To take screenshots of Danmakufu, use the home key while playing your script. It saves 3 screenshots in the snapshot folder, one with the frame, one without, and a preview sized screen. Then simply convert to .PNG in Paint and upload.
To start things off, a few screenshots from a full game I'm working on with a team. First stage midboss, boss, and second stage boss, on Normal difficulty.

Looks familiar, right? It's not nearly as hard though, the bullet line up nicely by the time they reach you, and they never spawn on you.

Making 3d backgrounds is hard not as bad as talk events.
For some reason, the black edge around the trees makes weird effects. But it's not 100% black, so I don't understand why that happens...

The first boss battle is a duo battle. Expect plenty.
Making 2 different bosses skip from battle to battle is pretty annoying to do. :V

Stella's second card. She uses those laser stars in most of them, either as danmaku or for visual effect. Conveniently, it works out so that the tips don't contain hitboxes. This screenshot was taken a split second before Josette's death.
PoSR beta 5.5 currently has a Duke Nukem Forever release date :V
puremrz: I'd be interesting in seeing the graphics and code for your stage to try to help fix that glitchy fuzz, that background would look really good if you could fix that.

As I posted, I am making a extra/phantasm boss fight for Patchouli. Player will have to navigate a lot of danmaku in order to survive.

Hoo! I like the earthy theme in those Patchouli spellcards, they look really great!
And now, the background for stage 3 (I haven't started 2 yet, but I wanted to get one of the most complicated backgrounds done first)
There are some trees to the right, which aren't visible at the moment. And some doors on the left, which reveal more rooms.
All my 3b backgrounds are hand-drawn with pen, paper, and copic markers. I don't like doing computer graphics. (read: I can't draw on the computer)

Drawing 3d is pretty easy. (Compared to many other things in Danmakufu... *cough* Understanding vertices, talkevents, learning to understand AddShot, object shots combined with arrays, FREAKING STAGES *cough* ;_; )
Just scroll the stage instead of the camera. the real problem lies with the random placed objects such as trees. Other than that, it's all about resetting the background to its original position after "looping" through it once. Writing down what number does what in DrawGraphic3D, SetViewTo, SetViewFrom and SetGraphicAngle can be useful too.
Ah, uhm... Making a player character comes next... After I finish the beginnings of the main menu... =P I think I almost somewhat understand the basics of tasks now... Yield has become my least favorite word of the month though.

One of the forms of the Seven Force, a boss in the SEGA Genisis game, Gunstar Heroes. Brilliant game, with a gratuitous amount of explosions. Just made to test out object effects, but I think I might carry on with it, working on and off with my other three projects.

I remade Utsuho's 2nd spellcard, then gave it my own twist.
They're not only fired from above, but from below too. The bullets shrink on their way to the center, then grow again after reaching their minimum size.
Graphics are to be improved. Especially the happy background. :P

I think screenshot glitch is caused by a combination of undeleted graphics (oh god I never delete them) and having a blank spot in a background (even if you have fog you should put a blank background behind it). You can always printscreen if you can't fix it directly.

The rainbow colors reminds me of Kaguya's (and Meiling's) Spell Cards.

The basic story behind that character (don't ask what she is; it's a long story) is that she can send you into a dreamlike state, but she gets full control over what goes on. She also enjoys torturing people. Of course, this lends itself to many nightmarish, screwed-up situations in which reality itself seems to tear apart to kill you.
Translating this into a danmaku boss has been fun so far, of course. For this particular spell, the screen fades out then back in, revealing a circle of bullets around you, as well as other shots being fired at you from above. Pretty basic, but you're completely frozen in place. The bullets themselves move instead, essentially centering the 'camera' on your character. The pattern itself isn't hard, but it's hard to keep focus when your basic danmaku instincts have to be suppressed.
(Also, people complained my previous scripts were too bright. I overcompensated.)

DGBarca and all the others, when you are releasing a script, either provide the shotdata with it or atleast tell people to download it. Becuase your Alice script requires the shotdata to be in inside lib/newSD which is not CtC or ExpandedShotData.

The basic story behind that character (don't ask what she is; it's a long story) is that she can send you into a dreamlike state, but she gets full control over what goes on. She also enjoys torturing people. Of course, this lends itself to many nightmarish, screwed-up situations in which reality itself seems to tear apart to kill you.

