Sadly I can't afford it this year. On the bright side, this allows me more time to get more work done on the cosplays that I have been meaning to do. (I want to try and make a Madotsuki costume sometime.)

Yea sorry about that :blush:. I'm going again this year, not cosplaying but I'll be there. I still haven't really planned out my schedule so I'll have to figure that out tonight. The amount of touhou here is unbelievable.  Not only HDN, but Kinokuniya has an entire wall of touhou merch, and i've seen many posters/figures/etc elsewhere in the dealer and art rooms.  In addition I've seen more touhou cosplay than ever before.

Now for a story. The hotel booked us a room they weren't supposed to so our group of 4 got upgraded to 2 rooms on the top floor.  And we found out one bathroom was much more luxurious than the other. So now it's time to settle who gets it with a game of high stakes mahjong. To the gaming room we go!

Well, Friday was certainly exciting~! I was genuinely surprised at just how much great Touhou cosplay there was on just the first day alone (usually I have to wait until Saturday for most of that)~! So, now I wonder... What should I be expecting today with Friday being such a great day?! :o

I must say, that was quite a pleasant surprise. I had no idea of the photo shoot until this yesterday morning and the whole going out for dinner was an unknown to me as well. I gotta say that it was a really great experience and in a way I'm now kinda inspired to get off my butt and try and make some kind of costume for the next time after feeling silly for being the only person at my table with no costume.

I was eyeing that Yuyuko one for a while until I saw it go to $150. I just can't burn money that quickly...yet. I also love the Marisa/Alice/Cirno one. I think the last time I saw that it was at $100? As a side note, I still need to get better at looking for Touhou merc in the dealer's room. Totally bombed on the first day...although I made up for it a bit on the second.

I must reiterate this sentiment. It really was a lot of fun. Hopefully there's some level of touhou fandom presence at Anime USA (because dammit, Atlanta is too far away / too expensive).

Ah, one final thought. One person at my table mentioned a rumor of Anime Boston trying to get ZUN to attend...anyone have additional info on this?

Yeah, I just read the news myself. Still thinking it over in my head. The travel distance is negligible, 30 minutes up to Baltimore and about 45 minutes down to D.C. The cost of parking will suck, I will miss $10/$12 a day parking at Camden Yards. And honestly, I don't know anything about the neighborhood where the new place will be at. Hopefully it's safe (I'd really rather not ride on the metro if I can avoid it).

Only one part of DC is categorically unsafe and it isn't there (the southeast)

I got back a bit earlier, and I had a really great time for my first time at Otakon. Both of the concerts were fantastic, especially the Yoko Kanno one, it was totally worth going just for that. I only wish that I had made more of an effort to meet some of the other forum goers, I only ran into Kilga and Edible on the last day. :ohdear:
I took some pictures of Touhou and other cosplayers I saw through the weekend, I'll be sure to post them up soon. :V

Holy sweet mother of jeebus that Oreimo 2 season finale episodes screening.  So much drama and conflict... and then afterwards, we even actually got to see the anime!  Seriously though holy crap, I've never been to a world premiere like that, so that's gonna stick with my for a while.

Anyway, as for the parts of Otakon that any of you actually probably care about, vids are being uploaded as slow as ever because I'm a loser who still hasn't gone out and actually bought a proper suite of video editing software.  I'll alert you guys when I start hitting touhou relevant stuff (i.e. photoshoots).  Stay tuned!

Drove back to Chicago from Ota just in time for Monday work. Yay long hours of driving! (will do that again for AWA woohoo)

This con was a BLAST :3 had lots o' fun hanging out with you guys.
Otakon pictures going up pretty soon. Having to deal with a huge amount of pictures O_o

For those of you who were at the con, I was Momiji (with toy sword for babbiiiessss) for the Friday Photoshoot, Tenshi for the Saturday photoshoot, IN Yukari for the Otadinner, and Marisa (with cigarettes) for the Sunday photoshoot. I'll look forward to seeing you guys again at future cons!

Holy sweet mother of jeebus that Oreimo 2 season finale episodes screening.  So much drama and conflict... and then afterwards, we even actually got to see the anime!  Seriously though holy crap, I've never been to a world premiere like that, so that's gonna stick with my for a while.

