Get your BibleThumps ready cause this shit comes out tomorrow.
Also a reminder if you already own the original Binding of Isaac, buying Rebirth before it comes out tomorrow nets you a 33% discount and a TF2 hat.
If you don't already know what Binding of Isaac is, the tl;dr is it's the original Legend of Zelda's dungeon exploration + Rogue-like permadeath and randomness mechanics, all wrapped up with happy joyful themes like gore, child abuse, religion, and lots and lots of literal shit (don't worry it's all cartoony so nothing is actually cringe inducing).
Here's the more official description
When Isaac?s mother starts hearing the voice of God demanding a sacrifice be made to prove her faith, Isaac escapes into the basement facing droves of deranged enemies, lost brothers and sisters, his fears, and eventually his mother.
Gameplay
The Binding of Isaac is a randomly generated action RPG shooter with heavy Rogue-like elements. Following Isaac on his journey players will find bizarre treasures that change Isaac?s form giving him super human abilities and enabling him to fight off droves of mysterious creatures, discover secrets and fight his way to safety.

The main draw of the game is the fact that no two runs ever feel the same. Everything from the items you get, to the levels you traverse, to even the bosses you fight, have some random variations to them. One run might involve you finding a tonf of heath upgrades and soul hearts allowing you to slowly tank your way through everything, while another might give you items with insane attack power but very little in terms of health making you more of a glass cannon.
Also the gameplay itself actually feels very Touhou-esque as you have to dodge enemies and bloody bullets as you try to survive your way through several stages and bosses before you can face off against Mom herself. The tension of trying to survive through each level with limited resources and the looming threat of permadeath is not unlike the tension of a Touhou 1cc run.
-
If you guys are curious about the game, have a look at Total Biscuit being freaken out by the original game. :V
(Just keep in mind the game was made by the person behind Super Meat Boy and the links while on youtube might not be safe for work!)

Alternatively, if you don't mind some spoilers, watch someone decent going through it. ^^

I haven't touched Isaac in about a year to be fully prepared to dive headfirst into Isaac
metaphorically, not literally, although god only knows that might be an actual thing
-
Also the gameplay itself actually feels very Touhou-esque...The tension of trying to survive through each level with limited resources and the looming threat of permadeath is not unlike the tension of a Touhou 1cc run.
I liken Isaac's combat to Robotron, really. The dual-handed shooting and movement is very similar to that game, I'm surprised more people don't remember it orz... RIP Robotron!
Another thing about Isaac that makes it so awesome is the persistent unlocks. Any item you find or unlock has a chance to appear in the basement in a later run, and you can find some pretty OP stuff (Mega Fetus, anyone?
). The upgradable shops also help with this aspect; if you had a good enough run in the original Isaac you could easily end up with a ton of money that just sat around and did nothing (shops don't appear after the sixth floor and beggars/slot machines don't appear as much). Now you can just dump all your excess coinage into Reimu's the shopkeeper's donation box and unlock more items. :3c
One more thing to discuss: there is a "random" mode in this game, a character named...Eden, I think? Anyways, when you kill Mom you get "Mom Kill Points," and to play one "Random" run you need to spend points. Eden starts with random items, so you could get something really interesting, or something completely worthless. :V Either way, as someone who loves unpredictability in games like these, I look forward to using Eden.
-
I am just too damned hype since I've pre-purchased this thing a few weeks back sooooo
But yeah original!Isaac is just as good (even though I've yet to get to even Sheol-levels of deep into the game :qq:
) and is something I've been constantly playing whenever I felt like nothing else in my library was needed to waste my time (except hotmiami because :dragonforce:)
-
It comes out tomorrow? Where has all the time gone? I'm gonna have to clear out my schedules for three days straight of just marathoning runs until I get good enough to beat Mom again.
Boy, I just can't wait to cry blood at bloated fly-infested children-monsters in horrific catacombs!

1 hour left! :toot:
e: 5 mins!!!

Actually it's still locked at the time of this post. Many people from what I see are impatient. X D
Northernlion has apparently access to it though. Perhaps they allowed him to start earlier since he's one of the main Let's Player of the game and thus contribute to the hype.
I also saw topic written in Korean and possibly Russian at Steam about the game. X D
I guess the game is to some extend popular worldwide.

YouTubers of reknown usually have early access. Honestly, Northernlion's likely been playing for a couple days and already recording
he's still a scumbag tho

IT WORKS NOW IM IN

If it's still locked, close and restart Steam. Now I am gone. Bye! : )
-
Release stream yeahhhhh (http://www.hitbox.tv/garlyle)
-
Fuck there was a devil room but I didn't notice until I left because the screen is so dark now :<
Dammit Mom killed and I won... but I actually had a really good build that could have taken the womb too :ohdear:
-
BOSS RUSH OF EVERY BOSS
Garlyle wtf.
-
I'm gonna post my satuff in this post. Spoilers on new stuff.
Game 1: Die on Caves 2 to Peep. [I'm bad at Issac]. Get a Devil Deal on Basement 1 due to a Curse Room. New items I obtained during the run included A blue mushroom, a sort of nappy-pin thing, Dark Matter, Lil'Brimstone and a Missing Page 2
Unlocked Azazel
Game 2: Try out Azazel. HP is listed as MINUS ONE. He starts out flying with 3 black hearts and a Fool card, and a sort of mini Brimstone shot. Got a Caffine Pill.
Died on Basement 2 because apparently Mullibooms are FAST now.
Game 3: Back to Issac. Died on Caves 2 to Fistula miniboss, seems to move a lot faster. Caves 1 Boss was interesting, now but ultimately a damage sponge once you figured him out.
-
Man this game runs so much better than the original
The original would lag for no reason sometimes but no problems with Rebirth so far
oh man there are as many people playing this game as there are playing TF2
-
reeeeeeeally tempted to get this
-
I finally beat Mom. Tips for beating her? Pay to win! :dealwithit:
I got an item which make drops the 1+1 version.
I bought at the shop the piggy bank item which spawn money when you get hit. I got a portable slot machine and played it next to a blood bank.
It was ridiculous. Got lot of Pretty Fly and ressources. Then I bought an item that deals damage when you pay to activate it.
The damage is weak but money wasn't an issue. :V
If I got hit, I just spammed the item to clear the room.
Getting the Mitre and that item that give you charged Monstro shot didn't hurt either.
I also invested money at the shop. Getting the "Investment counter" at 10 unlock an item. At 20 it level up the shop but I am not sure what that means yet.
Curiously, I have yet to meet Greed.
I unlocked Azazel easily, the Devil offered me 3 cheap deal in a single room.
I also unlocked Lazarus although I forgot the requirement. X D
He start with a pill and if he dies, he revive once but only with a single max heart/less max HPs.
I don't know if it's just me but I like Mom's new voice. :3
Oh, pro tips for you guys. If you hear an evil laugh, keep moving. You'll thank me later. :V
reeeeeeeally tempted to get this
There are worse ways to spend 15$. :3
-
The original would lag for no reason sometimes
the reason was Flash is shit
-
Oh, pro tips for you guys. If you hear an evil laugh, keep moving. You'll thank me later. :V
wallmasters get back to your Zelda games
So, played a bunch, beat Mom, unlocked Lazarus and the Halo, proceeded to roll through the game as Lazarus. Cool items, and all that.
Actually got to the Mom's Heart
boss fight. Hoo boy, it's changed a lot. Touhou-style bullet patterns. I could probably have won if I didn't pick up the dead cat earlier in the game. As it was, I just died five times to the darn thing.
the patterns are apparently randomized. There are some really cool ones, like this one that speeds up and slows down to the heartbeat
-
i uh
i kinda broke the game?
tanooki leaf + attack fly = i just uh automatically beat mom's heart :derp:
-
So I kinda streamed this for five hours.
Someone was mad at me because I got the Bible right before the Mom's Heart fight so I just obliterated her and then went straight to Sheol!?. Sadly did not beat it in the end but
I got to try out Eden. You get one shot at them every time you beat Mom's Heart, and you start with what appears to be completely random items (it might be "random trinket + random activateable + random passive" but hell if I can say with any certainty yet).
Coolest run so far though was the Ludovico Technique (Your tears become tear, singular, and permanent. It spawns with you in a room, and then you manually control it and sit it on top of enemies to damage them
). Combined it with another new item and ended up with my own personal fireball, which ocasionally while damaging things would explode like a bomb and leave behind a pillar of flame
. It was so much fun holy shit.
Also uh
BOSS RUSH OF EVERY BOSS
Garlyle wtf.
So the story about this I'm still NOT SURE WHAT HAPPENED, but, When I defeated Mom during the "When Life Gives You Lemon" challenge, the wall nearby busted open. I found a huge room in there with four item pedestals. When I grabbed one, the other three vanished, and I proceed to fight, two at a time, basically every single boss from the original Binding of Isaac barring endbosses (so no Mom, Mom's Heart, Satan, Isaac, Blue Baby). Including bosses that apparently were still locked from showing up in Rebirth).
I have no idea how this triggered, or what this is or what it does or what but it was FUN AS HELL because I was pretty terrifyingly powerful thanks to having transformed into Guppy during this run.
Give me a moment and I'll try to make a video highlight of the run.
-
Finally beat Mom (not Mom's Heart yet) with Lazarus after a few attempts. He seems to start with a 1up effect but no other items, I cheesed my way through thanks to the Spirit of the Night :3c
I also found some really helpful items:
- An Exploding Bomb Fly familiar that goes kaboom on contact with an enemy (explosion can still hurt you tho). Respawns after several seconds.
- The Leech: My new familiar familiar, heals you for half a heart every time it kills something.
- Lead Bar: Gives you concussive tears, which stun enemies and make them wander around for a bit. Doesn't work on certain enemies though.
- Mom's Eyeshadow: Got this in a separate run, but this gives your tears a chance to charm enemies. Very useful in crowded rooms and boss fights!
- Two new bomb effect items, one gives you concussive bombs and the other gives you bombs that explode into tears.
- Little Haunt: A ghost familiar that attacks enemies...Sometimes. Dunno what its triggers are to fight back.
- Libra: Equalizes your stats. Might be good, might be bad depending on what other items you collected earlier.
I love the variety in the room layouts (the Caves have pools of water, OMG)
, and the new enemies are both interesting and annoying. Raikaria also mentioned Black Hearts earlier, those damage all enemies in the room when you lose them.
I also like the larger rooms they added, they make each dungeon floor feel a lot bigger though it doesn't seem like the areas have "XL" versions yet. I'll have to look into this.
EDIT: The only thing that I kinda...Dislike is the music, after listening to Danny Baronovsky's soundtrack in the previous game, the sudden shift to something a lot less upbeat feels...Jarring.
Anyone try Hard Mode yet?
-
Jump to 1:31:00 (http://www.hitbox.tv/video/307955) for the run. 1:50-ish or so for the fight with Mom and the thing I found. It's a complete run of the "When Life gives you lemons" challenge, where I also achieve the rare
transform into Guppy
, get a new item or two, oh, and yeah, the thing mentioned earlier.
Also on my run where I cleared Mom's Heart, I realised afterwards that I kinda accidentally
(https://33.media.tumblr.com/ec4e0e413be4a2602345d4304e6d54df/tumblr_nejn980gJz1r8hguio1_400.png)

I really, really dig the new music. Especially once you hit the Depths and below. The music down there is so amazing.
Also I've only been playing on Hard. This might explain why I was able to head to Sheol
.
-
Yeah the new music is really atmospheric but not nearly as iconic as the original
-
EDIT: The only thing that I kinda...Dislike is the music, after listening to Danny Baronovsky's soundtrack in the previous game, the sudden shift to something a lot less upbeat feels...Jarring.
Clearly this means you should swap between Binding of Isaac and Crypt of the Necrodancer. :V

