So a friend and I are trying to play PoFV netplay, and we both have adonis, the problem is that there are no instructions for using it anywhere it seems, and most of the download links for any adonis instructions appear to have gone bad.
We're using hamachi, and I set up the server and port, but it says the port is on hold, and even if my friend tries to connect, nothing on my screen changes. Any help?
-
Can you ping each other using Hamachi internal network IPs?

Yes, I'm wondering if it's the way we're using adonis
I start up the server, then she starts up the client, then we both start up touhou 9 and try to connect to youkai vs youkai
-
Well, it suppose to be this way:
1) You (A) start Adonis as a server, set port (default one is fine) and after that server is waiting for connections.
2) The other person (B) start Adonis as a client, enter your Hamachi internal IP, port (default if you didn't change) and after that B tries to connect to A. If everything is fine, server (or client, I don't remember) asks about who is 1P and who is 2P, measures latency, asks A about preferred value and after that Adonis (for both players) starts the game automatically.
-
So we found out that it's supposed to be in compatability mode, and apparently my friend's adonise crashes automatically whenever she starts it up, even when not in compatability mode. It gives her a fail error immediately before it closes, but she can't read it fast enough.
-
Oh, yeah, I remember this issue. I used WXP and my friend used W7 64-bit so he had to set compatability mode to Windows Vista SP2 both for th09.exe (or th09e.exe if you use English one) and adonis.exe (adonise.exe) as it was suggested in wiki.
Your friend should try to run adonis using cmd. In that case she will be able to read.

Seems like it may be figured out, but anyway here's a pastebin with a bunch of info. http://pastebin.com/nTpD1kf8
And here's a link to adonis2 in case you end up needing it. http://www.mediafire.com/download/hm9dwvnb75gbbcm/adonis_rev5_test3.zip

Windows vista didn't stop the crashing, and I'm unsure how to use the cmd prompt to launch it.
May i ask how adonis 2 is used?

I'm unsure how to use the cmd prompt to launch it.
After you started cmd prompt, you need to change current directory to where PoFV is installed using "cd" command (for example, "cd c:\games\th09_pofv\", it's better if there are no spaces in the path; try to put the game into the root of drive C (or some other) for now) and run adonis using "adonis.exe" line (or "adonise.exe"). I hope it's clear (more or less).

It's the same as the first. It's just that if one fails, the other may work. I don't know why.
If the window closes as soon as it's opened, the usual cause (in my experience) is you don't have the game named correctly. adonise will only work if your have the .exe named "th09e.exe" and I'm pretty sure the game has to actually be patched to English as well, you can't just rename the japanese version.

So it worked for both of us, but then when PoFV was supposed to launch it crashed for me and didn't show up for her.

Use Adonis (1 or 2) with Windows NT compability mode. Should solve most issues.

didn't work

Ok...
1) What OS both of you use?
2) Do you use the same version (1.50a) of POFV (and which one, Japanese or English)?
You can try to PM me if you want to test connection.
-
I use windows 7 64bit, she uses windows 7 32bit
We both use adonise.exe, which launches th09e.exe. We both have it updated to 1.50a
The problem is that my th09e crashes when it's launched from adonise.
-
Not sure that it will give necessary information to solve it but anyway.
1) When you say "crash", does it show a window like "Error bla-bla-bla" or just close silently?
2) Did you try to change roles in establishing client/server?
3) Not sure but it's likely that the issue is with your OS (at least, I saw several times that it happens for 64 bit systems), on the other hand, in my case my friend with Windows 7 64bit had an issue that game window just didn't appear like it happens for your friend (but she uses 32bit one). So... Did you try all possible Compatibility Modes? Try to use each of them, using the same one at the same time, starting from the oldest or newest (doesn't matter, just check every one). Don't forget, you need to set it both for adonise and th09e.exe.
I'm not sure if you still want to play this game over network :)

1. It says that th09e.exe has stopped working
check online for solutions
close program
no wait for program to respond shows up.
2. After she sets up the server and I try to connect to it, it says (on my end) Application failed to play. Failed to Communicate.
3. Do you mean this for command prompt running it in different compatability modes, or adonise.exe/th09e.exe?
-
2) There is a possibility that specific port is blocked at OS (maybe firewall) or router level. If it's so then it's quite annoying to figure out.
3) No, only adonise.exe/th09e.exe

I think you should try to test UDP ports. It seems this application can help to do it - UDP Test Tool (http://udp-test-tool.software.informer.com/) (official website (http://www.simplecomtools.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=6&idcategory=5) doesn't allow me to download from them for some reason). Run application on one PC, bind port using IP in the list which is the same as your Hamachi IP (or just try each of them which are suggested), run this application on the other computer and try to send a message using your Hamachi IP and chosen port.
Not sure if it works well but give it a try.
