Title: A thread about Giboshi
Post by: GiboshiGER on March 24, 2013, 02:28:13 PM
Hello everyone and welcome to my life long dream thread.
In here I will post ..., well, my progress on a danmaku game I am going to code ( somewhere in the near future). Please note that I am a newbie in programming, in digital drawing and not so much of a newbie in music ( been playing the piano for a few years now).

Here you can ask all types of questions or comment on anything I will post ( If the administrators are okay with that).

Stuff that I will post:  Images, videos, and of course, the music.

My first game (hope I have the courage to follow my projects) will be named 儀星 (Giboshi) (Gi + hoshi).
If I follow trough, it'll be coded in C++.

Why am I looking to create a Bullet Hell game you may ask?
Simple answer: I've always wanted to create my own video game, but I could never figure out what kind of game I should create. Now I know: Danmaku, because Touhou Project is quite simply the best series of video games I've ever played.

The game will be in danmaku style, but I'm going to add something that ZUN didn't add to his games - but that will remain a secret - unless of course you're dying to know.
Also, aside from the gameplay style, the game will have no relation to TOUHOU project whatsoever, It'll feature my own story, my own characters and my music.

When will this beauty be complete?
If you want the truth, well, you can't handle it, oh wait a second.....  yes you can, in 5 years or so. I still have a lot of programming to learn.

I'm an 18 year old portuguese guy  buy the  name of Jo?o Guerreiro, but that's too hard to pronounce... and to spell, hence my nickname GER.

Personal info ( just in case you're curious) :

I LOVE Touhou project ( obviously);
I love learning the japanese language;
I also love the rubik's cube , twisty puzzles and all that stuff (in some countries the rubik's cube is known simply as "magic cube").

Cool! I'm currently slowly working on a game engine for making danmaku games (also just normal shoot 'em ups), but I haven't done a lot with it so far.  I've made a couple of posts in the Programming Thread (http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,14433.0.html) about it, but I haven't gotten much done.

Feel free to ask me too, I added some danmaku features in my platform game :P

And what translation of 儀星 are you considering? Ceremony Star?

Welcome and good luck with your dream project. Curious to see later one some alpha/beta screenshots. Most important thing is to keep enjoying it.

Updated with more information.

Also, I've just created two (not so good) songs using my piano and a soft synth. (I'm still a newbie)
Feel free to listen to them.
I know they are crappy, but I think I'll be able to create something good from these songs if I just try harder.

This one is supposed to be Hishi's theme.

And this the extra stage theme.

Time to turn Garbage into wonders.

I admire your courage to post stuff like that. I'm always hesitant to post anything I created on fear I'll be criticized harshly for it, so good for you!  :] The progression on both is a bit off, and they're kind of repetitive, but I'm sure you already knew this.

Seems interesting. Hopefully this makes some progress and actually becomes a playable game.~

They're both repetitive so I guess they're easy to loop! (Just kidding  :ohdear: )

They have the same sound signature so I guess they could be combined into a single piece, and break up the repetitiveness a wee bit.
But I do too feel the pacing needs a tad more work. Maybe you should try thinking of an emotion that you want your player to feel when listening to your piece, and tailoring your melodies to achieve that feeling?

I'm just riffing.

Go, you!  :blush:
