Just out from Microsoft, a new animation featuring Microsoft's personified Internet Explorer, Aizawa Inori:

pls

what
-
WTF did I just watch?
-
Nice bit of animation there, honestly.
Still not using Internet Explorer, though.
-
Go home Microsoft, you're drunk.
-
I want this as a series. Can we have it as a series?
Also Nanami, noooo! Though that sign WAS a nice touch.
-
I just watched a video on Internet Explorer's Youtube account while on Chrome. What a world.
that would have made a really nice magical girl henshin sequence if it were juuuuuuust a bit longer

IE is the 'main character' but all the work is actually done by chrome and firefox

"Mmm ... Internet Explorer-tan ... the holes in your security are so wide and appealling ... your load time so ... hobbled. Come to me, I must have you!"
"N-no, Spyware-kun, we ... musn't ... Ours is a love which must never be!"
-
This is a really great metaphor for Internet Explorer users. It doesn't matter how many viruses you get, so long as you have a BITCHIN' firewall protection service.
-
Have to give them credit for trying to appeal to different audiences, though, instead of solely trying to stick with the business-style side of things.
I first heard about this at about 1230pm (local time) and in the last 7 hours (it's now about 740pm here) the Facebook page has gone from sub-800 likes to over 5500. It's interesting that they're sending this to a western audience, because wasn't Naname entirely eastern? I mean I like the idea, enough to where I don't want it to meet an unfortunate, sudden, unannounced end, but it's not enough to make me stop using my other two browsers (I use I.E., Chrome, and Opera)
-
I don't even...MSFT going the ridiculous advertising route again, eh?
On the IE tangent: Over in Korea, where use of anything that isn't IE causes problems.... (http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/asia_pacific/due-to-security-law-south-korea-is-stuck-with-internet-explorer-for-online-shopping/2013/11/03/ffd2528a-3eff-11e3-b028-de922d7a3f47_story.html)
-
Yeah the story of all the crazy proprietary plugins they had to make to get around the encryption export laws is fascinating, and also really really scary.
That being said OMG IE TAN YOU ARE ADORABLE I WANT TO COSPLAY SO BAD IWHJEGRuiopwhrguopwerhgasdfgasgwrgwergv

That seems to be the general opinion on their Facebook page as well. And everyone I've brought this up to. So I think their character designer deserves some props for making non-I.E. users interested, given the whole "lol IE is shit lol" opinion I've seen thrown around.
Not talking about the character, I do like the animation in their YouTube teaser, although I wish they had put more thought into the enemies' appearances (like defined them instead of just being "malicious thing"). Here's hoping for a least some sort of series/ova, though.
-
IE : I want to rebuild my reputation so badly... I need to beat Chrome and Firefox somehow...
QB : If that is what you truly wish for, all you have to do is make a contract with me!
---
But in all seriousness, I did enjoy the animation for this. And now, I really want to see more browsers joining in on this. It would be awesome, hilarious, and you'd watch it just to see what happens~ :derp:
-
dat framerate tho
Just like the real thing, it lags and skips frames from time to time.

I've always been a big fan of the OS-tans, it was like my first fandom. So I was kind of saddened when they kind of died off after Vista, but MS has been pushing them in their Japanese/Taiwanese marketing campaigns and each one has been amazingly adorable.

I never really saw a single "official" vista OS-tan (official used loosely here), although I do remember Microsoft embracing it for Nanami (Win7) in the Japanese market and recently Yuu and Ai with Win8
If this does become a thing, I want Opera. I could care less about Chrome/Firefox (I don't use Chrome that often and I've never used Firefox), but Opera is my preferred browser on my computer.
-
The OS-tans basically fell apart around Vista time. There was a vague "Longhorn-tan" and then a couple of Vista attempts but that was it. OS-tans died until Nanami was brought up for W7 and then Hikari for Silverlight.
-
Silverlight had one? Didn't know that
I remember Longhorn, specifically that if I searched "Longhorn-tan" on Google I got a lot of pictures of "Longhorn Steak House"
-
Hikaru (sorry not Hikari) is Silverlight-tan, and she's cute too.

Ah okay, I think I saw her before but either didn't make the connection, didn't see it in context, or didn't see the image tags
-
... wait she's
literally a Magical Girl!?
This is ALMOST BUT NOT QUITE COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS. XD
Also. (http://kimikomuffin.tumblr.com/post/66232596911)

Ok good I thought it was just my eyes being dumb again.
I don't even know what I watched or why I need to stop clicking on animu styled links my husband puts up.
-
It's interesting that MS is sending this to the west to appeal to the computer nerds who know better already then to not trust IE.
The actual website is interesting and an obvious appeal to western anime nerds as well (who are also probably computer savvy). It's got anime news and such.
Seems like an attempt to win back people who hold a grudge against it, but I won't be swayed.
-
Look at all the add-ons that are being used.
If only add-ons could actually grant you magic powers.

