Title: Reitaisai 14 - 7th May 2017
Post by: CenturyEgg on January 22, 2017, 03:21:58 PM
Some of the preparations for Reitaisai 14 have begun appearing on twitter, so I'd figure I'll open up the thread once again... Discussion thread for those who are planning to make the trip down START!

It is kinda crazy but this time there are 5-6 people I know from Singapore making the trip up the Reitaisai. They aren't in the forums though, so I don't think I intend to wrangle them along to a MOTK meetup if they do not volunteer themselves for it. Some of them are veterans to con-going in Japan so I think they'll have their own schedules and itineraries.

Ayy it'll be my first Retaisai. I'm so excited.

Can't wait to meet some of you...even though I'm laughably inactive here........ orz

My schedule don't be nailed down until they announce if my circle will be accepted, but I'll definitely be around before, during, and after the event in some capacity.

@Forza, any chance there'll be another Far East "Jamming" night? I'd definitely want to attend again if it happens haha.

Just confirmed my travel dates and booked tickets. I will be in Tokyo from the 4th to the 11th of May. I'm looking for accommodations around the Oimachi area as it is nearer to Big sight and easier for me since I intend to cosplay at Reitaisai once again.

Edit: Booked hotel near Shinagawa seaside station 2 stops away from Kukosai Tenjijo Station (Rinkai line). Good god the hotels bookings are already thinning out. I'd recommend reserving your accommodation ASAP if you want to keep prices reasonable.

I'm planning on showing up again, hopefully minus the jaundice this year! I'll be bringing a friend along though, and a lot of my Japanese friends like to plan stuff around reitaisai so I dunno if I'll be able to hang out much. I guess we'll see! I'll be at the event either way.

Reitaisai visitor, circly entry again. You'll be finding me shouting THANK YOU VERY MUCH in Japanese 1458473 times at Warugaki & Ryuuichi's booth (come and say hi).

Some shenanigans beforehand as usual.

Other than that, personal travel plans. Will hit Tokyo probably around 5th of May.

I think I'll go again for Sunroute at Shimbashi for Reitaisai, but a bigger room than last year. The single economy room is VERY SMALL. There is barely room for luggage. Also spending one night at Warugaki I think in western side of Tokyo. (hour by train from centre he said)

@Hungrybookworm
Great to see you again! Hopefully this time there are more opportunities to meetup and interact outside of Reitaisai (The number of things to see at the convention sadly limits the chat time)

@Helepolis
Oooh Shimbashi, I'm planning to hit Tsukiji market (assuming it hasn't gone under for renovations) for breakfast at least once when I am in Tokyo. Care to join for breakfast/brunch? It is pretty near your place and the quality of food there is excellent for the price.

I have it on good authority there will be another Touhou jazz concert the night before, although there won't be a formal announcement until details are finalized. I'll post it here when they are.

On the other hand, JAGMO is going to be having another Touhou performance on the 3rd, the Wednesday before the event. http://jagmo.jp/lp/yumemaboroshi/
I've already entered the lottery for the afternoon performance, but depending on the results I might try to get tickets for the other show if other people want to check it out but can only make it to the evening one.

Ahhhhhh I'll only arrive in Tokyo on the 4th... talk about bad luck. Defo will be aiming for the Jazz performance though. Maybe next time I should plan the trip time to encompass the entire of golden week so I don't miss out on other events I guess.

Update on the side of Reitaisai 14. For those who don't already know, the circle participants have been released!

http://reitaisai.com/rts14/?p=441

I expect the hall plan to be released in a bit so we can make battleplans, but for now, congratulations to all MOTKers who got their circle space! (As far as I know just Forza and Helepolis)

Hi there!

I'm presently living in Japan for some time (since last October, actually), and so I'd like to go as well!
But since I'm living in ?saka I'd also want to take the chance to sightsee around the capital.

How are your plans for meeting there? Is there anyone who is also coming for the first time and would also like to visit T?ky??

In any case, if I'm still in time, I also want to go to the jazz concert, @Forza!

... Even so, just today I found out that tickets are being sold since April 8th. I'll go to Melon Books in Den Den Town in ?saka tomorrow, I hope I'm not too late...

I also plan to visit Futaket, if anyone else is interested  :D

I can still request to include you for the concert. They aren't actually selling tickets anywhere; it's small enough they handle it through e-mailing them.

I might be a little busy to show you around in the days leading up to Reitaisai, but if you'll be around afterwards for a day or two, I might be able to make something work.

Then please do so, about the concert I mean  ;) Thank you.

And no, it's a pity but I've to come back to Japanese classes in ?saka just right the next day  :ohdear: But thanks anyway!

