<Nobu Hijack>
There's at least a few people here picking up/playing Monster Hunter 3 Tri, so let's get together and hunt!
#MotK-GuildHall on PPIRC
Webchat - http://webchat.ppirc.net/?channels=MotK-GuildHall
Haven't gotten to play Monster Hunter Unite yet but I have played Monster Hunter Freedom 2 for a while. I'm somewhat adept at it but since I wanted to wait for Unite to come out I stopped; though I haven't gotten a chance to get one now that it is out. I'm curious who else plays and how other people go around playing the said game. So, yeah...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monster_Hunter_(series)
For those who don't know anything about the game, let me talk a little about the game(sorry there is a lot you can talk about the game):
The Monster Hunter series is action (RPG) game developed by Capcom. There's not much story other than you play as a hunter in a world where there are monsters (Technically it is Role Playing but since there's near to no story it's kinda awkward to call it an RPG). The real bread and butter of Monster Hunter is it's gameplay. On the surface it is, as I said, just being a hunter and hunting monsters but the pre-mission, mission proper and post-mission has a lot more to it than that.
First, you have to prepare to go and hunt. You'll need the proper equipment and how can one hunt without weapons. There are(currently) 11 weapons to choose from. There will make you into a Blademaster(Melee) or Gunner(Ranged). Melee weapons are: Sword and Shield(SNS), Dual Sword(DS), Great Sword(GS), Long Sword(LS), Hammer, Hunting Horn(HH/Horn), Lance, and Gunlance. Ranged weapons are: Light Bowgun, Heavy Bowgun, and Bow. Each weapon is extremely unique and has a different feel from the other and most of them are balanced(I'm sorry but LS really is too easy to use; at the very least there is very a "best weapon"). After picking a weapon, you'll need some armor so that your ass doesn't get kicked by the monsters(and at times even mother nature will kick your ass). Check you're inventory and see if your stuff is what you want to bring in the mission you have in mind(yes, planning your items ahead is a necessity). You might also apt go to the kitchen and eat some food(cooked by your cats) to power you up. Go to the elder or the guild lady to get your mission and you're off.
You'll be sent into one of the various area of the game(these areas include a Jungle, Snow Mountain, Volcano, etc). Depending on them mission you'll either have to hunt down multiple small monster or one big one(boss). Usually, it's the latter and your first agenda is searching the areas to find and get the attention of the monster. Once that's done, dueling with the monsters will is what makes everything you worked for worth while. The mastery of your weapon, efficient use of the items you've brought and the knowledge of the attacks and opening of the monster at hand will lead you to victory. Once a monster is damaged enough, it will attempt to run off and sleep to recover it's health. At this time you can continue to just kill it and carve for it's spoils or capture it with a trap and tranquilizer(though some high tier monster cannot be captured, also small minor monster cannot be captured).
Once the deed is done and you've returned home to collect your rewards(usually some more monster parts), you'll want to go to the shop. See if there's something new installed for you or whether you can finally complete that piece of equipment you've been killing all these monsters for. After shopping, go to your farm(and now some Harvest Mooning) and get even more materials from the mining site, planting rows, insect bushes, fishing ports, etc. It's also a good way to get some easy money. After which... you'll plan your next hunt.
So, yes, it is sort of grind when you get to it but the gameplay is so fun, especially with the multiplayer feature on the Monster Hunters in the PSP. Me and my friend had a lot of fun; ordering, bragging and shouting all the way!
Anyway, like I said, I want to know who else plays this game series and who's excited about MH3(underwater hunting!) and anything else you'd like to share about MH(I know I have tons of things I can say about this game, but then that's just me).
-
I've been waiting all year for MH3 to get to America. Being like the one of 50th people in America that owned the first one I didn't get the other ones because they all went to the psp. So I missed out.
Really excited to see the series come back to console where it belongs.
-
PHHHHHUUU! THE CAMERA CONTROL AND MOVEMENT CONTROL DO NOT BELONG ON THE SAME SIDE. GOD DAMNED PSP'S ANTINTUITIVE CONTROL SYSTEM!
I hate Blagongas. Easily the Hardest Monster I've had to kill yet, and yes that's including Ralthias and her "RAM! RAM! Pause while you're stunned so you can mash frequently and hope to recover and get away. RAM! YOU'RE DEAD." attack style.
And yes, I just recently and barely made it to HR2. Shogun Ceanetaurs - easy. Balsarios - Know when to keep away, easy. Ralthlos - Cutting off his tail is fun. Blagongas - OH GOD STOP, PLEASE.
and finally, much love for Wii version. I don't have wireless for anything besides DS and Wii, so I'd finally be able to get online. Except I heard they make you pay for Wii online, which sucks.
-
You mean Wii online or you have to pay for MH online?
Wii online is free or w/e they call it.
Apparently it also has 2 person offline Multiplayer.
-
Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G player here (Also known as Monster Hunter Freedom Unite in US)
My rank is G-Rank, did all G-Rank quest. HR8 to HR9 was my hardest bracket.

Hmm... well, ad hoc-ing with friends on the PSP was really fun. In fact, I think that's why my friends got into the game so much so going to the PSP wasn't such a bad idea. Not that I think going to the Wii is bad either; better than the PS3 anyway since I have a higher chance to get a Wii than a PS3.

Blnagongas aren't fun to deal with at first. I might be able to help you a little. What weapon do you use? I usually use gunlance for hunting Blangonga. I'm pretty sure you haven't seen the worst, have you encountered a Yian Garuga(not Kutku)
-
Yes, I think I've beaten the Garuga once. Yian types are pretty easy for me now, though I'm certain Garuga gave me a lot of trouble.
The weapons I'm using now are Hammer (Blue Kut Ku one) Long Sword (Eager Cleaver, though I'm planning on making a new one for Mirage cutter) And I keep a healthy stock in Bows of differing elements up to date (Though, I only ever use them for Khezu).

The first time I hunted Garuga was with the Daimyo Warbow(yes, I beat the damn thing with a bow), also at that time, I don't think I was using flashbombs so I didn't bring any. Of course, that took me like... 4 tries(on the mission, not deaths...). Fortunately, I've had been dodging stuff from the start with the bow(including my first Geodrome and Bulldrome hunts). Like you, most people use bows for Basarios, Gravios and Khezu.(All of which are just plain gunner food)
Anyway, seems you're doing well... though if you want to use the hammer, I suggest going to the Anvil Hammer then Onsluaght Hammer. Eager Cleaver is a good path since there's quite a number of monster weak against thunder for some reason.
Curious where you use your hammer... do you try to always hit the head with the golf-swing?
-
Another fellow Monster Hunter here, I've been with this series since Monster Hunter Freedom. Looking forward to MH3 when it comes out in March.

Plessy will always be my most hated thanks to that stupid Hip-Check that could nail you from a mile away due to poor hit detection and the fact that it spends most of its time swimming rather than attacking. Thank god its easy to gun down though.
-
Plessy has pretty low hp in MH1 idk bout the others. The fact That he enrage when fished out the water is what really makes him a butt-munch. Planting exploding barrels in front of his face and running away so he uses his water breath to set them off is a fun tactic. I was surpised the first time I killed him I was like,
"Holy crap he didn't last long. This guy kicked my ass 3 times and he only has this much hp?"
-
I used to hate Plesioth until I realized his hip attack was blockable. Yes, even with a GS. After awhile I found it was easier to GS him than to shoot him. Right now I'm experimenting with gunlancing - results so far have been pretty good since Plesioth has no way of hurting a careful gunlancer standing right between his legs.
These days I'm actually having more trouble with blosses, since I never learnt to fight them properly (always using ledging and other near-exploits). I'm at HR9, currently attempting to put together a set of Sword Draw gear with a G-rank Tigrex GS, and also trying to finish off the elder quests. Maining LS and LBG, sometimes use GS or GL, seldom use Lance or HH. Am really looking forward to MH3.
I've got to start learning to use Kai... anyone here use that?
-
I personally tend to use pimped up X/U/Z stuff myself, but that's really personal preference. Stuff like HighGradeEarplugs and SS I find are pretty nice to have. Vanilla armor I like is stuff like Akantor gear and Dark Ukanlos.
Also: Sharpness. FUCK YEAR
-
I've started to use the Hunting Horn more as it's fun to use the recital ability to gain bonuses while fending off hordes of *-prey/drome, but I usually main Lance for almost everything since I love using the triple-evasions that it offers. That and my favorite armor set is the Hermitaur series, so yeah...
Also I hate the Khezu and Black Gravios with a passion. The Khezu's paralyzing shockwave attacks are irritating as by the time finish recovering from the first paralysis hit, it already has a second wave heading your way. Black Gravios for the same reason except without paralysis, but add more spamming to it. Curse my below -10 resistance to lightning. :V
-
Monster Hunter is great! Easily the most hours i've ever put into a single game at 327+ hours (on Unite). Although I probably wouldn't have played as much if I didn't have such a large group of friends that also played. Although I played with a couple people regularly (8 hour marathon sessions woo!), the entire group was like 10 or so people total who played.
Things died down recently, after most everyone got G rank, beat Ukanlos, got best in slot weapons, and moved on to other games. MH3 needs to come out now!
Now if only I knew other Touhou fans IRL..

Holy shit O_o... 300+ hours... well it does really help if you have more friends. There were only four of us and it kinda died out for the other two... plus I don't have my own PSP so yeah... I should get one soon... I hope.
Though I really wish they just release Monster Hunter Frontier outside Japanese borders... Probably the only MMO I'd play
-
Yeah, it can't really compare to the amount of hours I put on WOW back when I still played.. hehe. Such time sinks!
-
The newer Monster Hunters are a lot easier compared to the first one.
My bro got Freedom Unite and just pretty much rapes everything with an op long blade.
Gold is far easier to get and the free roaming was a really good idea.
His friend also says he just hacked the game for all the best gear. Idk if that's true.
-

I'm sure you could hack the game for all the best gear, but that takes all the fun out of it. It'd be like hacking Touhou to get the high score.

