Title: The Embodiment of Scarlet Hair English Patch (Translators Needed!)
Post by: Agent of the BSoD on March 02, 2011, 03:08:52 AM
So with my recent love for Danmakufu, I wanted to make an English patch of this game because it's too awesome to ignore. :derp:
Also, it was very convenient that I just started studying C++ at my college, so this makes it greatly easier to understand.

I have some requests though. I will need someone to translate the dialog which I'll provide in a text document (http://www.mediafire.com/?pbn1w4gw67d17kt) / word document (http://www.mediafire.com/?4bw3054u4t8v25f) to make things simpler. Whoever does these, please make the translation have the same spacing like I did. (perhaps in a new document) It makes this much easier for me.

The spellcard names are already translated due to Jaimers91's donatic clear video. :]

I'll get the difficulty selections screen translated too but I'll still need someone~

The script can be dealt with, but translating the spell card names will require some work because they are images, not text. I'll most likely have to do that at my college's computers since my computer doesn't have a program that can handle transparent backgrounds. I tested this and I got a big white block at the top, so yeah. I'll have to figure out how to change that to text unless I can somehow manage to make text a set of images. Though when I look at it, under score, it's using images there too, but a different set, so I don't know if text will work yet.

Also, it would be nice to have the names of the songs be translated too, along with the little bit of text at the beginning of a stage before the dialog.

There is also an image of when you have 4 lives/bombs that replaces the counter. I have no idea what that's about.

Images to translate! (http://www.mediafire.com/?12ik88qjsx1qjn4)

Whew, that's a lot of things. :ohdear:

So yeah, my first English Patch! :o

EDIT: I knew I forgot something. Ronald's name title thing: word doc (http://www.mediafire.com/?tah8g9noc61opdo) / text doc (http://www.mediafire.com/?ild17gqia43x0e3)

Wait there's a Phantastic difficulty?

Also, there's spellcard practice?!

Why have I never known this?!  D:

It looks like spellcard practice is actually in the coding, but was never accessed. I guess they just didn't like the idea? (I don't even know if it's completed)
Also, phantastic difficulty is only in that one image, as best as I can tell. There is nothing anywhere in the code about that difficulty. :(

I'll go get to translating the images.
For now, Ronald's name title thing seems to translate into what looks like Remilia's title in TH06.

"Donald McDonald"
"Eternally Scarlet Insane Clown"

Shouldn't it be "Eternally Insane Scarlet Clown"?

I really can't tell.
It seems to be "Eternally Scarlet" from the order of the words. (永遠に紅い...)

Also, Touhou Wiki says that's how it was (永遠に紅い幼き月 -- Eternally Scarlet Infant Moon).

Yays! Thank you! I know nothing about Japanese so...

I still need to find some time to use my college's computers for the images. I'll do it eventually, whenever I get a break from homework, which may be spring break. :V Maybe.

Also, shouldn't I just translate his name title thing to: Ronald McDonald, instead of Donald McDonald? Makes more sense to me and other English speaking players. :V

Well, it's up to you.

BGMname.png - In order: "The Centennial Festival for Magical Girls", "McDonald was crazily dancing?", "McGirl ~ Clown's Secret Room", "Hot Milk's Scarlet Hair Incident", and "Supreme Devil Clown Ronald M"
FontImage.png - Change "4コ分クライ" and "4コ分クライ" to "4 lives in stock" and "4 bombs in stock", respectively.
RankImage.png - In order: "For amateur STG players", "Average Extra stage difficulty", and "For clowns"
StageTitle.png - The blue one would be "Insane Scarlet Clown ~ Lunatic Clown.", and the grey one would be "Serious Clown ~ Ronald Magic.".

SpellName.png & FontScore.png:
Note: the "blank" spell name is used before "Supreme Devil Clown" so it should have the same length between the quotations as "Supreme Devil Clown" does.

Other notes: "I'm loven' it" may have to be changed to "I'm Lovin' It". I don't know why lucol did that.

EDIT 1: Fixed a few typoes and changed a few things I thought would look better and closer to the original, for example "Mack the Ludo Bile" (Jack the Ludo Bile)

Welp, I figured out how to make the script not call the images for the spell names, but instead use text like most scripts do. The only issue I have with this is the text is red, not white. If there is a way to change that, it would look nicer, especially on the eyes, since red on near reddish background is harder to look at.
Hey, I don't have to edit images for this now! Maybe. Unless someone wants them that way.

Fake EDIT: Hey, it's not breaking replays either by doing that. Awesome!

Hey, can you upload a version of the script in unpacked (not .dat) form? :V
Unless that's illegal, of course.

It shouldn't be. After all, I got mine from the video description on Jaimers's Donatic Clear vid.
If I messed up, he messed up. :V

Anyway, why do you want it? I'll be happy to provide it but I'm not sure why.

I'd like to see how the hell lucol did this thing. Apparently the dnh file is a dat in disguise...

Ok, it'll be up in a few minutes via zip file. It's like a maze to navigate through too.
Also, I haven't translated much yet. Just his name and the first spell card since I'm testing that font out.