It's sure easy to be popular when you come preinstalled. :V
Not to mention, it's false information. (http://gs.statcounter.com/#browser-ww-monthly-201310-201310-map)
...Wow, Firefox sure got unpopular. A year ago it was dominating whole Europe. I just don't get what's good in Chrome, it just seems unintuitive (I guess it's like the Xbox controller for me, everyone says it's good but for me it's just unnatural).
But I give them that, the animation -IS- good.
-
Does Firefox have an addon that makes your browser into an anime

Some further information:
The character was designed by a Singaporean doujin group called Collateral Damage Studios, and was actually released sometime around May.
The character was recently adopted by Microsoft Singapore (not international, AFAIK) - I am not clear on the details and how it happened. Kind of came out of nowhere. There's a theme pack available too, on the circle's website.
So yeah, it's actually still an eastern thing. The animation was apparently produced by the doujin circle together with an animation studio.
Edit: http://www.collateralds.com/news/random/the-story-of-aizawa-inori/
Official statement via Geekwire:
In conjunction with the launch of Internet Explorer (IE) 11 on Windows 8.1 in October, Microsoft Singapore today unveiled Inori Aizawa (藍澤祈), an original anime character whose backstory symbolizes the browser?s transformation into a modern and powerful best-in-class browser. This was a local Microsoft execution in Singapore in conjunction with the Anime Festival Asia (AFA) 2013. As part of the local execution, this is the most extensive collaboration undertaken by the team to reach out to anime and Japanese popular culture lovers across Asia.
and
The anime character was created by Microsoft Singapore for the Anime Festival Asia (AFA) 2013. This is a local marketing program for anime and Japanese popular culture lovers at AFA 2013 and across Asia and does not represent an official mascot for Internet Explorer.

hi sg person here with random facts about sg doujin scene
Few months ago when preliminary designs were first posted on their (CDS) facebook, it actually garnered more attention than I thought it would among CDS' s fans. Mainly because they're quite profit-based, every event they release goods catering to the mainstream audience to rake in the cash(they auctioned off a set of 6 Date A Live badges at more than 400 sgd I kid you not), and Singapore's original scene here is pretty dead to say the least. (Usually when a group does fanart and original the originals always get mostly ignored)

wait wtf canada and usa
also firefox seems to crash a lot now compared to chrome i dunno what happened
i use both though lol
-
I've had zero problems with FF 24, although I use Chrome as a backup.
-
its actually okay right now but a few versions ago holy shit it just kept crashing and slowing down
-
A few versions ago? Very possible. I would sometimes get crashes, but thought it was due to my putting my laptop on Suspend instead of Shut Down, for weeks at a time.
-
Not sure if it's related, but I've had similar problems with Chrome before, although my issue has been massive lag while Chrome is running (so I don't use it that often any more). I use IE as my primary solely because it starts fastest (out of personal experience) and Opera as my secondary.
Maybe the problem isn't with the browser, but rather with the OS? What if Microsoft wants us to think the other browsers are "not working" just so we all keep using IE?
Yes I'm one of those people who use IE

Meet the anthropomorphized Internet Explorer.
Internet Explorer-Tan! Or Inori Aizawa her official name.
Yes, this is a gig by Microsoft Singapore(of course, not only them) on trying to get favorable results for Internet Explorer, an attempt aimed at anime fans everywhere.

Apparently, she has gained a favorable audience.
Well, we know why that is, right? I'm pretty sure that audience has nothing to do with her being >cute<.

Oh yes.

Objection!
Where's that post in KagerouTech?.. There (http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,14018.msg1024788.html#msg1024788).
Chromium wasn't much better, so I've moved on Firefox after all. To my surprise, FF actually started faster than Chrome.
And it's pretty stable here on my PC, though, to be honest, may lag when opening a new tab, especially a one with YouTube video.
-
> Hello, is this an anime dedicated channel?
> Yes.
> How would I patch KDE2 under FreeBSD?
That joke is older than the Internet and I still laugh at it every time.

The greatest problem of Firefox that it/she is in odds with Flash, so youtube videos (and other Flash-based stuff) can freeze up or crash the browser. I recommend using the new beta feature of youtube, called "Feather" to fix that. Otherwise Firefox is pretty great.

They were promoting this like mad at afa

Really? I don't have that many issues with Firefox and Flash; in fact; I have less than with IE.
Anyway finally managed to see what the deal was about. Magi-tech girl thing promoting IE. Seems overhyped; it's just pandering to a very stereotypical user of the Internet; the modern generation young adult/teen.
Best part was when they snuck in the Wilihelm Scream. It's fun listening for those.

pandering
I take offense to that remark! I'll have you know that anime fans on the internet have the most distinguished of tastes!
