So Graph posted about this earlier (http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,11183.0.html), but it could use a revival. While us writers for ESR grind our way through the bulk of our work, Graph has taken his old webcomic and turned it into something much much more impressive.

This is Graph's project mostly, and so it's incredible visually. In addition to the artwork being top notch there's a great deal more animation and visual effects then Eastern Starlight Romance has. The pictures above can't really show how impressive the mech battles look.
However while Graph's almost got the visuals done, we're still short on music. And music really improves the experience of a scene. We've had tentative offers so far, but no one's committed a full song yet. Which is unfortunate because this project is almost complete, and it's going to shine. I think the project will be greatly improved by having a constructed soundtrack instead of grabbing generic works, and I think it will be a great way for a musician to get their work out to an even wider audience.
Some details from the original recruitment thread:
Bearing in mind that this is not going to be a commercial product, I'm willing to pay a small commission for the work; something like 20 to 35 US dollars per song, depending on the length. Naturally, my standards will be higher if you take this one for commission.
Although our group's previous project had a soundtrack almost entirely made of arrangements (source being the Touhou Project shooting games), you can do all original compositions for this one if you want. As for what kind of pieces I want, I'm looking for something you might hear in a mecha anime, the rare mecha VN (like Muvluv Alternative) or Super Robot Wars. I'm leaving the overall music genre up to the composer; Rock, Orchestra, Techno, anything that can take on a "military" edge. It's probably fine so long as it doesn't sound overtly 80's like Mazinger.
If you think you can get a full set of songs, or even just on song in, PM me or Graph or hunt me down on IRC.

Okay, let me give an update on the situation here.
I think I'll have the art side of things for the first Chapter of the Touhou Mecha VN ready sometime mid-March. It's probably not a good time of year to find musicians with spare time, so I've actually decided to use some CC (Creative Commons) music from jamendo.com, at least for the first Chapter release. We'll see if we're able to replace it after that.
I'm hoping this'll accomplish two things: First, people will see that this project is indeed getting done and that it's worth working on. Second, people get the chance to see the context in which the music is used and and general ballpark on the desired genre from what I pick out as placeholders.
CC music isn't low-quality stuff by any means-- rather the opposite. This means the standards for the soundtrack are going to be higher now; it's going to be a balance between getting a good soundtrack, and getting something we can call our own. Other than coming close to the quality of the CC tracks, factors that'll help to get in are:
1. Landing in the genre range. Currently the more emotional pieces use synth orchestra with some rock instruments thrown in. FlameZero's piece is going to be in there, and pretty much the sole hard rock representative so far. (There's one battle scene so far, so there's room for more...) There's a darker mission-sounding track with a slow pulsing bass in there, and for normal conversation there's... soft rock? Lounge even? Don't know how to classify some of them.
2. Touhou Project arranges like in ESR.
3. Something like a "main theme" for the game, like a recurring melody if you decide to compose several tracks (or even the whole thing!)
To Anunsew, I offer my apologies. The two tracks you offered in the first round are pretty much what I asked for, but they didn't amaze me so in the end I decided not to use them. If I knew how to put together music decently well, I'd do it myself. Unavoidably, there's going to be an element of "I'll know it when I hear it" at work here, which also comes from the fact that there's a lot of variation in the kind of music this community makes.
At any rate, for now it's just something to consider for the future. Thanks to the people who offered music samples last year. Please look forward to this game's initial release in a few weeks.

Holy shit what?! You have a project with no music and the project's almost done?
Well I just so happen to be a musician with some free time. What kind of music do you need? I typically do downtempo electronic or industrial music, but I would love to try my hand at a mecha soundtrack, I have been known to do orchestral on occasion. Only downside is I can't play guitar :P so that un-diversifies things a bit.