Really? The new G-Rank of Unite seems harder than the old G-Rank of Freedom 2... than again it was just mostly higher attack and hp for the monster. I'm not sure about change in attack pattern though.
Man, I hope Monster Hunter doesn't turn into a kiddie game like the Megaman series is now... I just saw one Megaman game it looked like a joke. We played it as kids and I know I had a hard time, why are they lowering the difficulty of the Megaman series so that new kids don't. Sorry, I digress.
Is hacking/cheating in a game getting more popular? Or do other people just think that MH is just too hard... I don't. I think it's really fun, and frustrating, to hunt for monster than kick your ass if you make just one mistake.

Either your brother's insane as hell or he never solos
It took me 2 years to get to G-rank in Freedom Unite
-
MHF:U player here. :)
Currently HR7, using a Juggernaut hammer and full Akantor armour. No Earplug anymore but with the Sharpness +1 and Reckless Abandon +3 most stuff below G-Rank dies/flinches often enough for it to not be a big problem. :V
-
Oh sweet, one of these.
So I'm one of the few people that use a few Great Swords while main-wielding Bows and Guns, since it's a total waste of time to use a gun or bow on most small monsters, especially -dromes and -prey types. (Not counting bugs) I'm still at HR2, but I've already unlocked the Tigrex battle in the Elder Quest missions. All I've got to do now is get the Tigrex quest for the guild and "politely ask" one of my dormmates (I.E. Bother him until he caves in) to help me with it.
That being said, I've got a question for all of you that have used guns or know how they work. Heavy Bowguns are my dear sweet loves, but I have a real rough time doing anything movement-wise with them. Since I primarily use them for multiplayer questing, should I just move the fudge back or just switch from using a Power Barrel attachment to a Shield attachment?
-
http://forums.minegarde.com/index.php?showtopic=4968 This is all you need for Heavy Bowgunning. I use the Narga set with Blango Z helm gemmed for evade +2, evade distance up, and rapid fire. Evade distance up and evade +2 give a huge boost to mobility, and you can easily roll circles around a boss.
The trick is not being too far away from the boss, just outside of melee range, so you can easily roll around them.
-
:o Oh, useful...
I remember the time when one of my friend was trying to get the Sword Saint Piercing and couldn't defeat the Kirin with the Heavy Bowgun in training mode. I loved that training, it was so epic and Pallets really raped the Kirin's horn when aimed correctly. I finished it for him with some difficulty; but I wasn't really aiming to do so, I just wanted some training with the Heavy Bowgun.
Well, I did start by finishing my first Giadrome with the 1st Blango Bow... haha, that was fun, if not frustratingly and unnecessarily long. So I guess I just enjoyed more than he did.
-
I tried using pellets, but I found it a little slow when fighting one Kirin. I found myself having an easier time with a light bowgun that had Flaming S Rapid, and just using that and Normal 2s.
-
Well, you didn't have a choice in training and I haven't actually done a normal hunt on Kirin; I usually Hammer it. Pallets work because if you aim a little above the horn, they all(or most of the pallets) hit the horn. Well, that's how I remember it but then again I haven't used Pallets before that so I don't really know how they work.
Hammering Kirin is fun. Super pounding a charging Kirin that'll result into a KO/Fall is so satisfying. (Ok, so I'm not sure if Kirin can be KO'd but I'm sure I made it fall with a super pound a few times)
-
Hey look, a Touhou/MH crossover. :3 Subtle too.

-
Is it just me or am I not getting the link to the full image of that...?
Anyway, finally have a psp! Now I realize that my skills have deteriorated immensely. Now, I need to start some hunting and up my rank. Never even got to unlocking ol' Akantor since when we arrived at HR6, my cousin asked for his PSP back(yeah I was using his).
I admit that I'm not a "true" hunter yet... So any suggestions on weapons, armors or monsters to hunt? I'm at HR6, with most of everything unlocked from Freedom 2... except Aka and the Fatalises.
-
Oops, my bad. Fixed the link to the full size image now.
I'd suggest building an armor set that has some good skills and you can upgrade pretty far. Hermitaur can take you pretty far and isn't hard to make at all. As for weapons, GS and Hammer are both pretty simple but powerful weapons, and if youre having trouble fighting certain monsters up close (Gravios and Plesioth to name a couple), using a ranged weapon makes things really easy.
-
My bro is having a hard time with Tigrex in full Kushala Daora and an Eager Cleaver.
Any tips for him other than spam traps?
-
Eager Cleaver is what, Greatsword? I'd say make use of the charge attack to wail on him as he turns to face you. The time that it takes for Tigrex to do two turns to face you is enough time to get at least 1-2 GS charges before unleashing it on his face.
Also, do not be afraid to block his charge if you can't get out of the way, and sheathe your weapon all the time. It's better to play it safe than getting in risky hits.
-
No, Eager Cleaver is a Long Sword. Hmm... I don't usually LS Tiggy but let's see...
Well if this is his first Tigrex, I'd imagine a very hard struggle. What rank is this? Elder, Low, High? And, sorry, I don't know what Kushala Daora armor does... (too many questions)
Anyway, Tigrex is pretty aggressive and it's weakness is mostly on his front. Although, if you are in front, you can roll under his armpits if you're lucky and/or skilled enough. Like Nobu~ said utilize his turns to hit the head then roll under his armpits.
Also note when he's angry, after to jumps, he rests and does his standing chomping thing. Longest idle of Tiggy, do a slash on the face and roll away. If your brother finds his rage mode a bit too fast, make him use flash bombs.
Don't be greedy, a single slash and then with a back-step slash will be what you'd mostly do.
Other than that, make your brother learn Tiggy's moves. Traps, bombs and flash bombs if you're not confident enough with just a weapon. That's basically it... I think
-
After I made that post he beat tiggy like the next day. I have no idea what hes fighting against now, but I haven't heard any yelling and cursing so I guess hes doing alright. He also says he has full Kirin armor now.
-
Eh, Kirin armor is overrated. It'll serve him well for a while but there are better alternatives, depending on what rank he is and what marks he has available to him.
I think... Khezu-G? was good stuff.
Full Gravios-X with SSP is also neat
-
*Cadmas Casts Raise Dead*
My brother got the Monster Hunter 3 demo yesterday.
I like what they have done to the weapons regarding melee.
The sword and shield has a shield bash and much faster slashing.
Switch axes are wtf crazy its like having a long sword that turns into a fast great blade.
No dual swords and bows anymore. At least not in the demo :(
-
Nope, no dual swords or bows. But Medium Bowgun, oh maaan!
I need to find a way to get a Wii before the game comes out. ><
-
Hah oh wow. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdtjA-6dD_Q)
China does it again.
-

Hahahaha, that is amazing.
It really is.
-
Dammit China, not again. ><
So, we're getting together some MotK hunting parties when Tri comes out, right? :3
-
I'll be up for it when ever the dang game comes out. April was the last date I heard.
So what will people be picking male or female? I'm thinking of going female and naming myself Cadipad.
-
With the way this population is skewed, I'll be surprised if we have any males at all. :V
-
:V
I would get Tri, but I has no Wii.
-
I've noticed some of these games sitting on the used shelves for PSP and from what ive read it looks interesting. Which one is the better version for PSP?
-
I've noticed some of these games sitting on the used shelves for PSP and from what ive read it looks interesting. Which one is the better version for PSP?
TBH they are all kind of the same.
Just buy which one is the newest and available till tri comes out.
-
I'll totally get tri. I beat Unite, really enjoyed it, and don't worry, I'll be picking male.
Though I keep hearing us North Americans will have to pay for wi-fi. That will quickly stop me from dishing the dough.
-
I don't know about "wifi" but the online should be free.
On February 24, 2010, Capcom announced that online play would be provided free of charge.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monster_Hunter_Tri
-
Oh goody. This game is now on my buy list.
-
7 days until the US release date.
-
I plan on getting this day 1, would be cool to get some MotK hunting parties together. I'm still debating if it's worth it for the classic pro or not...I have the classic already
-
Its only like $60 for the Pro with the controller thing right? Me and my bro going to be playing mutiplayer so have to get the controller.
~EDIT
The shit is out for we Americans. I'm picking it up later today. Best have a firm grip on your Wii.
Btw I'm going with a male character after seeing how badass some of the samurai armor is compared to the females.
-
Just traded in 15 PS2 games, 4 DS games, and Pokemon Sapphire to get my copy of Tri. I really wish I didn't have school until 9 PM today ;_;
-
I'm going to get Tri as well. When Nintendo decides Europe's ready for it.
-
Europe gets it in 3 more days Aus gets it in 9 more days because they have to censor the entire thing.
My bro is fooling around with it right now. Taking his sweet time. Took him 45 minutes in character creation alone.
I won't be playing much either since Deadliest Warrior is airing tonight as well.
-
Figured it might be a good idea, so I went ahead and made a channel so us MotKers can get together for some Monster Hunter Tri goodness.
#MotK-GuildHall on PPIRC, http://webchat.ppirc.net/?channels=MotK-GuildHall for webchat!
Also added into the first post: http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php?topic=1461.msg53526#msg53526

Although I won't be getting Tri, I'll be sitting around in the channel because monster hunter is a good game :derp:
-
Only seems to be Nobu and me with the game atm. I guess people are still waiting to buy it. Channel is lonely.
I haven't been online yet but the servers seem lively,

yeah I haven't been online either been doing single player stuff. I usually get off work at 9pm EST so I'll be on then until like 3-4am depending on the day

