The wait begins for the rest of the world, eager to flood GTS with 6IV everythings.

Battles & Stuff
I'll start a list of people here who can battle so they can sort themselves. Just post your timezone and times/days which you would usually be available to pit your imaginary monsters against each other. You should also throw in the format you can play, since surprisingly there are people who play Triple and Rotation.
FamilyTeam: Sat/Sun 8:00 - 23:00 UTC+3
Phlegeth: Anytime but 16:00 - 22:00 UTC-10
-
Oh hey, I never added mine to this.
Exuro, friend code is 4785-5747-1485, X version.
-
Breaking news mate: You typed the wrong bloody address on the old thread. It just leads to an empty page. I won't post my FC because it's already on the list.
Also, look at this cute little drawing that a girl named Briella Wand on Facebook made of my character: (Look at it because I said so)
And yeah, about the tournament I was talking about on the last thread: I'm going to be free to battle on Saturdays and Sundays pretty much all day: Between 8:00 and 23:00 UTC3 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UTC%E2%88%9203:00). I may be able to battle on Friday Night too, but that's not a guarantee.
Something very imporant that I almost forgot to mention is that it will be DayLight Saving Time on Brazil up to around mid-February, so until then, I'll tecnically be up to battle between 9:00 and 24:00, but my clock will say its an hour earlier.
-
I'm up for a battles or whatever. I'm -5:00 EST. I work evenings, so from like 1600-2200 is usually a bad time.
-
Now that my team is done I guess my next project is to make a perfect copy of every single Poison Pokemon (even the terrible ones). I play against a lot of people who aren't "competitive", so it would be nice to have some backup options for if I want to power down my team, and it would give me options for rotation battles, which have been weirdly popular around here recently and which my current team is very poorly suited to.
I think the only thing I need at that point is a Speed Boost Whirlipede, so if anyone has one, I'll trade for it.
-
The way Metagross enters a battle looks really cool.
On the topic of time: Timezone is UTC+1 and if I know in advance I usually have free time for stuff. But in general I can be online as long as it isn't in the dead of night. :V
Also my version is Y and in-game name Kazami. (since that is still missing. :p)
-
The nerf that Hydreigon got this generation was fucking stupid. I still use it and I can still do well with it, but really, why does the Fairy Type
exists in the first place is strong against Dark Types and resists Bug types? When on EARTH is this balancing? It's not like Bug was underpowered enough?
-
The resistance to Bug seems kind of unreasonable when looking at the Fairy type with its motifs of moon and purity and as such not really being related to bugs in a way it would resist. (If I were to be silly I could say that certain insects are active at night and for that Bug should resist Fairy. :V)
But Bug type seems to be what Steel and Poison used to be in terms of offense: Niche since too many commonly seen resistances and what it hits effectively is covered by different types. (Also most Grass types have a weird type combination that then still isn't weak against Bug)
-
All I can say is: Game Freak is probably taking balancing lessons from Valve and Infinity Ward.
HEY GUYS, I have news for the "time I'm up to battle" thing: On Saturdays, I'll probably have Japanese classes between 14:00 and 16:00, so yeah, I won't be able to battle on that time frame. Don't update the list, tough, since i don't really know if I'll have them. I'll touch again on the subject when I get more information on it.
-
Bug is strictly a STAB type outside of U-turn. You can compare it to Psychic. No one uses Psychic as coverage.
Hydration, though nerfed, still is good as long as you take out their Fairy type.

Yeah, not only that, I find that my Hydra outspeeds most fairy types anyway, so I can simply U-Turn out into something better for the situation.
Also, I created an account on Smogon, and I decided to post my team on the Rate My Team board to see what the Smogonites there think. No one has posted anything in my thread, and it's been over a day that it's there. I mean, I know my team is good, but it isn't PERFECT, and I didn't post it there just to catch praises to it!

Fairy has a lot of things that don't make sense since it's a balance bandage.
The Bug resist is intended as a nerf to U-Turn spam. Just like being outright immune to Dragon; while being weak to Poison and Steel; and resisted by Fire [Regarded as a bad defense type]
Actually when I think about it; something really bugs me about Steel resisting Psychic.
You think of Gen 1 Psychics. Ignore Mewtwo. Who comes to mind?
Alakazam.
What is Alakazam doing?
Holding spoons. Which it bends with it's mind.
Hell the Psychic-boost item is a TWISTEDSPOON.
Now think about that; and ask: How is Steel resistant to Psychic again? Oh wait; Steel and Dark were put in specifically to nerf Psychics. [Dark made sense to complete the Fear Trio of weaknesses]

Also, I still haven't bred my team. Goddammit, I don't have much time left. It doesn't help either that I decided to change from Haxorus to Hydreigon. I alteast hope breeding it won't be difficult, since I already have a 5IV Axew, and it is in the same egg group. NO WAIT OF COURSE IT WILL BE, I'm trying to breed a 5IV Gligar, the parents are a 5IV Scyther -(HP) and a 2 IV Gligar (-ATK,DFC,SPATK,SPDFC,) And yet the best baby I got has 3 IVs, and I can't use because it has Hyper Cutter. Marvelous, thanks stupid RNG.
-
It is so great when you want to try out your weird-as-fk set containing attract and setup for following team members and everyone you face either has a team of 6 legendaries without gender, carries only male mons or leads with something that isn't impressed by taunt.
What are the odds.
Oh, and somebody quasi-swept my team using Sheer Cold. Lovely.
RNG really tends to like me a lot lately in battle. At least I seem to get lucky with breeding. :V
And the thing with the spoons never crossed my mind.
-
By sheer (sorry for the pun Yookie, I think that memory will be like a flashback to 'nam to you) dumb luck I was able to get a 6IV Gligar with Immunity here. Now all I need is Rotom and I'll be golden!
Wait...
OH YOU MOTHERFU-
DOES ANYONE HAPPEN TO HAVE A DITTO FRIEND SAFARI HERE?
-
Ya, thanks. :V
And good luck with the Rotom. (Prepare your directional pad)
Also: Thanks to the random person i got that Feebas from through wonder trade. Milotic ist just so good.
-
I looked at the Glilgar's nature.
It was Quiet.
I forgot to put the everstone in it.
I've never regreted not putting an Everstone in a Pokemon so much before.
-
Special
sweeper Gligar go!
I absolutely didn't notice that I already have 16 Mons in my roster. :V
And stall battles are fun (really, no sarcasm). Thankfully I have an endless supply of patience.
But I still couldn't get my Attract-setup Noivern to work. I'll just keep him in that sixth slot till it does.
-
Okay, I finally got an Impish 5IV Gligar (-SPATK) with Immunity! Anyone here wants the 6IV One? I'll wonder trade it at the next Weekend if none of you claim it.
-
Well, I'd take it. I can offer a Ferroseed (with Leachseed and Stealrock), Incay,
Litwick (with Clear Smog) and/or Noybat each with 5 IV and useful nature.
Anybody else who wants one, feel free to message me.

Okay then. I guess it's fair, since you gave me that perfect Pampampampampam. I'll send you the invite ASAP. That Litwick would be nice.
-
I feel like a bad person because I had my Vespiquen with +6 in both defenses on the field and my opponent couldn't kill it but he had 2 Steel types, a Gliscor and Heal Bell so I couldn't really toxic him but had to stall with Infestation, just used up his PP with Pressure and stretched the battle to more than 20 minutes this way. :V Nothing died, he gave up. (This is why you should always have a Hazer kids! (or toxic, but I got paralyzed by a random bodyslam anyway.))
And Zorua looks so damn smug.
-
Is there a Physical Sweeper that's Steel type and it is NOT Scizor or Lucario? Someone FINALLY posted on my thread and said that having Lucario and Scizor on a team is kind of a waste, and he recommended Staraptor. I used Staraptor in 3 battles, I lost ALL of them and all of them I was missing Scizor. He also told me that I had to use Mega Evolution on Lucario. Since people telling me that I have to use Mega Evolution in one of my Pokemon was REALLY start to get on my bloody nerves I decided to use it, even against my will.
Also, Charizard is going to be OU in this Generation?! Are you... Are you...
Are you serious?
I don't know if everyone I battled that had a Mega Charizard didn't know how to use OR Mega Charizard really only serves as a revenge overkiller. If Stealth Rocks is up, they're just Hydreigon food to me, hell, they must be soup to anything that outspeeds them when Smogon Stones is up. If you use Mega Charizard, any version, what's so good about it?
-
Metagross can be a sweeper if you get a turn to set up Agility/Rock Polish but in XY it lacks its elemental coverage it had from the move tutors in previous generations. But it is still useable.
Then there's Durant but it is basically Scizor with minor differences imho. If you're into that you can also play a Weak-Armor Skarmory.
Edit: I forgot Excadrill. Don't know much about that one but it can deal lots of damage and was iirc uber with sandstorm in gen5
Mega-Charizard Y is among the ones with the highest special attack and decently fast.
X has tough claws going for it. But imho its stats are kinda weird for that with it still having such a high special attack which costs it other stats.
And if you don't want to use Mega Evolution then don't. It's not like mons that can do that are incapable of holding other items.
-
I think I'm going to give Staraptor another
Chanseychance, but this time I'll actually going to use the setup Smogon recomends with the Choice Band.
I just looked up Mega Charizard Y (which seems to be the common) and it has 100 BASE SPEED. Hwo was I Outspeeding it with a Hydreigon? Do people invest in SPATK instead of Speed?
EDIT: Remember when I said that Mega Charizard only serves as a Revenge Overkiller? Apparently, it serves as a anti water-type lead as well. (http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ou-81447746) But really, this is also an example of how good it is as well. Just observe that Stealth Rocks damage! NOT having a Rapid Spinner in your party when you have a Pokemon with 4x Weakness to Sneaky Peeble seems kind of, well, "not intelligent", for lack of better words.
-

Isn't that a given as long as you don't use the mon in question as a suicide lead?
Also: I've had it with 2 out of 3 people in random wifi using legedary ubers and why am I always fully paralyzed when I predict the switch out to avoid my Earthquake and want to use something that would've killed the thing that got switched in?
-

They're 10 year olds who think they're the second coming of Red Ketchum Oak 3000 because they can kill a LVL 2 Caterpie with Dialga's Roar Of Time.

Is there a Physical Sweeper that's Steel type and it is NOT Scizor or Lucario?
Genesect, Jirachi, i.e. event legendaries. Bisharp is the other contender. I wouldn't recommend Cobalion as it has more of a defensive role in that in needs a SD to do serious damage but also has handy resistances and Toxic immunity.
Excadrill and Durant are both extremely frail (with Durant at least being able to at least take a couple of physical hits). Excadrill has a major speed problem which was overcome with Sand Rush in previous generations while Durant has an almost necessity to set up a Hone Claws or risk missing (which is why choice sets aren't that great).
Staraptor is a good Pokemon which you should not consider outside of choice, it has no use outside of hitting extremely hard at an okay speed tier with Brave Bird though it is kind of really outclassed by Talonflame in that regard due to the utility. Reckless Brave Bird still will heavily maim things which don't resist though.
The difference between outspeeding M-Charizard with Hydreigon might come down to Modest vs. Timid. M-Charizard X also hits extremely hard with a DD up and Fire is a really good type for OU with rampant Steels. M-Charizard Y is king of doubles though, for obvious reasons. Offensive presence with sun is too good.
Rapid Spin has also been phased out by Defog since sometimes having hazards on the opponent's side is not required, plus it gives a lot more options for your team meaning you don't need to run a Starmie (which will probably drop to UU soon).
Mega evolutions are just too good to pass up in most cases, 100 extra stat points give you more bulk, damage, speed without the cost of HP or locking you into a move. In cases like Lucario, using the megastone outclasses normal Lucario in all sets except scarf sets, unless you truly care for those extra 5% with Crunch.
Also: I've had it with 2 out of 3 people in random wifi using legedary ubers and why am I always fully paralyzed when I predict the switch out to avoid my Earthquake and want to use something that would've killed the thing that got switched in?
Because its Funspot and the trick is to not get paralyzed in the first place and run Lum Berry.
e: Chatter is 100% confusion this time around so Chatot is now the best.

Okay guys, Gliscor can't learn Stealth Rocks anymore! In fact, I don't think ANYONE this Generation that isn't named either Tyrunt or Tyranitar can learn Stealth Rocks! Scizor also can't learn SuperPower! Turns out I won't be transferring just Staraptor from the previous Gens.
After Pokebank comes out, I'll give both of them to you guys. But what the hell do I use on our tournament in the meantime? Staraptor is still in Platinum, Brick Break isn't that bad on Scizor, but definitely not as good as SuperPower, AND Stealth Rocks is extremely necessary!
Oh wait, I remember now, Official Tournaments won't allow previous Gen Pokemon because they are scared of "Pokesav" and shit. Guess my team is now useless just because of that.
-
Dwebble learns Stealth Rock for passing it to Bug/Mineral mons. Nevermind that is a Tutor Move on Gliscor.
I actually didn't play Gen 4 and 5 at all so I'm "not affected" by the lack of Pokebank or the apparent ban of transferred mons but I guess it's really frustrating for you people to wait this long and then still having to do all that breeding again just to redo what you already had.
And from what I can see there is a huge amount of moves from tutors in Blackwhite1/2, wow.
Let us just hope that with the (most likely) coming XY2/Z there will be replacements for those.

Well, I could hack the Pokemon and then transfer it, but... That just isn't right. I'm REALLY bummed by this, but not bummed enough hack it.
So yeah, that leaves me to breed a Staraptor, a Rotom and a Gligar in Generation 5. And I have to do this with a deadline of 5 Days, and because I have to go back to school, I'll have no time at all, so I better make every bloody second count.
-
I don't suppose someone has an IV bred Honedge they don't need? Doesn't have to be perfect, I just wanna do a side-by-side comparison of this Aegislash I've got. I have no clue what the 'competitive' IVs for an Aegislash would be, but I'd probably want at least atk?
I don't have any IV bred mons to offer since I can't wrap my head around the concept, but I can offer, say, Vulpix or Growlithes :D
-
I could lend you mine for a while to compare (but it is already an Aegislash, if that matters), but I'd want it back when you're done.
If you just want options for what IVs to put on it
then there's the standard full atk/hp, atk and both defenses equally, atk and one defensive stat (whatever your team needs) or you use it with a special-attack spread instead of atk or even mixed since it has enough bulk in shield form to live even a super-effective hit without investment in defense.
-

Technically I would say you really should have Speed, Attack, and HP for sure, but the practical answer is "Aegislash basically has the same stats as Arceus anyway, so you could do whatever you want and it'll still be better than just about everything".
-
The thing with going for speed on Aegislash is that should you outspeed your opponent and don't ohko you're basically dead. If you want to be faster there is always shadowsneak and with its 60 base there isn't even too much it could seriously outspeed.
It just hast this thing where if played correctly your opponent should never be capable of attacking you in blade forme which can't be done with too much speed.
But maybe I'm overlooking something.

Speed for Aegislash is mostly for speed-tying other Aegislash when that inevitably comes up as far as I know.
-
I was able to learn how to breed in gen 5 and I already got an Impish 4IV Gligar with Immunity (even tough one of the IVs is Special Atack :V) So I'll move on to breeding Staraptor and Hydreigon for now (I gave up breeding Scyther because I think I can work with another move.)
Oh, does anyone happen to have a Pokemon in the "FLYING" Egg Group you can lend me?
-
Gen 6 or 5?
If 6 then I'd have an Aerodactyle. (with suitable IVs)
-

It's 6 in this case.
We can also use this moment to trade that 6IV Gligar with the Wrong nature, if you want.
-
That we can do, so I'll just be online now.
You can also keep that Aerodactyle then.
We should really organize a chat for such things but unfortunately I'm absolutely incapable of both setting something like that up and using it. :V

Skype/Facebook/Steam? You don't have any of these, mate?
-
I've sent you a message with my Skype address.
-
You run +Spe Max Spe with Autotomize. King's Shield isn't actually required on any set especially since people will just check you with Bishop or EQ. Mixed sets with a - SpDef nature is the norm with ideally 31 IVs in everything since we aren't running Gyro Ball or Hidden Powers. And then you can spread your EVs to hit certain thresholds.
-
I FINALLY FOUND SOMEONE WHO AGREES WITH ME THAT THIS GAME IS AN UNBALANCED MESS. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxCdbxQtIEg) It still is fun, but you just got to agree.
-
...in addition to a bunch of us here, in the previous thread, in regards to clearly defined OU/Uber tiers?
-
Aside from the fact that defining "this game" is fairly difficult and that the Pokemon games are always so poorly balanced as to require extensive tiering, this is nothing particularly new.
-
I've got a question about Ditto:
I usually see Imposter Dittos that are scarfed, which makes sense.
But there is this Ditto-exclusive Quick Powder where it says "...the holder's initial Speed stat is doubled."
I'm guessing now that it just increases Ditto's base Speed (which is irrelevant after transforming) instead of actual total Speed which is why Scarf is used instead.
Is it that or is the powder just "banned 'cus op" ?
Edit: I just found out by reading more about Transform: After changing it stops being Ditto and loses the benefit of the Powder.
Edit: (https://i.chzbgr.com/maxW500/8027766784/h449E19C9/)

Okay, I'm breeding Deino here: Both Parents have the exact same IVS: HP, ATK, DEF, SPDEF, SPD. All I have to do is keep breeding them until the RNG randomly decides to make the SPATK perfect as well?
-
Edit: (https://i.chzbgr.com/maxW500/8027766784/h449E19C9/)
So we got a decades to wait most likely.
-
Hey guess what, the RNG was kind to me and decided to give me perfect SPATK!
EXCEPT THE DESTINY KNOT WASN'T AND DIDN'T TRANSFER SPEED. AAAARGH. YOU HAD ONE JOB KNOT. ONE. JOB.
I could try to breed the -Speed Deino with the -Special Attack one, but It sill wouldn't transfer all of the IVs. I BE VERY MAD.
And about the bank, goddammit I'm running out of space. I'm about to fill the 31st box and I only have a few boxes that are only half full. I definitely don't have space to breed Staraptor and Rotom, even tough I think it won't be hard because I have a 6IV Aerodactyl (courtesy of Yookie) and my friend gave me a Ditto with the Correct IVs to breed Rotom. Come on, I won't even need to pay it, I'll simply just transfer all of the Leftover/Wonder Traded Pokemon I got from the leftovers to the bank and forget about them, then use the transferer to transfer all of my legenderies from Gen 4 and 5 To Gen 6 As quickly as possible.
I heard a few Rumours that it will come out this Monday, but yeah Emphasis on "RUMOURS."
-
You can just release or WT them :l
-
Wonder trading doesn't actually get rid of them , and releasing them sounds kind of immoral... but i'll consider it, anyway.
-
What I do most of the time is to just release everything below 3 proper IV and put the rest into wonder trade when breeding.
If you have qualms about releasing them then just think about how you're swamping the city with whatever you're breeding at that moment.
Imagine dozens of Snorlax lying around in Kiloude City or on Route 7. :V
-
I've never released a 'mon, not even the boatloads of Bunnelby and Flabebe that I always seem to get. Just never had the heart to do it. :V
Also, if anyone ever needs a fitepuppy, I have a female one with good IVs to breed. And some decent Oddishes with Synthesis if that's your thing.

