Title: Would you join a Defense of the Shrines (DotS) Tournament?
Post by: Helepolis on January 10, 2011, 11:21:12 AM
Now that shrinemaiden has it's own battlenet, we want to take it one step further. A Defense of the Shrines tournament where everybody is free to join, even those from other forums, because we want to possibly make it a nice event.

Defense of the Shrines is basically the Touhou version of Defense of the Ancients. Read more here: http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Touhou_Defence_of_The_Shrines

However, before we can start the organising everything we need to poll whether enough people are interested in participating. Of course, people who are totally not interested in RTS games won't participate. But I am sure there are people who are willing to participate but are afraid of getting into it because of the differences in skills.

If there are enough players interested, we can perhaps create divisions so the skilled and less skilled can be divided. That is why I would like to poll:

"Are you interested in participating in a Defense of the Shrines Tournament?"

I would also like to ask: If you are interested , please post in here so I can get a general idea of who is joining ( like existing members and new members who just registered )

I voted immediately, but timing and such must be kept into a consideration...

That's all.

I suck at map awareness and teamplay, but sure.

timing and such must be kept into a consideration...
That too.

This is probably going to be the most hardest part in the entire event. Mainly because the time zone differences are huge. We will see.

I am interested in gambling on the results.

I will wager Vic. If my wagers succeed, I shall have two Vics!

I'm up for it but yeah the scheduling makes it seem difficult. It's hard enough to drag people together for a 1v1 tournament in something like Soku, getting a team together will be even harder.

There's also the question of balance. If we're actually playing competitively we can expect to see a lot of the same BS, and random pick doesn't fix that because team roles are important and whoever gets the most cohesive team would likely win.

Yeah, rules and stuff need to be decided.
Will it be like our games where it's no backdooring unless you're at a major disadvantage and no weather or will anything go?

By the way, I may probably not actually play and instead be a spectator and/or hold training sessions :V

Unless people would like to have me in a team :V

I am perfectly willing to help facilitate in admin being one of those who've played longer than most here.

Good questions above however, they are hard to answer atm.

Rules , admins and game mechanics will all be the next step if the tournament becomes reality. That will be discussed and planned afterwards.

I'd like to participate, although I think I'd have trouble with the timezones. :c

@addme
oh wait, I'm one of the organizers :V

All you folks citing time zone issues all happen to be in the same-ish region. No problem with the timings so far.

Although being available.... depends on my time schedule.

Map is far too poorly balanced for anything of a serious nature, so I'll vote no.

Yeah I don't think this is gonna work. Some of the regulars aren't even interested, so with our current numbers, at best we could get like four teams of 3. Short tournament.

Trying to play seriously will also probably result in us raging at the game much more than usual and suck the fun out of it.

I'd need to play at all before I can decide on whether I'd participate in a tournament, and that'll be a couple weeks.  But I do plan on checking it out, and I might be interested in a tournament.

Even if we don't end up running something competitive, new players are welcome. We'll teach you the game the hard way >:D

Seeing this as just another game rather than a tournament would work for the uninterested regulars. 4 teams of 3 doesn't sound too bad, either.

I've never had a problem with rage issues, so I can't give my opinion on that.

I voted yes for the poll. Concerning timing, the best time for matches would definitely be the weekends.

Voted yes after reading about DotS.

I know basic mechanics and basic strategies. But farming is an issue with me... 0.0

Sure I'd join, assuming I'm available at the time of course.  Sounds like good fun times.

If I may suggest though, why not institute a draft pick, like in Dota, in where one person from each team picks a hero at a time?

We can do Random Drafts. I sometimes play as if I was Single Drafting. And if we have 4v4s, I'll make Captains Mode as well.

There is the timezone problem for me still though....

I'll vote yes if we're not playing to our full potential, because there's still much to be learned and most people (me, anyways) are more like "learn at your own pace", and there's still lots of unexplored team setups and team matchups to be learned, which will make a difference in the outcome.

I was initially uninterested due to the rather limited disabler options (which don't have as much penalties for picking them like low hp or low farming potential) and limited orb effects and items (maybe, like Panda mentioned once, due to the fact that creeps in DotS are tougher than in DotA). Also, I love overestimating my character's damage and/or hp (everyone's a str character, right? Right?) and often being the weakest link on my teams :D

You need to post more.

If we can get a definite 16 players then it's a go. Let's try keep it in multiples of 4.
