Previous Round (http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,14008.0.html)
Let's revive this! As it hasn't been posted since July, instead of bumping the thread, I just thought it'd be a good idea to make a new round.
So, without further ado, here's your question:
What is your favorite background in Touhou?
For me, it would either have to be either DDC stage 4's Background, or PCB's stage 3 background. TD also has a nice stage 6 background.
I think it would be cool to make this a daily thing again. I'll be willing to keep it active if we happen to miss a day.
-
I really like that waterfall in stage 4 of MoF.
-
Seconding MoF stage 4. Also, PoFV Yuuka's stage. Who knew a sunflower field can look so menacing. Lastly, I've recently grown to enjoy the tranquility of TD stage 1.
-
Stages 3 and 4 of both MoF and SA, also Forest of Magic in GFW
Main stages aside, I also like how the background on Eirin's fight changes on every nonspell
-
I really like vibrant and colourful backgrounds, so MoF's selection is an instant hit for me. The extra stage in particular has a really nice and pleasant feel to it.
I also love the milky night sky in UFO extra, the gradient really does it for me, although it's quite unusual among other Touhou backgrounds.
As for spellcards, I enjoy dark, warm colours, although I can't think of a specific one I especially like at the moment.
Menus? MoF, DS and DDC are really pleasing.
-
For whatever reason I rarely pay much attention to backgrounds in Touhou, so I don't remember most of them all that well. My choice is anything in IN Stage 6A or 6B (including boss fights). Those backgrounds really hit a soft spot.
-
MoF Stage 3 for stages, Utsuho's space-trefoil background for Spell Cards.
-
IN Stage 6B - Kaguya's non-spellcard attacks, that Moon is like "look at me, I am so glamorous!"
-
PCB Stage 6.
Both the BGM and background complement each other. Yuyuko's presence in the end adds more to the value.
-
MoF Stage 4 really impressed me when I first saw it. Yuuka's PoFV stage as well.
GIANT MOKOU FACE is pretty funny
-
MoF's ones are good as well as DDC's ones.
Let me think....DDC Stage 4, Stage 5 and MoF Stage 4.
-
I just want to say UFO stage 6.
Everything about it is so grand, beautiful and kind of nostalgic.
-
MoF Stage 4 and SA Stage 3.
-
I like PCB stage 6, MOF 4, and DDC 5.
If fighting games count, Tenshi's last spell background in SWR is cool too
-
MoF stage 4. Also the menu background (not the title screen), Minoriko's spells, stage 2, stage 3, Aya's nonspells, stage 5 and Kanako's nonspells.
I don't know any backgrounds from any other games.
-
EoSD stage 6 is awesome, how the moon gets bigger and more red as the fight goes on. There's also PCB stage 6, IN stage 3, UFO stage 5, and Ten Desires stage 1. Also, if it counts, The Last Comer stage 4 is beautiful.
-
Perfect Cherry Blossom has some wicked spellcard BGs.
-
Mountain of Faith has beautiful stage backgrounds, but stage 3 of it is my favorite. The fall colors work so well together,
and the water and rocks are just beautiful!
-
I don't like Touhou backgrounds too much. At least the stage backdrops I think are rather lazily done most of the time, though occasionally they look decent.
I personally prefer Arcade shmup backgrounds more as they actually look like real areas and in things like Cave games they are quite detailed. In Touhou though, I think I'll have to go with Mountain of Faith because I think Stage 3 is pretty. Rest of the stages have decently pretty backgrounds to them as well.
Dunno what it is really but there's just something to MoF's backgrounds that makes them stand out compared to the rest of the series.
-
I'll say MS and LLS Extra stages.
-
Stage: UFO 4, IN/DDC final.
Spell: Three fairies.
I like my backgrounds with low brightness and details so that they don't blend into a clusterfuck with the foreground elements, but not so low so that I still have something to look at on the off chance I actually take my eyes off the collidable objects and the score.

I think MoF more than the other games creates a living ambiance that actually gives me a feeling of going up a mountain during harvest.