Online is pretty cool. Been mostly playing with friends with a couple of random people joining here and there when we didn't have a full group.
Random tips:
If you sit at the tables you can eat, and Meat + Dairy gives health and defense boost. And the online area has a trading post and a blacksmith that can make Switch Axes right away (though you need Monster Fluids).
Also, Make sure you buy herbs from the village before going to the city though x_x That's one of the few things you can't get in the city for some reason.
And in order to start doing 2 star quests, you have to get up to HR 9 and do the urgent quest.
-
But what is the multiplayer gameplay like? I haven't played previous titles, I don't have all that much experience, so can anyone give me a brief description of how it works?
-
Basically, you enter the online lobby, then either:
1. Create a mission, select number of people you want to bring on said mission, then wait for people to join up, or
2. Go to the sign up board at the hall, and join someone else's mission.
After that, get ready, and hunt down whatever the game throws at you. Though you have to be of sufficent rank of doing certain missions.
-
EU version is out tomorrow. I'll be checking out the online over the weekend.
My brother is playing now. He has a the pink kuma armor lol its so dumb.
-
Basically, you enter the online lobby
To elaborate on the online lobby system, since it might be confusing at first glance:
- Once you have wi-fi set up on your Wii, select 'City' instead of 'Village' at the mode select screen at the beginning of the game.
- It'll give you a list of servers to pick from. Pick one, and you'll be taken to that server's hub (within the game).
- From within the hub, you go to the main gates, and are presented with a list of numbered 'cities' (which are basically rooms for 4 people) to choose from.
- Once you've entered the city, it's pretty much the same as normal Monster Hunter group play, where you have your shops and the guild desk, the board to post missions, and the gates to leave on quests.
-
From your descriptions, "instanced dungeons" seems to fit. Still, I'm checking out the local shop today.
-
yeah, pretty much every mission is an instanced dungeon.
Also, since MH3 hasn't appeared in my country yet, can someone explain to me in detail how the Switch-Axe works? All I know is that its default is Axe mode, while you can transform it into Sword mode for elemental damage. But is there more to it? And coming from a LS user, how is it in terms of usability?
-
I'm needing as much help as I can to get my 1* Urgent.
Add me if you'd like, ID is JABGMQ (I don't have a USB keyboard so I have no way of communicating).
-

Switch axes are pretty simple. In axe mode they are heavy like great swords but don't have the charge slash.
When you release it into sword mode it is like a long sword with element damage. Its kinda like a heavy dual sword.
Also can Americans play with Europe or did we get isolated servers?
Also are there any readable Weapon upgrade trees?
I looked on MHwiki and only found a confusing list and everything else I locate is for Freedom unite.
I'm really uncomfortable with this blind upgrading I've been doing.
-
Also can Americans play with Europe or did we get isolated servers?
Separated online :( Although importing and playing a US copy would be trivial.
I'm still on the fence about getting this. I was somewhat interested in prior MH titles but I don't really care for the Wii. Explain to me why I should get this :V
And if I do get it who else will get a Wii Speak so I'm not the only retard jabbering?
-
Ah man that sucks. :( I wanted to play with everyone.
And I know what you mean about the Wii, but with the classic controller you don't really even feel the difference.
You can choose to attack with the buttons like in the psp or attack with the R stick like in the ps2.
I use the stick b/c I'm used to the first MH. Also Jagi are wussies compared to Velociprey.
-

GameFAQs' section for Monster Hunter Tri has a good weapon upgrade tree as an image you can download and save.
Also... Tri is going to be my first MH game. My first hunt online with friends, just a normal material gathering hunt... I stumble upon an egg, cart it back to camp, SURPRISE GREAT JAGGI, it's now sitting outside of base camp. The one veteran out of the three of us (Other started playing MH like a week ago and Tri the day before, I had JUST started) was like "Just run past it, it's too much for you guys equipped as you are", so they do that... I stay back and insist on fighting the thing. We ended up winning; our vet was the only one who actually died during this.
I'm being moderately amused, but I'm also not finding it nearly as hard as the series seems to have the reputation of being. This is probably because I'm still in the earlygame, though, of course.
-
yeah, pretty much every mission is an instanced dungeon.
I'd say it's like a hybrid longsword/gunlance/dual sword. Gunlance, because it has a charge attack kinda like wyvern fire, and you deplete a gauge while in sword mode that needs to be reloaded when you get low. Dual blade, because going into sword mode is kind of like demonize where your attacks are powered up and slightly different, except it gradually depletes your phial gauge and not your stamina. And longsword, because it has similar attack style and feel to it, except you chain moves into a sidestep and not a roll.
That really sucks. :< I haven't bothered getting Wii speak since it's an extra 20 bucks to buy the thing, and I just use Skype with some of my friends. Though I might still get Wii speak eventually.

You also had four people, and Great Jaggi is the easiest boss in the game. When you start doing fights with less than four, or start doing some of the harder mobs, you'll see. :3
-
Thx Garlyle I should have looked at gamefaq first.
And yeah this MH3 compared to MH1 doesn't seem as difficult, but I guess it might have been I was still learning back then.
Gold though is a big difference. In the first one you maybe got 400z for killing something and no side quests. No farming either or free roaming. I'm going to go take on shovel head right now.

Of course I have a Teamspeak 3 server on Triela (for Dawn of War 2 \o/) but my PC is kind of like on a different floor of my house as my Wii =P Plus I figured it'd be far more convenient to just use that rather than expect everyone to drag their PCs to their TV or play their Wii at their desk.

Yeah, probably. I'm thinking about getting it, but I want to get some feedback on it first and see if it works well. That and my financial situation right now is at where I can't drop 20 dollars on Wii speak that easily.
-
I got the game yesterday, and spent some time playing it earlier today~ Tri is my first Monster Hunter game, but I was able to familiarize myself with weapon controls using the demo disk, so I'm having an easy time so far. I'll probably jump online tomorrow afternoon after finishing the 1-star quests.
-
Killed Gobul. Now I can go to the tundra. Hope there isn't any water there.
-
I actually liked swimming around and escaping the big whats-its-name and spearing sharks. I guess it's more of a shock to those of you who've played the earlier games, since I think water stages are new in Tri. Maybe?
-
Yeah the water stages are new. Problem I have with them is fighting is some what difficult since your moving and attacking in new directions.
Getting out of the way is a difficult at times. I died 2x on Gobul just because I couldn't recover fast enough underwater.
-
Hmm... Well, all I've done was hunt some non-violent types and escape from the big lightning-back dude. Maybe I'll be frustrated when I come to actual underwater combat...?
-
Just traded in 15 PS2 games, 4 DS games, and Pokemon Sapphire to get my copy of Tri. I really wish I didn't have school until 9 PM today ;_;
Two PS2 games, 3 DS games, a PSP Game, Super Smash Brothers, and 130 empty soda bottles just for the bundled pack.
No regrets.
Underwater combat really isn't that bad. The worse part is by far managing altitude, but the rest is pretty much the same as on dry land. Although dodging is something one might need to get use to.
-
Guess I'll be doing the online thing for the next two days. My code is E8A1C2
I'm not sure if that 1 was a 1. Tv is small.
Edit ~ Rookie Fresh1
Is where I'll be at for today. US

Killed Gobul. Now I can go to the tundra. Hope there isn't any water there.
I fhaven't even fought a Gobul yet. :< Cursed friends that are all stuck under HR9. I'm so sick of hunting Jaggi. And I won't be able to play freely for another couple of days with all the work I have to do. T_T
-
I'm only HR5. Everyone is wearing Ludroth. I'm sick of getting knocked around by other peoples weapons on small monsters.
If we are going to hunt a great Jagi bring a SNS not a hammer or great sword.
-
I haven't even played online because my internet's been down, but since I'm still on the Capturing a Qurupeco quest, I'd imagine that my equipment isn't set for a good online thing yet anyway.
-

