What is Cookie Clicker?
Cookie Clicker is a game where you click a big cookie in order to bake cookies; and then you use your cookies to buy things to help make EVEN MORE COOKIES, from cursors to click the cookie for you to a nice grandma to bake more cookies, to things like a space shipment of cookies from the cookie planet. Originally the dev made it in a really small amount of time as a joke, but it became surprisingly popular (His response being "what is wrong with you people") so he started to fix it up and start work on the new, modern version of Cookie Clicker that we have now. (Which is still being updated, as well!)
I played that goddamn game so much that i mumbled about selling grandma into slavery. My mum heard it and i'm not allowed to be in the same room as grandma alone.
In addition to clicking cookies and buying things to make more for you, the new version of Cookie Clicker also has upgrades to buy for your buildings, unlockable achievements which grant you Milk (which eventually will also aid in your endeavor for more cookies), and many newsflashes of current events as you develop your cookie manufacturing empire. Future updates will include things like Dungeons, which are supposed to completely change how the game is played after unlocking them, more upgrades, and even more buildings; along with some other significant but less cookie related occurrences, ontop of the unmentioned ones already present in the current version.

Yep! It still becomes absolutely terrible after awhile anyway (I'm at 600m+ CpS) but it keeps being useful a helluva lot longer then it did before, which is cool.
Golden cookies are pretty much your entire source of cookies at endgame points, by the way. You save up enough cookies to hit the cap on the "Instantly gain 10% of your bank in cookies" and they become incredibly powerful. Cap is as much cookies as you make in 30 minutes passively, by the way.

Honestly at the risk of alienation I would say some social media MMOs are a more useful way to spend silly amounts of time.

Well, after awhile you can mostly just idle and let cookies build up and poke some stuff once every now and then, so it's not very demanding on your actual time. (Although then golden cookies are pretty strong later, but...)
Howeverrrr, dungeons are probably going to do a lot to make it more like an actual game, instead of just cookie collection. Honestly though I have no idea how they're going to work.
Now to start building that Research Facility Bingo Center.

red cookies are alternatively called "wrath cookies"
There's a 50%+ chance to get a negative effect: Clot halves your cookie production and Ruin is the opposite of Lucky - you lose cookies instead of gain them. However red cookies allow you get Elder frenzy, a far better version of the golden cookie's frenzy (x666 production for 6 seconds)

I have two files on this game. I've practically burnt out on the legit file (over 200M CpS, refusing to let the grandmas begin their wrath), so I'm now messing about on my cheated file (101 quintillion cookies). Did you know there are debug upgrades still in the game, not to mention the achievement for hacking in cookies...
Also, I just got a cookie chain! It's pretty crap though (starts with +6, maxes out at +6,666,666,666, or about 1.1 seconds of production with frenzy on my cheated file).
In case you're wondering about wrath cookies, it's about 85% bad stuff, 7.5% elder frenzy and 7.5% chain cookie. Definitely not value for clicking.

Edit: only four three golden cookies away from the final lucky upgrade. It took me 3 days to get 30 of them, but it finally occurred to me it would be easier to catch them if I shrunk the window and put it on the other screen - got about 40 in two hours. Why am I getting excited by this?

The reduction in golden cookie appearance will screw up production at higher levels. They're your main source of cookies later on. So stopping the grandmapocalypse is a benefit if you're sitting there clicking golden cookies, when afk you want if to continue.

Cookie wiki says it takes sometihng in the order of 150 days to get 100 of those. And I think their price'll go up on later updates, considering the creator of the game wants to add more buildings.

