Scarlet Weather Rhapsody: Sound And Fury
« on: August 05, 2011, 03:11:29 AM »
So, after updating my Nvidia driver and finally, finally getting SWR running on my machine (fun little fighting game, too, really like the mechanics), I found everything going smoothly except one thing:

The opening theme plays just fine, but when I enter a fight, the sound cuts off altogether - no music, no effects.

Any ideas?

Run Wine in a terminal, does it show anything when the sound drops out?

Also btw, I have a deep hatred for Pulseaudio now, after trying to get it working and then trying to exorcise it from UK's desktop.  But I have a feeling it always makes things complicated and glitchy.

This is the output I get in Terminal from starting the game, going into the first fight, and then forcing a quit. I'll add that nothing came up on Terminal when I entered the fight stage and sound dropped out:

You really don't want to use the stable version.  Install the 1.3 series instead (wine1.3).  Upgrade to that and see how it works.

Same problem, using 1.3.15.

Incidentally, what would you recommend in place of PulseAudio?

Under Linux I skip PulseAudio entirely and just use ALSA when given the option. OSS is a bit antiquated, and JACK takes forever to configure and is really more for music producers.

Yeah, should add that I tried this in both PulseAudio and ALSA, with the same results.

It's getting more and more difficult to extract Pulseaudio out of Ubuntu and Ubuntu-based distros, which is part of the problem.

When you're playing the game, can you play sounds from elsewhere just fine?

Yes, other apps that use sound play perfectly fine, even while SWR is running.
