Title: 1st Annual MotK Fantasy Football League! CCG Weekend: Matty Iced
Post by: Kilgamayan on August 26, 2012, 11:00:10 PM
Welcome to the very first Maidens of the Kaleidoscope fantasy football league! I know that more of you out there are sports fans than care to admit it, so we're giving this a try. I'm hoping to get at least 8 teams before the draft, which will be next Sunday, 9/2, at 3:45 EDT.

This is a Yahoo! league since I generally prefer their fantasy interfaces to ESPN's (mostly for the free agent pool interface). The rosters and scoring system are Yahoo! standard, with an added R/W/T position and an extra 0.5 point per reception. I may add some more positions depending on how many teams we get, but if we get at least 12 I can guarantee this roster layout and scoring system is what we'll use.

Please do not sign up if you are going to quit early on. Don't be a lamer. :(

League ID: 733167
Password: ---------
Custom League URL: http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/league/motk

C'mon, folks, get those signups rollin'!

EDIT: Also if you sign up don't forget to post here and tell us who you are unless your team name makes it obvious.

EDIT 2: Since we have a sufficiently international crowd on this forum, this football is American handegg football.

Do not get Calvin Johnson. He's on the cover of Madden, and everyone but Drew Brees that has been on the cover has been screwed the year they were on it. Usually by injury.

I was actually thinking QB/QB/RB/RB/RB/WR/WR/WR/WR/TE/TE/(R/W/T)/DEF/DEF/K. I agree that kickers should never be relevant outside of loleagues, but I think defenses are actually underrated.

DRAFT IS IN FIVE HOURS BE THERE OR BE A QUADRILATERAL WITH EQUAL ORTHOGONAL SIDES

EDIT: Rosters culled a little bit due to 10 teams. Dropped an RB, a TE, and a defense. Still two QBs and four WRs, though I could be talked out of either of those. Also culled the bench to the standard 6.

I'll think about it, but:
1. This is a 2 QB league and there are only 2 starting QBs available on waivers. Options for TEs are still ok.
2. Tony Gonzalez is old.

These refs are really starting to scare me.  Honestly, I thought it was pretty funny in the preseason, but this is getting hard to watch.  Apparently one of the refs now officiating in the NFL, the last game he reffed was a lingerie football league game.  Hell I should have applied, I used to ref little league soccer.

Edible (BUDDHISM STRONG) gives WR Eric Decker and RB Ben Tate

Kerigis (Miracle Gnawers) gives WR Larry Fitzgerald and RB Jamaal Charles

[21:46] <Edible> It's called buying low, trading reliable starters for players that aren't performing up to their draft stock is pretty common practice
[21:48] <Edible> Charles is a gamble at best for the rest of the season, it's clear he's no longer the focal point of the offense
[21:48] <Edible> Plus he's injured still

^ To add to the above, Fitz is completely useless as long as Kolb is throwing the ball, as proved against the Pats last week.  I also should point out that Decker is averaging 8 targets a game on the Broncos, whereas Kolb targets Fitz an average of 5 times a game (a similar trend to when he was throwing the ball last year), because he tends to give up on deep plays and check down a lot.  While I won't deny Ben Tate is the backup on the Texans, he still has more touches than the average starting RB and is used in the red zone at least as much as Foster.  That's a very even trade for a guy who is now competing with two other RBs on the Chiefs, who spend most of their time passing the ball.

However, even if I think the trade was fair and the numbers add up for it, this is a for-fun league and I'm not going to try to screw anyone.  yuyukos: If you feel that strongly against it, I will leave both Charles and Fitz on the bench this week.  Let me know.
Title: Re: First Annual MotK Fantasy Football League! Week 3: >Patriots
Post by: yuyukos on September 22, 2012, 07:10:21 PM
Start them if you want. It's already done and there's no undo (unless you're the replacement refs :V).
It's my opinion that:
1) Decker is a low end option at WR. Despite his high number of targets for our PPR league and the raves about his connection with Manning in the preseason, it's Demaryius Thomas catching for TDs and more yardage. I will agree that Fitzgerald's value is much lower with Kolb at QB, but he's still caught 1000+ yards 5 years in a row. He has, to me, a much higher upside than Decker.
2) Ben Tate is a fairly good value RB even though he's Foster's backup because they run the ball so much in Houston and he did get 2 TDs last week. But he's still just a backup. Jamaal Charles is the starting RB for the Chiefs, with competition yes. but he's still getting more touches than Hillis or Draughn. I would posit that Hillis only has nearly as many touches because Charles bruised his knee last week.

I voted against it too.  That's what the voting is for though.  If enough people are OK with it than so am I.

^ To add to the above, Fitz is completely useless as long as Kolb is throwing the ball, as proved against the Pats last week.

Not really, that's just 1 game.  He was still a top 5 receiver in standard leagues (barely after looking again) last year with Skelton and Kolb trading off at QB.  It really doesn't matter who's throwing LF the ball, he's almost always in the top 5 at the end of the year.

This is quickly becoming a debate of who has done the research into the issue and who hasn't ;_;

Look here.

Under Kolb, Fitz averages 4.3 receptions a game for 69 yards and 0.2 touchdowns.

Under Skelton, he averages 5.25 receptions for 94 yards and 0.75 touchdowns.

The fact of the matter is Kolb's playing style does not take full advantage of Fitzgerald's extreme talents at receiver.  He is a checkdown machine.  Skelton is more of a gunslinger and is far more willing to air the ball out.

I'm not gonna fault you guys for not liking the trade, but I think it's a lot more reasonable than you're making it out to be.

I'll concede that he is a better option with Skelton but it's way too early to declare him completely useless with Kolb.  Kolb got traded during the lock out and had little off season to gel with the offense and it showed.  That said I probably wouldn't play him if I had him just yet, he's not the autostart he usually is.

E:   Wow the ref threw something on the field during the Cowboy's game in the middle of a play.  Ogletree slipped on what looked like a hat in the endzone.  Probably would have been a touchdown too.

Last play of the game it looked like Green Bay had an interception but they ruled it a TD and catch by Golden Tate.  I'm guessing they were using the "simultaneous catch" rule. Touchinterdownception?

I love the way this league is going so far.  We have 9 people with a 2-1 or 1-2 record so it looks to be a competitive league.  Also with the real officials back it should be an exciting year.  It's been fun so far ladies and gents.

To be fair, he also drew two free PIs prior to that call, one of which was questionable.  So I think it worked out either way.

I would like to think we're active enough to allow 1-day waivers and 1-day trades, but that's just my opinion as someone who pays attention to trades and waivers daily.  It's not a huge deal, though.  If anyone can think of a reason not to, personal or otherwise, I'll gladly stick with what we have.

Oh yeah, I meant to do this earlier.

I AM INTERESTED IN TRADING FOR ANY ONE OF THE FOLLOWING

- Rodgers
- Brady
- Brees
- Stafford
- Newton
- Ryan
- Manning
- Griffin
- Flacco
- Dalton

And maybe Rivers and Roethlisberger if I'm feeling particularly generous/inebriated.

I AM NOT INTERESTED IN TRADING FOR ANY ONE OF THE FOLLOWING

- Another QB that will give me headaches as I try to decide between him and Schaub week in and week out
- 28-year-old rookies

All RBs and WRs can be moved, though I will obviously place different values on different players. I could even be convinced to throw Peyton in if I had to, but as the goal of this exercise is to get away from having only one QB I feel good about every week it would take a lot to move him. (I will also obviously move Schaub.) I have not lost much faith in anyone I drafted outside of Freeman, so if you try to buy low on any such player odds are you'll get turned down. (Read: Don't offer Dalton for MJD if you value not having my foot up your ass.)

NOTE: I do not post this list expecting to be able to actually acquire any individual on it, so do not take it as a sign that I am gunning for anyone in particular.

Ugh, I have Hartline in all 3 of my leagues and only started him in 1.  You'd think I would have started him in a 4 WR league, but no.  He won't have a game better than that for the rest of the season, but Tannehill has found his favorite target for sure.

first world problems etc etc. :V

Hartline, Jones, and Colston in my opinion. Take a risk and ride Hartline while he's hot, Jones because the Indi DEF is nothing to write home about and Greg Jennings is out, and Drew Brees is going to air it out breaking Unitas' record and Colston got hot last week.
I'm indifferent about Garcon, but Marshall can develop a case of the dropsies at a moment's notice, and Thomas is going up against New England which could either mean a shoot out or a defensive struggle.

Bears don't need B-Marsh to win this week (sadly).  I'm not sold on Hartline; if he was going to perform this well every week he would have done so more often in previous years.  Colston's a safe start.  I'd go with James Jones and Demaryius Thomas as well, but only because I don't know how many snaps Garcon will be playing.

I'd go with James Jones (No Jennings) and Colston (No Moore) for sure.  Demaryius Thomas is probably the safer play, but I'd consider Hartline this week with how banged up Cincinnati's corner backs are.  It's really close.  Manning > Tannehill makes the decision Thomas for me though.

I love college football, even though my Razorbacks are having an awful year.  I wish that college fantasy football was a thing.  I did it one year but it was pretty awful, too many players and finding that random good QB or RB in a terrible conference will win you the league.

College fantasy would be fun if you limited it by conferences, otherwise you could win it with D3 players from good squads.

Thank god this is a free league, because I don't think I could live with myself having to start Blaine Gabbert in a money league.

I'm pretty sure every QB in the league who isn't on a bye is now on a roster somewhere.

Better snatch up Weeden and whoever's starting for the chiefs! <_<

So how about this.

Effective immediately, I am willing to consider trades for any player on my roster that I have not already traded.

That means the following players are up for trade:

Matt Ryan
Calvin Johnson
Brandon Lloyd
Marques Colston
Doug Martin
Jimmy Graham

Hixon / Alex Green / Felix Jones (lol) are also available for whatever reason.

I'm willing to consider all reasonable trades that are approximately equal in value.  I currently have no weakness at any position and am covered for all bye weeks more than adequately, so I have no need to trade any of them outside of my own personal entertainment.  If you want one of my studs and think you have the ammo for a trade, shoot a request over - just remember to keep the number of players even.

The caveat to the above - Matt Ryan would need to be replaced with another top-end QB.  (Sorry PX.)  I'm not really willing to trust Cutler further than this week <_<;

That's actually not a bad idea.

Here's my deal: I still want a QB upgrade over Schaub. I want to give Alfred Morris and one or two of Andre/Stevie/Kenny (plus Schaub if desired) for that QB upgrade and possibly a bit of a WR upgrade. This is nothing against Morris, whom I think will have a quality season from here on out, it's simply that he's the odd RB out on my roster. I have four RB2-at-worst RBs and I need to get rid of one. I'm attached to him the least, so there you go.

If you want an RB2 and some more WR depth and you have quality QBs to burn, hit me up.

It's okay. I think the only way I can win is if the Ravens score 40+ points against the Texans. Preferably ending in a draw. And no rushing TDs, only passing TDs to Ray Rice.

TSO, why are you offering your top WR for Lloyd (A downgrade if I ever saw one, and the Pats are like the Pack and spread it around, so it's a crapshoot every week) and 2 meh RBs, one of whom is only temporarily replacing the guy ahead of him? I can see you're a little thin at RB, but I think you could get better from Edible if you're offering AJ Green.

NAILBITERS OF THE WEEK

Will Larry Fitzgerald outscore Vernon Davis by 10 or more points?

Will Michael Crabtree and Frank Gore post career games to upset Hail Renko's massive 60-point lead?

Can the entirety of the San Francisco not-offense post 17 or more points?

Will the dregs of Arizona revive to allow the Nightsparrows a 64-point redemption?

ALL THIS AND MORE TOMORROW EVENING ON

MONDAY

NIGHT

FOOTBALL!