EDIT: Here it is. (http://www.mediafire.com/?911zc1a5gbhnl8i) Though I hope you have a way of navigating through C++ files, since that's what it's pretty much composed of.

Oh no no no, I see this is regular Danmakufu coding. :V You honestly think you can use C++ files in Danmakufu?

When you bunch them together like he did, then ya! :V
But yeah, I already tried C++ with danmakufu a little while ago, since I'm new to it and all.

I should post in the danmakufu Q&A if it's even possible to change the color of spell card text, since I haven't found anything helpful on the wiki about that particular issue.

By the way, how is it possible to unlock the last two spell cards? From the looks of it, it seems they are just there to fill up space!

Hmm, I see. Well, I've only played easy on this game (derp) so I'm not sure. Looking through the code for that is difficult and I'm not even seeing where it's calling the images for the spell names in the first place. Maybe those spells were left out?

Also, I found in the code that spell practice is indeed in there. There's an option for it on the title screen as well, though why it's not being implemented is strange. I'll have to look into this if I can.
Dunno, the code is pretty confusing to me still.
Also, sorry Jaimers. Phantastic was never implemented in the code anywhere. :(

EDIT: Oh hey, I got Spell Practice and Option to appear in the menu! (they're in the gaps between each of your three options there to make one solid column) Too bad though, because I can't use them because they're faded out.

EDIT: Ok, I see why I can't select them. I did find how to not fade them out, but the arrow keys still skip them. It's because, again, it wasn't implemented. They started it and had the options in earlier, but they never actually finished. (i.e. You could make them appear, but they carry no function, thus they're useless.) Darn. Well, it was good while it lasted.

Ok, well, I found where the images are being called for the high score table. By the looks of it, I'll have to redo the image for the spell names anyway. I was hoping I could make this easier by using text instead but they way he set this up, it'll be harder and more time consuming to do that.

:face-desk:

Ok, this is interesting. I'm finally getting in the spell card names into a new image, and have a question about one of the translations.

I'm trying to figure out if this is Chinese or Japanese: 布教
It was translated into Missionary ("Scarlet Church") from Japanese but this also translates into Chinese by saying Sermon instead of Missionary. The Chinese makes more sense but I don't know if it really is since it translates both ways.

I really can't tell. It might actually be in Chinese. I wonder if I can get BlueGraphics (from YT) to contact Lucol.

Whatever help you can get is wonderful! Or anyone else that could contribute would be greatly appreciated! I want to make this translation as accurate as possible. (Though it becomes hard when your translations don't match the ones on Jaimers's video but mean the same thing, so I have to pick) :V

Now I just need the in-game dialog translated and I should be good to go. (once that set of characters is translated though)

Also, I might leave that "I'm loven' it" the way it is. I could be persuaded to change it but I'm not sure as of yet. I'm not sure if lucol did that on purpose or not. (maybe as a joke of the way Ronald pronounced it?)

Value Set should be Value Meal.

Koreka Koreka should be something like "Is it this?"

"Criminal Burger" should be a portmantueax of sin/crime/etc. and hamburger.

Koreka Koreka should be something like "Is it this?"
I read somewhere that someone translated it to "This or this", so I wonder if that's a legal translation? I don't know so "Is it this?" would be fine if that's right.

"Criminal Burger" should be a portmantueax of sin/crime/etc. and hamburger.
So would "Hamburger Crime" be a good translation then?
I don't know portmantueax. :V

EDIT: Forgot it had Shoot at the end. :derp: That won't work.

Portmantueax means combination. Ideally as close to "hamburger" as possible given the original, but it might not work out as smoothly as planned.

Aha, I think I've got a good one for Koreka. I found a website randomly from Google, and it translated kore to "this" as what was mentioned above, and ka can mean a "price".

http://www.eudict.com/?word=ka&go=Search&lang=japeng

It makes sense to me, since he says koreka twice, so it would be Delivery Sign "This Price or This Price" along with him moving back and forth in two places on the danmakufu script.. Just want to run this through with you guys first in case that site and I made a mistake. ;)

Will fix in the list.
Will it work better as "This or That Price"?

"これか" could mean "This?" so it should be like N-Forza once said, "This or that?"

Post by: N-Forza on March 20, 2011, 01:09:11 AM
Um, no? The "ka" here is like a question mark. So a literal translation would be "This? This?" but you want to change it so it fits the situation better. In the original commercial context, Ronald is posing, right? So "Is it this?", "This one?" or "Like this?" would be OK.

Ok, koreka koreka is all sorted out. Still need some verification about those characters being Chinese or Japanese.

Also, I was going through possible scenarios for the crime & hamburger spell, when I remembered the Hamburglar (http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Hamburglar) (uncyclopedia used since wikipedia has not much on him). Sine his name would make sense, being hamburger and burglar together, I was wondering (again) if he is a possibility for the spell name. It's probably not, so I might end up using something like Hamburger Crime Shoot or something similar.

After that, all I need is someone to go through the dialog also and then we're set. (after I fit it in, of course) :P

what

They're katakana. Pretty much purely Japanese.

But "Hamburglar Shot" (not shoot) should work. Good thinking.
