Somehow I ended up with a three way tie. Couldn't find the old thread would like to compare to back then.

Here come the notes :
-The top 3 is exactly the same as my previous sort. (I always merge Classic Yuuka with Yuuka; otherwise, it's a Yuuka 1 & 2.) That's the first time that has ever happened.
-Okazaki leaping into 4th keeps the 'PC-98 can't break the Top 3 (Yuuka doesn't count because she is always 1st)' streak alive; after knocking Rikako down past Meria, who leaps into the Top 10 with that.
-Koishi is almost in the Top 10; was 18th last time. A lot has changed since cooling down from Doki Doki. If only that worked with Koakuma, who has dropped to 33rd now. o_O
-Letty drops out of the Top 10 for the first time in ages; and is the only one to leave the Top 10 from last time. Wasn't expecting that at all. Then again, Meria entering the Top 10 has something to do with that.
-Reisen (SSiB) takes last place instead of Evil Eye Sigma... meaning once again, last place has changed! No one ever stays there a second time... I wonder... :V
-Reimu ranked 97th, dropping 2 places from last time. Marisa, however, drops from 33rd to 50th! O_O I mean, Sanae was the only one who went up; from 106th to 76th!
-Gengetsu is one of the very rare non-movers outside of the Top 10; staying in 14th from last time. That girl never moves! ><

Out of the 70 characters I sifted through, there were 10 "tiers"; 01, 03, 11, 14, 15, 24, 35, 40, 44, 70.
I'm a bit surprised Cirno and Daiyousei were so low, at 40, and manually I'd be putting them at either 5th or 6th tier, and Star Sapphire would be down with the rest of her trio in the 9th had she not been lucky in her opponents. Mamizou and Miko should probably be 7th tiers, and Flandre and Meiling could comfortably fit into 5th tier.
Apart from those, close enough. The 3rd tiers in particular are liable to fluctuate up or down one rank sporadically.
Incidentally, 9 of the top 10 appear (with dialogue, that is) in the fighting games, and of those I consider all bar Yukari to have their most entertaining appearances in said games (excluding fan works).

Alright, since it decided to stop showing the results and I'm not going through the whole procedure again, here are my results from memory...
3-way tie between Utsuho, Yuyuko, and Koishi for 1st...
6-way tie for 4th between Satori, Sanae, Kanako, Remilia, Sakuya, and someone else...
In fact, the first ~30 entries were mostly ties. That sorter could use some work, since some undeserving characters got pretty far on the list.
Nue was all alone at rank 17. Lol.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Yuyu, Marisa, Yukari, 1-2-3 forever.
I'm surprised Remi went up and Koishi stayed put - thought they'd drop.
Keine and Yuuka push Lyrica and Aya out of the top ten, Lyrica going from 10 to 14, and Aya from 5 to 20.
But when it comes to drops, Reimu takes the cake, going from 40 to 79.
First PC-98 exclusive is 22 - Mima, followed right after by Kana. Yes, they somehow beat Yumemi (25). You may now chair me for not SCIENCEing hard enough.
Kosuzu, Kasen, and Kourin all ended up together from 35 to 37. Akyuu was 21, so she wins the book character-off handily.
Rinnosuke was the first man, of course, though Unzan wasn't far behind at 40.
And the bottom is full of Toyohime, Alice, and Tewi. Reisen was down here too last time, but she's moved up a few notches in my sight. Not THAT far though, she's still in the triple digits.

I'm particularly blaming the PC-98 dupes for that; they should just be excluded if you select both PC-98 and Windows games, because I had no idea what to do with them. in the end, they dragged down a lot of characters probably by 10-20 places (chiyuri, yumemi, to a lesser extent dai).
other notes:
- youmu/koishi is always kinda hard to decide, but I try to avoid ties, and youmu isn't as tragic I guess
- yukari sure has gone up after not paying attention to her forever
- lots of PC-98 love in this thread, but then again I have mai and ellen <33
- kana top ten what. maybe she deserves top 20, but I didn't know I liked her that much, haha
- should not have placed reimu over alice (alice is at least above suwako), but at least I retaliated by picking PC-98 alice over her respective reimu. probably should have gone for reimu/sanae/sakuya/marisa in a row instead, would have been kinda funny
- futo over yoshika, chen over the scarlets, shou over byakuren, kanako over ichirin over okuu, PC-98 dupes over merlin over actually deserving chars, god what the hell was I thinking hnnngh
- parsee/yuugi always used to be close, but now they're 20/34 huh

Indeed. I think I somehow placed Reimu above some other characters I liked and then decided that Reimu was pretty boring so about half my favorites got pushed down 10 spots or so.

