Five Night's at Freddy is an indie horror game that came out earlier this month. It is currently very popular with the big name Lets Players on youtube.

Welcome to your new summer job at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, where kids and parents alike come for entertainment and food as far as the eye can see! The main attraction is Freddy Fazbear, of course; and his two friends. They are animatronic robots, programmed to please the crowds! The robots' behavior has become somewhat unpredictable at night however, and it was much cheaper to hire you as a security guard than to find a repairman.
From your small office you must watch the security cameras carefully. You have a very limited amount of electricity that you're allowed to use per night (corporate budget cuts, you know). That means when you run out of power for the night- no more security doors and no more lights! If something isn't right- namely if Freddybear or his friends aren't in their proper places, you must find them on the monitors and protect yourself if needed!
Can you survive five nights at Freddy's?
The game has become very popular among let's players, PewDiePie, Markiplier, and Game Grumps have all made videos on it. It also has a lot of fanart for a game that came out less than 3 weeks ago, most likely due to its current trendiness in the chans.

When I first heard about this game I had thought it to be another crappy horror game with cheap jumpscares... however while it still has the jumpscares, after watching the whole game (I dare not play most horror games) I'm very surprised at how unique the way the game is played. Just watching it and if you can get into it you can feel the stress the game can make because of how random everything seems and you could die at any point. It's like a indie horror management game, and you have to be on your toes at all times. But the one weakness the game ends up having is once you figure out how the mechanics works it's then all about either a tiny bit of luck but hoping your have enough power to last the night. Apparently the dev is already making a second game, not to sure what direction you would take it unless you go either the lazy route and reuse the same mechanic or figure out on how to advance and better the game.
Overall I enjoyed watching it for the fear feeling but I wouldn't want to play it, mostly because I get paranoid very easy. =D

This is not the first game that Scott Cawthorn (FN@F's developer) has made.

The atmosphere is the proper one which all horror games should have. Ignoring the premise and that jump scares are still a cheap tactic, it's an okay game. Went from all sci-fi robotics in nature to just paranormal however.

I don't think the jump scares are bad here since they mostly happens if you mess up and you as the player actively try to prevent them from happening in the first place.
Also, despite the implied deaths, this game is surprisingly not gory or bloody even though it would have been easy to go this way.
Also there is a decent amount of fanart for this game, including a good amount of super cute stuff (http://quiixotic.deviantart.com/art/five-days-at-freddy-s-475979274). ^^
Some say it's a coping mechanism. X D
Oh, also thanks to this game we have this epic reaction face (http://youtu.be/VXtVrNdD3YA?t=10m10s) (Warning : spoiler for the 5th night).
-
fun fact: the five nights at freddy's developer is anti-choice and has been rumored to donate money to pro-life organizations
do with that info as you will
-
I watched some videos of this and I am not impressed in any way. That said; these sorts of over-reacting LP'ers automatically make any game worse.

It's a shame, too, because I can see that this game does a very good job of giving you the feeling that you need to survive and are threatened at all times. The game even has a bit where you can hope against all hope when everything shuts down and is at it's bleakest and just barely manage to get through.
-
Most horror-style games do that; it's part of the Genre.
And really all that final bit means is really you have to budget your power survive until 5:30.
-
well, I guess my standards might be off kilter because my usual standards for survival horror games is how stupid and wacky they can be, rather than if they actually get a legitimate scare out of me.

A sequel trailer is out...

Is there any footage of the first game that doesn't have some shitty human being's awful reactions all over it? I hate let's plays.

Well from a business standpoint a squeal is a smart move considering how popular youtube made it. But something I recently watched kinda make the first game made me respect it a bit even if it IS just a theory. If there are any who are familiar with MatPat from The Game Theorists recently did a GT on Five Night at Freddy's and how it's really close to a actual murder case of a Chuck e Cheese. I find it very interesting and rather unsettling compared to the first time I saw the game.

Oh and the beginning isn't actually a Let's Play, he's poking fun at all of it. Rather funny IMO.
-
the only thing about this game I truly hate is the disgusting elitism surrounding the people that put themselves up on a pedestal by being unreasonably antagonistic towards it

Wait what? I'm not I understand fully on the point... ???

He hates the mega-haters.
I don't have an issue with the game I have an issue with the over-reacting personalities who Let's Play the game. Especially since 99% of the time said over-reactions are over-done and the joke is old. And the majority of them are PewDiePie wannabes which makes them even more obnoxious.
In fact the sort of 'read between the lines and look carefully for DARK STORY' and 'Make your own mind up on this' is the sort of storytelling mechanics I like in games. For example; major reason I like Touhou is because of the vaugeness which allows for fan theories, I love the ability to peice together things and come to your own conclusions. Games like Drakenguard has the hidden between the lines DARK STORY [And the not hidden DARK STORY]. If horror/jumpscares were my genre I'd actually probobly have brought the game myself and played it myself.

I just don't want to listen to some brodude sperglord with his mic way too close to his mouth blabbing away over top of gameplay footage that I want to watch.

Just saw the trailer of this on TwistedGrimTV Youtube Channel and though I should post it.

I think my only attachment to the series is through Game Theory, we just got FNAF2! (kinda...)

I can't remember my source on this but...
Third game takes place 30 years in the future - 2023 if I heard right - and takes place in a haunted house show that wants to recreate the creepyness and the stories created by the whole "MURDERS" and "ANIMATRONICS" and "SPIRITS" thing

Oh... i just read this over here:
The mystery of "Five Nights At Freddy's 3" compounds when one reads the newly emerged Steam Greenlight page for the project. In a short paragraph, Scott outlines a vague story synopsis for the upcoming experience. Thirty years after Freddy Fazbear's Pizza has closed, a group of horror fans use the restaurant to create "Fazbear's Fright: The Horror Attraction." At first only one animatronic is salvaged, until a "remarkable discovery" paves the way for other terrifying happenings.
Apparently i was wrong... well i have a feeling Mat Pat will make a theory for this one as well...
-
oh hey a new one just came out
-
Coming soon to a theater near you... (http://www.pcgamer.com/five-nights-at-freddys-is-coming-to-the-big-screen/)
-
I'm just going to assume a movie would be nothing like the game itself.
Could be interesting if they built on the murder mystery aspect, but meh.
-
Where did everything go so wrong?
-
Played it. It's a shining example how fandom can ruin a good game ;u;
-
A trailer for 4 appears...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-taWymx1WI
Looks like a definite (and welcome) shift in how the game plays.
-
Aparently, you will actually be able to move, which is going to add a ton of new strategy elements, specially if different Animatronics have different behaviors such as Foxy.
Really interested in the story in this game, apparently the game does not take place in a Pizzaria, it takes place in the security guy's house.
-
Scott says "Oh hai FNAF4's release date is... TODAY!"
-
I've only played the second one and a demo of the third one. I think it's interesting that there's a story to it and I like the atmosphere.

It actually takes place in a kid's house.

A FNAF World (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsaXgePC2No) Trailer is out.
...
wtf?
-
Well at least Scott's pretty well aware that he's doing something...different. :V
-
Had read about Fnaf World somewhere, possibly at Fnaf 4 Steam page, it looks different that's for sure but it's definatly a breath of fresh air to the Fnaf series and i mean literally, such a dramatic change of tone... but i think it's for the better, at least i will finaly be able to play a Fnaf game without jumpscares and best of all it's in rpg form
:V :V :V
I hope it has a good story or at least continues the story or something.
Either way i am looking forward to Fnaf World :] :] :]
