Hey guys! For y'alls wanting to judge, here are the links to every entry. Judge each entry out of 10, provide a small synopsis as to why you rated each entry as such. Be sure to PM your judgements to Drake, he will tally everything and reveal a winner on November 7th, so have your judgements in before then!

It's finally time for our 7th Danmakufu contest:
All Hallow's Even 2: Let's make a stage!
That' right, people, it's that time again. Both for a new contest, and for Halloween. Since there was just so much positive feedback in regards to a stage contest, the Powers That Be decided it would be a good idea. This contest has a Halloween theme to it, and for the first time, we're going to make you guys create a whole stage. Enemy design, stage structure, moving backgrounds, you're all gonna have to push your abilities to the limits with this one.
Judging this time around will be much different. This time around we'll have Community Voting. This means that instead of me judging all of your crap, anyone who wants to can play all the scripts, judge each one and give their scores (out of ten) with a short summary to me. I will tally up the scores and determine the winner based on this.
Rules and tips:- Scare people. It's Halloween you bastards, be creative. Surprise insta-kills are a bad thing though, don't do that.
- Stages are recommended to be at least 40 seconds long. This is a contest based on the whole stage, you don't need some piddly thing. In the same way, don't make it too long. I will slap you if it's PCB Stage 4 long.
- Bosses are recommended to have two nonspells and two spells. You cannot have any more, but you can have less. Having less just means less danmaku funtime for everybody.
- Midboss is optional. Two nonspells and one spell at max.
- Work on your background, sound effects and music choices. A good stage (especially a Halloween-centric stage) needs good synergy with its setting and theme; it shouldn't be boring for the player.
- Any scripts I find with errors popping up are disqualified. If people have trouble extracting it (i.e. you aren't using relative pathnaming or you have some dumb lib\shotsheet thing going on), also disqualified. Has to work out of the box.
- I discourage giving extra score to an entry with super fandangled shiny graphics. Nice graphics is a great thing to have, but there is a difference between nice and "you didn't really need to make it that shiny". Spend more time on impressive danmaku and stages.
- Having two difficulties is recommended. Not all people play the same difficulty, so having only one difficulty poorly balanced is a big no-no. It isn't a must, but as your peers are judging you you'll want to be careful with balancing.
- Anyone can judge the scripts, even if they haven't entered, or even really know anything about danmakufu at all! (although really you should know a bit hopefully) Obviously, nobody can judge their own script.
- All your votes will be pruned through by yours truly. You should have solid reasons for giving someone a certain score, and if it looks as if there's a bias involved I'll call you out on it / throw it out.
All scripts must be submitted by 11:59:59 PST (GMT-8), October 31. This means you have a whole two and a half weeks to work on this. Entries two seconds late will be accepted.
All judgments must be submitted by 11:59:59 PST, November 6. Preferably much sooner.
Go.

Anniversary contest, mofos. Let's do this.
-
Aww yeah finally a contest where I can participa----
a whole stage
y u du dis drak
-
It's my fault, isn't it? The fact that we're getting a Stage contest. Bah, back then I had no idea what a pain that stuff is.
We'll see if I join or not based on if I can figure out how to make a basic Stage.
-
All right!
Exams are over ! Imma gonna participat-Aww yeah finally a contest where I can participa----
a whole stage
y u du dis drak
FFFFFFFFFFFFFF
Dayum u drakums
Oh well.
Lets rip off koishi hell
Or smack in some BROFISTS
Event though i'm already working on another stage. I'll whip something up.
Eventually.
I'm probably gonna make a kickass entry that's so polish then break a few rules and achieve last place
PROTIP: PCB STAGE 4 IS 4 Minutes Long (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvgiSe1ypb4)
-
< Insert Stuffman's Gorilla Glue image >
I am curious what results we are going to get.
SPOILER : Also I am extremely biased in this contest when I am going to vote. Some elements will increase my scoring, and some will decrease. But which will do what? Who knows.
Good luck all. ( '.')b

Whoa... an entirely new contest out of nowhere... let's see if I can still make crap months after my last released script :V (and how much crappier I got after so long)
Entries two seconds late will be accepted.
How about 2.01 seconds? :ohdear:

As the gentleman above has already quote explained. You failed to read the thread.

Yay! It's time to make some danmaku scripting! ... even if I don't celebrate halloween here.

I'm always lurking on the garage from my work :P and I have tons of stuff to download from here too >_<.
-
... even if I don't celebrate halloween here.
It's hard to get holidays that absolutely everybody celebrates, so we just roll with ones that most people at least know about.
-
Alright, cool. I'm hoping we wind up doing a Halloween-themed contest every year, both for tradition and because it's a subject with a lot of creative potential.
Ahhhh, where am I gonna find time to do this though? :ohdear:
-
As the gentleman above has already quote explained. You failed to read the thread.
Nah, I had already read the thread.
I only had a stronge urge to say that.
-
Oh man it's seriously been a year since the first contest?
Crazy
Entries two seconds late will be accepted.
:smug: :smug:
-
Hmm... I don't know if I'll have enough time to make an entry for this contest, unless I put my current programming project on hold, which is most definitely probably a really bad idea.
-
From reading the reviews on last year's contest, I assume the script needs to have pumpkins and candies and stuff instead of just ... something scary ?
-
The rules were kinda vague last time. Well it was the first contest after all. Also this time scripts are peer reviewed so while the criteria for what might make a script more halloweenish may vary from person to person, overall it should even out so that you'll still get marks as long as your script is relevant to Halloween in some way...
...Hopefully :3
I'd just do both to be on the safe side :3
-
Halloween theme. Creativity. That's pretty much it for the required element, just actually do something related to Halloween. How you do it is up to you, how well it does is up to everyone else.
-
Yes! Another contest! Another opportunity to go against everyone's works! I can't wait to see the other's scripts! Time to put everything I've learned in action!
-
If we were to include a Last Spell-type card, with requirements to see, would that count against the 2SC limit?
-
This makes me wonder if it's possible to make a CAVE- style stage in danmakufu.
How about a Deathsmiles inspired script?
-
If we were to include a Last Spell-type card, with requirements to see, would that count against the 2SC limit?
You... really don't need to do that. It would still count against the limit if you did though. Also to note, I discourage survival cards in general for this contest. It isn't forbidden, but a survival card isn't really something that belongs in such a short boss fight anyways.
This makes me wonder if it's possible to make a CAVE- style stage in danmakufu.
wellllllllll
How about a Deathsmiles inspired script?
Has to work with most characters, sry. And by most I mean characters without fancy schmancy shitgiggles that break everything they weren't intended for.
-
Wow, it sounds like a lot of fun, maybe I'll try (still have to finish learning danmakufu though :V).
So, I was wondering, is it possible to include a certain :P as a deathfairy instead of a midboss or boss? I have already planned those spots for different characters, and I wanted to include her in my script because she's scary., so... can I?
-
This makes me wonder if it's possible to make a CAVE- style stage in danmakufu.
http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1247
Deathsmiles
That ... is actually fitting for this.
Now I have to find another idea :(
-
I'm debating whether or not to try making something for this. On one hand, whatever I do can't be any worse than what I did for the first contest, but on the other, I haven't touched Danmakufu in months, and...creativity required? That's going to be a hard prerequisite for me to meet.
Regardless, I'm interested in seeing how this contest turns out.
-

Wait so we're not allowed to limit the players to the defaults or just Marisa something like that?
-
Limiting it to the defaults will fulfill those requirements, silly. I don't want the script to be designed for some random player. Just saying that having a script that requires the player to shoot backwards (DS) or something would be bad.
-
Hi Jaimers (http://bulletforge.org/u/sasupoika/p/doom-red-label/v/031)

If we create and include a player file intended for use with the stage (inside the script file so no extra installation BS) and make the stage only use that player, would that be permissible? Or do you want us to just stick to standard danmaku gameplay?
I'm thinking about making a stage with a gimmick that would require a custom player script.

Argg stages are so difficult to make.
How the hell does people still balance difficulty and no. of bullets on screen when there's like loads of enemies you're spawning and players can kill them in any order. asdfjasdfasdfas :ohdear:
And it's like "whoa it's just been a year?" to me. Feels like it's been forever since the first contest O_o.
RaNGE has gone through so much change in just one year. There's like way more scripters now :O.
It's like I'm much less enthusiastic about danmakufu now than a year ago. :/
Maybe it's just I'm out of ideas. ;-; Hopefully I'll get an idea out of nowhere later.
Contests are like good motivation to get something done in danmakufu. At least it is for me. :V
Edit: typos

Which is good. I don't know if I can safely say this, but I think we are the biggest western community forumboard with Danmakufu being put strongly in the spotlight. I know that Google has a Danmakufu section as well, but don't know how active it is.
A year ago this forum was dead. Now we have some what discussions and a room for everybody to show off stuff.
It's like I'm much less enthusiatic about danmakufu now than a year ago. :/

Ask Stuffman how long he has been busy with PoSR :V ( even I am already more than year busy with Dance Contest ) It is called 'real life'

Next contest will be: "Make full game". So this is just a warming up :V
Danmakufu Contest #9 - Make your own series of shoot-em-up game.
Your series will have to consist of at least three games and one spin off game.
Each game requires at least 6 stages and an extr(ry

And the name of the contest will be: "Enter the ZUN"

Should've known I wasn't going to be the only one who did this. If it makes you feel better, I was going to do it regardless of disqualification :V

As long as it works out of the box. If you wanna go the extra mile then go right ahead, I suppose.