OH SHIT
cobalt beat satan and then suddenly THE DARK ROOM
THE RIDE NEVER ENDS
Oh god double krampus in a tiny ass room
Oh shit TRUE FINAL BOSS!?
okay that was more like the extra boss :V
-
OH SHIT
cobalt beat satan and then suddenly THE DARK ROOM
Out of curiosity did that area look anything like this? (http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/536253398299923952/FDFAB658620766680EB92BEE2CF4F0F818FF765A/). Because I found this in a Super Secret Room, and those are all supposed to be based on the different sectors of the game but I have damn sure never seen this place before
.
-
yep it looked just like that
-
oh boy oh boy oh boy
guess I need to git gud then
-
i think it was triggered by getting
The Negative
makes sense since it's The Dark Room
-
Can anyone explain how the
pink room with the die pip-like holes that rerolls the floor you're on
works? I managed to run into it as a 2-key room
, so I'm not sure what it means yet.
-
there is so much new shit and we all have NO IDEA how they work or what they do :V
like at the start of the dark room on the second run there's a HUGE GOLDEN DOOR with a big key on it but normal keys dont do shit
-
Also I've only been playing on Hard. This might explain why I was able to head to Sheol
.
I'll have to look into this, then. Might also explain why I haven't seen the alternate floors yet (Cellar, Utero, etc).
Cain still confirmed to be broken. XD Toxic Tears + Mega Close Range Tears make for an excellent combo...Though I think picking up a Pentagram earlier might have helped me more.
-
Okay so supposedly the thing I found is what the clock is indicating between floors. If you can reach and defeat Mom in time it causes it to spawn.
Supposedly that's the condition anyway. Considering I got there in about 20 minutes and it's only the first six floors and all, it's not too strict.
-
I went into the
pink die-pip item randomizer room
(??) as Azazel and... let's just say the new upgrades didn't cooperate well with Azazel's mini-brimstone shot type.
:derp: I proceeded to move through the game in utter confusion as my shot (which no longer did anything when hitting the shooting buttons) fired seemingly randomly from different parts of the room from swirling vortexes in space (http://puu.sh/cDT7b.png). I have no idea. Pressing the buttons a lot or not so much or in rhythms didn't even appear to influence it... if they did the delay was too long for me to understand.
Yet it was fun, but... really, really bad for actually doing things. I made it to Mom's Heart somehow, but there was no hope. And since it occurred from my items being randomized, I can't say what did it, or even what combination of multiple things at once :V
Anyway, understanding the mechanic behind SUPER BOSS RUSH holy shit
is good, because it nets you unlocks and puts a Star on your clear notepad in character select. Completionism, ho!
This game seems to have a lot more crazy powerful items (or combinations of them, at least) but the difficulty feels like it's scaled up as well. On the whole, though, it's a lot more interesting. But... yeah, a concerning amount of my runs today got overwhelmingly powerful from just a couple upgrades, even if they tended to end in death anyway simply due to it being crazy hard to make a net gain of HP in the Womb... especially when it gives you utero half the time.
And I hate the miniboss that sinks under the floor and then completely disappears, leaving you with no idea where it's going to pop up, so you probably end up standing on it or running into it when it surfaces sooner or later. Because it's fairly large. And seems to center on you sometimes, but not enough that you can just keep moving to avoid it, nope.
-
I just saw someone open that huge door in The Dark Room.
Inside it is a secret boss that literally reaches Touhou levels of bullets.
MEGA SATAN.
The runner died when he fired a huge barrage of bullets which then split 4-way like the parasite shots but stronger.
Oh and he has no HP bar.
Also trhere was a giant room in Depths where Mom Hands kept falling. If they directly hit me they would return me to the start room.
-
Just letting those Playstation Vita/PS4 guys on the fence know...
If you have PS Plus? Free.
-
Someone was mad at me because I got the Bible right before the Mom's Heart fight so I just obliterated her
I wasn't so much mad but more disappointed because I wanted to see what you'd say to what it does now. :V
And getting to proceed after Mom isn't exclusive to Hard Mode but merely bound to you getting a Devil Room after the fight. Getting an Angel Room even let's you go to the Cathedral now.
-

And getting to proceed after Mom isn't exclusive to Hard Mode but merely bound to you getting a Devil Room after the fight. Getting an Angel Room even let's you go to the Cathedral now.
It's because they are not functionally identical anymore or generated using the same code.
-
Finally got to beat Mom's Heart using Maggy. Having max hearts, a sun card, cancer,
splash damage tears and a curse charged that make you shoot lot of tears at once
helped a bit.
That being said, one of the item I took (not sure which one) gave me the curse skull teleportation effect which was annoying and made me took forever to beat the Mom's fights which outherwise would have not took forever.
Then again, said effect game me a free secret room and allowed me to skip most of the first Womb floor so it's not all bad either. ^-^
One of the new item is the Unicorn Stump which the effect is to make you stumped to make you invicible for a short while but prevent you to attack or damage the enemy. I used it to cheese the blood bank! :D It could probably also works with stuff like Big Fan and Poison Touch.
Oh, one of the item you unlock from investement is "Option". At first it doesn't seems to do anything beside putting a mark on your head but the effect will become very obvious when you'll clear a boss room
. I suggest getting it early for best results.
Also, the investment device tend to get stuck
when you overuse it. X D
Pro tip : when you have the max of red hearts, you can't pick up special hearts even if your red heart are empty. White hearts seem to be an exception.
-
Yeah I think your health is actually capped at 12 now while before you could have as much health as you wanted but it just wouldn't show on the screen.
-
Also, the investment device tend to get stuck when you overuse it. X D
It's deliberate. Your donations carry over between games as far as unlocks go, but it's meant to be a long term progress thing. Otherwise if you got a good run going you could easily invest 100+ coins in a single run and sort of destroy the entire point of the thing.
By the way you can bomb it in a pinch to get some coins back from it - but more than you will recieve will be deducted from the invested total.
-
Haven't completed a game yet, but I've been thoroughly enjoying this.
Isaac is a pretty scary little dude sometimes.
With the three-dollar bill (random tears each room), Monstro's lung (charge up and vomit blood everywhere), and whatever item gives you HUGE but short range tears
I was literally vomiting/crying gigantic scythes in a room.
-
I don't get any cool stuff. I've got none so far. The closest I've got to crazy tear combos was Perfume+Pinky Eye+Ludivico Technique, which basically made my tear a disco ball.
-
By the way, while I did have pretty good item luck on top of it (e.g. Spirit of the Night kinda clinched it, actually sad it was my first clear so only through Depths), the Computer Savvy challenge should be pretty easy generally given the starting loadout. As far as I could tell/remember from last night running it it's
Technology, Technology 2, Spoon Bender
(they're all original/Wrath of the Lamb items so actually look-up-able :V)
-
I BEAT MOM/MUM.
I've never done this. Ever.
I got quite a lot of early HP upgrades, in part due to some special room which needed 2 keys in Basement 2 which Acted like a Forget Me Now
. All this excess HP let me get quite a few Deals with the Devil, as well as the level reset
. I had Brimstone, Lord of the Pit, Goat's Head [IDK what it did but it was my 1st deal] and Headless Baby
But the stars of the show were in the midgame. I picked up an Empty Bottle; which let me store Hearts. Then I got a Bloodbank. Then I found that there were Full Health Pills in the rotation. Then I got Litt' Baggy, which let me carry 2 Full Health Pills. Let's just say I played the bank enough to not only unlock the Blood Bag, but get one too, and then still have enough to play Demon Judgement and get the Virus.
So for me, this is huge.
Also I unlocked Cain that run. Because Bloodbanks.
-
HAHAHA
I JUST HAD A GREAT RUN AS CAIN
It started ok, and I picked up maggy, rotten baby (the one that shoots blue flies), and a bunch of other buddies.
Then I picked up flaming tears.
THE ENEMIES MELT BEFORE ME.
By the time I faced mom, I had damage at 1 short of max damage. Plus so many tear effects and familiars, and flying! When I beat mom, I took the bonus boss rush murder room
and picked up this cool item that made enemies and bosses explode into spiders when they died
. Mom's Heart
didn't stand a chance.
Seed code:

Just letting those Playstation Vita/PS4 guys on the fence know...
If you have PS Plus? Free.
Got it and played it on my Vita today. Handles pretty well, but then I decided to fight Satan and then...He kinda murdered me. :V Still, while it's a really solid port, the game chugged a bit on one boss (Mama Gurdy's orange projectile vomit
) and it doesn't have some of the PC version's graphical effects (no pixelated transition between floors, or the flash of light when you eat a pill). You can also apparently "Sync" your progress, possibly between you PS4 and Vita? I'll have to try that sometime.
I also looked up some Hard Mode info, the good thing is that you don't need to play Hard Mode to get any special items (AFAIK), but beating each of the goals with each character on Hard gives you more achievements/trophies.
I am kinda sad you can't go past the 12-heart limit now, but then again, with stuff like Placenta, Fanny Pack, Leech and the Empty Bottle Raikaria mentioned
, you don't quite need it.
Also, if you find the mask known as Infamy, pick it up. It gives you a chance to negate damage when you get hit.
The Habit isn't nearly as broken as it was in the past (it only seems to charge up one bar per hit instead of three), but it's still worth grabbing.
Has anyone tried to access the "100+ specialized seeds" yet? Maybe we should start up a list of useful seeds that contain certain items/bosses/etc.
-
EVERYTHING IS BEAUTIFUL (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=337428688)
Also I forgot even in the original (well, in WotL) a lot of the challenges only went up to Mom in the first place, not the Heart. So even without the clears on challenges being my first/second clears they probably wouldn't go further :V
-
Actually I saw someone play a challenge mode that went past the heart into the cathedral :V
-
Actually I saw someone play a challenge mode that went past the heart into the cathedral :V
Yeah it's always been a case-by-case thing IIRC.
-
Actually I saw someone play a challenge mode that went past the heart into the cathedral :V
I just did a Cathedral run on my Vita, actually! And I'm pleased to say that Isaac has been completely overhauled. He doesn't counterattack, and he uses a lot more danmaku attacks. The second phase has him summon angel babies instead of his last, and on his final phase, he MOVES and rains down laser beams in a wave-like attack (you can usually avoid the attacks by sticking to the corners, though).
A very fun fight, and I look forward to defeating him
again in future runs. :D
Also, a couple more items: Holy Shield lets you take one hit per room, and there's an NES cart that lets you jump. And it's infinite uses. You can even jump over rocks and pits, I dunno if it'll protect you from bullets though.
I personally really liked this run, so I'll share the seed with you guys: ATXH HG0X (not sure if that's a zero or an O but I'm assuming it's a zero judging by its shape)
-
Also, a couple more items: Holy Shield lets you take one hit per room, and there's an NES cart that lets you jump. And it's infinite uses. You can even jump over rocks and pits, I dunno if it'll protect you from bullets though.
Holy Shield is too good of an item
Anyway beat Satan on my second run after going into the secret shop (?) and skipping directly into Sheol and destroying everything with Holy Shield + Splash tears + 99x Butt Bomb and Bob's brain (which takes on bomb modifiers too)
Also holy shit the Mom gauntlet
-
I also looked up some Hard Mode info, the good thing is that you don't need to play Hard Mode to get any special items (AFAIK), but beating each of the goals with each character on Hard gives you more achievements/trophies.
Let me be frank about that: Thank fucking god
I've been playing Hard and watching Normal videos and I'm pretty sure that I'm familiar with what the changes are:
* Lots more champion enemies. LOTS. Oftentimes 1/3rd to 1/2 of the room's enemies will be champions. They're also no longer guaranteed to drop items
* Bosses are no longer guaranteed to drop hearts on defeat
* Clearing rooms has a massively reduced item drop rate - I've got the entirity of the Caves II without seeing a single heart, key, bomb, etc.
There's a point at which the challenge is fun and there's a point at which it's just not and almost never having enough keys to even open treasure rooms isn't fun nevermind everything else.
EDIT: One of the secret seeds has been found. BASEMENT
causes every single floor to be the Basement. Supposedly forever but who knows.
-
But Hardmode gives you cool red borders around your clear-icons!
Initially I thought Hard was just what "Everything is terrible" used to be but then I got "Everything is terrible" :V
And I love that Technology and Brimstone interact with more items.
Brimstone + Anti-Grav tears + reverse homing
is just hilarious.
Also Mamizou's Tail Gnawed Leaf in combination with the Pinking Shears (or anything that attacks on its own really) is silly.
Pinking Shears got a really huge damage boosts it seems.
-
Good Hard Mode runs feel great, sure, but by and large they're kind of just a pain in the ass
that said I just cleared the boss rush on hard because of +damage items and a late Brimstone 8D
And then went Guppy mode again and whooped the final boss even without any HP
also the best goddamn item description in the game (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=337540968)
EDIT: And then I beat Stan because Azazel and the first thing I found was Li'l Brimstone. DOUBLE BRIMSTONE? WHAT DOES IT MEANNNN
.
-
It's so easy to break the game with Azazel. :V
Just grab Tammy's head and maybe 1 damage up and one-shot everything.
Also, I want to find Ipecac because it was awesome in the original. (I did already unlock it.)

