Title: Poisoned Innocence ~ Medicine Melancholy Quest [Part 01]
Post by: Tamashii Kanjou on May 17, 2011, 11:45:04 PM
You are Medicine Melancholy; a doll that was abandoned at the Nameless Hill. In time, you became a youkai. You are able to manipulate all manner of poison which means, un-surprisingly, that humans tend to stay away from you. This doesn?t matter since hardly anyone comes near the hill these days, save for some bunny and a doctor of sorts. You have ventured outside of it from time to time, but you?re only familiar with the huge garden of sunflowers and the really long river. You have been inside a vast mansion at one point, if only to try and become better around people. Some mysterious girl called Alice talked to you at the party, but you?re not sure what her intentions are; unlike that doctor, who seems to enjoy studying your abilities. So much so that from time to time, she takes you back to what she calls ?Eientei? which is hidden amongst bamboo. The doctor, Eirin, and her rabbits, Reisen and Tewi, have come to know a bit more about you now; as you have grown to know how to go to and fro Eientei back to your valley of poison that you call home.

It has been quite a long time since then and now it is morning; and you?re dancing happily around your poisonous valley. You recall that Eirin wanted to see you today, so you make a note to Su-san not to forget about it.

So, what shall you do?

>Su-san: Make out.
>Su-san: Inventory

There's a time and a place. ><

INVENTORY!

Currently Wearing:

Red Hair Ribbon
Dark Purple Shirt
Red Skirt
Red Shoes

Permanent Item:

Su-san. (You can't lose her so don't even try it.)

You have no money; but then again, it's not like you'll ever shop at the village anyway.  :derp:

>What do we remember of our time as a doll, if anything?
>What about the doctor and her rabbits?
>When was the last time we went exploring?
>What's our field like?

>Not much really. You don't recall who your owner was other than the fact the cruel person threw you away; probably out of anger or boredom. You've not liked humans since then. After that, the poison started to become a part of you and the rest is pretty much history from there.

>Whilst Eirin studies you and treats you well, it was Tewi who found you first; but you knew Reisen more oddly enough before her. Tewi attempts to trick you from time to time, but you see right through her; most times. Reisen is still un-sure about you, but since Eirin knows best, she has relaxed some what.

>It has been a while since you last went exploring. In fact, lately, all you've been doing is going to and from Eientei and your valley. You did cut in to that garden last week though and quickly left; you know first hand what the person who resides there is like.

>Your field is... so poisonous and bright. Well, it's bright to you; it's probably grim as all hell to anyone else. But you love it so much; it's pretty big too.

>Su-zan: QUASTLOG
>What was the theme behind Alice's questions?

Deploying Quests:

Someone Call for a Doctor? (Eirin requested your presence today; possibly for another check-up. It's not wise to keep her waiting, so you better make sure to see her.)

>You, oddly enough. But not as... friendly as Eirin. Alice showed interest in how you moved freely, but you couldn't help but think there was something... different about how she put it. Her little dolls were cute though; maybe you were just nervous...

>What's our relationship with Su-san, anyway?

>Su-san has been with you since you became a youkai. You weren't really sure how or why, but she just wouldn't stop following you. However, you wouldn't have it any other way now; it would feel wrong for her not to be with you now. She moves around but she doesn't talk.

> Retrieve arms from safe.
> When's Eirin coming?

>Oh crap, they fell off.  :V [Fission Mailed; Continue?]

>No silly, she wants you to go to her. Eirin is always busy in her own work.

DOUBLE DOLL FACE-PALM COMBO!

>Whilst the name of it eludes your memory, you remember seeing lots of poisonous flowers there. It seemed to take forever to travel down it though; you not sure why either. A girl with a sharp looking weapon attacked you there, despite her being impressed by you moving around. Some people are weird like that...

>You're not entirely sure. She never seems to stop smiling and looks nice enough. Yet the couple of fights you've had with her... are not the best of things to remember. For now, avoiding her, unless you really have no option, is a safe choice.

>Take flight, to Eirin's office.

