Schedule's up! (https://gamesdonequick.com/schedule)
Sadly, the personal-preference games I'm most interested in are at inconvenient time slots (Metroid Prime 2 6% run - why was this stuck in the middle of the day Tuesday???, MegaMan Network Transmission, Mighty No. 9, Cheetahmen), and I disagree with the choice of show-closer (the third-to-last game would have been much better imo), but there's still some great stuff to be had. The DKC Trilogy Relay in particular has me committed, and that Super Metroid 100% race lineup is sure to put on a fantastic show. Also looking forward to the SMB Warpless race and the KSS 100% race.
Also Tetris with Cardcaptor Sakura hell yessssss
-
Awwww yeahhhh, finally something good to help me relax.

Shame man, i guess you can always watch the youtube uploads, albeit it is definitely not like watching it live, can't you even use something like a mobile device or something to watch ?

I can tell you with certainty that if you like Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door you will not be disappointed with Almo and Sjorec running it Thursday night. The last time it was featured was SGDQ 2014 and since then the run has gone down two and a half hours thanks to various amazing tricks found since then, and the run was already really entertaining back in 2014.
-
Hey guys look at the Friday the 13th 2am EST/11PM PST slot :P
-
Finally a GDQ event that features the mighty Daikatana! Other than that, I wonder what catastrophic RNG failures will the Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword speedrun bring about.

Absolutely 0, I can attest to this the run is completely luck based and absolutely nothing about it is rigged nope

PX become meguca

Oh snap, I missed that entirely. Congrats! Sucks that you're at a hard-to-watch time slot for most viewers, though.

Oh my ! I am looking forwards for that, do your best !
*Chibi Yggdrasil blesses your run for good luck.*

besides being at a terrible time >:(

>January 8th
The wait is real.
-
That's a real strong first day. And then a whole lot of other things. :V
>Dark Souls 3
BITCH LEMME TELL YA HOW TO SPEEDRUN DORK SOULS 3 I almost say out loud at work, with a min-maxed-to-all-hell sorc build mugenmonkey layout page, three fextralife pages, one wikidot page, and two youtube vids open.
-
tfw the game I used to hold WR in is being run at a timeslot I'll almost certainly be working during (MM Network Transmission)
Also I remember being quite surprised with a number of picks and decisions this year, especially in terms of avoiding the 'usual suspects' in favour of more esoteric picks.

I personally think that Undertale as the finale was a stroke of genius which should prove to be very lucrative for the charity.

There should be a bid war between save the feels and kill the feels (you know what I'm talking about). :V

I can see them getting more money with WWHD > SM > UT than UT > SM > WWHD simply by having 2.5 hours more to rack up Save the Animals vs. Save the Frames donations. :V And there's probably going to be a lot of appeal to closing with an immensely popular game that has never been seen at a GDQ before.
But it's gonna go under 90 minutes, because these kinds of runs always beat their times, and maybe this is just me, but that takes a lot away from the tension and the viewership investment. If something goes wrong, then that sucks, but it's not nearly as soul-crushing screwing up 80 minutes into a game as screwing up 210 minutes into a game. I don't give two damns about Final Fantasy 6 but the SDGQ 2016 run of it was incredibly nerve-wracking for exactly this reason.
I'm hoping to be wrong about this in the end, and I'm sure the show is going to be fantastic no matter what they do (they could have ended with Cheetahmen and still done great), but I can't help being cautiously pessimistic about it. I dunno. Maybe I'm concerned about nothing.

Same with Chrono Trigger the year before
And as far as I'm aware with UT runs there doesn't seem to be a whole lot you can mess up near the end
-
That too (though I give a lot more than two damns about CT, ahaha). I would actually submit that that CT run is the greatest GDQ speedrun in history, and the time investment is a non-trivial reason why.
-
Bumping instead of new thread because this starts in a measly 32 hours
-
So, are you already there, PX, or are you going to hold off until closer to your run?
Anyway, hype as shit, but I won't be able to watch nearly as much as I have in past years thanks to just now being moved over to full-time. Sleep deprivation may be a thing for me.

See you guys at the event.

I'll probably go back to my hotel early today, but we can try to meet any time. And depending on whether or not I get off work for MLK day I might see your run.

I had no idea Ocarina of Time 3D was equally if not arguably more broken than the original.
It is a pro-watch.
-
Oboy they are playing the pokemans tonight that is a favorite portable video game system form of entertainment of mine oboy.