The Habit isn't nearly as broken as it was in the past (it only seems to charge up one bar per hit instead of three), but it's still worth grabbing.
While the Habit is not as powerful, the way it works now make its synergy with items that only need one charge like Tammy's Head better.
Actually I saw someone play a challenge mode that went past the heart into the cathedral :V
My guess is that all the initial challenges go up to Mom. As you clear (and maybe unluck?) stuff, more of them will appear.
EVERYTHING IS BEAUTIFUL (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=337428688)
TAMMY'S HEAD OP, PLEASE NERF!
Anyone saw the Dark Bum item? It's like Bum Friend but instead the Dark Bum will grab hearts and trade them for Soul Heart.
A top tier item IMHO and and a must for Azazel.
-
Dark Bum
also only drops the soul hearts when it is near you, so it can trade red hearts in unreachable areas and effectively ferry them to you
-
A must for Azaz? He can get HP Ups.
Blue Baby is where it's at.
-
He's a must for absolutely everyone, really.
Right now it doesn't seem to be chance based - it seems that every full heart worth of HP he collects becomes a spirit heart.
It's ridiculous and borderline game breaking because it effectively means there's only spirit heart drops
.
-
rofl one of the special seeds is KAPPA :V
-
Eve isn't as bad now! Whore of Babylon activates at 1 full heart instead of 1 half heart.
I'm wondering, does the Polaroid activate at 1 full heart too, now that we know this is the case? Well, I mean when a hit brings you down to 1 red heart, not just a red half heart.
Also, just for fun, I want to know what all the horoscope signs do. So far I've seen:
Aquarius: tear trail
Virgo: Random protective shield on hit
Libra (my sign! sucks to be a useless item...): Balances stats
Scorpio: Poison tears
-
Hmm, while we're on the subject of broken item combos...I just went full Guppy in a Normal Isaac run, I also collected
Guppy's Collar
and The Ankh earlier and killed Mom's Heart. What makes this run interesting was that I was pretty much at one heart when I reached the Heart, but when I died...I came back to life. I dunno if Guppy has a 9 Lives effect too, but I kept coming back each time I died so...Go me. :D
I also started unlocking Runes after completing a few of the challenges, does anyone have an idea of what these do?
-
Guppy's
Collar seems to randomly resurrect you. I've had it bring me back to life twice once and another time not do anything at all. It also seems to resurrect you with 1/2 heart but doesn't take away your containers.
about the Zodiac signs:
Aries: You can run into enemies to damage them. It's kinda like Unicorn Horn without the invincibility.
Taurus: takes away some of your movement speed but while "in combat" you ramp up speed for some time and then gain the Unicorn Horn effect. Don't know if it can happen more than once per room.
Gemini: Gives you a Gemini-familiar. Acts like a chain chomp.
Cancer: Gives you 3 Soul Hearts?
Leo: Slows you down but you can destroy objects by walking over them.
Sagittarius: Piercing Tears, Tears up
Capricorn = Halo
Pisces: Increases knockback on tears, maybe other effects ?
Since Shot Speed and Luck are now actual stats that are shown among the others, are they also affected by items that increase all stats? It never really looks like it from the pause screen but Luck especially increases really slowly so it's not all that clear.
-
One more I've gotten out of the zodiac signs:
Aquarius: you trail holy water
Also I ran into a weird room behind double locks (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=337926039) that seemed to reshuffle all my items? I know I left with a Technology (not sure which one) and Spoon Bender I didn't have before that and lost a bunch of other passives (I was basically swimming in drops from a ton of doublers lol :V).
-
With regards to the zodiac signs,
Are people sure Libra actually balances stats? I forgot to check my stats the one time I saw it; but I did notice it actually gave me 6 of each consumable.
-
It definitely does something to your stats.
I picked it up while I had Polyphemus and it pretty much removed the effect but afterwords I was faster, still had more damage than before Poly but no longer the low tear rate.
-

That room is really confusing. Sometimes I step on the die decoration, and nothing seems to happen (both times showing a 3-pip die), but one time, my entire item list was shuffled (with a 1-pip die). And this was in the Caves, so I had a LOT of items.
Tiny planet + soy milk is insane.
-
The die room does different effects depending on what number is showing.
One and six reshuffle your items, three (I think) reshuffles pickups on the floor, and I haven't encountered the others first hand
Also Trinity Shield trivalises the boss fights
-
First run of Rebirth, and I had defeated Mom. The thing that I regret the most though was the fact that the run had to stop there. Chocolate Milk, Monstro's Gut, Polyphemus, and one or two damage boosters just kinda breaks everything. Mom didn't stand a chance, it took all of one shot to finish her off.(http://i.somethingawful.com/forumsystem/emoticons/emot-black101.gif)
Well, can't wait to attempt real runs later today. This game is like drugs.
-
Literally died one room from Mom's Heart.
The catch?
Somehow I made it that far without a single damage upgrade until Womb 1 [Cat of 9 Tails].
I Got Number One, followed by a Range Up, followed by ANOTHER Range Up, followed by 3 Dollar Bill, and then Mom's Perfume.
Number 1 with range, a chance to fear and whatever hilarious things 3 Dollar gives me? That was fun. Also I had Butt Bombs. It's like I had a 1,2,3 combo going!
-
I started to clear some of the challenges.
The first one, Pitch Black was surprisingly hard as you have to go to Mom while Curse if Darkness is always on.
Curse of darkness apply a darkness effect, making sometime stuff hard to see.
more importantly, you can't see your HPs, something that messed me up a lot. X D
On top of that, you don't have access to shops. You might not think much of it but it means less upgrades availables and much more trouble to make good use of your money.
Challenge usually ban access to item room instead.
In the end, I had to get carried by Little Brimstone
to succeed. ^^;;;
Second ones was High Brow which is basically a challenge with Number One and a bunch of poop items and fart bombs
.
Third one is Head Trauma which basically make you a Touhou character. :P
For extra lolz, I got Cancer somewhere in there. :V
You start with max tears and range but it's seems you can't raise your attack power in this challenge.
I don't know if it's a limitation of the items you start with or if it's something enforced by the challenge itself.
The Fifth Challenge is the Tank
which is unlocked by unlocking Maggie.
Said challenge give you an ultra defensive build and the ability to break rock by going through them.
The biggest issue is the lack of speed so get a speed upgrade asap. Otherwise, the challenge is not too hard.
The Sixth Challence is Solar System in which you fly and have a bunch of flies that accompagn you.
You can't shoot tears so you have to use flies and bombs to do the job.
On the other hand, all to regular flies you meet are transformed in friendly blue flies.
I wasn't able to beat that challenge yet due to it being quite different from the rest.
Also, this one requires you to beat Mom's Heart. @-@
I think I will come back to this one later. ^^;;;
The Tenth challenge is Cursed! which you need to unlock Maggie (and perhaps the Blue Map
as well) to access and for good reason :
]the whole game is under the effect of Curse of Curse which put spike doors on... well about mostly every door.
To make up for this, you start with full map, Child heart and Yum Heart.
Are you able to make your way to mom in a single piece? : P
Will you choose to skip many treasure room and shops? >:D
Also, while you can find Trinkets and Space Bar items, you might not be willing to trade them away. X D
That being sad, I traded Yum Heart for Guppy Paw which in the end gave me enough life to last that ordeal.
Pro tip : you might want to use some bombs to go through secret room, saving some life in the process.
The twelth challenge is When Life Give You Lemons. Basically, it's a Lemon Mishap (spelling?) challenge.
That item was buffed compared to the original version of the game so it's not that hard of a challenge, especially since you can spam it.
That being said, I met more flying enemies that I would have like to. X D
Some of the items unlocked by the challenges are unes
which are a "Q" item like Tarot cards.
I got to try 2 of those. One apparently have the Showel effect and the other seems to double all of the items on the ground.[
-
Just had two really good runs with Magdalene and Eden. Maybe I was lucky, but everything was trivial after a few floors.
Meanwhile I still have the worst time simply playing as Isaac. :v
-
Currently have four challenges done: Head Trauma, The Tank, Cursed, and Computer Savvy. I found Computer Savvy incredibly enjoyable due to the fact that
you had to manipulate the lasers to deal the most damage.
I nearly choked at the end, where I had two hearts as my max health, and I went down to half a heart. I barely won (as in Mom was about to crush me when she died).
For Cursed, I had went for the item rooms at first, and any mini-bosses along the way. Also made all the deals with the devil, because you really have the hearts to spare for the most part. Once I got a few good items, the rest of the run really was simple.
The other two aren't notable, though The Tank is possibly one of the slowest playthroughs you're going to have, and the only reason I beat Head Trauma is because I managed to find two damage up weapons inside the I AM ERROR room
.
In the normal game, defeated Satan recently. 5:2 ratio (five deaths total, two victories, though one against mom) is occurring, though I doubt I'll be lucky enough to keep it reasonable.
-

Yeah, Maggy's been really lucky for me for some reason, I dunno why. Then again, I can't complain when I have like eight hearts, a Converter and the Spirit of the Night. :D
A warning to all those who have the PS4 and Vita versions: The File Sync feature is bugged and you're advised to not use it until the update comes out (which should be tomorrow).
-
Even if you can't unlock stuff off seeded runs I should start writing them down for especially hilarious ones. Still worth sharing the love.
Have a seed I got from someone else (only really hilarious with Azazel): ZBNN 3ZYP
OKAY THIS ONE'S ACTUALLY MINE (extra hilarious with Azazel but should be great on anyone): SQH7 MGMM
-

OH MY GOD I JUST DID THAT FIRST ONE THERE
That was fantastic ahahahahahah. Ludovico Technique'd Brimstone is probably the most broken, OP thing in the entire game. I beat Satan in literally seconds
-
Oh, man. Finally beat Mom for the first time on my 12th try. I expected hard with this being rogue-like and all, but... Or i just suck at this.
-

Well you know, not everyone start great. I mean, just look at this dude (http://youtu.be/c5PLC6nmOO4).
Oh, I was wondering, just for fun I was trying to enter random characters as seed but they failed. Is it normal? X D
I wonder if only some strings of text count as seeds or if I need to unlock more items to access them? X D
-
I saw on a stream someone with Monstero's Lung and Parasite and Quad Shot. He had a few other effects too but IDK what they were.
Quad Shot was arguably a downgrade because the fire rate was ungodly slow with it, whereas before it was actually pretty fast.
Still, it was a shotgun.
Also I tried some challenges. Almost did Pitch Black but died to Mom. Then I gave Head Trauma a few tries I got an Anarchist's Cookbook from Pride. Used it in the next room, and it revealed one of those Zelda Staircases. In a normal room. Considering only Fetus items, IPACAC, and Cookbook would reveal it in those senarioes... Coookbook is usefulish now?
Also in that room was a Loop Worm. This made my Tiny Planet shots just go insane and scatter over about half the screen in 4 smaller, very chaotic, rings.
===
> Plays Cain for the first time in Rebirth
> First item: PHD
IT'S LIKE OLD TIMES.
AND I BEAT MOM'S HEART
MVPs of the run were Cricket's Head [Which I only got because of a Golden Key], and the PHD which gave me a Full Health pill which I literally carried from Caves to the Heart. I honestly didn't get much else except HP ups, and even when I cleared bosses with 0 damage [Such as Monstero on Basement 2] I got no useful deals with the devil.
Picked up an early Guppy's Paw which did nothing except get re-rolled by a 4 Dice Room into Rainbow Baby :V
-
Man, one of the worst rebalances is that
Cain can get bad pills
. I'm used to taking any and all pills immediately.
-
Man, one of the worst rebalances is that Cain can get bad pills

That's because Luck Foot actually effects the Luck Stat which does something now. Cain gets more consumables dropping, and gets better payouts on gambleing [Well he did before]. I actually got a 2nd luck up item during my run and it was insane. I was literally swimming in keys, money and bombs.
Although aforementioned run I had which instantly gave me PHD on Cain. That was funny. And my first ever Heart kill.
Speaking of Pills I'm sure Pill mechanics have changed. Pill pools seem FAR larger now and I swear sometimes two pills which look the same have different powers, or a pill will have the same effect on 2 coulors. [I've seen 2 different I've Seen Everythings in one run, and unless Amnesia is the negative form of it, which it might be...]

