Title: Hey guys! Let's talk about reporting posts.
Post by: Letty Whiterock on May 07, 2009, 07:18:16 PM
Hello! My name is Letty Whiterock, and not only am I the best Stage 1 boss this side of Gensokyo, I'm also a global moderator at these prestigious forums! You guys are a blast to have near-complete control over, and without you, I wouldn't even have a job! So special thanks to all of you Maidens of the Kaleidoscope users for making it possible! Now that I have your attention (and hopefully your undying love), let's have a little talk about a problem we seem to be having. Might as well nip this in the bud before it gets out of hand.

I'm a pretty excitable snow lady, and when I receive a new e-mail, I am overcome with joy! Hurray! Unfortunately, I've been received quite a few impersonal e-mails as of late, some of which come from this very board. Oh well! I am a moderator, after all! It's my job to moderate the forums and handle reported posts efficiently and swiftly. But what's this?

It seems that we of the moderation crew have been receiving notifications for things that don't actually need reporting! *gasp* This will not do! So, my lovelies, let's talk about the DOs and DON'Ts of internet civilian policing!

Things that you should report so you'll invited to the Christmas party:

Things that you should not report so you don't end up on the receiving end of the shaving cream bomb:

Please take this to heart, children, and I hope that you and I will have a understanding for today and for forever! <3 Enjoy your stay at MotK!

What about threads that are located in the incorrect forum, or threads that shouldn't exist/belong in Cirno's perfect math class?

Those were just examples.  The moral of the story here would be "use common sense."

Ehh ... if it were all that common, we wouldn't need threads like this, but I understand the point.

Best stage 1 boss... how presigefull. 8)

Well, i'm almost never offended so i hardly take notice if anybody is breaking the rules. The transgression might even be good for a laugh.

Oh and all of you: Don't even think about reporting me. I'm a birdbrain so i can't help it.

Sure, just don't be "too" stupid. There is a line to cross there, trust me.

Yeah, i know. I'm usually a nice birdbrain though so i don't think i would get in too much trouble out of my stupidity though.

Fair enough. And I have to say, I love your way of describing the thoughts of people before pressing the dreaded 'report' button^^.

Keep up the good work dear Letty!

Not to spoil the party, but an on-topic question:

Do you guys want us to report posts?  I mean, most of the time I'd feel like a whiny little twerp for running to the mods with every problem; an ideal forum management (or the idealized little picture in my head) would...I dunno, deal with these sorts of things on their own.  Do you guys actually want us letting you know about problems, or is it all just so much whining?

and read the first post thoroughly; be reasonable about reporting

We can't fix what we don't know.  We don't quite have dedicated mods for every section yet.  It would be IMMENSELY helpful if you report it.  You're not going to get in trouble for reporting too much, unless you're like flooding our report boxes with "moogy said hi BAN HIM".

Someone had a really long name that stretch the forum (although it look better that way O_o), reportable?

Might as well ask should I report anti-something/concept topic that generated uncomfortable amount of anger/hatred toward something/concept?

Yes and yes. Page stretch is dumb and hate speech is, well, yeah.
