Title: The Aki Sisters Appreciation Anthology
Post by: Ragathol on May 02, 2009, 12:45:25 AM
The old thread: http://old.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php?topic=1902.0 (http://old.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php?topic=1902.0)

...So, what has happened? Did anyone get a green light for starting? I haven't at least, even though he sent me a template for information to display in the artists' list, I'm not there, and I haven't heard from him since. Are we still doing this?

Observer to the rescue!

Ok, I'm not there on the pub-site either but did you check the master list where everyone shows up? (it's another link, I'm PM'ing it to you just in case as it's not directly visible on the site and I guess it's not meant to be either) I got the approval and then a request that had a link with the templates (text files and images). New templates were provided this week too.

Also, Nakasako posted this a couple of days ago:

参加が決定している人で連絡用リストをもらっていない方はメール下さい。
If there is a person who don't know the list to report, please mail me.

He replied a couple of times to me (about promotional material, sent in two banners and a big image) and I appear on the table along with Pus2Meong and a couple more (including KirbyM). So don't hesitate to mail him and ask about this.

Fingers crossed.

Myself, I haven't heard anything after sending in the rough draft, despite trying to find out whether or not I got in after that as well.  It's getting to the point where I might finish and turn in an entry and then find out I was declined...

Nakasako in the website said waiting for Promotional Illustration. I wondering what this mean?

I'm in, since my rough was accepted. And Nakasako said now if will not replying using email, but using the website.

I have check the message today and it seems the template was different from the printers, so we need to download the new one when available ^^

Is anyone can tell me what is promotional Illustration. I'm making manga, does Promo Illust mean some kinda front cover of the manga chapter (just like in normal serial manga) ?

Well, I've mailed him twice, but I'm still not on the list.
Most of the participants seem to be japanese... wasn't this an foreign artist collection?

Wait.. I saw this now... http://reine-musik.com/temp/aki/rough.htm (http://reine-musik.com/temp/aki/rough.htm)
That's another e-mail address... I sent it to his personal mail. But.... I got the template and filled it in, so... Hurm, I dunno.

Yes: better hurry and deliver everything before the 9th may deadline. D: (kidding, just the roughs according to the schedule posted in the old forums)

If you have something finished you can send Nakasako whatever you think might work as your promotional illustration (or the prettiest, the craziest, etc.) and he'll add it to the site. Mine was put up today and we might be added to the public list (the one visible for everyone, better take out the template link =P) soon.

Oh, check out the template list. The deadine for the real submission is made early: 13 june.

Yep, that's my work. Apparently, it good a quite good reception among the japs, which is seriously awesome considering for my stuff all I got from a bunch of people was: "Wow, weird. Can't you do a little dog or a flower vase?" No, I can't. xP

And about the deadline: FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF... Yeah, this kinda shocked me as it leaves me with far less time than I originally had in mind.

Now I have to make haste.

Where is this list posted?

I am interested to see whom other westerners are inside.

Check the link Ragathol slipped away a couple of posts above.

I see Gensokyo.org, KirbyM and a couple more.

I also see TAM, Happy Flame Time, Nakasako himself, a guy from Maikaze and a couple more. Stassy was right, there are several badasses in the list. Quite weird to be in the middle with them.

Previously I'm not even paying any attention about the badass list ^^. But now you mention it, and I start feeling weird too... "What the heck I'm doing here? I'm in the middle of great people! I hope I'm not causing disgrace or something to them"  ;D

I think in the realm of fanworks, you all should be equally great.

It is necessary to think you and them are mere artists working for a better future of your own through a community platform, so no one is on top of one another you know.

Thanks for the link, missed that earlier.

Huh.  Did you also get in just now?  I received my notice yesterday because my e-mail got lost in the confusion... which was because the name that shows up when I use gmail was different from my given pen name.  (Not anymore... I changed it to keep a farce like that from happening again!)

Hmm, it seems like the deadline got changed back at the last minute or something.  And here I was working until sunrise worrying whether the deadline was in Japan's time zone...

