ooooooh looks great. i wonder what the new weather will do? Maybe the opposite of Spring Haze, "No bullets" I always thought that should have been a weather along with preventing melee haha. the new stage looks cool too. I wonder where it is? Looks like a lake...maybe the lake near the SDM? That spot does come up a lot in Touhou haha. Guess time shall tell.
I too hope for some new chars....anyone would do if it adds to the game hehe.

Yep. If you get past hard or lunatic without dying, Rin Satsuki shows up at the start of the last fight, kills Tenshi, and then you have to fight her.

As much as I'd love to see Meiling return, I'd only be able to accept her if she wasn't a joke character this time. I mean, seriously, she's the only martial artist in the entire cast... Surely she should actually be a decent character in a fighting game, right?

this could mean:
- subtle character differences compared to SWR (or IaMP, who knows), with the possibility to choose the SWR versions (that have SWR's spellcard/gameplay mechanics, and can't use the new features of the game, whatever they are)
- commands such as 623 must be input precisely, instead of 626
- comboing from air into ground becomes more restrict
- a selectable hidden character that overpowers others (possibly Yorihime/Toyohime), but has a quite strict selection trick so that, if players want to use her (or Mannosuke, another possibility) in tournaments (I feel weird for comparing SWR with ST :p), and somehow fail to select her, they're automatically banned
- there will be an HD Remix version :p
As much as I'd love to see Meiling return, I'd only be able to accept her if she wasn't a joke character this time. I mean, seriously, she's the only martial artist in the entire cast... Surely she should actually be a decent character in a fighting game, right?
Youmu is another martial artist, Remilia prefers melee over danmaku, and Suika has destroyed mountains before (just like Akuma did in SF3 2nd Impact)

Well, I don't think it can be a choice in multiplayer, otherwise you'll split the player base and cause elitism (i.e. items in Super Smash Brothers/Melee/Brawl). The most I would go for is that each player can choose one weather condition to not have, which would at least be a bit strategical, but preferably, some of the more influential weather conditions will be changed (or that it won't be a choice and weather is always disabled/enabled).
Single player can have that choice though.

*shudder* Elitism. I'm definitely not too fond of that word. when Elitism is involved there are competitive players and casual players. I'm a casual in Brawl. I don't mind any setting or any mode whatsoever. but some of my friends always do 3 lives, no items Final D all day ._. it gets kinda boring.... I like mixing it up and adding variety. Otherwise it may and i put emphasis on the 'may' become a totally skill base, if you can't beat a few of yoru certain friends then you'll probably always stay below em. I guess as long as its fun i guess you won't even think too much about it though. But i like variety, keeps everyone on edge, high skill or not hehe.
Speaking of Bros. i gotta play it again ._. haven't played in a few months haha.
I wonder if there are any other extra features in this SWR or possibly new Touhou fighter. I saw it say ver.1.06 at the bottom so i think its for SWR for sure since that's the current version.

I'd rather a new game altogether. There was a considerable drop in gameplay quality from IaMP, which was really good, to SWR, that's pretty much rubbish.

IIRC Hisoutenfuroku is some kind of SWR spellcard-based card game Tasogare was selling at COMIC1*3.
Nothing important, or else we would have heard about it. The only other thing the website says is that they got into Comiket 67. If something was being released, they'd put it there.

SWR update would be cool though. I don't mind the weather too much, but it'd be nice to have an option to turn it off altogether.

It's one of those 21st century game disease trends. Nothing is easy enough and publishers can't get over an irrational fear that if the player has to press more than 2 buttons to win the game he'll freak out and toss the controller away in panic.

It would be cool if we had "expansions" on IaMP, as SWR should have been but failed miserably by changing fucking everything instead of just tweaking the mechanics and adding some new characters. I think that by now everyone should know THAT is the way to go about making fighting game series...

But historically, fighting games sequels ARE pretty much expansions of the previous game and whenever there's too much experimentation there is dividing of the public and you risk ending up with something that, for being different from the last one, keeps your target public away. Fighter-players are kinda like RTS-players in this sense. You can't mess around too much with it, particularly if you're in a series. Think about it. Soul Calibur had a very slow evolution, SF had a faster one and you had the main public kinda lost for quite a while until SF4 kinda made peace with them. the "vs. Capcom" series also had a slow evolution and was successful throughout Xmen vs SF,Marvel vs SF, MvsC and MvsC 2.
SWR made the mistake of "throwing IaMP away". So what you get is a second game that has nothing to do with the original and, what do you get: Divided public. As a publisher/developer, you just wounded your relation with your public, because there is no trust anymore. Some people here love SWR, other like me hate it intently, because it is presented as a sequel to IaMP, but is nothing of the sort.

regarding changes in fighting games, compare SF2 CE with ST or 3s, or Fatal Fury 2 with Garou MotW, or MvsC 1 with MvsC 2. These are examples of successful games (tournament-wise, in varying degrees). SWR is nice to people who don't play for competition, and isn't for those who do play for competition (so, the relation between developers and public doesn't affect the former negatively). Quoting Bellreisa (iirc), "the problem isn't that the gameplay has changed, it's that it hasn't changed for the better". What (imho) made SWR different from the examples I've mentioned above, is that it's not fit to be played for competition (and the weather is regarded as being the least of the problems), and IaMP could be enjoyed by both player profiles.

Indeed. Touhou itself has had a slow evolution ever since Touhou 2 started shit over from the beggining. New game elements are introduced slowly and gradually. If you compare that to 12 now it's like ZOMG COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!!! But things happen gradually. PoC in 6, hitbox in 7, new bomb/power system in 10, Tweaking of that system in 11, Now a new idea mixing that with the old and something completely different for 12.... but things kinda happen one at once.
(8 had a lot of game specific stuff that never really made it through. Time orbs trying to make the raking system better, familiars and the phantom gauge)
I don't think it's only companies that are tournament heavy that get benefits from customer trust. Take "The Last Guardian" that's coming out. I'm FUCKING BUYING THAT! And I have no idea what's that about. But my trust in those people is so much that I am SURE it will be awesome! But yeah, Tasofro really fucked up. IaMP had a few balance issues, needed a tweaking here and there and some more characters. If they did that it would be awesome but they decided to go a whole different way...

Actually, the problem with IaMP is that it turned away a lot of beginner players because of the huge learning-curve, from simple button-masher to skillful combo-ers. SWR is the complete opposite in that sense, so in the end it seemed like they tried to reach out to the other half of the public who were turned off by IaMP. It still takes skill to combo in SWR, but not as much as IaMP.
Now only if they could make a game that could truly reach out and please both ends of the bargain.

What Tasofro needs to do is forget about the IaMP/SWR series and just make a decent fighting game. Hell, they need to take points from their own books and take advantage of what they did with Eternal Fighter Zero, because that, for the most part, was actually playable, not slow as molasses, and felt a lot more crisp and solid.
I highly doubt they're releasing an expansion pack for SWR, but if they are, what could they possibly add? New characters? We have enough characters as it is. We don't more to accent the glaring balance issues the game already has. We don't need new stages. Anything the game really needs can be addressed in a patch.
We're probably getting an expansion for Patchucon.

tho if this is on a timeline that is not a f*ed up as the zelda timeline (yes im related touhou to zelda again) then touhou can be all in a time paradox were Cirno was hidden in the 1st game... but from the wiki it seem that it is on a timeline that is lunier.

Oh, sure, some things looked like major changes, but fundamentally, we're still talking about "arrow keys to move, Z to shoot, X to bomb, shift to dodge, small hitbox, huge bulletspam, don't die."

The new weather is 凪 (calm), so maybe that's the "no weather" effect or something, though that would make it totally redundant to basic "temperament" state.
Anyone want to make an educated guess on who the new character is, if there is one?
Who would be associated with calm, and that new background which looks like the Misty Lake?
Also, no one ever knew why SWR was turned from number 9.8 in the series to 10.5, maybe this patch is why.

I dun understand the flack said about IamP, i like it but compared to SWR it's horrible for us players who is not willing to mash buttons for combos..
and it is slow in responding.. I don't quite like it as much as SWR.

The only big difficulty I had in learning my way around IaMP was that when I first started I didn't know there was grazing, so even the simplest attacks looked impossible. But then I quickly realised there was something interesting involving dashing and bullets and from then on there wasn't much problem. I fail to see where IaMP's learning curve is so steep. People keep talking about combos, combos... but you don't have to be able to string long combos to a decent player in the majority of fighters (and the ones where you're expected to combo a lot have facilitating measures for that). I think the basic IaMP combos, traps and pokes aren't harder to learn than any other fighter and actually always found SWR to be way more confusing with all that rubbish

You both sound exactly the same :D and i too agree there as well. Before i found Touhou i was playing Melty Blood: Act Cadenza. its a button-mashy fighting game for and it was very easy to play. ( I don't button ash btw just pointing that out for the game. I'm pretty good with it now. I love it. Ciel ftw ) and when i had my FIRST touhou game experience 4 years ago....I played IaMP. Total noob at the series and never heard of it but it was recommended to me by my good friend who is a touhou fan. I was bored with playin MB a bit. just a bit bored enough to try IaMP.
I was horrible at it.
Yes it does have a hard to understand learning curve and then it was in japanese and during the time i wasn't too comfortable as it was to play a game i can't read I got frustrated and I deleted it soon after. However boredom kicked back in and i redownloaded it. I stuck with it and after a while i was able to play it till i got to Remilia stage 5 (was practicin the game as reimu to understand everything i could about the game. It was REALLY hard.
Now (4 years later) its not bad at all. However, I enjoy the easiness and fluidity of SWR. having an autocombo per char is okay. but fightin wise it felt like a typical fightin game you'd get on the console, other than the danmaku bullets and long range combat the game has it started to feel 'normal'. For the most part I'm pretty laid-back and flexible so i don't mind IaMP's structure and mechanics. I understand why people like IaMP more and vice versa, but for me it was one hard mother to break. I'm glad i kept with it though since it was my FIRST Touhou game. If i didn't i wouldn't have gotten interested enough to try all the other games and become the fan/player of the series as i am now. IaMP is definitely in my "different" category, the only other game in there is "Arcana Heart" for PS2 Both of these games i HAVE to have a different mind to play it effectively (at the moment i suck horridly at Arcana Heart o_-) SWR feels like a "typical" fighting game but has danmaku and i can play that like i have been playing games like Guilty Gear or Melty Blood.
The only thing i really wish could be changed is the Deck system mostly Skill cards leveling, Matches dont' last too long to get the full effect of a level 3-4 skill (unless your in story mode) I wish that each level up of a skill card added a significant effect that would make it worthwhile putting 3-4 cards in or so. Increasing damage sure but better properties or something. i still put a few "4 of a kinds" skills in my decks but only a few...

Calm huh?....I feel like...since Sanae i splayable in 12 if they do make a new char it'll be her. But i dont' mind anyone if they make a new char.
My friends and i want to see a new Phantasmagoria though. we LOVE playing that on my laptop together. so much fun hehe :D

well i was trying to think of what characters would make sense to have in SWR. ya know? like yuka for example. With the messed up weather her Garden of the Sun could be ruined easily with too much rain or a draught etc. or Cirno because her lake is too cold via blizzard or hot for other reasons. Nitori would make sense too since she's up on the mountain with Aya she has good reasons for wanting to solve it. Sanae too if she's trying to get "in the business" like Reimu, Marisa and Sakuya. Well any addition to the game is totally fine with me but if we do get some more. I'd guess some of these or others. hehe

thinking about the new scenery, this may mean that Nitori or Cirno or Kanako (or someone else that's related with lakes.. hopefully it's not Komachi's stage :p)

there are people who like swr and people who like iamp, there is no need for you to actually wage full scale war on SWR just becoz u prefer it over iamp.

Yeah, but I want an official one so not everyone has to download the patch that almost no one uses really =/.
And the chances of Medicine being in SWR is just as unlikely as Koishi making it. Which is 99% unlikely.
Actually, when I think about it, Medicine has more of a chance of making the cut than Koishi.

Ur being seriously biased over swr just because u dun like it.
there are people who like swr and people who like iamp, there is no need for you to actually wage full scale war on SWR just becoz u prefer it over iamp.
It's not FULL scaled. More characters is a good thing, Reisen looked quite awesome, particularly. But still, yeah, that game needs to go die in a fire because they've added more characters but corrupted the gameplay core, which is the most important thing of any game. And of course I'm biased. I'd be balanced if the games were of similar quality, but since one is quite good and the other is a pile of shit, I'm sticking with the good one, obviously.

Yeah it kind of looks more like Metal Gear Rhapsody.
Also if Cirno gets put in they'll probably give here a bunch of slowing and freezing spells that are more annyoing than sub zero.

Cirno would be really cool, but that would be shit. I myself would be more interested in zoning with Frost Columns and poking with Perfect Freeze

The props for Medicine is that there is already a spellcard that spews poisoned, wouldn't be harder to kick it up a notch.

山を見上げるようにゆらゆらと動いていたのだ。

幻想郷に来てから早二年経とうとしていた。
初めは異形なる者に対して畏怖から、まともに儀式も行えなかったが、
今ではすっかり馴染み、違和感なく通常の仕事を行う事が出来た。
もう、多少の事では驚かないと思っていた。
勿論、そう思ってしまったら必ず驚かされるのが幻想郷である。
そこが外の世界にはない幻想郷の長所であった。
彼女は、守矢神社から見える巨大な人影を見ていた。
人影は神社よりも遥かにでかい、彼女にとっての古典的な表現では
十階建ての高層ビル位はあるだろうか。
その人影は、彼女には昔アニメで見た巨大人型ロボットに見えた。
しかし、ロボットと言うには動きが滑らかすぎた。
まるで生きているかの様に動く人影は、時には山に望み、時には里を睨み
そして突然霧に包まれたあと、不気味なほど静かに消えた。
その事を神奈子に報告すると、それは「ブロッケンの妖怪」だと教えてくれた。
ブロッケンの妖怪とは、自分の影が霧に映り巨人に見える気象現象である。
実際何らかの気象現象かなんかであろう、
そう考えてしまう自分の思考回路が面白くなかった。
だから彼女は、あの影は里を襲う巨大ロボだと思う事にした。
そう考えると調査が楽しいからである。
そう、アレは決して霧に映った影などではない。
霧が出てきたのは人影が出た後だったし、
何より、ここは何が起こってもおかしくない場所、幻想郷なのだから。

小さな妖精はいつものように興奮していた。
今日は山よりも大きいアレを見たからである。
勿論、実際には山よりも遥かに小さいのだが、
視覚から感じる印象は大差はない。
すぐに霧に包まれ見えなくなってしまったが、彼女は確信していた。
アレは、大妖怪「だいだらぼっち」に違いない。
普段はどこに住んでいるのか判らないが、
珍しい妖怪を見たと興奮したのもつかの間
妖怪の山から巫女が下りてきた。
「この辺で巨大ロ??、大きな動く物を見たりしていない？」
巫女はそういうと、霧の中探し始めたのである。
小さな妖精は何故か焦燥感に駆られ、
自分が先に見たんだから自分の物だと思う様になった。
「だいだらぼっちなんて見てないよ」
そう答え、巫女を牽制した。
彼女はただの好奇心から自分で大妖怪を探そうと思ったのである。

いつも騒がしい紅魔館。その日も例外なく騒がしかった。
門番である彼女は、紅魔館の主であるレミリア・スカーレットに
何やら報告していたが、 主は軽く聞き流していた。
彼女は漠然とした不安を感じていた。
朝方、山の麓に巨大な人影を見たのである。
そして、生ぬるい霧をまき散らし、消えてしまった。
アレは一体何だったのか。
大鵬の様な大きな影、吐き出された禍々しい霧、彼女は確信していた。
アレは凶事の顕形「太歳星君（たいさいせいくん）」の影である。
ついに幻想郷の全妖怪が
手を取り合って戦わないといけない凶神が現れたのだと、
紅魔館の主に報告していたのだ。
勿論それは聞き入れられなかった。
彼女は思っていた。
退屈な毎日を少し楽しくする為に、わざと誇張しましたけどね、と。

Yep. If you get past hard or lunatic without dying, Rin Satsuki shows up at the start of the last fight, kills Tenshi, and then you have to fight her.

I actually think that took way too long. Sanae is ZUN's new raep-slave(since apparently Aya already got used up) so no surprises there and Meiling has been missing for a while after her half appearance at IaMP.
Too bad it's not a new game though. IaMP deserves a sequel with more chars.

^ these moves and Krizalid's tornado kicks. Block these things, and the attacker will gain almost a full super meter. (Krizalid's moving version eats projectiles and the standing version reflects projectiles. Both versions are bigger than Meiling's)
That would be a nice start :D