-
Stage 6 of IN ,4 of SA and the bamboo forest
-
Is it alright if I ask a new question, since its been three days? If not, just ignore this
What is your favorite double/triple team boss fight?
I'm terrible at fighting them, but I'd probably say the three fairies. Kokoro's final boss fight is cool, too.
-
I loved Kokoro's final fight especially when I can scream. "IT'S A REHASH ROYAL CHAOTIC CLAN DANCE!!!!" It's like a good kind of panic, except for when you have to deal with a few spellcards.
(However: I hate Seiga and Yoshika's fight "WALLS WALLS WALLS" everywhere.)
-
Extra midboss Benben and Recliner. Joururi world is actually so difficult it's unbelievable. Loads of fun, though, for sure.
-
The Prismrivers.
-
Four of a Kind, because Flandre. I also like cameo spellcards like the Shikigami Signs and Seiga/Futo card.
-
Eirin and Kaguya during "Hourai Elixir". Just because it's a masochistic kind of fun that pushes me to become better.
-
Yuki and Mai.
Just to be different, you know.
(It's kind of fun though, and I absolutely love Forbidden Magic.)
-
Sisters of Prism
-
The Tsukumo sisters in DDC Extra. I also find Joururi World a blast to play, and the rest of the fight is pretty solid.
Normally I would said the 3 Mischievous Fairies for this question, but you know, leader!Luna. >.<
-
Seiga and
Meat Shield Yoshika
-
Three Fairies by far, then prismrivers
-
Three Fairies, even though I've only played GFW several times and was really bad at it
-
Three Fairies of course, the Lily/Daiyousei EX midboss is also cool, same with Benben/Recliner
-
There is nothing cooler than having to face 3 of the most important (religious) figures of Gensokyo in the same time.
-
Three Fairies. Do you even go fast?
-
Duh, Three Fairies of course. There's literally not a shadow of contest, All other dual/triple fights just plain suck in comparison.
Prismrivers aren't bad though. Dunno why my mind always think they suck until I sit down and think about them ::)
-
Oh, I got a question.
What is your favorite jewel case cover? Mine is probably IN's. It's very serious and "cool" looking. I like the bright, soft color scheme of UFO's cover too.
-
DDC and TD's.
So much fun I've had with those at the firing range. :D
-
Perfect Cherry Blossom's
-
This (http://tasofro.net/touhou135/img/tfm06.jpg) and this (http://pds2.exblog.jp/pds/1/200808/06/42/e0088742_10464112.jpg)
-
MoF: The colors of Fall used in the cover look pretty impressive to me.
DDC: My dictionary lacks the fancy words needed to describe my thought about it in detail. Let's just go with "It simply looks beautiful".
and...
This (http://tasofro.net/touhou135/img/tfm06.jpg)
Yes.
-
PCB has a beautiful case in my opinion.
I also seriously adore EoSD's.
-
UFO's, but I may be biased because I like the game alot in general.
-
Biased: SA (because it's SA) I also like the dark colors
Unbiased - Pretty fond of DDC. PCB is pretty cool as well and stands out from the rest.
-
Which game has your favorite selection of shot types?
I'm not sure if that's the best way to phrase it, but I'm referring to the entire range of shot types in a game-- don't pick a game just because you really like one shot type from it.
---
I'd go with either SA or DDC. While they're certainly not balanced, both games have some nice variety to their shot types, including some rather weird (and therefore memorable) abilities. For example, SA has ReimuA's gapping (and graze bomb), ReimuC's super-speed (though the aiming and bomb power are more relevant), MarisaA's bomb system and reversed focus/unfocus, and MarisaB's five-element selection; DDC has ReimuA's crazy gohei, SakuyaA's time slow, MarisaB's constant power items, and SakuyaB the weak high-scoring character. They also have rather distinct bombs that mostly have their own uses, particularly for scoring.
-
IN. It has got shot-types for people who ship Reimu x Yukari, Marisa x Alice, Remilia x Sakuya and Yuyuko x Youmu.