Ye, trying to reload the script with "backspace" too often during crash/bug fixing. Seems like Dnh sometimes overflows and then throws this error. Generally killing the proces and restarting fixes it.

Actually this happened every time I ran a specifc part of my player script that was triggered with the user-defined key in my Ikareimu script. So every time I hit 'c', it would throw that error. It was the first time I'd seen that error too, and I've done bug fixing a lot with backspace. The actual cause of the error in that cause seemed to be when I meant to set a variable to a value... except I mixed up the variable name with a function name.
SetShieldState = ACTIVE; or something like that where SetShieldState is really supposed to be used like SetShieldState(ACTIVE);.

I've encountered this error as well...but when trying one of the Halloween Contest Entries out(won't say which one)...I though that was due to me pressing Ctrl through the somewhat long conversation, but maybe not...as this would cause Danmakufu to crash & shut down or show the badallocation error then crash & shut down...

What started as a thread in CPMC has turned into a source of ideas for spellcards, somehow.
When I read the phrase "danmaku of the grass" in the thread originally, I thought of someone picking up a handful of grass and throwing it at someone. Thus, the green bullets move straight upwards as if they're being yanked out of the ground, flinging some dirt around in the process; this dirt eventually settles to the ground again. Then the grass hangs in the air for a moment and, not surprisingly, gets thrown at the player. I made two difficulty levels, arbitrarily naming them Easy and Hard because I'm not an expert judge of difficulty. Hard is displayed here.

Just google some Photoshop tutorials, and use a picture for reference on how to put them together. All those textures are made by me, but none of them took more than 15 minutes or so.

I figure that's a lot easier to see how good you're doing at a glance, rather than DMF's extremely thin and hard-to-see default bars...

When you have failed to make the AddShots do anything, Just Creating It, it spawns a red dot where it should be fired...at least thats what happened to me...it can also happen when you put a negitave number in the "frames after creation" slot.

Making fancy spellcards is hard (to people that can't use CreateShotA for the life of them, like me).
That's why I love mimicking CAVE, because you don't have to be too fancy (and you only need 2 colors :V). So I'm making Hibachi patterns for whatever reason. Maybe I'll put them together in a boss script once I can be bothered to learn how to do that and make the boss image actually appear animated.

What I mean is... I tried using effects on @BackGround in a stage file to display all the info (Yes, I'm making a new sidebar.). Then, when my boss declares a spell during the boss fight, all the info, frame, the enemy marker (Yes, I did that too, because the frame covered Danmakufu's original one.), etc.

Previous version of the second non-spell. Current version doesn't use glowing bullets but suppo-errr... Reisen-bullets and the amulets are red and white instead of only red. It also is the easiest part of the script:

If you want this Reimu boss, just ask and I'll give you the link. I highly advise you don't play it as is because it's not balanced at all, and I probably won't attempt working on this anymore. If just want to look at the code for the bullets and border thing, take out your rubik's solving guide, because I almost never comment my code.

Works like the event functions in danmakufu (may not be worth making/downloading cause danmakufu already has a "better" one... but think about all the possible customization with this in the future XD)
Functions:
-Different colored text
-Changeable text background (the one I used was made by me... suckily)
-Text supports all letters (both upper and lower case), numbers, period, space, comma, ! and ? (other characters will just be skipped... may add the other symbols next time)
Problems:
-Has to be started in a dummy enemy script (currently ends with VanishEnemy; will fix this when I have the time)
-Positioning of the portraits and stuff are currently a bit off (don't know where exactly to place them :V)
Will probably add support for team dialogues (like IN) next time... and other stuff that I think of...

After about 3 hours of insomnia I started cranking out Danmakufu stuff, and got a card and background for my sometime soon Marisa boss. Stars, woo. (http://i45.tinypic.com/k99gns.png) You can't tell from the picture, but the (placeholder) seal is rotating and also getting smaller then switching to bigger. Marisa's cutin being there is a reference to how Extra Bosses often appear in the own cutins, which show up best during survivals. The cutin will only appear during the survival card.
Not that impressive but good for me :3.

Sorry to disapoint you, but they appear the whole time in the background. Most of the time people just don?t notice because they are watching the boss and his her attacks.

It seems people keep forgetting the general forum rules about posting images. I need to repeat this as a boring and "serious" moderator here again.

I blame extensive IRC scripting for that. Also based on somewhat C but requires termination of parentheses. Then again it requires ((statement) || (statement)). So I got trapped between Danmakufu and mIRC scripting =V

I finished reworking the stage portions up to Stage 2, but I still want to redo some of Stella's stuff.
Stage 3 and 5 don't need much work I think, but Stage 4 is pretty much gonna be redone from scratch.
I've been getting more serious lately so I think about a month and a half will be enough to finish.

Haha, it's actually much easier than ANOTHER difficulty or so forth. This boss is actually ridiculously easy, and any seasoned danmaku player would be able to pick out the trick to it immediately. It's hard to tell from the image, but if you watched a replay you'd instantly get it. ;)

You forgot drawing skills, unless you are willing to steal graphics or know where you can take them with permission.

For some effects, not really. Just Google "(something) Photoshop tutorial" and follow the steps. Then experiment a bit until you get something cool, then just go from there (layer a bunch on top of each other with random angles/speeds/etc). It does take creativity, but really, it's pretty easy when you get used to it.

Well I "stole" from ZUN then technically as I am using his song. And stole from Uwabami breakers because of Afro. But aside that I generally modify pictures from google. You'd be surprised how nicely things can turn out by modifying google stock pictures into usable stuff (hence I mentioned creativity). How do you think I managed to create my roller-skate familiars for my afro boss?
Actually I send him an e-mail asking for permission, but I never got a reply back.

Yeah, no ADD bullets in this stage, but I guess that stage 5-6 will have plenty of them.
Also, does it lag on your computer too ? It doesn't drop to less that the usual fps on mine.

Touhou Phantasmal Parade's 2nd stage boss.

1. Shot delay warning on edges of screen.
2. Lasers appear, each makes some slow moving bullets at their tip.
3. Blue lasers fall from the top of the screen in a sine-wavish pattern, along with some quickly disappearing blue crystals (to stop people from hanging out above Suika).

Anyway this looks really good, is every boss going to have a segment as long as this? The new versions of cards look prettier in addition to having their difficulty tuned up. Although, the new version of Deep Vortex looks a little unreasonable...

Correct, the theory of the Photoelectric Effect is that higher frequency light (Such as purple) would create an electric current when struck on a plate, whereas red light wouldn't. But red lasers doing absolutely nothing would be pretty damn boring so they just spawn slow moving bullets instead, whereas purple ones are quick and energetic.

Ah that stage is finally extended huh. The back ground flying scene is done hot. The music is also very catchy. Though I wasn't charmed by sudden Red Alert 1 track playing after the space invaders "boss". Felt extremely out of place.

Just 3 stages. I don't work very fast, but I make everything as high-quality as I can, and even the demo should have a lot of replay value. The background even has slight changes and random events every time you play it.

The last spell card is probably too hard for stage 1, and a few attacks before it, some bullets spawn from the bottom without any real warning, which could also lead to a cheap death.
But everything besides those? Absolutely amazing, and one of the best things I have ever seen. Keep up the good work!

-Bullets that appear from the bottom? Do you mean the fireballs? Actually those are spawned by the big red bullets, so if you pay attention to their paths, it shouldn't be a problem. And they're always aimed at you too, making them even more predictable.

Very pretty.
As a spellcard, it's basic but still fun. The graphics are thematically fitting. Only complaint would be that it lasts comparatively long. I tend to make my cards on the long side, too.

Some criticism:
-Whirlwind starts right off and may kill you while the cutin is still on top of you. Not good.
-Your fire bullets seem to have rough edges.
-Your survival is about three times as long as it should be.
Can't remember any more right now.
Edit: Wait, there is a stage? I just played the boss. :derp:

1) You use like 10 times as many bullets as you need to use to make the patterns functional (aimed arrows/kunai, FIRE SPIN)
2) Streaming section is way too long
3) Random shit out of nowhere
I'm going to give this one more shot before I manually remove the Expert;, I just barely reached Moltres last time.
EDIT:
4) Fire spin aimed upwards the entire spell wtf is this shit (this is why I had to remove Expert;)
5) Pretty much the only ho-oh spells that are remotely possible are the random clusterfucks, which is a very bad sign
6) Gust is probably the only well-designed spell you have, but it still lasts way too long
Long story short, put effort into actually balancing the difficulty. If I wanted to die every 5 seconds I would just play Suikama's brofist script.

I always resort to rand() whenever I can't think of any patterns. The results are stuff that look and play like carp. What do the experts normally do to make fun (and still pretty-looking) spells ?

In a generic circular pattern case... You create a structured pattern that is entirely turned at a random/variable angle; in execution there should be little randomness, but the end dodging result should still have a randomness factor so it isn't purely micromemmed, yet still won't confuse the player or require completely different movements each time. Aiming entire patterns or just some bullets at the player works too.

Circle health bars are easy to make; it's just really intensive. Take line, make effect object with a bajillion vertices (24 (enjoy your square), 48, 96, bleh) to make a circle, get rid of vertices when unneeded, etc. Drawing it would just suck.

Not the best danmaku design ever (some of the attacks are spammy, some require "figuring out" or you'll die repeatedly, and there's waaay too much pure streaming), but it's a really nice script overall, and some of the spell cards are awesome.

I've created a little windows application that generates a danmakufu task that makes music-based scripts creation really easy. You just start the music in media player, select my application, start tapping buttons while the music plays. After you're done you press the L key, and it exports something like this, but much longer (depending on the length of the music):

I like the life-bar you used and the HUD layout. Though you might want to check your spawning of the shou lasers. They look strange and there is a reason why they are gray/white/alpha. So you can colour them.
Also the more you draw on your HUD, the more it will distract. During spell cards time there is quite some text drawn.

The dark border is there because I gave the shot sheet a black background. A transparent bg gives them this faint white outline that looked even worse so ... I can't do anything about that right now :<. Oh, and they are already animated.

I haven't been here for a year due to preparation of public exam but my prev. project (ExPatchouli, the thread is probably deleted) was extended to Easy/Normal/Hard/Lunatic levels. Easy/Normal long boss fights can be immediately launched.
Things here had been getting better and better --> it seems like my things have been quite primitive.

First off: the presentation is great. It all looks somewhat professional, and it's really pretty. The technical aspect is great, too - the menus work well, player selection is good, and the programming itself seems very well-done.
However, the actual danmaku design needs a LOT of work. The stage is just streaming with a single instance of dodging unfairly fast rings, and that's it. Play some actual Touhou stages, note what makes them interesting and fun, and make your own. There was a post about stage design somewhere (the PoSR thread maybe?), so ask around for that if you're interested.
In addition, Aya wasn't that interesting of a boss fight (although, like I said, the presentation and graphics are great). All her attacks suffered the same problems - it's either basic dodging with no uniqueness (as in her first nonspell) or gimmicky ones that will kill everyone that plays them unless they know what's coming, like the fast tengu bullets from the side. Her last attack, where the challenge is outsmarting the camera, is pretty much impossible until you've died once or twice to know what's going on. However, though gimmicky, those two attacks looked pretty fun and well-designed, just not suited for a full game. Imagine playing a 30-minute game, then failing on the last boss because you didn't memorize the pattern beforehand! Remember, your players don't know how any given attack works until they see it first.
As a suggestion, I think you would be better off making a StB/DS-style "spell card compilation" rather than a full sequential game, with everything just selected from a menu like in spell practice. Gimmicky attacks (which seem to be your specialty) are much more well-suited for that, since dying has no penalty at all and restarting is quick. The player can take as long as they want to figure out a card and they're not penalized for it since restarting only takes a few seconds, therefore attacks like Aya's spell cards in that video become much more fair and fun! If you released a series of spell cards like that, I'd certainly play it, but I'd be a lot more reluctant if it was a full 6-stage game and I had to go through boring stages and memorize things as I go.
Summary: stage needs work; nonspells are generic; spell cards are fun but not well-suited for a continuous game; make a series of single spell cards instead.