After you get the golden cookie upgrades, almost all of your cookies will come from Golden Cookies.
After you get the first two golden cookie upgrades, if not before, you'll want to save up enough in your bank for the "Lucky!" effect (which grants 10% of your bank) to max out (When your bank is holding at least 5 hours worth of passive cookie generation). At that point clicking golden cookies now and then will dwarf your passive cookie production entirely; you'll have a golden cookie every 2~3 minutes and the Lucky! bonus will grant you a half hour's worth of cookie production immediately.
Then, when you get the THIRD golden cookie upgrade, Get Lucky, you'll be able to overlap Frenzy and Lucky! to get a Lucky! that's seven times as strong (plus your frenzies will give twice as much) so Get Lucky is by far worth the 77t cost and will pay itself off in no time, I get like 11t per frenzied Lucky
In this update he changed the golden cookie algorithm to drastically lower the chances of getting the same effect twice in a row, so getting a Frenzied Lucky is a lot more common then you might think.
I'm gonna hit 1 billion CpS tonight, probably. B)

No really, here's a challenge for those people who don't mind cheating- fastest time to 1 quadrillion cookies but:
* From a hard reset (feel free to prepare a save before hand, though)
* No hacking in cookies AT ALL (including using RuinTheFun())
* Only ONE command is allowed in the Scratchpad/JS console/whatever.

...Huh, I seem to be getting 200 billion less cookies from golden cookies. Before, the Lucky! bonus was around 1.1 trillion with a cps of 760m/s and over 10-11 trillion cookies. Now, it's 9XX billion.

And yeah Kingault, I think he nerfed it slightly. It's still crazy good, though. Also yeah I surpassed 1b CpS last night at midnight :D
And, there's now a chain of like 7 more general cookie income upgrades though. They're pretty strong, though, so it works out. You definitely want to get Get Lucky before any of them, though, it's vastly superior.

I thought that sounded weird, and then I got a negative exponent in the a calculator, so I checked the wiki. The wiki also said the easiest way to see is "Square root of amount of trillions of cookies you've made". So, if you've made 1.6 quadrillion cookies (1,600,000,000,000,000) then you do the square root of 1,600, which is 40.
Since it is based of total Cookies baked, you can sell all your buildings, buy more with the refunded cookies and continue this process until you are bankrupt for additional chips.
Ooooooo. The only issue with this is the "reset with 1 quadrillion cookies" shadow achievement, which does indeed require a quadrillion cookies to actually be in your bank >_>; At this point making that many wouldn't take too long, but it's still a lot. I've only made almost 3 quadrillion so far; granted, literally like 5 days ago I had half that. Get Lucky makes a massive difference. Especially when I have a day off work.
Almost 1.4b CpS, bought all the new upgrades again. No I don't obsessively monitor the game; I actually don't pay it much attention at all. It's like a 2x2 inch window at the top right of my monitor most of the time, and I shrunk my browser window to have a little slice at the right instead of being fullscreen. I click a golden cookie whenever I notice one in the corner of my eye, and bam.

You want to have about 10t left so that you're not hurting your ability to get good Golden Cookie boosts; but otherwise, yes, it is ridiculously worth it.
They also buffed Click Frenzies, by the by, so do remember to actually click the cookie as much as you can if you get one. I can get like 50t off a Click Frenzy.

Do not let your cookies drop below a trillion as it stops you getting the full chains.
Causality is the more valuable (well over half your cps is from time machines), and advancing the grandmapocolypse will hurt you (due to more red cookies).

Not gonna count on cookie chains, since the 3 times I've gotten them, I've only gotten the guaranteed 5 cookies out of them. 10% chance of not getting the next cookie? Yeah, no, unless I'm to believe I've really had a 1/1000 event happen to me.

Orteil doesn't know what a geometric progression is. (He's really following an arithmetic progression i.e. the nth heavenly chip requires n trillion extra baked).

When they gave 5%, it was using square numbers, but now that it's 2% it uses triangular numbers.

Can't say when it'd be good to reset, but as for the bonus, you gain "Heavenly Chips" based on your total cookie baked which act as +2% CPS multipliers. I believe you get them at 1 tril, 2 tril, 4 tril, etc, but I'm not sure since I haven't looked too much at it. Trying to get my (used to be) last two achievements, though now I might very well continue just because there's more to do.

For Resetti/Recette, the game looks at cookies baked all time. One trillion cookies will get you one chip. It goes up by triangular numbers: 3 trillion, 6 trillion, 10 trillion, 15 trillion et cetera. Each chip adds 2% to your base multiplier, like the cookie flavors, and then gets multiplied by kittens and golden cookie effects. There are four milky achievements for resetting, and you can get all four by resetting with a quadrillion cookies.

