Greeting new recruits,

Welcome to Kantai Collection. For those who don't know know what this game is about, Kantai Collection is a Japanese browser game that has sweeped over Japan and has become a massive hit in over the last year and has in turn gained a large fan base in that time frame.

As of today nearly 3 millions plus users have joined the game and the game has spawned a large doujin commuinty that consists of manga, music figurines and so forth.

There are also several official manga, light novels, an anime, an upcoming arcade, along with plenty of merchandise to boot!


What is the game about?


You play as an admiral and your are assigned to take care of ship girls known as ?kanmusus?. Theses kanmusus are under your command and you are left with the task of taking these girls out to the battle field and train them. They are tasked with taking about a mysterious unknown enemy known as the Abyssal Fleet and mysterious demonic alien like race of ships that have appeared out of no where.

It should be note that the ship girls are also based after ships from the WWII era.

So how do I get into this game?

The first thing you are going to do, is get access to the game which while the requirements might seems surprising, it turns out the whole doesn't take much time at all to do!

First you'll need to get a VPN or set up a region cookie because in order to access the game you'll need a Japanese IP address. Following that you'll need to get an account on DMM, (http://www.dmm.com/) and then go partake in a lottery. It's highly recommended you follow the link on the Wiki for advice on how to prepare for the lottery and what you need to do to access the game.

Most of the game has you managing your ship girls, their equipment, building them, crafting their equipment, modernizing them, and repairing them.

And once you're all set you can send them out to battle against the abyss, against other players fleets, and go on expeditions to collect resources.

What's currently going on?

Spring 2016 Event: Land Based Air Squadrons! Take Flight!

As of May 3rd, the Spring 2016 Event has commenced and if the largest , longest, and hardest event to date. Expect to be mastering the useage of your ship girls as well as mastering how to use your planes for your land bases. As everything will be important for the upcoming battle ahead! Best to all the admirals out there while the event continue till May 31st!

A few (read: many) questions as a newbie.

How do I access the event?

How can I farm resources effectively (w/o wasting them all on repair and resupply?)

What good do exercises do (outside of morale and quests)? I've literally been getting single digits of EXP from exercises.

How do I lessen the appearance of Error Cat?

What resource combinations result in which ships and equipment?

How do I increase my HQ level?

A few (read: many) answers

On the selection screen for missions against abyssals, the bottom has icons where you can change between world maps 1-6; there will be a red island icon on the far right which brings you to the event maps.

Expeditions will be your main source of income of resources and consumables, very few missions allow efficient resource farming and those require specific ships that you probably don't have. Focus on getting 3rd fleet ASAP and 4th if you're lucky with drop/craft

Exercises give XP based on not only whether you win or not but also on what your opponent's flagship and second ship levels are. Take every opportunity to face against fleets with high-level flagships.

Have a stable connection, don't use bots or similar tech, and don't constantly refresh the page.

There are a lot of different recipes for equipment but none of them are guaranteed, read the wiki

Level increases naturally as you play the game. Some missions and quests rewards more HQ than others.

I may be wrong since I don't use it myself, but I think it might be a built-in function for KanColle Viewer. Like I said though, I don't use it, so it'll have to be confirmed by those that do. I was actually wondering that myself as it seems like it's a newer function.

It's not the Yuubari branch of KCV. I think it's the KanColle Command Center plugin for Google Chrome.

This would have be scary to watch if it weren't for battle info. For context, boss got knocked to 15 hp in the opening air strikes and then 13 hp by night battle. Choukai finished the boss off with 35 damage total (2+33 double attack).

I lost my first ship today - Shirayuki.

I was running a sortie on zone 1-4 while none of my fleet members were above level ten -- it's a small miracle I didn't lose Nagatsuki as well, to be honest, as she had lost her sinking protection as well.

I suppose there's nothing to do but replace the missing spot and try to level up and modernize my ships some more to avoid a repeat of that little fiasco... I've got a long way to go before I can reach the level of you folks, I suppose.

Umm...not sinking is done by making sure you retreat if any of your ships has red damage. Orange and yellow are fine, but retreat on red. Most of us never take the risk except in truly unusual cases.

Total resources used...too lazy to tally, but I started with 300k on everything and 2400 buckets. E2 was way too expensive.

E-7 Easy boss node cleared on my second try, smooth as butter. Used a CV combined fleet, only Shigure was orange by the time I hit the boss node. Combined with all 3 airbases, aerial boss support, and shelling from the fleet, all that was left for yasen was 3 red enemies, which were then easily mopped up by my second fleet.

And that's it! Event cleared on Easy for the admiral-on-a-budget.

