINAL versions. This means that if either I or you, the scripter, are not satisfied with the script once entries are due, I will be willing to do a video of a new version released AFTER JUDGING HAS BEEN COMPLETED.

Preferably, I would like to make videos of all scripts that I have not rejected for whatever reason that are of the version submitted for the contest.

[On this note, I will be retesting a number of scripts/ranting at participants to fix bugs that ruin the player's experience]

Fixed a few more last-minute errors, including (0,0) spawning on Non03 and adjusting curve rates and instances on Spell03. I also added Yuyuko's name underneath her life stock, mostly as a little fluff for the script.

Not gonna lie, this whole process is really fun. Thank you, Phantom, for this opportunity.

----- EDIT -----

This will be my final version, unless anyone has any last-minutes bugs, errors, or stylistic nitpicks with the script.

As well as containing links to my videos (which should link to all other videos of a script as long I am subscribed to your channel/find it on bulletforge) and links to the entries, it now contains a quick PM button that links directly to a scripter's forum profile (IE it's not an instant PM but makes it significantly easier to PM someone in the contest).

I hope that people find this useful for feedback/other miscellaneous uses.

Goldstein-Izayoi> I enjoy it. Not too easy, not too hard. But there are heavy graphic bugs on the STG frame. It's a real eye-rape at the end :(

Sariel> It's fun too but a bit hard, even in normal mode (especially the spell before the last word. It's a pain in hard ><). And I don't know if there are bugs but there is no NULLITY sign on lives/bombs during the lastword and during the spell before the last word Shinki had astar in her life-counter. Normally there is no life in the life counter during this kind of spell.
Oh and you make the same mistake than me. Your shot SFX is VERY too loud. Please fix it :'(
But it's cool and spell are nice.

I use Danmakufu 0.12 for years and I never have a such bug. And I never run it with AppLocale. I test the ICM Remilia script recently and I have no bug.
I think it's just a very strange random bug. Don't care about that ^^
And I don't blame seriously danmakufu ^^

This is NOT a graphical bug. This is due to the way 0.12m handles the score numbers. Depending on the level you placed your STG_Frame on, the numbers may act weird. Also, on the pause menu, this is much more likely.

In other words, this is not a bug. It is something that the scripter has to figure out.

What are you talking about? You can't control the layer that the default STG frame is in on 0.12m.

But if you use your own (IE made of effect objects), you can partially control how your STG_Frame is rendered, right?
Title: Re: Incident Causer Mayhem! (Danmaku Contest)
Post by: Lefkada on November 09, 2014, 04:16:12 PM
I think it's really a bug. Actually it's juste the default stg frame (even if I change the graphic) and it do this kind of thing on every script. And it's also perfectly normal in fullscreen.

Post by: 7636kei on November 09, 2014, 04:20:40 PM
In other words, this is not a bug. It is something that the scripter has to figure out.

And to think it was caused by factors out of the scripter's control when the scripter don't even touch it. I beg to differ.

One reason of why I've yet to encounter that phenomenon is that I always run it under AppLocale. (With English locale, I've never get it working in Win7 without AppLocale; perhaps I can watch replays, but that's it; the first page of player page contains the four default players, and that's where it went down, I guess. I don't know if it was running fine in Win8 without AppLocale)

Ephy/Lefkada: You have been temporarily denied a video due to your use of absolute pathing in the version of your script that comes without danmakufu - Honestly, there are multiple Konngara scripts, so I'm sort of pissed that you just (#Image["script/Konngara_script/ICMC.png"])'ed me even after PhantomSong made it clear that you should not be using absolute pathing. Also, I have no clue which link comes with danmakufu - the standalone shouldn't have the bug.

I will make a video for your script once I get the standalone, but in my video, there will be no download link because you have so many different versions floating about.

Your video has been moved to the end of the queue.

I know for the absolute pathing but I can't use relative pathing. I try to fix it but I can't use relative pathing with my include. Actually I have no idea how to get properly the root folder and use it in all the includes. I work on it but I just can't find any solution.

For includes and #header things, use ./ to start and ./../ to move back one directory from the file the script is in.
For paths passed into functions, use GetCurrentScriptDirectory~"<rest of path>"

Also, thank you for pointing out which version to use. I will update my post as well.