Simply superior to the other games.
-
SA is what I would call a harem Touhou.
-
Honestly...probably Ten Desires. As much as I like the shots in DDC, it's really only ReimuA, ReimuB (on principle) and SakuyaA. That's only 50%, since I don't really like either Marisa or SakuyaB. Maaaaaaybe half points for Marisa, but it's still not that great of a shot for me.
Now, Ten Desires has Reimu (on principle, I like the homing+needles), Marisa (lasers don't pierce but that bomb-for-trance power), Sanae (...I got nothing) and Youmu, who gets extra bonus points for having a melee weapon in a danmaku game. Overall probably 2/3 enjoyment ratio or something when DDC is 3/5ish. IN would be better if Sakuya and Alice and Reimu weren't all awful.
-
I like DDC because it has several unique shot types, but I think PCB has the best shot types all around. I can play the game with any of the characters and still feel like it's a challenge without being crazy hard. SA comes in a close second, but Aya and Patchouli kind of ruin it for me.
-
Fairy Wars
-
You'll never guess what my choice is.
Really the more I play the game the more I discover new sides to the characters. Each one changes the atmosphere in a unique way. It's very exciting.
PoFV takes a somewhat distant second. I'd probably appreciate IN a lot too if had more experience with it.
-
I think PoDD has the most satisfying cast of playables by a significant margin. UFO is also very satisfying, and SA I guess even though I only play ReimuA
-
UFO. The shot types in general seem quite usable and good. I'm not really too familiar with all of the shot types in the games, though.
-
UFO. The only character I don't like messing with in that game is Marisa and that's because I'm a cranky old man who finds the smallest little flaws to be deal breaking. Nothing makes you forget that you're playing with DFCs more than blue options that hides bullets. A stronger player who doesn't have his mind 80% occupied with other things may not have this problem so the UFO cast is really quite strong.
UFO also has a homing Reimu that doesn't suck and those are rare.
Fairy Wars
SA is what I would call a harem Touhou.
-
Probably PCB ; I enjoy playing nearly all of the shottypes (except SakuyaB).
DDC shot selection isn't bad actually, it's probably the only positive aspect of the game.
-
In general, probably PoDD.
For the classic type of bullet hells, I felt like TD had well designed shottypes.
Honorable mention: SoEW, just for giving Reimu an armada.
-
UFO. It has all what I asked for the Wind Priestess and the Shrine Maiden.
PCB is worth a special mention for being the only game that I'm bothered to clear every character's shot type.
-
PCB. Two different bombs per shottype FTW. You always have both a screen cleaner and a damage dealer, so every situation is covered if you need help. Also, all shottypes are good enough, none of them have more trouble than others, and focused/unfocused differences are nicely balanced. Oh, and it has my favourite shottype too -
helicopter-style SakuyaB.
-
SA Extra. It's Moriya Shrine again, but if feels different from MoF Extra. Probably the musics making the feel tenser or something. Or maybe IN Stage 5, because I like how it feels like you're randomly moving around while fighting Reisen.
shit answered the wrong question
I'd say IN. Diversity ftw.
-
I like IN and SA, mainly because of how many different characters there are, which makes for more unique shots IMO. I'd say SA if I had to choose.
-
DDC.
Yeah, it has shit balance, but I don't give a fuck, those bombs feel so lovely and rewarding to use. :3
-
SA
I enjoy playing with all of them almost equally, each one feels different, having unique features like changing elements, borders and a bigger cast then most games is neat too
-
IN
-
As much as I happen to dislike the game, I choose UFO.
You can't go wrong with needle Reimu (and Wild Exorcism Dance is the best Reimu bomb ever), and the homing Reimu is actually good (the only other one I can think of is MoF's).
We had the last of piercing Lasers Marisa, and even if it was completely awful, the "All-range" Marisa was a neat idea.