Man, the 100th Antimatter Condenser will be around 4 quadrillion cookies; but, I made 15q today I suppose, and this morning I had maybe a fourth the CpS I do now, so I guess it'll probably only take a day or two to get there; I'm already at 91, so... heh, then it's a matter of deciding when it's time to reset.

Kittens in general you really want to prioritize, getting Kitten Overseers (after Engineers) literally multiplies your cps by about 2.1.

It was longer than that because the cookie only gives you 13 and the first cursor costs 15. But I had just reset, and with the screen shrunk you can do other things while you wait.

The Grandmapocalypse causes red cookies ("wrath cookies" as labelled in the source) to spawn instead of golden ones, which have two negative effects (Clot and Ruin), replace Frenzy with Elder Frenzy (x666 for 6/12 seconds) and make cookie chains spawn more often. When the grandmatriarchs are awoken, 33~% chance to spawn red cookies, when they are displeased, 66~% to spawn, and when they are angered, 100% to spawn (you won't get golden cookies anymore)
They are alright to have at low cps/bank, but it becomes far more profitable to spam Elder Pledges instead. The Grandmapocalypse as it stands is simply a byproduct of the Science Research, which is fitting thematically, but not as debilitating as it perhaps can actually be.

Grandmapocalypse boosted your CPS a decent chunk before Antimatter condensers came out, because of how much of a boost Grandmas get from it, and also because Red Cookies were worthwhile for a little bit at that point.
Anti-Cs are so good it just kind of dwarfs out the benefit of improved grandmas (Even though they become more then half as good as time machines) and they also make your CPS go higher then the point where Red Cookies would be good by the time you can reach them. So, it's a bit outdated. But, there's going to be updates to the grandmapocalypse around halloween, and it's also supposed to influence dungeons eventually, maybe.

I go through it every time just because there's really not much reason not to. Okay, I have some red cookies instead of golden ones for like, 2 hours? Not a big issue. The cost is pretty trivial before long. MORE COOKIES IS STILL MORE COOKIES

Heavenly chips are still an incredible boon this time around: 3 hours and a bit since I reset, and I'm back to 75/103 upgrades... making 5 billion cookies per second.
I think going through the tech tree all the way is good to get the milk, but not sure how well it measures up on the second playthrough.
The more resets you do, the easier it gets to completely traverse the tech tree until it becomes negligible.

actually on that note I'm nearing 100 Antimatter Condensers. 22bil/sec cookie generation, I've got every upgrade unless there's some I'm just completely unaware of (Which apparently I have 99% of the game's upgrades on my list but I just double checked it and I have everything...?). Once I hit those last couple Antimatters I will just need to reset and bam 100% achievement collection.

Just after getting condenser #100, I got 7x CPS and then Clicking Frenzy while that was active and made about 650 trillion cookies in 25 seconds

I broke 12 quadrillion cookies and 300 billion cookies per second... in MarisaCookie. Also have 99 "BBA"'s (Yukari with the CC grandma face).
Meanwhile, checked out the beta 1.037: Neverclick is a regular achievement again? And we now have "Hardcore" (1B cookies, no upgrades) and "Speed baking" (1M cookies within 35/25/15min) as shadow achievements.

Looks like v1.0375 just went live. New upgrades (15 at least?), new achievements, Heavenly Chips remain at +2% CpS, different capping mechanics for cookie chains, new upgrade tiers (100 of a building)...
...and STILL no dungeons, ha!

I like the new Orange Juice tier for milk, too. It's much more visually pleasing then raspberry juice. Then again, this might just be because it's a change of pace, which is -always- good. Although... orange does go with the cookies much better then magenta >>
I like a lot of the new upgrade text, in other news, and I can't say no to my CPS being doubled from upgrades :D When dungeons come out I'll be able to reset for over 1k heavenly chips, woo~

Kitten overseers were nerfed, so now I'm producing 10% less cookies than I was on 1.03601. Luckily the new time machine upgrade mostly makes up for it. Mostly.
On the upside, 15-cookie chains! Now they're less useless in late game.