There are just a lot more types of pills. One confusing pair is color/white compared to color/speckled.
I've Seen Everything just opens up secret rooms for that floor. Very handy, but it's not exactly comparable to Amnesia's bad effect. I though PhD only identified pills and didn't invert bad effects, anyway.
One pill I found was surprisingly useful was Lemon Party. It covers nearly the entirety of a normal room and it's great for bosses.
-
My turn for an amusing seed, this one I got with Samson: 21T6 MFQS
The first several floors with fine, it seems that Samson's Blood Lust item lasts for the entire floor instead of just one room. I steadily upped my attack and tears (thanks to a lucky PHD), then I got to the Womb...I stepped on the dice panel there and got chargeable, flaming, bouncing tears, plus a familiar that fired brimstone lasers. Oh, and both the bomb fly and bob's brain familiars. XD This plus Holy Shield and The Relic made me pretty much unstoppable. The only sad thing is that neither an Angel nor Devil room spawned, so no Satan/Isaac kill for Samson yet. :V
-
I really wish I actually got the seed I had, because I found out that if you're Azazel and you get Quad Shot, you've won already. No, you don't get four lasers coming from all directions of you. All four lasers are just stacked ontop of each other. The entire run (including the boss rush and Mom's Heart) took under twenty minutes. No deals with the devil were struck, and only two items that power up your strength were gotten. When you stop caring about damage, then you know what it's like to be Azazel.
-
No, you don't get four lasers coming from all directions of you.
That one does exist though; Loki's Horns
. Looks fun as hell.
-
Triple homing brimstone is amazing. I love it.
Gave a seed to my friend, and told him to skip the Brimstone and run with Monstro's Lung + Ipecac. Equally potent.
-
I just had a run where I got my 2nd Heart kill [As Issac this time].
Quad Shot + Cursed Eye + 20/20 = SHOTGUN. It got upgraded to a semi-automatic shotgun when I found a Tears Up item. Also had Guppy's Head and the Pentagram so my damage was alright.
I also unlocked Sampson.
-
Challenge 13 is beans.
I'm going through the challenges and Nr.7 has to be the best thing ever. Barely didn't manage to complete it though.
Cursed Eye
I avoid picking this up most of the time because it has a chance to randomly warp you around when taking a hit. Messed me up a few times. :V
But if you can ensure heavy hits with it then I guess it's alright. Or with some sort of invincibility. (Book of Shadows comes to mind.)
-

I keep forgetting what it is.
Still; Quad Shot + 20/20 + Cursed Eye. That shotgun is not something you pass up. Although it did screw me twice against The Gate.
-
Cursed Eye is like a horrible run ender to me, the chance feels like it's 75% to get warped on hit so if you aren't overwhelmingly strong then bosses can be nearly impossible. The charge effect isn't even all that great imo, I had really high Tears when I got it and I really think optimal charge shooting was LESS than I was shooting before, for a lot more input pain. (If you have quad shot+20/20 it might be ridiculously gigantic enough to be good, but even then not worth the warps)
The Solar System challenge is a nightmare if you don't get, like, mini brimstone. :C Some bosses are nearly run-enders if you get them just because getting close is ultra-doom (Don't even want to think about Mom/Mom's Heart; bible plzzzzzzz) I also regret ever unlocking Necropolis, dear mother of jesus it double-spawns on like all of my challenges and it's awful.
-
I keep forgetting what it is.
13 is "Beans!" and starts you with 99 bombs, Butt bombs, Black Bean, 9 Volt, that Space-Bar Bean and the inability to shoot.
I got Clubs card halfway through that put me back to 99 bombs, Brother Bobby + BFF and replaced the Bean with Guppy's Head. :V I ended the run with 8 bombs because hitting Red Mom with bombs is nearly impossible.
7 is "Suicide King where you have Mr. Mega, my reflection & Ipecac. You have to beat Satan.
On a side-note: It's possible to pause buffer the game. Frame perfect glitches incoming? :V
-
Beat Solar System because I got the bible for free mom/mom's heart kill, Holy Mantle for a negated hit every room, and a full health pill multiple times (including utero 2), I probably would have been doomed if all of that hadn't happened. XD
-
I beat
boss Rush
as Issac.
Nothing special; just some damage ups; lil'Brim; Pyromaniac [The heal on explosions thing] and Thin Odd Mushroom+Toothpicks [Which seem to ber showing up every run]
Got the Peeper from it. Then beat Mom's Heart.
Also unlocked Eve. Just Judas, Blue Baby and ... something else that is a spoiler to unlock.
-
And i am still struggling to beat the Heart for the first time. Halfway through the fight it goes all bullet hell on me and i always die. Any tips?
-
And i am still struggling to beat the Heart for the first time. Halfway through the fight it goes all bullet hell on me and i always die. Any tips?
1: Pretend it is Touhou. Most of the bullet hell attacks are actually easily avoidable by tiny sidesteps. Think of it as streaming.
2: Kill summons ASAP, streaming while fighting adds is basically impossible. Heart and Adds both deal the same damage.
3: Try to go in with Spirit Hearts/Good HP. Every run where I have beaten the Heart I have not reached it having spent anything more than 2 Heart Containers on Devil Deals.
-
Some of the heart's bullet hell phases are a lot better to dodge from the sides instead of the bottom, too, because it gives you more room. And yes, kill summons quickly.
-
If you have unlocked the
Book of Secrets
, you can give it a try with this seed :
qyzm
g8bh
It should be on the first floor treasure room.
If you have not unlocked it, you'll get Brother Bobby instead. :V
-
The
Book of Secrets
isn't all that interesting anyway, it just reveals a random aspect of your map when you use it.
-
Finally had my first death with Azazel. Turns out that
Anti-Gravity Tears mixed with the Brimstone looks really cool, but isn't very practical.
Oh well, it was a nice six win streak anyways.
-
The BASEMENT seed is way too amusing.
The game starts breaking after a while though. :V Very soon all pills were replaced with Tarot Cards, after a while my familiars were mostly gone and some things malfunctioned like Taurus being active 90% of the time and even through different rooms.
Also, every item was Rotten Milk at around Basement 50. Except for the Devil Deals, which I avoided to get Angel Rooms. :V
The best thing must have been the Remote Controlled Tooth-Tears with a ton of tear-effects. It was one big tooth that got bigger the closer it came to me, was flashing different colors and had three smaller teeth orbiting it that were flashing too.
-
Also it appears when you have fifty or so spiders on screen and a fuck ton of other minions, you start to have trouble getting through doors, opening chests, or picking up other items.
Though I'm confused on how every item for you was Rotten Milk around that floor. For me, I was still getting varying items. I also took literally every devil deal. It was glorious. >:D
-
Hoooooly shit that was a fun run. Did it with Eve and it was looking pretty horrid at first but I won. (http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/543009519705469353/3049A26D38A7C0EEF18EBF0E5C277B7BAED83AB7/)
I have never made it to or even seen The Cathedral
before and I beat it before ever beating Sheol, too.
Also: A fun combo is Pyro (99 bombs), Lucky Rock (rocks always drop coins), and Magic Fingers (uses a coin to damage every thing on screen). You'll pretty much be able to use it nonstop!
Seed is FM1R T92V. Screenshot showing everything I obtained in the run. (http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/543009519705468018/7F942FCAE1A8A5FDEB706CB116F901ECCDF63A63/) You start out REALLY weak at first and then you get Daddy Longlegs and some items that basically make you a huge short range high speed splash bomb. Not strong by any means but fun as hell. Isaac is almost like a Touhou boss, holy shit.
-
Though I'm confused on how every item for you was Rotten Milk around that floor. For me, I was still getting varying items. I also took literally every devil deal. It was glorious. >:D
I have no clue either, since there some items I definitely didn't pick up from the bosses. I had the "more options" thing so I had to not pick up some things but maybe those get taken out of the item-pool too.
Or it was just the game breaking from abuse. :V
-
Also I learned (from reading, not from getting it yet myself sadly) how special seeds are getting found so quickly -
one of the new card drops (Rules Card unlocked from challenge #11) apparently tells a special seed on use, among other fortune machine-y cryptic shit
.
-
So I just tried Azazel for the first time, and get a Guppy transformation and some damage (mostly via Whore of Babylon).
Satan's third for stomps me once and instantly dies to about 20 attack flies :justasplanned:
-

Huh, that's pretty neat. I'll have to give it a shot, then.
I just beat The Cathedral
with Blue Baby not too long ago. Was originally just gonna kill Mom's Heart but then the Angel Room opened up and I was all like "well, it's go for it!" I tore the place up, though I ended up stumbling around for a good while because of Curse of the Lost. >.< Proptosis is probably my new favorite damage upgrade, it's just so powerful without most of the drawbacks of stuff like Polythemus or Third Eye, even at long range. I really tried to go for a no-damage run on Isaac
but it was ruined by his wave of light pillars of death and doom. :(
I still won with plenty of health, though (and I even got Mama's Boy somehow). :V Maybe it is I that needs to be nerfed...! Or start playing Isaac on PC again. I love the Vita version too much for some reason.
Speaking of OP... Isaac now holds the D6!
Maybe I'll get started on Hard Mode now...After I do a couple more challenges first.
-
I really tried to go for a no-damage run on Isaac
but it was ruined by his wave of light pillars of death and doom. :(
I noticed that in most cases, the corner opposite from when those start is generally a safe spot.
-
I noticed that in most cases, the corner opposite from when those start is generally a safe spot.
Yeah, but it doesn't always work...But oh well, there's no "Church Boy"
achievement so it's not a big deal if I take a hit or two.
-
Here's a seed for all you people who want to have a fun, max damage by basement 2 run: XMN9 C7MS
Not joking. Floor 1 item is robo-baby and Experimental Treatment (if unlocked) after the boss, Basement 2 has Magic Mushroom in the item room and the Halo as prize for the boss room. If you get the devil room to show up, you'll find the Mark in there.
Later item rooms include triple shot and the wafer
. You'll also run into ridiculous amounts of luck up pills and cash.
Played as Azazel, murdered the boss rush and Satan running on only 2 heart containers. Feels good to twoshot Satan's final form.
-
Sometimes i have bad runs, sometimes i have good runs, sometimes i beat Mom without taking damage and die on the next floor. And sometimes i get something very... special. ROLE 6EEX. Item pickups from item rooms and bosses are mandatory. Just try to clear it. I dare you.
P.S. Still haven't beaten the Heart.
-

"What is this horrible creature?" :V
-
Well The Lost is fucking impossible to unlock.
Do Mullibooms even exist.
In case anyone else wants to unlock this super secret character:
1. Die from a Mulliboom as Isaac on Basement/Cellar
2. Die from bombing yourself as Magdalene on Caves or equivalent.
3. Die from being stomped on by Mom's Foot as Judas.
4. Die to second stage Satan (lasers and bullets) as Azazel.
All in one sitting, no other deaths in between. Resetting runs is okay as long as you do it before the death screen. You can also die technically, but you must instantly pause and reset before the death screen appears.
As for The Lost itself, you have no HP, so any one hit is death. You cannot gain additional health in any way (not even evil/soul hearts). However deals with the devils are free and you start with flight
-

P.S. Still haven't beaten the Heart.
Normally that run is a horrible mess of not being able to kill anything.
I tried it with Azazel. In short - total success.
A bit longer explanation:
Starting short-range Brimstone + Gravity Bullets (first treasure room) = Circle Laser. Which is quite handy.
Starting short-range Brimstone + Gravity Bullets + Boomerang Bullets + Tammy's Head = A Sphere of Murderdeath that one-shots anything. Mom. The Gate. Mom's Heart. Anything. And it can be used once per room.
Whoa.
-
Well The Lost is fucking impossible to unlock.
Do Mullibooms even exist.
More common in the Cellar, and I've heard they only do half a heart of damage, so if you see them you'll likely want to bomb the door out of the room (isaac starts with a bomb) and damage yourself before walking back in.
Thankfully the next two aren't very hard at all and Azazel is probably the best to have to get that far in the game with.
Also, as a warning; I hear you can't unlock that before you beat The Dark Room
, which for those who don't want to risk reading can rest assured if they didn't obtain a not-mom-heart-unlock ending that wasn't in the original game they haven't done so.
-
Am I the only person who can't play Azazel to save their life?
I'm awful at close range fighting in Issac, and unless you get one of a selection of items you stay CQC, which is practically a death sentence against Heart and bosses after that.
He's great early but he's kinda a disc one nuke because of his very limited range imo. I haven't even beaten Mom with him, while I'm pretty reliably beating her with Cain/Issac now, and Issac doesn't have the D6 yet.
-
Play Azazel as a drive-by death bus. His range is also pretty decent as you can just hit enemies with the end of the brimstone.
-
So about those unlock conditions... how the fuck were you supposed to figure that out. No, really.
Am I the only person who can't play Azazel to save their life?

He's great early but he's kinda a disc one nuke because of his very limited range imo. I haven't even beaten Mom with him, while I'm pretty reliably beating her with Cain/Issac now, and Issac doesn't have the D6 yet.
There are certain enemies that are absolutely dangerous as Azazel. The main thing about him though is he's got so much power that things don't live long enough to do serious damage to him.
Play Azazel as a drive-by death bus.
this is the best description of him I've heard
-
So about those unlock conditions... how the fuck were you supposed to figure that out. No, really.
If you die in the sacrifice room holding certain trinkets you get puzzle pieces. Put them together (over many, many deaths; obviously intended to be a long-term group effort over the whole of the interwebs) and you piece together 4 death notes depicting these deaths, presumably with the order to do them in.
In the age of mass internet information it's not that unreasonable, actually. Kinda neat. But then someone just hacked the game's assembly to figure out what to do whilst people were collecting pieces...
Meanwhile HMMM I WONDER WHAT I WANT?

Curse of the blind sucks.
At any rate, how much money have you guys poured into your donation machines? I'm sitting somewhere at 250+.