This.
This Entire Post.
All of it.
Every last word.
Quropeco armor is much better. You only sacrifice 5 defense, But that's made even more negligible with Evasion+1, The inherent defense boost, and the fact the recovery items work better while wearing it. Not to mention I have it gemmed out so that I can sharpen on the spot without worrying about a charging barroth. (Sharpener Skill)
And nothing is more fun than standing to the right of Switchblade user and getting hit by their sideswape every time you want to cut a knocked down barroth's tail.
-
I'm just wearing full Jaggi armor, because I don't feel like assembling a whole entire new set on the same tier level when I could just replace it with a higher tier later. ~_~ Trying to make a Bhavhkara w/e vespoid thing armor for my gunner set because it's smoking hot, and not bad either.
Nothing wrong with bringing a hammer/GS to a great Jaggi fight, just requires people to not be nubs about it.
-
Not getting knocked over by other people's weapons is an art.
Seriously, going on pubs pretty much requires you to master it. When you're with friends though it's a lot easier just to tell 'em to knock it off, though as Nobu said, nothing wrong with bringing the big guns. Too bad I'm unable to play Tri, otherwise I'd see what this great Jaggi is and see if S&S is the best weapon for it :V
-
from what I recall, a Great Jaggi is basically your normal 'dromes from the previous MHs on steroids. Tougher, slightly faster, and now with brekable parts, so yeah, SnS is decent for it, though I'll take a LS anyday.
-
Should we assign a server for us to play on?
-
SnS is pretty op. It's my default go-to weapon when I don't know how to fight a monster.
Several quick slashes, easy to manuver, Blocking (I can't tell you how many times I've been saved by using the R+X+A combo with an unsheathed sword), and of course the option to Smite for impact damage.
Only real problem is it's low natural attack.
Assigning a Server means nothing in the grand scheme. There's nothing to keep other's out, or to prove we're the only ones together. A Better idea would to just share our IDs and friend each other. I'm HBVBEQ
If that doesn't work, Try MBVBEQ (holy crap this game is way too low def)
Also, if it matters, US and EU Servers are completely seperate.
Oh, and... Remember how I said Ludroth Armor sucked? That was before I wanted to try out a bowgun. Now I double regret buying all of that armor, because not only is it useless, but I need materials for the other set of the same thing.
On top of that, I made a Barrozooka before figuring out how Bowguns worked, and then figured out I wanted the Ludroth version instead. :<
-
Sleepy time now. I got my HR up a little. Hard to believe some people are already 30+. They should really get lives.
-
I agree on the capabilities of the S&S, given its versatility and its place in almost any hunting situation. However, I rue its low attack power against high-armor monsters and other enemies of its kin, while S&S allows for more hits, you do slightly less DPS than if you had used a LS/GS or something of its ilk. I don't deny that it is strong but I don't see it being OP, in fact it is quite far from it. There is no "op" weapon in MH, each weapon is great in their own ways and it's surprisingly well-balanced. Of course, any weapon can be really good in the hands of a master... :smug:
-
SnS: Extreme mobility, good sharpness (If I'm not wrong, the sharpness is actually 1 level higher than what they show for SnS), able to evade most attacks, relatively fast, can both cause impact and slash, pretty good status effects, block if neccessary. Only weakness is low damage output, short range compared to the rest (though the lunge attack has good range) and don't expect the block to do miracles. Able to attack while hiding behind the shield (though you will drop your guard for a split second), and use items while guarding and selecting the item (Do not need to sheathe to use item).
GS: Highest raw damage in-game, okayish mobility, great at cutting tails, charge fer extreme damage and able to block as a last resort. Again, don't expect the block to do miracles, and you lose sharpness per block. Also unable to run, and takes time getting used to, due to slow attack speed. Great weapon to master, but be mindful in multi-play.
LS: High DPS, high damage and sharpness, able to run, good attack speed, spirit guage adds even more damage and sharpness. Mobility is great too. Only weakness is that it is a pure assault weapon, with only rolling for defence (no blocking). Good range too, beware of knocking down in multi-play.
Lance: Good reach, great damage, newly added charge attack and shield bash make it versatile, and the jousting attack (not sure whether it's still in MH3) is great for running slow, large monsters through, though I don't recommend spamming it. Not very good mobility, uses backhops/slides insted of rolling, shield is able to shrug off most attacks. If I'm not wrong, you're able to attack while hiding behind the shield too, like the SnS.
Hammer: Rivals the GS in terms of raw damage, has the potential for highest DPS weapon in-game, capable of causing KOs, and able to move while charging. A great weapon, if you can get pass its rather slow speed and short reach. Also a pure assault weapon with only rolling for defence. Note: The standard triple pound WILL put the hurt on anything you successfully connect the combo with.
This are all my thoughts on the melee weaps in MH3, can't say anything about the SA since I haven't used it yet. :V
-
I love my lances~<3 The only other weapon I'm really interested in trying out right now is the LS, but I'm a few missions from being able to forge one. Since I doubt I'll be able to play over the week (our Wii is in the family room), I guess I'll have to wait for Thursday or Friday.
-
Yes, Lances are special for being the only large weapon with the capability of Attack Guarding - you do a spear poke.
I personally disagree with the SnS guard being good, it is marginally useful at best - you're better off using the SnS' great mobility for dodging attacks completely instead of tanking or soaking up damage you could otherwise have avoided in the first place. The guard shouldn't really be considered as a con, though, since you shouldn't really even be using it at ALL in the first place, and you have crazy mobility with it anyway - they removed dual swords in Tri, which means SnS has no other competitors except maybe the GS.
The LS and Hammer are two weapons, I believe, that are in tough competition for "strongest weapon" spot. It just so happens that these two weapons don't have defensive mechanisms either - funny how that works. Both possess high damage output potential, Hammer has a greater radius while the LS has a greater reach. Both can be extremely destructive in the hands of a player who can easily dodge enemy attacks (I used a Hammer a lot in Unite, for instance, in groups)
-
From what I hear Hammer has been scaled down in damage, and they're no longer the top damage dealers. However, they do stamina damage in addition to normal damage, so they're important for fatiguing the monster. Plus, they're still good damage dealers nonetheless.
. There is no "op" weapon in MH, each weapon is great in their own ways and it's surprisingly well-balanced.
Hello Trance, let me introduce you to my friend Greatsword. Greatsword, this is Trance. :V
In all seriousness, there really is no 'op' weapon in the traditional sense of making other weapons obsolete, but some weapons definitely have a steeper learning curve than others.
-
I prefer SNS just because I've gotten so used to it. I started out using great swords in MH1 but back then they had no charge slashes.
I hated taking so much time to sheath just so I could run around so I went with the most mobile thing I could get. While the defense isn't prefect it helps to prevent a lot of otherwise stupid moments escailly with the auto block talisman you get at the start of the game. A lot of newer players I see with larger weapons die often. I'll get a least one of every weapon so I'll try them out sooner or later.
-
It does feel slow to sheathe the lance and run around to either sharpen or pot, but I think the weapon's capabilities themselves more than make for it. I think (dunno for sure) that it's not as powerful as the no-block weapons, but since I'm still getting used to things, it's a lot easier for me to block big hits than to try and doge them. Hopefully, learning how to use the longsword will help me in that aspect so that I can finally get started on bowguns.
-
MMMm bowguns. Nope never touching one of those.
-
I mained HBG in Unite. With the right equipment, soloing dual Rajang is actually practical :D
And lances are indeed pretty sick in this incarnation.
-
I tried the Light and Heavy Bowguns in the demo some time ago, and I found the lack of mobility of the HBG to be too much of a hindrance... I really liked the LBG though! I'm gonna start with the light and work my way to heavy when I get the chance. Maybe I'll make a secondary character for fucking around with bowgun parts...
That brings me to a question. Is there much point to making other characters, aside from maybe wanting to play as a girl or something?
-
I still haven't gotten the chance to dick around with guns. I want to so bad, though.
Also, I sold my switchaxe, because I'll obviously never use it again. It's the New Long Sword from Unite. Though I actually liked LS last game because it was a happy cross between SnS and GS. I cannot and will not ever get into using the GS.
Right now, I'm in the middle of making a Baggi, and Gobul set, for absolutely no reason. I don't know what it is with me, but whenever I go online, Monster Materials just randomly drift into my item box without even my noticing. I haven't done any "Grinding" Since I got my peco set.
Though, I'll be grinding Baggi soon, since I FINALLY Found out how to get Leaders Crests. And I thought getting King's Frills were bad enough. I only needed one of those but these I need to find six more of.
^Don't worry about using the heavy guns. I may be pretty early, but customizing Bowguns to have a low weight seems pretty easy when choosing parts. You can even get the Shield ability onto a medium sized bowgun if the rest are lightweight parts.
Edit: No, not really. Your character's name, sex and voice are probably the only things you can't really change.
-
Oh, Shield with a Med. Bowgun sounds great. I'll definitely want to try that, at least when I'm switching over from Lance.
I'm still using noob armor (Hunter, I think?) because I'm pouring my grinding into weapon materials. No need for armor if I kill everything first!
(Of course, I know that won't work for very long... But if I can take a Royal Ludroth, finishing the offline 3-star quests can't be that much harder! ...Right?)
-
I would imagine so, since Offline 3Star rank only goes up to Royal Ludroth.
Offline Star 4 is the equivalent of online star 2. :V
I have no idea what they did for the other seven online star.
Also, God damn I hate "Slay x random minion" Quests.
/me only puts 12 baggies in the entire area
Ha ha! You can't even slay 20 baggies!
This happened to me in Unite as well, I know they're doing this to me on purpose.
-
HBG sacrifices that mobility for a shield and awesome firepower. I'm pretty sure that MBGs are pretty close to the same mobility as HBGs, aren't they? I don't remember noting a huge difference between MBG and HBG in that respect.
And when you have Evade + 2 and Evade distance up, you really don't notice that whole 'lack of mobility' thing. :D
-
I love my lances~<3 The only other weapon I'm really interested in trying out right now is the LS, but I'm a few missions from being able to forge one. Since I doubt I'll be able to play over the week (our Wii is in the family room), I guess I'll have to wait for Thursday or Friday.
The LS is a crazy ass weapon :D (In my opinion at least)
Combos:
Full Normal Combo (Starting from sheathed): X + X + A + X +(X+A)
Chop downwards two times, thrust, uppercut and fade slash. Basic combo, though remember that you can cancel this combo anytime with a fade slash. Ok damage, doesn't use spirit guage.
Spirit Combo: R + R + R + R
Slash two times, before slashing twice again, downward chop and finish off with a roundslash dash attack. Sheathes weapon after the roundslash. The most basic spamming there is with decent spirit damage. Remember spirit attacks have infinite sharpness, and therefore do not bounce.
Full Spirit Combo (Starting from sheathed): X + X + A + X + R + A + R + A + R + either R or (X+A)
The main destructive combo, this combo is the defination of DPS. Do note that while this costs way less sprit than the Spirit Combo (due to the alternating of attacks), it takes a very long time to pull off, taking from 7-10 seconds, so only use it when you have a large window of opportunity. Again, feel free to cancel the combo anytime by using the fade slash.
I personally disagree with the SnS guard being good, it is marginally useful at best - you're better off using the SnS' great mobility for dodging attacks completely instead of tanking or soaking up damage you could otherwise have avoided in the first place. I know, the block for SnS is pathetic to say the least. I too recommend actually evading than blocking. However, the block to me is there for that slight chance of survival when say, you're conered and can't roll, or a certain attack is unevadable without evasion skills.
-
Very want. (http://monsterhunter.wikia.com/wiki/MH3:_Long_Sword#Jhen_Mohran_path) Well, I'm still on Barroth, so Jhen is ages away... But a guy can dream, right~?
Anyway, I'll see if I can actually remember the combos by Thursday/Friday... If I can do alright with the last 3-star offline quests, I'll jump online and try to whip through the 1 and 2 star quests fairly quickly.
-
I mostly am wearing Barroth armor. My dang brother is farming Rathalos in offline with the cataclysm GS. Jhezzz he never takes a break.
-
The image of Orin trying to sign up as one of the cats that brings you back to camp when you faint just popped into my head.
I wanted to share that with everyone.
-
Yeah, imagine where you get dumped at when you faint.
Hint: It's not base camp. It's also warm. Very warm.
-
Hello Trance, let me introduce you to my friend Greatsword. Greatsword, this is Trance. :V
You kidding? My entire HR4 to HR8 in Unite (JPN) was me using a GS ??? :V
Oh, Shield with a Med. Bowgun sounds great. I'll definitely want to try that, at least when I'm switching over from Lance.