From 80 buckets down to 41 buckets, and 25K all resources to 5K/15K/21K/11K. I'm really thankful the event was so long, or I don't think I could have managed.

With the leftover resources, I'll just do a little duck hunting for Teruzuki. Still, I'm happy to just get Iowa.

Ugh, I must not have noticed or I might have clicked the wrong button... I actually can't remember if I was able to do so and didn't.

Anyway, I've noticed that when one tries to visit the KanColle site using a foreign IP/connection, there's now a link to a DMM site with localized games just below the "This is not available in your region" notification. The website's called Nutaku.com or something like that.

They don't have KanColle on the site yet, but here's hoping...

Just an FYI about that, Nutaku seems to cater mainly to the NSFW side of DMM's games. If I remember correctly, they've only got two SFW games at the moment.

I love that you can name your land squadrons.

I'm working with Fatboy and Merlin. Furby will be my third one. All are cats I've had.
I would have gone with the traditional Tender Tortoise, Rampant Beaver, and Violated Snorlax but alas, character restrictions.

I'm down to 1700 ammo and I'm partway through E-5. From what I've heard, the last few events are much easier thanks to the land-based air squadrons so I'm pinning my hopes there.
As for what I'll do afterwards, I'm torn. I want to save up for LSC and get Taihou, but I also need to finish 4-4, potentially level Iowa and a few destroyers, do the submarine expedition for Z1 then construct Z3 & Bismarck, construct Hiryuu & Mutsu, and probably other things that now slip my mind.

Got lucky with E-7 Easy mode last dance and did it in one shot with a S rank although the drop was a Kumano:

And the funny thing is my Fusou Kai Ni is one of my AP carriers and had her JUST gotten her Kai Ni 3 days ago which would be on Friday.... thankfully my Air Base and Support and torp attackers managed to kill most of the mooks and left CVHime and BBHime alive too bad they got Yasen'd by my escorts because my Fusou felled their leader.

Event cleared.

E-1-4 on Hard, E-5-7 on Normal.

Used STF with Akitsushima and Hayasui for E-7.

There were relatively few repairs this event. So although the overall fuel, ammo, and bauxite costs were high, the steel and bucket costs were low.

This event in total cost me over 100k fuel, 69k ammo, 74k steel, 50k bauxite and 434 buckets. I also used all of Maritime Resupply on E-7. My last run with Hayasui was actually the run right before the winning run.

Also ended up using most of my rations and about 6 or 7 reinforcement expansions.

As a final note, for the final kill, I went back to an old tactic. Playing this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnaC0RgEPCw) on the boss. Worked like a charm.

I feel so good right now.

I went with Razgriz (E7 Type96/1 Bombers+2 Reppus), Galm (E7 Type96/1 Bombers+2 Reppus), and Garuda (E7 - Intercepter + 3 fighters) for my land based squadrons.

Anything really worth farming for in this event if I don't care about trophy DDs? I might consider going for Unryuu but I have enough CVs already.

I've been caught up with the event all the way to the very end. It was a rather intense journey overall and I will talk about E-6 and E-7 in a bit but for now I'm going to cover what this update was about:

1. End of the Spring 2016 Event
The Spring 2016 Event is has come to an end.

2. Rainy Season Voice Lines Implemented
Over 100+ kanmusus lines now contain Rainy Season lines which will include those from last year along with new ones.

3. New Missions
There will be 3 new missions added in with this update that will include the following:

Reorganize and reform the new "torpedo Squadron"!
New Reformed "Torpedo Squadron", to the Nansei Islands defense line!
Strengthen the safety of naval district inshore routes!

4. Bar Counterpart feature additions

Bar countertop will now include special content when using Pola,Iowa,Harukaze, and Kamiakaze as your secretary.

5. Rainy Season Furniture
Rainy Season Furniture has been implemented in the furniture shop which include:

            Satsuki's Wallpaper
            Satsuki's Desk
            Satsuki's Window
            Ayu season wallpaper
            The rainy season of the floor
            Window with hydrangea and Teruteru
            Fresh green flooring
            Battleship tile floor
            Naval Base Air Force desk
            Rainy season green curtain window
            Rainy season wisteria wallpaper
            Westeria and Water Surface Floor - dynamic discount

6. Apology Gift Items

Due to what happen over the event players who managed to get up to E-5 - E-7 will be getting a Type 22 Land Attack A as a gift for the Land Base Air Squadron Bug before the fix.

