Defense of the Shrines 2
Defence of the Shrines 1 was a Touhou DotA spin off which was playable only with War Craft III. Because WC3 was to be purchased in order to play DotS, it was not really accessible to the fans who had no money to buy the games. (Even if they were cheap cheap). After several years and the release of Valve's Dota tools, it seems the chinese development team have made a serious move to spawn DotS2. On MotK there were plans being made by several members to create DotS2 ourselves, but it seems the Chinese community was faster. Faithful fans who played DotS will be pleased to know that it will be based on DotA again and not LoL. We're returning back to core mechanics without the scaling system for STR,INT and AGI.
DotS2 uses the Steam DotA2 workshop it seems, so there will be a possible integration with DotA2 client. Which is for free! And thus DotS2 will be free to play as well at this rate, yay!

How to prepare DotS2
- Download DotA2 client (http://store.steampowered.com/app/570/) to your Steam Library.
- Preparing your DotA2 client for custom modes: read here (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=298142924)
- Basically, rightclick DotA2 in your game library
- Go to DLC tab and tick the Workshop item.
- Your steam will start downloading the workshop files (large).
- Subscribe to DotS2 Alpha Steamworkshop link (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=310066170).
How to play
1. Make sure you are all friends to each other on Steam (or atleast to the hoster)
2. Boot DotA2 as usual
3. Go to Play > Custom Games
4. Drop down the 'Browse By' box and select 'Subscribed Games'
5. Create if you want to host, otherwise you should be able to see existing lobbies.
6. Play DotS2.
Warning
- Game is in heavy Alpha and there are almost no tooltips existant. You will feel lost
- Old DotS item page (http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Defence_of_The_Shrines/Items) on the wiki can maybe help you provide some info. Like a Mushroom / Cucumber giving +2/+1 stats etc.

- Hosting will indeed require huge resources on your PC.
- Upon start, the game launches a seperate 64bit instance or something of DotA2, it didn't crash.
- Loading takes time, don't touch anything. Anything.
- Leaving/disconnecting button isn't implemented yet. Just close the game, you will return to the original DotA2 client.
- If you're hosting, you may want to increase waiting time for loaders. While loading yourself (dota splash logo) hit tilde to open console and type dota_wait_for_players_to_load_timeout 600. This will allow loaders to take 10 minutes to load.

I haven't discovered yet how to exactly install DotS2 ( I am currently at work), but cuc's information should help with that for now.

We did a 2v2 early test : Tapsa (Youmu) + Hele (Tenshi) vs Yookie (Yuyuko) + Xoxx (Mokou)

Memory usage with DotS2 while hosting mid game:
4gb / 8gb
CPU: 60-70% (While streaming, 70-80%)
Few times lag spikes detected by Yookie. Ping was to be around 60ms?

My Ping was ~30 most of the time (but don't take me as a reference point, since I live "near" Hele) and it played perfectly
except for those two lag-spikes which may well have been on my end. Though Xoxx seemed to have one too.

I started installing DotA 2 at about 5pm when Puppy went to work.
It had hit 60% when you started streaming. Least I'll be ready for whenever the next session is. Just need to hope the internet doesn't fail me~ XD

Dota 2 Customs games (including the workshop tool) don't work on non-64bit overall, since the current alpha is only available for 64bit systems.

no thanks, we play dots here, and currently you either want Tenshi (stuns everywhere), Yuyuko (snowball like a boss) or Yuugi (450 pure damage passive procs, works on towers :3)

Edit: Neeeevermind. This PC is rigged with some kind of self-destruct mechanism that makes it violently detonate every time I do anything remotely heavy on it, despite the decent hardware ;_;

Alright, I shoved 64-bit into /another/ machine that can actually handle dota 2. Problem is, it can't quite handle 100% render quality (plus DotS seems to have considerably heavier load on my laptop than normal Dota 2), but lowering render quality glitches healthbars and make them stay like, half the screen away to the left of their owners. I suppose I can play now, but I'd have to choose between lag and no cs every game :V

I hope Valve can help you out sooner or later when the workshop goes 32bit someday.
dots devs seem busy, they fixed some bugs, I would like to test more but havn't had the time.

Seems that user Aphid had already processed a large number of girls by moving them into the new style. He also has been busy adjusting the template (or someone) which fixed the skill bars from breaking everywhere.
Help requested
A few girls (only four or so I think) still are listed in the old style. Kindly requesting help to re-edit their pages into the template style. Just open Youmu as example, copy paste the code for the templates and fill them out. You can add skill technical description or values or remove them by using the Effect1 = Stun duration and Value1 = 1/1.2/1.4/1.6 example to create Dota2 style info. Up to 5 effects can be added so far, but that should be more than enough I think. Otherwise we'll adjust the template to grant more effects/values.

Hello everyone, necrodesu here. Long time no see, yes. Anyone here still interested in DotS, heed my word if you may.
Defence of the Shrines 2 has had its ups and downs even before I was convinced to join it by a certain person. Then it came as revelation that the group is actually almost completely dysfunctional, courtesy to its leader who tends to meet anything from simple suggestion to objective criticism with a challenge to a dick-swinging contest. Forget about player feedback, forget any semblance of the word "teamwork", it is really that bad. As a natural conclusion, some people grew tired of this state of affairs, some fun stuff happened not without my hand in it, and now I've got an exodus of sorts on my hands, ready to take off and pursue a different dream in Dota Workshop. Oh, and leaving the megalomaniac guy virtually the only person in DotS2 who does something (which he made sure of even before said events took place by the way). So, we kinda have a skeleton crew to go with for some time, but we aren't making the same mistake that has felled not one but two DotS games already and shall gladly except any contributions wherever they come from. So, if you want to have something better than expired DotS and think you've got something to contribute to the cause, please leave a note here. I definitely do remember such people hanging around here back in the day. Cheers.