6-7 MOTKers this round... sounds like we have a good number for dinner?

Title: Re: Reitaisai 14 - 7th May 2017
Post by: Yukaris Glove on April 19, 2017, 10:10:25 AM
I'd certainly like to dinner with you folks too, even if I'm not an active user here at all. It's been so long since last time I could meet with T?h? fans in person.

Even so, I still don't know if I'm going to come back Sunday night or Monday morning.

EDIT: By the way, since this is my first time going, I've some basic questions, one being: I've heard that events like these are a "war" between attendees to get  really-limited material. But I think that's not the case with circles' CDs, right? Because I'm pretty sure I've seen some of the CDs that were released in the winter Comiket here in ?saka.

Getting to Team Shanghai Alice or Tasogare Frontier's booths (if they're selling a new touhou thing) before they sell out might be a challenge, but otherwise most popular circles bring enough stock to last a few hours into the event (in my experience, at least) and almost all of it is available in melonbooks or tora no ana afterwards. Popular doujin music groups especially seem to bring a lot with them. Last year I bought A-One's new CD on impulse in the last hour of the event, and they still had plenty of copies lying around, and Diao ye Zong still had a box or two of CDs left despite having a queue until the very end of the event. The ones you have to watch out for are the circles who only print 100 copies and don't put it in melonbooks etc afterwards, because sometimes they're more popular than they expect and sell out really quickly!

Talking of battle plans, I highly recommend this app (http://trivial-circlecheck.herokuapp.com/) to anyone currently planning their reitaisai swag routes. It lets you colour code the circles, has their names written in the spaces instead of just a number, and lets you print out the maps too. It is in Japanese and I think you need a twitter account to use it, but it's a life saver if you get lost all the time like me, lol.

Dinner hadn't even crossed my mind, but we'll want to get a hard number (not to mention what people are in the mood for) before the end of April so we can make reservations.

I'd definitely like to attend the dinner and Jazz show. I will be on vacation in Tokyo from April 30th to May 11th. I'd be happy to meet up with anyone for sight-seeing, game centers, karaoke. and general shenanigans.

Forza has graciously helped me with printing music CDs and by selling them at his circle! I hope to have a crossfade video, SoundCloud, and some stickers to hand out ready before the end of next week.

Post by: Yukaris Glove on April 22, 2017, 06:15:09 AM
Well, let's see. When would dinner be? Saturday or Sunday? I'll finally return to ?saka on Monday night so I'll be able to join even if it's on Sunday.

What do you guys usually do? Do you meet to go to the event and then go out together?

And I'd also like to have info on the jazz concert's location if possible.

Btw, do any of you plan to go to this?: https://www.melonbooks.co.jp/special/b/0/touhou_livebox/with_niconico/welcome/hello.html#top (https://www.melonbooks.co.jp/special/b/0/touhou_livebox/with_niconico/welcome/hello.html#top)
It's a concert of two days (Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th) with circles such as Butaotome, Y?hei Satellite, Cool&Create, IOSYS, Alstroemeria Records, etc. in neighbouring city Chiba. I'll be there. I'm even more excited for this than I am for Reitaisai! You can purchase tickets on Melonbooks. It costs 2500 yen for both days and 1000 and something for only one.

EDIT: Btw, only this year I started to pay more attention to T?h? arrange circles. I've making a list of circle I'd like to check for buying at Reitaisai. Thing is, my favourite circle till now was Tutti Sound, but it seems they don't exist anymore, right? Soo...

Would any of you know about good circles with similar "epic" orchestral arrangements? I also like grandiouse chorus to go along with it a lot  :D And I'd also like to find a good circle dedicated to good folk arranges, specially Japanese ones, like this one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yEDM-ogtBY&index=22&list=PLX72rAzHlG-BhOoC5bfEHHTxxQvZJOEXL (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yEDM-ogtBY&index=22&list=PLX72rAzHlG-BhOoC5bfEHHTxxQvZJOEXL)

... Or you could also tell me where is the right subforum to be asking this. Thank you!

Post by: N-Forza on April 22, 2017, 07:42:01 AM
Saturday is the concert so the dinner would have to be on Sunday. I have to go back to my place to drop off my circle stuff then I head back out to the restaurant, usually.

The concert is taking place in Shimokitazawa at Music Island O, but if necessary we can arrange meeting up at the nearby station (Shimokitakawa) and walk there together.

Choukaigi and therefore Live Box are the same weekend as M3 so I can't make it.

