Title: Wreck-It Ralph
Post by: Suikama on June 06, 2012, 11:36:10 PM
Among other familiar faces (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHDQHVkYq4g&feature=youtu.be)

All I can say is Oh man what :V

Capital.

I might actually go see this. The last two movies I saw in a theater were Quantum of Solace and Jonah Hex - I could stand to hit the place up again.

I just realized this is pretty much Kid Radd (http://www.bgreco.net/kidradd/): The Movie

Also you can play the actual game itself on the website (http://disney.go.com/wreck-it-ralph/)

Something good from  Disney?  :V
Haven't been to the theaters in years, I think I just might go see this.

Oh man why does that voice fit Clyde so well?

Any movie that gives me this much odd familiarity to it is worth a look. Very curious to see how it's executed. The licensed characters are a fantastic touch, though, regardless of how things may turn out.

Quantum of Solace was okay, but not a great Bond flick. My inner Ebert is just SEETHING with this twisted concoction of rage and pity regarding your film misfortune.

Yes it is.

I rather wonder how much in royalties Disney had to shell out for this movie.

As much as I want to be excited about this movie, I feel an omen coming from it.

Just feels like they might try to get sales from nostalgia goggles and not having to write a good story for the actual movie. nerdgasms wow! no substance!

This could be me with rose-colored glasses on though.

Well, something that may convice me to visit my local cinema after seven or so years. However, I find myself worried that Nerfnow's/Choja's prediction will come to pass. The Zangeif=badguy thing is already a bad sign. That said, I feel compelled to see this. For now. Cautious optimism, folks.

AERITH LIVES!

Plenty of nice little shout-outs scattered throughout the film. Also, the entire movie wasn't extraordinarily offensive to anyone who has picked up a controller, which is saying something. It was quite the opposite, in fact.
Go watch it.

Title: Re: Wreck-It Ralph
Post by: Gpop on November 05, 2012, 12:45:32 AM
This movie was great. It really was.

It kinda does feel like a video game version of Toy Story, but with 200% more cameos of everything that is not limited to video games
OOO-REEEE-OOOO
. It makes a lot of really clever jokes that my group and I really enjoyed. And the moral behind it is really nice too, can easily get real emotional.

All the DDR X2 and Street Fighter II references though. But I understand why Zangief is considered a "bad guy" in this movie. This was because there was only a SFII game in the arcade, and in that Zangief was considered a bad guy (because lolrussia cold war). Also, the plot twist with Turbo being the King I somehow didn't expect at all.

The one thing that I was really honestly worried was Vanellope being a really annoying brat, but that quickly changed so quickly and I fell in love with her character. Actually, I loved EVERY character in the movie. Every one was likeable in some way or another. But honestly, I can't imagine how much money they had to spend to get all the cameos, but then again it's Disney, they have all the money in the world :V

Oh, and Skrillex being in the party was just a huge surprise to everyone I mean wow, really?

But yeah, I REALLY recommend watching this movie, even if you aren't a 80's/90's kid. The whole thing is really great, 3D not needed.

Yeah, I saw this last week and loved it. I really liked how the movie wove in as many gaming cameos and references without much confusion.

Part of me is sad that the movie didn't feature the villains (or other characters) outside of the focus group setting. lolmovietrailerexpectations. Looking back, I realize that they would have just taken away from the main storyline anyway. Hell, Disney must have spent a ton of money securing even those small cameos. Regardless, this was still a very enjoyable movie with nice pacing and excellent use of references.

Konami code. 'nuff said.

From what I understand Nintendo wanted too much for the main mustached man himself for Disney's tastes, but I agree that having it too full of main video game characters would have watered it down to just lolnerdjokes so I'm fine with it,

That reminds me - has Bowser ever actually appeared in an arcade game? I don't follow the Mario fandom so religiously to know of any video game exploits outside of consoles.

I do remember the Super Mario Bros 3 pinball game but that hardly counts.

I heard there's no non-3D version of this.  Is this true?  If so I'll be horribly disappointed since I won't be able to watch it right, given I'm legally blind in my left eye and can't use 3D glasses properly or anything.

Yeah, like Triangles said, SMB 1 was in an arcade box for quite a while back in the 80's. It was a more difficult flavor of the game simply to try and milk as many quarters as it could from the kiddos. Punch Out did the same thing before it became Mike Tyson's Punch Out on the NES.

Also, Wreck-it Ralph was the first movie that I have seen in 3D. I was showing in both styles, so I figured "why not?" I'm not entirely sold on the technology quite yet. Perhaps there are other movies that make better use of the 3D gimmick. That, and trying to keep the Buddy Holly glasses in place on top of my eyeglasses was... interesting. :V

If the movie is good enough, you'll get used to it. I've watched a few movies in 3D and worn the glasses on top of my own and it doesn't bug me after a little while.

That said, I still have to convince my mom to go with my brother and I before I end up just going by myself, which would be a little bit sad.

I got permission to write a review of Wreck-It Ralph for our school paper! It's a pretty mediocre paper honestly, but I've been writing gaming articles for them in the hopes that if I write enough they'll start paying me.

Anyway, when that's done, I'll post it here. :3
Also it's entirely possible I'll see this again at some point as basically everyone in my group of friends seems interested in going again...

Mario Kart Arcade GP had him IIRC. Used to have that cabinet at the local arcade.

Sonic the Fighters. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikt5jZNeRJo)
Saw the actual arcade cabinet at Otakon, was quite the eye-opener.

There's also SegaSonic the Hedgehog, but that's hard to control thanks to trackball controller. Not to mention Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing.

Might watch the movie, even if it's by myself in the theatre. DVD/Blu-Ray version? I'd get it. :D

Just saw it along with my siblings. Was pretty fun. For a while I was trying to figure where I heard the Candy King's voice. When I figured it out I had an eureka-type moment where I was like
"IT'S THE ICE KING."
I was pretty loud, though  :derp:

EDIT: Okay, I gave wikipedia a visit and it turns out he's not Ice King, he's Wash from Firefly. I swear he sounds just like him though  :wat:
