Title: Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum
Post by: Wordspoken on May 02, 2009, 11:50:25 AM
Because

1) It was just released in Europe

2) I do too.

3) 200+ hours of playtime

Well, Pokemon hasn't much changed gamewise since it's original version, but the latest installation is the most advanced version still. That is to say compared to red/blue/yellow, say, it has userfriendly options. I have always liked how RPG-wise you can grab your team anyhow you like it. Then again, there are simply too many pokemons: you won't like them all, you won't (probably) use them all. Also leveling could be a bit faster thing to do. And yet to sum up what I think about this game: 200+ hours of gameplay.

3) 200+ hours of playtime
Unless you want to train up all your pokemon to lv99, breeding to get the best moves list and train to lv 99, win all contest ribbor for all your pokemon, beat the extra tower, catch all pokemon that is catchable, then yes, 200 hours.

For me who just doing the regular things, 40-60 will do.

The highest level is 100, not 99.

Not unless you have Red/Blue/Yellow version and use the Cinnabar Island item-glitch =/.

Of course, I don't know if such glitch exists in the new installments. I have yet to actually play the games. I think I should as a time-killer.

That being said which version would any of you recommend?

Platinum or Diamond. Pearl's legendary is ugly.

Platinum is looking really kickass. I wouldn't suggest getting it if your already have another 4th gen game unless you're big on Pokemon, but it's worth the get if you don't have any.

When I said, "I never played the games" I meant only DS versions. I played the others. They were all fun until I beat the entire thing. Then I lost the will to continue =/.

That said, I may as well get Platinum. It looks pretty good.

Yea, platinum is the only one that I feel to actually have a decent *short* story compare to other that pretty much has non.

Lol, I chose Pearl because I preferred it's legendary. I think you can choose either in Platinum (or both?).

When I played pokemon, I chose Diamond because Pearls legendary looks like a penis.

Exactly.

That said, I also prefered a lot of Diamond's version specifics (Scyther and Larvitar). I may get Platinum because A: There are some nice added stuff I want to check out, and B: I'm crazy like that.

Also, Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness is hard. A lot harder than the first set of Pokemon Mystery Dungeons. Mostly because of the battle with the Luxray and 8 Luxio ganging up on you. SOO GODDAMNED CHEAP.

Battle Frontier brings a new challenge for all.

Not only that, MOVE TUTORS!  Bullet Punch Scizor, anyone?  (you can't get that in D/P)

My gamers pride won't allow me this. Besides I play this game for fun, it's not really important achieve everything as optimally as possible.

Lol, I chose Pearl because I preferred it's legendary. I think you can choose either in Platinum (or both?).

I also picked Pearl, mainly for technical reasons -- Palkia's type is Water/Dragon, and his exclusive move DOESN'T suck ass. Seriously, Slash VS Hyper Beam, what does everyone pick? SLASH, unless you're a Generation I Tauros-user.

And yes, just like Emerald with Groudon and Kyogre, Platinum lets you get both Legendaries post-game. Also, unlike Emerald, the previously post-game legendary is catchable in-story, not through sequence-breaking (NOTE: in Emerald, you CAN catch Rayquaza pre-Elite Four, thanks to them forgetting to lock the gate again after your in-story trip up the tower).

Not only that, MOVE TUTORS!  Bullet Punch Scizor, anyone?  (you can't get that in D/P)

Sod Bullet Punch Scizor! Bullet Punch TECHNICIAN Scizor, f*** yeah! Finally the guy gets something worth Technician-ing (Technician Scyther + Aerial Ace = MURDER)!

that's what hax are for.

The only hax I condone are Berry hax and Event Item Get hax (i.e., hacking to get an Azure Flute so that you can do the work to catch Arceus YOURSELF, as opposed to hacking to get a LvX Arceus without any effort at all). Beyond that, Hax are bad (though I LOL at Wondertombs, if only because Fire Fang still hits them -- the move itself is glitched to always go through Wonder Guard).

I myself have an Action Replay, but I only get my shinies through Pokedar. Then I can actually brag about the huge amount of shinies I have.

Maaaan, to think I got all my event Pokemon through WiFi legitimately...

I tried to chain for shinies.  Soon after, I gave up.  I fail :(

However, on the other hand, I'm indeed a competitive battler...but I haven't trained my Pokemon for a while due to other matters.  Chances are, I won't even be ready for the upcoming regional tournaments.  Sucks for me, but that's life, I guess.

My goals in Platinum:
- Obtain an Outrage Salamence
- Soft reset for good IV's for Skymin (I can get so many, since I own an R4...I don't think this counts as cheating...since there isn't any AR or whatever involved...but if anyone needs a Shaymin, let me know)
- Obtain a Heat Wave Zapdos w/ good nature/IV's
- Train a ScarfTran (in case you don't know what it means, Choice Scarf + Heatran)
- Catch a Jolly Azelf, then teaching it Thunderpunch, Ice Punch, Zen Headbutt, and Explosion

That's all I can think of at this time.  To be honest, I've yet to beat the Elite 4 in Platinum, so I can't really say much...

Download. (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?dxyni42hqxz) This is me in Pokemon form. Although I haven't battled with him yet, so I'm not quite sure how he'll 'fare'.

Well, I did once, but that didn't turn out so well. I loaded it on a Platinum ROM with my brother's save file, and completely forgot he doesn't have all the badges yet.

OH HEY LOOK A LV10 SHELLOS IMMA GO KILL IT

Drake disobeyed orders! (Oh shit whoops)
Drake used Belly Drum!
Shellos used Mud-Slap!
Drake took a nap!
Shellos used Mud-Slap!
Drake is fast asleep.
Shellos used Water Pulse!
Drake woke up!
Drake pretended not to notice!
Shellos used Water Pulse!
Drake is confused!
Drake is loafing around!
Shellos used Tackle!
Drake is confused!
Drake hurt himself in his confusion!
Drake has fainted!