At any rate, how much money have you guys poured into your donation machines? I'm sitting somewhere at 250+.
Same, actually.
Character balance is pretty good. Eve and Samson are actually good characters now. Azazel is crazy strong, though. Cain might have taken the nerf bat a bit too hard (lost good pills -and- his extra damage but didn't really get anything back), but I hear he gets lots of drops due to luck foot (I've only used him once so far)
Eve can activate her curse at 1 max heart (and it might be stronger, too; it feels pretty strong!) so she's basically the "spam devil deals character" and with just a -little- luck she can be REALLY strong without many upgrades, although you have to be good at dodging (or get demon bum/nail/etc). Samson's blood lust now raises your damage for each hit you take, and lasts for the whole floor, instead of when killing enemies in a single room; this makes it a fairly stable damage up.
-
The deal with Cain is that Luck Foot lost its free auto-good-pills. But now Lucky Foot actually increases Luck, a stat that actually does things in the game this time.
But yeah. I feel like Lazarus is the character who's not really that good - and even then he's basically an enhanced Isaac until the d6 becomes a thing.
-
Cain was also really good for having extra starting damage before, but he lost that too.
Lazarus is alright, his resurrection also includes a damage up; it doesn't seem to do anything with no upgrades, but if you get any damage upgrades his power shoots way up. This is pretty situational though. If you want him to be good you'd probably want to spam devil deals on 1~2F and die, and hopefully get an HP up or two after reviving. He's probably the worst of the bunch though, unless you don't like Cain/Maggy. (Maggy at least gets more hearts for devil deals, but lazarus kinda does that too, she's in a weird spot where it depends almost entirely on how you value yum heart, which can be really good or kinda useless)
edit:...I keep beating boss rush, being totally powerful and awesome, and then making minor mistakes in random womb fights constantly until I die. I have 7 mom kills but have beaten boss rush with everyone but Isaac. ;_; I should be done with mom kills by now.
-
YOLO a Curse Room as Blue Baby, two red chests+one stone, pop Goat Head and a super troll bomb which I guide into the stone chest for a Hanged Man card. And then consider this:
YA DONE GOOFED, GAME.
-
At... least you have Hanged Man so you can get it?
-
fuuuuuuuuuuck everythiiiiiiiiiiiing (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=340027452) (I even had Coal and that's apparently the best thing for Head Trauma outside of a reroll room ;_;)
EDIT: OH GOD NOW I REALIZED HOW TO DO IT.
-
I now realize the mistake in picking up the soy milk as Azazel. Because of this mistake, I lost on the first floor of The Womb (but somehow managed to make it through the Boss Rush). Well, time to never pick that up as Azazel ever again!
Pros
-Crazy fast recharge. Hold the key down for half a second and you have a fully charged laser.
Cons
-Everything else.
-
Soy Milk really can only be good if you pick it up on floor 1 or 2 (with Eve).
You definitely need some heavy damage ups afterwords but if you get those then you have some dangerous weapons on you.
-
Welp, so you know how the broken stopwatch shop item randomly permaslows a room (not you, but all the enemies)
It permaslowed the boss rush room. For those not familiar with slow, the enemies move at slug speed (literally the speed of the harmless ingame slugs, more or less) and all their bullets are similarly slowed, but still fall as fast, aka they barely go anywhere. Pretty much the only way you could possibly get hit is by enemies with brimstone or damaging floor effects (esp. carrion queen's red poop) but it's still really a free win. An incredibly free win.
You could even do it as The Lost, if you were godly enough to make it that far in under 20 minutes.
-
But do be careful with the broken watch as it also can do the exact reverse.
But to be fair, Red Mom at two times speed is actually amusing.
It also affects the music while it is active.
-
I had quite a good run as Cain and somehow unlocked Magdalene on this run. At Uterus 2 i found a dice room and the game transformed Cain into
Lord of the Flies. And turns out the thing is really really hax. The Heart died with me more or less lazily dodging bullets due to it being slowed most of the time and mashing attack button.
-
...if you get two eternal hearts as Blue Baby you get a real, red heart container.
But it also makes it not count as a blue baby clear, because I won, and didn't get any of his unlocks, clear notes on the page, d6 for isaac, etc. No. No. Noooooooooooo. ;_; I didn't even need that container... wah ;_;
-
You can do Boss Rush easily with The Lost because of the nine lives bug
-
You can do everything easily with The Lost because of the nine lives bug
fixed that for you :V
-
it hurts so much to have a godly build as Blue Baby and then screw up enough in any area past Womb to die anyway (because they're hard as balls unless you're azazel with ludivico)
Max damage, double tears (from 20/20), piercing, really high tears rate, demon bum to reach max soul hearts, krampus head for insane damage every couple rooms, you name it
but I died in sheol anyway ;_; Because it's so hard to get through those rooms without taking a hit from something first, and all hits deal a full heart... OW. And then I panicked on Satan because nerves. QQ
-
Earlier I had the Bible in the Head Trauma challenge but got attritioned out in Depths II not getting any health to drop. :V
-
I looked at the bean challenge and tried it. I think I will pass on this one for now. X D
The Doctor Fetus Challenge is harder than it looks. You would think I would get a bomb upgrade at someone point somewhere unless...
Wait a minute, aren't those usually gotten in treasure room? How evil! X D
I managed to clear the Guppy challenge. Things like Bob Brain and an helper helped to make up for the inability to shoot.
Also, Krampus Head
can actually help you generate a ton of attack flies. X D
I manage to clear the card challenge as well. Cards Against Humanity
+ the Petrified Poop made me stupidly rich on first floor! 2 of Diamond afterward was overkill! X D
Dark Bum
helped me stay healthy.
Getting a Sun card during the mom fight didn't hurt either. :P
...maybe I should get those couple womb ending I am missing. X D
Oh by the way, I got to see some hole that had a ladder in them. I mean, like a end level to the next floor hole but with a ladder.
Should you find one, I suggest you to check it out, it's neat. Why? I am not telling. :P
-
Oh by the way, I got to see some hole that had a ladder in them.
Oh yeah, I saw a few of those...Hard as balls to find, I don't think they're under blue rocks.
Speaking of hard as balls...I FINALLY BEAT SATAN FOR THE FIRST TIME! :D I also discovered the awesomeness of flaming tears. I oddly enough had the items for a soul heart ruin (Relic, Dark Bum, even had a Book of Revelations spawn but I didn't pick up for some reason ???) but I ended up with more red hearts than I knew what to do with.
Maybe I'll try unlocking The Lost
next...Might be annoying as hell but I refuse to back down from completing this game!
-
Beat Satan for the first time.
66HF PC11
Walk to the right -> Get Dark Bum. That's all.
-
Recently beat Isaac with Azazel. Ironically, I found the second (or third?) phase of the fight easier than the first, as just staying in the corners for the light beam attack seems to keep you safe. It's a good thing too, I was at half a heart!
-
every time i see bullet hell patterns in this game i cant help but think of sapz's signature :derp:
-
Congratulations guys for you first time wins. ^^
I managed to unlock It Lives
then a few challenges appeared which is a very bad sign. ^^;;;
I also unlocked Blue Baby
and died again and again until I managed to get a run where a fortune teller device got super generous and gave me a ton of soul heart and a rosary which I suspect helped.
Getting Spirit of the Night and Infamy was a big boon. I managed to beat the cathedral
despite having something like 4 hearts for the boss battle.
I also have unlocked the D6. ^^
-
For those trying to unlock the super secret hidden character:
You can seed the first three runs; only the last one needs to be unseeded. There's some good ones offered here (http://www.reddit.com/r/bindingofisaac/comments/2m1yrq/hidden_character_helpful_seeds/)
-
I died in Womb II, sadly, but this seed was pretty fun: 79GQ WD2S
ipecac + triple shot
. I was Eve, not sure if your character choice affects the RNG from there, but I ended up not even really needing Whore of Babylon by pretty early in.
-
Dead Boy get. Judas run on Normal, got an early Experimental Treatment that actually boosted my attack, and then added Parasite, Monstro's Lung, and some tears up. Eventually added Guppy and bouncing shots from the
Dark Room
chests, and killed The Lamb
in three shots, One for the first form, one for the head, and one for the body

Dang, that guy's a tank, impressive.
I just beat that with Isaac on Hard Mode using a... fairly non special and non-overpowered setup, actually, which was very surprising and interesting, and a heartpumping fight I won with half a heart remaining. What I had going for me was The Wafer (the one awesome thing I had, all damage is half a heart) paired with only decent tears, supplemented by the awesome Tech .5 and a very necessary Emperor card; it's worth it to beat those challenges, most of the stuff you get (like tech .5) is great.
For that matter, everyone unlocks a follower baby shooter thing for beating Mom's Heart on Hard Mode- with one for every character, I'm wondering how often they'll pop up in the item rooms... but yeah, you do get something for doing Hard Mode other than shiny red clear stamps! Thank god you don't have to beat more than that, though... the only changes seem to be fewer drops, a bit more champions, and slightly harder room layouts, but you really do get ALMOST NO DROPS AT ALL. Very very little money, bombs, keys (nooo the item rooms!) or hearts. The Lost has a full set of unlocks by the way. Dear god. I hope they aren't upgrades in the item list. Or that if they are, they're hidden ones at the end.
I don't know why I did it with blue baby first but at least I got that out of the way. *Shudder* Meanwhile I'll share an image of a different blue baby run... thank god I was strong enough I no longer required vision. (http://puu.sh/cPJch.png) Cricket's Body
is an awesome item, making your tears split into 4 on hit and splash around, surely hitting your target one or two more times for -hugely- increased damage. Increases tears or dmg too, one of those.
Got it from an arena room... the blue/red sword room thing.
-
Dumb thing happened when I was playing...I died immediately after shooting some Rainbow Poop, the poop healed me right as I died, and I had full health...BUT I STILL DIED. What the hell. (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=341372700)

