Russian Minecraft server "Apocalyptic"
« on: May 15, 2013, 07:33:16 PM »
Well, don't know neither if you'll ever have a courage to play on a Russian server, nor if you'll be even able to do it. Though, idea still seems good, so I'll post about it.

"Greencubes" is a Russian Minecraft project, uniting several SMP servers. The oldest one, "Main" or "Beta", is powered by an own server application, written specially for hosting a large heavily populated SMP world. Its version is still Beta, hence one of its names.
Second one is an RPG server. It's running on original MC server with some RP mods.
Third, the newest one, is an "Apocalyptic" server. It was opened about a month ago, and is still going a beta testing.

The world here is created by a custom generator. Its main part is a large cave, consisting of several layers, and being about 200m of total depth. Surface is covered by a deadly gas, which a player cannot stay in for long time without special equipment. It doesn't have much resources, though, so you probably won't go outside much.
Underground is a bit more friendly. Though, since it is covered from sunlight, it's dark enough here to allow hostile mobs to spawn all day long.
Its somewhat layered structure also may propose a danger - while mining, you can accidentally dig through a layer and fall from a great height, very likely near a bored skeleton or creeper.
Since it's theme is post-apocalypse, it is naturally to have modern technologies instead of classic Minecraft magic. Applied mods are IC2 with Nuclear Control and Advanced Machines, BuildCraft with Thermal Expansion, Forestry, RailCraft and IronChests.

So, to let you get better idea of what's going on, here are some screenshots.

I think, if you want to play here anyways, it is possible to do it.
So, your opinion?

I'm getting Stalker and Metro vibes.

This does sound interesting to play, but as the community Minecraft server admin I'm not so sure I want to implement this, even as a gimmick world. Biggest reason - clients will have to mod their clients manually just to get on, as many of those mods use Forge instead of an auto-manager such as Spoutcraft.

What?

Also, Greencubes has its own client, which saves its data in a separate directory, ".greencubes[-apocalyptic]" instead of ".minecraft", so it's possible to have both MC and GC clients simultaneously.

I thought at first that "it is possible to [play] it" meant a community server with a similar vibe.

As for playing on those servers, I reckon language barrier and geography will be big issues for many of us.

Ah, similar to Spoutcraft then. That helps a good bit.

Probably since it's the second Dota 2 thread we have had.
