I might have been able to take Luna Dial seriously if it weren't for that dumb-ass percussion instrument that plays off-rhythm half the time and sounds like a door being slammed shut.  'Chaotic' is far too elegant a description for it.

If we're talking about the same one, it's chaotic - perhaps a bit much - for the first half, but I love what ZUN does with it in the second.

no pc-98 games for me since I'm not familiar enough with them...Hell, I'm not familiar with my LEAST fave songs even in the windows ones. I mean I have some that I like especially so for their stage, and some I think are "meh", but I never really ranked the "mehs" before.. Anyway I'll try.

stage 1: Gosh, I find stage 1 music is really good most of the time. Probably EoSD if it didn't have that super nostalgic "my first time playing touhou" feeling I get when I hear it (which makes it own).. So yeah, excluding eosd >=P...UFO, but it's still quite good.
ST1B: SA, not much difficulty deciding this one.

Stage 2: Going to have to go with UFO again on this one
ST2B: Probably EoSD...Yes I dislike Cirno's theme gasp.
ST3: SA I guess, not really sure about this one
ST3B: UFO, I *REALLY* like a good deal of this song actually, enough to almost be my fave. I just HATE the part that gets repeated alot however >=(.

This man said it best. The only thing worse than "Lunar Clock ~ Luna Dial" is "Hiroari Shoots a Strange Bird ~ Till When?" when played on the MIDI channel, which is sadly the only way sound works for me on PCB. Therefore, it gets my vote by default. ;_;

What catches my eye is that although I don't think MS has a particularly stellar soundtrack, it never once ends up with a 'the worst' in any given case.

With that said I think PoFV's my least favourite soundtrack, thankfully there's Fate of Sixty Years, Gensokyo Past and Present, and Poison Body.  Because I really don't like -anything- from that one that isn't a remix [and even then...]

I can't really think of a list because most of the games aren't fresh on my mind, but, with the exception of some songs, I'm definitely pretty tired of PCB's music by this point, with EoSD and IN closely behind. I've been into Touhou for too long, so nowadays I'm mostly into more ZUN's more current music, since it's not as stale.

I don't like how the string instruments were incorporated into the SWR version.  It makes it sound all bright and bouncy.  The PoFV version sounds darker and more low-key, which I think fits the song better.  That and the cello sounds way too scrubby, I mean eww man put some slurs in there for chrissakes

Plus I just like the PoFV version better.

Here goes my list. I don't really think most of these songs are bad but i'm only counting the windows games and i'm listing down the songs i think are the worst representatives for stages 1 to EX including their bosses. I won't be considering menu themes or credits themes as i rarely listen to those at all. Only when i have to.

ZUN is generally an excellent music composer so i'll have to list a lot of songs i really like but are outmatched by their competitors. The only song on this list i actually think sucks is Fires of Hokkai - UFO Stage 6. So eternally boring a track for such a boring stage. Those heartbeats don't help much either.