Stunfisk is the greatest Pokemon ever conceived. Let nobody try to convince you of the opposite.
It is especially great if you lead with a Zoroark disguised as a Stunfisk and manage to keep up the illusion until the enemies last mon.
Only to send in your actual Stunfisk and beat him.
Edit: Apparently Ditto cannot transform if its opposing a disguised Zoroark. Interesting
-
I named my Stunfisk T-Wave. Zoroark is pretty great when disguised as Shedinja.

What. (Replay (http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ou-83895575))
Thanks, Showdown. if it wasn't for that I would've won that battle without almost having a heart attack. It's bad enough that Magic Bounce exists for cowards alike, but now it has to camouflage itself as other abilities?

I'm in the process of EVing my shiny Stunfisk right now, and I have a second one on the way. I'll trade the extra for another shiny if you want it (and it ever actually shows up, because I've been waiting for a while).

Many thanks for the offer but I don't actually have any shinies I could part with. And I'm fine with the one I have since it also got some (probably not so special :V) eggmoves.

IT HAPPENED.
POKEBANK IS OUT.
TRIAL UNTIL MARCH 14.
FOR PAL REGIONS CURRENTLY ONLY.
e: Jolly Celebi w/ HP/Def/SpA/SpD IVs
i.e. completely useless, I didn't really need Celebi anyway.
-
You bloody beat me to it. (https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc1/t1/995851_589495557803402_1825657899_n.png)
Yeah, it's not like I was already wanting to go to London or anything...
-
Well that is nice.
Maybe now I'll see something different on battle spot.
Unrelated: I've found a way to reach 100% crit with moves that carry increased crit chance and at least 50% (feels like 50) with everything else. Is quite funny and I always have to imagine my opponents reaction on being crit 4 times in a row. :V
It seems gimmicky but you can really counter things like Sigilyph or others that rely on defensive boosts.
-
TIL to slow down and read the entire post, because PAL regions =/= NA and that tiny little acronym was easily glissed over while skimming the thread and then my hopes went soaring just to nosedive :(

Don't worry, it's how I felt too.

America now too. Have fun with the Celebis.

finally
welp time to complete dat pokedex
wow why is poketransfer such a pain to use
nintendo pls

I've noticed that whenever I go to Battlespot I basically am forced to bring 4 specific mons to counter all this annoying stuff everybody uses there and it makes me sad.
I mean it is not that I dislike these 4 but I'd really like to mix it up from time to time. :<
I really need someone to do 6v6 with.

I'll fight you if you want, but my team is colossally un-competitive. Are we DS friends? I don't remember.
-
I looked and we weren't so I've added you.
And the fact that your stuff is uncompetitive doesn't really matter as long as you aren't bringing something that is as weird and unused as what I have. :V

And the fact that your stuff is uncompetitive doesn't really matter as long as you aren't bringing something that is as weird and unused as what I have. :V
It certainly should be. :V It's a mono-Poison team, if that helps. Doesn't work nearly as well as it did in NU (I actually have to care about the fact that it's impossible for me to get a Dragon resist now), but I can kind of win sometimes. Had a couple of sad cases of getting beaten or nearly beaten by people's in-game teams, but those were mostly due to mistakes on my part, so hopefully I can at least kind of put up a fight.
-
I've faced some mono-type teams and it never really went well, so I've got that going for me.
The thing is that I really just want some not super serious gameplay without everyone being a tryhard. It gets tiring but there is next to nothing else on battlespot because even outside of ranked everyone is a tryhard.
If you want to be a tryhard then go do rankeds imho. :V
-
Agreed, but people love easy buttons and as soon as people start to abandon the meta all of the meta stuff becomes an easy button.
Having not played a ton of competitive generation six, my understanding is that the metagame is no longer dominated by weather, but now requires answers to very specific ultra-threats (typically megas and Talonflame) that can effortlessly sweep entire teams or at least open disproportionate holes without fairly specific counterbuilding. Is that accurate, or am I way off?
-
From what I've experienced so far the thing with the specific counters is absolutely correct.
This is the season of hyperoffensive sweepers that just dismantle your team if you don't carry something that shuts it down.
It is either One-Shot or get One-Shot or have the proper defensive counter to switch in which mostly results in switch-carousels that take forever.
Aside from stuff like Rotom (which is more of a tank/annoyer and really started as a counter to Talonflame but is just too good in general) and certain Substituters/Pranksters.
I've yet too see weather in 3v3 but thinking about it it seems to be still viable in this mode even with the turn-limit on the abilities considering that there are not 6 mons and the battle is so much shorter you can really put out a lot in those 5/8 turns in terms of offense. Defensive weather tactics are probably rather dead now (Parasect, Vaporeon, theoretically Goodra) since these typically don't want to generate the weather themselves and need the infinite turns.
-
It's out.
It's bloody out.
It's Goddamn out,
Let me sing you the song of my people.
Ahem.
IT OOOOUT.
I-IT'S O-O-OUT.
IT'S.
OOOOoooOOOoooUUUT.
Time to get every single bloody legendary ever.

dammit apparently my mew is too fake to transfer
anyone got a legit mew? :derp:
-
I loved the part that said "IF YOU USE HACKED POKEYMANS WE WILL NOT LET YOU USE THE BANK AGAIN!"
I did two things once I saw this.
1. I laughed my arse off.
2. I said "Who the hell do they thing they are threatening."
No matter how secure it supposedly is, people are going to get hacked Pokemon in it. Game Freak ain't stopping anybody, The best they can do is slow us.
It's not like I have THAT much hacked pokemon to worry about anyway.
-
I already got a bunch of hacked pokemon through so :derp:
Not poor Mew though :ohdear:

Hmm, yeah. If that's the case, stop playing 3v3s. It's too hard to fit all of the answers you need on one and still have a team. Probably should ban those megas and loosen up that metagame a lot, but since when does Nintendo try?
Edit: And I assume defensive weather guys are still good, just mostly for doubles right now. It's easier to bring your own, more likely your opponent will, and all three of those are good against or with Surf-spam, which they don't even need weather for. And Manaphy was probably the most obnoxious thing in that game in my opinion, so good nerf to it (and possibly bad that it dropped tiers and everyone has to deal with it now, but at least it's fightable sort of).

Shiny Charm and National Certificate GET! o/
I'm working on that now. I just can't get over the fact of how awesome Mismagius looks in 3D.
-
I like Latios. And Porygon-2. And Jellicent. I think I have all the best Pokemon now.
who needs to catch them all
Also all you guys with pokegen'd pokes.
-
So now that Pokebank's available (At least in Canada)... I have a bunch of stuff I want to transfer over from 4th Gen (Diamond/Platinum/SoulSilver). Am I going to have to use Poke Transfer in 5th gen to send the Pokemon over one by one, then use the Poke Transporter app? Is there a more efficient way than this?
Because I might have a lot to send over. Like "ten years since my previous Ruby and LeafGreen saves" a lot.
-
I deided to check all of the Pokemon on my "Pokebank" Box and check which ones
counted as were legit and which ones weren't. I detected THREE Non-Legit Celebi and 1 non-legit Shaymin. Turns out I will only be having the Pokebank Celebi after all. I altleast have the Flower Garden Shaymin in Platinum to spare tough. I also noticed that I have the Hall Of Origin Arceus, and I wonder if the Poke Transferrer will think it's legit or not. If not, then who cares, I still have an Event Arceus in Soul Silver.
After that, My list is Kyogre, Rayquaza, Thundurus, Tornadus, Landorus, Victini, Meloetta, Genesect, Keldeo, Zekrom, Oshawott, Tepig, Mudkip, and after that, I'll just need to evolve some Pokemon and my National Dex will be complete as well.
I could Pokegen the Event ones and Just move my Arse and get the genies (which isn't hard) but Serebii Net doesn't give you the SID of the Event Pokemon, so It's not safe at all. I didn't find the cheats for the events either. Dammit.
I just read somewhere that it uses Pokemon Battle Revolution's Legit Pokemon Checker. OKAY EVERYONE, WE DON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO WORRY ABOUT ANYMORE, THE ONLY THING IT'S GONNA BLOCK ARE POKEMON WITH MORE THAN 510 EVS, AND ONLY SOMETIMES.
Hell, my experience with PBR's Checker: It once let my neighbour transfer a Route 201 caught Deoxys to it. So it probably won't stop anything unless it's really blatantly hacked, like 99IVs on all stats, 999EVs on each stat and no PID. (Maybe that is what stopped Suikama's Mew, maybe it had no PID)
-
I just read somewhere that it uses Pokemon Battle Revolution's Legit Pokemon Checker.
That is really lazy.
I really don't care about people genning their Pokemon in XY since you can breed 5IV rather easily now and if they're so bent on having shinys then whatever. I would have cared in Gen5 since Destiny Bond Knot didn't do what it does now and they would have gotten a clear advantage out of it.
I know that some people don't have the time for breeding or simply are bored to death by it.
On another note: I've got some a crapload (because 12,5% yo) 4IV Evees with hidden ability and Yawn/Wish/Curse. So if someone wants one just ask.
-
Next time some guy acts like a moral idiot and tries to convince me to stop breeding and says something like "Don't you feel for all these Pokemon you reject while you are breeding?!", I'll quote the Sniper in "Meet the Sniper"
Feelings?! Look mate, you know who has a lot of FEELINGS? Blokes who bludgeon their wife to death with a gold trophy. Professionals have STANDARDS. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=9NZDwZbyDus#t=61)
Of course it's just a joke. I love every single Pokemon I have <3. I'll just say that so they'll stop trying to judge the way I play.
-
Just thought I'd post in here now.
FC: 2466-2429-8747 IGN: Colt V.: X Friend safari: Steel, Metang, Exadrill, Ferroseed
Also as note I have access to a normal Safari and get people ditto's. I also now have a 5 IV Ada HP Bunnelby and Ada SL Absol if anyone wants them to use or for breeding purpose. Just let me know so I can add your FC.
-
Apparently 4IV/Hidden ability Eevees get you stuff on the GTS. I've put in 3 so far and got what I wanted in less than 30 minutes.
And Tynamo is so adorable. :V

Pokemon are just slaves to your every desire. Obviously, duh.
...
I have no qualms about releasing freshly hatched mons into the dangerous wilderness of Route 7.
But sure, I do get attached to them sometimes. The same way you can get attached to a character from a book/show/whatever. It all depends on if you give them a personality or not.

Naw man, they're science projects. Slavery is illegal, abusive science is just immoral. :D
-
I release the pokemon that are not the the right nature or ability, but the ones that are but don't have the right IVs I do wonder trade, I've got some nice stuff from wonder trade.
-
Alright so I GTS'ed my Mew for other Mews until I got one that could go through the transporter :V
Now all I need is Genesect and there's no way to get him from GTS
Anyone got one? I'll trade an Arceus for him :derp: Or almost any other legendary really.

I think I might know someone who has an extra. I'll ask around. I thought I had one, but I believe we went over this already and it turned out I didn't. You can borrow mine again to Pokedex it if you want.
-
Just as a update I finally have access to perfect IV Bunnelby in case anyone wants to use it for anything.
-
I think I now know what someone meant in the previous thread about the Battle Maison and them counter building your team. It is a little bit too convenient how often they have the proper resist-berry on mons that have 4 or 5 weaknesses.
And Stunfisk is still most uber. :V Seeing this thing kill a bunch of legendary dragons while giving that dirty smile is just too good.
I'm basically just bringing tanks to battle spot these days... (and Espeon because lel Klefki)
Is there someone here who can give me a Tangela with Hidden Ability? (or has the proper safari)

I know I have a dream world one in Black 2, so I can send it to you whenever I get around to porting my stuff over. My 3DS wireless is unstable and I've been swamped with homework so I don't really have Pokemon Transporter set up right now, but ideally I intend to tomorrow night. I may have a dream world one too, I forget.

I can get it to you today, what Nature do you want?

I'm actually not yet decided on the nature so I'll just take whatever comes.
Is there something specific you want?

So I decided to check the new Pokemon website. Here's an abridged version of my roaming through the new site:
"Oh my god they ruined the site forever"
"Holy crap these new avatars are terrible"
"Oh wow this site breaks often"
"Wow, they actually improved the online Pokedex"
"There's a random button, you can search from A to Z and vice versa, and it has Pokedex entries from both X & Y for every Pokemon"
"Sanae is this your doing"
"Where the hell are the Pokemon suits"
"I wanna cosplay as (Insert character/Pokemon here) dammit"
"I want the old avatars back"
"Please"
-
I haven't even checked out the website. I did once to register for ranked battles and I haven't gone back.
Overall, you think it's better, or worse?
-------------
Onto other news, I just had one of the most epic pokemon battles I've ever had. And also, the longest battle I've had too. At least 20 minutes long. I gotta upload it and show you guys. I somehow came back from a beating and managed to win. and I outstalled a evolite Chansey with a my awesome blue Venomoth. 51 turns long. 51.
Hekkie:
T-Landorous, shiny Terrakion, Mandibuzz, Evolite Chansey, Air balloon Heatran, and Shiny MegaGardevoir.
Vs
Nick:
Ellavire the Electvire, Greninja, Mega Red Gyarados, Shiny Evolite Doublade, Venoblue the shiny venomoth, and lastly my scarfed Imposter Ditto, Mr. X
I don't know how I wasn't curbstomped by this guy. It did go down to the wire. I'd tell you who won, but that'd ruin the surprise.
I was getting my butt kicked, and we ended up in this stalemate between Venoblue and Evo Chansey. Venoblue subbed, rendering it immune to chansey's toxic. And Chansey had no means to attack me. We wound up in a stalemate of me putting her to sleep and her healing, while I buff with quiver dance. Take a look how it all turned out.

It's a nice battle, but sorry to burst your bubble, but I've had some battles that went for 80+ turns, and atleast two that wen't for 100+ turns. (They were on Pokemon Showdown, tough.)
-

FTP burst nick's air balloon. Nick fell straight to the ground!
Dang, those are pretty long. For me, at least as long as I remember, this was the longest match I've had.
And why not. Here's the rest of my uploaded videos, because why not.
Nick vs Noah - The amazing Vivillon sweep. - M2EG - WWWW - WWW5 - 9DDN
This one shocked both of us. We have had a couple of battles earlier (round one his MegaSizor curbstomped me, round two I curbstomped him), and this was going to be our last one. We were talking during this, and we were both flabbergasted at what my amazing Vivillon did. I was expecting it to go down, but it didn't and swept his entire team. By the time we were halfway done with this match, we were just amazing watching and going "how much longer will Vivi last?" and boy I lucked out in a amazing way at the end. This was something.
And lesson for all of you. Beware the Vivillon. With compound eyes, Hurricane and Sleep powder have almost perfect accuracy. Add Subs and Quiver dance and you have something dangerous. If Vivillon sets up you are in trouble. Flying is a nice attacking type, and a boosted hurricane STAB isn't shrugged off easily. I got this Vivillon from my normal game, he's is definitely one of my favorites and well earned his slot in my team. Same goes for other bugs. Quiver dance is a great boosting move. If it can be used and thrown up a sub, you got a problem.
Another really good match - Nick vs Rolazz - WC8G - WWWW - WWW5 - XTFP
I made a few mistakes during this match, but I think I did pretty well, figuring I was using my sun team (beta) and went up against a pair of powerful legendaries. And Sableye. Prankster WoW. Geeze....
Here's a match of my sun team (beta) vs a a team of old legendaries. I'm pretty sure this wasn't a serious match. Or at least she wasn't taking this fight seriously. That Lugia she used ONLY had hydro pump. What's up with that? I've fought her before, she was much tougher then this and I got my butt kicked. Anyway, here's the link - QX7W - WWWW - WWW5 - GCC6
Here's another match I uploaded - Nick vs Kevin - XMDG - WWWW - WWW4 - PL6B - I don't think I remember this match all too much honestly. I do remember he and I talked about his charizard after this battle. The guy was mono-attacking with him. Nothing but fire attacks. Hopefully he took my advice and threw up air slash and some coverage moves on him.
-
....XD
How'd I forget that?
Because people don't pay proper respect to Poison!(http://i838.photobucket.com/albums/zz304/dummy2205/angry.gif) Folks forget about super-Toxic a lot too.
Vivillon sweep...
This one really isn't that remarkable. Setup sweeps aren't rare. Quiver Dance being overpowered is a known quantity. Vivillon is exceptional at using it (and looks super cute crushing everyone), but this is pretty normal. Anything can sweep if it sets up.
Fire/Fire/Fire/Fire coverage Charizard...
Was your opponent eight? This is a classic little kid move. :D

Diancie officially revealed! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcGXa9IJetY)
-
Nice! Can't wait too see how I can get one, and maybe see if there is a relationship to Carbink. Now I'm sure the other hacked pokemon are real too then.
-
so apparently the
diancle=carbink
theory was true
-
I wonder if you might need a Carbink to get Diancie, or you get a ticket or something to go see Diancie and you find it with a whole bunch a Carbink, never mind, Game Freak hurry I want to know!
-
Tangela was realy looking better in Gen5. Oh well.
And apparently Sucker Punch succesfully strikes if you use Me First. Seems odd to me.
-
Well Me First isn't a priority move while Sucker Punch is a +1, but you would think it would have some kind of priority. I guess it's good with pokemon that have abilities that affect priority.
-
Apparently me first takes on the property of the attack (that, it being an attacking type move) but not its complete effects (as in the +1 priority).
But since me first is in itself a status move and acts out the copied attack i thought it would fail.
The only thing that can have both Prankster and Me First would be Meowstic. Would be interesting to see, if you still get the priority boost when it copies an attacking type move.
-
I have a fleet of prankster Meowstics. I can give it a shot at some point.
-
Genesect
Stupid piece of shite that should never have even DREAMT of being in OU the first place and Mega Lucario have both been banned to Ubers. Interesting. GENESECT WAS A BLOODY BUG TYPE THAT COULD LEARN ICE BEAM AND FLAMETHROWER! ONLY VOLCARONA SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO USE FIRE MOVES AS A BUG TYPE! AND NO BUG TYPE SHOULD EVEN APPROACH A ICE TYPE TM.
-
oh so it's just gen 5 OU with knock off, talonflame and maybe a mega here or there.
-

In a move that surprises nobody but that people who put both on every team will pretend to be outraged by anyway. :V Also what you got against Bugs?
That's all of the problem Megas, isn't it? At this point it seems like the biggest one in OU are probably Mawile, Charizard Y, and Venusaur. Is that right?
oh so it's just gen 5 OU with knock off, talonflame and maybe a mega here or there.
With the weather and everything? That's weird.