Kinda a goofy question but can the midboss make multiple appearences like Alice in PCB as long as it doesn't go over the limits?
-
Kinda a goofy question but can the midboss make multiple appearences like Alice in PCB as long as it doesn't go over the limits?
No. As a workaround, don't give said midboss a lifebar, just make it a death fairy, that way it's technically not a midboss so they can have as much crap as you want :V
Oh you probably mean breaking up the two attacks+spells across multiple appearances. In that case *shrug*

It is a stage! Those DOOMs are enemies, not bosses!

I'm using my custom cutin function that does not require CreateEnemyBossFromFile which means my stage does not have a boss, which means I can't go over the limits :smug:

So to
recycle some old danmaku and then blame it on Satori get some inspiration I decided to check out some scripts of previous winners in earlier contests... I played Helepolis' halloween 09 script and... and.... :colonveeplusalpha:

Waaah, I want to parcitipate so badly...but I couldn't figure out how to make stages so far...(Well, I tried once...and suddenly I got more ideas for the bossfight i'm working on, soo ... bye bye first stage attempt)
Dammit I knew I should have participated in Contest #6!
I will try to make some crappy stage+boss attempt this week out of old things I made and then I decide if I try to make something halloweenish and of course BETTER out of it...
(It's not going to work >_<)
Anyways, I will at least judge the other scripts!(But hey! I'm REALLY bad in Danmaku! Be fair to the players, okay D:)
(Did I reallz just used a school computer to write that oO)

- Having two difficulties is recommended. Not all people play the same difficulty, so having only one difficulty poorly balanced is a big no-no. It isn't a must, but as your peers are judging you you'll want to be careful with balancing.
Does this rule imply that in addition to our "Normal" difficulty we need an Easy Modo for accessibility or a Suikama Mode for profit? :V Just to be safe I'll make both
-
A Normal and Harder-ish difficulty would suffice? You don't need it, it's just more enjoyable for an experienced player to play something that isn't like riding a merry-go-round and a less-experienced player to play something that doesn't rape their face.
suikama mode is a terrible idea
-
Does this rule imply that in addition to our "Normal" difficulty we need an Easy Modo for accessibility or a Suikama Mode for profit? :V Just to be safe I'll make both
In general, you should make an easier and a more difficult one, so that a larger amount of players can enjoy it.
You will usually want one that is at about normal mode difficulty (or a little easier) and another one that is harder.
You should neither make your script easymodo only or else most people will find it boring by default, nor should you make your script exclusively hard or harder because most people will just get frustrated.
Dammit, lunardial'd!
-
suikama mode is a terrible idea
so is this what were calling it now
-
I challenge Suikama to make a 'normal' script. No, not the difficulty. I want to see if he can actually make a script without instagib Unzan-Brofistlasers or psychadelic LSD-inspired themes. :V

So abstract that I don't know what it is about!
The story
Suddendly, ghosts and aberrations! Are you bad enough loli to beat them?
Features:
- Two difficulties ( Deep One {Easy} and Outer God {Original} )!
- Scoring system based on chaining point-items!
- Custom animated bullet-sheet!
- Awesome music by Udderdude!
- Bad coding.
- A secret!
Download! (http://www.mediafire.com/?gfh1at815jy6s1a)
Known bugs:
- Sometimes homing shots will try to go off-screen. This was reported to me, but I could not replicate it.
-
Oh man first blood~
Those are some sexy animated bullets.
-
- Cannot comment much on the difficulty. Deep One took me two continues :ohdear:
- Overall quite fun to play, though.
- STYLE IS WONDERFUL OH GOD
- Animated bullets is love.
- I see an Espgaluda pattern :3
-
Hm...
Gonna comment on Sasupoika's entry.
- Fu-... how do you even make the scoring system?
- This is easy. 1cc'd the script on my first try (by the way, I tried Outer God first) The replay is here: [attachurl=1]
- The nice darkening effect and the enemies is fucking beautiful. I want to steal your skills. :derp:
- Anyways, it's a nice entry. Let's see what everyone else has to present.
8.5/10 (God this one is easy)

that one pattern smells of HELLSINKER

Lolwut :V Can never not laugh at the intro.
Anyways, holyshit the background it's so trippy
/me spazzes happily
Anyways the stage is fucking longer than PCB Stage 4 for me. Massive amount of points taken off. *rageragerage*
This is made up for by Reimu dressing like fucking Shinki. :V
Then there's the boss battle.
Since you use Paint.NET, you can tile Reimu over Marisa or something and have all three of them (Reimu, Marisa, and Wriggle) be visible at the same time. :3 Just a suggestion. (Also, why is Wriggle randomly skipping around instantly? Suggestion: Draw the fireflies separately and make them revolve around Wriggle instead of in the same sprite as her.)
Now for the non-spell.
The randomly turning bullets. Have you been playing ChaoStar's shit? It has a lot of it. :V It always gets me...
First spell:
Bright lights on something made for Halloween. Pretty unique there, but not for the better, if you ask me. :|
Second spell:
Why do the Wriggles suddenly disappear like that? Try making them fade away or something, at least. ???
(Also, have you been messing with my computer or something? I once had a spell card exactly like this. Clones and all...)
Third spell:
Surprise! No spell card bonus for this one! This one is the best part of the entry, if you ask me. :V Music = fitting, image is fucking trippy, and yeah. (Sometimes I even skip everything just for this part of the boss battle...)
Rating: 5/10

Because boolit foarge is still being a dick, not letting me upload any archive that contains sound files for some reason, have a mediafire link instead:
A Rainy Evening v1.1 (http://www.mediafire.com/?3zguttt7rr9e9uy)
[attachimg=1]
2:20 in length, with a four-phase boss at the end.
Available in the normal-ish Just a drop and the lunatic-ish The whole bottle.
I hope those are the difficulties, at least. :flamingv:
Not entirely happy with it, but I don't really have the inspiration nor the time to make large improvements.
Then again, it is better than my entry for the first halloween contest, I suppose, if only by a small margain. :V
If you are wondering why everything looks so horrible, it is because everything save for the shotsheet and a single sprite image was drawn by yours truly in MSPaint.
Edit: I updated the entry insofar as that there are now "lite" versions of the script, i.e. versions with reduced backgrounds for those who got slowdown from them. It also features miniscule aesthetic changes to two boss attacks. :derp:

My apologies to anyone who tried to use BulletForge in the past half week or so. On Friday, I upgraded the site to use the latest version of Ruby and Rails at the same time and neglected to do any testing. Although I had fixed most of the issues after they were reported to me, I still forgot to check some settings. Turns out I had something limiting the upload limit to 5MB which is why stuff with many sound files (which tend to be huge) couldn't be uploaded. All this has been fixed so feel free to use BulletForge again if you want. Since I worked on it a little recently, maybe I'll bug Totaku again to see what's up with his disappearance and see if I can get cracking on having a real design again.
-
Oh man everyone's entries are rocking so far
-
All three of them.
Come on people, you have four days. Can't judge a contest with only a few entries very well!
-
And the days shall be used to their fullest :3
-
Iryan's entry.
How the fuck do you make that wavy effect with the boss?!
/me looks into the code
Anyways, the stage took way longer than 2:20 (7:45!!), you sure you played at 60 (or rather, 57) FPS?
The stage is really repetitive, and a lot of the time, you put lots of walls (not really) and holyshitturning bullets, which generally is a bad idea, if said bullets turn indefinitely (StB-Wriggle style). :/
7/10.
-
Dude, you start judging them once the deadline hits because then you have a global standard to work with. You send your judgments to me through PM, not this thread :P
EDIT: I suggest you go over your judgments once all the entries are in, but yeah whatever.
-
/me derps
You do have what I'm giving, so uh... is it still alright?
-
6.5/10 (God this one is easy)
( That replay desyncs with my computer for some reason... )
But did you 1-miss it? There is a surprise~
-
( That replay desyncs with my computer for some reason... )
But did you 1-miss it? There is a surprise~
Yeah, it desyncs on my computer, too. I dunno why... Every replay (for Danmakufu) I make does that...
No, I didn't 1 miss i- don't you mean no-miss it?
-
Well, 1-miss or no-miss, there is a surprise~
-
All three of them.
Well, its certainly reassuring to see that I'm not the only one who's behind- I'll probably submit mine 2 seconds after the deadline if I'm lucky :derp:
By the by, nice scripts so far I think- it's strange, I imagined this contest would be a strict and traditional sort of pumpkins and candy corn Halloween but I'm glad to be wrong :V
-
Submission for GenericTouhouGuy.
Because I'm retarded, I got probated.
And this is why I'm sending my submission through PM.

The link doesn't work for me :( It looks like I can't open any pages on Bulletforge anymore.
-
Same with me...
Blargel what the hell did you do now ::)
Seems like Bulletforge has a looooong downtime today...
-
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF (lol un-probated)
shit, my files are on the other computer. :ohdear:
I'll see if I can upload to mediafire soon.
-
Last place, here I come!
http://www.mediafire.com/?9ky9d0sbcbe5boc
(fixed)
And because I suck, the harder version may contain impossibilities.
-
(Needs ctc shot replace...)
Read the rules again. Then make your script unconditionally unzip-and-playable. Then reupload.
If necessary, go here (http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,4752.0.html).