Upgrading armor is pretty important for one reason: decorations/jewels/shinies. You need those to give yourself super duper awesome magickal powers of doom.
-
Qurupeco:
Bird Wyvern with unique plumage. Well known for using their thoracic vocal organs to imitate other monster's calls, first summoning them, then using the distraction to flee. Spits a dangerous combustible body fluid.
Qurupesco:
Mafia player with unique avatar. Well known for using their behavioral breadcrumbs to imitate other mafia roles, first routing scum, then using the distraction to escape lynch. Spits a dangerous combustible ad hominid.
This just will not leave my head.
-
Actually, I figured out slots kind of quickly. Guess what I used my set's 5 for? Hint: They were all the same, and they were all the opposite of the defense jewel.
Funny you should mention that, Zakeri. I'm supposed to go back to hunting their strange beaks...
-
On an completely unrelated note, who here is waiting for MHF3? :D
-
Just got the game, getting to grips with the single-player. A few questions to start off with: what do I do with all the junk I get from monsters, like scales, hides, dung and everything? I'm just storing them, but I haven't found much use for them as of now, apart from those in the book of combos.
Also how far in the game do you start crafting your own equipment?
-

Go into your item box
Click "Combine" Option on the list
Try everything.
Don't worry, it doesn't take long. They highlight all of the possible options for you and dark out the ones you can't combine. Just know that everything you can use on the field can be made from random dropped parts., and that everything has a use.

Look at this (http://monsterhunter.wikia.com/wiki/MH3:_Armors#Hunter.27s_Armor) armor. It is such cool armor I am hunting Royal Ludroths in it without dying. You totally dig this armor of mine. I know you do.
Actually, I'm thinking that I should really do something about this little armor issue of mine. Rather than start hunting for every armor available to me, I'm gonna browse around... I like the Qurupeco set, and the Bnahabra armor looks cool too, although I'm not sure how I'm gonna deal without my Hunter Armor's auto-mapping. :ohdear:
Also, I think I'm gonna see if anyone notices if I take the Wii from the family room to my room. My parents are always there to watch TV, but the Wii is supposed to be there because of the wide space for the more physically-intensive games...
-
I've personally never need a map for an area more than twice.
You'll learn to cope with it.

All the Junk you get off monsters is for crafting armor, weapons, and other things.
You can start crafting right away. Do more hunts and get junk so you can unlock the ability to craft stuff.
Is it worth it though, crafting straight away? Is there a risk of having wasted resources on useless stuff or beginner stuff you'll regret making in the long run?
-
With some armors, yeah. Look at the different armor skills and see what you really need before crafting, since those parts can be used in weapons as well. Weapons have multiple upgrade paths (which, in my limited experience, are inaccessible to most newbies with low-ranked monster parts), so it may be worth looking at the upgrade trees and planning ahead. What weapons are you favoring?
-
I'm trying a bit of all. Getting tired of sword and shield because of low damage and easy to break. I'm going to focus probably on great swords, swords or lances. I know that's not very specific.
-
Given that SwitchAxe, Longsword, and Hammer are the only melee weapons not there, it really isn't. :v
Still, take a look at the wiki for weapon upgrade paths so you can plan accordingly. Link. (http://monsterhunter.wikia.com/wiki/MH3:_Weapons)
-
Ok, I fiddled a bit more, and I think I'll focus on Great Swords.
-

One tip about the Wiki: using the option for tree view makes it easier to figure out what your path options are.
Is it worth it though, crafting straight away? Is there a risk of having wasted resources on useless stuff or beginner stuff you'll regret making in the long run?
You can't make it very far in the game without crafting things. I don't think you'll ever regret using resources on useless/beginners stuff later in the game, because materials are on a tiered basis. (I.E: there aren't any items that you only get one of early in the game, and you can never get ever again)
And actually, usually as you get higher in rank the stuff that was once hard to get becomes easier to get. So i'd say don't worry too much about it and craft away. Early on, figure out an armor set you'd like to make (like Jaggi, Qurupeco, Ludroth), and work on making it. As for weapons, though it may be good to look at the wiki it might be overwhelming at this point. Early on, it's important to find a weapon that has at least green sharpness, so try some upgrade paths until you get to that point.
Hmm, if you're focusing on GreatSwords, try going the Jaggi path too. It goes Iron Sword ---> Iron Sword + ---> Rugged GreatSword. You can get up to the Rugged Greatsword with just Jaggi parts and ore alone, and it's good attack power and green sharpness.
-
Yeah, holding off on spending resources is generally a little silly, as, like it was said, you're never going to be permanently unable to get replacements. Stuff that's really rare or valuable (Rath plates...) tends to be used for barely anything, and anything it is used to create tends to be really good anyway, so it works out. The one time you might want to be careful about it is that armor tends to work best when it's all from one set, so crafting it as a full set generally works better than just mixing-and-matching (Though that can work too if you pay attention - I do it)
As for weapons, any weapon type can be pretty good... some just require a lot more precision and timing or do better online when a hunt can be focused on other players (Greatswords and Bowguns are what I'm thinking when I say that).
Oh well. Either way... more Barroth hunting tonight for me online +_+
Also: I know there's lots of stuff that isn't here, but, I prefer GameFAQs (http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/wii/game/943655.html) for weapon upgrade trees and resource maps and stuff. They just seem so much more organized.
-
Gotta hunt up Qurupecos for those strange mouths... I had one in my box, but I accidentally converted it into resource points for the village. ;_;
I'm gonna try and sneaky-sneak the Wii from the family room to my room when I get home later today and see if my mom notices right away. Knowing her, she probably will. =_=
-
One question about online: can you use your character in both single and multiplayer or do you need a separate one?
-
One question about online: can you use your character in both single and multiplayer or do you need a separate one?
Characters can freely swap between the two, carrying over everything from one onto the other.
The only difference is that your progression in the game is kept track of separately - so even if you complete the entirity of offline and are carting around like Lagiacrus gear or something into online, you're still going to be starting at HR1 and starting at 1* quests. (Which actually is like 1*-3* offline...)
-
My brother is trying to do the Ceadeus quest where you break his horns.
The thing looks like it belongs to FFX more than MH.
-
Yukumo Village
Welp, there's another one for the "Played too much touhou" topic.
-
Looks like I'll never get the Wii into my bedroom. My mom's copy of Wii Fit plus arrived in the mail today...
Oh, well. After talking to her, she's cool with me playing a little bit (and she said that'd she'd give Tri a try as well after watching me capture a Qurupeco), so I think it'll be fine in the end.
-
Yeah... I can't wait to see how easy village stuff is going to be. I'm almost at 3star quests in the city, but I haven't even completed the basic Jaggi quest in village yet. :3
-
I bet it'll be really easy if you already have nice upgraded weapons and armor from your online play. That first Great Jaggi made me feel so proud... ;_;
-
Poor Jana. Why couldn't you have a normal mom that just yells at you for playing games and never tries them?
-
It's 'cuz I'm old enough now that we're more like friendly not-quite-equals-living-in-the-same-house than a mom and son. I'm cool with it. I don't know anyone else who can get away with laughing at their parents' failures at Wii Fit. BV

The Giggi, when they attack along with other monsters, are the bane of my existence. I don't have the time to take out my torch, what the hell.
Also, are monster spawns infinite in some places? Like the Bahabara in the cave (area 4 village)? No matter how many I kill there's always more.
-
If Giggi get on you try rolling twice to get them off. Much more effective than the torch.
And yes some mobs have infinite spawns in some areas on some missions and in free roam.
So far I have killed everything up to and including Lagi with a SNS in single player.
-
I kinda found the SnS to be difficult... It could just be my playstyle, but even with the speed of that weapon set, I can't seem to deal consistent damage. The fact that I have to stop and sharpen all the time is annoying to me as well...
-
Yeah... I can't wait to see how easy village stuff is going to be. I'm almost at 3star quests in the city, but I haven't even completed the basic Jaggi quest in village yet. :3
Well... I think Offline -ends- where Online reaches 4* quests... so yeah.
-
After you do Ceadeus you get the credits. Then you can do more urgent quests from there but I'm not sure how many there really are.
-
After some hours of grinding, I've completed my Qurupeco armor set (and even got a Spiral Piercer to match~). My next big enemy is the Barroth, which I'm not looking forward to all that much, to be honest... I dunno if you guys playing online have taken one down solo yet, but have you guys got any tips for dealing with it?