I got my first
Dark Room
clear.
Basically, I wanted to see if there was an area similar to the Chest when going to Sheol
so I play a game with Isaac and the D6.
The run didn't started all that specially (although I got Mom's Contact, the one with freezing tear effect relatively early).
I took at some point Guppy's Tail and because of that I was starving for keys.
Eventually I rerolled an item into Doctor Fetus. I started processing what just happened as I also happened to have found before the item that makes explosion heals you.
You can guess how things went afterward. X D
I abused Blood Banks and got a ridiculous amount of money and then gambled like crazy. I also managed to get many Luck Up pills.
In the end, I was swimming in keys and bombs. X D
I also got some poisons bombs somewhere in there and Midas Touch toward the end.
It wasn't the most overpowering damage I have made but it didn't mattered because I COULDN'T DIE! X D
(It's probably a good thing because those rotating attacks
at the end seem hard to dodge.)
Speaking of which, Docter Fetus doesn't seems to synergize with the Parasite and Technology.
Anyway, I saw the ending when you clear that area. It makes lot of sense considering what Isaac went through.
-
I found Dr. Fetus to be rather underwhelming in Rebirth.
The bombs do much less damage than in the original and don't seem to scale with your damage stat from what I've seen by using a Devil Card at one point.
So you really are depended on finding those bomb upgrades but it doesn't even synergize with all of those. The burning bombs for example don't affect it.
But Ludovico technique kinda turns it into Epic Fetus with crap damage. :V Though I hoped I would get a permanent bomb that explodes periodically.
All hail DIOO for DIOO is the greatest item. and I guess D4
-
You mean D 10 right?
(although I always read dio too ;_;)
And yes the d4 is hilariously ridiculous.
Meanwhile, Mom's Knife+Quad Shot is the best/worst thing ever. Your knives only move like a centimeter away, but everything dies in one frame except major bosses (which will be lucky if they live through the first whole strike, still) There's my Azazel Chest clear!
Azazel may seem hilariously overpowered at first, but it's actually -really- hard to beat anything past Mom's Heart if you can't fix his range before endgame. All the bosses after that point -slaughter- you if you try to get up close. Mom's Knife or Brimstone are the easiest fixes, if you can manage to find them... although mom's knife isn't exactly long-range, but it's enough to make do (along with it's silly damage- and I think your damage ups actually do something now! Because Azazel's normal blast seems like fixed damage.)
305 items and 137 secrets... oof! I'm gettin' there! >.o;
-
I meant exactly what I wrote. :> It's a
combination of the D4, D20 and D6. So the D4 basically has the same major effect but DIOO ((D 100) (how are you supposed to roll that anyway with so many sides it's basically a sphere.) is more awesome.
DIO is the correct pronounciation anyway. Nobody can convince me of the opposite.
Azazel scales normally with damage like anyone else. And his lack of range does make him troublesome by the later stages of the game. Unless you have Tammie's Head with which it is basically a won run.
I'm still a big fan of Eve. Babylon is just such a good item and now even gives speed and activates earlier for her.
A fun thing is Mom's Knife with Ludovico Technique and 20/20. It gives you a remote-controlled knife which is orbited by another knife. Interestingly though 20/20 with Mom's Knife alone does nothing.
There's also some weird item combination that involves the Tiny Planet with which you can fan it out around yourself in the front and back. I assume the item responsible for the fanning would be Quad Shot.
About the lack of range with Knife+Quad Shot:
It should just be like it that you have to charge for a really long time to get any distance, because from what I've seen so far the throwing distance gained over time by charging relies on your tears rate.
-
oh god you mean you actually managed to unlock that
If Azazel's damage still scales I guess he just does so much in the first place it's hard to tell? It feels like bosses take the exact same amount of damage between having no boosting and then picking up Money is Power with 60+ pennies. And yeah, Eve is pretty good now. Samson went from horrifically bad to good, too, although he's still kinda weird but that's not a bad thing.
The lack of range was there even if I charged- it maxed out at about the range Azazel's brimstone gets, aka not much, and I had to hold for quite awhile to get it there. But everything died so fast that it wasn't a huge deal. Now, if I had to go through normal rooms instead of just Chest minibosses (where there's only one or two targets most of the time anyway), it would have been a nightmare...
Mom's Knife+Brimstone gives you a knife shotgun with practically no charge time AFAIK. It's like a windstream of knives. I had a friend get it, haven't done it myself because Azazel isn't brimstone.
-
I've been really meaning to play this. Only problem is I still haven't finished the first game and I have the DLC still unused.
Backlogged so badly...
Is it vastly different from the original game or the same game but better?
-
It is the same game but better in every way there is literally no reason to ever play the original (DLC or no) again.
-
unless you miss having op dr fetus :V
-
unless you miss having op dr fetus :V
Okay yeah a couple characters/items are nerfed but otherwise :V
p.s. Ludovico Technique and Tiny Planet do not play nice together. But I was Guppy and had a billion flies and Daddy Longlegs soooooooooooooo. (Forgot to note down the seed though :( ) EDIT: I mean it's not horrible or anything but it's definitely way more awkward than straight up Ludovico.
-
PSA: Never take Eve's Mascara and Quad Shot together.
It kills the tear rate.
My only save was to D4 until I eventually got Ipecac+Monstro's Lung and destroyed everything. And then I added Tiny Planet and started making tornados of EXPLOSIVE MURDERBARF.
-
Recently beat Blue Baby (or ? ? ?) inside the Chest. I did not use Azazel, but rather Magdalene. It seems that whenever I attempt to go for
The Lost
, a character just happens to get a really good run. In this case, my first item was the Magic Mushroom, and I shortly after got the IPECAC. Somewhere after getting max damage, nothing really stood a chance. I sadly didn't go through the Boss Rush, even though that would've been prime time to do so. Inside the Chest, I got Tiny Planet, and while at first I thought that I ruined my run, it made me an unstoppable fortress of bullets. When you deal 1/8th of Mom's Heart damage with every shot, you know you've won already.
-
www.twitch.tv/smashy
Streaming going through the unlocks now, currently on Samson to the Chest and then going from there.
(No mic but I will have chat up)
Edit: Am back up, doing Blue Baby through the Chest and then Eve through the Dark Room before happy fun Lost
times
-
I am now officially a Golden God. Yay! :D
I beat the chest for the first time with Azazel. I have heard he is overpowered as a character. Maybe it's true... if you're a really good player, unlike me. X D
I got a ton of death before eventually really starting to make it far. Because I was Azazel, I got a free Mom's wig in the firts floor. : P
I got my hand on a Placenta and a used a Sould Converter backed by a Bible Track (which synersize if I am not mistaken) to eventually get max red hearts.
(I should I then dropped the tract because of those useless Soul Hearts. : P )
I also got Charm of the Vampire. In practice, it meant that despite not being the best dodger, I eventually had little HP problems.
In fact, I was able to explore one of the womb floor for special rooms because I found a red hearts secret room.
I also got Broken Mirror, Tears Bomb, Lost Contact and Lump of Coal which I used to make the last floors boos battle much easier.
I also got a Full Health Pill and manage to keep it for the final battle.
The Map helped me save time getting to the boss. Usually, the boss is waiting on the fartherst away room from what I have seen.
About the final battle in the chest, the boss love to summon weak monster. Charm of the vampire + Placenta did wonders there. X D
I got a Book of Shadow in the Chest just in time for the final battle which was nice but not needed anymore at this point. ^^
In any case, there is now one last ending for me to get. :)
*****Update*****
If anyone want to try Dad's Key
. here is this seed :
av14
64lj
Also, if you're lucky, you might get at a later floor Mom's Knife
at a Devil Room.
-
I am now officially a Golden God. Yay! :D
Congrats!
Apparently Eden's total amount of "stat-points" isn't fixed at all. I started with 4 Red Hearts and at least 2 in every stat outside of tear speed and luck (starting items were Tooth Picks and Pony). So you can get screwed over with him even more than I thought. Or get a godlike run that is won from the starting floor. :V
Stan is also the hardest boss out of the 4 "End-bosses". Discounting Mega-Stan, whom I also feel more comfortable fighting for some reason.
It's just so rare for me to get out of that fight without taking damage since I either run into the bomb-socks or get stomped in the last phase. Dodging the projectiles of the three others is just so much easier. :V
On another note: I've beaten everything with everyone on Hardmode for fancy red borders around the icons and playing on Normal it feels like the game is throwing keys, bombs and whatnot at me like it's nobody's business.
And turns out those babies you unlock from beating Mom's Heart aren't actually familiars but rather multiplayer-babies for your partner. Only noticed that when checking those achievements on Steam. :V
I also got "Dead Boy" via carefully nuking everything in the Dark Room.
-
I play on Normal because playing on Hard requires effort. No, but the real reason as to why I play on Normal is because I started playing on Normal, and can't get away from it. That's literally the only reason.
In other news, recently beat The Chest with Eden. It didn't start off too good of a run, but with Guppy's Paw, and a lucky drop from a mushroom (Magic Mushroom), it turned out to be alright.
-
Well, Hardmode is rather cheap anyway and I really only did it because I would feel uneasy without having that done. I mean, it doesn't really unlock anything for the most part. (Which is a good thing.)
It doesn't actually increase the challenge in terms of fighting but mostly gives you less drops so chances are you're going to miss out on shops and item rooms, leading to frustration.
(Unless you tell yourself that there would've been just a bean in there. :V)
Imho Hardmode could've for example increased damage taken and made the enemies faster or something.
(But not more health as the only change since that doesn't increase the challenge but rather makes it more tedious)
Right now it gives you more enemies and more champions which is the one part that is alright about it.
But what am I saying, I'm done with it anyway. :derp:
And the shortcomings of Hardmode have been discussed her already as well.
-
Anti-Gravity+My Reflection.
I almost literally have the Cave Story Bubbler weapon.
-
Hard Mode does change the room layouts to be a little harder. Making all heart damage a full heart when you're already barely getting any heart drops would have been kinda lame. I think it's alright, they couldn't have really done any more than they did and it does make it notably harder.
It feels like I get overpowered runs way less often in Hard Mode, which makes me wonder if they actually don't use the "special item" modifier like they did in the original game in Normal but do in Hard or something. They might have removed it entirely with the advent of so many items?
-
I meant to replace the less drops thing with the increas in damage intake and stuff. But this is a topic that you can discuss forever.
Wikis still list some items as "special item" but I never bothered with that and only found out about it a few weeks before the release of Rebirth when the original kinda got re-hyped. :V
-
Did Pitch Black and When Life Gives you Lemons.
I got a fast Cricket's Head on the latter and ultimately became so strong I did Boss Rush for the lulz.
-
Have a really sweet seed (though it was definitely helped by my early Credit Card so probably best if you have that unlocked): EF8C AWSA
Rosary, Goat Head, The Bible, Box, Notched Axe, Mom's Underwear, Brimstone, Pentagram, Ceremonial Robes, The Halo, Humbling Bundle, <3, Scapular, Fire Mind, Mom's Heels, Bob's Rotten Head, PHD, Cube of Meat, Dead Dove, Little Baggy, Wooden Spoon, Safety Pin
First floor Goat Head from the curse room the Rosary gave me enough health to enter even though I was Judas
and Credit Card from The Box
into a ridiculous devil room on the second floor (Brimstone, Pentagram, Ceremonial Robes
) made it. Though I died on Isaac because it was my first time in the Cathedral ever and I also stopped getting much in the way of soul/sin heart pickups near the end. :V
EDIT: Oh yeah also I only missed a chance at the boss rush by like 30 seconds.
-
Good news: I got the Super Meat Boy unlock on my Vita.
Bad news: I died to Satan.
Dumb news: I forgot I beat Satan with Isaac already...orz
-
Good news: I got the Super Meat Boy unlock on my Vita.
These achievements are the worst thing, you practically have to get a Book of Revs in the item room on the first two floors :/ (And it's pretty dang rare. I think the library can spawn but that's -also- quite rare, needs a key which you likely don't have any spares and you might pick the shop by accident, etc) And there's TWO, since you have to do Bandage Girl as well, so you better hope your early book of revs spawns the right one! AUGH
also holy crap the credit card
works on devil rooms I have to try that?

unlocked :V)

They are a thing.

This game looks nasty! Stuff like Dead Space feels so tame compared to the creepy sprite gore shown in this Isaac game. I actually don't think I could handle playing it! Organs give me the creeps.

That reaction's actually fairly normal for quite a few things in the game the first time you see them. But they're cartoonish enough that you just sort of disconnect from it after a bit.
-
So has anyone found out yet what Breath of Life does other than kill you when used without charges?
I've tried using it the moment you get hit, so that it maybe prevents the hit but that didn't work. It also doesn't give immunity to damage you inflict on yourself.
-
Lately I managed to beat
Mega Satan
.
I had the Rubber Cement as well as decent attack (+Book of Bellial IIRC) and a high rate of fire.
I like Rubber Cement, the effect mean you get more accuracy and splash damage as the tears keep attacking after hitting something, even an enemy.
It also makes those Worm trinkets viable. I wonder how it interact with Parasite. ^^
I forgot if I had the Wafer but I had lot of HPs. Still, the fight ended more close than I would have liked it to.
The only things beating it unlocked was the last ending and a new title screen. The ending was sad. :( Not totally unexpected but still.
On a unrelated note, someone needs to make a video of that fight with some Touhou music. :D
Since it's possible to turn off the music ingame, it might be doable. :3
On an other unrelated note, we need a Touhou version of that game! :3
In other news, recently beat The Chest with Eden. It didn't start off too good of a run, but with Guppy's Paw, and a lucky drop from a mushroom (Magic Mushroom), it turned out to be alright.
Guppy's Paw is not as good as in the original but it's still an high tier item. Use it once when you're about to die, take red hearts you find meanwhile, rinse and repeat.
Credit Card from The Box
into a ridiculous devil room on the second floor
Really, you can do that with the Credit Card?
That's a big find!
Son, there his a horned black goat head guy at the door saying he is here to get his payment! :D
This game looks nasty! Stuff like Dead Space feels so tame compared to the creepy sprite gore shown in this Isaac game. I actually don't think I could handle playing it! Organs give me the creeps.
The nasty in the game is over the top but the one in Isaac life is much more sadder.

I've tried using it the moment you get hit, so that it maybe prevents the hit but that didn't work. It also doesn't give immunity to damage you inflict on yourself.
From what I have heard, it only makes you immune to ennemy tear damage while you hold the spacebar button. IIRC, it doesn't work against physical or beam damage.
-
Lately I managed to beat Mega Satan
.[/spoiler]
He actually doesn't unlock anything. what you got was the normal ending you get for
beating The Lamb.
From what I have heard, it only makes you immune to ennemy tear damage while you hold the spacebar button. IIRC, it doesn't work against physical or beam damage.
I'll have to check that then if I get my hands on it again. It's so rare though. :V

There's actually kinda an unlock, but it's that in getting the stuff you need to open that fight you unlock Dad's Key.
And the Mega Satan ending
Edit: Should be able to get some runs going uninterrupted, doing Hard mode to the Heart to complete the co-op babies and then working on Donation Machines and horsemen to finish up the normal unlocks.