Update to the grandmapocalypse and official release of dungeons is any day now~ (Of course it could also be a week so don't hold your breath)
EDIT:New update! No dungeons/grandmapocalypse quuuuite yet, but we got some tweaks to how golden cookies and cookie chains work, and a few various minor changes you can see in the Updates tab on the game. Also, of course, more cookie income upgrades.
What we DID get that's been talked about, though, is the Prestige Revamp. The change is that now you must buy upgrades to unlock the power of your heavenly chips, 25% at a time. The shadow achievements Speed Baking and Hardcore have been reset for everyone to reflect their new (and originally intended) difficulty. HC no longer break earlygame, but still let you speed through most of it after awhile; the first upgrade is at 1,111,111 cookies and increases by 3 decimal places each, so it mostly just affects the achievements based around the first million, and stops you from getting 50 antimatter compressors in 30 minutes.
Several butthurt clickers ragequit because they have to make their first million cookies the normal way when they soft reset now :V (I peeked in the CC forum's thread for the update)
Edit again:He just made the heavenly upgrades obscenely cheaper... and the 5th tier building upgrades, for some reason, even though they already cost pretty much nothing by the time you unlock them? Since the cost of the heavenly upgrades was obscenely lowered a few minutes ago, it's probably not much of a big deal anymore.
You do still have to actually play normally for a (very) short amount of time, though, which I think is nice.
edit:Oh hey look another upda-and it's adding an 11 cookie upgrade that unlocks your Heavenly Chips you're really giving in here Orteil aren't you
However, this upgrade only gives you 5%, so it's not totally silly. But still. rofl :V

I agree with all but this. Speed Baking III is DIFFICULT. It requires a good golden cookie (Clicking Frenzy) to get and no HC upgrades enabled to get. I honestly don't see anything that makes it easy modo, only way harder. The good news is that it's now with the intended difficulty, but it requires tremendous luck though. The other Speed Baking achievements look very legit with good strategy though.
The update is not bad as the heavenly chips upgrades seem like a good way to prevent over-nerfing, than making it to be worthless without being in enormous number. Admittedly I really enjoyed the first minutes after my first reset, and to some people they were the drive to the game, so their quitting would be reasonable for them.
I heard about the nerf on Golden Cookie Chain, but I play mostly by idling so this hardly affects me. Although. it does seem odd that it encourages people to minimize their window, considering the reduced time frame. And seriously Cookie Chain was so weak why it looked too strong to Orteil
Also I only have 267 HC you guys are crazy but all players are somewhat insane to some extent anyway

Game breaking/ progress deleting bugs are not something to rub off with "get used to this", if orteil was a professional programmer and this bug occurred to... well... more than 1 person in a non-beta-alpha then he would and should be fired.

The thrill was having a big boost immediately and having fun blowing through all buildings as fast as you can with lots of HC.
Why is it difficult to understand that for many people, they worked for weeks or more for a huge HC boost because it's FUN to blow through the early game with your new superpowers. That first cursor getting 1, 2 or 5 cps and then the huge numbers you get for farms and up is a lot of fun for a lot of people.

You don't really need to pay any attention to the game after the first several hours of high-activity at the start where you're buying buildings and such regularly (and where clicking matters for a while).
You just shrink the window to a few-inches-large square and put it in a corner of your screen and click a golden cookie when you happen to notice one, leaving you completely free to go about your normal business!
Also I forgot speed baking requires no heavenly upgrades; it was easy to forget considering the first heavenly upgrade cost over a million cookies in the first place, originally.
Now that the heavenly upgrades are obtainable incredibly soon into the game, the complaints on not having HC bonuses the moment you start have probably died down. Buuuut this is ~*~the internet~*~ so it's certainly not gone `-` Too lazy to go check the cookie forums and see.

getting another frenzy or clicking frenzy instead of (un)lucky could've helped (660 cps) :(

the achievements are related to wrinkler busting. killing a wrinkler sometimes gives you rewards. they also wreck your CpS so you can't just afk anymore if you keep grandmapocalypse up.
the new upgrades are halloween cookies, you can get them as a chance from killing a wrinkler.