The hell? I didn't touch it at all today... If it broke, then my brother must've done something...
Didn't want to blame you, 'cause you're doing us all a favor with bulletforge and I appreciate that!
But it seems like it is still not working very well, though, but don't get upset, when I make my silly comments that are not intened to be mean! D:
-
Huh, Bulletforge was working just fine for me.
I won't be able to submit this time thanks to ~*=homeworks=*~. All I've got so far is the patterns needed for the script and barely any graphic or stage layout at all :ohdear:
-
HOLY CRAAAAAAAPPP!!!! I MIGHT ACTUALLY FINISH!!!
GET READY FOR SUPER UNBALANCED SHIT THROWN AT YOUR FACE JUST LIKE ALL MY OTHER SCRIPTS BWAHAHAHAHAH!!! :V
but I seriously think I'm getting worse than this... haven't made anything in so long

Same with me...only that I actually NEVER released anything before...
-
Er...Here is my entry for this contest.
-Self-composed music (It's just MIDI but therefore you can find a GP5 inside the bgm folder)
-Engrish
-2 difficulties:
-Normal
-Hard
(I don't think that Normal and Hard can be compared to ?Touhou Normal/Hard?.
Here it means that the Hard difficulty is just harder than the easier difficulty)
Thema verfehlt. 6, setzen.
Note:
60 FPS are recommended. Try to play in Fullscreen mode (Alt+Enter), it might help you at getting 60 FPS.
Download link: http://www.mediafire.com/?pqzfblwta7yarho
Known problems:
-It's possible that the music isn't loaded properly. A restart (Backspace) might fix this.
-The background starts to look weird on some computers after a while.
@Zerro: I extracted your entry. I don't know whether it's just me but your scripts don't show the replaced shots properly.
-
The hell? I didn't touch it at all today... If it broke, then my brother must've done something...
It's still doing this:
[attach=1]
Oh and to actually add content to this post
Mirror for sound version (16MB) Mediafire (http://www.mediafire.com/?kmgzapnyspixzxv)
Mirror for NO sound version (5MB) Mediafire (http://www.mediafire.com/?kvoy1befu4zyyez)
If these are not working, let me know.
Also, my entry is really easy to clear. To get a good score is a different thing. if you got more than 23000000 points for your Clear Bonus, you have died less than 15 times.
Some parts of lunatic are either really tricky or near impossible D= (yay lack of skills to test)
-
Okay, my shniggies, I have prepared a new version that contains "lite" versions of the script, meaning versions where the background is reduced and easier to process.
...at least that was the intent. :derp:
Giddit 'ere! (http://www.mediafire.com/?3zguttt7rr9e9uy)

I'm seriously getting worse at this :V
2 difficulties: Normal and Lunatic... although normal seems like hard and lunatic seems like lunatic+
EDIT: Fixed the link, forgot to add sound effects to one spell card :V

Got mine done. :D Can't believe I actually managed to finish this in time.

Title : This is why you go to the bathroom before you sleep.
Modes : Easy mode (Around normal difficulty of touhou games) and Horrifying mode (between hard to lunatic).
Description : The story is kinda a sequel to my entry for the 1st Contest, but basically what you need to know is that in that script you went up to a house to trick or treat, then person inside threw candy at you IN DANMAKU FORM.
This one took place at the midnight of the same night the player went trick or treating, basically the plot is you had to wake up at night to use the toilet.
I tried to make this scary, because I think bathrooms are scary at night. >_<
During my test run, stage took about 2:30 mins and boss took less than 2 minutes. However, there are several parts where how long it lasts depends on how long you take to kill the enemies so length of the stage may vary.
Anyways, hope you all have fun with this script. :3
-
Alright, I think I'm done.
Halloween Entry (http://www.mediafire.com/file/136t1ba9cw3a3na/Contest_7_Schezo.zip)
Comes in two difficulties, Normal and Lunatic. I don't play Lunatic so I'm not sure about the balancing. :/
Anyways, enjoy, as my goal here was to make a fun playable script. :P
-
This is why you go to the bathroom before you sleep.