However, I did get my stuff done.  Finally.  How's everyone else holding up?

Oh, now I can finally release some frustration!

Let's see... The microphone we had for our piano broke last week, right when my brother was planning to do the final recording. The piano was also completely out of tune due to the heavy classical work he always does.

Result? Emergency race to a studio with piano to do the final recording.

As for my artwork, well, you guys probably saw that already. It's also on my sig, the surreal/shiny/abstract Shizuha firing crazy autumnal space danmaku. That is finished. My short story+poem are also finished but I let the text rest a week and now I'm going through one last editing session tonight in order to update that and send it.

I have sent the script yesterday. Thank God the deadline was pushed back because I still not finished editing the pages at 13th. I make alot of change from the original rough, that's why I need more time to draw and thinking the alternate scene ^^;

Not bad, but do you have an editor for your script? Some of that English looks a little odd.

"This place not belong to you! But mine, don't forget that!" should probably be "This is my place, not yours! Don't forget that!"

Yeah, I guess you can't do much about it now. And the since most of the people reading this are Japanese anyway, they probably won't realize it, hehe.

Yeah, I guess you can't do much about it now. And the since most of the people reading this are Japanese anyway, they probably won't realize it, hehe.

This is something that worries me a bit because my stuff will go in spanish but I did an engl/rish translation for them and while I tried to make it as accurate as possible but translating is a task that demands finesse and still some words and intentions still get lost. I have an aussie friend who helped me with this, which means the text reads more like what aussies write rather than british/USA stuff. Bloody awesome, mate.

Pus2meong: Looking forward to see the rest. The art looks neat!

Someone needs to translate those Aoneko's 4komas available on the site too. I wonder what they say.

Weird news of the day: did anyone get a reply in japanese when doing the final submission? I ran it through google translator (yay for inaccuracy!) and it apparently said something about thanking and looking forward to see if they spot something weird and/or mistakes?

I got one like that, too.  And I wouldn't be surprised if it said the exact same thing.  I also ran it through a translator (Babel Fish), and it seemed to say something to the effect of "we would like to write to each of the participants individually, but due to the massive amount of mail we ask for your patience".  So I guess they sent out a single cover-all message for each e-mail with entries attached... although it's a little disorienting for us foreign artists.

Other than that I think you got the gist of it, so we're pretty much done now.  Congrats to everyone who got some stuff into C76!

@Observer
Thanks :D

Yeah, I got the same reply too. And just like Graph said, Nakasako probably sending mass email to reply at once using blank carbon copy. Some of the line are make sense to me, but there's one line telling about "hemp" or something, which I never asking this kind of question XD

Oh I was wondering, since I not expecting to get paid by this project (but love if get paid XD), do we got the copy of the book?
I mean, it would be nice to have the book. (I can use it for bragging and show off to my friend, hahahahaha :D)

Pus2meong> (Sorry, too big to quote xP)

You're welcome. I spotted pretty fairies too and that's always good!

We are so many in this thing that I doubt any earnings will be made, especially if they go for that crazy "quality" mode that some japanese tend to take.

It would be indeed nice to get at least one copy per participant. Ah, the bragging rights, eh? To get it published is already awesome and might open the gate for future contributions and other weird stuff.

So the message was a mass mail. Heh, interesting nevertheless!

Ah, seems quite a bit happened while I was away. Sorry for not being around too much.

Each participant will be sent 2 copies of the anthology. I think Nakasako will go around asking where you are some time in the near future, if you haven't already told him. I guess you'll have the right not to give him your address for privacy whatever reasons, but then you'll have a thin chance of receiving the anthology.

Um, as for the corrections, there's still time. If you find something wrong by Sunday JST, you can still send it in. Nakasako said if you have a Indonesian script, you can have that on the anthology instead of the English version as well. (In which case the English version will be placed in the DVD.) However, Sunday is the final deadline, so, if you send a major correction in on Sunday, and the whole thing has to be retranslated into Japanese, the Japanese retranslation may not be complete in time.