Actually, busting them gives you the cookies back and then a lot more as "interest", so it's actually a gigantic boost in production for when you aren't around to click golden cookies. I left it on overnight and gained over 10quadrillion per wrinkler in the morning (there's 10 at max, so over 100q) with my normal production around 840b cps.
I did the math, and while I'm not sure how interest might scale, each wrinkler gave me about 50% of my cps from overnight. They drain 50% when you have 10, but since I was getting it back from -each one-, that's a 450% increase. I'm not sure how it compares to clicking golden cookies when you -are- around, I haven't thought about it too hard.
But yeah, after they -drastically- boosted their appearance rate (and fixed the bugged achievements that weren't achieving) I figured it out :D Hooray~
Edit:I guess you can assume 10 wrigglers to be a x4.5 production increase, to compare to golden cookie's not-always-on x7 with occasional frenzied luckies. So it's better to click golden cookies... but you do have to actually be paying enough attention to be getting a decent amount of frenzied luckies or you're actually worse off. (Wrath cookies are hardly even worth factoring in, I got a max chain ONCE since the revamp and even one less then max isn't much- the rest of the effects practically balance eachother out)
Edit:WRINKLERS MEAN x4.5 EFFECTIVENESS BOOST TO ELDER FRENZY that is awesome.

Madoka Magica Clicker; requires Unity Web Player to play.
It is similar in concept to Cookie Clicker, but isn't a straight clone.
There are quests that can be accomplished, which are unlocked if you have a certain PpS (Puella per Second) total per character figurine from the main five girls. Completing quests will provide passive PpS bonuses, and grant you additional upgrades. Also, even though later characters/objects are more expensive, they aren't necessarily better than the last. For example, Madoka herself starts at a measly 0.01 PpS even though she costs 1B puella base, but each of her upgrades boosts her individual PpS by a large amount - after two upgrades, 0.01 becomes 10. Likewise, Momoe Nagisa
is incredibly efficient, and the Law of Cycles is Portal-level cheap, but is actually in between the Portal and Time Machine in terms of efficiency. Golden Cookies are replaced by Golden Gems, providing similar benefits. Silver Grief Seeds can be clicked too to initiate "Random Quests," which randomly pit a group of your girls against a random Witch. Decided (for whatever reason) to open it up again.
Turns out that when updating my browser it blew out all of my cookies
, so now I have nothing.
Not even sure I want to restart. I'm upset all of that work is gone, but at the same time pleased I never have to deal with it again.

With the addition of antimatter condensers and other things, it actually wouldn't take very long at all (and I mean within a day or two, slightly uncertain just because I'm not sure how long it takes without Heavenly Chips) to get back to that point.
...well, actually, 200 of the early things, I'm not sure. But they don't really matter as much as the late ones.
Although, being free isn't so bad either!

...I pretty much just have to pray for Madoka witchfights. I haven't done two of her quests yet because all the times I got her before I had far too few of her to beat any of the not-weak witches; which, of course, I wasn't getting. Apart from that, in uncompleted quests I've only got the ones that take an obscene number of all girls (read:obscene number of madoka because the others are comparatively dirt cheap)
I also have to pray for Madoka fights because redefeating witches gives you free girls that don't up the cost for buying more >_> I'm only at 147, but they cost about 314q, so I definitely have to rely on quests for most of them. They roughly double in cost per every 5, so what's attainable now won't stay that way for long... (the 200 quest or one of the upcoming madoka ones better have some godly buff)
Thank goodness the 130 girls quest gives you an item to increase the appearance of grief seeds. They're actually common now.
edit:Got a Madoka upgrade, got to do a Madoka quest as a result, then that upgrade lead me to the next quest's requirement, and so now I have 15trillion Puella Per Second, yesss. Although I realized there's still another madoka quest left. This is a good thing though. It means I have another 1.5x upgrade waiting for me to pretty much outright boost my pps by 1.5x again :V

Or not. Once you get BBA it's really fast going for a while. I went from trillions of cookies to 10^31 in minutes. (I decided to purchase 100 of everything below BBA and level them by 100 to get the trophies at this point, and most of those purchases get absorbed into the rounding error.)
Still, there's nine orders of magnitude to go, and I don't know when the rest of the stuff will unlock.