They usually group music circles by genre at the event so if you find one you like, you can go down a few more spaces in either direction for more along those lines, sometimes. Tokyo Active NEETs has a subgroup called Kokyo Active NEETs which is all live orchestra. I also heard good things about Fox Factory/Kitsune no Koubou too but I don't listen to them so I can't make a recommendation.
Title: Re: Reitaisai 14 - 7th May 2017
Post by: CenturyEgg on April 22, 2017, 01:52:27 PM
Fox factory and Melodic taste are definitely good choices, kokyo active as well. Wave is pretty good but their vocal sampling gets abit repetitive across albums.

Sunday dinner sounds good for me! Oh god I'm so excited hahaha

Post by: Yukaris Glove on April 22, 2017, 02:25:02 PM
Thanks for all the recommendations  :D

In any case, judging by what Forza is saying... do you actually have a chance to hear a sample of the albums in each booth?
Title: Re: Reitaisai 14 - 7th May 2017
Post by: N-Forza on April 22, 2017, 03:13:08 PM
Yes, most every booth will have a CD or media player for listening to their wares.

And I made the reservations for the concert. As for the dinner, did anyone have anything they wanted to eat in particular? I'll admit I'm somewhat curious about whale...

Hope you like mercury.

Also, whale tastes like stringy, tough, vaguely salty beef. Can't say I recommend it.

Possibly certain species, but there's a huge whale restaurant in Shibuya between the 109 and the Yamada Denki so I imagine they serve less threatened kinds.

I just hope it's not outrageously expensive though  :V If that's not the case, I'm definitely in too.

Will you be meeting to go together to Reitaisai too? 'Cause it would do me good to not have to find it by myself, since I don't have data to check Google Maps in the way  :3

There are two lines that reach Bigsite. The Rinkai and Yurikamome. Don't worry too much because you literally can follow the crowd and bigsite should be immediately obvious. I will be joining the queue for early entry for cosplayers but the main queue diverts to the parking lots outside the convention hall. There are signs in japanese as well as ushers so I think you wont have too many problems.

If you have an unlocked phone, I would recommend getting a data sim card. For 4000 JPY, you can get something like 1GB of mobile data for a week. It was very helpful is navigating Tokyo

Also, thank you for mentioning the concerts in Chiba. I will definitely attend on April 30th!

Ohhhh I remember last year. Terrible terrible wallet damage. I took more damage shopping at akiba though, cause of K books and melon. I'd recommend you do a rough calculation for the books/circles you want to visit and then think about how much you want to bring. CDs are a pretty good deal at RTS because the price difference between event purchase and at melon/toranoana is quite large.

Oh man, this MOTK Reitaisai party looks pretty big! I hope to get to meet most of you guys as possible!

Me (+1) - Yakiniku, buffet-style or whale
CenturyEgg (+1) - Yakiniku or whale
Yukari's Glove - Whale OK
Urotsuki - Whale OK

Sedrife - Not whale

So... Which stations are nearby the place of the jazz concert? It would be really nice to meet to yo together.

I'm now picking free wi-fi in a store. Apart from that, I only get to connect durint my nighr stays in a manga kissa in Akihabara, so I'd like to arrange the meeting as soon as we can!

Dinner plans post Reitaisai just +1 for me! The additional spaces I asked for is just for the Jazz night haha. And yakiniku or whale is good for me as well!

@sinkboss pick up your Reitaisai catalog at any large-ish comic store before the 7th and check the timings there. There will be a time for general entry so go about an hour or two before that to join the main body queue for normal entry (be extra early if you are rushing for Zun's releases). When they annouce the entry you can just listen to directions/go with the crowd and once you are inside it is free rein. I also highly reccomend you get the map of the circle spaces so you can sort of mark out which circles you want to hit and their locations. Abit of prep saves you alot of hassle and wasted time trying to figure out where is what.

The station closest to the jazz venue is called Shimokitazawa. I normally take the Inokashira Line from Shibuya to get there, but you can also take a different line from Shinjuku.

@CenturyEgg Thanks, I'll head down and prepare for it now. I imagine it's gonna be pretty crazy when it comes to queueing and rushing for the popular releases.

Are the RTS catalogues available yet? I haven't spotted any, but that could be just me not noticing them. I'm pretty good at missing stuff.

You have to go to places that sell Touhou/doujin stuff like Animate, Gamers, Akiba-Hobby, Melonbooks, Toranoana, etc. Some might stop selling in the next day or two with the event so close.

Zun sells out in hour or hour half. This may be even faster considering there are two demos released this reitaisai. Also, I need to mention that the catalog, despite being the size of a small phone book, is your entry ticket into the Reitaisai hall (and when moving between halls as well) so do not discard it at any point or leave i in your hotel room.

Ok, station: Shimokitazawa. And the place's name...? I'm sorry if you already put it, but I'm now connected to the wi-fi of a McDonald's and I don't want to be here looking for it...