I didn't get any confirmation, but I'm on the list after some misunderstandings, and apparently Talka is translating my script, so I guess I'm clear. As for me, I'd like to order(pay for) at least 10-15 extra copies to sell or give to friends, in addition to the free copies. But I guess I'll drop a notice to Nakasako when that time comes...

Here's a sample from my comic:

I see, I made two pages revision. It only a small revision thought.

But I will not send the Indonesian language page because I have no time to edit the pages. Also, most of Touhou fans in my country are able to read English, so it would not be a problem ;D

@Ragathol
Hahahaha, funny story you have  :D

Well, well, some sample stuff has been uploaded to the site. PDF with the format and an mp3 with the arranges. In short: preview of what is coming.

Nerves anyone?

My blood ran a bit cold when I recognised my bro's piano piece. However, damn, now I see why lo-fi mp3 sucks. I hope the final cut on wav will sound better because the live recordings source files we have are in godly hi-fi stereo mucho-mucho punchi-punchi. God, hope it turns well. It costed me so damn much to convince him...

Other than that, it's looking quite awesome so far.

I got 4 packages for the last two months, all of it arrived while I'm not at home.
My Mom call me, "Son, you got package from overseas!" without saying any other words (multiply this by 4)

I was like: "Woooah! This is it!" (multiply this by 4 too)

And it turn out:
1. Model kit
2. Lightsaber sound board
3. Figma Drossel
4. Optional Parts for figure and model kit

I hope the sixth one will be the one. (Not the fifth one because I believe the 5th one will be my  Figma Aegis  ;D)

If they sent this the last working day prior to the Golden Week then we are screwed because that freaking thing delayed pretty much everything.

Now, maybe we could drag Talka here. Good to see someone else is wondering... Maybe we should just as Nakasako directly. Usually, the stuff from Japan arrives from between 2 to 3 weeks. Only once I had to wait over a month for a 600g package I had to pick in the customs.

Due to the weight of the books, we are still in time as it isn't a month since the post that announced the packages.

I'm using Walfas as a measure. He participated too but still hasn't post about it, ergo, didn't get it either.

http://colombianon.blogspot.com/

However, Anonymous from Colombia did get the damn thing. Ergo, our postal services suck balls, guys.  :-[

I am really sure mine is freaking stuck at the customs and those f?$%?$% won't even notify me.

It happened when a framed print of one of my paintings was shipped from Australia and they delayed it and kept delaying it until I explained it was my work of art and, as such, it cannot be taxed.

This is getting a bit frustrating... We are already past 17th october. Original announcement was done on september 5th. Give it one more day or so and it is still over a month. *

I personally went to the closest post office and asked if they could check all air mail packages from Japan. There was some stuff (we have a lot of japanese and other asian people in this area) but, as I feared, nothing was there. The weight pretty much warrants it got stuck in the customs and, allow me to curse, those fuckers won't even properly notify you and after two months they send the packages back.

I'll give it a couple more days then head to the customs personally and see if I can do something because I can't be bothered and bothering other people with this any longer.  :'(

* edit: now that I watched that old Simpsons episode where Springfield gets the Osaka flu due to japanese packages I will give them some extra time. You could read "6 to 8 weeks later" after Homer orders that ridiculous machine. There is still time I guess.

It seems he hasn't send the copy, but he might start send the copy for us now. Probably because he is busy dealing his other work and, the preparation of new project.

Now, a Parsee project? My beloved Green-Eyed jealousy? (unofficial Parsee fan here) Holy shit, fukken signing for that (if we can) even if it takes another year to arrive. I have so much jealousy and envy towards a lot of people at the moment...  :V

Probably the tastes of the organizers come into it, too... although it does help if the characters are also generally underappreciated.  Besides that, I know Parsee x Yuugi is rather popular, but I'm not sure about Parsee herself...

Actually, I already have a good idea of what I would do for that one.

Now I doubt I'll get an answer unless I re-send the message. The site has changed domain, mails have changed domain so I fear whatever I sent got lost in the middle (or Caught in the Middle, paraphrasing Rainbow and the almighty Dio). Keep that in mind, people.

