Well expansions aren't "big" and "all-new" anyway, but yeah. It's most likely not gonna be an official title anyway, what with ZUN skipping this one.

Looks like they will release another Touhou game this time. Twilight Frontier has yet to say what their C87 project is, but they reminded us they'll also show up at Nov 16's Digital Game Expo.

There's still enough time for them to announce their new title.

I hope it's a puzzle game or a platformer. Because why not.

Is it going to be an official game or not?

Thanks in advance!

Considering ZUN's absence in this one, it's highly unlikely to be an official game.

No one actually knows. ZUN being absent doesn't exactly signify that much here.

Is that so? Which official Tasofro games have been released while ZUN's absent? The series' release history is one of the things I have zero idea about.

I would gladly subject myself to that merciless game again.

If it's MegaMari 2 I'm scrapping all plans for the 2015 East Coast Convention Touhou Panel Tour and spending my entire time on-stage talking about it.

The author of Tenco, the Touhou fighting game netplay stat tracking system has shared a diagram, showing the daily numbers of players who have submitted their games to Tenco over its history, or DAU (daily active users) in today's nomenclature.

According to him, the number of Hisoutensoku players have remained stable in 2014. The rest, you should be able to see for yourself.

Interesting that when HM came out Soku experienced a huge drop, but then when HM died off they didn't go back to Soku either. Well, I suppose it just accelerated the drop-off to the current stable playerbase.

Here's a fun report from Touhou Memory.

A Touhou-themed art exhibition "Touhou Art Festival" will be held in "Gallery You", an art gallery in Kichijōji, on Nov 22 and 23, immediately before the Autumn Reitaisai. Entry will be free.

The artists are: Utsugi, Koneneko, Koyoi, .COM, nisu, Misawa Hiroshi, and Megusuri.

The media are digital painting for .COM, Japanese traditional painting for Koyoi, and other Western styles for the other artists.

Make no mistake, one of the artists is different from the others. Six of them are young students still learning their trade; Misawa Hiroshi, however, is an oil painter with over 30 years of experience, known for his expertise in anatomy and dedication to education (plus willingness to draw Touhou, and intermingle with the nerdy Pixiv/NicoNico/Comiket crowd, of course!) Let's just say, you can buy his textbooks on oil painting and anatomy even in China.

Ōbari Kentarō, curator of the show said this about Misawa's "Ordinary Magician", the painting used in the poster above:
Quote
It's the largest painting displayed in our exhibition. You must see it with your own eyes to feel its power.

Here are your video games being treated like art.

Seriously, this is incredibly cool. I love what this series inspires sometimes.

I would love to see this in person, but I'm stuck on the other side of the planet. Is there a chance that there could be prints available?

Woah, Misawa Hiroshi's Touhou submissions on pixiv have a strong ZUN-esque feel to them, it's almost as if he was able to capture what ZUN had in mind when he was doing up his characters.
His choice of colours is just delicious as well.

And .com sure loves colours too.

For the coming Sunday's Digital Game Expo, the doujin circle Endless Shirafu (∀kashicverse) has set up a competition.

During the expo, players in this "Doujin Shooting Game Caravan" competition will play the STG games displayed at certain booths for score. Both their scores and a stamp imprint representing said booth will be marked on their score sheets. After having played at 7 or more booths, they will turn their score sheets in at the booth of Endless Shirafu. Repeated attempts are allowed: after turning in your score sheet, you can get another sheet and try again.

- Everyone with 7 or more stamps will get Reward A.
- Everyone who collected all stamps will get Reward A and Reward B.
- The top 3 players by 3:00 PM will receive a "big prize".

They've already got 14 doujin STG developers signed up, including Shanghai Alice. If you are going to drop by Akihabara this Sunday, this would be a fun thing to do.

EDIT:
This thread has reached 1000 posts. A new thread has been started here.
