Title: TrackMania
Post by: wooterz on August 17, 2011, 03:59:36 AM
The TrackMania series is a racing game oriented around user-created content. Hundreds of thousands of tracks (http://www.tm-exchange.com/) have been created thanks to the simple and easy to use ingame track editor.

Trackmania Nations is essentially the demo version, which is free and contains only one environment. Trackmania United is the full version, and contains all 7 environments from the previous games (Original, Sunrise and Nations) along with various enhancements, each with their own unique style and car physics.

Racing in Trackmania is based purely on skill. There is no car setup and all cars in an environment are exactly the same. There are also no car collisions in multiplayer, allowing for well over 100 people to be racing on the same track on the same server. It's insane.

Download TMN off of Steam here! (http://store.steampowered.com/app/11020/)

Trackmania 2's Canyon environment is released in September, but they're having an open beta that you can enter if you pre-order at trackmania.com (http://trackmania.com).

Does anyone else play these games and love them as much as I do?

Balls I still have to complete Sunrise.

I got bored of Nations though, mainly because when I started playing I managed to rank 17th in the national rank, but then I completed all offline tracks and the brazillian-created tracks started becoming completely retarded.

I love the game's concept, but I wish I had 3D glasses and a wheel controller :V
The game must bve so fun with the 3D anaglyph on

I still play these games with the keyboard :V

Also I ranked 1st place in my state once...because I was the only one in my state that played the game :<

I was also the only American to get into the private beta for United :3

Me too, that's why I want a wheel :V

I really can't imagine playing a game like this with a wheel, it seems far too fast paced.

I played this game in the past, it's...Hard. XD Like, the IBWTG of racing games. It's interesting, but some of the levels make me question the sanity of some people, including the original creators. I also kind of get irked at how to cars turn, sometimes I can't turn them far enough to make a turn and keep my speed up for a hard jump...Yeah, it's a good concept but I don't see it as my kind of game. Unless someone is willing to gift it to me on Steam. :V

I still play TMNF. Usually this (http://i.imgur.com/rfiZo.jpg) happens when I try to get author medals (low graphics are low).
Unlocked every track except E04, and I probably never will unlock it. Freezone servers refuse to give me LP. Stuck at 2204LP, need 5000 for E04. Fuck you Nadeo.

I am definitely buying Trackmania 2.

That's the one I have turning problems with. :< Also, the custom-made tracks are as confusing as heck.

Sorry for double post and etc, but I've made a quick TM2 video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OY2vpkJAK5c&hd=1). You'd better like it because it took 6 fucking hours to render :\

ManiaMaidens?
Could work.

Won't suggest a name because I'm horrible at naming things (see: current shmup project is titled "SpessShooter")

And done. Group name is ManiaMaidens. PM me for the login and password and stuff.

Oh yeah, thanks to my new computer I was able to render this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k45dBnRFYmo&hd=1) in just under 7 hours. Woop.

In another note, custom car skins are rendered useless in Trackmania Canyon. The "track end result screen" has been changed in today's update and does not show any car.

Because let's be serious. Nobedy ever looks at skins while racing.

...there was an update today? I didn't get it...
Title: Re: TrackMania
Post by: Gc on September 05, 2011, 04:11:25 PM
nowait nevermind. Nadeo added a few track blocks in Beta 4, including a podium block. If there's one in the map, you get a shiny ending with every car displayed, otherwise you don't. Thing is, every track ever (except the 3 original Nadeo tracks) has not been updated/fixed.

Was thinking of getting Canyon, but I wanna know about the full version first. I'm sure there was a release date for the full TM2 game, but what if I bought Canyon first? Will there be a discount or something?

No it isn't, they'll be releasing the other envinronments later on, and when I was reading the forums someone mentioned having to buy each envinronment.
Not sure about that last bit though.

They'll be releasing Valley and <environment name here> later, for the same price, as well as ShootMania and QuestMania.

That is rather expensive for stuff, that could and should be considered DLC. Dammit, Ubisoft.

Could say the same for Modern Warfare series, Street fighter 4 and its expansions, etc.

That is rather expensive for stuff, that could and should be considered DLC. Dammit, Ubisoft.

Ubisoft has nothing to do with it. This is all NADEO's doing. It doesn't even use Ubi's bullshit DRM.

I'm not quite sure how this is going to work, as Nadeo hasn't really announced all that much, but from what I understand, they're doing this so they can basically make a game with as many environments as they want, higher detailed and with more overall content, releasing a new one around every 6 months or so and adding onto the older ones instead of releasing a totally new game every couple years.

This is not DLC. Any of the environments can be bought as standalone, i.e. you can buy Valley without having to own Canyon or any of the others they come up with. Also, if you're like me and bought Original, Sunrise and United, and they make 6 environments for this game, you'd be paying the exact same amount for quite a bit more content and be playing just as long. Not to mention the massive community behind this who makes maps like no tomorrow, and is still making custom content for a game that was originally released 7 years ago.

Okay, just got done with a 3-hour long session of the retail version. Holy cow, once you get the hang of drifting, this game is the business! Also, the video crash bug I've been having no longer seems to be a problem, though I did still crash when loading a track once.

A08 in solo mode is  :barf:

Look for Odda C. (oddboy) in game. I'll be playing around with the editor later. Maybe.

Okay, scratch what I said earlier; this game is still getting off on crashing on me and its not the video crashes from earlier, these are full blown straight up crashes. Sigh. :[

So far I absolutely hate the C tracks.

I tried Trackmania some time back, but I've always prefered LFS, personally.

The free servers on LFS got comical when they introduced a formula car alongside the beginners ones. Just sucks they took the turbo beginners car out in exchange, which was pretty fun to drive.

How exactly can you compare a full arcade game and a full simulation game? >>

I mean I like both, but that just seems kinda silly.

Post by: Kinzo the Astro Curious on September 23, 2011, 07:24:05 PM
well, it doesn't mean you can't have a preference of one over the other. They're still both driving games, as well.

I admit the two are indeed different things really, but I'm just saying which I prefer. I love the mouse steering option for people without a wheel, as it allows a good ammount of precision once you tweak the settings enough.

Title: Re: TrackMania
Post by: Kinzo the Astro Curious on September 24, 2011, 02:44:51 AM
Eh? personally I thought it works quite well if A) your mouse doesn't suck and B) you aren't using a touchpad (those suck) oh and C) set a custom view on LFS to display steering gauge, and to transparent the car from inside view showing the wheels. lets you know exactly whats going on visually, so its pretty easy like that.

Keyboard on LFS is bloody horrid lol