Some furniture will be available for free during this time for players who played the event

7. End of "Uzuki" period
Uzuki will no longer drop outside of her usual drop locations, however Akashi will still be available for some time

8. Bugfixes

Kamikaze Kai's resupply banner has been fixed, and status page of home bases BGM music has been fixed

9. Rainy Season CG art
Yuudachi Kai Ni, Hayashimo, Kiyoshimo, Akebono and Mizuho have gotten new Rainy Season Mode CG art.

10. Accuracy Improvement to Kongou-Class

Kongou Class Battleships will now have additional accuracy bonuses when armed 35.6cm Double Gun Mounts and 35.6 Triple Gun Mounts

11. Land Based Aircraft Locking
Land Based Aircrafts are now lockable.

12. UI improvements
The right corner of the equipment list there will be a new button, which shows the equipment currently equipped by other ships. clicking again will return to the equipment list. Just use the equipment currently loaded on other kanmusu to load the kanmusu in question clicking on stock equipment button will just return to the usual equipment list.

How much time do you guys usually spend a day on KanColle?

Ah, also, I regret to say I failed E-7 last dance. I did 18 runs in total before I ran flat out of bauxite an hour before the event ended.

Pretty much this. I'll probably be spending more than an hour on it for a bit though as I take on 1-5, 1-6, 2-5, and some of the quests I've got though.

In general, I play for 4-6 hours on a daily basis depending on what I'm trying to achive: Dailies, Weeklies, ect.
 I usually try to tackle all the quest related stuff I can over the week and month so I will have more free time in the long run.
Though I do manage Expeditions in between brakes.

Also just for everyone to know, Android Verision of Kancolle is expect to go Live on June 10th. Those that got in will be shown an explanation on what you need to do on a later date thought the following information on what system requirements have been posted:

OS: smartphones or Android 4.4 above
CPU: 1 GHz or faster
memory: 1 GB
*This is the requirements for the beta test version
*Following requirements may change upon final version

More information will be posted on Kancolle's main page site on DMM, and on the Annoucment forum page on DMM later on...

I'm starting to really get into KanColle. I'll probably end up spending more than 2 hours a day on it over the Summer.

Learned a lot of mechanics I plain did not know or was unfamiliar with this Event and since. Combined fleets, AACI, support expeditions, recovering resources, repairing ships resets morale, and the value of medals, destroyers, CVL, equipment.
Really, I did not know Hatsuzuki was so good for AACI or that she had the best destroyer armaments in the game. Even though I liked her design, I ignored her because she didn't have a Kai Ni.

So many mistakes, so very many mistakes: this most recent and dramatic failure has spurred me to believe I underestimated the game.
So many things I want to do: clear events on Hard, amass Kai Ni ships, craft more Reppuu and Shinden Kai, do Extra Operations for more medals, LSC for Taihou, Yamato, Musashi, I-401, normal construction for Hiryuu & Mutsu, complete more quests.
Now that I've at least become aware of how much I don't know, it feels great to have so much to do. The game to me even seems to be structured for all these self-assigned goals.

Deep down, Kancolle is a more complicated game than one may think, and orginally it use to be very simple and basic back in it's early days. But as the years go on, the game continues to become more complex and more strategies that are involved especially as more events roll in roll in. I mean the new land base plane system really changes the way we use our planes we once had in the past and now we have strategize what planes we need to use for battle and at the same time make sure they can cover the said distance to reach thier destination to assist your fleet without them getting mangled by the enemy fleet all at the same time.

It's a game planning and strategy along with RNG elements. And yes your Air Defense DDs (like Hatsuzuki) are really important. In fact most of the rare ships that don't have kai nis can be valuable even thought they don't have a second upgrade. I've always learn to never judge a kanmusu by it's cover as they can many potentials down the road.

Have you guys gotten ranking rewards before?

As of May, I've finally gotten my first Rank Reward that I've ever gotten by making it to the top 500 in April and boy was it not easy... but what I got was this:

The Prototype 61cm Hext Oxygen Torpedo Launcher Along with a Type 4 Sonar which was given to those who made it to the top 500. And the trip was not easy. But I can explain to you what it took to get up there though...

What did I have to go through to earn this?

Basically getting into the top 500 require you to be extremely persistent, strong and very determined. As you will need to devote a large amount of hours daily to make the point you earn to get into the rank system.

To summarize my runs during the top 500, I had to do the following in order to understand what measures I had to take to be on top of the game of everyone else.

Know how many points other players get on a daily basis.

Each server is different and will require you to at least observe what it take to work between the top 500 - 300 so you know what you need to be in top of everyone in the rank battle. Every server is different and therefore the results from each server will vary between players. As an admiral from Burnei, I know that our server is generally the most relaxed out of all the Kancolle servers (as most of the players there are from the Western Boom back in late 2013)

So competiion on burnei is no where nearly as heavy as it is in other locations. But if I have to give you the math, I would say on average, the players who make it into Burnei's top 500 are between 1600-1800 points on average.