Although this isn't the place to be arguing which games have better stage design, I just meant it in a general sense anyway. Play games (Touhou was the first that came to mind for obvious reasons), see why the stages are interesting or fun, then make your own stage that follows the same guidelines but has your own little twist.

Fun danmaku design is all subjective, and it's hard to quantify. If it were possible to say "do these things to make a fun game," then game design would be way too easy, anyway. Again, just think about your favorite danmaku in Touhou or other games and figure out why you find them fun. Then make your own based on those principles, but with your own personal twist and style.
Also, visuals aren't directly related to fun gameplay, though they help the experience as a whole. Your visuals are already really good anyway though, so don't worry too much about it.

I think I remember that you had to name the script folder ScarletWeatherRhapsody or something and that it should lead straight to the script's main folders.

Fun fact: It's near impossible to make a fun stage if you only have one type of enemy onscreen at any one time. Combining what seem like basic patterns can make something surprisingly complex. You should make use of a variety of enemy types:
-Streaming foes or fairies, who come in swarms and primarily use movement to complicate their simple patterns.
-Basic fairies who shoot a single wave of a pattern. They might appear 2 or 3 at a time.
-Big fairies who stay onscreen for an extended period of time while shooting.
A good stage will force you to move around in ways that boss fights don't, and to think about which enemies you should shoot first. You don't have to imitate ZUN or anyone else's style, but if you want to make something "fun", variety can't hurt.

I'm still here, I just sometimes forget to frequent certain forums for large periods of time (why, nobody knows). On the topic of combining things like that, I made a Satori extra a while ago (horrifically incomplete sorta) and made the final spell a combination of every other final spell; but not at once :( . It goes backwards through them as life decreases, starting at Nue's and ending with the closest thing I could come up with for Evil Eye. I better post a screenshot of something not of that topic.

I just felt like mentioning it but you can do 3D in game maker, even just for backgrounds and they can actually rival Danmakufu's 3D capabilities but from experience its not worth it, your frame-rate ends up dropping below 50 constantly because Game Maker has a hog of a 3D engine and that paired with the danmaku only makes it worst, 2D backgrounds are preferable for the sake of good gameplay over graphics, especialy in Game Maker's case. ^^

I made sure not to use ADD bullets on light backgrounds. This stage gradually darkens, so they'll become easier to see after a while. And these bullets only fall down with a speed of 3 or lower, so they're not really that hard to dodge anyway.

I haven't been working on any custom graphics to use so I just pilfered some stuff to make it more 'complete' in appearance. I'm pretty happy with the danmaku itself though. I was aiming for something in between Normal/Hard mode and, the opening attack excepted (way heavy, that one ::)), I think I struck a chord around there somewhere. :/

I didn't bother to make my own thread, since there probably be a waste of space if I wouldn't update it often.
So I'll put it here instead, and make the thread when I'm almost finished with the project. This is a general screenshot thread, not just Danmakufu so I guess it's fitting.
Anyway, I've been working on that game engine I promised. Danmakufu is simply too limiting, and I wanted the aame performance as the Touhou Games. So I'm making my own engine.

Anyway, I'll introduce a revolutionary style to this game. It'll be very similar in format and familiarity with the controls.
I'll also introduce many features that Danmakufu didn't because of its limits with what you can do with it. In this one, you'll be able to use ALL of directX features.
Particularly instancing. Does anyone else hate how you can't put more than 500 bullets in the game without the frames going down? I'm bumping that limit to 120,000. (or more, if you have a good graphics card, that limit can go up to 3,300,000 at 40fps.
So each type of bullet can be just one object drawn 30 times over in at different places in a single frame , instead of 30 seperate objects, each with their own vertex buffers and formats to change within each frame (the former KILLS the processing).
Also, other cool features. Like being able to customize the bosses their own warp-like aura, like in Subterranean Animism.