These version are the same at danmaku level. The 1.01c had just a cleaner code and some path modification. I dont change the 1.01b because it work well and I don't want to add some unexcepted bugs.

Thanks for the explainations about pathing. It's helpful (especially the ./../). I try this and it seems it work.

I'm late but here a version with full relative pathing:

Oh, I see. That's fine, I guess. More specifically, it's a Land of Fans and Music arrange.

And I never noticed that the 3rd spell hadn't had bomb resistant bullets. Oops.

Apparently your script uses files that do not exist?

Note that just because you have added files to your default system, it does not mean that everyone else has done the same.

Also, since I don't know if this is the shot sheet I used to use or perhaps something completely different, I can't fix it on my own, so you have been denied a video until you fix it (if you decide to fix it) after judging has been completed.

I feel like you're hypocritical. You tell people to read readmes, but you never do.
It states to put the included shot data files in your Default system

OK. I don't like the fact that he could have just
Code: [Select]
#include "./Shot Data (REQUIRED)/ZUNShot_Const.txt" instead of
Code: [Select]
#include "script/default_system/ZUNShot_Const.txt", but sure.

Welp, maybe he didn't know how to anyway.

Heh heh, I didn't take into account that some people wouldn't bother with the readme. I changed my include path, so it should work now. Sorry for the confusion!

EDIT @ Nov 13, 2014: 12:03PM
Trickysticks has done videos for some of the 0.12m entries. I will link those in the post with all the video links.

Indeed, I made videos of all of the 0.12m contest entries. The playlist is here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99asc6CxQ1E&list=PL_Oi9pux8kOnFmEcQWDM56rNtJWDMQFaN).

The fps gets a tiny bit choppy at times but regardless I think it'll complement Sparen's videos of the ph3 scripts.

Baron Blade: You have some issues with Nonspell 3's path to the shot sheet.

However, I fixed it and got a replay, so you should have a video out soon.

-I managed to obtain a good replay of Sariel's Shikieiki, so that will be done soon. Arby26's script will have a video once he has released the newest version.

That concludes my videos for the ICM Contest. A reminder that the post linked above contains all the videos.

To use a video preview on Bulletforge, go to "Edit Project" and follow the directions for the video section. Note that it is recommended that you use your own video if you have one, and not to use Kirakishou's videos, as you cannot link to a specific time point using Bulletforge's video preview system.

For those thinking "Hey results will be over the weekend!" I apologize, I have Trimester finals, but (hopefully)soon after Tuesday! I promise I will get my judgements done! I already have the Engine Includeds and the .12m scripts judged, just got to do the PH3 scripts!

Wow, 2 weeks passed by real fast...
I couldn't finish my entry in time, due to time constraints in real life, but here it is

http://www.bulletforge.org/u/gtbot/p/short-yumemi-battle/ (http://www.bulletforge.org/u/gtbot/p/short-yumemi-battle/)

No way do I expect it to be judged or ranked, although I still do want to share it. :)

It froze ^_^. Highest difficulty, froze upon end of first non spell

Following is the error:

Code: [Select]
err:seh:setup_exception_record stack overflow 1472 bytes in thread 0009 eip 7bc322ef esp 00230d70 stack 0x230000-0x231000-0x330000
Welp stack overflow. What kind of crazy things does the difficulty meter control?

EDIT: Also froze with diff = 50. Going to peruse your code.

Heh...

I've never gotten that error, although you may want to try lowering the effects in the Options menu. (might've been from the high number of break effects at the end of the nonspell).

The difficulty controls various things, but in general you can expect a higher number of bullets and increased bullet speeds with higher difficulties.

Edit: Oh is that so? That's odd then. I'll look into it.

Diff 50 - High Effect - DDC Lifebar [StackOverflow]
Diff 50 - Normal Effect - DDC Lifebar [StackOverflow]
Diff 10 - No Effect - UFO Lifebar [StackOverflow]

My sincerest apologies.
My computer is having some issue and I can't judge, so I am going to get everything from my other judges and announce the winner when my new modem box comes in.
I apologize for the extreme inconvenience.