It surprised me the first time.
"So, I'll lead with Gliscor here to set up Stealth Rocks... Eh? He started with Genescet. That's odd."
"It probably can't do much to me anyway. It's a Steel Type so it must be slow."
"Eh? It outsped me?!"
"WHAT? IT CAN LEARN ICE BEAM?"
That's how my computer screen got a huge fist mark in it.
Then I checked it's stats and my screen got another fist mark on it.

Just now got my IV-breeding things together, so still hammering out my team :P
-
I had the most haxy match ever. I felt so bad for my opponent but what can you do. 4E6G-WWWW-WWW5PUR6
And I'd still need someone to do a trade-evo.
-
Ah sorry hadn't played in a while, I can do a double trade with ya. Just trade with me whenever.
-
"Hey, let's get a Zangoose with Toxic Boost."
Nope.
It only appears together with 4 Seviper in horde battles and gets bitten to death before I can knock all of them out even with me carrying heal pulse.
And even if I manage to have it survive until I can catch it there is always only a chance of it having toxic boost.
If only there was a Ghost type aoe attack.
Edit: Okay, I got a strategy that works. Took a low lvl Sandile and tought it Bulldoze. It just about doesn't take out the Zangoose while oneshotting the Seviper.

I was about to suggest that method. I personally recall doing it with a Kangaskhan.
Also, isn't Ominous Wind AoE?
-
I thought that too but it isn't. For whatever reason. I mean, it spreads wind over the entire battlefield in its animation.
Would probably be op in multi battles because it could proc on each hit.
I've got it and now I'm wondering if there is an actual difference in effect between Guts and Toxic Boost aside from the requirements.
Edit: You know what's great? When your setup Noivern with Tailwind/Hurricane/Attract/Taunt (heh, it is THAT Noivern BV) which is just supposed to take a hit, survive with focus sash, whip up the tailwind and die sweeps the enemy team.
But yeah. Zangoose with Tailwind is pretty good in 3v3. Oneshotting Mega-Venusaur.

Got a Shiny modest 6IV ditto on wondertrade. Not foreign, oh well.

So just a wild question, how does Lucky Egg work with Exp. Sharer? Does a Pok?mon who is holding it and getting the leaked experiment get extra or does the Pok?mon int he front have to use it?
-
The Pokemon holding it gets the boosted experience iirc.
E- nvm
-

Yeah they get the Exp boost normally as if it held both a Exp Share and Lucky Egg. Just like EV training items work normally as if the pok? had both Exp Share and the EV item, so you can EV train multiple pok?mon in hordes. That's really lovely.
-
So I caught an Eevee in my Nuzlocke run.
I kinda want to use a Glaceon for a change, but I'm earlygame still. [Also I've used Espeon in prior gens and I already have enough Psychic-type coverage in a Braixen, Espurr and Psyduck]
Anyone mind evolveing my Eevee for me into a Glaceon [And teaching it Ice Fang since it'll hit lv 20, delete Baby-Doll Eyes]
-
You just have to bring it to that rock in the Ice Caverns and have it level up, right? If so, then I could do that.

Yep, that's all. Thanks. Here's hoping I don't get it killed.

please don't worry if I take a moment, I need to search for the rock. :V
I always get lost in that cave...

Anything with priority or a Choice Scarf, especially if Archeops is weak to it. Bullet Punch, Ice Shard, or Aqua Jet, most ExtremeSpeeds, or any decently strong/super effective Scarf hit should shut it down no problem.

I'm a few old event exclusives away from one, although I haven't had time to port over anything from generation five so my gen-six stuff hasn't joined the bulk of it yet.
-
If you're just trying to kill N's Archeops and don't need the Pokemon for anything serious, a Bisharp could do the job easily enough without any real effort put into it aside from being the appropriate level. It resists every one of his learned moves and has it's weaknesses and stuff.
Of course for competitive play you can't "just grab a Bisharp and use it" but for N yeah.
-
Scizor, Donphan, Carracosta off the top of my head.

Okay, I'm playing Pokemon Showdown again after quite a while and well, I can still do good with Lucario even without the
stupid Lucarionite!
Oh, and the best part about this ban: The Smogon haters going like "OOOOH, LUCAREONIGHT WASN'T OVERPOWER! SMOGON IS @ IT AGAIN BANNING STUFF DAY SHOULDN'T BE!"
This is a Public-Service-Announcement, people: If you ever meet one of these whiners, show (http://tf2wiki.net/ww/images/c/c3/Heavy_specialcompleted10_Waaaaaaaahhh%2C_uwaaaaaaaaaaahhh%21.wav) them (http://tf2wiki.net/ww/images/c/c9/Heavy_specialcompleted11_Gleeful_laughter.wav) this (http://tf2wiki.net/ww/images/c/c0/Heavy_specialcompleted09_Cry_some_more%21.wav).

The thing with Mega-Lucario is that you really can't know beforehand what it actually is, physical, special or mixed. It's basically a get-out-of-jail-free card on its first switch-in because nothing but a wall or something that resist will take a CC from it, the mixed version is impossible to tank and special is imho the least dangerous.
So the only good way to safely depose of it is to one shot it but it is not too frail and a halfway decent player won't let that happen.
On another note: Does somebody here either have a Kecleon with hidden ability or a friend safari with one?
-

Well, in that case, Mega Charizard X/Y should be banned too, because you can't predict which one it's going to Mega Evolve into.
No wait, you can, 90% it's Y.
Okay, I'm just busting your chops, Mega Luke was a much bigger problem than Overratedzard. I was just making fun out of the butthurts that tought the nerf was unnecessary.
-
Special Lucario was dangerous too, had priority Vacuum Wave and the ability to 2HKO anything after a nasty plot. Mixed set is checked by burns and then switching to a special wall, Jellicent comes to mind. Physical can be walled by Gliscor and after a CC drop Lucario is vulnerable to Mach Punches. The only real thing that tips it over is that it take virtually no damage from SR.

My Pokemon Bank license is about to expire, so i figured I would buy credits to keep using it, since I still have not transferred my Gen 5 Pokemon thanks to the fact that I played it on an R4.
And then, doing a quick search on the web, I was able to find 20$ cards for, well, 20$ if you do the convertions. That's a lot of Bloody money. I do have this money, but I was saving it for more important stuff, like Steam Games!
I did hear that after your license expires, the Bank still gives you a few extra days to withdraw your Pokemon or get a new license. I think I'll end up buying it anyway just because 20$:5$ for the license = 4, so assuming the credits don't expire, I'd have 4 full years of Pokebank, and I already checked, nothing on the E-Shop interests me.

Don't you have an international card or something? If you use brazilian eshop, I heard national cards aren't accepted yet due to some shenanigans, but I paid mine with an international card (there's some MEO card thing that works as well). But if you use the canadian/american one, I guess they'd still work, and if they didn't, how could eshop not interest you since you get cheaper stuff there than you would buying in brazilian eshop or physical copies?

I was about to edit my post to say that. YES, INDEED, WITHOUT AN INTERNATIONAL CREDIT CARD, THE BRAZILIAN ESHOP IS COMPLETE AND UTTERLY 100% BUGGER-ALL USELESS.
-
I actually have the brazilian eshop and don't mind because I'd never buy digital copies since I have really bad experiences with sdcards and don't want to have my savefiles corrupted/deleted, plus I personally like physical copies even though they're somewhat expensiver. And even though Club don't exist in Brazil, the free download codes are compatible with any american (continent) eshop.

Power Save guy will confirm the veracity of that. :V
-
I caved.
I like doing in-game runs but I also want to be able to do online stuff like battleing.
So I found a 2nd hand copy of X and I now have both versions, one for in-game challenge runs like Nuzlockes, and the other will be the main file.
-
So, I was testing one of my possible teams for X and Y and...
OHOHO, OH THAT SLAPS ME ON THE KNEE. (http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ou-97808301)
Seriously, did this guy ever considered that my Vaporeon could have Ice Beam? Why did he sent Garchomp? Why am I complaining, that was a free 25 points for my score!
-
I don't know your rating but I assume that it is higher than mine and you don't want to know what I see here. But people sometimes are weird. Forfeits on Showdown are so common because it is quick and easy to get another battle I guess.
But about your team: You may want to give Tyranitar Unnerve instead of the standard ability since your team doesn't really benefit from it and berries are really common.
You'd think people in UU on Showdown wouldn't be serious tryhards since there is OU for that. I was wrong. It is basically OU with different pokemon, you see the same stuff all the time and it is sad.
And then they forfeit when they get half their team killed by Zangoose with Tailwind because they don't know what it does.
And you'd think people knew by now that Kecleon gets Protean and stopped trying to hit it with Fighting moves.
-
Passive damage is always great and the same applies for Sandstorm. Tyranitar has great stats and move pool so it's not a dead weight and 3 Pokemon on the team don't get affected by it.
Unless it's a sash Volcarona then sandstorm is fine. I mean it's not going to be breaking any sturdy or sash on the opponent's side either though most likely.
Berries aren't that common as you might expect, the only real ones used are Chestoresto and Lum. Even then it doesn't give that much of an advantage unless you predict them having that set and then switch as they want to rest and force a switch.
-
The reason you run Sand Stream on Tyranitar is typically the free Assault Vest. I can't see Unnerve being more useful than that very often unless the passive damage seriously hurts your team for some reason (like breaking Sturdy on something important I guess). And then I think people tend to just not run Tyranitar rather than running Unnerve.
Unnerve could use a buff. Locking down all consumable items would be interesting. Or maybe even all items. I wonder how metagame-warping that would be?
-
So I came across my first shiny ever today. Gen 1 to now, first ever random shiny. It was just a Durant in a horde when I was EV training, but it decided to soak the only crit out of all of the Durants and die. Between this and all of the para, crit, and misshax I get thrown at me, you'd think Gamefreak has something against me.
...Now if you don't mind, I'll just be over here in the corner. :colonveeplusalpha:

Yeah, I think I'll keep the sandstorm. My Volcarona is Orbed, Not Sashed. And people on Showdown seem like pretty bad sport sometimes. This guy, for example, I made his Carracosta useless and poisoned his sweeper to death. WHOPDIE-DO. That Gastrodon of his seemed like a pretty big threat to my team, especially because I used Donphan in that team instead of Forretress like I do now.
-
Yeah, I kinda forgot about the Sdef boost when I wrote that. :V
It's just that I personally don't think having things that stay in for a while (like here Vaporeon and probably Volcarona too) getting hit by the residual damage is worth hitting the enemy with it and taking the risk of them running something like MegaGarchomp, Excadrill, youknowwhat.
And the only Sturdy that sandstorm will break is Sawk's but Focus Sashes are a thing, so yeah.
Unnerve is just too situational but since there are already abilities like magic bounce and battle armor that basically do the same thing like certain moves why shouldn't it completely copy Embargo.
The ones that get Unnerve are also all either rarely seen or have other good abilities (or are uber in the case of Mewtwo).
I guess the only thing that really gets a buff from that would be Haxorus.
And Shinies are just mean. They either make you not happy by simply not appearing or make you sad by appearing in the form of a Geodude that explodes right in your face.
-

That's what Master Ball is for. I used mine on a shiny Phantump because I couldn't remember if a ghost can Curse twice and kill itself. I still don't know. :derp:
But yeah, never attack a shiny. Just spam Ultra Balls until it decides to stay caught. Unless you only have a few balls left... :ohdear:
-
Only found 3 shinies on the wild to this day:
- One was in Soul Silver. Shiny Dragonite. Too bad I don't remember how I got it. It is an EXACT copy of my regular Dragonite, except the date it was caught and maybe the IVs, but I haven't checked.
- The other one, also in Soul Silver, was a Tentacool after I decided to play the game after not doing so for years. I got so excited! But then after I saved and reset the game, I saw that I had the "force shiny encounter" code :V Dammi,t got excited for nothing.
- The last one was, AGAIN, a Dragonite, but this time on my last playthrough of Silver. I remember chucking a few Ultra Balls on its face and then nothing happened. I decided to send Gyarados to Whirlpool it, figuring that Whirlpool probably wouldn't kill it. Then, SURPIRSE! CRITICAL HIT! Dratini was down to around 40%. I waited a few turns for its health to go down a bit more and, after 2 great balls, BAM, caught. I was recording all of the champions from all the Pokemon games, so I actually used it on the elite 4. BTW, if anyone is playing Diamond Pearl or Platinum, can you please record your battle with Cynthia? I don't want to replay the entire game again just to get her with her original team
-
It was in a horde, and I had no single-target attacks on the only thing in my team that wasn't a freshly-hatched level 1. I never see shinies, so I never needed to carry a solo attack. The Durants last 2 turns of it normally, but it just had to crit.
-
I used mine on a shiny Phantump because I couldn't remember if a ghost can Curse twice and kill itself. I still don't know. :derp:
Ghosts can both curse an already cursed target which just takes half their HP (saw that in the original Silver once, maybe it changed by now.) and curse below 50%, killing themselves.

Well I'm glad I did that then. I just wish it had been a female so I could breed it and start Wonder Trading Phantumps in Master Balls.
-
I've found a ton of shines in previous gens.
Ruby: 2x Swablu, Machop, Numel, Whismur, Magikarp
Machop, Numel, and Whismur were all found while EV training. The 2 Swablus were because of the grass patch before a friend's secret base which I go to for leveling, and the Magikarp was when randomly fishing for Magikarp to pass the time in a doctor's appointment. Fished up the shiny one the moment my name was called.
Diamond/ Platinum: Volbeat, Luvdisc, Regirock
Volbeat and Luvdisc were random encounters, Regirock was after 3 hours of soft resetting.
This gen has been Graveler, which I wasted the Master Ball on because Explosion, and a Sandile which was the first thing that appeared when I wanted to show a friend the Mega Evolutions.
Well I'm glad I did that then. I just wish it had been a female so I could breed it and start Wonder Trading Phantumps in Master Balls.
I heard Master Ball doesn't pass down when breeding
-
I heard Master Ball doesn't pass down when breeding
Fair enough then.
I have a terrible ratio of hours played to shinies found. My first one was probably 700 hours into the franchise. I found a Poliwhirl in Heartgold, a Trapinch in Emerald, a Stunfisk in Black 2, and a Phantump and Paras in Y. Nothing at all in White, Platinum, or Leaf Green.

Man, I was watching Blame Truth's Pokemon Showdown videos, and one of the comments in it said that "The only reason Showdown is a thing is because of Blametruth" and proceeded to say how everyone that plays it uses his sets and wants to be like him. Wow, only approprate reaction. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hfYJsQAhl0).
That's like the time a Call Of Duty player commented on an Airsoft video and said the reason Airsoft and Paintball are still popular is because of Call Of Duty.
That also reminds me of another one of his videos where someone else commented on how if you have less than 1600 points on Showdown you are just some stupid random kid. So, unless you win approxiamtely 8 out of 10 battles you fight, you suck. Again, that kind of arseholery should be reserved for the COD community.
Man, Blamethruth, I love ya, but I just can't appreciate your fanbase.

I'm pretty sure that Youtube fanbases in general are stupid

1400 is where people stop using dumb sets with quick claw and absorb bulb or start having a sense of risk assessment. Most players who can play decently can expect to be between 1350-1450 on average. I hover around 1380 myself when I still played. This is around a 60% win rate?
I do have to say that the 1600 thing comes from the fact that there are a lot of posts where someone will claim something is overpowered and try to justify their opinion with their rating.

I do have to say that the 1600 thing comes from the fact that there are a lot of posts where someone will claim something is overpowered and try to justify their opinion with their rating.
I classify win rates like this:
1000: You either never played the game or out of 10 battles, you win 5 and you lose 5. Tough I think the new ladder system doesn't let you fall behind the 1000 mark.
1200: Generally, you win 6 and you lose 4
1400: Generally, you win 7 and you lose 3
1600: Generally, you win 8 and you lose 2
1800+: 9 wins and 1 loss, but if you got to that point, I might as well say you need to find better things to do.
That's how I see it, anyway. It would be nice if showdown actually displayed how many wins and how many defeats you have instead of just your score.
And too bad Smogon seems to be agreeing with the 1600+ thing, because if you want to partake on the suspect tests now, your ladder score has to be over 1750. Very close to that 9 wins 1 loss I stated before.
My Ladder score, as of now, I think is 1340. I tends to flutuate between 1190 and 1260, but I got out of that range once I got a 4 Win Streak. And it's such a shame for us to part that once I get to the 1400 range I won't be able to experiment with some gimmicky teams anymore before being instantly called an idiot. I wanted to try a team with Salamence, Galade, Typhlosion, and probably just other Pokemon I like. IN OU. YEAH. If my old team where I used random assortments of my favourite Pokemon with random natures actually made me go on a 6 win streak, then I'm sure this will work. (I may post my old showdown team here if you guys want, it'll be pretty good for a challenge, that's for sure.)
-
uh /rating is a thing.