I think you should be given a choice to merge them or not. I think some people might consider them to be different characters.

My top 5 is pretty consistent with how it was last time, though 5 was originally a tie between Shikieiki, Komachi and Mokou. Komachi just moved down a spot and Mokou somehow moved back to 18, leaving Eiki as the sole owner of 5. The rest of my top ten was pretty consistent, though, with Iku sneaking in and Sanae and Alice switching places. Though I had PC-98 Reimu at 10 in both polls, so I usually just count my 11 (in both cases, Byakuren) as 10 instead.

You can manually exclude them by unchecking all their individual games on the bottom. Although I guess that's more awkward than it needs to be.

I dunno how accurate this is. Hina shot up because of her weird god status and once that's sorted out she'll sink back. Also Suika dropped, her power is cool but kinda old. Top 4 havn't changed though. Renko should probably drop.

To me, it appears as if it just uses the minimal amount of matchups to settle on a full list. A win stays a win, so if you have Yukari vs. Ran and choose Yukari, nothing you do later on will ever put Ran above Yukari again (which is why it's very easy to screw up), unless you click "undo last choice" immediately. Ties also stay ties, so if you tie Yukari vs. Ran, both will stay tied all the time, and Ran will not even show up in subsequent matches (assuming she was on the right side in the match; the game will just think if you choose Yukari over this one character, then you will choose Ran over this character as well). It will eventually just sort through all kinds of matches until each character has her (or his) definite placement in the list.
also considering you have youki, layla and myouren at 25, I'll assume everything at 25 and below is just don't care/don't like? that's a ton of characters if that's the case then, man :V

That's rather annoying. I might just never use this thing ever again.

Yeah, it seems something weird went on there. On one hand Myouren and Layla have more appeal to me then Kisume or Parsee, for example, because information on Myouren and Layla are strongly tied to Byakuren(15) and the nature of ghosts. However, there are plenty of characters below 25 who are on my mind a lot more, like Reimu.
Also, while I tried not to make this a factor, I do have a thing for background characters.

I found when I switched up ties, the grouping pattern changed. So I do think it whittles groupings and pairings down fairly well. Voting X over Y, and having Y never rank higher than X again, is a bit simplistic but I don't think enough to throw off the overall accuracy. But yeah, it's not pinpoint accurate.

Byakuren is the first to make a push for the top in some time. Miko is the first to challenge for the toilet bowl spot in some time. There's still more than 100 places to go until that list reaches a point where I actively begin to even slightly dislike them. Overall, I'm very much a personality person, with a lot of top characters having traits I can love/admire/appreciate, with the bottom ones being just the opposite.

Used a back up browser and that seemed to work.
A lot of changes here. The main one being that Alice has shot up from 25 to 1. You can blame my dreams for that. Byakuren is also up from 8 all the way to 5. Nitori has also knocked quite a lot of characters down bringing her all the way from 18 to 5. you can also blame my dreams for that one. Probably the biggest change is that PC-98 Marisa has gone down from 11 to 85. That's still safely above modern Marisa though.
Reimu is still quite safe in last place and I don't know why elis and kikuri are that low.

The results have dramatically changed since I last did this. For starters... let's take a look at the top 40 because that's pretty much the characters I really seem to like.

OK, so as you could see, my top 3 is still the 3Y (Yukari, Yuyuko, Youmu), and Sanae has shot up from 8th to 3rd (tie with Youmu!)
Yuuka has dropped out of the top 8 list, which has been pretty constant for the past 2 or 3 years, getting replaced by Tenshi (who was also rising in ranks recently)
However, all in all my top 6 or 7 have been pretty solid

To me, Cirno is the best, always and forever. I got into Toho in 2009 thanks to KirbyM's "Hooray" depiction of Cirno, and my first fanart (http://www.houseofsixten.com/stealth/cirno/yukkuristreet.jpg) was one of the many "Strongest Day" pictures that year. Cirno is the ultimate success story. Despite being weak and unimportant to the overall story, Cirno obtained massive popularity, starred in many doujins, fanarts, and videos, landed a leading role, and became "the strongest". She gives hope to all those whose talent is lacking when compared to their peers and their idols.
Talent is overrated. You can overcome any obstacle by staying cool and having 900% Motivation.