Does it go with the LN ending and go for the Kirino/Wizard ending or did he actually screw with the LN readers and go with the Ruri route? I'm just really curious and no one is saying anything about it yet

Oh man. So many feels from Otakon. The good, the bad, and the ones that could potentially lead to a restraining order. Seriously, twice there was confusion about my sexual orientation. Thanks guys. Anyway,

Sure, there wasn't a Touhou Project panel this year, and the would-be audience members may have found that unfulfilling, but us panelists seemed to make splendid use of our extra time and that led to some things we could very well include in the panels-to-be.

Being 80's is super cool. I had maybe 6 or 7 people ask for pictures, which is rather limited considering what I'm used to, but everyone who recognized Shin from Hokuto no Ken was super enthusiastic about it. We got to gush about how much we enjoyed the series and joked about it.

JoJo's Posing School was worth every second despite nearly sweating through my costume throughout. It's a great participation panel and the people who couldn't grab floor space quickly enough sure got a good show anyway. The poses themselves can come in handy for any photoshoot. Also, my friends may gesture "I can see your underwear" as a greeting instead of "hello" now.

Bad Anime Bad is now entering its 12th or 13th season and is still incredible. Every second of the misery that spewed forth from Garzey's Wing was magical, especially when the plot, characters, setting, writing, scenario, dialogue, animation, editing, translation, and DUBBING - oh LORD the dub! - SOMEhow managed to make it through quality control.

I also found so many cool things in the dealers' room. Might be more on that later! :getdown:

The events at Saturday's dinner spoke for themselves and have already been spoken for. That and a strawberry smoothie, pork teriyaki, and red bean ice cream were sooooo good, but didn't compare to what was going on around it.

Very few things are quite as satisfying as spending con Sundays meeting up with the vast majority of the people you've spent your time with since Thursday and giving them a proper send-off, especially when you only have a brief weekend together with people you may not be fortunate enough to see again.

I had an amazing time at Otakon. I drank and hung out with dozens of internet friends. The Yoko Kanno concert unforgettable and wonderful and amazing. Shinichiro Watanabe is a chill cool dude and his new Space Dandy show looks excellent. T.M. Revolution concert was great fun. One of the best Otakons ever and I've been going for 9 years now.

My con experience included:

- Getting rained on Thursday evening (thanks Edible for lending the umbrella <3)
- Walking, lines and sweat.
- Maker's Mark and then Maker's Mark in an etched flask. Remember, classy drinking requires a pinky up.
- High stakes mahjong. I won the honor of sleeping on the inflatable rollaway bed.
- More walking, lines, and sweat.
- Home Made 家族, one of the most fun concerts I've been to. With amazing songs like Kimi ga Ita Kara (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xnv4uA8TTlQ). In my opinion, they were a better show than TMR. That collaboration at the end was pretty awesome though.
- Agonizing over and then deciding to buy 3 of these pillows (http://dribbble.com/shots/1193796-Zodiac-Pillows?list=users). They are nice couch pillows, firm but not too firm and really cute. The artist says her etsy will be online soon.
- Spying on and last minute bid shenanigans for Alice (http://kyokoprostudios.deviantart.com/art/Alice-Margatroid-363217180). It's an amazing piece and I don't even particularly like Alice. In the end, it went to the live auction.
- Contra, and Typing of the Dead.
- Chiaki Ishikawa, hearing Uninstall live was amazing.
- Yoko Kanno, those visual effects with the music were pretty fancy. And her rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. By the third line, everyone in the auditorium was standing and singing. When it ended, and I thought about how Yoko Kanno went out of her way to learn the piece for us and the feeling of unity in the crowd and what it all meant and a myriad of other thoughts, I couldn't help but shed tears. It was deeply moving.
- And all of that while hanging out with friends. Let's do this again.

Post-con exhaustion came roaring back in the form of falling asleep at 8 o'clock last night. At least I got a couple chores done, but man, con cleanup and recovery can be harsh. At least I can snuggle with my Samurai Pizza Cats English DVD box set to keep me warm, comfy, safe, content, etc. It is one of a select few items of this mortal coil capable of providing liberation from samsara.

I was cosplaying as Reimu for the friday night shoot at the indoor fountains. I'm working
on putting together an Otakon Vlog. The Touhou shoot shenanigans will be a part of it.