Hi there, there's a Youtuber I follow whose trying to get all the forms of Vivillon and needs Monsoon and and Tundra. Thought I'd ask if anyone here had those forms to help him out. ^^

My native is Jungle.

My native is Jungle.
Sorry, I meant to say needs those ones. >.<;

Monsoon is annoying to get because it's exclusive to Jap 3DS, and Tundra isn't available for NA 3DS and only 3 countries have it (with only being default to Iceland). You can ask for them at /r/Vivillon on Reddit. I got half of mine from there.

This.
Also there's the issue of I can't expect to run from anything except other Wobbuffets and would have to lead every battle with it.
And yes, my Serviper is dead. Which is a shame because I was enjoying using one, since I've never used one because I had Ruby and Serviper was a Sapphire exclusive. Just like Lunatone, who I ALSO caught and I am currently using. [And Lunatone is probobly the powerhouse of my team atm]

If this is a serious roadblock to your ability to continue the game and you need a way to get past them you can try:
-Toxic, then stall by spamming a high-PP non-damaging move.
-Roar/Whirlwind/Dragon Tail.
-Grind until you can two-shot them with a Sturdy user, then heal it up between battles (probably going to be costly), or one-shot them I guess.
-Gastro Acid?

Toxic is not available at this point. I have a Stunky but its at the level where Poison Gas was forgotten, and even then, AI Roulette could decide Safeguard and then I'm screwed.
Don't have access to anything that learns those, didn't catch anything that can.
Have not caught a pokemon with Sturdy [Roggenrolla is the only one at this point I think, and I caught a Wobb]
Gastro Acid isn't on anything I have.
The annoying thing is if a pokemon faints I have to treat it as dead, and Wobbuffets cannot be run from and are basically AI roulette and a bad spin means a death. Mirror Coat, Counter or even Destiny Bond at the right time is a death. If I had been fortunate enough for a first encounter Sableye/Driftloon/Honedge/Nincada [Shedinja] it wouldn't be such an issue.
I know Repels/Flash are an option but 1: It wouldn't be a cave without the encounters and 2: That hurts grinding on the way and 3: I haven't even got deep enough in for Tierno to give me Flash.
Although I *do* have an Emolga I could teach Flash, which in Gen 6 works like Repel.

You can use Poisonpowder, Will O' Wisp, or potentially even Sandstorm or Hail to replace Toxic if you need to. Although I suppose Destiny Bond will have a chance to randomly murder you sometimes anyway unless you're very careful and the numbers work out just right. Ideally you would have Taunt as well, or be able to correctly gauge at what range you can KO with an attack while Wobuffet doesn't have a Destiny Bond up.
Substitute might be able to help you out if you can get ahold of it, but I don't think it's available that early.
I was thinking Lunatone had Sturdy to tank Counters, but I always forget that those have Levitate instead. And I don't think they learn anything that can plausibly two-shot Wobuffets without an unreasonable amount of grinding.

Fun fact:
Due to the Critical Hit mechanic changes in Gen 6, any pokemon who learns Focus Energy can have 100% critical hit rate with a Scope Lens and Focus Energy. This in effect gives the pokemon a Choice item without the lock-in, that also ignores an unfavorable stat alignment.
This means that Hydregion or Salamence can use Focus energy, and then spam out 100% Critical Draco Meteors which will ignore the stat drop. Salamence can combine this with Moxie.
And unlike when the stat matchup is unfavorable [Aka: -2 Sp.Atk or less], a Critical hit will simply x1.5 on a favorable stat rank matchup. So Salamence's Moxie boosts count.
You may cower in fear now.
Also Kingdra can do this with Sniper and Draco Meteor, which in effect gives Kingdra a Base 292.5 STAB. Which works out at base 438.75 power. Fortunately Kingdra only has 95 Sp.Atk and 85 Speed.
-
However, doing that requires you to dedicate both your item slot and a turn of setup. You could just have Life Orb and a Dragon Dance or something. There are definitely benefits to going the critical hit route
(not that many no dragons get Nasty Plot, Draco Meteor has high base power), but Scope Lens is quite a lot sketchier without the setup turn than Life Orb is. Interesting that it's a potentially viable option now though. Have you tried it, and is it actually any good?
-
When it works it works, when it dosen't it dosen't.
Not easy to get the turn of setup with a Moxiemence, might try Intimidate Mence. Hydregion is working OK but has an issue of 'WHAT ELSE DO I GIVE YOU', and Kingdra is working excellently with it's decent bulk and great typing and the fact that a Sniper Crit Draco Meteor hits harder than even Hydregion's Critical Draco Meteors.
Also in theory this should work with things like Infernape's Overheat. Sharpedo also either got his Focus Energy and wrecked, or didn't get it and fell on it's face.
It certainly has potential, but it probobly needs some element of support, such as Paralysis, because a lot of the Focus Energy users are pretty slow/middleing speeds.
Also, another pokemon who can do this: Jolteon. Who's got a really high Sp.Atk and Speed, and due to those can force switches which he can Focus Energy on. If he can't handle whatever is switched in he can Baton Pass the FE boost.
-
It was fotm for a while but people have moved on. The thing is 1.5x isn't that big and Draco misses.
-
Just (http://i.imgur.com/UW1RShD.png) opened this up about three days ago, runs great in No$gba. These (http://i.imgur.com/ytvYxkH.png) smallfry will soon have to be replaced.
-
That looks like a 1.8 version, right? I always thought it was impressive how they got the 4th gen physical-/special-split in there.
Also: Is there a special reason to opening this in a DS-emulator?
-
Fun fact:

I don't know man Salamence who was Ubers in its gen was bumped down to UU in usage.
-
I barely got the game a couple of days ago, but now managed to complete the game. :) Though putting that aside, on my way to the Pokemon League, I randomly went straight to Victory Road and my first encounter just happened to by a freakin Shiny Geodude. :D Might not be the best expected thing but hey, it's the first Shiny I've caught in the wild. (Not including Gift and Interaction Pokemon)
-
I don't know man Salamence who was Ubers in its gen was bumped down to UU in usage.
No it wasn't. It was Ubers Gen 4.
And yeah, I know about Touhoumon. There's also 1.8 Emerald, which I personally helped playtest and Nuzlocked it. Which, unlike FR/LG's versions, allows you to get the alternate forms [A/D/S/H/Ect] before beating the game. The downside? Youcan't just buy the evolution stones to do so, you have to find them or even Theif them from wilds.
Also 1.8 Emerald not only has physical/special split, but has a fully functional Battle Frontier.
-
Point still stands. I guess the Latis are a better choice? Or Deoxys.
-
The argument could be made that ubers moving down to lower tiers in a new generation is a sign of balance, not power creep. There are more ways to handle them now and their overwhelming mechanics have been de-powered, so they no longer need to be locked away in ubers for lack of answers. I'm not saying that's definitely the only reason (or trying to suggest that the game is balanced), but it's a factor along with power creep.
Besides, NU is as it always was the One True Pokemon Metagame. ;)
-
I haven't played Touhoumon in years; I guess I might play Emerald since the only version I played was the old FireRed hack.
-
I can recommend Emerald (in this case not 1.8 ) or another world if you like a changed storyline with another world being more serious and Emerald... Emerald is special. But really enjoyable.
Both 1.8 versions (Emerald and FireRed) only change gameplay and music but are definitely worth playing.

I've been breeding stuff to use in local battles, and one of my usual opponents is a total setup whore. He doesn't know how to do anything but mash Dragon Dance or Shell Smash and hope for easy wins. I've seen a Liepard set used before that would be a fantastic counter for this, but despite Showdown seemingly not flagging it as impossible I can't figure out how to get it.
I want a Prankster Liepard with Encore and Copycat, but Encore and Copycat are, as far as I can tell, egg moves from non-overlapping parents. Am I missing something stupid here? How can I get this setup? Neither one seems to be a move tutor move, which was my best guess.
-

Since Gen 6, the child can inherit both parents' egg moves, not just the father's. That also makes Marill be able to have both Aqua Jet and Belly Drum simultaneously in this gen.

Oh wow, okay. That explains that. I had just been assuming the changes in movesets were all from sixth-gen potential parents that could pass down both. That's pretty easy then.
-
Does any one have a chansey or a friend safari with one in it? If trading then would it be possible to have one with it's hidden ability?
-
So the April Friendly started a few days ago, and is actually almost done but it gave me a good insight into what people who aren't Japanese like to do on Wi-Fi battles.
Battle Spot is a nightmare
.
The most common sets, to my knowledge, used where:
Mega Mawile, Mega Kangaskhan, Power Herb Xerneas, Rocky Helmet Ferro, LO Yvetal, Lum/Mega Chomp, DD Policy Dragonite or DD Mega Ttar, Policy/Lefties Aegislash, Scarf/Specs Wash/Heat, Sitrus Belly Drum Azumarill, Mega Venusaur, Mega Mewtwo X, Mega Charizard X, LO Greninja, Swagplay Klefki, Mega/Band Scizor and Band/LO Talonflame.
Mega Gengar was surprisingly less common, but trapping is not quite as effective in a 3v3 situation. I guarantee though, that a majority of teams will have 3 of the above Pokemon. Mega Mawile seems to be able to check the legends pretty nicely, and Ferrothorn as well to get rid of those Mega Kangaskhan. It's really difficult to juggle threats in a 6v6 format, and having to account for all this on a 3v3 format is all the more frustrating.
Rotom Heat MVP, burns, bolts and overheats.

Bloody hell, I haven't posted here in ages! :V And to think that in January and February I'd pretty much post in this thread everyday.
and annoy the shit out of everybody, most likely.
Okay, my friend's birthday is near, and I want to give him a Shiny Gengar, because it's his favourite Pokemon and that it's been 5 years since I met him. I'm breeding with a German Ditto in hopes that someday it will spit out a shiny one. And no, this time around I have no Pokebank and I had enough with trying to allocate space for breeding leftovers, so if the baby Gastly is not shiny then I'll RELEASE IT IN COLD BLOOD.
And yes I am doing this from kindness alone, I already gave him one of those Attack on Titan capes that costed me 30 bloody sweaty bucks, so I shouldn't be doing this. But *sigh* long before he asked me to buy that to him I promised him I would gift him a shiny on his birthday, and I keep my promises!
-
Trying a shiny on trial and error? You're aware SVex has revived right?
-
(...) Shiny Gengar (...)
I can give you a Japanese Gastly to speed up the process a little further. (It even has nice stats if that matters)
Also: You really shouldn't feel bad about releasing newly hatched mons. :V It's not like there is a ton of predator type wildlife out there. But really: They are ghosts, how do you even breed that honestly?
(...) You're aware SVex has revived right?
Who or what is SVex? I've googled it and it didn't seem related to the topic here but now I'm interested.
-
Before there was a program you could use to find the Shiny Value of an egg. If the egg was hatched on the game of someone who had the same shiny value of the egg then it would be shiny upon hatching. You could also check IVs iirc It stopped working after there was a patch but it now works again.
-
Recently acquired Y, really enjoying it! It takes a huge, huge step up from any other Pokemon game released. The last game I put time into was Pearl, only putting a short amount of time into Black. Honestly though, the improvements are huge! Love it.
-

I'll do this legit, even it will require me not to sleep today.
I can give you a Japanese Gastly to speed up the process a little further. (It even has nice stats if that matters)
I'm breeding it with an International Ditto, and I don't remember if this kind of effect stacks. I doubt it. Also, you gave me a lot of stuff, so taking another one of your Pokemon will make me feel like I'm just using you :V
-
Japanese Gastly are a dime a dozen, since the Japanese are
all ubers-spamming degenerates big fans of Gastly. I probably have at least a few lying around, and have released quite a few more.
-
It would just produce the eggs more quickly. I don't know the stepcount for gastly but it should be low enough to still have it make a difference.
And yes, as commandercool stated: There's like 50% chance of the Gastly on wondertrade are Japanese. :V I just kept one in case I ever wanted a Gengar but, eh...

Just don't overdo it with the op-share or else it will become silly easy.
But yes, they did improve on quite a lot of aspects of the earlier games.

Awesome! Welcome to Gen 6. :3

http://www.reddit.com/r/SVEXCHANGE
Basically where people share their Trainer Shiny Values and people with Eggs matching it ask them to hatch them shiny.
In this gen, every trainer is given a static TSV (Trainer Shiny Value), and every pok?mon is given a PSV (called ESV for eggs) which is kind of random (calculated from the PID). If both PSV and TSV matches, the pok?mon will be shiny. So both of them range from 0 to 4095, which is the main shiny rate in this gen. In wild pok?mon, this doesn't really help in any way. But in eggs, although they do have an OT, it gets overwritten by the hatcher, so if you find the person with the TSV that matches the ESV, it'll hatch shiny on their game and they'll send it back to you. Only downside of this is that it doesn't have your OT, though. But it is considered legit and they are even tradeable at /r/pokemontrades, which is strict enough to not accept anything Bank-transferred and cloned pok?mon.
As for finding the ESV (and you TSV, for the first time), there was Instacheck (http://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/instacheck-hotspot-a-fast-pok%C3%A9mon-checker-for-xy.3492531/), that worked until the 1.2 update where they encrypted the connections to block this abomination (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=724024) that sadly took Instacheck with it since it was the same exploit.
But about 3 months ago, Kaphotics and other people made a lot of progress with save decryption, and came up with two new tools: KeySAV (http://www.reddit.com/r/SVExchange/wiki/keysav) and KeyBV (http://www.reddit.com/r/SVExchange/wiki/keybv). These programs uses offline data (you save file and a battle video, respectively) so I doubt they'll get blocked any time soon or if they ever will. KeySAV is much more convenient since it reads two boxes at once and there's an extension of it that you can read all of your boxes at once, but you need to actually have access to you savefile, meaning you'll need either a digital copy, or a Power Saves. KeyBV, however, uses battle videos, so you have to hatch your pok?s and have a friend to start a battle with you (obv with Forced Save disabled) in order to save the video, reset without saving, and checking the values/IVs.
I guess that's it. Abusing the Shiny Values is the only viable and legit way to get competitively-flawless shiny.
-
That certainly sounds useful. It really is interesting what people do to get something rare like a shiny. I'm happy if I get one and then that is fine.
But exploits like this always seem fishy to me and people will try and find a way to abuse it.
-
I'm totally okay with it since it doesn't modify anything on the game nor generates a pok?mon illegitimately, it just shows you things you're not supposed to see. :V
Pretty much like RNG abuse in previous gens but specifically for shininess since IVs are so easy in this gen.
-
Seems legit. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywGSON9tNq0)

They have some extra glowing going on too
Mega Groudon and Kyogre
confirmed?
I guess this game will have Mega Latios and Latias
as well
-
best gen going to the 3ds, weee
-
My expectations are high for this despite the fact that I don't love Ruby and Sapphire. Whenever there's a major release that doesn't add new Pokemon they have to give us cool features, so I'm hoping for a Heartgold/Soulsilver-quality game.
-
Welp, I'm hyped. Gen 3 is my favorite and I've been waiting for this remake for years. We'll probably get some more megas at least, that would be interesting.
-

Yeah, GSC was extremely unenjoyable for me despite RBY being actually fun (no I'm not a genwunner, I actually got into Pok?mon back in 2007 with Sapphire :V). But HGSS is a top tier game, sadly they removed the cool features in BW. :(

An Epic NEW ADVENTURE is coming!
Explore a dramatic NEW WORLD!
Either Hoenn as we know it is changing a lot, or these are not actually Hoenn remakes as such, more spiritual successors
Or Gamefreak is outright false advertising. Because if it is a R/S/E remake simply without Hoenn undergoing major alterations like they are suggesting, then that is exactly what they are doing. That said; game companies have been doing that somewhat often recently... need I bring up Colonial Marines?
So don't get the HOENN CONFIRMED hype too high yet... it might not be Hoenn as we know it.
-
If they bring back your Pok?mon following you again, I'll be happy.
-
rofl I was going to make a thread
I'm literally exploding with hype
these games were my childhood, there isn't any other game I spent anywhere near as much time on
I frankly don't care if there are going to be minor or major changes, it's gonna have to be a callback to the games in one way or another
November November where are you
-
Just don't give me a last 1/3rd of the game which is nothing but water types, followed by a water 8th Gym, and then a Water champion.
Please.
-
I suggest removing the "X/Y" from the title and make it a general pok?mon thread.
-
Yeah definitely change the title, preferably insert some "hype" as well
Also: http://i.imgur.com/FPtdKSb.png
-
You can keep the subtitle however. Still appropriate.
-
So don't get the HOENN CONFIRMED hype too high yet... it might not be Hoenn as we know it.
I'm happier
with that
-
I'm happier
with that
Hoenn gets way too much flak for being the "middle game" with "water", it's a really colorful place and the water segments specifically have some design and aesthetic differences between them, are non-linear and reward exploration. It really worked your imagination as a child, I still remember getting hyped over the dive tunnels, expecting to surface at Sootopolis only to finally find the underwater hideout, getting freaked out by the Regi ruins, that kind of thing.
Like, yeah, I'm biased on the other side, but it really wasn't bad! They'll probably have more efficient surfing now anyways.
-
Quickly changed the thread title. I should probably play Emerald on an emulator sometime before November.
-
Definitely hyped!
Yeah definitely change the title, preferably insert some "hype" as well

This was actually kinda mind-blowing.
-
All my hypes!!
Despite all the hate Hoenn gets for being full of water, I liked the exploration aspect of it. It'd be cool if they added a side segment like the Sevii islands from FRLG and some other uncharted islands like the sea exploration of Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass from Zelda.
BUT!!! The absolute BEST part of this is what I've been longing for a looong time: another arc with Ruby and Sapphire together in the Pokemon Special Manga!! I hope this time Wally gets some more love. Both in the manga and the game.
(I will freaking rage if they don't do an arc for the manga)
-
Holy shit, guys, just look at all the hype I created :v yes, this is official, but I'm not crazy for it. I didn't like Gen 3 that much, and in November I'm going to be too busy playing Neptunia Rebirth 1 and the new Call of Duty. But I'm still going to get it, because WHYYYYYY NOT.
Trumpets and water, trumpets and water, TRUMPETS AND WATER, THEY'RE BACK.
-
Trumpets and water, trumpets and water, TRUMPETS AND WATER, THEY'RE BACK.
Oh hell yes, I forgot about the trumpets; the best part of gen 3. I rather hate the new DS instruments and how... unexciting (if I had to describe it, 盛り上がらないんですよ!) their timbre is (though not necessarily for the original ds pkmn OSTs, but especially when they remake some of the older songs).
-
I'm hopping aboard the hype train. The 3rd generation has always been my favorite, so I'm super excited for these games.
-

I dunno, I only liked a handful of musics from the third Gen, the ones I can think on the top of my head are Littleroot town, Rustboro city, uhhh... the Wild Encounter theme was kinda nice so was the Champion theme?... You see, 2/4 of the music I liked from this game did NOT involve trumpets at all.
And well, this is a common complaint for Hoenn but it's common because it's RELEVANT, but no one likes to spend the later part of their game stuck between a uncontable amount of H20 molecules, and for Gods sake WHY DOES THE VICTORY ROAD NEED ALL FO THE GAME'S HM'S EXCEPT CUT! IN FACT ALL OF THE LATER PUZZLES NEED THEM!
But I'm making it sound like Hoenn was a complete flop here, but it wasn't, I did have some fun with it, but it's just that these problems were really annoying and omnipresent. I must be the only person in this thread who kinda enjoyed contests, please prove me wrong, guys.
(BTW RENAME THE THREAD TO HOENN CONFIRMED, THIS'LL ATTRACT MORE ATTENTION)

Contests were the shit. Berry blending was the shit.

