Title: LAC 2013!
Post by: Raikaria on March 16, 2013, 08:32:31 PM
I apologize if this belongs in LettyJournal, I am not sure if it goes here, or there. I guessed here since there's threads about other stuff like Momocon and cosplay.

Anyway, this summer, I am going to my first gaming/anime convention, the London Anime Con (http://londonanimecon.com/index.php), and the London Metropolitan University.

I've never actually been to a convention before, so this is a new thing for me. I have little clue what it's going to be like. I also have no-one to go with, I'm purly going of my own accord.

Is anyone else going? Has anyone else been to the LAC before? Is anyone planning to go?

Nice to hear more UK people (and cons, for that matter) being mentioned in her...

London Anime Con

... Okay, I take back what I said. >>

Cons vary in size, numbers, and layouts; so getting an opinion on one differs between the name; as you'd expect. But the general thing to expect is :

1) Meeting new people. Happens whatever event you go to; no matter how many times you've been.
2) Getting together with fellow cosplayers/crossplayers. Doesn't matter how unknown your cosplay is, someone will ask for your picture. It's okay to say no if you don't feel comfortable with it; though it's also a nice way to start talking to other people. You can even introduce people to it if they haven't heard of it; though that depends on how you feel about talking to random people.
3) Attending events run by the staff, and fellow members. Fan-run panels are great to peer into; and may even give you ideas for a panel of your own. (If you're into that.) If not, just swing by whatever takes your fancy.
4) Gaming. There will always be a place to chill out, relax, and game, if you wish. Don't worry about tournaments if you don't want to take part; anyone can play whatever they want providing they don't cause those things to be delayed or interrupted.
5) Parties. Now, this differs on the con. Minami doesn't have parties, per se; but they don't need one in all fairness. The parties differ vastly too. For example, Kita had a mix of the usual things you'd hear in a normal club (which still baffles me), whilst Ame certainly had more of mix of anime and gaming tracks; along with some of the pop stuff, but that's to be expected I guess. If they aren't your thing, just hang out at the bar, at the karaoke, or just chill with friends at your room or something. (But don't have a party in your room; health and safety stuff.)

I'd mention a few more... but I can't use them for LAC. Sorry, me and AL do not get along; so you won't see me at any of their events. If you were after more cons to visit, I'd certainly point you to the final AyaCon. -nudgenudge. I'm doing a Touhou Panel there. nudgenudge- <3

But I hope you enjoy it , at the very least. And hey, maybe if you do decide to explore other cons, we'll try our best to meet up. (We as in, me & Puppy.)

I would have considered an August event, like Ayacon, but I already have plans for August. Maybe next year.

EDIT: Sees *Final*

Well dammit.