Oh, whoa... was kind of away from the forums for a while. Try sending Email or something next time something's amiss :x

I actually haven't received the parcel myself, and I live in Japan... but well, in terms of domestic shipping maybe I'm an exception not to have gotten it yet.

Um, I asked Nakasako right now, and here's the reply.

--

Hello,

This is Nakasako of the Aki Sisters Anthology.

I'm dreadfully sorry about some of the international shipment being delayed. The shipping costs outside Asia is extremely expensive, and so I am unable to ship some of the parcels until the collection of the sales proceeds.

Enough funds were finally collected at the end of October, so the next business day of the post office (Monday, November 2) I plan to send them.

Your understanding is greatly appreciated.

(Not an excuse or anything but it cost around US$2,000 just for the international shipping!)

Hello,
(Not an excuse or anything but it cost around US$2,000 just for the international shipping!)

Woah! :o That much? Is Nakasako using EMS?
If he does, please tell him to use SAL to save money. My country accepting SAL shipment.

As I predicted, Nakasako did using EMS

I just receive the book few minutes ago :D
And wanna say, AMAZING!!!!
The book is better than the downloadable scan pages!
I will post the pictures here, but since my friend accidentaly bring my USB cable, I cannot hook up my camera to my laptop (my laptop card reader can't read SDHC too >.<). I need time to working out :D

Edit: Found my old-busted SD card, and use it to take the pics.

Oh my dear god that's freaking awesome! I'm a bit scared though (2k usd! Good god!). I'm assuming the Anthology is selling steadily. I've been recommending it to a lot of people.

I started doing the math a couple of weeks ago, counting all the people the result was close to that number. *heart attack*

My main frustration was that I had the bad luck of sending the mails right when the accounts and the domain were changed... Talk about Murphy's Law.

Did you have to pay custom taxes for it? I hope I won't since it's supposed to be a gift but the customs here are renowned for being godly bastards (everything EMS gets opened and checked) and Japs seem to love EMS (well, N-Forza also recommended me EMS  :V)... Fingers crossed, hoping I won't get murdered by danmaku taxes. I'll let you know the end of this story sooner or later.

Also, your friend is awesome too, pus2meong! Definitely join him to the upcoming project, I'm sure it'll be great!

I do the same math like you, I send him message and ask him not to send the package for me using EMS. But using SAL, but it seems already late :D

The policy in my country is all shipment under 50 USD will be tax free. But it seems the custom dude let it loose up to 100 USD (some of my item from Japan and USA are not charged by any taxes, even the value almost near 100 USD. But may be I just lucky :D).
But let's just see about that, because next week I got another item from Japan with EMS worth of 70 USD :D
BTW, Nakasako declaring the book value by 4000 yen and marked as a gift too.

I will ask my friend to join the next project.
But since this one already giving Nakasako problem when arranging Aki Sisters Project, I think he going to be more selective this time (you'll know what happen if you read the book ;) )

I got it today! Together with 10 extra copies, holy shit. Well, I did say I wanted extras, but that was before I knew they cost 2500 yen apiece :x
Well, I can manage, I guess. Just hope I can sell the others.
I had to pay some toll fees, but not that much, so it was ok.
The book and DVD(and keystraps) all look extremely nice and professional, so I'm happy. Just have to contact Nakasako and find some way to pay for all this extra weight.

Did he have a new mail address?

Did he have a new mail address?

Yes. Make sure you check the site before mailing, don't do as I did... The new one has "mapoze" at the end.

And now that we are at it, seems Nakasako went full guns blazing on us... I got it TODAY! Happiness ensues! I can't believe it! In this country? So fast? Power of EMS and constant protests and subway strikes. Didn't have to pay hopefully since he stated "Books (self-published)" (the 4k yen value was over the tax exception but books are the only thing protected by law against taxes... phew).

He sent four copies here (2 and 2: my bro and I).

I have to agree the book is freaking ace, same with the straps (although I don't have cellphone  :V ... umm, yeah, believe me I don't have), which are really cute and the DVD is nice so far although I think the resolution wasn't properly placed or my DVD player is a disaster. I'm inclined to believe the latter.