1. Reisen Udongein Inaba (I'm a sucker for cuteness, plus her powers are pretty unique, and she's the reason I got into Touhou.)
2. Tewi Inaba (Prankster in the form of cuteness.)
3. Toyosatomimi no Miko (Bad ass that is all although if she worked on her attitude a bit...)
4. Kaguya Houraisan (I love her theme and personality, but I wish it was fleshed out more even though I read the Touhou books.)
5. Byakuren Hijiri (Her theme... truly paints a picture of her personality, although... I should delve more before saying my two cents.)
6. Eirin Yagokoro (Same opinion as Kaguya except for AWESOME DOCTOR)
7. Ichirin Kumoi (As much as she kicked my ass in TH 12 and is the bane of me... I like her theme, personality, and backstory. Can we lay off the brofists, please? *pichun*)
8. Reimu Hakurei (I love her TH 08 theme, but damn CALM THE *censor* (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEu8ezeSItw) with meeting people with danmaku.)
9. Koishi Komeiji (She's getting there to the top slowly, but surely. I love her design, her story is truly sad, and best surprise ever in TH 13.5.)

That I would agree with Mode and you on about Komachi. To me in my opinion, she seems to be a more fun/lazy person who is open about talks of death. Well that's my opinion.

I LOVE how I only used the "Tie" button something like 5 times and yet there is still a shitton of draws.

Quite a lot has changed. (except the first two places, of course)
Especially Hina, Nitori, Rumia, Alice and Komachi, while Nue and Satori have fallen.
I still think that the last sorting was somehow more accurate...

I got some time, and I can't be asked to wait for the rest of the DDC characters to show up on there. I'll probobly edit the post once they are, but for now, I'll just say where I think they would place.
PC-98 versions of characters will auto-lose, to prevent dupe.
Also I resolved to make more use of Tie, instead of forcing a choice where I may had before. This changes a few things in the long run, moving up characters who would otherwise have probobly been lower, or down characters who would be higher.
Tough ones:
Okku - Koishi. Went Koishi in the end.
Tenshi - Iku. Went Iku
Shizuhara - Minoriko. Went Shizuhara
Mokou - Aya. VERY tough. Eventually settled on Mokou.
Sakuya - Remilia. Went Remi.
Cirno - Meiling. Went Cirno
Maribel - Renko. Cosidering the two are a pair of characters.... I went Tie.
Unzan-Ichirin - Unzan has no real character except being shy and brofists.... but Ichirin is more or less his hitbox. Went Unzan
Ran- Suika. Actually tied these two.
Maribel - Toyohime. Went Maribel.
Eiki - Nitori, went for the Yama
Mokou-Mystia, Went Mystia
Followed immediately by Mokou-Keine, which was a tie
Remi-Alice. Very tough choice, but settled on Remi
Futo-Soga, actually went Soga
Mystia-Yuyuko. This is where Mystia lost out.
Patch-Alice - Tied
Daiyousei-Letty. A tie for lower ranks
Elly-Rika. Oh dear. Tied.
Kogasa-Yuuka. One serious and dangerous, the other silly and fun. Tied.
Nue-Eiki. Went Eiki afer thinking.
Sanae-Nue , Right afterwards, Sanae won this too.
Sakuya-Keine. Ugh. Tied.
Rika-Seiga. HNNNNNGK. Tied.
Mima-Hata. Both are moderately liked by me. Hard to decide, I had to go for the new girl on the block, who is more likly to grow on me more than Mima.
Akyu-Kurumi Low rank showdown, went Kurumi, which was them immediately followed by a long string of far higher rankers than Akyu.
Yuuka-Rumia. This is a very tough choice for me, and I know that besides maybe Shinki, these two are probobly fighting for 1st place. In the end, I overcame my headcanon, and went Yuuka.
Sanae-Patch, Sanae's been in a lot of scraps... and loses this one
Rin v Chen. Tied
Yuuka v Seiga; I forgot Seiga as a dark horse for first place. Still, Yuuka won, on the basis that Rumia would have beaten Seiga, and I gave Yuuka the Rumia-Yuuka showdown.
Seiga-Marisa - Another tough one, went Seiga.
Sakuya-Hata - On the same basis as before, Hata won this victory

On the basis of the Top 10, Rumia's actually slid down, with the Umbrella duo taking the top spot. Seiga, Rika and Elly all manage to share 4th, which is strange, since I don't recall Rika or Elly v Seiga. Marisa and Remilia have risen a fair bit.

Yukari has managed to fall completely out of the Top 15, probobly because I actually ranked Ran higher than her. [I prefer Ran as a character, Yukari to me kinda feels like Superman these days.]
On the other hand, quite a few have risen up a fair bit. The Watasuki Sisters, and Maribel/Renko have fallen too.
I would expect Raiko to be in this area.

Sakuya remains on the top because she is just too strong to be shaken. Byakuren surpassing both Yukari and Yuyuko in my list is what surprised me the most.