>All this lingering around has made you remember that all important quest! You fly off towards the bamboo forest. Thankfully, you've done this trek enough times now to know your way and, with no problems, you end up outside Eientei. Several rabbits are going about their usual business. A few spot you but decide to continue on with their work. You're pretty sure one or two of them are keeping an eye on you; but it shouldn't be a problem.

>Oddly enough, nothing much. At first it amazed you how close you were; now, it's not that big a deal. Once the hills ended, there wasn't that much left till the forest engulfed you. When you think about it, your hill, the garden and the bamboo forest make an odd triangle.

> Maybe Eirin knows something about that person.
> Proceed into the building.
> Do we know where Eirin's office is?  If not, ask one of the rabbits.

>Well, no harm in asking her when you see her.

>You know where it is some what; but some times she isn't there.

>Well, on we.. ARGH! One step forward and, for the first time in a while, you fall into a hole. Not too deep, but a trap nonetheless.

>It has been a while since she set a... non-advanced trap.

>What you know of Tewi is from what you've put together and what you've been told. You know she's a trickster; she plays pranks on everyone. Emphasis on everyone. According to Eirin, however, she is supposed to bring good fortune. You're pretty sure there's either a price for that or it's just another lie.

>Alice has asked you about this before. Since then, you've been trying to, but the ability is hit-and-miss. Sometimes you'll see what Su-san sees. However, you have also knocked yourself out with it. Even for a youkai, that's worrying to you. You tend to not try it unless you think it's really going to be useful.

>Knock her memory around with some poison.

>But not before you release some of that purple aura of yours. Tewi hits the floor face first as her feet give way beneath her. Whilst you didn't shake her memory, it seems like her feet got enough of it to slow her down. A group of rabbits scoop her up and run off.

>Climb (or fly, whatever works) out of the hole.

>You get out of the hole easy enough. You dust yourself down and head to the entrance.

>What do we see as we enter the building?

>You're about to find out as the door slides open to reveal a long-haired rabbit in a short-sleeved white shirt with a red tie and a blue skirt. Her red eyes glance at you as she smiles faintly.

>"Welcome back, Medicine. You don't need me to tell you she's waiting for you."

>She stands to the side to allow you in.

> Continue on your way to Eirin, don't want to miss an appointment.

>As you enter past her, you are reminded of how big the place is. Doors. Everywhere. You never know how long the main corridor goes on for and to be fair, it has never crossed your mind. Thankfully, you know which door belongs to her room; you've counted before and it has stuck with you since then.

>Do we know anyone else, such as other rabbits at Eintei? What about Reisen?
>What's Eirin like?
>What places do we know about in Eintei? Do we know where Tewi's room is, in particular?

>Of course you know Reisen; she was the one who introduced Eirin to you. After that, Tewi is the only other rabbit you know. All the others are just nameless to you.

>Eirin is pretty friendly. She was pretty scary when she first examined you at Eientei, but she has been friendly since. She does treat you like a test subject with some of the words she uses, but you don't really mind. She acknowledges you and treats you well; to Reisen's dismay.

>There's an area where they chill out, which leads back to outside, that you know of. Aside from that and Eirin's room, you don't know the layout of much else. Mainly because you've not been in anyone else's room. Reisen refuses it. As for Tewi, you've guessed a few times before but not found it yet. Maybe you'll try finding it later.

> Head for Eirin's office.

>Aha! Here we here. You go to knock on the door. but remember Eirin told you not to bother. Upon sliding open the door, you find yourself in a room that looks pretty normal for a so-called doctor's room. It has a couple of tables lined against two of the walls; each lined with random items like thin science tubes and sets of syringes. Another table stands in the centre of the room which is quite blank, save for the food in tubs. Along the third wall, to your right, is a desk. Sitting at this desk is the familiar silver-haired doctor with a long white coat on. As she turns around, you make out her usual red and blue patterned attire.

>"Ah, good day to you, Medicine." Such a cheerful voice.