I spoiled the game and read all the plot+endings. Definitely a very unique plot. Makes me wonder if the author based it on his own real life experiences.
-
Makes me wonder if the author based it on his own real life experiences.
Well, most of it (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMqFTuMECeA), anyways.
-
Trying to clear some stuff with ? ? ? ?, I failed a couple of times until I got a run that started with Icepac. Got a few nice things like Icepac and Infestation 2.
There was Luck Up in the pill rotation and got a ton of these, Bottle of Pills helped, the toward the end I replace it with a crystal ball.
Got nun's Habit and Scapular in the Angel Rooms. Got a Rosary as well.
If you want to try it, here is the seed : m44m 12rw
-
The Stopwatch is so broken. (The broken stopwatch is also broken but in a different sense.)
I got it on Cave 2 and it procced every room, slowing enemies down to a crawl permanently.
Projectiles are useless since they drop after a short distance, charging enemies are neutered because slowed enemies just stand in place while charging. Music also gets perma-slowed which is kinda funny to listen to at times. :V
So if you see it in the shop do everything possible to get it.
Here's a seed that has it: 478E Q66S
It should be in the shop after using the Forget me Now on Caves 2. Both need to be unlocked of course.
-
Wafer, Sharp Plug, Old Bandage, Placenta, Dark Bum.
We break now.
(And stream it)
-
Fun thing about the D10! It treats the head-statues that fire bullets as enemies too. So a room without enemies can suddenly turn into a room with enemies.
-
Ahahahaha my first ever Cathedral clear was on a challenge of all things. To be fair it was Darkness Falls and by the end I had enough straight damage to not need to be in Whore of Babylon, plus I had Holy Mantle and Trinity Shield.
-
But... Darkness Falls railroads you to Sheol???
holy mantle+trinity shield is pretty silly either way though yeah :V
-
idk man I got the angel room (got a few others earlier) and I did get the trophy after Isaac so it totally counted :V
-
What exactly does the gnawed leaf do, anyway? The description isn't exactly helpful...
-
You become invincible while not moving. It's a reference to the tanooki suit in Mario.
It's completely OP :V
-
Today, the game wanted me to win and gave me the Blank Card, the Nun's Habit and the Sun Card. :V
-
Wow, Pyromaniac is very OP. When I played and had two defense flies, Little CHAD, and Pyromaniac, it happened to be my most defensive run yet. My power was at a low two, but I basically had unlimited HP (over 60 bombs). Well, beat Isaac with everyone (excluding The Lost) except Cain and Judas (the latter beating the boss rush however). I'm going to have to beat The Lamb eventually, however I'm getting everyone's Isaac and Chest items first.
-
I heard the only thing the Blank Card doesn't work on is pills. Someone should test it with runes/non-tarot-cards if they get a chance o: It'd be... kind of crazy for it to work on the "2 of ______" and the credit/chaos cards and runes! I mean holy carp.
...I got cut, it's like I'm playing mafia again. But yeah, Pyromaniac is insane, unless you have nothing but soul hearts in which case immunity to explosion damage is still ridonkulous (mom/satan's foot and ipecac enemies or exploding ones all heal you! It'd be awesome even if it only imparted immunity!)
As for The Lamb, he really isn't that hard; it's more that The Dark Room has a couple rooms harder than what you'd find in The Chest and you don't get nearly as many upgrades as The Chest gives you. Unless you were one guppy item away from being guppy? That transform is also insanely powerful. But more or less, if you're already crazy powerful (it'll happen eventually) you can totally get the Dark Room out of the way.
-
Was attempting to beat The Chest with Blue Baby today, but I managed to get both key pieces as Blue Baby, so I went after Mega Satan. Sadly, that didn't go so well, as I was beaten to a pulp before I could get past phase 1. If I was any other character, I might've had a chance...oh well, next time maybe.
-
I finally got to beat (well more accurately get to it :V ) Boss Rush mode for the first time with Samson.
I wasn't specifically going for it at first but then the game gave me Mom's Knife and very little keys. X D
I also got to use in another time Blank Card and Judgement. Managed to make use of lot of money and got a couple of HP up, Black Bean that portable sack and Map + Compass.
I farmed the floors for all they were worth. : P
I then settled for a bad trip pill and obliterated all those who standed in my way.
I got 20/20 on the last floor. The Lamb
didn't even get to split its body in two.
X D
I finally got to try Isaac's Tear
. Not for long but still. X D
It's a Tammy Head that charge as you shoot and thus faster to use.
-

It works with both the "2 of __" cards and the runes.
Can be quite interesting with some of them. Ehwaz practically gives you a 4 room recharge shovel. :V
But the Blank Card really does have kind of a lot of invincibility combos if you get the habit.
-
A lucky run with the Suicide King challenge today. After defeating Mom, the Boss Rush room opened up, and one of the items were Pyromaniac. This made both the Boss Rush and the rest of the run stupid easy.
-
The Lost
Hardmode progress: 1/3 (through the Negative path)
Found the Dead Cat instantly, went on to get guppybrim and win on my last life, even after blowing an Empress card on the first attempt at The Lamb.
I'm going to try to stream right now but Twitch seemed like it was acting up about a half hour ago so dunno how it'll go.
-
I finally got to try Isaac's Tears
. Not for long but still. X D
It's a Tammy Head that charge as you shoot and thus faster to use.
The issue with Isaac's Tears is that the tears shot out are only as strong as the ones you shoot normally; I generally find that the 'cooldown' period where I can't shoot normal tears makes it not even worth using much. It also always shoots normal tears instead of mimicking whatever upgrades you have (although it will do stuff like slow/homing/poison tears, etc). It's only much good if your tears are already strong enough to really hurt the enemies, otherwise I only use it when I'm moving around and can't hit with normal tears anyway.
Tammy's Head can only be used once per room but does amazing damage (even with weak base tears) and azazel or brimstone make it godlike, it's on a whole different level <3
-

^
Played as Azazel and got Tammy's Head and Brimstone on the first floor. Along with this, I got Death's Touch (unlocked by beating the challenge "Waka Waka")
, making my damage output very high, and giving me very long range. I was planning on going to the Dark Room with this run, however, an accidental touch of the Polaroid ended that quickly. Still, I needed to beat Blue Baby as Azazel, so this gave me an excuse to go straight to The Chest. Isaac was the hardest boss, because my damage output wasn't high enough to take him out in one hit. The Chest made the run even easier with Blood Lust as one of my items (because I'm clumsy and get hit often, okay). Overall, it was around a twelve minute run to beat Blue Baby, which is most definitely my fastest run.
-
after 253 deaths I'm wondering why they thought the lost wasn't a horrible, stupid idea
-
So I'm wondering how the Chest/Dark Room split works. Beating the Cathedral doesn't change the file select image to the Polaroid pieces, does that mean I'm locked out of the Chest? Or can I still beat the Cathedral the required number of times and unlock the Polaroid?
For that matter, if I can, then does Mom give the negative or the polaroid?
-
Anyone knows
how deep the basement is? I mean the super secret BASE MENT seed
.

You can still beat the Cathedral said number of times (five), and when defeating Mom, she'll drop both the negative and the polaroid, though you can only pick one.
As for the BASE MENT seed, it's literally infinite. No end. Always basement.

Oh... Ooooohhhh. That's awesome. As of this post, made it to B34. Wondering if it stops at 99 or goes beyond that...

It will go as long as you do. No, really. That's what infinite means.
Eventually you will have every item and the game will just be throwing Breakfast at you over and over again because that's what it does when you have everything.
-
Running out of keys because you picked Guppy's Tail?
Pro tip : using a Bomb Are Key Pill or the D20 can help you get around that
-
Woo. Me before and after the fighting
Satan. Also unlocked ???. So far it has been quite frustrating with the game not gving me anything good.
-
Rebirth is a great game.
I think I may have burned myself out on it a bit, having played it so much in the week or so after its release. :derp:
I have Golden God, mostly I need to do the challenges and get The Big Secret, and I will be a true PLATINUM level god.
I must say I'm so happy Rebirth has official controller support, controllers are way easier on me than the keyboard on this thing.
-
Woo. Me before and after the fighting Satan. Also unlocked ???. So far it has been quite frustrating with the game not gving me anything good.
Just keep trying, sometime luck just isn't on the player side. As you keep unlocking stuff, you will probably get more interesting items in you runs.
Also, consider doing a few challenges. The unlocks you get from them can then help you in the main game. ^^
-
So i got this game, never tried the original, but damn it is fun. I never got it because i really dont like the garbage pail kids style it reminds me of, but whatever, im past that now.
Recently there are murmurings to an expansion already, yay. Not really sure why some things are in spoilers and im on my phone so its troublesome for me to since im not 100% on the tag format so ill just ask vaguelike...
Is there something that unlocks if i kill a certain boss behind a giant golden door a certain number of times? I was kinda bummed that beating him unlocked nothing, and i could have obtained something if I killed ??? Instead (which ive done but no with the character i was playing at that time yet).
Also, is it just me or does petrified poop and mom's coin purse appear every single damn game. Tired of seeing those things.
-
You get nothing from doing that except for that ending.
And I do see the Coin Purse very often too. The poop not so much.
I actually like the poop. But that was because of me playing on Hard Mode and I got a decent amount of items out of it. :V

Actually I think it does unlock something if you beat it with the Secret Character
I've not seen anything about this (and I've sought out 100% completion info by now) and the currently documented secrets total the 178 in the list without doing anything, so, is this anything more than suspicion?
-
Absolutely false information. The only method that
The Lost
unlocks an item that differs from everyone else is defeating It Lives, Isaac, Satan, Blue Baby, and The Lamb on Hard. You do not need to defeat Mega Satan
for this to happen.
-
So i tried to clear a few challenges. Not sure what's the point of "Technology+Homing Shots" challenge and that "Huge-Ass Cupid Arrows" challenge, since both of them pretty much murder anything, but oh, well it was still fun.
Anyway, i was playing Head Trauma and then at Basement II i got Brimstone and Dark Bum in the devil room. It kinda defeated the point of the challenge, but it was kind of challenging in its own way. Yes, half a second charge Brimstone is awesome, but due to the mods of the challenge its damage was... well... kinda lacking.Still better, than that swirly crap. Hardest part was probably Monstro II, who took fucking forever to kill even with poison shots power-up i picked up. Mom was surprisingly easy in comparison.
Any tips on clearing that nightmarish combination of Ipecac+Boomerang tears that is "Suicide King"?
-
Either get used to how the projectiles move on return or learn how to fling them right at your enemies.
Unlike in WotL the Ipecac projectiles no longer only explode when hitting the ground.
Getting about one shotspeed upgrade and some extra movement speed makes this rather easy as the shotspeed acts as extra range and movement speed kinda does the same.
Whip Worm is a really useful thing to have.
You basically move in tiny circles and use the momentum to extend your range. Once you get the hang of it the boomerang effect can be circumvented.
Or just get Brimstone/Mom's Knife to replace the shottype altogether. :V It's kinda silly how that is an option in several of the challenges.
If it's any consolation: I thought at first it would go all the way down to Stan since some other challenges did but it ends at Mom's Heart/It Lives.
-

No...? That challenge very, very definitely goes to Isaac in Cathedral. You must be confusing it with something else.
At least if you lose all your hearts then Lazarus' revival activates Polaroid, letting you go ham on the boss and hopefully finish it.
-

I must have heard wrong then.

