So, the Wiilease.
Good things!
+ Redone sprites are close enough to their originals that the change there didn't bother me at all, and they actually look quite nice.
+ Chatspeak was a cute touch.
+ Meltdown Remix
+ Jazzy Jenka 1 or 2 I forget either way holy shit this remix is awesome
+ Scorching Back Remix
+ Moonsong Remix (not actually better than the original but it was still pretty damn good so I'm willing to call that a plus) (This applies to Eyes of Flame and Last Battle as well)
+ Boss Rush upgrades are optional, allowing you to take it on however you like.
Bad things!
- Music actually STOPS during screen transitions and then picks up where it left off after the transition is over. Holy disruption, Batman.
- Kool-Aid-Balrog what the fuck
- Several mistakes in the dialogue really should have been caught by whoever QCed the script.
- Celebratory ITEM GET ditty cuts in after several seconds of silence and isn't nearly as fanfarish.
- Mischievous Robot remix
- "Bushlands"
- On To Grasstown Remix
- Cave Story Remix
- Ma Pignon question sequence is exactly the same. At the very least, they should have tossed this up a little bit from the original, if not randomized it entirely for each playthrough, just to make sure the player is paying attention.
- Momorin's dialogue is now about 800% less awesome than it was in the fan translation.
- Charge Remix god damn this sucked. I never thought I would have such vastly differing opinions of a 13-second song and a remix thereof but there you go.
Things I am yet unsure about!
* Curly Mode is cute but some of her dialogue is kinda awkward. She also sounds like a total airhead at times, and the random interjections feel more like a feeble attempt to remind you you're not playing pallet-swapped Quote than anything else ("Hi green guy!" made me laugh, however). You can still get Choco's lipstick, though. (Haven't tested to see what Quote gives you in place of Curly's Panties.)
* Speaking of Curly Mode, Quote actually talks once (he also gets an ellipsis later). He got a portrait for this. Lord only knows why he couldn't talk at other times if they were willing to let him talk that once. Either give him dialogue the whole way through or don't give him any at all.
* I'm far too used to the fan translation and some of the other deviations from that bothered me.
* Geothermal, Living Waterway and Balcony Remixes were interestingly atmospheric, but somehow felt a bit out of place.
* Running Hell Remix wasn't as good as the original but it's still miles better than the Super Mario World version I've seen running around lately.
