I now can't help but fear the story might slide into yet another abyss of eternal misunderstandings and autistic characters that is a shitty romcom (https://myanimelist.net/anime/18897/Nisekoi). "Autistic" meaning exactly that, they are so bad at socializing they can't even talk.

That's what the last sentence was for. While I don't have anything against the socially awkward themselves, they don't tend to make particularly engaging romantic comedies, at least in most of the anime.

Okay, maybe I was too harsh here. What hurt in shows like Nisekoi were not misunderstandings, but rather the uncanny lenghts that had been taken to keep the status quo and prevent the story from going anywhere. Gamers!, unlike them, has an actual plot progression, so it doesn't feel like the same joke being kicked a bazillionth time (https://myanimelist.net/anime/32937/Kono_Subarashii_Sekai_ni_Shukufuku_wo_2), even though the misunderstanding is still there.*

Wrong pairings as usual, but enjoying so far(gotta wait for ep 8 til Thursday because I don't have premium services to see the current episode). Hilarious and cute, right up my alley.
