If anyone's wondering, the v3 project originated from a conversation I had with helvetica (unfortunately, that was the last conversation we ever had...), where she was supportive of a clean start with the old site becoming read-only. I considered it a failed effort at the time, since Tom and I were never able to contact helvetica again after we had something to show, for permission to go ahead. But we happened to have the start of v3 intact after hearing the news, to coordinate with the remaining admins on this site, and fix up for public release.

It would make sense for a tyrant to establish a benign facade. Makes it easier to rule with an iron fist when nobody's looking. Don't fall for it, everyone!