*go to type entry comments*
-
Okay guys, looks like mine is going to be a last-minute entry.
Don't worry I want to and I will finish it in time!
But it is nothing special at all, I'm just to stupid and to lazy to make it better D:
But please let me participate :3
-
asdfoasjf done everything except that actual danmaku :ohdear:
-
Submit it anyway BV
-
Man, doing work under pressure is one thing, but having to be creative? :ohdear:
-
dude you had like forever
-
I also had midterms.
Anyways I think I'll be able to finish, so long as I can come up with just a few decent patterns.
-
It...is...done...*dies*
Ok, enough of that.
Yeah, I'm done...It is...crappy, but I'm happy with it, becuase it was fun^^
I hope you like it or at least some parts of it ;3
DOWNLOAD-LINK ON MEDIAFIRE:
http://www.mediafire.com/?i0b86qpy1iwkk1e
To ALL who already downloaded a version, when this message wasn't here:
Download it again, please! The music in the old version is not working correctly! Also this file is only half as big btw...
And since Blargel fixed Bulletforge (thanks!) there is also a Downloadlink there for people who have problems with mediafire.
The scripts uploaded are the same!
http://bulletforge.org/u/grumskiz/p/danmakufu-contest-7-grumskizs-entry/v/version-3
So, hope it works fine, because I didn't have the time to make some serious testing, but don't be afraid, it should work^^
Maybe it is a little impossible at some places and then to easy, but hey first release u know :V
Well, normal and lunatic are the two difficulties, although the bossfight is not very hard on both of them and the stages are nearly the same, due to lack of programming skill and time to accomplish it.
Used some libraries and graphics from other people and I hope I credited most of them and if not, please excuse that...
Well, I will play the other scripts tomorrow I think...
€dit:
I hope that was in time D:
I really don't know, because I had to think in three or four times at the same time...eastern canadian to german to MoTK time from which I hope it is the right on ^^'
Happy Halloween^^

Yup, I commented on it in my part of the judgement.

Actually, all the sprites in the stage are from the aforementioned. :V

screw it I have a headache now
note this is a full game file and not just the script file so dont be shoving it in your script folder (http://www.mediafire.com/?op858k4k6r8gixq)
Have fun getting lost and avoiding lame patterns, only to get luck sacked and have to start over again :/
But honestly I spent too much time on the stage gimmick which I didn't even get to finish. Oh well I guess I'll have take another crack at it some other day.
-
The more rooms you enter, the more the game starts to lag. Got to 10fps with 5 lives and 2 spirit thingies left to find...
Also, include some damn enemies lol
-
But honestly I spent too much time on the stage gimmick which I didn't even get to finish. Oh well I guess I'll have take another crack at it some other day.
Me too. I had made like 5 different stage gimmicks and got rid of a lot of them as they made the game too complex.
stuff that were removed:
- Uwabami Breakers-ish Life system / MOF scoring system
- Imperishable Night's Time system (was replaced by CtC's Final Reimu time counter)
- Instant death on wrong path chosen (now replaced with alternate midbosses)
- Multiple bosses (no time and inspiration lol)

Sounds like stacking loops or tasks that don't end

And easy mode, even though the original is pretty easy as well. (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?kx7oub6fhpm1uur)
Backup the normal version, then replace the boss/foe folder with the new ones. Post-midboss is still pretty tough no matter what I do, sorry :V

Does that mean it doesn't work D:
Just wondering:
I'm using GetCurrentScriptDirectory and that Custommade GetPreviousScriptDirectory that tends to work better for some people than ..\.
But can I use these in in #include_function or #BGM?
€dit:
Ok, seems like ..\ only causes crashes for me evewnthough Danmakufu seems to get the right path.
Well, please give me some advice to fix that or I think I will get disqualified D:

GetCurrentScriptDirectory/GetPreviousScriptDirectory only works for strings and such, while ".\" and "..\" only works for #include_function
Thanks a lot!
Th problem is Danmakufu raises a problem, when I put ..\ in my #include_function
I will try to place every lib in the folder where my scripts, but that will be ugly
EDIT:
I tried to fix it, but I have no idea if it works, cause there is no Danmakufu on this PC...
Everything should work now with .\ in include_function and I hope this is my final version...

Man I wish I could find out the problem to that. Initially it lagged like hell after just 5 rooms, so then I fixed that by terminating my while loops, but it seems there's still something that keeps running...Me, too. Suikama, would you please upload a map of the building so we can see what we're even doing?
I was going to implement a map on the right side but no time :/

Anyways, lags happened after ~40 rooms. I looked around inside the code. It doesn't seem to have any DeleteGraphic / Obj_Delete; and considering DMF had to draw like 2~3 portals per room ... this is probably the cause ? :/
P.S.
SetLife(666);

For the portals, all I do is set the Object verticies from all 0, to whatever size they are, The objects are all just loaded once at the very beginning.
Also there are two "scary" parts. I wonder if anyone has reached both of them yet?