UPDATE:
Engine's almost finished. I've managed to implement many things that the guy who made Danmakufu didn't do. Like clearness of the bullets (especially the round ones with the outer layer and sakuya's knives. You can actually see the transparency they show now.)
And making the actual loading-of bullets by hand much faster, you can make a function to do it for you.
Unfortunately, I don't have any means to make it run by script like danmakufu does (yet). So any scripting in it will have to be done in C or C++. I've still managed to implement danmakufu's language into it (mostly), but danmakufu uses a c-like language already. So being able to use structures and classes would be a benifit, eh?
This one has the original-game type quality. I just need a way to get the yield function to work right, and it's kind of tricky. It's similar to using return in functions. What differentiates yielding from function returns is that at a later point we can reenter the thread and carry on where we left off. When you exit a function scope using return the scope is destroyed and we cannot reenter it, e.g. I guess the guy made Danmakufu using Lua.
Anyway, you can get a trial run for it here (http://www.mediafire.com/?rr0rt28tkeqcqm6). I'll throw out the source code for it to you guys when I'm done. Maybe some of you can improve it?

Just downloaded it to check it out. Not a bad demo.
A couple points:
- Don't start citing performance numbers before you have a lot more going in your engine. Drawing stuff is pretty cheap (although, yes, drawing tons of things efficiently can be nice), but things like collision detection can really wear down your performance quickly.
(This is why I'm planning some major optimizations to the collision detection in MnD) - How do you plan to integrate scripts with your engine? Based on what your post says, either I'm missing something or you're expecting the user to recompile the program with their scripts. It's a feasible solution, but it may prove too cumbersome for some scripters.
Keep in mind I'm not trying to discourage you; I'm just giving you some pointers to think about and (hopefully) help you.

The background was a pain to do with Danmakufu screwing with partial transparency (it renders it all black for some reason)
And I'm preeeeeeety proud of that pattern you see there, it does a such epic pseudo 3D effect...to bad it scatters around.

I want a bit of a critique on the scoring system.
Small enemies are 1000 points. Large enemies are 8000 points.
Small enemies drop 2 squares, large ones drop 8.
Squares increment the bonus counter by 1.
They also give you bonus counter * 10 points.
If you press X, then the bonus is reset and you are in a scoring mode.
The time is found by bonus counter * 3 and ticks down 60 points/s.
Since this taps out at 200 bonus points, you can accrue 10 seconds of bonus time.
During those ten seconds, enemy point value is changed to 1000 * bonus time / 10.
Square point value becomes a flat 2,000.
The large enemies can be worth as much as 60,000 points in this mode, it seems.

So, I'm just about done porting my MarisaA player from 0.12m to ph3. Literally everything in it was drawn by hand using Paint.NET, and the majority of it didn't make use of blending OR anti-aliasing- just straight-up drawing and hoping for the best. I figured it'd be better that way, and keep things in my style.
Yes, this includes the Marisa, which I JUST finished drawing. ...Well, sorta. I still need to draw frames for moving left and right, but then it'll be done! Then I'll just need to make the options MOVE instead of teleport. Probably need to make them closer to Marisa, too... Oh well! When I'm done, I'll release the player for all to use.
(...I just noticed a small perspective issue on her hat. I just fixed that!)

"durr" is not very descriptive. Do you want feedback on the system? The danmaku? The graphics? It also doesn't persuade anyone into clicking on the link very well.
Anyway, for the system stuff, everything is great! The graphics are good and everything works fine (except graze, which is probably because you removed the hitbox for the video for some reason). For the danmaku, it's really good (if a bit easy), except for Energy Link, which, uh... really sucked, to be honest. It's a memorization-based card that is no threat whatsoever if you know the path, and pretty much instant-kill if you don't, plus it lasts a full minute and a half. I love the lightning effect, though! The music was also nice, though not very shmuppy.

Those who have seen the first three stages should be pleased to know that the first three stages haven't been edited yet.

Anyway, for the system stuff, everything is great! The graphics are good and everything works fine (except graze, which is probably because you removed the hitbox for the video for some reason). For the danmaku, it's really good (if a bit easy), except for Energy Link, which, uh... really sucked, to be honest. It's a memorization-based card that is no threat whatsoever if you know the path, and pretty much instant-kill if you don't, plus it lasts a full minute and a half. I love the lightning effect, though! The music was also nice, though not very shmuppy.
Thanks for the feedback. Yes, graze doesn't work because i the removed player hitbox. Energy Link isn't good, i know that. You're not the first one who said that. I already think how to remake it.