I haven't solo'd it yet (Though I've taken down everything up to it solo - and one of the bosses after too, but that's only Great Baggi who's a lolfest), but I will give you some tips.
1. Bring a weapon with water element. The only way you're going to get one at this point is by making a bone weapon, upgrade it to Bone+, and then upgrade it to Ludroth weapon. Then get a bunch of parts from Royal Ludroth and you can turn it into a Ludroth+, which will actually carry water element (I believe this path is applicable for all weapon types - I know for sure it is for swords and greatswords). If you're a gunner, it means water shot. It emerges from the mud, which sticks to it and acts as armor, and it takes water damage to knock the mud off it. If you can't take the mud off, the battle takes a lot longer, because it significantly reduces damage. It can regenerate the mud, too, so be wary of that.
2. If you have a method of changing element (Switch Axe(?), or are Gunner), switch to fire shot after knocking it's armor off to do more damage.
3. If you're being charged straight at, I think you're supposed to roll left (Towards it's right), as the charge ends in a nasty tailswipe. Speaking of which, learn this attack, because it's by far his most damaging (Carrying full Hunter garb into the battle, which I admit isn't the best, but either way, it would nearly 1HKO me)
4. Head is, for once, the most well-armored part of it's body. Don't go for it, aim for the rest of it instead. In addition to this, I personally found that the legs were one of the safer places.
5. If it starts digging up mudballs, block (or dodge the hell away if you can't). Getting trapped by mud is rage-inducing and going solo will almost certainly spell your doom unless you get lucky, because you can't use any item (except a Cleanser), can barely walk away, and can't defend yourself at all until a few seconds pass or you get hit. ...So yeah. It's a nasty attack.
-
My Spiral Lance happens to have 110 water to it. Upgrading to it was exactly as you described to be the case with your swords. It's perfect~<3
Maybe I can give Cha-Cha Fire element to help, but I don't have any Fire weapons myself. And my Qurupeco armor has Evade +1, so I should be able to get the rolls out, even with a big lance (and if not, I can block a bit). I've also gotten stocked up on Cleansers to be safe, and according to something else I looked up, between its legs is kind of a safe spot. With all this info, I think I can win tomorrow. Thanks for posting~

A majority of the monsters in this one are weak to fire so it would be a good idea to build one up sometime.
I need to start building some element blades since all I have been using is a sleep based SNS and it isn't terribly useful in single player.
A sleep GS would do me much better, but it needs Awakening.

It was pretty useful last night, Especially with my, and some random other guy's Paralysis SnSes on top of it. Plus, I have an unnatural fondness for my Poison SnS now. I really need to make Gigginox Armor now.
that, and my Elemental+ armor is useless since I only have status effect weapons now :nyoro~n:
-
I got full ingot armors now. I'd like to get some of the armor surrounding that tier but I am broke as a joke.
And there was some girl hitting on me a little while ago.
I seriously don't need under aged girls tying to get me to have cyber sex over wii speak.
This is part the reason I picked to play a male this time. >: V
-
i picked male because the YouTubu bidesow tih girlcharactersmade memornnoyed by their voices. I stilk have a gril chater woth s not-annoying voice for getting nice gund and armor thgou! :)

Ahaha, ilu Janana~
Been playing for the past 5-6 hours since class ended earlier today. :< I die too much.

TRANSLATION!
Ahaha, how interesting my dear friend. I myself chose to play as a male character due to the fact that a video on youtube effectively demonstrated that the voice acting for the females was annoying to me. But, regardless, I still have a girl character who does not have an annoying voice, primarily for obtaining guns and armour.

Do you really need to have a quest in order to reach the sandy plains?
-
Do you really need to have a quest in order to reach the sandy plains?
Yes. online, you need a quest to go anywhere.
However, once you get a little farther, there's specific "Gathering" quests, which are basically "Here, go freeroam in this area, and when you're done, go grab the ticket from the box and you'll be done".
A majority of the monsters in this one are weak to fire so it would be a good idea to build one up sometime.

Did you seriously just suggest Sleep? And a sleep GREATSWORD at that?
_Seriously_?
Okay well I can maybe see it for the purprose of giving people a chance to heal and sharpen if it kicks in right, but yeah. It wears off the moment someone attacks it again, and the time for most monsters to wake back up is pretty short. Paralysis and Poison both have noticably greater damage potential, honestly - Paralysis for stunning it so everyone can wail, Poison for the added damage.
It's worth noting, Poison is the stronger one for single-player, but the paralysis stun time and everyone wailing on it for damage adds up to more damage in multiplayer.
On a related note, a greatsword is pretty much the worst ailment weapon in the game. The effects aren't any stronger than any other weapon per hit, but Greatsword also lands far fewer hits than any weapon in the game. It's just really ineffectual; and in almost every case you're much better off picking a Greatsword based purely on its damage potential.
On the flipside, SnS is the best weapon for inflicting ailments, since it hits so fast and just as well! But, even if it attacks faster, its damage output is proven to be the weakest unless you're abusing an enemy's elemental vulneurabilities well; so you either need to make sure to have swords of all elements and use those, or be focusing on ailment infliction in multiplayer, or you're generally gonna be better off with a different weapon. (With that said, the PAR SnS, Azi Dahka > Almighty Dahaka, is absolutely glorious in multiplayer)
That's my understanding of things, of course. It's not to say you can't use these things for what I'm suggesting against, just... they're definitely not optimal options.
-
Hahahahaha, using slow weapons for ailments is like the worst idea ever.
No, really. You choose damage potential or status, but you can't have both on the same weapon, you're going to be pretty much forced to compromise. Status proc is a lot easier on faster weapons, naturally, and SnS is the only really fast weapon since dual swords got removed (why did they remove them? WHY).
-
Actually, DSes would be TOO good with status ailments, considering DSes can easily hit 12 times in a single combo. So even in MHF2/U, they mostly gave them elemental effects instead of status effects. But yeah, I wish the DSes were in MH3 D:
On another note, for the GS, I'm gonna have to go with raw damage over elements/ailments, since charging only increases the raw damage. Also, sleep weapons are pretty good too, since anything sleeping takes 3 times the damaage from the next hit. AKA, sleepbombing was created:
1. Put monster to sleep.
2. Plant as many large barrel bombs around the target.
3. Set off bombs.
4. ????
5. Profits!
-
Correction Vicks: they did have some DSes with status, its just all DS attacks did 70% the elemental/status damage that other weapons did. Still, you'd be putting out massive amounts of elemental damage (and in unite they even added another elemental hit on demonize combo).
-

I know, I said MOSTLY elemental effects, not only. And yes, for the DSes, elements/statuses over raw damage, since that sharpness is gonna drop reaaaal fast, and both don't get affected by sharpness. Also, high affinity with DSes are awesome, since if your first hit on demon dance is a critical, the rest of the combo will all be critical hits too.

Aaah Too much drama over sleep status. I wasn't even going to waste the time making a sleep GS its pointless. X.X
In other news I am now the proud owner of 4 snowflake plants.

give them to me.
Ahh, Free Roam offline is just so relaxing for some reason. Without the stress of needing to be fully stocked, walking around at your own pace, and it's almost as rewarding as the quests are. I just captured a Rathian and R.Ludroth last night, got 1600 points, and wound up getting 5 different Rare commodities. 3 2Stars and 2 3Stars. It's was really nice~

This is drama? :V
Finally started doing the Village Quests, and i've been tearing through them. Jaggi went down in three minutes from my fire hammer, and I failed the capture quest twice because I accidentally killed him so quickly @_@;
I also ended up doing something amusing. I was paranoid about whether or not Jaggi was capturable or not yet, so I threw down a trap and tried a couple of tranq bombs. Didn't work, so I pulled out my hammer and thwapped him a couple times, threw another tranq and it worked. :D

Damn that picture, its so entertaining.
So HR20 now I can finally get the mats for my ice SNS and hunt Diablos I guess.
Still broke thanks to me buying a switch axe for 9800z
-
(Special thanks to Nobu for helping me get my main to HR4 within an hour today~)
Took down that motherfucker, Barroth, earlier today. Damn muddy bulldozer took me down twice before I could do it, though. That's what I get for playing with the classic controller when I'm more used to Wiimote+Nunchuck... Up next, Gobul. For some reason, it doesn't seem as scary...
-
Hate Barroth, Hate Gobul. Their heads are so tricky to hit up on. Barroth is armor plated and Gobul is a row of teeth and spikes.
and you bums need to start sending me friend requests. I only have Zakeri in my list and he plays a guy named Ashley.
-
I only have Nobu. Today was my first time playing online. Ah, Nobu~ I'm so glad you were my first~
Well, we can exchange codes on here, or I can go onto the IRC channel on the OP whenever I get to play online again. Next week is final exam preparation week, and the Monday and Tuesday of the following week are my exams. Even if there's only 1 exam I really need to study for, I doubt my parents are going to let up on me and let me play on the Wii at all. :<
Maybe I can play Tuesday afternoon and all day Wednesday and Thursday.
-
My code is somewhere back in this thread.
But seriously this word filter is terrible. I think Runescape lets you say more.
Can't even say the word "After".
-
At Leas ***** not as bad as PSU's filter.
God damn it! I meant "LeasT IT'S not."
Also, I may have run into the worst player ever. I checked his skills and he only has one: Water Resistance -10.
How do you let that happen? What armor set do you need to wear to give you only ONE NEGATIVE SKILL? Do you gem it out specifically or what?
Same guy then proceeded to hit on me for the entire mission (See Cadmas's post about me).
-

I snickered. So subtle, so subtle....
-
I also just noticed the guy is using a Thunder GS
Keep in mind that I'm at the "Recruiting" Server with the goal of "2Star Urgent" which is Lagiacrus Hunting.
I know it's not that bad, but he could at least have a slightly useful element.
-
Up next, Gobul. For some reason, it doesn't seem as scary...
You clearly have not fought this bastard yet.
Barroth was really easy for me and my team. Well, not easy, but really manageable.
Gobul for us is running into a brick wall.
-

Killed my first Great Jaggi (yeah, I'm taking it slow). It was an epic 10 minutes of pure adrenaline. And of serious resource consumption.
:] Just amazing.