Thank you!

Okay, so let's start making plans for dinner after Reitaisai. I need a head count and a consensus on cuisine so I can choose where and when to meet. Here's what I have so far. Post with updates and I'll work them in. Don't worry too much about budget.

Me (+1) - Yakiniku, buffet-style or whale
CenturyEgg (+1) - Yakiniku or whale
Yukari's Glove - Whale
Urotsuki -
jaytii -

Yakiniku or whale for me please!

The jazz venue is 下北沢(Shimokitazawa) Music Island O. I was going to try to organize a meet-up time at the station so no one would get lost. 5:15-5:30 would probably work since it starts at 6.

I'm completely up for it! Which exit of the station? Thanks for all the help, Forza

EDIT: I was referring at which exit could we all meet.

Hello, I've been silently lurking on this thread for days. I can't go to the next Reitaisai but I'm planning to visit the Autumn RTS this year. However I'm not sure if there's any difference that needs to be noted between the two. Can someone enlighten me?

Sorry for missing this. Casting my ballot for whale if it is not too late.

Seems there will be a Touhou dance music festival on Sat 6th starting at 13:00 at 秋葉原MOGRA. Event is called "TOHO DANCE NATION Vol.1." There should be enough time for this and the jazz show. If anyone is interested, I'll gather more details.

That event runs well past the start time for the jazz show though, so if you're doing to do both, I would suggest leaving around 4:30 to give you enough time.

And as for the post-Reitaisai dinner, it might end up being yakiniku since Sedrife really didn't seem all that enthused about whale, heh.

Another important question: do anyone know where exactly is the entrance of Reitaisai? I mean, I'm planning my route on the maps. I might stay in Odaiba overnight only to get first on the queue so I can get to ZUN's stand, so I really need to know this so it won't be all in vain.

Thank you!

And sorry if I'm a bit annoying or something, but if the station has many exits, I think we should decide in which one of them we're all going to meet.

No problem about the exits, I meant to respond earlier but I haven't had much time to do a circle check much less anything else not related to more recent matters.

In any case, let's assemble outside of the South Exit at 5:15. I'll have my phone with me so if anyone if wi-fi enabled they can just PM me and I'll catch it. I'll be the ridiculously tall white guy in glasses and probably a blue shirt.

Please count me in for it as well.

The entrance to the queue/event will be signposted at Big Sight. Look for the kanji 例大祭 and follow the arrows. Show the staff members your catalogue and they'll let you in. The closest stations to Big Sight are Kokusai-Tenjijo (JR Rinkai Line) and Kokusai-Tenjijo-Seimon (Yurikamome), and there's lots of arrows pointing you to Big Sight from there. If in doubt, follow the crowd.

I don't know if Reitaisai does this so someone will have to clarify, but be careful showing up super early for non-comiket events, especially before the first train. Sometimes event organisers punish people who arrive too early, or stay up all night, by roping off their section of the queue, and forcing them to wait while everyone else is let in before them. Most people I know aim for 8am, so I guess if you shoot for 7:30, you'll probably be okay. Probably. (Someone more experienced than me can probably give better advice tbh.)

I'm about to head out to Shimokitazawa station to meet up with people, but I was doing some looking around for places to eat and noticed that probably due to the Golden Week holidays, there are a lot of restaurants have available space if we go early enough. So, how about we all meet up in Shibuya around the Hachiko statue by 6:00 and look for a place to eat? That should give everyone enough time to go back to their lodgings to drop stuff off and still give us a good chance at finding a nice place for food.

If you wanted to exchange contact info, just PM me over here or we can do something like swap Line/Twitter accounts at the concert.

Oh don't mind me about the whale.  It was a bit fatty but everyone should get to try it at least once.

What area did you have in mind for the dinner?
On Tabelog.com, for whale I found Umakuraumaya (旨蔵 うま八) next to Shimbashi Station and Taishuusakabatoritoku (大衆酒場 鳥徳) next to Shinagawa station.

Like I said, meet up at Shibuya and we'll go from there. There are plenty of options in the area and I know it like the back of my hand.

Reitaisai is over but the buzz hasn't died down yet. I'm still in the midst of thanking people over twitter but it was really a blast! It was good meeting quite a few of the people from the forums and having the dinner hangout as well. Special thanks to Forza once again for handling reservations and being our dependable guide for the days on and off Reitaisai.

I really really hope I can make it for Reitaisai next year once again!

That's right, thank you very much for all, Forza  :D

By the way, has anyone tried the demos already? I've just tried to play the demo of Antinomy of Common Flowers, but it just doesn't work, even running it in Japanese with Locale Emulator and Admin Rights. No way to play the game :(