>Suffice to say, girls are now being tested upon. Today, this involves Eirin poking you with a few items and waving some form of 'energy detecting device' as she believes you have literally just been using your power. (Stupid Tewi!) She goes to have a look at Su-san, who evades her for the most part before settling on your head. Eirin leaves her be and focuses more on you again; using some of the tubes from the other table. After making you use your poison abilities on the liquid in some of them, one of them explodes. You're slightly startled by it, whilst Eirin chuckles.

>"Perhaps that's enough for today." She sighs as she wanders back to her desk. "I have what I need for today, thank you. Be sure to take one of the boxes on the table as you leave."

> How many boxes are on the table, and what do they look like?
> How are we usually informed of our next appointments?
> Ponder asking Eirin why she performs tests on us.

>There are three boxes; you can see the contents inside since the layer of the box is transparent. One has what look like similar flowers to your valley. One has a random assortment of food crammed into it. The other is some item you've never seen before. In fact, there are two of them in there. Whatever they are, they are small and curvy. You wonder how one is meant to use them.

>Eirin has her ways about this. Some times she'll tell you, some times she'll send Reisen to deliver a message to you and some times she'll do it in other ways. Come to think of it, there's a piece of paper in each of the boxes.

>You've asked her before. At first you thought it was because you were a doll gone youkai. But it's more to do with your extensive use over poison. That and she loves creating new antidotes; so the poison helps test that. She has tried to figure out how the poison made you move in the first place, but that's probably another reason why she's doing this. In return, she has treated you kindly, so you don't think it's a problem.

To have flowers of that size means she probably has a unique way of making them so. I've spoken to her once before and she didn't portray an intimidating character. In fact, she was quite polite and happy. Perhaps she is different with everyone."

> "Oh, and what are these curvy things?"

>You exit the room and decide to go to the 'lounge' as it were. It really only consists of a comfy floor, a kotatsu (which isn't really needed right now so it's just used as a mini table) and several cushions lying around. As you headed towards it, you noticed some of the other doors. Counting wise, you can make out a few of them you've gone through to try and find Tewi's room.

> Examine the curvy things further.

>As you take a seat beside the kotatsu, you put the box on it and open it up. After putting the paper to the side, without even reading it, you hold up the curvy items. You grab what appears to be a place to grip the object and, sure enough, it seems to be exactly as Eirin said. Grabbing the handle allows the object to curve round your hand; acting either as a weapon or a barrier. It feels right to you, but it doesn't do anything.

>You're not sure if it has an odour, per-se; after living amongst poison for so long, it probably smells too normal now. That garden lady mentioned no one liking you because you smelt when you first encountered her, so you're sure it smells of something to others.

>Do we have any noteworthy enemies? Anyone that hates us in particular?

The only motive I can think of for Eirin doing this is (she does have extracts of our poison, or something similar to it, and so is the other one capable of doing this) to make money selling antidotes. Or perhaps fame. Not getting anything out of it ourselves would be the only effective explanation for not being an active accomplice.

>Are we base enough to enjoy some schadenfreude? It's not like we have many tears to shed for doll slavers and abusers.

>If Reita wasn't around, you'd probably be dancing and full of joy. Inside, you're pretty glad someone gave these humans some just-deserved pain; you HAVE wanted revenge for a reason. But you get the feeling if you aired that right now, you'd have fun convincing Mr Serious Shinigami here you didn't do it.

> Keep walkin'.
> Are there any sick people in here?

>As you keep walking, Reita turns into a room with its door already opened. Most of the window panes are all blacked up; probably meaning no one is meant to be peering in. You feel poison inside the school, so you're probably sure there are some in here too.

>"Oh, this is a sight I wasn't expecting."

>The slightly surprised voice belongs to the lady at the far end of the room. She has long silver hair with blue highlights and a blue dress that just covers her knees. She has quite the odd looking hat from your prospective; in fact, it looks like a mini model of one of the houses outside but with a ribbon on it.

>"Sorry to intrude, Keine Kamishirasawa. It's just... he sent me."

>This normally depends on the person and how strong the sense of poison is. Even then, control is quite hard to maintain. But you can't sense any from him at all; which makes this scene worse. That blade is still there and he's not showing any sign of pulling it away either.

>"Wait, what? No! But, um, you touched me, and people who touch me usually get poisoned bad. Maybe that's it?"