:ohdear:
Well, I'll give it my first try in a bit. Let's see how this goes...
Edit: Did okay on Try 1, but I had only a few potions to heal up with and I ran out of time (not quest time, mom time). I'll give it a shot when I'm fully stocked up later; shouldn't take another try before I can start grinding for Gobul parts. Since I knew I had only a little bit of time, I took this try as a scouting-attempt, so to speak.
-
I just did my Third Jump four Jaggie quest right now. I got three Jaggi Heads. Thanks, now I'll have two crowding my inventory forever :V I didn't even realize you could get more than one at a time.
in other news, just doing random quests I managed to finish my Baggi Armor, and my Lagi Armor. Now all I need is a god damn Rathian plate and I'll have every 2* Armor set I could even give half a crap about. Although in all honesty, I need to start doing 3* missions online :<.
-
Gah, Rathian/Rathalos plates/rubies, the bane of my existance :V Just remember to keep breaking the head plates of the Ian/Los to attempt to get it as a reward.
-
Anything that involves a plate I pretty much skip. There's like a 5% of getting between traps and tail craving I believe. Ingot baby.
-
Assuming you break it's head, carve it's tail, and pick up at least one shiny drop per battle, that should be around a 9% Chance of getting a plate, which means you should get one on average after killing it 11 times. And that's assuming you only get one chance of a plate appearing in the quest reward screen.
Which means I'm bound to get one soon, right guys? Guys? :ohdear:
Besides, I should be hunting Rathlos anyway, since I need Flame Sacs for most of my weapons and-
Wait. What do you mean Ian drops them, too? At the same rate as Los does? No, no, you're shiting me. That's impossible.
-
The thing about luck is that is never really set :V A 1 out of 10 chance doesn't neccessarily mean you're gonna get it 1 time out of ten tries.
-
Yes, but that's still equates to 100 times out of 1000.
Don't quote sample sizes to me.
For Every Rathian I kill that doesn't drop a plate, I will kill ANOTHER RATHIAN. I'm not even joking.
-
I've heard the Rathalos Plate drop rate is like 1/500 or something like that. Hell, I've never heard the same number twice.
.....soyeah.
-
I'm highly doubting a 1/500 chance. Even Rubies and the like from last games had at least a 1% drop rate.
In other news, has anyone else noticed the sheer number of outside references and easter eggs during the dialog in the game? I know I hit a couple that were suspect for me, but with this one I KNEW it couldn't be a coincidence:
For those who don't get the reference (http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/5916/keikakuo.jpg)
-
I thought of the same thing at that point, but I didn't get a picture. I do wish I'd thought of it~
-
Yeah, I remember that retarded subtitle. Got a chuckle out of me
-
Saw that too. Sneaky Capcom. Also oppai isn't censored herp derp, but tits is.
~ Sigh tried to do a Diablos and I got knocked out all 3 times. I feel like a noob.
I basically get 2 shot by any of his attacks.

Just got to 3 Star quests the other day, and working on Kirin Hotness 2.0 the Barioth set. Evade + 2 makes me salivate.
-
Its k I killed him today. It's a lot easier with the full 4 instead of 3 and there isn't a Rathian taking up the same space.
Also lol at this Jhen event quest. Everyone can get Jhen gear no matter the HR.
OH and now I have 5 snowflake plants.
-

Whatever happened to "Stripperific for both sexes?" The rest of us enjoy fanservice, too, Capcom!

If we can trade something I'd give ya one. At least now I have some money also.
There seems to be a bug for me that shows the reward cash at only about 1000 when its really 8000 or anything more.
Anyways I'm sitting at 46k now. I need materials!

Holy crap. I don't think i've ever had that much money at once. O_O There's always something for me to buy.
I don't think you can trade Snowflake Plants or other furnishings. Aren't the rarities too high?
-
Oh forgot about that. The plants have a rarity of 5 which in monster 1 the max you could trade was like 3.
Funny because the only thing I have produced with fine art is five star plants. So much for being rare.
-
I would have 200K by now if it weren't for the power and armor charms opening up to me online ~<3
And yeah, you can't trade anything unless it's only 1 or 2 star rarity.
-
Great Jaggi set is almost complete, I just need a king's frill. Where to get? Also I'll have a rugged great sword incoming soon, so it'll be about time I dive into multiplayer.
-
Injure great Jaggi's head during battle and its a 35% extra drop from rewards.

-
You mean I need to be on a quest, any quest at all, to do it?

I guess you could hunt something else and get the drop but probably best just to do Hunt the Great Jaggi.
~ good lord Blood Sport is hard as crap, but I want this.

-
King's Frill can also be obtained from the Great Jaggi's shiny drop when it's limping away, though it's still a bit rare.
-
BAWWW there are only a few days left on Blood Sport and I only have 2 plans. ; _ ;
Sharq Attaq & HellHunter Jacket are next event items to get!
-
Holy crap
I'm rank 28
Why am I still fighting Gobul?
I had a complete Gobul set before I decided to sell it because it was worth nothing to me
He is the most boring and predictable monster to fight, yet also rather tedious.
There's no point other than I can't actually find anyone that can help with 3* Ranks :<
-

If I were anywhere near being able to get that, I'd grind for it now. I'm still only HR4, though... And I've hit a bit of a wall offline, so I'll probably just solo some stuff online later today.
-
That sucks Jana cause once event quests end I don't think they ever come back around.
I have 10 plans now. Trapping gives you a lot more plans than killing.
-
I doubt that they would permanently route off all of their extra items and the event quests that go with them. They just want to make them limited, to give people a reason to stick around after they beat the regular game.
-
I have my Barioth armor, all is right in the world. *_* Also, just unlocked Ceadeus in single-player. Anyone fight him yet?
-
Haven't done Ceadeus myself but watched my brother kill him a bit. Has best boss music in the game.
Seems I'm cursed to do Jhen forever. Done him 5 times today for other peoples urgents and when it got to my turn the ship blows up.
-
D'oh. I don't know if I'll have much time to play more MH before ACen. What HR do you need to unlock the urgent? I'm currently still rank 3, mid 20s.
-
At 30 is the jhen urgent quest then you can go onto expert severs.
-
I unlocked the 2-star quests in Online mode because I hit a wall at Lagiacrus offline. I'm still only HR 9. :v I did play with some neat people today though!
Also, from what I've read, Capcom will have the event quests on a rotating schedule. That way, if I'm at too low an HR for quests, I can get up there by the next time they come around.
-
Yeah, Rotating Schedule seems to be the case. On the 15th, the new Event Quest is going to be a match versus not one, but two Barroths (Very likely simultaneously, ala the Double Royal Ludroth fight that was present earlier). Victory nets you a piece of the HellHunter Jacket - which is a really damn sexy black leather jacket with three slots and +5 to Survivor naturally. There's also a white version to come from a later event, which gives +11 to Survivor, but doesn't come with any slots. Oh, and there's a pair of leather pants coming too... and some awesome shades...
Suffice to say you'll look out of place, but damn good BV
...Well, if you can take on TWO GODDAMN BARROTH anyway (And there's no telling what the other event challenges are going to be ;-;)
Also: You can invite people into the Jhen Mohran urgent if they're at 27 or above, apparently. I've still got a few HR to go, but I'd come along if I could XD ... in the meantime I need to keep farming Lagiacrus to get the last Horn I need to complete its armor set... and hunt Diablos and Rathalos... and probably forge myself a few other weapons... sigh.
-
I can take 2 Barroths offline with ChaCha, but they were only together for a little while. Fighting two Barroths in an arena-like setting seems nightmarish. :ohdear:
Also, I finally took down Gigginox with major difficulty today. I'm still not sure if I'm ready for Lagi, so I'll probably head online to up my HR some more. I'm 9 now, so I could do that easy Gobul event...
-

Could be worse, there were those Silver Rathalos/Gold Rathian combos from Unite. :3
Though I think I remember seeing an event quest that was Diablos + Another Stupidly Annoying Monster in the arena before.

I wouldn't worry too much about your first attempts at fighting Azure Royal Ludroth. He's a bit Nasty underwater, but nothing you can't handle with some thunder resistance and learning to down upwards/downwards instead of left or right.
Though I think I remember seeing an event quest that was Diablos + Another Stupidly Annoying Monster in the arena before.
You mean Jay Leno Urugaan.
Actually, to be honest, the Jay Leno joke is tiring. If Capcom decides to recycle monster designs, I Hope they make a Red version of Urugaan, so I can finally fight the Crimson Chin instead :3
-
Anyone free at the moment? I'll need as much help as I can getting some HR points to get the Lagi urgent. I'll be playing for the next 3 hours or so.
Name's Nekomata , ID is JABGMQ

Go my HR to 14-ish today. Gotta do some capture quests online to get the next Urgent... I think I could do Lagi Urgent offline now, but I think I'll wait and get some new gear online first. Completed my Barroth set, going for Gobul now.
Also, I should play with my female gunny character more often. People seem to like support gunners, and I don't blame them. The nice ones with real skill are always nice to have around~<3