Yeah, I finally got a Madoka vs. Walpurgis (which -still- had only about 60% success chance) so with that plus the quest completion I'm up to 31t pps. I haven't gotten Vs. Kriemhild Gretchen on her (and a few others) so I could still nearly double, but that's all massive luckgarbage >_> Homura/Mami have 13/14, Sayaka/Kyouko have 12/14, and Madoka has 9/14.
153 Madokas at 632q price. Urgh. Why does the next 5-girl quest take 200?! D;

don't use the minigame for now, leave it for when you have enough spare money, because all I've seen it do is give 10%, 30%, 50% and 99% items for you to use on buildings (forgot if they also work on upgrades and/or character lvl ups). Work on buying better "buildings".
quick edit: you can also try the minigame if you manage to level up reimu, marisa and alice (forgot if the requirement was to level up, or to buy enough of them, or both), not sure if how far you're able to advance in the minigame is a requirement for unlocking new characters.

or something like that, the way it works is.. as soon as you buy one of it, your click multiplier will temporarily skyrocket, and return to normal just as quickly. It allows you to increase your cps for as high as you want it to be, provided your browser/pc can handle it
. My current cps on that game was something around +e230, which is why I stopped playing, my computer can't handle it without choking itself.
stopped playing cookie clicker for a while, because I had CC, Candy Box 2 and Madoka cookie open at the same time and the pc was being slow due to that. Beat candy box 2's hard mode after trying to farm 5m candies (so to try to buy the scythe and kill the bridge's troll without having to use a chocolate to make an enchanted glove.. only to learn, much later, that the scythe is only enabled after talking tothe dragon once. I went through the 90% magic/potion cooldown reduction route, against the Developer :p

Ended up having to turn off MadoMagi clicker because it was starting to drag firefox to a crawl >_> I don't know what the standard for multi-core processors is but regardless of what I do with priorities it won't give more then a certain amount of power to a single process tree thingy, and 18% cpu power spent on MadoMagi running was making any pages with images I don't have cached already (In other words, imgur) load irritatingly slow.
Also the part where my progress was slowing to a crawl, but, uh. It's kind of weird though, because I wasn't having this problem until... yesterday. Maybe another doubling in PpS actually means a significant increase in processor power? I'unno.

My PpS is currently at 173 trillion, still no big dive in performance yet.
Pressing F2+F9 simultaneously turns off effects. I don't know why it's those two keys but there you go.

In other news, just finished unlocking every character in MarisaClicker. Trawling through the dungeon gets really annoying after a while. Now to start hard mode.
Also, this game's version of Heavenly Chips is Heavenly KNN. You get one for every ten digits in your cookie count (so resetting with 10^34 cookies will give three, for example), and they boost by 20% each.

Aaaand on 1.30. Hmmm, so the button that says CPU in the description lets the game enter a... uh, half-functioning state? Well, it makes it more or less stop using CPU at least, so this is good to know. I doubt it lets grief seeds/golden gems appear, but easier then closing the game if I have further issues.

Found an amusing oddity with 1.3 of the Madomagi clicker. One of the upgrades, a blue background Grief Seed, could be bought several times without vanishing. You'd lose the puellas and gain the PpS boost, but it would be right there and buyable again and again... One of the blue background ones, costing 99,999,999,999,999, or 1 shy of 100 Trillion, and giving a +30% PpS.
I know it was the same one as my list of upgrades never moved when I bought it... unless several of those happen to pop up and replace the bought one, without being visually indicated on the list of bought upgrades.
I do not know exactly how many times I bought it, but it was at *least* 5 times.

The only thing you reset is your figures banked. You don't lose anything else by utilizing the Dark Orb.

It's actually slightly easier to harvest hundreds of chips at once with multiplayer, but I've only been able to get on one server and that was when someone was advertising it on Twitter using the #まどマギクリッカー hashtag.

Cookie Clicker got updated to version 2.0 recently. Heavenly Chips are now split into Prestige Levels, which grant CpS, and a currency spendable to purchase permanent buffs and abilities. There's a Cookie Dragon which is similar to the Santa mechanic. A Golden Switch, designed for idling.
More upgrades, achievements, milk flavors, news items, etc.