My money is on Reid. The Eagles are a mess, Vick is a mess, they spent all that money in free agency, and the owner already said that average would not be good enough this year.

If I own the Eagles I'd be more inclined to 86 the GM, unless Reid is also making the acquisition decisions. The team has a lot less chemistry than it used to because they tried to take the Yankees approach to team building.

Tennessee didn't, really.  The Dolphins are just morons and gave Reggie four carries.

KC's defense didn't really show up, but the Steelers lost Ben so they could stuff the box.

I see how this game works.  So I finally get a TE and he gets a concussion.  Then Fred Jackson finally has a good game and he gets a concussion.  I've been there myself and it sucks but dammit I was excited about Myers.

E: So is it Tebow time yet?  Someone on the Jets team certainly doesn't think so.  I'm accustomed to hearing Tebow hate, growing up in SEC country and everything, but this is pretty low.

RG3 not close.  With Foles under center RG3 will likely get a few extra drives as opposed to if Vick was in there.

The BCS has been a problem for far too long. Hopefully this new 4 team playoff will help a little but it's still going to be based on a formula we don't know. I'd be much happier with the system if the formulas were published that way teams could at least understand why they are getting screwed.  As an SEC fan the BCS has been and will continue to be good to us but I still dislike it.

You would fit in great down here Vic, we say that all the time.  I'm really sick of how good they are almost every year.  I still can't believe that they only had to spend 1 damn week outside of the top 2 worrying about getting into the National Championship.

It helps SEC fans and no other fans matter.
It's incredible how many SEC fans actually HAVE this mentality.  Listening to sports talk radio down here is almost unbearable.

So there is the guy who goes by "SEC guy" ("We prefer a gentile man, fine haberdashery") who calls into different radio stations across the nation and is ridiculous and really funny.  It's almost a Poe's law thing, it's hard to tell if he is real or not but I think he's a comedian based out of Austin.  It's worth listening to this call and the call to Oregon.  "Tim Tebow came from us, he's the child of God."

That's been illegal the entire season. It came up last week when someone tried to challenge a turnover, and it came up in the preseason...when Jim Schwartz tried to challenge a score.

The rule is questionable, but Schwartz has negative reason to not be aware of it. This one's on him for being an idiot.

My personal preference is for leagues where no more than half of the teams make the playoffs. That aside, my home GFaqs board's league has always run a four-team playoff, even when we had 12 teams, so I'm also just plain used to it.

I changed it for Kerigis' matchup against me because he had literally five dudes that were inactive for various reasons and winning a matchup like that is super lamesauce. I haven't touched it since, though I did ask Edible if he wanted me to revert it for the next week (and Edible declined).

Brady could still channel the spirit of Aaron Rodgers and throw for 6 TDs against Houston.
And yes, >ignore team and make the playoffs is bullshit. He didn't do anything besides that one trade. Competitive balance lol  :derp:? Unfortunately, I don't think Yahoo has a system in place which allows for the transfer of ownership of a team to another account.

I didn't care at the time, though in hindsight we should have played against Kerigis the way other teams have been playing against him (IE with a jank roster).

I'm pretty confident Brady and Daniels combine for 30 more than Stevan Ridley tonight, but we'll see.

I guess I could make it a moot point by benching my remaining three guys and giving PX the win. I don't like throwing games like that, though.

EDIT: Or I could reset Kerigis's roster and give yuyukos the win if people prefer that.

Since my team is more or less directly impacted by this decision, I will need to abstain from casting a vote on the matter.

I will say that if Kerigis' team makes the playoffs, someone should "claim" the team and update it as we did for the last three weeks.

Nah don't throw your game I don't like that either. If anything you deserve the playoffs a little more, playing against Kerigis's full roster. I know it won't keep you out but I don't want to mess with anything like that.  Reseting Kerigis's roster is perfectly fine with me. I'd hate to have someone not playing in the playoffs.

I was going through a box of old cups (why did I keep a box of cups?) and found a cup someone gave me from a Cowboys game with Quincy Carter on it.  Quincy was a g.  I'd put a picture but its one of those weird hologram cups that won't photo well.