STREET PASS SECRET BASES PLS
YES
YES PLEASE
-
STREET PASS SECRET BASES PLS
Yes, that would be awesome. I loved those secret bases.
While Hoenn was probably my least favorite region, I'm still hyped for it. It was due for a remake anyway. Had some awesome music though, can't deny that.
There's also a rumor going around that there would be some physical device coming with it. Speculation comes from gen 1 remakes FRLG coming with a wireless adapter, gen 2 remakes HGSS coming with the Pokewalker. Dunno if they will do that for gen 3. I honestly don't really care if they do that or not.
-
STREET PASS SECRET BASES PLS
Hell yes! That would be the shit. I would spend hours making my secret base just right. It was so addicting.
-

Why would they use capital omega and then not capital alpha when Team Aqua's logo has always been a big A. It's very obviously a capital alpha.
-
probably because when most people think alpha they think α
like even i didnt even know capital alpha was just A until now :derp:
-
To this day, Ruby is still my favourite game. I've been hoping for a remake/rerelease for what seems like ages. BUT, I'm not jumping on board the hype train JUST yet. Not until I see some ingame art/screenshots. If they just use the engine and appearance from X/Y, instead of a 2D environment with proper sprites, then this remake will, to put it diplomatically, hold no interest to me whatsoever.
-
there's pretty much no way this will be in 2d
if they were gonna make it 2d they would have released it last gen for DS after BW2
and even then it would have been hybrid 2d/3d like BW was
-
and even then it would have been hybrid 2d/3d like BW was
I could live with that. It'd be a happy medium between the classic and the modern, or as near as you can get to it.
-
I have to admit when I first heard the names of the new games I thought it was a definite ruse.
The trailer seemed to hint that there was going to be a NEW STORY and PLACES an, but it looks like it's just a remake with "gameplay in 2d and some 3d".
So we can assume that it will be like X and Y considering they have already make all the models and animations for Pokemon. We can also probably assume that there will be a day/night cycle considering all the latest games have them but no seasons, as the originals did not have any and neither did the 6th gen games.
Hoenn isn't my favourite region, but I am looking forward to 3D contests with models and an actual postgame
.
They will also probably make Lati@s catchable with their mega stones available as some post game, but introduce nothing else as this isn't a main series (interestingly enough Lati@s has been catchable in every generation).
The fights with Kyogre/Groudon will also be quite weird now that their weather effects only last 5 turns.
It's going to be quite tedious to juggle my Pokemon between these games and the eventual third 6th gen game however.
-
I dunno, I only liked a handful of musics from the third Gen, the ones I can think on the top of my head are Littleroot town, Rustboro city, uhhh... the Wild Encounter theme was kinda nice so was the Champion theme?... You see, 2/4 of the music I liked from this game did NOT involve trumpets at all.
To each his own, but you might be forgetting the 3rd gen FRLG remixes of 1st gen, which also had the best remix of the champion theme (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhfJO366AM4), imo. Apparently nintendo agrees with me because BW2 did remix the FRLG remix.
Also, Mega Kyogre? Just when we thought weather was finally nerfed.
-
I have to say, I'm probably the most hyped for the remakes of the songs. HGSS had a gorgeous soundtrack and it seems like they're just going up in skill every generation.
I also can't wait for the RSE Safari and probably the Battle Frontier.
-
Also, Mega Kyogre? Just when we thought weather was finally nerfed.
They have to make Kyogre king of Ubers again man. [Although tbh Mega Kyogre would have to be CRAZY broken to be worth using over something like Specs/Scarf Spout]
Edit: Apparently the confusion reached Nintendo. Satoru Iwata has came out and said these are 'full remakes of the 2002 releases, Ruby and Saphhire'.
I... still think that is ambiguous. So does that mean it's R/S simply updated and re-released, or does it mean they are 'Fully Remade' [Not remastered, remade], and thus heavily changed?
Bearing in mind the former, if it is just an updated re-release that is basically the same, means the trailer they released is false advertising, since it is not a NEW ADVENTURE or anything like that.
-
It pretty much means it's just updating R/S to Gen 6 standards, i.e. allowing access to Gen 4/5/6 moves, Pokemon and abilities and new graphics.
There is almost certainly not going to be new abilities, stat changes, or mechanics.
The story won't be changed I don't think, but perhaps new clothes for the player characters will appear.
Lot still ambigious on how much of X and Y they want to implement into this remake.
-
It's ambiguous because you're trying to read into it, the whole "NEW adventure!" thing was the usual sales tactic and "remake" in this context definitely refers to what they did with FRLG and HGSS.
...Wait, 2002? What? I thought they were 2003 releases.
EDIT: "They were released in Japan on November 21, 2002, in North America on March 19, 2003, in Australia on April 3, 2003 and in Europe on July 25, 2003."
Oh right that makes sense. After all they do have "2003" in the title screen of the western versions.
-
IMO if you're toteing a re-release as a NEW Adventure, when it's not NEW, it's a re-release, it's false advertising. I mean look at that trailer and tell me how much of it is Nintendo pushing that this is NEW.
Which is what makes me think that this will be significantly changed. I mean we do have Alpha/Omega Groudon and Kyogre.
And there's precedent for things being added in later editions of the same generation. Rotom's and Girnatina's Formes don't register in D/P but exist in Pt. Black and White Kyurem outright cannot be used in battles against the Gen 5 games.
-
To each his own, but you might be forgetting the 3rd gen FRLG remixes of 1st gen, which also had the best remix of the champion theme (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhfJO366AM4), imo. Apparently nintendo agrees with me because BW2 did remix the FRLG remix.
Also, Mega Kyogre? Just when we thought weather was finally nerfed.
Actually I wasn't counting FRLG. If you count them, well, almost every song from it is beautiful, Pallet Town, Viridian City, pretty much all of the Routes theme, the battle music, the Champion music, that Pallet Town remix that plays after you beat the champion...
And these are the ones I can think of the top of my head, there's probably more.
FRLG's Viridian City has got to be the most beautiful song I listened on a game yet.
-
Sounds like we're getting actual game footage on Sunday.
-
I'm just gonna copypaste my comment about this news from the Kancolle forum....
WHAAAT??? NINTENDO ACTUALLY GOT SMART FOR THE SECOND TIME IN THE LAST 5 YEARS????
After all this time they actually noticed that entire communities of Pokemon fans were ready to cut throats with rusty spoons for an Hoenn remake?
God, if they make a good job of the story there will be fans breaking down the shops....
Oh, and if anyone is curious, the first time they got smart for me was when they made BLACK/WHITE. They finally noticed that even a Pokemon game get 10x better with a good story besides getting to the Champion (they probably got the hint after Platinum)!
No wonder i rank B/W as the Best Pokemon Game Ever, closely followed by Platinum (3rd place is taken by Johto for one single reason: freaking RED as final challenge was pure genius and adrenaline-inducing)
-
I remain skeptical about these Hoenn remakes. As I see it, pretty much everything will be hit-or-miss with this, and we've all seen what happens when Nintendo fails at a hit-or-miss game. They end up wasting a lot of time and resources for a game nobody will buy. I already don't like the potential for Mega Evolution on Groudon and Kyogre. I didn't even like it when hackers discovered Mega Latios & Latias. Just the one Mega-legendary was fine.
There are still a few things I liked about Gen 3. A pretty cool lineup of Gym Leaders (including Norman, one of my all-time favorites) and a pretty cool variety of Pokemon you can catch early on. Some pretty good Pokemon also came out of Hoenn, but overall, the region itself felt lacking to me. If it's all going to be new like Nintendo claims, then they manage to make an epic remake of an okay game, but otherwise I'd rather just stay in Kalos for what it's worth. Unless I can transfer my X/Y Pokemon across, of course, then it all comes down to how well they manage to actually remake the games. Still not looking forward to the inevitable fates of Groudon & Kyogre.
...but if they're smart enough to add Regigigas, I'm probably buying the game anyway. If they add a Mega Regigigas, I'll get on the hype train immediately.

Praise rayquaza
There better be a fuckin move tutor so my aggron can learn superpower because jesus christ i dont have anything to port my superpower aggron over to from emerald
Or my shiy sabreye
Or my swords dance shedinja
-
If they add a Mega Regigigas, I'll get on the hype train immediately.
They should give Mega Regigigas something stupid like Oblivious and no stat increase, since it would still be viable :V
Or, shit, since he's RSE anyway, how about Mega Slaking?
-
I remain skeptical about these Hoenn remakes.
But... Hoenn is one of the most varied regions. You have a ocean, beaches, volcanic regions, deserts, what is basically a rainforest. Kanto/Jhoto is the 'bland' region but they have the excuse of being earlier, and honestly I'd say Sinnoh is bland compared to Hoenn as well. Sinnoh is... mountains and snow with a marshland in the south. and somewhat in the east too [Misty areas]. I mean Hoenn has a city built in trees, and another on Corsola.
Also it ain't gonna be the storyline content or anything that decides if you stay in Kalos or not. It's if these games are actually going to have postgame content unlike X/Y.
And I'll tell you what, if they are full remakes, remember: Emerald is where the Battle Frontier came from. The best Battle Frontier. With 7 different facilities.
And if they bring that across to Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, well, there won't be any reason to stay in Kalos.
Also worth noting some pokemon unobtainable except with bank are in the Hoenn dex. Like Koffing.
By the way, first game footage is Sunday.
-
how about Mega Slaking?
Ability: Huge Power
-
+30 Spe +40 SpD +90 Def
I don't really think extra attack is necessary. But this would give him 150/130/105 defences. And with the same base speed as Jolteon. Though with an attack stay of 920 without boosts.
This is Giratina level bulk.
-
Sounds like we're getting actual game footage on Sunday.

I love REAL CINEMATIC FOOTAGE.
-
such informative, very footage, wow
-
For all we know, it might be the only one of the only cutscenes in the game. Remembering from back then....I could easily see exactly where that would be. And easily see that being like, one of three/four cutscenes at all.
Who knows. *Shrugs*
Personally, for me I found Gen 3 the least impressive of them all. I probably would have loved LeafGreen/FireRed but I actually never played them. Same with Heart Gold and soul silver (why? I love Old Gold. Why have I not played the super epic remake of it?). I'll still get it no matter what, but I do hope they throw in some challenge somewhere for us experienced players.
Man, I wish that B2W2 Hard mode returns. just think, if you sync your data with a copy of X or Y, you can unlock a more challenging playthough option.

I know this feel. I really wish Water Shuriken was actually Special as Raikaria thought it was.
At least it gives Jolly Greninja another move to play with if it doesn't want Shadow Sneak as its priority move.

New stuff about Hoenn, go check Serebii's main page (http://www.serebii.net/index2.shtml).
Also, Mega Diancie
is my waifu! :*
-
Mega Swampert
is such a stud.
The Magma/Aqua redesigns
are hilariously terrible.
Hyped for bicycles.
-
What the heck did they do to Maxie? He used to look fairly cool, but now he looks like a dork
-
They also made the pirate themed team... yeah.
In other news, Sceptile has the typing Serperior fans would kill for.
Also Gen 6 has a confirmed mega before any Gen 5 pokemon. This is kinda silly, especially as the odds of Unova pokemon in the game are low.
That said, apparently Steven has a Lv100 MegaZard X. And that wasn't in the originals.
I think at this point we can say the game will be rather heavily changed.
-
(http://i.imgur.com/kwfVph6.png)
-
I would've been enraged if they swapped out May with another character like they did with Kotone/Crystal.
Maxie looks less cool now. He used to have that nice 'true administrator' vibe.
Also, one of the text beside the new Kyogre/Groudon says that it's their true form from the super-ancient days.
Although I see that those 2 aren't the only ones to 'de-evolve' as Steven went down about a decade in age or so. Wasn't he like 30 in RSE?
The new team designs are... interesting.
-
Kagari a qt
-
Ehh, I'm not a fan of the Archie and Maxie redesigns.
-
The Aqua executive redesigns are actually leagues worse. Shelly and the other dude were the best.
-
Mega Swampert didn't get sap sipper. Mega Sceptile gets given an electric immunity up from quad resist. Solar power would have been nice. I am disappointed in these abilities but man Swampert looks so dumb I love it.
-
Mega Sceptile gets given an electric immunity up from quad resist.
At least it'll be immune to Thunder Wave, and will scare Rotom-W away even harder than it would otherwise. :V
I wonder if they'll give it insane speed to outspeed Greninja. Scep is already pretty fast.
-
The Aqua executive redesigns are actually leagues worse. Shelly and the other dude were the best.
The 'other dude' was just a fat guy. That was a bad design.
Shelly was alright.
I also don't like how they made the entire of Team Aqua black. You know... the pirate themed team.
Somalians and such... it's a little insensitve to not have them be mixed race. [In fact this should be the case of all villain teams really].
-
I find it very odd how we still don't have
Diancie
but now we have information that it will mega evolve, it can't be that bad that it needs a evolution already can it?
Any guesses on what prehistoric forms might do? I'd hate for it to just be a simple power boost which would ask the question, why not just mega evolve them?
-
I find it very odd how we still don't have Diancie

If that's how megas are supposed to work then Mewtwo, Gengar, and Alakazam have some 'splainin' to do.
Any guesses on what prehistoric forms might do? I'd hate for it to just be a simple power boost which would ask the question, why not just mega evolve them?
Maybe they're not playable and will serve to be real-ass Pokemon bosses that can actually threaten a whole team. I've had my fingers crossed for something like that for years.
-
I'm guessing it will give back their infinite weather
So prehistoric as in pre-nerf :V
-
I'm guessing it will give back their infinite weather
So prehistoric as in pre-nerf :V
This is a possibility that I thought of too. One of the reasons I didn't like Ninetales and Politoed getting Drought and Drizzle (besides the obvious weather wars they started) was because it seemed to diminish the original significance of the abilities. Remember how in Gen 3, the release of Groudon/Kyorge was treated as nothing short of cataclysmic if left unchecked? Yeah, they were important. And while the auto-weather abilities did deserve a nerf after Gen 5, Groudon and Kyorge were admittedly pretty shafted by the deal. If these new forms are supposed to be more powerful than the ones from Gen 3, then they could conceivably get upgraded abilities to give them back their claim to fame (besides, Ubers is the land of overpowered things anyway, no big deal giving them back permanent weather).
-
I never got to use a weather team before, how cataclysmic are we talking?
-
I never got to use a weather team before, how cataclysmic are we talking?
I meant in the games' story mode, not in PvP battles. You had to capture or defeat Groudon/Kyorge, lest all of Hoenn, if not the rest of the world, would become dried up/flooded. That kind of cataclysm.
-
OK I get it, and since they were just awakened from a long slumber their power would naturally weaken. Actually I wonder if this could mean we might get a prehistoric Rayquaza? I wonder if all "old" legendary pokemon will get a prehistoric form and all recent legendaries get mega evolutions, just a thought.
-
Prehistoric Rayquaza fight, gets Huge Power for that fight.
-
Hahaha....no. Going from 150 atk to 300 is insane! Like insta banned! Mewtwo X & Y isn't that strong with only 190 base stat in attack/sp. attack. (ahh well I guess Mega Mawile with 210 atk)
-
I meant only for the wild encounter. So that you finally have an actually difficult time to catch it while your party is being destroyed with Dragon Claw.
-
Dang it that two misunderstandings, gotta get competitive out of my head for a change.
-
Roxanne's redesign is cool... but looks more school-girlish rather than school-teacherish.
Also Gym Leaders not having animated intros confirmed.
Pikachu being shown being caught in a REGULAR pokeball confirms location/dex changes, since Pikachu was safari-exclusive in R/S/E; hence caught in Safari Balls.
-
Now I'm really curious how Prehistoric works, from the trailer it looks like a gem is used like mega evolution. Maybe they are the omega ruby and alpha sapphire at work eh? =D
Dat Roxanne design! I could have sworn she was a school girl herself and not a teacher, that she was just really good though.

