So I guess a browser game is not actually a game you play in your browser, then?

I play Cinderella Girls in my browser (with a Google Chrome extension (on my laptop (because I don't have a fancy phone))), so not necessarily. The games are made for the mobile platform and you're meant to play them on the phone's browser.

Unless this game is for regular PC browsers too? I can't read Japanese but the site looks like a phone game/app store.

It's been two years. Let it go. Megaman Legends 3 will never return. Megaman is dead.
My megaman childhood died years ago right after the cliffhanger of legends 2.

So I guess a browser game is not actually a game you play in your browser, then?

This game can be played in your PC browser and it is possible to filter and block IP connections. This is done all the time. You can circumvent this using a VPN proxy.

This game can also potentially be restricted to certain brands of phones that can only be found in a specific region. This has also been done. You can circumvent this, see Jana's post.

Unless this game is for regular PC browsers too? I can't read Japanese but the site looks like a phone game/app store.

There's connectivity between the PC and smartphones and tablets.

Social mobile games are a wildfire here in Asia. Not just in Japan, but also in China and even in Southeast Asia. It appears to be mostly an Eastern thing. This is most likely because a lot of the popular social mobile games produced here are either anime-styled CCGs, anime-styled pseudo-MMO(RPG)s, or spinoffs of existing popular franchises (recent spinoffs of SAO and im@s come to mind).

it actually started because video games are a huge stigma in japan seen as children's toys, but mobile games are "acceptable" since public transportation is a really big thing there. their mobile market is like the 360 market in the states. (this is also why console based jrpgs and stuff have 400% more weeaboo moe pandering than ever before, the only people who "should" own consoles in japan are children and otaku)

This is all common knowledge, there's a good reason why most JP console titles aim for low age ratings (even if they often get much higher ratings in the US).
Also remember that fanservice heavy titles appeal to a younger audience too (not just otaku), manga that is borderline soft porn often has the youngest readership (especially with female audience).

I wasn't referring to Japan specifically; I was referring mostly to many parts of Asia where mobile gaming is a seriously big and rapidly growing market.

Not posting to dispute your point though, salient as it is.

Oh, okay then. Fair enough.

AOS's take on this.

i ignored it the moment he called Dragon Quarter a "shit squirt" in the video description
