Title: [music] Grim! You suck!
Post by: Grimarg on October 08, 2011, 04:17:18 AM
So, as the title says, i suck, but that doesn't stop me.

In the morning a door closed over my left hand, and in the afternoon i recorded this  (http://www.4shared.com/audio/Uj6TA9tk/Oriental_Memory_of_Foregatheri.html)

I've been playing for a few months now,  with the internet as only teacher, dont be too hard on me.

I'll record the rythm later.

Reviewing your second one.

Which VST did you use? It sounds you ran a few guitar SF2s through an amp simulation VST. That being said I like the settings used here.

It could use more modulation and vibrato, I say.

I used Real Strat trough Amplitube Metal, I'm trying to get some grips on masteriing and stuff, and I still need to know how to compose drums, because I've always asked someone else to do them, friends, teachers, random guys... but someday I'll learn how to do them!

That's a really good sound. I can't get a good dist. guitar sounds from my synths. XD
I might check out Real Strat sometime. (Checked...omg the price)

...I'm taking that you're a fan of [Rumia is Flandre] idea? XD

On drums, are you planning to use a VST or a real drumkit?

VST for now, but sometime next year I'll start doing some shos with friends, so then I'll have a drummer, thus a real drumkit

so, I took a break, because of school, but I kept doing some stuff, it took me a few weeks to do this, and it's aweful, I feel that something doesn't work well, here, so before I record it, I want to post the original file for some critisism, to see what things I can improve n'all.

The piano track felt off-key and out of place in the first part, as if it wasn't following the rest of the song. It doesn't happen in the second part though.

As for the GM instrumentation, I would suggest replacing the overdrive guitar in track 3 with a distortion guitar, but that probably wont matter much when you play it IRL depending on your amp/simulator.