You're right. It was another challenge, sorry.
Still, Isaac and the Cathedral are much easier than Satan anyway. :V
-
I currently have an attack plan in terms of unlocking items.
1. Clear The Chest with any characters that have yet to do so.
2. Clear The Dark Room with everyone (except Isaac and Azazel, they've already done so)
3. Clear Mom's Heart on Hard with everyone.
4. Unlock The Lost, and do the above again
There's probably a better plan than this, but it's the one that I have. Somewhere in there, Mega Satan
shall fall, but for now, I'm focusing on obtaining items.
-
Still, Isaac and the Cathedral are much easier than Satan anyway. :V
Well, after my first trip to Cathedral, which i totally didn't cheese with flat-worm-shielded-tears and standing and firing in one spot for like 75% of the fight, i can't really say. Satan is actually easier from the looks of it. Fallen is a joke, you can more or less circle-strafe the second form and his third from is quite easy as well. :V
-
I somehow manage to get hit at least once in Satan's last phase but usually manage to no-hit defeat Isaac.
It's most likely a personal thing.
Satan is so intrusive.
-
I hate Isaac's screen-filling third stage, but somehow I managed to dodge everything when I was down to half a heart. The adrenaline must have helped.
And Satan's second stage is hell (heh) for me. I'm terrible at dodging spreads.
-
I hate Isaac's screen-filling third stage, but somehow I managed to dodge everything when I was down to half a heart. The adrenaline must have helped.
A hint for the sky lasers is when you're in the bottom corners, you will not get hit.
-
Wish you could somehow lock back ???. Imagine, you have no keys, you go to every room on the floor, hoping to find at least one. Finally RNG decides to take pity on you and gives you that one key. And you, full of excitement, go to the treasure room, only to find The Poop inside. Soulcrushing.
-
If it's not poop it's going to be beans.
There's so many items with little use in this game. :V
I've had the poop together with petrified poop and it gave me a sizeable amount of consumables. It's still a bad item though.
-
Had my first experience with an unwinnable situation. I had explored all directions except north of a floor and was left with a heart left. I go north, and it's the Bomberman style room. The issue? The bomb near the door was replaced with a troll bomb. And not just any troll bomb, the one that homes in on you. Worst of all, I had IPECAC shots as well. It was a no-win situation, and it felt kinda bullshit. It was looking like an okay run for Cain as well! :(
-
Picked this up on Steam at a 33% discount, and lets just say it's harder than I thought it would be. Maybe it's because I haven't played "dual-stick" shooters like this in a while, because my longest run was barely over 8 minutes.
The fact that finals are coming up probably means I won't git gud
until a while later.
-

It's hard indeed and harder than the Let's Play you might have watched might (if you did) have you think.
The first floors deserve a special mention because outside of the treasure room, you have very little occasions of getting some power-up.
If the treasure room didn't help, you'll have to make do against the boss with basic stats more or less.
as you get further, it's not as bad because you can get various things from several source to help.
That being said, don't despair. As you do stuff, you'll unlock more items to help and new characters with their own specific strength.
Also, you can at least somewhat rely on the Bible
for easy final battles at first.
Eventually, new final bosses will be unlocked and you won't be able to rely on that trick but by that point you'll have already started to unlock new stuff that will make your life much more easier.
Until you get to the point where you get super good, just keep trying until the game basically decide to give you victory on a platter. :)
-
It's worth mentioning that the game becomes way easier when you learn enemy and boss patterns (hint: they tend to telegraph their attacks). Usually the choking point for me is getting an item or powerup that is difficult to use and that's how I usually end up dying :V
-
It's ok to be bad. I occupy that peculiar skill level where I can barely play competently, but getting really good items can really snowball a run into a success.
Then again, I tend to play so reckless that I end up losing if I don't get lucky.
One thing that really hurts my play is the fact that there's no lag and the action seems faster. The ridiculous slowdown on original Isaac was great for someone with slow reflexes like me.
-
So i am doing various unlocks by doing Sheol/Cathedral with different characters. Behold the most ridiculous Azazel run ever.
P.S. Bought full-screen Brimstone for 2 red hearts.
-
I'm not much of an achievement/trophy whore or anything but I have reasons in this case... if you had this game but didn't register it on steam, then do so after playing quite a bit, but steam achievements don't register, even if you re-do them because it thinks you already got em... is there a way to transfer them somehow via savegame? For example, I beat boss behind golden door, but steam doesn't even think I unlocked it lives yet.
-
Well that was an interesting run:
> Maggie
> First floor Headless Horseman
> Awful 1st Devil Room; have the Pony and Magnet Tears
> Get Goat Head in a Curse Room
> Angel rooms are all bad or spirit hearts [Dead Sea Scrolls Q_Q]
> Item rooms suck and all replace Pony for inferior [Bob's Head? Doctor's Remote? The Bean?]
> Get PHD and get a billion Tears and Range up pills [Also Oh No! is in the bad pill rotation with the animation but PHD don't stop it]
> Cancer Trinket
> This actually makes things really hard and makes some really crazy things happen. Like; Pin acting like a homing missile crazy, or Zombies being nearly invulnerable since they magnet around. I'm literally drawing every enemy at me like I'm a black hole whenever I fire because of my sheer fire rate; but my damage is so awful that I can't kill things in time.
> Get to Womb 1
> Double Fallen
> Fear Shot
> Go to get it
> Overshoot [I kinda... bounced off the item] and fall down to Womb 2
> Didn't even go in the Angel Room
> Throw run at Heart
Seriously. That run was stupid and I threw it, and I did it all with Maggie base damage too Q_Q Fear Shot would have literally won me the game because it's a slight damage up. I also wanted to see what Magnet + Fear would do. Heck; I had Goat Head. That could have been my first Sheol clear [Wait do Angel rooms take you to Sheol or Cathedral after Heart? Because they actually don't share the same code anymore.]
And I get the feeling that final angel room; just to spite me; probobly had Sacred Heart or something actually useful.
Perhaps I shouldn't have picked up Magnet Shots; probobly did far more harm that good. Or perhaps I should have picked up Brother Bobby in that first deal :P
===
Edit: As if the game knew my salt; the next game it gives me a devil deal with Brim; Dark Bum and Pentagram on Basement 2. I beat the Heart and got to Phase 2 of Satan from the trapdoor. Never fought Satan before; or even been in Sheol; so I think I did OK.
-
I had a cometely ridiculous run. So, what happens when you combine Monstro's Lung, The Parasite, Chocolate Milk, Proptosis, Ipecac and maxed out damage? Shit like this. Basically you shoot a cluster of huge, and i mean HUGE tears, which then explode and split into more exploding tears, which then blow up. Nothing could survive it and ironically that includes Isaac if he gets into blast radius. Which considering the size of blast radius is pretty much every time. Here's some screenshoots.
-
Well... that's pretty much a nuke.
-
y'know what would help you with that? Pyromaniac. Heal when you get hit by explosion never shows up as much as I want it to.
-
(http://i.imgur.com/bIfTZyg.jpg)
You see how the room seems kinda yellow? That's the shine from Godhead illuminating the entire field of view.
Blue Baby died in 1 charged chocolate milk shot.
Here's the seed, but I did that one special item via rerolling a key-piece in an angel room. (From what I've heard rerolls are seeded as well but I guess mentioning would be necessary):
QAS4 XPWT
-
How do you people get these giant effing shots? I've had a run where I had like mark of the beast, pentagram, cayote head (that's the 1.5X one right? I forget), stigmata, AND Polyphemus, and my shots were stil not even as big as isaac himself.. wut.
edit: oh yeah looked at screenshot closer, I had 99 gold with cash eyeballs too.
-
Well I managed to get everything is terrible on my first Eve run.
I also became Lord of the Flies
If anyone wants the seed to what was a very fun run [Which ended at Sheol when I was locked at 1/2 heart with enemies which would teleport on me] here's the seed: 2YP6 A8WJ. Aside from the transformation; there's Gamekid + Taurus which is a hilarious combination.
-
How do you people get these giant effing shots?
I didn't even have Polyphemus. :V
It's mostly due to Chocolate Milk, Max's Head and Rotten Onion but this is also Blood Clot-amplified and there's a ton of other damage ups in there.
Edit: I did it. I managed to crash Rebirth by being too silly. Strangely enough, it should have been able to handle me creating infinite items. :V
got milk?
Mega-Stan's
room is a giant sink. If too many pickups are summoned within they will be drained through the top left corner.
-
Ahahaha.
Well. That was a run.
Started off terrible. Playing as ???, first item room had the Bottle of Pills which gave me an immediate luck down, then I nearly died to the Haunt on floor 1. Then floor 2 happened.
Monstro as boss, then the devil room had 3 red chests. One had Guppy's Tail, the other had Dead Cat. I was already at 1 heart, so I thought "why not" and took both.
Now, it sort of snowballed after. I found Cricket's head, the goat head, and Tammy's head. Angel room gave me Holy Grail, I took Eve's Mascara and later Cupid's Arrow, and basically zoomed to Depths II, where I found Spoon Bender in the item room and proceeded to murder red mom in a few hits. Somewhere along the way a random golden chest gave me Guppy's head to complete the Guppy transformation.
The devil room after had... (drumroll please) Dark Bum. Well.
Then I checked the boss rush room. Polyphemus or the D6. I took Polyphemus because hey why not, then I oneshot every single boss.
Nothing stood a chance. Mom's heart died the moment I entered the room. Tammy's head ended Satan's second phase instantly, and the Lamb
dropped to half health before I took a step. Boy was that amazing.

I really couldn't care less about the nerfs so, yay fixes.
And the limit to 10 blue flies is actually appreciated. If you can reliably spawn more than that you don't need more than that.
Brimstone with Quadshot and Libra is kinda nice. It charges almost instantly and shreds everything. :V
-
Fix teleport AI for Lump, Parabite, Loki, Blue Baby, and others
THANK you. Stupid teleporting on top of you problems. Now if only they made the walking hosts easier to deal with...
-
The "Halo of Flies" thing is talking about the enemy.
Also, Monstro's Lung first item room, Brim in the first deal, Guppy in the second deal, Dead Cat from a red chest in Womb I, Pinking Shears right outside of Blue Baby.
(spoilers) It's over (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=354675849)
-
Now if only they made the walking hosts easier to deal with...
Don't start. I have my "favorite" room in the game. It has 4 immobile spewing blood bullets heads and 4 walking hosts. I usually lose a couple of hearts, if not outright die there.
-
Played Sampson again. Kept getting decent but not great items enough that it made a solid run which beat Heart and Boss rush [Sadly no Sheol. I think I'd have beaten it too!].
20/20, Cupid's Arrow, Spectral Tears Board thingy, Synthoil and Growth Hormones were my main items in the actual run. Oh; and the Pony. I LIKE THE PONY. [It gives me a speed I'm comfortable with + ability to fly]
-
Oh; and the Pony. I LIKE THE PONY. [It gives me a speed I'm comfortable with + ability to fly]
It's probably one of the more useful spacebar items. Though not nearly as used as say, Tammy's Head or Book of Belial, or any of the D items (because they've silly), it's still something worth considering.
So far, I've got Isaac, Magdalene, Cain, Judas Azazel, and Eden done for 100%. Haven't unlocked The Lost
yet, and haven't had much luck with Blue Baby, Eve, Samson, or Lazarus (which Lazarus is odd because he's one of the better characters). Gotta say though, the Curved Horn is probably one of the best trinkets in the game.
-

Lazarus is the worst character tho :C Like his revive is barely even useful (if you activate it before the final boss you're most likely doomed anyway), and he actually has low starting stats in most areas other than damage/tears even if it's not obvious. Although I hear negative luck actually -increases- some drop rates, but, overall...

The thing I like least on Lazarus is his terrible range. When you have to get within a spider's possible movement radius, you're in for a bad time.
I think they fixed the negative luck glitch that happened with original BoI, though.

Tried to clear some more challenges.
Demoman was fun and i finished it with the the half a heart remaining. Was one hell of a fight against It Lives. Funny thing, that one of its summons was... Chub. Eat bombs, eat all the bombs in the world.
Cat Got Your Tongue was a bit frustrating at first, but then i kind of figured you could swing your hairball like a flail with your movement. First attempt was me walking immediately on the Super Gluttony in the room next to starting room and losing like 6 hearts to it. Second run was stopped dead by Adversary and his homing Brimstone and the third run was successful, where i actually got pretty good using the hairball flail.
The Host was nothing special.
Suicide King is as frustrating as before and after several failed attempts, haven't bothered with it.
Darkness Falls. Made it to Satan and died. Sometimes i just can't find a good rhythm of running and dodging his feet. /sigh
P.S. What's the point of beating The Golden Door Boss? Aside from the last ending, it gives you nothing. Not even a trophy.

Lazerus is basically vanilla Issac pre-D6 with a pill and a bad revive.
Although I can't Azazel to save my life.

The method to opening that door unlocks Dad's Key. That's about it.

So I'm home for winter break, which means I can finally play on my desktop pc with an Xbox 360 controller. I got to Mom before dying, and it took a good 35 minutes.
Is this game easier with a controller, or did I just get lucky?
chocolate milk really helps

It's sorta subjective. I play just fine with keyboard controls. Then again, I'm used to them. Also, it takes perseverance and obsession to get really far in the game. Eventually you'll know just how to handle every enemy and boss, and from then it's hoping that you get really good items to carry you through the tough parts.
Use the Bible on Mom for an easy instant kill! I think it also nets you an item unlock

Technically you can fight it after beating BB/The Lamb, and I believe you still get the unlocks [Like you get the Heart unlocks after beating the Heart, not after touching the chest. You can go to Sheol if it opens].
Also since it unlocks Dad's Key it's needed for Platinum God to beat it at least once.
Also who dosen't want a different option for an endgame boss? Especially as it pretty much forces you to eschew Deals with the Devil to get to. [Unless you get Dad's Key; in which case you're forgoing your spacebar item]. It's something you can choose to fight if you get an insanely strong run. It's a nice change from fighting ???/The Lamb over and over.
It's like asking why people fight ANY superboss.
Also in addittion to the above hint:
But don't use the Bible on any boss after Mom's Heart. You instantly die instead. The instakill does work on the Heart/It Lives however. Basically the only reason to use the Bible ever is to unlock the Halo.

well it's pretty great before you get your first 11 mom kills and on challenges
It falls off pretty hard after that, though.
I'm not sure the Halo still needs unlocking anymore, either. I don't remember since I did that on literally my first rebirth run. Most vanilla items start unlocked now, though, even ones where it's kinda weird like Daddy's Love.
