Shortly before midnight EDT on Friday, Psy's "Gangnam Style" video reached its 2,000,000,000th view on YouTube and is nearly double the current #2 (and former #1) video, Justin Beiber's "Baby".
In a interesting related note, it seems that the popularity of K-Pop in general is exploding, especially in recent years. More about that in this CNet article (http://www.cnet.com/news/as-gangnam-style-hits-2b-youtube-views-music-fans-should-cheer-really/).

damn people still listen to gangnam style?
-
This was two years ago. Time goes by really quickly, doesn't it.
-
Quick! Someone calculate how much time people have spent listening to just this video.
-
Huh. Didn't Psy himself "kill" Gangnam Style?

The video is 4:12 long, which is 252 seconds.
As of the time I looked at the view count, it had 2,002,354,844 views.
252 * 2002354844 = 504,593,420,688 seconds.
504593420688 / 60 = 8,409,890,344.8 minutes
8409890344.8 / 60 = 140,164,839.08 hours
140164839.08 / 24 ≈ 5,840,202 days
5840202 / 365 = 16,000.6 years + approx. 11 years in leap days = approximately 16,012 years.
16,012 years of time have been spent watching this video. That's literally more years spent watching this video than years that have been recorded in history.
Why.

That doesn't even consider all the derivatives and mashups, like Bill Psy The Gangnam Guy.
At least it deserves it's #1, unlike Bieber.
The fact 'Baby' has a billion views as well scares me. Not as much that it's the least liked video on youtube, but still.

Funny enough, that "Zwarte Pieten" version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LurEuv7LjMU) (click at your own risk) has over 11 million views.

Germany didn't help :derp: Neither of the both got any views of German Internet users :dealwithit:

And this only counts UNIQUE views. Not total views.
2/7ths of the world has watched Gandam style. And that's before counting multiple people who saw it at the same PC.

No, it's not unique and it's not total, it's some Google-algorithm that mixes the two to get an accurate not-game-y result.
...That unfortunate moment when you're looking for a Gundam Style parody but get more people who can't get the name right. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xt_2v3T_yD8) It exists, it's just harder to find. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRN-IrejBTw)

Youtube has tried to make it as close to total as possible, so it effectively can be taken as total. You wouldn't take into account people refreshing the page to inflate view counts as having watched the video would you?

Psy is a cool dude.

I wonder how many views the Macarena would have gotten back in the day.