Yeah, there are four difficulties.
Waves only appears on Easy Mode, and is replaced with Rush on Normal.
And then they become utter b.s. on Hard and Lunatic mode. I'll put up a video in a few to show what I mean.

Well, I guess it could be fixed by placing a background underneath it. But I think you should reduce saturation/boost brightness on -all- of your bullet sprites too.
The rainbow effect looks really neat, by the way.

Backgrounds are a hotly contested subject at Lunacy Indeterminate.
"Take them out, it's distracting"
"Put them in, it looks dull"
and the like.
I'm planning on having them, but low-key, you know.
What doesn't help is that the Large Purple Head battle is in a large blue spinning wormhole

Put them in but include an option to turn them off if the player finds it distracting. Or even better, have a brightness slider for the background, so you could also leave them on but have them darker so it's easier to see.

There are difficulty issues I'm still working out, mind. Impossible situations and whatnot.

Looks really fun! It looks very professional, too. Some of the attacks come really suddenly and without warning though, like the spiky placeholder thing, and all the green enemies after it which you only actually dodged once. Also, if you say "ugh, survival attack" about your own game, you should probably take it out! (Although the card right after that, with the vibrating bullets and big yellow things, was amazing.)
Your player ships are all really cool too. Keep going with this!

I'm ughing the survival card because it's the second boss, can't easily be farmed for graze like the Easy and Normal variants, and lasts for 40 seconds.
So yeah. I'm still changing things around. :V
Those green enemies that spout bullets everywhere are getting repatterned. :)
As for the shaky large yellow bullet attack, thank you. And that was the first time I'd capped it, too.
Every other attempt at it ended with me dying at around 500 HP left.
The card starts with about 36,000 or so :D
The first ships' attacks are more practical, while the second's is cooler.
So hard to choose for me! :<
I am working on it, too! It'll be done....... Eventually!
Just let me fit backgrounds here and there (I'm touching them up...) and finish the fourth boss.

The general theme this time is "Lots of enemies, they move fast, exercise your visual reflexes, and SHOOT EVERYTHING BEFORE THEY KILL YOU A LOT."
Due to the influx of enemies, I've found it's possible to score over 20,000,000 points in the first fifteen seconds.
You can't get 80,000,000 until you beat Stage 4 :V

It's more true than you might think :V
Those white bullets are long strands of fixed-width bullet lines- think 'lasers, with holes in the middle of them-' that spin around.
It's actually very difficult! ;_;
The main self-challenge here is 'making a boss that does not move at all fun.'
My solution?
Make the player move a lot.

Usually the speed is more affected than the density, but even then ranking systems don't generally make patterns that wide of a range in difficulty. Would like to see some in-between shots and maybe data on how fast the bullets go.

So, um. Think of Utsuho's Fixed Star, except the boss doesn't shoot bullets, and the stars move about three times faster.
The stars themselves used to shoot bullets except it was too hard getting out of the way of the stars and dodging small bullets at the same time.
Standard and Easy have two spokes, seen above.
Rage and Lunacy have three.
On Easy, at least, you have the option of moving vertically and changing which 'ring' you're in, or circling the boss, since the stars don't move fast enough to catch up with you.
They do on Standard.
And on Rage and Lunacy it's almost downright impossible, which is something I need to fix -_-

While shooting standard bullets in a spiral pattern, the boss spawns a lot of large bullets, that will circle around before traveling outward.
The bullets have ~1,200 HP (that's about 5s of shooting) and when dead will spawn a bunch of blue bullets that will stall a bit, and then travel in different directions.
Your cue to stop shooting them is the fact that they'll start flashing blue.
The only problem is, if you don't, then you can't really ever damage the Guardian. So whoops.

(About the video) One thing I saw a lot in your patterns (mostly in the 2nd one) was unnecessary pausing in the bullets. It barely affects the bullet pattern in any way and only makes the waiting longer. Please try to avoid it.

I like the Guse Flash-like attack (can't read the name of the attack though)... by the looks of it, it seems that the boss moves a little while using the spell?