I'm in the playoffs regardless. Resetting Kerigis's roster would mean Edible gets the last playoff spot on tiebreakers (assuming Brady/Daniels don't completely choke).

EDIT: While I'm thinking about it, my vote is that I'm okay with this.

EDIT 2: For reference, the official changes would be:

- Ben Roethlisberger sub in for Sam Bradford
- Antonio Brown sub in for Randall Cobb
- LeSean McCoy sub in for Stevan Ridley
- Ben Tate sub in for Kendall Wright
- Fred Davis sub in for Jermaine Gresham

Oh I know you're in, I just don't like altering results at all if possible. This situation with Kerigis is different and those changes all looks good to me. How long do you have to make this decision? I don't want to make it seem like others votes don't matter but we do have half of the teams in the playoffs ok with this. Eliminate him from contention entirely, which would slide Edible into 4th place.  If the team as he had left it had made the play-offs, I would have laughed at the absurdity of it but allowed it.  Since some changes have been made, even from his own roster, it's not the same team as he left it.  Or let's just go the NCAA route and declare him ineligible for post-season play.

I beat TSO this week, which knocks her to 7-7.  Kilga won, dropping the Nightsparrows to 7-7.  Edible won, putting him at 7-7 and the point advantage tie-breaker.  Unfadable won to move to 8-6.

This I can't do. I asked around at the time of my changing his roster in his match against me and received no objection to it. I'm not going to go back on that now.

The note's been there since November 22nd - you had a long time before this weekend to speak up about it if this was going to be your opinion.

Edit: Give me a couple of hours, I have another idea.

Okay so here's the deal.

I ran the numbers the morning, and even after resetting Kerigis' roster for this week, he would still win (he'd lose less than 15 points). I also know that resetting his roster for his game against me three weeks ago would not make him lose that matchup any less.

I'm not flat-out invalidating his team because it was publicized three weeks ago that I would be doing this (Vic even responded to the post so I guess he just forgot or something?)  and all three people that went up against his team have now, at one point or another, expressed a distinct lack of disapproval for the changes.

However, I did also say that I would reset his roster after my match with him, and that did not happen. I can't run the numbers now but I'm 99% sure Edible wins Week 13 if Kerigis's roster is reset. This would change the 4th place team from Kerigis to Edible.

The question is then this: Do we want to reset Kerigis's roster for that one matchup?

I will take votes in-thread or in private until tomorrow at 12:30 US Eastern and make a decision then.

Also, a bonus question for Vic: Should Kerigis remain in the playoffs, do you want his roster reset?

In fairness, I would like to offer one correction to Kilga's post.  He did ask if I wanted the roster reset for my match against Kerigis last week, and I declined.  That loss was entirely on me - I had players on my bench that would've enabled me to win.

I didn't forget; I was the first one to bring it up again due to the play-off implications.  I didn't say anything at the initial time because a) I had already lost to his original line-up, which was missing three players during the match, something I've brought up twice and b) I wasn't bothering to think about the possible play-off implications it could have.  I didn't think about those at all until the final week (when there were 4 teams at 7-6 and it became much easier to predict the final 4).

I like college football so I have to live with the realty of a general post-season ban being dealt at some point by the NCAA, invalidating all work gone into a season.  Ohio State this year went 12-0 and didn't even go to the B1G championship game, so the post-season ban seemed the most logical for an abandoned team.

Quote from: Kilgamayan
Also, a bonus question for Vic: Should Kerigis remain in the playoffs, do you want his roster reset?
The original roster has 2 out players so I'd say leave it like it is.  It's my match and it'd be unfair for me to request an easier match-up.  I'd prefer no one pick up his team though and just let it ride as-is til the end.

AP is aiming to break a record, and he's the only semblance of reliable offense on the team, AND they're playing for a playoff spot  And at this point, Houstan doesn't need to play anymore. Why bench him?