-
People dealt with Wondereye/Wondertomb before Fairy.
Still not every Pokemon can deal with it. What if your Mold Breaker/Status Staller is taken out? Not being instantly taken out by passive damage is pretty good too.
-
Yeah; but people still dealt with it.
It beats Shedinja by a long shot, but the design makes me think that Mega Eye is gonna be defensive anyway. Although it does get Recover, it loses Prankster, so can't out-taunt stuff.
Speaking of the design:
Sableye is a SAPPHIRE exclusive
The gems in Mega Sableye's eyes, and the one it's holding, are clearly RUBIES.
Sableye's Mega stone is gonna be like M.Aggron/M. Tyranitar and M.Houndoom/M.Manetric.
That said; the clip claims available in both games. That said at the same time,m the first trailers for the games said NEW REGION, so this wouldn't be the first bit of false advertising done.
-
No, for the nth time, no they didn't. HOENN confirmed, geez.
Sableye was Mawile's counterpart in the originals and we do have a mega for both. Seems fine.

0:13 - An epic NEW adventure is coming - No it's not; it's Gen 3 with some changes. You MIIIGHT be able to justify this one at least.
0:21 - Explore a dramatic NEW world - No it's not; it's Hoenn. Hoenn isn't new. And we've seen the map. It's the same Hoenn. This is a blatant lie and I don't see how you can justify this as anything but that.
So, for the n'th time; yes; they did lie in the initial reveal trailers.
They've lied before; they can lie now when they say the Mega Stone is in both games.
-
Pokemon's a kids game ans most kids haven't explored Hoenn yet. Remakes are there to please the fans but also to introduce the target audience to more of the franchise.
-
'New' seems more like a poor choice of words for the sake of marketing.
-
So, for the n'th time; yes; they did lie in the initial reveal trailers.
Gen 3 is like 11 years old now, for crying out loud, it is just as old as the very target audience Pokemon is aimed towards.
That in mind, it's kind of scathing to accuse them of "lying" when as was mentioned previously, half their target audience probably don't know Hoenn even exists due to the generation creep.
-
Pokemon's a kids game ans most kids haven't explored Hoenn yet. Remakes are there to please the fans but also to introduce the target audience to more of the franchise.
Haven't you noticed over the last few years that Pokemon has been making moves to include the older fanbase as well?
Gen 5 made the protagonists 15/16 rather than 10.
Gen 6 has a far darker story [Wars; pokemon die [Gen 1 had this too but not being sacrificed to fuel a weapon of mass destruction] and... well... Lysandre wants to kill everyone], and went out of it's way to pander to Genwunners. Lest we forget things like the skyscraper ghost girl; and the hidden adult humor at times [Hey; that fireworks scene; TM PROTECT]
Nintendo is well aware of the large, older fanbase. So you can't really excuse it as 'Pokemon is for kids only'.
So I think I'm permitted to not take what Nintendo/Gamefreak claims in trailers at face value; considering they have outright lied to their older fanbase, which they are fully aware of, already in this marketing campaign.
-
So I think I'm permitted to not take what Nintendo/Gamefreak claims in trailers at face value; considering they have outright lied to their older fanbase, which they are fully aware of, already in this marketing campaign.
The trailer marketing is hardly aimed at the "older" fanbase considering all Nintendo had to do for the "older fanbase" (whatever that means) is to simply announce "HOENN CONFIRMED GUYS" and then everyone will throw money at them regardless. =V
-
I'm still not sure whether my choice of pre-ordering Alpha Sapphire over Persona Q was the right one.
-
Well, since everyone's going to be playing Pokemon in the weeks after ORAS are released, I feel like you'd get more enjoyment out of buying that game at launch than Persona Q (which will probably be relatively the same experience whether you buy it at launch or after the nuclear apocalypse).
-
Mega Sableye gets Magic Bounce.
-
<Pokemon discussion unrelated to current discussion; feel free to ignore me if you wish>
Why do the not very / normally / super effective sounds seem to be mixed up? I swear I have had something that seemed not very effective but did normal damage...
-
It's probably related to a secondary type that the enemy has. For instance, if I were to use Razor Leaf on a Ludicolo, which is Grass/Water, it'd multiply the damage by 0.5 for the Grass type and then multiply again by 2 for the Water type. Overall, that's normal damage.
-
I've heard that the NVE and normal sound effects have been mixed recently, but I'm not one to confirm.

STREET PASS SECRET BASES PLS
THANKS SUPER SECRET BASED GAMEFREAK

To help you get started with Super-Secret Bases, you?ll meet Secret Base Expert Aarune. Aarune and his Flygon are world travelers, bursting with excitement about the Secret Base culture in the Hoenn region. This enthusiastic adventurer will teach you all about the fun of Secret Bases during your journey.
Bull. Bring back the NPC.
-
CTF was fun for a bit in D/P.
-
You can use Decorations to create tricks in your Secret Base, decide the rules for what kind of Pok?mon battles are allowed there, and make it like your very own Pok?mon Gym! Then get ready for other players to come and challenge you!
and make it like your very own Pok?mon Gym! Then get ready for other players to come and challenge you!
your very own Pok?mon Gym!
-
like your very own Pok?mon Gym!
Key word is like. As in; you put stuff in the base and just like in R/S/E people can fight you there with a preset team you saved or something and you can make it type-themed if you want.
But hey; it's still cool.
What's even more cool is the QR code function; however.
QR Code: The second method is to allow for you to share your Secret Base with people around the world. At the PC, you can create a special QR Code for your Secret Base, which is then saved onto your SD card for you to upload. When people scan the QR Code using the Nintendo 3DS camera, they will gain access to your Secret Base
That's right; we can ALL HAVE EACH OTHER'S BASES.
Suddenly I'm actually into the Secret Base Hype.
-
Okay I'm intrigued by the make your own gym thing
-
you could share secret bases before but you had to link cable
now there's all the wonders of the internet
-
you could share secret bases before but you had to link cable
now there's all the wonders of the internet
Which is why I never cared about them before. No-one to linky with.
-
Link cables and those wireless thingamajigs are also my childhood.
-
They were not mine; so I never really cared about those features. Secret Base was a waste of time for me.
-
Ah, I remember the whole concept of secret bases. They were fun to an extent, because you didn't have that much to do in them. What I used to do was, in order to level up my Pokemon, I connected my Emerald Version to my Ruby Version and mixed the records. That way, I could gain huge amounts of experience by battling my opposite team in each game. :smug:
But, I find the new secret bases, due to the whole "create your gym" thing, to be like an extension to the actual story plot itself. Now there will always be a new gym leader to battle and always a new location to discover; the game pretty much does not end. :D
Anyways, now I have no excuse to not go out and buy a 3DS. I'll probably buy one with the game when it comes out in November. I'm also awaiting Pokemon Z Version, which I predict will be released after Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, much like Emerald was released after Firered and Leafgreen years ago. :D
-
Buying the 3DS now? Welp, be sure to get all the other great games on the thing.

Ace Attorney! M&L! What else am I missing? Probably PMD, but that's a nostalgia thing.
Fire Emblem: Awakening, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Bravely Default, Etrian Odyssey IV, Etrian Odyssey Untold: Millenium Girl too

knockoff already got buffed once, it's perfectly fine now. getting a 50% ATK boost from knocking off an item more than makes up for the loss of it working with Technician
it makes it worth it using as an attack on non technician mons.
EDIT: Mega Metagross confirmed. Is anyone surprised? Not me.
-
EDIT: Mega Metagross confirmed. Is anyone surprised? Not me.
That all but confirms Champion Steven and not Champion Wallace as well.
Which is great.

i think he's joking :V
-

As much as I prefer Steven over Wallace the champion could change. Once Steven is beaten the player could go back and fight Wallace and Steven would then become the super boss for the post game. I wouldn't mind it this way since I want Steven as both really.
And holy crap mega Metagross!
-
Saw some speculation about E4 having Mega Stones due to the watch in Sydeny's art. [And by extension Pheobe]
Hopefully the clip in this trailer which clearly shows Pheobe's Dusknoir and Sydney's Shiftry shuts down that idea since the AI instantly Mega Evolves.
-
I just noticed that the secret bases don't have that stupid random holes BS anymore, which is great.
Also, can we get a Mega Altaria? (It'd be cool if it turns into a thundercloud) It's like the most useless fully evolved dragon ever. And one of my top favorite mons in general, but hush hush
And suddenly, all the Metagross memes just penetrate my thoughts
-
Also, can we get a Mega Altaria?
Yes. Yes you can. (http://serebii.net/corocoro9141.jpg)
Along with Mega Salamence (http://serebii.net/corocoro9144.jpg) and Mega Lopunny (http://serebii.net/corocoro9142.jpg).
Where's my Mega Ninjask, damnit.
-
You can also dress up as idols now.
And Pikachu gets more unique mechanics, learning new moves depending on the costume it wears - for example Pikachu Libre learns Flying Press.
It is also important to note that Mega Lopunny's design is twin tails and stockings.
-
I feel like pointing out you get given a SHINY Beldum with a Mega Stone.
Geez; it's like a normal Beldum ain't good nough.
Also Mega Altaria *Squees*
Too bad I can't transfer my Lv100 Shiny one.
-
Salamence and Lopunny look absolutely ridiculous. Designers what are you smoking.
-
Salamence looks like that one newer Protoss Ship. The one with the long range. :V (Tempest is the name)
But other than that, let's see how they manage to screw up Mega Altaria. :p
Thick Fat (Or in this case, "Thick Fluff") would be a neat ability or maybe Aerilate if the stats go more into the offensive range. But there are enough offensive Dragons already imho.
-
Yes. Yes you can. (http://serebii.net/corocoro9141.jpg)
THANK YOU GAME FREAK. All my dreams. All of them. Except one: please Game Freak, Mega Flygon, and I can die in peace. (Unfortunately, I doubt GF would seriously consider giving Megas to every dragon in 3rd gen... sad face. Although, considering how meh Mega Salamence looks...)
Where's my Mega Ninjask, damnit.
A Ninjask that can't use leftovers or focus sash?
But other than that, let's see how they manage to screw up Mega Altaria. :p
Thick Fat (Or in this case, "Thick Fluff") would be a neat ability or maybe Aerilate if the stats go more into the offensive range. But there are enough offensive Dragons already imho.
Apparently, it has Pixelate (turns normal type moves into fairy type moves) according to Serebii
-
If it even goes Fairy-Dragon then Pixilate is nice, from a design point but in a competitive sense it's rather meh. Well, we'll see how it turns out.
Fairy-Dragon would be an interesting typing at least and if there's any dragon that gets it it should be Altaria. Also allows for some mindgames similar to MegaGyarados.
Even though a Fairydragon needs to have Magic Bounce
-
It IS Dragon-Fairy. Shock and Horror!
Though all the extra cotton candy kind of gives that away
-
Fairy-Dragon would be an interesting typing at least
Fairy/Dragon is a fantastic typing. It has resistances to alot of common attacking types and Fairy/Dragon/Ground/Fire provides all the coverage you need. It'll probably be a decent mixed sweeper, essentially becoming Salamence upon evolving.
I really hope they make it more specially inclined.
-
Guess I was only looking at the thing that Dragon doesn't really bring you much in terms of super-effective coverage (The only things that are not hit super-effective but Fairy but by Dragon are Reshiram & Glurak-X) when you have Fairy and Fairy would only give extra supereffective STAB to Dark instead of having Flying (and Flying STAB is actually desired right now, given that MegaVenusaur is a thing.)
Should've taken a closer look, my bad.
Defensively it of course is fantastic.
I would really like it to be physically defensive to be honest. There's already so many sweeper Dragons and we already have a specially defensive one.
-
Unfortunately, the article mentions only that MAltaria's "Attack and SPAtk are greatly increased". Which would imply that GF decided to push Altaria into more of a bulky mixed sweeper role, rather than enhance its defenses much (if at all).

Possible Mega Slowbro [Weak Armor] and Mega Audino [Healer] from Pokemon Korea leaks.

Mega Slowbro has been consumed by the Shellder and now stands on his tail like a pogo.
Mega Audino is the best looking fluffly white Digimon.

So the first gen 5 mega... is Audino; something that existed purely for grinding.
Also surely Mega Slowbro all but confirms Mega Slowking is happening too.
Edit: Oh wait Gallade says NOPE.
-
Mega Audino is the best looking fluffly white Digimon.
... did anyone else name their Audino "Madoka"?
Mega Slowbro has been consumed by the Shellder and now stands on his tail like a pogo.
I can't. I'm looking at the picture right now and I just can't.
-
Here's the one on Serebii (http://serebii.net/megas.jpg)
eehh?? Did our resident exp grinding machine really need a Mega??? And who in the heck in the design team thought Slowbro needed to be revived?? Also are its arms coming out of Shelder's EYE SOCKETS? Doesn't seem symbiotic anymore. Heck, Shelder doesn't even look sentient anymore
Another video on Serebii seems to confirm the return of lag in Horde battles, which is kind of annoying. I hope they can fix that. I also hope they can manage to fix up the older gen Pokemons' cries. At least Altaria sounds like it should sound like.
-
madoka mega-evolved to ultimate madoka

Mega Audino <3

Oh my god Slowbro you are a horror movie. Good job, I guess?

dragon has excellent neutral coverage though which cannot be downplayed

yes

Dragon is only one SE type and one resist away from being just as bad as Normal-type coverage is.
And you don't hear people saying Normal is good coverage.
I'd say either Fairy or Water is THE best coverage type; especially with the ease those types have getting access to moves which bypass their weaknesses [Cough: Ice Beam on almost every water]

Dragon is no longer a good mono-attacking option because it has an immunity, but if we're counting supplemental coverage then nearly every dragon gets Earthquake and/or Fire Blast for coverage. Dragon isn't strong just because it has good neutral coverage, it's strong because there are a lot of strong base power Dragon moves and Dragon attackers tend to be heavy hitters. People don't run Dragon moves for the coverage, but they do use Dragon attackers for that reason.
Isn't Ice usually regarded as the best single coverage on a type now that Freeze Dry is a thing?
Edit: Or Dark now, I guess. Dark has waaaay too broad of coverage now.
-
Dark got away with good coverage to make up for it's weak moves. [Highest BP move with decent distribution was 80; far lower than any other type bar Ghost; which also has the 'coverage' card] Then Knock Off got buffed to stupid.

And you don't hear people saying Normal is good coverage.
I would say Normal is a pretty good neutral coverage type, especially if more Pokemon got Boomburst, like a normal type/-late ability with more than 100 Sp Atk (mega altaria please). For type coverage? No, but at times using a strong STAB move is better.

Edit: Or Dark now, I guess. Dark has waaaay too broad of coverage now.
Freeze Dry has the same problem as Boomburst. No one gets it. Mamoswine gets it. Mamoswine has 70 Sp Attack.
Vanilluxe gets it, Vanilluxe is really slow and has a horrible defensive typing that prevents it from being a bulky attacker.
Dark and Ghost have pretty much become the new 'best' neutral coverage moves, though you wouldn't use Ghost outside of STAB and the Dark is only really prominent because of how Knock Off is all around a fantastic move with really good distribution, unlike other moves. And also how Sucker Punch is really strong priority. This doesn't mean Normal and Dragon aren't also really good STAB neutral move though - they have really high BP in Return and Draco - but Dragon is more popular because of better stats and having resistances under their belt.
e: Also Mega Audino confirmed via official YT channel.

After seeing the actual official reveal-video about Mega-Slowbro I must say that it looks much less distressed about its state of being confined in this shell(-der).
At least much less than it should. :V
(I'm still of the opinion that Mega-Slowbro will not be as good a tank as standard Slowbro with a nice item and Regenerator.)

Here, I'll be the guy who actually links the thing. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgFpPLL0JUs)
I don't follow competitive anymore. Is there anything about Pachirisu that makes it better at using Follow Me than anyone else? Is it the speed and Super Fang?
-
Here, I'll be the guy who actually links the thing. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgFpPLL0JUs)
Duh. Forgot about that. :V
Well, Follow me has a +2 priority anyway and will go first before any move you'd want to redirect except for Extreme Speed.
Pachirisu can take a few hits but in that regard there is a more robust option just for Follow Me in Togekiss.
So it basically is because of the rest of Pachirisu's utility, namely Super Fang and Nuzzle. You can't prevent Nuzzle via Taunt since it's not actually a non-attacking move which makes it more valuable than Thunder Wave, alongside with it breaking Sash/Sturdy.
-
Yeah, I meant speed when it comes to Super Fang and others. Forgot about Nuzzle.
-
There is very little reason to use Pachirisu. It's only niche is as said, nuzzle, and drawing electric attacks. It's frailness isn't really suited for vgc, but it took hits surprisingly well. Amoonguss probably would have done a similar thing, just be much more ordinary and not have an immunity to electric and ground, or the ability to paralyse to control speed (though sleep is a pretty good status).
e: Oh Togekiss is a better comparison, guess paralysing things fast was an important thing for the team. A mix between Zapdos and Toge

So yeah, "shocking new pokemon project." Augest 26. Going to be streamed on NicoNico.
Pokemon eroge. Pretty much the only thing that would get a genuine shock out of me.

actually Pachirisu is the bulkiest VGC-legal Follow Me user aside from Lucario, who has better things to do than to be a Follow Me user.
Pachirisu has 90 base SpDEF, which is the highest of all Follow Me users currently used in VGC. Se Jun originally used Amoonguss to setup for Gyarados, but everybody figured out how to deal with Amoonguss fairly easily, whereas Pachirisu is very uncommon and a surprise pick. Furthermore Pachirisu can stop the Zapdos+Talonflame combo almost dead in its tracks, so it's pretty clear Park did his homework

So yeah, "shocking new pokemon project." Augest 26. Going to be streamed on NicoNico.
"The event, hosted by fashion model Ayana Tsubaki and Famitsu?s Bunbun Maru, will be streamed on NicoNico, where it?s referred to as a ?big announcement.? There will be appearances by Pok?mon Company president and CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara, voice actors Nobuhiko Okamoto (Origami Cyclone in Tiger & Bunny, Rin in Blue Exorcist) and Aoi Yūki (Iris in Pok?mon Black and White, Madoka in Madoka Magica), and more. "
So... Clearly they'll be announcing a Madoka Magica X Blue Exorcist X Tiger & Bunny X Pokemon cross over, right?

