-EoSD Reimu and Marisa's shot types imitating some other shmup (whose name escapes me~)
-Sakuya being a homage to Dio Brando

Thread because today my friend was playing Hellfire on the Genesis. Guess what shot types it has?
Red: Forward
Yellow: Backward
Green: To both sides at 90 degrees
Blue: X-shaped at 45 degrees

I think Gengetu Rape Time is based off of something from Cave, but I wouldn't know for myself. Maybe the Nicovideo comments are just saying that it's LIKE Cave.

Dodonpachi's pattern differs (mostly) in that the aimed shots are small (and there aren't adjacent shots based on the angle of the aimed ones), and they're repeated at a faster rate

So MoF Marisa A is taken from Gradius huh? Why don't ZUN steal some actually good shot types hmm?
Well actually i have spotted some things ZUN used in his games during my survival horror journey through the jungle of non-touhou shooters.
When i paid DoDonPachi a visit, i saw something very much resembling the arrowhead bullets introduced in PCB and also something that could remind of the nuke bullets of SA.

Sakuya's character design seems heavily based off of the Seihou character Muse (who just happens to be my avatar because she's awesome). She came from Kioh Gyoku, which was released in 2001, one year before EoSD. She has short grey hair and a blue/white frilly dress. She also happens to use knife throwing and manipulation of cursed marionettes(Alice?) as the base for her danmaku. So that makes Yumeko, Dio Brando, and Muse. I guess Sakuya is just a big old bag of homages isn't she?

This is kinda random, but who's the final boss of Kioh Gyoku? I really don't know.

:P Muse is the final boss of Kioh Gyoku. And an absolute bitch of a final boss at that. Her fight is known to last longer than all the other matches in the game put together. She's also the penultimate boss of Banshiryuu's extra, and arguably the hardest boss in that stage too. It should also be noted that her theme in Kioh Gyoku is one the most bad-ass things that ZUN has ever written (imo of course). Did I mention that she is awesome?
Edit: Hmm, that's interesting. It seems that in BSR you can make items on the screen auto-collect by grazing bullets. You know, like that one Touhou game. What was it called again?

The music of the 1st MOF stage is supposed to be a reference to gradius or another oldie (someone talked about it in the mof thread when the game was released).
Also ZUN said somewhere in the bonus text that there was some references to his 1st games in there too.