Finally, even with Froggy nukes being better in every way than Snakes, both Sanae shots were really solid, and all in all Sanae was a nice addition to the playable characters, also it made me stop thinking of her as "Luigi-Reimu" :V
-
Probably PCB. Simple but effective. It would be Subterranean Animism since it has MarisaPatchy and MarisaAlice, who may be tied for my all-time favorites, but the duds drag down the average.
-
SA and IN
-
DDC. I really enjoy Marisa the Pyromaniac, Reimu's homing-homing, and Sakuya's time-hax, although DDC's TD Reimu's (ReimuB) focused shot feels too unfocused....
-
Really like UFO's. Other than Marisa B, I like all the shots.
DDC is good too just in terms of intrigue with the whole weapon/no weapon thing.
-
What is your favorite fighting game remake of a theme?
True Administrator probably wins for me. I like SWR's Evening Star and Till When and IaMP's Luna Dial and Septette too, off the top of my head.
Also Fantasy Heaven's Love Consultation
-
Many themes are great IMO, but, as remixes, I really like IaMP Youmu's night theme and SWR Reisen's theme. They really manage to put emphasis on good parts.
-
Dichromatic Lotus Butterfly (UNL).
With Vessel of Stars (SWR) and Colorful Path (HM) getting in second and third place, if there were any.
Yay for Reimu's themes.
-
Futatsuiwa from Gensokyo.
I mean, how can that be argued against? (inb4 someone criticises this opinion seriously)
-
SWR Night Falls because I burst out laughing the first time I heard it
-
Futatsuiwa from Gensokyo.
Honourable mention to Okuu's theme in UNL
-
Hartmann's Youkai Girl
-
Futatsuiwa from Gensokyo.
Yes.
Hartmann's Youkai Girl and Legend of the Great Gods for Honorable Mentions.
-
Ancient Temple. HM to Lunatic Full Moon and Septette. Way more energy than the originals.
-
Hartmann's Youkai Girl (HM).
That guitar.
-
Futatsuiwa from Gensokyo.
-
Futasuiwa from Gensokyo. It just...wins.
SWR Invisible Full Moon and Doll Maker of Bucresti for honorable mentions.
-
If it counts, SWR Broken Moon is really a great rendition of the IaMP theme (although Missing Power is still better :ohdear:). If it doesn't, Soku's Grimoire of Alice is also pretty neat. I don't usually pay much attention to fighting game remixes of tracks, though (I haven't even heard of most of the IaMP and SWR ones), because I largely prefer ZUN's style to Uni's.
Oh, The Witches' Ball from IaMP is quite awesome, too. I can get into remixes of themes I haven't heard before easier than into remixes of themes I have.
-
Reisen's theme and Patchouli's theme from SWR.
-
Hands down the rock remix of Casket of Star from...I want to say Scarlet Weather Rhapsody. Marisa was meant to rock. Runner-up is Futatsuiwa from Gensokyo.
I like SWR's Evening Star and Till When and IaMP's Luna Dial and Septette too, off the top of my head.
...Somebody out there *likes* the accordions in Evening Star? It's ear-bleeding to me just to listen, although hilarious.
-
What is your favorite staff roll background image?
-
That's something I don't really pay much attention... I'd say PCB's, if only because it was the first one I actually saw :y
The music synching effect thing with MoF's is cool, though.
-
Either EoSD or PCB, but in the end I'll decide EoSD, since it reminds me of the atmosphere in some older anime movies.
-
IN. PCB is close second. I can't even remember what the rest of the images look like.
-
IN, especially given how important the moon is to the story. A relatively close second would be PoFV.
-
I'm not good enough to see those too often so I don't know.
-
I honestly don't remember what any of them except UFO looks like. So UFO I guess?(http://i838.photobucket.com/albums/zz304/dummy2205/nervous.gif)
-
The staff roll background (and the staff roll theme is great too imo) of Scarlet Weather Rhapsody (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFxbuguMZ5k) is just amazing.
-
Seconding Scarlet Weather Rhapsody.
-
Ten Desires' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ju1MBJ6WzlQ). It's simply lovely.