Although my bro almost shouted at the level of cuteness (grunt classical music pianist with a tendency to dislike everything cute) and growled when we listened and noticed the piano tune put on the disc was Version 2 recorded at our home with our El Cheapo mic instead of the studio version we recorded and sent as the Final.  :-X Which is odd because the mp3 sample actually featured the new one so I think they finished the DVD before?

I felt the sound of our Bechstein piano is amazing despite being so old but you guys have to hear the final one too. I'm uploading it to NicoNico soon and submitting it to Nakasako as well just in case. More promotions (of the good kind) wouldn't hurt.

I finally convinced my brother to at least put a small site (http://arcanedivinepiano.wordpress.com/) (I had to use mine back then as he got a laziness attack) to upload pieces, start promoting his work and make it his stronghold for, umm, yup the Parsee Project and other stuff.

Pictarr time:

Cellphone thingies/DVD Strap

Epic package was epic and heavy... metal.

And suddenly Touhou goes into surreal danmaku mode

I don't know how much it costed to print this given its massive size but the coloured pages alone are expensive as hell... As an editor, my blood runs cold when I imagine the costs. In conclusion: "Only in Japan (c)".

Wow!  I saw an image like this on the project website and I've always wondered what all these swirly light things are.  Now it's zoomed out to thumbnail view and I think I see it.  That's pretty cool.

hahaha! Yes, I'm guilty of that one. And beware I'll try to prepare something just as weird if I go spreading surrealistic envy and jealousy.

By the way, after so much worry, it's time for the praising: I would like to thank Talka for translating my short story to japanese (it's on the DVD) as well as the whole commentary (also featured on the DVD).

I also read the comments of Nakasako regarding the issues this anthology went through (and I'm sure it wasn't a really nice situation...) so I'm really happy things turned well. We are amazed (more like we still can't recover our jaws from the ground) at the details on everything. My brother wants to mess with all that sound equipment he keeps posting on his site, especially the condensers, keyboards... and that awesome harpsichord. Talk about music-addict.

A huge applause for everyone.

After observing carefully I made another mistakes >.<
Minoriko's Spell card supposed to be Owotoshi Harvester, not Otowoshi Harvester >.<
Talka putting a note regarding this matter on the translation, please forgive me. I'll be more careful next time (T_T)

Wow, Nakasako doesn't even want me to pay for the ten extra books... Is that really ok? ^^;
Well, we'll see... He asked me to join the Parsee Project, and I'm always up for some of that lil' green-eyed miscreant. Should be good fun. Now to think of a story...

oh god I would seriously participate if I had any ability to do anything to support this Parsee project.

Parsee definitely needs more love.

How I wish I could convince my YoungestSis to draw Parsee. Artworks are fine, right?

And I think this would call for a new thread if we were to talk Parsee Anthology.

"Th ... these people all love me!? I'm jeal-- wait."

Congrats on finally receiving the anthology ^_^.

Ok, I still have nightmares thinking about the amount of money Nakasako paid to ship everything via EMS. Only in Japan, people.

I'm trying to convince one of my friends to join and write something because she's a good writer but... jeez, self confidence isn't one of her fortes.

I got a reply from Nakasako too. He sent me the link to the about page but explained there is no english part yet and that I'm allowed to make another surreal interpretation (YAY~!).

Standards/quality guidelines will be pretty much the same as the Aki Sisters Anthology but this time 'round the deadlines appear to be far stricter (we only have around two months and a half apparently, this goes for sale on Reitaisai, which is on March so stuff will probably be delivered on february, the shortest of the months) and seems Nakasako himself will be quite strict regarding this to avoid the issues and problems mentioned on the afterword.

... and I fear for Talka, for we'll drop him bricks of text to translate from filthy gaijin language to embellished kanji. :V

/me sighs

what irks me is that, i got in.. and no1 even told me about that and this entire project just faded away.

Need time line for the Parsee Anthology and I'll be glad to take part again.