Oh, follow me has pretty terrible distribution doesn't it. Well Togekiss will be legal next year though, and the fact remains that Pachirisu will rarely fit that well into a general team since people will usually opt for a Rotom or Zapdos for those resists and not run Gyarados so offensively based. In fact isn't Sejun the only person who uses M-Gyarados.
-
Actually Pokken Tournament, which is a Tekken-style Pokemon arcade fighting game was confirmed in the stream literally just now.
-
now lucario gets to show up in 3 different fighting games oh boy
breloom when
-
Only on arcade machines? There goes any hope of playing it.
Even though it might have said arcade 'first' the chances of it generating enough interest via arcade machines (quite a smaller audience) and then it actually being made and then localised are pretty slim. At best there'll be a lukewarm reception and we'll all be playing the main line games.
-
So sick of Lucario. No more Lucario ever please. Also, Nintendo, while you're already heeding my demands for this game, make Muk playable.
-
i am only minorly interested unless I can stomp all the swole fighters with cute fairies
-
Personally, I would have hoped for a Marvel vs Capcom like game so we could add a bit more non-standard fighter-y characters a la Amaterasu.
I'm expecting some of: Gallade, Poliwhirl, Hariyama, Mienshao, etc.
Though I hope some non-fighting types also make it, like: Bisharp, Beedrill, Golem, Zangoose, Golurk, Doublade, etc.
-
why is nintendo so obsessed with lucario

um it's a bamco game so it'll most likely get ported to the WiiU, the main dispute is when exactly that will happen. And Pokken Tournament is trademarked in US and EU.
i am only minorly interested unless I can stomp all the swole fighters with cute fairies
apparently the roster will be formed based on popularity as well as what would work, so we'll see
why is nintendo so obsessed with lucario
the same reason why there's lucario porn
-
Well if it's Namco+Nintendo it could be anywhere from 1-2 years from the Japan arcades. At least there is a planned eventual release unlike Rune Factory 4 and there is no chance for cancellation.
Machamp may get a mega too, considering it is the only one without one in the initial cast.

the same reason why there's lucario porn
Well said. I was trying to think of a way to say that that didn't sound flamey but I couldn't do it. :derp:

Considering we only know 3 of the cast it's a bit soon to say that.
We could have things like Infernape and Poliwrath.

Sorry to stray off topic but where can I watch the VGC (is that what its called?) tournament? I really want to watch that last match!
Pokemon fighting game... As long as its balanced but offers different playstyles and ways to counter stun locking then I'll be happy.

Pokemon, always seems to prove that legendaries are not always the best.
-
In the recent leak, Mega Sharpedo, Camerupt & Gallade. Nothing that was unexpected.
Don't have a permanent link on me, but the designs are just alright.
Mega Sharpedo gets Strong Jaw, Camerupt Sheer Force.
-
Figured they would get a mega form considering people saw they had mega stones. Mega gallade... I'm happy T-T.
-
Well we didn't expect Wally to have a Mega.
Man it's like there's more trainers who use it in Hoenn than Kalos. MULTIPLES more.
Also Camerupt literally has Team Magma's emblem on it's head.
-
"Primal Kyogre has a new ability called Sea of Beginnings and Primal Groudon has a new ability called Land of Endings. They activate what is called Strong Rain and Strong Sunlight respectively. It is not known how different this is to normal."
g-gamefreak you just finished nerfing weather and now you're buffing it again
(it's just the two weather-dedicated ubers but let me make a point anyway)
-
I think everyone knew as soon as they were getting those 'Ancient Devolutions' they would be getting Old Drizzle/Drought.
And Gamefreak dosen't even care. Those two are not supposed to be balanced anyway. They're literally banned in every form of competition. Maybe Gamefreak just noticed Kyogre wasn't the undisputed king of Ubers anymore.
Also the more I think about it the more evidence there is that saying this game happens with Gen 1 is stupid. All this Mega Evolution and yet in Gen 6; at least 10 years after Gen 1 [Probobly closer to 15] it's a mystery, in the region which discovered it, and is stated, in the game, to be the only region it occurs in at the time, with Mega Stones only occurring in Kalos [Because they are a byproduct of the legendaries]
So Mega Evolution being this widespread in Hoenn [Main character; Steven; Archie; Maxie; WALLY; Altaria person. At least] seems impossible to be the case 10~15 years before X/Y.
-
Is "Altaria person" Winona, the 6th gym leader? Because that's what comes to mind. Drake would be more of a Salamence person.
-
Well if you do believe in the timeline of pokemon then who's to say they made ruby and sapphire take place much longer after x and y.
-
Is "Altaria person" Winona, the 6th gym leader? Because that's what comes to mind. Drake would be more of a Salamence person.
I think he means Lisia, the idol.

So, that Mega Rayquaza, folks... much awesome, such power, wow. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=WPQg3lSvWc4)
-
The ability at least sounds interesting. "Flying types are protected"
I wonder if it will count as some sort of weather and hope it will overwrite the Primal-weather stuff of Groudon and Kyogre just to keep Rayquaza's role intact. (The story-role that is)
That special move also looks pretty nice but since no information outside of names and animations is given there's not much to go off of.
I guess its defense won't rise much and offensively it will remain roughly equal in Special/Normal attack.
-
According to Serebii, the ability is essentially a new weather effect because it replaces any weather in play and causes all moves that are SE against Flying-types to do normal damage to Flying-types. This remains so long as Ray is in the field (and only when he is there), so "weather" was probably a bad word. We also don't know what happens if you, say, switch your weather inducer in on Rayquaza, since that description may indicate that Ray-weather has precedence.
The unique move is supposed to be the "strongest Flying-type move".
Edit @ 16:02: Mega Rayquaza has been revealed. It has a new ability called Delta Stream which creates a new weather effect that removes weather and makes moves of a type that Flying-type Pok?mon are usually weak to will only deal normal damage to any Flying-type Pok?mon in the battle. It lasts as long as Rayquaza is in battle
Edit @ 16:08: Trailer also shows a move called Dragon Ascent which is said to be the most powerful Flying-type move
-
inb4 freeze shock/ice burn charge attack nonsense
-
Dragon Ascent on the website is described as being one of the most powerful flying type moves, hence not necessarily the strongest. During the stream as well it seemed there were stat drops afterwards. Most likely Dragon Ascent will be a flying type Close Combat (it drops both defences, just like Close Combat).
As regards to Mega Ray's stats, in the stream and video it noticeably OHKO'd a Politoed and Swamped, some moderately bulky Pokemon. Doing some quick calculations Mega Ray probably has around 190 Attack. On the website it has been said that almost all its stats rise during the Mega evolution so I predict that all stats other than Attack rise by 10 or 20 except for one Defence. Or perhaps Speed is the stat that doesn't increase.
Delta Stream also only removes the flying weaknesses to clear up the vague wording. An ice type move on Mega Ray will still be 2x.
e: Deliberating further, "It boasts one of the greatest power ratings of all Flying-type moves, putting it at the top of its class" seems to imply it is tied for highest BP, putting Dragon Ascent at 140BP like Sky Attack, which revises Mega Ray's Attack to 180. I'm beginning to feel really inclined that each attack will get +30 and each defence +20 while its speed remains unchanged. If so that would be a pretty average stat distribution.
-
Mega Lati@s confirmed and confirmed to be bound to some sort of flying mechanic which lets you:
1: Catch pokemon in the sky
2: Visit new islands
Also Mega Beedrill [Has Adaptability] and Mega Pidgot [Has No Guard. It learns Hurricane.]. I assume this pretty much confirms Mega Butterfree. Also worth mentioning Weedle and Pidgey were NOT in the Hoenn Dex before.
Also it's been confirmed that you will be able to catch Palkia/Dialga and Rshiram/Zerkohm or however you spell those in the game; and it's been confirmed as being the case 'so you can obtain every pokemon within the Gen 6 games'. I guess this confirms Kyurem and Girantina too. [Not sure of this counts event exclusives]
Which confirms the Jhoto; Sinnoh and Unova starters for being somewhere within OR/AS as well.
-
Zerkohm
Why isn't this its actual name?
-
Actually if every single pokemon is gonna be obtainable between X/Y and OR/AS that's a heck of a lot of legends they gotts fit in; and a lot of postgame content.
I mean we still need to fit in; discounting the Hoenn legends and event only mons:
Entei; Raikou; Suicune; Ho-Oh; Lugia; Heatran; Cresselia; Uxie; Azelf; Mespirit; Girantina; Dialga; Palkia; Regigigas [Well he should be obtainable in Hoenn anyway because Regis. Add him to the first Regi quest place; return to where you begin it]; Coablion; Virizon; Terrakion; Tornadous; Thunderus; Landorus; Zekrom; Reshiram; AND Kyurem.
Bolded being already confirmed.
And that's disregarding the need for events for all the event legends as well if that is the intent to have 'everything obtainable within Gen 6'.
And this is just legends. We're disregarding whatever it is that nets you three starter sets [Well; a choice from them]
It appears the postgame will be a lot more fleshed out than X/Y.
-
That's pretty awesome. The Sevii islands were my favorite part about the FRLG remakes.
That's also where you obtained a lot of the non-Kanto poke's. If they made a bigger version of that, that'd be awesome.

Lati@s is a friggin' legendary though, not bad as far as HM slaves go.

Yeah but it kinda sucks considering they probobly turn up postgame and you have to dump a bro for them to fly around.

To explain it (extremely subjectively) without getting specific, he's a horror writer and illustrator who writes great short stories, but his longer stuff always gets bloated and weird because it tends to be a bunch of short stories strung together in a way that doesn't make that much sense. He's an excellent illustrator though, and that shows in the one picture from this collaboration I've seen so far. Really want to see Weezing, Muk, and Cofagrigus now.

Really, really disappointed to hear they didn't fix the framerate problem in 3D. Kind of kills the point of even using it as a feature. Not that XY used it outside of like, caves and battles anyway.
Maybe it'll run better on the New 3DS.

Although I do have to say it'll be easy to find a counter to mega beedrill since if you see someone running it it'll mostly be megas now. But it could also depend on if their person plays tiers so anything goes I guess.

Definitely, and it has certain obvious weaknesss (coughdefensecough). But you might be able to take advantage of that by faking it out as your mega and using some kind of set that counters its counters. Special Beedrill? Yeah, no, nevermind... :V Although a hazards set that tries to set up on walls that switch in to it might be cool.

Hold your fucking horses.
Hoopa-M
What.
Is this a datamine?

That's not too bad. Use different pokemon that can mega but try and play a mind game. I can't remember but which mega is better to wait later then to evolve ASAP? If not then I must be remembering something else.

From what I understand, this info was found in the code of the ORAS demo.
In fact, the stats from that post earlier were copypasted straight from here: http://pokebeach.com/2014/10/mega-hoopa-uncovered-in-oras-demo-stats-for-mega-evolutions
-
Hoopa-M
That's a Hoopa forme just to make it clear. Not a Mega Evolution.
A lot of thing has been found the past days, including Move Tutors, TM/HMs, learnsets 2014 almost 2015, Gyarados gets Crunch :v
, texts, sprites have been dumped, and other stuff.
-
What's Slowbro-M's ability? If they're replacing Regenerator they may as well throw in Levitate so I can crown it ultimate physical tank already. Gosh it's like Steelix but good. Metagross, Salamence and Gallade are also insane. Shame about Altaria. :V

Pretty sure it's Shell Armor. Which is actually pretty good on CroBro.

MegaMence is gonna be really fun to play.
...In Ubers.

MegaGross seems pretty nice too.

Uh... Yes. Pretty clearly. I don't think you'll find a person on Earth who will dispute that. But Mega Slowbro at least sort of has a use for what is usually one of the chumpiest abilities around that still actually has an effect.
-
They gave Salamence enough defence to take an Ice Shard from LO Mamo (252+) after SR. It also gets roost. Meanwhile every other Mega is just real fast.

Rare Candies are fucking cheap, you can buy a bunch on PGL with the trillion pok?miles you probably have. 1000 BPs or GTFO.
btw by now I have ~730 BPs awaiting on bank, I'll be really happy if I can import then into OR/AS

potions are even cheaper and are virtuallu worthless though unless you are doing some kind of no-shop run where 200 potions might be relevant
and for the record i stopped playing x on my 3ds since minthd ago because #reallifeproblems

Apparently Diancie is out at Gamestop now. I should pick mine up so I can be ready for pokemon!Ultimate Madoka.
I got my own code online from a taco store. Dunno about today, but yesterday they were still not tradeable over Wi-Fi (even after the update). Some actual Gamestop Diancies also aren't giving any guaranteed perfect IVs (a server-sided issue with half codes starting with A4AZ and A4AA). It's like they're not putting any effort on this lol. Ya better hope your code starts with A4A2.
-
I never knew they were SUPPOSED to give perfect IVs. Huh.
-
I never knew they were SUPPOSED to give perfect IVs. Huh.
All KB legendaries (both ingame, like Zygarde, and event, like Celebi or Diancie, are supposed to have 3 guaranteed 31's in random stats).
-
Welp, went to gamestop and picked up 3 cards. All of them are A4AZ.
I think I might try another location tomorrow just before giving in.
What's this 'online at a taco store' you're referring to? Is there a different method of getting them?
-
What's this 'online at a taco store' you're referring to? Is there a different method of getting them?
GamePlanet. It's a mexican store similar to Gamestop, but gives the codes online (with a limit of codes). They've started giving these codes since the last Shiny Gengar event. On both the Gengar and Diancie ones, they've been heavily abused by "Hola" extension (I was one of them, being a South American is suffering :V), a lot of actual mexicans whined about not getting codes and now they're taking action to limit the range of it. Heard they managed to block Hola, but I won't know until the next event.
Welp, went to gamestop and picked up 3 cards. All of them are A4AZ.
If you care about the IVs you could wait until the issue is resolved. It's most certainly server-sided.
-
Well, I haven't used mine yet and later research after my post brought up mention of an update or something that supposedly fixes it (1.3?), so I'll look more into that tomorrow.
-

People on reddit have reported it still happening in 1.3, and even one day after the patch they still weren't tradeable online. Like I said, it's most likely server-sided, and unfixable after you redeem it. I'd wait a week.
Meanwhile, new OR/AS videos, mostly featuring new themes:
Littleroot Town, Bicycle, Dive, Route 120: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nb31zsPqbG8
Birch under attack, Rival: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Grv_rt_58Lc
Archie/Maxie, Route 110, Gym Leader: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTwJbvB9xRw
holy shit archie/maxie one is amazing
-
Yeah, I'll wait a while then. Lemme know when it is fixed for sure.

'Kay.
Video comparison between RS/ORAS (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTE6sXYJbv8). Some neat stuff.
Lol the eon duo has 0 IVs on GBA side and 31 on 3DS one

Just a couple days left.
Picked up AS off Amazon.

I think I'll go pick up my copy on opening day as well.

I'm still stuck before Grant in Y. Can I have someone's free time, plz?

Alpha Sapphire for $44. Finally decent priced video games.

Alpha Sapphire for $44. Finally decent priced video games.
I'm so out of touch with gaming that I can't tell if that's sarcasm.
Not sure how well I'll be following this release - the demo and new designs have knocked the wind of out my sails a bit, and I won't even have the time to do so in a few weeks. I mostly want to see the landscapes at this point.
-
I live in Australia, where ORAS was originally priced $50 - 65 (thank you EB), so $44 is a godsend.
-
I still haven't fully finished pokemon x, but not sure if I should get the new ones or go for ssb4... I hate choices lol.
-
Alpha get. Let's do this.

My sister had that happen twice actually. In Crystal, she found a purple Spinarak, and in Sapphire, a purple Wurmple. Both showed up before she was allowed Pokeballs to actually catch them...
Anyways, OR get! (it's $40 here in the US) Though I won't be able to play it until after work since I have to leave shortly.
-
My Alpha Sapphire just shipped this morning, it should be here around Monday. I'm just crossing all my fingers hoping it doesn't get clearance delay.
-
Picked up Alpha Sapphire today.
Man why is the male rival theme still pitched down compared to the female rival's theme? The latter is far superior and still is in the remake.
-
I just started and I already found a typo.
In Birch's laboratory, it says, "There are a lot books written by Professor Birch here!" I think there's an "of" that's missing.
The best part is that they're trying to teach Japanese on the TVs. I just think it's a bit ironic.
And also, that intro sequence was so cool.
-
Man why is the male rival theme still pitched down compared to the female rival's theme? The latter is far superior and still is in the remake.
As in why not just make a male version remix instead?
I agree that the other is better though. It's also entirely possible that the female rival theme is a pitched up version of the male one.
-

No I mean just use the female one for both simply because it sounds better :V

Someone was kind enough to make a base with 6 level 100 Blisseys with only Healing Wish. (http://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/2n1oez/just_made_a_secret_base_with_6_lvl_100_blisseys/) Hopefully someone makes a QR code for every base possible.
-
Got my first badge in OmegaRuby so far, progress has been bogged down by DexNav and my compulsion to catch everything I can in a region before progressing onwards.
-
I am still literally at the part after meeting Wally for the first time because I went to catch a Ralts and have done nothing but EV train her since catching her
Like I am still standing in the same grass spot and I'm just passing the time away doing this
why do i do this to myself
-
There doesn't appear to be a hunger bar when feeding Pokemon with pokeblocks, so does that mean you can max out all contest stats, or will it have sort of an EV limit?
-
No Battle Frontier.
Worst, it's potentially hinted at existing by some NPC's in the 'Battle Resort. I swear to Arceus if they make it DLC....
-
I just raised one of my Pokemon's beauty stat to max using the lowest level pokeblock which was not possible in previous games. I also then fed it all the free pokeblocks of other stats and never got full. It seems there is no limit anymore.