I'm so glad the active players made the finals. Congrats Kilga and Vic! Hopefully I can beat Kerigis for the podium finish and have the top 3 be active players. I was shooting for not last in week 7 so I'm very happy with how my team went. Cam Newton exploded the second half of the season and I couldn't have done it without him. I think the picking 2 QBs first in this league worked pretty well.

Honestly 9/10 participation is pretty damn good for the first MotK league.

Man you have a lot of solid RBs.  AP for sure, he is a monster and is having a great season, especially considering coming off of that ACL injury.  Yes Houston's defense is good but AP will get his touches and his yards regardless of who's defense it is.

If you really don't want to play him Sproles is a safe bet but the Saints have a lot of RBs so it is a risk, but hes the best of their RBs for fantasy.

Houston's defense was good but it's been ravaged by injuries. Peterson is the safest play in all of  fantasy sports outside of possibly Kevin Durant; don't bench him for any reason.

I may play Stevie anyway just to be sporting, since that kind of waiver wire talent swing for a championship match is kinda lame.

I just wanted to make sure Vic didn't get him. <_<

EDIT: Incidentally, this exact sort of situation is the reason I stopped using waiver claims however many weeks ago.

Congrats Kilga. It's been fun ladies and gents, can't wait till next year. Save me a spot for next years league, but more than likely I'll be around when we make it.  I liked the format we used with the 4 WRs too so we should stick with that.

Would it be possible to keep this topic around till the end of the season to talk football stuffs?

Yeah, I was planning on keeping this up through the Superb Owl for generic football discussion. Format will depend on how many we have next year, though - if we get 12 I suspect a QB and a WR will be culled.

Prob Owl rosters announced. Most of the snub rage seems directed at Victor Cruz and Julio Jones getting in ahead of Dez Bryant, Vincent Jackson and Roddy White. Lots of arguing over Richard Sherman as well.

One interesting thing that came to light is the massive AFC QB dropoff after Manning and Brady. But hey, at least Renko got two Prob Owl QBs out of it. 8)

Schaub did have a better-than-expected year, but Luck really didn't have a very good year at all (contrary to public opinion).  21:18 TD:INT ratio isn't anything to write home about, and his completion percentage and passer rating are both far below average.

Pro Bowl voters going by records and not name-recognition??? What has this world come to?  (Also Schaub played at UVA so fuck him)

Given that they still voted in people like Reed and Saturday with lackluster seasons, I'm shocked they didn't go with the rookie-led-his-team-to-the-playoffs for the AFC to match the NFC.

We grabbed NIU's head coach and look what's happened to them in this game. That Clemson-LSU game was probably one of the best, especially when LSU lost. That part owned.

The Tiger Bowl was really exciting. I'll root for any SEC team any day except LSU and Alabama. I love Les Miles and I hope LSU never gets rid of him, he's also a riot in press conferences. It is almost like, at the end of games, he knows the right decision and then makes the other one instead. Why in the world would you throw the ball on that last drive 3 times while they have 3 time outs left?

Did anyone see that "first down" in the South Carolina game? If you didn't there was about an inch to the first down marker on a measurement and the refs called it a first down, even after reviewing it.

Now that the playoff picture is set, what are your picks for the Super Bowl? There is a serious lack of QB experience in these playoffs (4 rookies if I count correctly) and I think that gives New England, Denver and Green Bay a big edge. Despite that I like the 49ers in the NFC. I think it's going to be Patriots vs 49ers with the Patriots winning. For some reason I don't think the Falcons can get it done, I can't think of one specific reason just a feeling I have.

I like Miles better than Saban, but I usually pull against SEC teams, tired of them always winning. Especially Saban.

It was worth it to see Clowney take off his head on the next play, then pick up the ball like "this is also mine." and now we all get free bloomin onions today!

To me it looked like Florida was suffering from the "were too good to be here" syndrome that seems to plague teams in match ups like this. This game was so much fun to watch. I'd usually be rooting for Florida but my neighbor is Charlie Strong's cousin and I watched it with him. Him and his family were so excited that I couldn't help but get caught up in it. I'm glad I was there to share it with them it really was something.