The Guse Flash knockoff is called Maximum Blast on all difficulties.
This is so because it takes one bullet a little under two seconds to travel the whole screen downwards.
That doesn't change that it's being utilized by a midboss.
And no, actually. It doesn't move during any of it's spells, which is to compensate for it's erratic movement in earlier confrontations.
You see, it's the stage 2 midboss, stage 5 first midboss, and stage 6 first midboss. I'd like to give Orin a run for her money in terms of persistence.
(miscellaneous crap below, technically spoilers)
Bosses will reappear in game until they all have used 7 attacks.
The Stage 1 boss has 4 attacks, and comes back in Stage 6 with three.
The one pictured above has 2 in stage 2, 2 in stage 5, and 3 in stage 6.
Exceptions are the final boss and the Extra Bosses
who have 12 and 1 respectively.
Stage 6 so far has been entirely without planning whatsoever, so we'll see how it goes. It adds "spontaneity!" :D

The player is actually by Mr. Blue (http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,5219.msg472443.html#msg472443) but it's not TD. For everything else, a few things still need some more editing, but yes, you can borrow them. In my script-thread, the mima boss includes everything. (Look in the stage script for the code.)

Pokemon you say? Well it just so happens that I made a Pokemon (sort of) script, too. I made it a while ago but since I never posted screenshots of it before, I might as well post them here. It's almost more based on Super Smash Bros Brawl than Pokemon though.

Btw, nice idea with "Zero" stage tutorial ;) Though it must teach not only the basics of shmup but mostly the game-speceific mechanics like meaning of graze, using overdrive'n'shit. But anyway it's nice and usefull. I think i'll make something like this in my game, cause my second character has weird (if not crazy) shottype which could be hard to control without practice.

I wish I could stop, but it would probably look like complete crap if I did. I think I already mentioned that I can't draw. So sorry about that, but I put somewhat big emphasis on looks when I play a game and that goes the same for making one.
That said, thanks for the compliment and yes I do intend on finishing it, but it's going to be my longest project yet. I don't like starting anything that I won't finish so I promise that I'll finish it eventually. I've got a lot of plans for the rest of the stages, including all of the bosses (at least the identities) already figured out. I've also come up with a semi-unique mechanic to gaining lives that I haven't implemented just yet, but will by the time stage 2 is finished. You probably won't see anything from stage 2 until later in December though since I've got the end of my term coming up.

Small red bullets are just recolored blue ones. So their hitboxes might be bigger than it looks.

It was supposed to be unlocked alongside the Extra Stage in this game, but no one seemed to be able to clear Stage 3 really, let alone Stage 6.
The first shottype has a bunch of orbitals that zip around until you focus.
It's like the frost throwers from MoF, except with shotgun damage and more chaos.
The shotgun damage is so extreme, that the dps on this ranges from 800 at it's weakest to 4,000 at it's strongest.
(For reference, the first boss first attack = 36,000 HP and every other shottype scores in at about 2,600 dps)
The bomb is a sort of non-homing Fantasy Heaven.
The balls circle around, and deal large collision damage and explode. The explosions do a little splash damage.
If fired in the middle of the screen, they will cover all of the play field, but if fired at the bottom, only half.

It's complicated. I like working on LS1, while I hate working on LS1.
There are a lot of things left to be implemented that I could only reasonably do given several hours of work at a time, whereas developing bullet patterns only takes several minutes- and I only get around an hour and a half per day to work on them.
It'll get to 1.0 eventually, but it just seems that whenever it does, LS2 will be halfway done :V
Until then, version 0.8 contains six stages and stage practice.
I wouldn't call that awfully bad?

There's a large difference between it being bad, and you just not wanting to become accustomed to the game and script engine (that incidentally is much more aligned with today's common procedures and structures to begin with). The latter is fine and nobody should really be on your case for it, the former you're going to have to back yourself up.

I decided the old thread I was posting these in wasn't gonna be in use for much longer mainly because the project officially has a name now, there has been a lot of progress since the last time I did a screenshot run, the game has gone trough drastic changes since then, I'd be willing to say that once I finish some of the graphical resources, the game will be ready for a 3-stage demo!

The engine is pretty much done, score, yinyang balls, levels, danmaku generating. Especially the danmaku part since I pretty much based it off of danmakufu functions.
But I'm currently addicted to something else at the moment, and my tunnel vision attention span won't permit me to split my time. Sorry guys, this is on hold for awhile.