HISTORY LESSON #01

Medicine Melancholy was attacked by Komachi, a shinigami based along the Sanzu River. The intention was for her to be chased away, but Medicine over-came her; despite the poison not working to its full potential. She later took on The Yama herself; who Komachi works for. Despite her best attempts, Medicine was beaten; but not before she made The Yama aware that she could indeed control a great deal of poison, even in new surroundings.

As poor a choice as it might be, it might be worth it to try to find Higan again to try and squeeze info about Hartmann and such from Komachi and the Yama. We DID encounter a shinigami, after all, though going straight to the source might be unpleasant...

Yeah, I'm wary about Reimu shooting us on sight, and same with Marisa.  They're humans, though, so there's a chance they've been affected by the poison, too.  Higan kind of sounds like a good idea, now that I think of it.  I was leaning towards the mansion because it's most likely the SDM and Patchouli is there, but I don't think Medicine even knows her, so that probably wouldn't cross her mind.  Also it would be kind of awkward and she's already been chased out of two places today.

>The party at the mansion was written up in a newspaper article, from what you gather after seeing Eirin a day or two after it. It was basically a party about the lady of the mansion going to the moon in a thing called a rocket. The rocket had a name, three names in fact, but you don't really remember them; Alice had most of your attention that night. The flower lady spoke to you too, though you have a feeling her and Alice know each other. They were... friendly but not. Like rivals or something.

>Since you've had encounters with the red-white and black witch, you know not to get on their bad side. Come to think of it, there was a maid who you had a fight with that looked exactly like the one at the mansion; maybe she works for the lady there. Other then that, you've encountered a tengu known as Shameimaru, who wrote the newspaper about the mansion party. She has taken photos of you before, after you tried to scare her off with poison. She certainly left in a rather different state, yet always came back for more.

>You've been inside the Forest of Magic briefly after Alice attempted to take you to her house one night. You weren't sure what to do at the time, but the black witch showed up and, after some arguing, managed to go off with Alice and left you. After that, you wandered around quite lost; coming out of about three different places in the forest. One was a clearing which had some form of house there. Now that you think about it, it seems a lot like the clearing to the village where you are now; the house is still sitting there up ahead. The second was a path leading to a set of steps. You never gave it any thought, but if you found the path again, you probably could find it again. The third opening spat you back near the bamboo forest. Suffice to say, you knew where you were going at that point.

Surely the red white wouldn't attack you just because the entire Human Village is being affected by a poison, and you're a poisonous doll who's been seen in the Village lately!

... Well, there's another red white standing right next to you! She'll back you up, right? And it's not like the other red white will attack the red white next to you, since it might mean she'll hurt another human, and possibly seriously injure her!

... Yeah, you're boned.

>"What do you mean, 'it's always her'? Who's this 'her'?"

>"She is an annoying yet powerful youkai by the name of Yukari Yakumo. I'd advice against finding her, however. She is lazy, and since she travels through gaps in the boundaries that exist, finding her would take time you don't have."

>Patchouli slams her book shut and the maid comes back round; carrying a couple more books.
>"Everyone has an ability that can be hard to explain how it works if you have not spoken to the person about it." She continues as the maid drops the books next to her chair. "Whilst we may still recall what was once there, it is simply hidden from view to make it like it was never there. Whether she can do more than that, like remove it completely from our minds, is something I wouldn't mind finding out."

>Su-san takes note.

>Patchouli almost smirks when you mention Reita being the main shinigami.
>"He is indeed a special one; for reasons I can't say since he himself has said that The Yama forbids him. However, you must understand that he has two moods, if you will. One mood is him being serious; he thinks something is right but isn't fully sure if it's right. In this mood, he can sometimes contradict himself and makes assumptions based on it. You have to be careful with how you word things; his mood can flip even on his better days."
>Patchouli takes a deep breath; no coughing this time.
>"His other mood is deadly serious; no-pun-intended. His stance and behaviour will normally match this. In that mood, he is always right; so you had best pray you don't find yourself facing him like that."

>She throws her previously closed book into the pool and...