With my impeccable timing, I have fixed BulletForge (again) 18 hours after the deadline for this contest, effectively rendering the BulletForge site completely pointless for this contest. Hooray for me. So yeah turns out the server went down for a few minutes for something (server move or something?) and then came back up which is when everything was supposed to start up again automatically. Nope. Instead we had a certain module in the BulletForge server process refusing to load for no apparent reason, causing a downtime for days. So yeah, I think being a real sysadmin would not a good career choice for me. Good thing that's not actually the career I'm pursuing, eh? :V
In all seriousness though, sorry for all the instability with BulletForge lately, especially since this was a time when a lot of you were uploading things. Crap like this shouldn't happen again and even if it does, it wouldn't take nearly as long to fix as it did this time. If I do decide to mess with it again, I'll be sure not to do it during the week of a contest's deadline. :ohdear:
EDIT: Suikama, interesting script. As for the slow down, going between rooms isn't what causes slowdown. If you just start the game and then hold spacebar to speed up it up, you'll notice the framerate will drop even without you doing anything. I'll dig around a little more but looking at the script in notepad is horrid (try it, I dare you).
EDIT2: Wow this is hilarious. Apparently modifying an effect object's properties (maybe only some properties) causes some lingering overhead processing. Great job mkm on a fabulous job on optimization. I found this out by commenting out everything in the turntables task except for the last two lines, the yield and the recursive call to itself. When Danmakufu no longer set the vertex positions every frame, framerate didn't drop anymore. Anyways, because you were setting vertex positions EVERY frame for a crapload of objects in the turntables task, the lingering overhead processing built up really really fast. You need to rewrite it so that it sets the vertex positions only when they need to change.

Oh man thanks a bunch Blargel :D
Hmm, I wonder if changing it from being a recursive task to just a loop would do anything. :3

Well you didn't do it last night so :I
-
I'm sorry I forgot ;_;
-
As far as I understand it, everyone is allowed to judge, but nevertheless I ask because
I don't want to appear in a bad light afterwards  :
1. Do you mind if I judge as someone who only has little experience with shoot 'em ups?
2. Drake, do you mind if I burden you with some more work this late?
-
Arrays, large graphics, trigonometry...
...Modifying effect objects... The list grows :(
Yup, except the difference here is that if you used a bunch of huge arrays and large graphics in the game and then get to a part in the game where you aren't using em, the framerate returns. Modifying effect object will eat up framerate without returning it except possibly when you delete the object you modified.

you don't need to ask me
anyone can judge, just give reasons why you gave people certain scores
i thought i made this cleeeeeeeaaaarrrr
-
/me grabs his rod of remorse.
I'll be judging this this evening after work.
-
Also there are two "scary" parts. I wonder if anyone has reached both of them yet?
I just did right now on my second try ;_;
Edit: SUIKAMAAAAAAAAAA! I hate you! ;_;
I thought it was over after the second scary part but then I realize it was only just lagging due to the super low FPS when suddenly a boss appears...

The results are in!

By an entire point, victory goes to Sasupoika! Congratulations!
In second place we have Thaws!
In third place, Kylesky!
Onthenet comes close behind~
What's also interesting is that fifth place is tied three-ways, held by Chau, GenericTouhouFan and Iryan!
Good game, people!

Iryan: http://pastebin.com/AjW0Rm20
My own: http://pastebin.com/zL8Hu9KJ
Naut: http://pastebin.com/mpNyVHEG
Thank you all for playing!
-
hmm, what i can see there is Thaws has a higher score than OTN. so why isn't he second-place? Same goes for Kylesky!
am i missing something now?
-
Yay mediocrity :]
Also Sercan obviously Drake loves me. Either that or he's really bad at spreadsheets.
-
I won! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UPGJ3YzkKs)
Yay. I might attend later competitions. It was great fun to participate!
-
Oh, it looks like I've exaggerated with the InYourFace-Danmaku... >_<
I never actually finished the stage, so, yeah...
I don't think you can judge a script you haven't played until the end, to be honest... :/
Only that black bar in the top of the background in the final bossfight was a little weird.
Before the actual pattern starts the player flies out of the scenery into "another dimension" (well, that's what it's supposed to look like), thus the name "Hyperspace". What am I saying, you said you aren't going to play this script again...
However:
Congratulations to Sasupoika, Thaws and Kylesky!
Hm...How many times am I going to edit this post?
And thanks to everyone for participating!
-
I forgot to send in my judgement :/ derp
Honestly, 1st place was a tie between Iryan and Chau for me. Ya'll have strange standards.
-
It seems most people seem to base their grading to a much larger degree on the pretty than I do, as well as being more generous in general. :derp:
Well, whatever, I am waiting for what the actual implications of Sercan's observation will be. :V
-
Wow I can't count. Thaws is indeed second place, other small errors, etc.
also iryan

this just in your standards are unrealistic and dumb
Oh, it looks like I've exaggerated with the InYourFace-Danmaku... >_< :ohdear:
Nope, you did just great. Not sure exactly why Mewkyuu gave you a 3, as there's only one wall, that is easily figured out after the first time, along with the surprising stuff not murdering you after a few plays. A higher mark would've landed you in fifth alone, and have possibly matched OTN.
-
Oh hey look who's last again o/
-
Hey, I did better than I thought I would actually do for not having scripted that long. Anyways congratulations to the winners.
-
Oh hey look who's last again o/
Fix the script later. I still want to play through it entirely.