I think many moons ago there was some mention of many of the glitches deliberately being left in the 3DS version. They may have just take out stuff that would make the game unplayable. Still, so far as I know, this is conjecture and I don't have anything to nail it down.
-
Wow, dat Sega Bass Fishing run...I haven't seen a clutch playthrough like that since F-Zero GX.
UPDATE: Loved Rocket: Robot on Wheels. I need to pick it up again sometime. The Super Monkey Ball runs were fine watches too. I missed some of the Pokemon Emerald run, but coming back to see a LONELY NATURE RAYQUAYZA wreck the last stretch of the game was worth the loss. :3c
-
Oh, that battle against The Watery... Oh man.
-
I'll be on couch for Echoes, if only because nobody here is really qualified to be on commentary:P
-
Wait wtf 10AM that's such a garbage slot
for me

Two runs were moved yesterday so a lot of stuff got bumped up

Make sure to snag the Reimu plush and wave it around
(Also Echoes really should have been an evening slot game)
-
They didn't read my donation but shoutout to Couch PX
Also goddamn that was incredibly difficult and stressful to watch at home, I can't imagine what it was like to play or even just be on the couch for it.
-
I have never played any Prime game before :^)

Just found out that I'm getting Friday off, so I'm definitely going to PX's run.
-
Mighty No.9 run was perfect. Hope the VOD grabs my donation at the end as well. Easily one of the most hype runs so far.
-

There's still room on the couch :V

Sure, I wouldn't mind snuggling on the couch.
-
Best runs so far? I've missed a lot while sleeping off magfestflu :(
-
Super Metroid Rotation was the most entertaining of the (admittedly few) runs I've seen so far. The Prime 2 6% run was edge-of-your-seat for over an hour straight, though.
-

Just bring a dress shirt/pants for the run :V

Oh hey flubuddy how have the full-body aches and ferociously aggressive cold sweats been? I'm going through some of the stuff right now. I will say the Sega Bass Fishing run was 7 minutes well spent despite having no relation or interest in the game or subject matter at hand. Also seconding the Metroid Prime 2 run.
-
Well it's less Magflu and more Mag-wobbles-and-GP-flareup-with-a-side-order-of-conplague-stomach-grossness but that's not as catchy a name.
(thank you flu shot for working this year..... so far......)
I did catch the SMB1/LL races which are always a treat. MJP really wanted to watch Daikatana but holy smokes that game is U G L Y even by late 90s PC gamer standards.
I've got to mosey off to class in a bit but that's just enough time to plow through some of the AWFUL GAMES BLOCK AWW YE

I missed flu shot day at work and now I'm salty over it. Mostly salty with my sea of sweat ugh.
Kirby and Lozenges: Little P tonight. Looking forward to a handful of games already run at inconvenient hours winding up on youtube.
EDIT: Listened to these all day at work and watched at lunch. Mega Man X run is legit and has a few bits of amusing commentary. Trauma Center run had some great teamwork. Final Fantasy run shaping up good so far. Secrets of Grindea is... a good advertisement for the game for anyone who liked the old SNES/PSX Square action RPGs.

OH CRAP THAT'S RIGHT if you haven't already have a look at Axiom Verge! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hw1dCNBXc3A#t=100s) Don't think you've played it yet and was reminded about it a couple times during MAGFest. Figured it'd be up your alley.
-
Ooh, that does looks good! Thanks for the rec. I'll look into it this weekend.
-
Just bring a dress shirt/pants for the run :V
well, that I can't really do. Didn't bring any with me, not unless I run out somewhere to grab some.
-
THUMBS UP
Now I gotta catch up to all these VODS
-
This Fire Emblem run.
Holy shit so many crits.
-

I hate Kirby lol

Defeat him.
-
Holy fuck TASBlock outdid itself this year
-
Holy fuck donations are exploding after the reveal of the Namco-Bandai prize. :o
Edit: Roughly from $1.17 million to $1.25 million and we haven't started Dark Souls.
-
2 million jfc
-
Final total, a little over 2.2 million. This is almost 50% the amount donated in the previous highest event, at $1,576,085.00.
Wonder how they're gonna beat this one...
-
What an awful finale
-
Did something happen after the Undertale stuff? I went home at that point and missed it all.
-
They just massively flubbed the ending video. First time, it cut near the end, the second time, it cut seconds in.
-

I'm not sure how it was for the streamers, but for us in the crowd we couldn't hear any audio.
-
2 million jfc
When I went to sleep they were joking about 2m after the 1m milestone
Let that sink in, actually - they got 1.5m of donations in 24 hours
-
I'm not sure how it was for the streamers, but for us in the crowd we couldn't hear any audio.
Our experience was how Zansetsu described it (I did catch a little bit of that stuff, at least).
There were also audio issues around the $2m mark where the sound crew just...refused to cut to the crowd audio for some reason. The video was showing everyone getting really excited for a long time, tons of movement and obvious cheering, while those of us watching at home were being treated to some incredibly unrelated calm soothing music from some game I already don't remember. We only actually got a meaningful amount of crowd audio with less than $1000 to go, and then the audio cut back away 5-10 seconds after the mark was surpassed.
That's my only real complaint about yesterday, though. That and maaaaaaybe the TASBot vs. Gradius Round 2 video wearing out its welcome by the end, but I can't actually seriously complain about anything TASBot-related.
Let that sink in, actually - they got 1.5m of donations in 24 hours
Big ups to Bandai-Namco for that $125-bid prize package. I wouldn't say it single-handedly pushed the donation total to upwards of $2m, but it was almost certainly the main driving force. All of the massive donation spikes coincided with it getting advertised.
-
Wow, didn't know there were that many issues behind the scenes. Still, the big finale for me was the Undertale stuff. That game is incredibly good at making you feel invigorated and DETERMINED, even when you're in a Genocide run. Heh.
Here's hoping Summer GDQ will go a bit smoother!

Just saw PX's Grief Syndrome run, good stuff :V