Wally's theme reminds me so much of Remilia's in the beginning parts.
When I heard it first I was very confused for the first few seconds. :V

Feels like a new game when you play the other version. Who knew Lotads came this early.

Didn't they show up early in the old games too? There were uncommon IIRC.

Pretty sure Lotad/Seedot always showed up as early as Route 102. You can usually tell the encounter rates are changed between versions within 3-4 routes at most.

Sorry if I'm remembering incorrectly but weren't theory also version exclusives? Couldn't you get both in emerald.
-
I just realized I can trade-volve with a single 3ds on the GTS since now I have 2 Pokemon games.
EDIT: Cool little detail I noticed, the DexNav detects Pokemon in the overworld and seem to add it to the Pokedex without an encounter.
-
Sorry if I'm remembering incorrectly but weren't theory also version exclusives? Couldn't you get both in emerald.
Both Seedot's line and Lotad's line appear in Emerald, but at the same time Surskit, which appears in a lot of the same areas, is no longer available and can only be caught in Ruby/Sapphire. Third versions usually have some of the exclusives that appeared in both of their original games, but at the cost of a few Pokemon that were available in both versions of the original.
-
Surskit may have been available in almost the entire world but it was like a sub-1% chance encounter @_@; I got one immediately in OR though :D Even if it's garbage until it hits lv17 for bubblebeam... but the way the EXP Share works now makes deadweight pokemon like that a non-issue. (I haven't played since the actual ruby/sapphire emerald so this is a lot of new features! Catching pokemon is a lot more interesting and fun now)
But yeah, if you've ever seen a pokemon, the nav seems to display it. And then once you've caught one, you can just force a battle with it, making rarity a non-issue... neat! It's also kinda convenient for grinding since you can just pick the pokemon that you hit weaknesses on, but, grinding also seems like much less of a thing with how the EXP share works.
Mmmn, I might actually go for filling out the dex since it won't be hard to powerlevel things to evolutions. But I'm only in Dewford so that's a bit far away :V
-
Yeah, in the original two games, Seedot was in Ruby and Lotad was in Sapphire. Surskit and Ralts were like impossible to find in those games because they had like a 1% chance of actually showing up. I've actually spent a good hour or longer in the original Ruby just waiting for a Surskit to actually appear.
-
Many, many hours have been spent on those Route 102 Ralts.
-
And now they're super easy to get!
I uh... kinda forgot to save last night and my battery died while I was asleep, so I have to start all over. I've already caught TWO Ralts (in less than 5 battles)-- one male, one female. Gonna start super training the female one... again. What a long process.
-
Got my (Sapphire) copy earlier. Played it for about an hour so far, and I don't know, not that into it so far. No new Pokemon and a remake of a game I already played but didn't love... It's fine, it's not great. I probably won't speed through it like I did Y. At least this time Koffing is available early rather than not at all.
-
Nuzlocke was going well until Retaliate Slaking came.
-
Well, I'm up to Mauville now, and...
"I used to run a business here, but I had to close it for reasons you don't need to know."
I shouldn't be feeling such an impact from that line, but... it just... ow.
-
Ah ha ha Flannery's dialogue is fantastic (I said I probably wasn't going to power through this game but I aaaaaam).
Edit: Route 118 is giving me vivid Touhoumon flashbacks.
-
I probably am not the first to say this, but Wally is friggin' adorable.

No particular reason, I just very clearly remember that route from Touhoumon Emerald for some reason.
Edit: Wait, where do you even add people in ORAS? I can't remember/figure out where the codes go.
-
The QR codes? In your secret base. Friend codes? In the 3DS friends list

About to fight Norman.

I played wonder trade roulette to get my team, and wound up with a chespin (dumped my treecko), a ghastly (now haunter), a beldum (aww yeah metagross), and a gible (now gabite, but probably getting dumped since I don't like garchomp). Just beat Winona.
Still trying to catch everything in sight. First catch was a zigzagoon/linoone and I've been using it as a HM slave (plus thunder wave) ever since, and pickup's really handy when you're actually playing through the game it turns out. I really need something neat to use electric attacks, though; skarmory is a huge pain in the ass <_<
My Latias had a super awful typing, which is a shame, but I wasn't planning on using it in battles anyway.

I got lucky and my Vileplume ended up with HP Electric. Which is good, because mono-grass STAB sucks in ORAS and it had already leveled past any damaging poison moves by the time I caught it.
Incidentally, does anyone know where the Sludge Bomb TM is? :derp:

I haven't been keeping track of ORAS updates for months; did the Latis get new typings?

If they haven't changed anything, a dude will show up in the middle of the WHAT'S HIP NOW club in 2nd Gym Island (Dewford? Just off of memory here...) after, I think, you win your 5th badge? He'll say SLUDGE BOMB is hip and give you Sludge Bomb.

Need someone to help me evolve my Seadra via trade! FC is 2251-5199-2177. Find me on IRC in #scarlet-library or #motktown or message me privately or something. Thanks!
-
If you own two Pokemon games, you can GTS yourself to transfer/trade evos. From the recipient trainer, place a Magikarp on the GTS for the Pokemon you wish to transfer and complete the trade from the other trainer.
It isn't as fast as Bank for transporting or 2 3DS for trading but it works.
-
Wish I had known that earlier :( I do have two games but I only brought Alpha Sapphire home with me.
Still looking for someone to help me evolve :L
Edit: Found someone!
-
Postgame spoilers:
Dunno if it's a callback to Pokemon Mystery Dungeon or they forgot they made the damn thing, because I didn't expect another "call Rayquaza to save the world from meteors" quest! Totally better the first time. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfZSi18GdO0&feature=youtu.be&t=1m36s) ...I'll admit they did good with the random event reference, though. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hnp5RvmrGc&feature=youtu.be&t=1m31s)

I think it's awesome that Deoxys is no longer event-only seeing it's 4 formes make it pretty cool. That and the UK never had a Deyoxs event.

Yes? ;_; Getting the Latis in the originals was GSC-level-roaming-legends-in-postgame hard. Memories of trying to nab it with Mean Look Crobat because that's allll I haaaad, except it was weak to Psychic.
EDIT: Megaray is so strong he's literally unplayable. (http://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/ubers-is-now-a-tier-a-new-metagame-called-anything-goes-is-added-m-ray-is-banned-from-ubers.3523205/)

The only thing opposing the ban on Mega Rayquaza was whether or not Ubers was a banlist or not.
That thing is too strong.
-
This turnout of events pleases and amuses me. The weather trio always struck me as being the only truly malevolent legendaries out there in the Poke-verse. At least in Pokemon special.

now that the Anything Goes metagame exists I want to see someone build Sand Veil Garchomp with Brightpowder and Double Team

Except Darkrai who's pretty content locking people in nightmares that only Cresselia can cure. And let's not even go into PMD Darkrai.
And Yveltal who is outright stated to be the embodiment of death and kills everything around it to reincarnate.
Those two are pretty malicious too.

Too bad Movie 10 Darkrai was a big fat hero. :V
Damn that was a cool scene. (http://youtu.be/UPWCTZ3kqEc?t=1h10m30s)

That's 1 canon against two.
And Yveltal is still a life-stealing embodiment of death.

We are adding a new metagame called Anything Goes (AG). AG has no bans, and no clauses, except for Endless Battle Clause.
So not even species clause? heh
6 MRAY TEAM GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

6 Moody Bidoofs.
Call that creativity.

Eh...That was tedious but at least it felt like you earned it instead of the game handing it to you.
Also, how bad could MegaRay actually be, huh? (clicks) ...Man those are some high numbers. o__o I'm getting a bit of a Gen 1 Mewtwo vibe here, remember how broken Mewtwo was?
In other news, decided to sit down and plant some berries...Though it's annoying not having all the growth times in one easily-accessible place (and Bulbapedia hasn't updated their wiki to include full ORAS info yet). Right now I'm growing some Leppa berries and a couple of EV-reducing berries. I also learned you can Fly to individual routes in this game, that...Is really useful! :3c
-
Right now I'm growing some Leppa berries and a couple of EV-reducing berries.
You might not have to spend so much time doing that-- aren't those rather obsolete at this point? I mean, all you really need is a reset bag and just run training to get the EVs you prefer.
-

I forgot about Yveltal since I didn't play Y so I don't know his deal, but he strikes me as more a force of nature than evil. Which I suppose you could argue the same for the weather trio, except they seemed particularly hell-bent on causing destruction just for the sake of it. There was some setting somewhere that said that Darkrai's nightmares were only a defense mechanism and aren't necessarily malicious.
-

EV-reducing berries have a few other uses: being used for pokeblocks, if you want to do minute changes to EVs (say for instance you went over by 8 EVs and dont want to retrain other stats), and to raise friendship.
-

Reset Bags don't always drop when you need them to (annoyingly enough), and Bio raises a good point. It's more of a curiosity than anything, I'd like to see if the growth times or mutations have changed between X/Y and ORAS (having more berries in general helps, even if you don't use them that much).

Mm, good point. I hadn't considered growth time measurement and such.
As far as reset bags go, I think I've just naturally got one every time I worked on super training EVs to maximum. But just one each time.
-
I haven't seen any berry mutations happen, but I honestly forgot most of the combinations that make them happen and I think you can get a lot of the berries those combinations create as it is.
Beat the E4 and Steven, my team was Blaziken/Sharpedo/Cradily/Magneton/Flygon/Gardevoir. My tip: once you make it through Victory Road and can fly to the League, go to Lilycove and delete any HM moves off your team, then use TMs or the Fallarbor move relearner to add moves you find more suitable to your team. Use the Eon Flute to fly back with your battle-ready team.

What is it with Nintendo and musical instruments that make you warp around? That...Is hella useful. I'm almost done with my berry farming anyways (I'm missing Bluk berries), so I may go ahead and finish the game.
Since Kyogre/Groudon are cutscene-locked, if you defeat them the first time and encounter them later, will their natures and stats change?
-
All legendaries fought in the story (except the ones you are forced to capture) can be defeated and then soft reset for later.
-
Ok, good. :D I don't need a giant fishmonster to beat the E4 anyways T 3 T spoilers I actually love kyogre please don't hate me, game
In other news...A bit late, but if you want a 3DS XL, best get it now. (http://bulbanews.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Nintendo_3DS_XL_production_to_be_discontinued_in_Japan)

Or just wait a few months and get the New Nintendo 3DS XL. Which is what I'll be doing. :V

Pokemon Special Kagari is best Kagari.
Though I don't mind new AR Kagari, I feel they relied a bit too much on cheap tropes to develop her character. Too much of a kuudere moe doll. At least in Japanese, not sure what the English translation did for her though.

Same. The inner completionist compelled me otherwise
The only thing that bothers me atm is that you can't buy evolution stones in this game, you have to earn them through Super Training. Oh well, at least it gives me an excuse to use it.
-
It's not too bad, especially when you consider it only takes a minute or less to clear each training round at that point.
But yeah I'm all about the new 3DS because better processing power. Maybe I can finally use the 3D without gross framerate drop! (That and my normal 3DS just hurts to hold after a while, I want a bigger one.)
-
(That and my normal 3DS just hurts to hold after a while, I want a bigger one.)
Yeah, I feel ya. Those corners...Might as well be an NES controller at that point. :V
In other news, tried my hand at Wonder Trading in my Y game...I got two Wurples, a Goldeen and a Skorupi. :derp: I plan on making this my "Advent Calendar" of sorts; to WT one Pokemon a day until Christmas. Sadly, results don't look good at the moment, I think everyone's got the same idea as me.
-
I get ya'll with the uncomfortable 3DS problems. I wouldn't mind an upgrade either.
I downloaded Alpha Sapphire and been playing that. There was a couple of incidents with the touchpad and one thing lead to another and my Treeko is nicknamed Ffj. In my defense though, the enter button really looks like the backspace button.

I don't know why they arranged it like that in the 3DS games, it does feel a bit unintuitive. >_>
Firth day of Wonder Trading: German Shroomish. To its credit, it has a good nature (Jolly) and a good ability (Poison Heal), so this wasn't a bad find.
UPDATE: Sixth day gave me a JP Zigzagoon.
Also, a question: in order to get the Diploma (or whatever it's called these days), do you have to have the Pokedex filled for one country, or does it take into account all your catches from every country?
-
The next Pokemon movie will feature a shiny Mega Rayquaza. Oh boy, I can't wait for the Japan only shiny Rayquaza event.
-

I got the Regional Diploma and I have Spanish, German, and Japanese in my dex so it doesn't matter as long as you have it.
-
Thanks to Dexnav I now have what I think is an ideal breeding pair to obtain a 5IV Chinchou, aiming for Calm nature and Volt Absorb, all the moves I need should be obtainable naturally or via TM.
-
Can anyone break down for me an ideal breeding/nature/whatever setup for a Gelade to help capture things?
Or whatever it's called. The male version of Gardevoirs evolution chain.
God, I'm such a filthy casual.

Considering Conquest had a Shiny Rayquaza event as well or something if I recall it's not like Shiny Ray is special.

Adamant nature for stronger attack power on False Swipe, you can get Hypnosis by leveling up Ralts/Kirlia before evolving it and Thunder Wave can be gained via TM, so you don't really need to worry about passing down any moves. Your fourth move can be whatever, personally I'd go with Double Team if you're trying to capture something like a legendary that has a risk of hitting you for heavy damage while you're trying to catch it.
-
Taunt is another option to stop recovery.
-
Just got this game and loving it. Although not the most attractive offer could anyone mind getting me a ralts around level 9(this doesn't matter to much yeah preferable) with a nature that increases special attack(not bashful pls) and doesn't decrease special defense and defense and preferably doesn't decrease speed?
I'll trade you my male skitty in return, not the best deal sorry but please. Since I just got my first badge Level 10 or above would be preferable but any level is fine.
-
I got Omega Ruby.
I have the bright idea to enter a Voltorb into a Cuteness content.
Aside from it's intro being HILARIOUS [Voltorb trying to be uggu~], when it got the crowd going:
'Voltorb's irrestible Cuteness is explodeing from it'
That might not be cuteness guys. That's a Voltorb. *BOOM*
Also naturally this Voltorb did nothing but spam rollout the entire contest. And it won.
Totally gonna go for Contest Star on this thing. Because Explosion/Selfdestruct wrecks contents. And the idea of a Voltorb/Electrode being the top Contest star is hilarious.
The cutest Pokeball.
I can't wait to learn some moves by leveling up [I've not used a Voltorb in forever] and teach it some Beauty moves. Like blowing itself up.
===
Andf I beat Master Rank. Apparently a gumpy-looking Voltorb with pink hearts around it is art and is going in a museum. Wat.
-
Art is nothing that needs to be understood anyway. :V
Back on the original games I did one of the contest-types with a Ditto.
-
Back on the original games I did one of the contest-types with a Ditto.
Now that's just cheating.
-
Ahh, "cheating" sounds so harsh and negative.
It is actually quite a high art.
Not only do you have to accurately hit the button for using Transform
but you also have to keep your patience when the opponent before you does something incredibly useless.
In all seriousness though, it's brainless and silly.
-
Yeah, by cheating, I meant genius, sorry.
-
I have literally never done a contest ever. I don't even have a vague idea of how the mechanics work. Which seems weird to me now that I think about it, the idea that there's a whole facet of Pokemon I've never seen. Plus Weezing needs to Gotta Win Em' All trademark.
-
Did we ever share secret bases here? I made one for the first time. Feel like I need to improve it in some way though. NPCs are a bit random and team is not final.
Also, contests are hilariously easy in this game, especially for doing everything with one pok?mon. You can literally max out all stats within ~5 minutes lol. If you do so, the only time you can lose is when you compete with Lisia after winning all Master contests once
.
EDIT: satistying flag count and maybe one or two minor changes, don't remember.

Ohh, it looks like we have the same design for secret bases. Just pass by mine. I can say your base looks really cute ;u;, the lighting makes it more comfy, specially because it's inside a cave.
I have never finished contests in master rank >: I'm more of a battling person, netherless I really wanna see what happens if I finish every contest in master rank.
Anyway here is my base (http://puu.sh/eoLWF/699ce37e7f.jpg)

It's really not so hard, and you get a nifty prize at the end.
Also, I just noticed Pok?bank does not transfer items. And I cannot use my brother's 3DS to do my 70 trades because I have a JP 3DS. Wonderful.

Usually my main problem is that I don't think my Pok?mon have usable moves. Any tips? Condition is no problem but moves... well, I usually run two moves that raise the attention of the condition I'm playing, a neighbor move that does not raises attention and finally a move that lowers it.
Do you have exotic Pok?mo? This is tiring but you can trade items via GTS, like for example, you upload a Zigzagon requesting a Xerneas. Then on X/Y you trade said Zigzagon with the Xerneas holding the item.

Thanks! Yours is looking nice too, I liked the dolls placement. You're a bit lonely there though. :V
Updated my previous post with current QR which I'm done with the flags, and maybe did a minor change on something but I can't really remember.

Usually, you don't have to worry too much about how to win. Most of the time, if your Pok?mon has max condition, there isn't too much to do to get first place. I ran a lot of different movesets, but all with a mandatory standard move (4 hearts) and other available stuff, either to prevent damage or to enhance confidence. I never really worried about the ovation.
Also, remember there are combo moves, like Defense Curl + Rollout or Clam Mind + Stored Power that really help getting chunks of points while being good in the contests. My Gardevoir kept spamming Calm Mind + Stored Power and won pretty easily.
You also get bonus hearts if your Pok?mon mega-evolve in the contest.

I will have to resort to that if I don't find anybody with a Japanese 3DS. I grinded those items so much that doing it again already tires me.
Especially those Leftovers.
