Title: Ten Desires Error Log
Post by: Peachblossoms on August 02, 2013, 01:01:55 AM
Not sure if i put this in the right place, if so please tell me cos im still a nub  :ohdear:

Anyways iv'e been having trouble with running Ten desires, i keep getting an error message in Japanese, this happens when i try to run both English and Japanese versions can someone please translate or help me with the issue.

Iv'e patched the Japanese version with all patches.
It used to run properly with no bugs or anything but all of a sudden it's just killed itself on me!
Not sure if this issues common, and/or if theirs already a way to resolve it...  :wat:

- Do you have up-to-date DirectX Redist and videocard drivers?
- Try deleting th13.cfg at %appdata%ShanghaiAlice   h13
- Make sure th13.dat/th13e.dat isn't missing in TD's folder.

Sometimes if the game had a problem launching previously then even if the window is gone the game would still be running, open Task Manager and close it from there.

Thanks   :V

...So that means that the game is somehow being run twice right?

Yes. When you said you were "running both the english and japanese versions" I assumed you were actually running them simultaneously, since that would cause the problem, so oops ambiguous wording.

The solution is as Infinite says, open Task Manager with ctrl-shift-esc or otherwise, and kill the running process. Or y'know restart your computer or something.

Tried both, none seemed to work  whenever i end the task it just, well ends it. :ohdear:
I can run the trial version though...

Um, I mean, if you're only trying to run one instance of the game, and that error is appearing, it means there's another invisible process of the same game hanging around in the background. Without trying to start up the game or anything, you should be able to hit ctrl-shift-esc and see that there's already a TH13 process running. Ending that task should let you actually start the game. Actually shutting off and rebooting your computer (not as in hibernating it; actually shutting it down) should also end any of these invisible processes, allowing you to start when you boot back up.

If I'm misunderstanding something, could you post a screenshot of the task manager without trying to run the game (look for an already-existing th13 process), and a screenshot of the task manager when you're running the game and getting that error?

Whenever i restart my laptop and try to run it randomly it does this :{}
I can hear the music playing from the game but when i try to maximize it the same error log comes up, i checked the task manager and it only says one process of the game is open so i'm just like DaFAQ  :wat:

DirectX updated, just finished updating Redist and my videocard drivers are pretty top-notch so i would expect them to be able to run an arcade game  ::)
I delete the .cfg file everytime it gives me the error still :{}
all the important files are accounted for...

If maximizing the window causes the problem then don't do it. 10D supports multiple window sizes that are big enough to see the game clearly, use those.

There is something wrong with your Graphics card that is causing the game to crash on full-screen because maxing the window changes it to full screen, check your GPU settings.

(FYI Touhou is not an "Arcade" game, just sayin)

At any window the game doesn't run correctly. It doesn't open no matter what size i open it at. The game is active though because i can hear the intro music, But interesting to note the error log only pops up when i maximize the program, My graphics card is a Radeon Graphics card, which i think is like top of the line stuffz for graphic cards  :V

Vertical shooter. Also, STG or shmup (shoot 'em up). Arcade is a platform.

You're not telling much saying " my graphics card is a radeon and I think it's top notch" you should screen shot Dxdiag because it would help alot and if you're trying to run the english patch make sure the normal version works. If not then it is something wrong with your laptop doesn't matter how good the hardware is.

Like how the first Seihou game doesn't run on Vista - Win8 because they use something that the game doesn't want and it creates extreme lag.

Also how would u describe the type of game touhou games are in your opinion  :derp:

Calling Touhou an Arcade game assumes that it was once on an arcade machine which is not true. Touhou is a PC SGT, SHMUP, or Danmaku shooter.

I have a Radeon card, and it's just about complete junk. It all depends on WHICH card it is. (and more or less how old it is) What would be a good idea is posting specs with Speccy (http://www.piriform.com/speccy). (just whatever shows up on the main summary window, copy and paste it) This way, we can see exactly what hardware you have.

Like how the first Seihou game doesn't run on Vista - Win8 because they use something that the game doesn't want and it creates extreme lag.
That statement is inaccurate. Seihou is not dependent on your OS, but on your hardware. My computer here is proof. I have Windows 7 and the game runs flawlessly without any changes. (full 60 fps, 16-bit colors) It runs fine because my hardware is old and apparently supports it. I think I may have a fix for it though, been meaning to post it on the wiki page. Just figured it out last week. (can't test it though because the game runs fine here)

Thanks for the advice, i just kinda expected my graphics card to be good since the laptop cost like over a thousand dollars :s

I know it's the hardware, The game is known to have issues on XP- Win8 and the main fix for the lag only works on XP, Vista - Win8 need another fix which from my understanding has not been figured out yet. Though it would help to post your fix even if you're not sure if it works.

The point I was trying to make is that good hardware doesn't mean everything works.

I don't see why it wouldn't work for you. Your GPU is good, it's definitely something in the settings that needs to be changed. Though I can't test and see what it is because I don't have a ATI card. I can't really say what's the problem I've never heard of this happening in 10D. Un-install the game and then Re-install the game and see if it works.

You say your laptop costs over $1000? This sounds like a gaming laptop, I heard those things overheat pretty bad. Just a heads up if you bought it for Steam gaming.

Gaming laptop? :o the only games i play on it are the sims 3 and touhou XD what a waste
but the guy at the store like recommended this weird fan thing for it to help it cool down, but im never really on it long enough for it to overheat, unless i leave it on

Still a good idea to use the fan even for short term use. It will make the computer not die as fast in the long run and make it much happier.

As for those specs, I agree, it should run fine. The error it produces doesn't make sense for what you're describing either. I'd try reinstalling it too, just make sure to backup your score.dat and replays first. (though those are stored in AppData so maybe that isn't necessary :V)

It kinda feels like the game is producing a false error, which if that is the case, then it's really hard to track down the problem.

I made another user and put ten desires on to it and the game worked great...  :wat:
So i can play it, it's not my laptop that was causing the error i think it was cause i had a lot of copies of ten desires game folders because i was testing the game out heaps.   :3

That means there's something wrong with game's configuration for your main user. Just run custom.exe (custom_e.exe if your game is patched) and restore defaults. Or...

- Try deleting th13.cfg at %appdata%\ShanghaiAlice\th13

It certainly doesn't matter what folder you run the game from, by the way.