Sure thi
/me glances at NaNo word count
:ohdear:

Everyone complained about death walls on my entry :V
Tip: The undodgable rings are aimed AWAY from you
Also: holy shit I didn't expect to beat so many people.
Anyway, Congrats to the winners.
I really need to work on my stage danmaku :ohdear:
Edit: all tips are here now.
Patchouli's non directonal lazorz are not a threat at all. Stream the rings with minimal movement and then watch the lazer pass harmlessly.
Sakuya's spellcard on Normal is safespotable.
Library: Kill those fairys that leave a trail, plan a path and follow it.
Basement: Deathfairy is lolstreaming on normal after first two waves. On lunatic. Stand still. Move when required. Stand Still. Rinse and repeat.
-
Congratulations to the winners. Already added your names to the FAQ thread for eternity. :V
-
Congrats to Sasupoika and Thaws! :V'
btw, Grumskiz... when reading your comments... I was a bit weirded out cause
1) the first part was working perfectly at 60fps for me (and probably most other people I guess)
2)the end when I made the debris background falling portion, I never experienced a red glitch :<
-
Congrats to Sasupoika and Thaws! :V'
Congratuations to Sasupoika and you too! :V
Yay 2nd place. I think that makes me the first person to have gotten first, second, third (and honorable mention too lulz) in RaNGE contests, looool. :V
@Mewkyuu's comments: I thought the Parsee reference would have left just as great as the impression Kogasa left. o__o... But it seems it wasn't even mentioned by anyone.
@Naut's comments: I have to admit, I may have started this with scary stuff in mind but it didn't take long for me to realise I just fail at that and just went for the usual silly/funny stuff.
Sasupoika, your script was so great, I really like the eerie feeling it gives. It's creepy :ohdear:.
Thanks for the judges' judgments and thanks to everyone else. :)
-
@Drake: Uh you couldn't shoot?
...didn't you pick up the hakkero in the second room? :V
-
also iryan
this just in your standards are unrealistic and dumb
Well, is it because I think the gameplay is more important than the non-gameplay, because I think that in theory people here could ever conceive something that is comparable to ZUN's work, or because I think looking sexy in a wet t-shirt should not matter in getting the Academy Award for Best Director?
-
No, it's because the likelihood of anyone here making something truly comparable to an actual Touhou game in three weeks is fairly low (and even if I had given more time, it would have just been put off anyways). You even said that Rika's averages about a 6, so while people did get above that, it was still pretty unrealistic. I think the main difference was that your scores went from 6 to 0 reeeally quickly.
Standards are not the same thing as judging criteria :P

Well, the problems I mentioned hapened for me when I played it 2-3 times before judging it and I tried it again 5 minutes ago and the same things happened...
The "Fade-Out" of the spider itself looks great! The problem is, that the background gets really crunchy (the pixels get a little blurry) and after playing it the last time, I found out that it mixes with my STG_Frame.png for some strange reason in some places, but only chunks of pixels get copied and others get deleted and it looks like a graphic glitch :ohdear:
(Actually, I think the crunchyness could have been your intention, but that STG_Frame mixture looks glitchy to me...sorry if I missunderstood something D; )
Well, after the spider is gone the background turns normal again, so the dark room you're flying through...
And for the framedrops in the first part of the stage: I have no idea, why they occure for me and only for me D:
As I mentioned, my laptop usually plays every srcript very well, eventhough I can't use full-screen, because Danmakufu crashes.(Also every original touhou crashes in Fullscreen...)
I tried different player scripts and I even changed some stuff in the config, but it didn't help...
However, in all my tries the framerate was at 40-45 fps...except for some sudden changes before and directly after the mid-boss, but these only lasted one second.
-
Congratulations to Sasupoika, Thaws and Kylesky! Great work fellas ;)
-
You going to be doing videos again Naut, for us people whom can't play the scripts?
-
Congrats to the winners and great job to everyone involved. I finally took a look at the scripts and all of em had some pretty neat stuff.
You going to be doing videos again Naut, for us people whom can't play the scripts?
Are you asking him to play and record like 10 stages, each one lasting up to 10 minutes each? :V

YESYESYESYESYESYESYES

Probably not this time, would take way too long and I'd never be able to fit more than two entries a video :V

Well, several entries here are quite more aesthetically pleasing than EoSD, and people have proven that they can do incredible danmaku here, even in a short amount of time.
Had the LLS contest been one-card-only, Azure's maze card would have easily been a 10/10. :derp:
Well, whatever, the entry I thought was best has won, and it is not like my entry would have done any better with those different criteria...
I forgot to send in my judgement :/ derp