EDIT: never mind, no I'm not.
I saw you online, but every time I sent a message it said you were in a quest.
Also failed my urgent mission twice, but I forged the hell jacket thing. Still need 3 tickets and 3 r. ludroth coin fro the sharq lance.
-
Ahah, sorry for making it so hard for you to contact me. If it helps, I'll hop on #MotK-Guildhall next time I go online or something.
-
I now have 7 iron sword+ thanks to rust shards.
-
That would go wonderfully with my Hunting Knives.
The only Rust Weapon I got was a GIant Sword. I'd be much more dissapointed if I hadn't been tooling around on a No Offline, Starting Weapons only character. Knowing how the Charge Shot works and that it's the most powerful skill a GS has really improved my opinion of them.
-
I got a Sharq Lance today, and I used that awesome water damage to start work on my Hellhunter's jacket. I should have it later today or tomorrow, and then get back to regular HR grinding...
Also, I do think the event quests were scheduled with the intent of letting people get the Sharq Lance for usage in the 2 Barroth quest. How nice of them~
-
I almost have the lance. I still need 1 ticket and 4 coins. I'm not looking forward to grinding those coins.
Also upgrading non + armor is such a waste. Every piece of ingot + has 1 more dragon res point than level 7 ingot,
and the hands and belts I believe have 3 gem slots instead of only one.
And I am broke once again with only 3k gold.
-
I got lucky and only needed 3 goes to get the five coins because I got 3 in my first win. I think it's random since I did shitty with the SnS and GS, and I got 3 coins with SnS and 1 with GS... And then i owned with Hammer and got 1 coin anyway.
-
Yeah tickets and coins are pretty crazy with their drops. I've gotten 7 hell hunter tags in one run and somethings 0 in others.
Got my 1st rusted weapon today. Its a Great sword after getting 8 iron sword+.
Alright I got another one! Now I can dual wield Rusted GS's for GREAT JUSTICE!
Now I got the Ancient GS so those rusted ones are now useless.
-
I just bought a Wii and Monster Hunter Tri last Friday. Last thing I did offline was that driving off the Lagiacrus urgent quest. As for online I'm still trying to get enough points to reach HR 8 and move onto the rank 2 quests. Grinding the same 3 monsters over and over again is getting pretty boring though. But at least Nobu and Jana have been helping me out the past few nights when they were on. Thanks guys. :)
-
Wish more ian users would use the demonic blessing that comes with the armor.
Had a guy using it with a great sword. We downed pretty much everything up to ian in under 5 minutes.

Lol, seriously? Me and a few friends have been farming rusted weapons, and so far only one person has had any luck. And they got two rusted greatswords. :derp:

Wait, demonic blessing? ??? How is demonic blessing ever a good thing to have?

Sometimes increases damage taken. 25% chance of attacks doing 30% more damage
The description kind of sucks, but that's damage done to monster not yourself.
Basically just about every time the guy hit ian something would break off or ian would get knocked down.
So everyone pretty much killed the thing with no fight.

I'm usually not so blunt, but you are completely mistaken. Demonic Blessing increases damage *you* take, not damage you deal to the monster. It's the inverse of Divine Blessing, which gives you a 25% chance to reduce damage you take.
Think about how ridiculous that is. That's a skill that would give 25% affinity+ flat, with no drawback, as part of getting a skill in the negatives? On Rath armor no less?
There's a reason you don't see people with that skill on their armor, because they gem it out. It's a drawback, not a benefit.

Well that's what I thought too, but I'm more than sure Demonic blessing makes you take more damage but you have the chance to deal more out, and divine blessing make you take less damage but you deal out like a pansy. G rank ians don't die in 3 minutes to a single person wearing ian with a cataclysm GS using no demondrug or mightpills without something else.

Check Reign of the Rathalos's Damage Calculator. Check any and every faq, guide, damage equation calculator, and any places that has people talking about Monster Hunter, good armorsets and skills, optimum damage, or anything. There is absolutely nothing out there i've seen that would even suggest that that demonic protection does what you claim it to do. Hell, even the in-game description doesn't even support your statement.
I'm sorry if I'm being rather adamant about this, but from my viewpoint it's like you're trying to tell people that Mega Potions don't recover HP.
-
Well I know of demonic protection in MH2 really sucks and does as you say, but I think people are missing out.
Capcom may have changed the mechanic and most people don't realize it yet.
As for me this is kind of like saying I saw big foot taking a dump in Moga woods so I can understand.
-
Nine out of Ten Anonymous agrees that you're on crack, Cadmas.
The Tenth was JDMalkavich, and therefore saged the thread calling everyone casuals, but a voice is a voice none-the-less.
It's a Negative Skill. Negative Skills are never suppose to be helpful, ever. Not even on accident. Unless Capcom screwed up coding somewhere, while technically possible, would definitely not be intentional.
Tell me, though, was the guy you were fighting with using an Ancient/Rusted GS? I Know I could probably down everything in five minutes once I upgrade my Rusted GS to it's last level without an attack buff.
-
Yeah, the damage those things can put out is sick. Especially if you get Artisan and purple sharpness, which is a flat 25% damage boost from White sharpness. Essentially like having 100% affinity.
As for me this is kind of like saying I saw big foot taking a dump in Moga woods so I can understand.
Wait you saw that too :o
-
Na hes using a Cataclysm Blade and ian+ armror. The guys name is william should be about hr 40+
Has this obsession of going after Deviljo. Seems pretty confident he can solo him.
Aside from that I have the Epitaph Blade now!
-
Versus Rathian, that blade is the tenth best weapon statistically, and is the final upgrade of the Ludroth GS Path, having 768 Raw with 450 Water, and blue sharpness (White with Sharpness+1)
compared to the blade I have now, which only has 720 Raw, 330 Dragon, and green (Blue with Sharpness+1)
I'm sort of Jealous...
-
I'm not even past rank 3 yet. :< Still HR27. Haven't had much of a chance to play in the past few days..
-
Nobu should help me with the Lagiacrus Urgent and get me to HR 18 later today. That is, if Val and I don't do it first. >;3
Actually, I should play more with my HR2 female gunner, Jana. I want pretty armors~
This brings me to another point. Since a lot of my online play has been with random groups, I've found Tri's online play to be kind of like an MMO, except without me able to type very quickly. I've been in some great groups, and a few terrible ones. A couple that stand out would be the two-man (well, 1 man and 1 woman) team I first took down Barroth with, as well as the lousy gunner who thought two lancers should do something other than cover his ass underwater. How've you guys dealt with bad groups, and do you remember any really good ones?
-
I don't usually get bad groups. Sometimes bad players. They usually leave of embarrassment when they die 3 or 2 times in a row.
-
I actually haven't done a single quest with anonymous people from the net, all the people i've been playing with have been my friends. With the exception of a few random people who have joined us from time to time, but they've usually been pretty decent.
Sorry about not being around to help you with the Lagia urgent, Jana. :< I passed out really early last night.

WHEEEEEEEEEEEE (http://www.capcom-unity.com/snow_infernus/blog/2010/05/25/fun_with_monster_hunter_tri_-_devil_of_the_hill)
Hr 50
Rusted SnS
So I have killed the mighty butt bag Alatreon. Boy is he really fun. Just great fun. /sarcasm
-
It was great hunting w/ you, Cadmas... even though I was heavily distracted during the Barroth quest.
Hopefully you can drop by at an earlier time of the day so we can actually hunt moar. :V
-
I'll be back on at about 10pm for today. nvm way too sleepy sry.
I'm almost done with my lagi set just need 1 horn+ and some scale+
I did about 7 lagis after you left SF.
Boy farming baggis with a HR 71 that wears armor just for the colors.
Got Plunderer title.

Actually Cadmas is right Nobu. I was just taking a look at the MH3: Armor Skill List on the Monster Hunter Wikia and according to this it does in fact give you a 25% chance of doing 30% more damage with your attacks. While Divine Protection on the other hand is a 25% chance of doing 30% less damage. Either way both seem pretty lousy to me. I mean having a chance of increasing the damage you take against an enraged monster (unless it's much weaker than you) sounds pretty suicidal to me. It's really more of an offensive skill while Divine Protection is defensive. Although despite that I'll probably wind up using it anyways as I love the Rathian armor so it's a given that I'll be using the + version when I'm finally able to get it.
Sort of unrelated but I was just checking out all the Rank 3 armors and noticed the Ceadeus Armor gives Demonic Blessing and Blunt Edge. So I was wondering what they do since it's been awhile since I last played Monster Hunter. Anyways, when I saw it I was reminded of this thread and how Cadmas had said it does have a chance to increase your damage output.
Scroll to the bottom of the list here if anyone wants to see for themselves http://monsterhunter.wikia.com/wiki/MH3:_Armor_Skill_List

You're still reading this wrong. ~_~; The exact wording, from the Wikia is "Sometimes increases damage taken. 25% chance of attacks doing 30% more damage" The first part describes the effect, the second part describes the *mechanical* part of the effect. As in, 'What does 'sometimes increases damage taken' actually mean?
Pay attention to the effect of having divine protection/demonic protection sometime. Once in a while when you get hit (25% of the time), you'll get sparkles around you to note that the protection ability procced. And you take more/less damage. If pretending like your *negative skill* deals more damage as a tradeoff makes you feel better about not gemming it out, then by all means.
-

Oh, well naturally I'm going to test this out for myself when I get my Rathian + armor. Since I love the Rathian armor so much I'm going to get it for sure. So we can see what the real truth is in Tri then when I get it.

The Speak of the Deviljho Event quest is a sick joke. To let Hr 31+ do a quest that's normally hr 51+.
They likely don't have the gear for it or the experience. What were they thinking?
~ Uggg just wanna play with my gun set, but ppl keep coming in my town.
Guess I need to go onto a server with no people.
~ Hr 70 & Dark Haunter title.

~BuBump
July month
New Arena Quests
New Event Quests coming up soon, but still unconfirmed.
Also like to ask who are those people you play with SF?
Are they motk members or just friends?
-
They're all local friends. I should definitely be on tonight to attempt some 6*s
Thanks again for helping me out with Alatreon.
-
Yeah that was pretty fun. Was the fastest Alatreon I ever did.
They're all local friends
Ah so it still seems you and zak are the only motk members I have played with.
Sea power event quest is up. Gets you a thunder LS. Yawn LS's. Me no likely.