To understand the rank point system, it's simply goes likes this for every 2000 points you earn in HQ experience, it counts as a point on the rank meter.

But before I go further into this let's review something else to remember.... you also gain points by completing Extra Operations every month.

50 for 1-5, 75 for 1-6, 100 for 2-5, 150 for 3-5, 180 for 4-5 and 200 for 5-5

So on average, you can gain a total of 755 points for completing all of the current extra operations that month.

It we take that 755 points into account and then subtract it from the admiral's scores from the end of the month, it should provide the standard amount that most players on average make. In my group, I consider 1800 to be the "safe zone" so...

1800 - 755 = 1045

So we then multiply the pointed needed for the month: 1045 x 2000 = 2,090,000 exp

So basically that's what I had to earn over the course of this month to make it in the top 500.

And personally if you plan to do this, you best consider doing this AT THE START OF THE MONTH. cause gaining the needed points will not be easy.

What about the resources


Depending on how much effort you're trying to do to get into the top 500, you need to remember that you are going to likely not make resource gains during the time of rank battle as you will be spending most of it JUST to stay in the ranks.

Be ready to conduct unique methods of "Budget Fleet management"  and also mutiple batchs of subgirls wouldn't hurt either for this. This'll save you some pain during your runs for points.


What are good places to go to?


There are several locations players use to rank battle, and each of them will invovle extensive uses of your fleet, so be prepare to utilize them accordingly:

2-2 The Bashi Island Budget Fleet Approach 800 points per boss node win
This is often a good spot to farm for points when you don't want to go to the other locations, but it'll be EXTREMELY tedious and time consuming.... I wouldn't recommned it as a main place to go to, but as a place to go to when you want to use a "budget fleet" to save on resource spending.

What's a budget fleet you may ask?

It's simple: Take 1 strong ship girl in your fleet and make her your flagship. Then make every other ship girl in your fleet a level 1 copy of some other ship girl (Carriers, Heavy Cruisers, and Battleships are highly recommend). Run fleet on map, and once you're done, refuel ONLY the flagship girl and no one else! A keep running them until they're too tired or run out of fuel. Scrap the copies, then rinse and repeat!

It works wonders, saves your resources, and give you those extra small points.

2-3 The Orel Cruise 1000 points per boss node win

If you used subs to gain fuel before in 2-3, this method is a straight forward method as it's a no brainier to everyone. You can keep using sub girls here to assist gaining fuel and possibly scoring boss node kills IF they land on it.

I general recommended number is 4 non kai'd subs (outside of U-511, she can be kai'd or converted to Ro with little cost) and you can usually get fuel gain, and if you get to the boss node you'll get a B which can net you an easy 1000 points each boss run.

5-4 The Southern Seas Submarine / Surface Fleet Run 3000 points per boss node win

This is where the majority of rank players ALL go for points. Is within this map. There are two ways to tackle the map, you can use an all submarine fleet or you can use  surface fleet. If you're played 5-4 and know how to use your drums to get a short cut to a supply node to gain fuel, then you know how to play this map the normal way with a surface fleet.

The method will usually cost you a hefty amount of ammo, and a little bit a fuel in the process.

But the alter net method is to take the Submarine route, which is also a gamble upon itself, but with 5- 6 talented sub girls, you can make the most out of this map. Since you'll likely take out most of the DDs and CLs before they can fight back. The only problem is, you will get a D on occasion in the night battle node since it can have an all sub fleet. Which oddly counts as a defeat since there are no "draws" Outside of that, if your fleet gets to the boss node, simply take out as many of the ships you can and that's an easy 3k there, and you'll only spent around 100something fuel/ ammo per round.

 How many points should I gain per day?
There's no real way to determine unless you do the math, but I know that for me, when I began to notice my rank building up, I made an important decision to try to keep my rank building up. So I set a goal during the month of April to gain about....

50000 points every 12 hours..... AKA 100,000 every day

As noted I started doing this around the 10th of April, so I did this for about 20 days. And over that course of time I....

Again 2 levels in my Admiral HQ level (from 116 to 118) and was VERY TIRED....but more importantly I made it into the top 500 by being in 350th place around the final 12 hours.

Also, I completed every single Extra Operation This was the most important factor to remember here.

I can't urge this enough. If you're aiming to get into the top 500, do all of the extra operation map.... including the dreaded 5-5. These are what player to get themselves into the top 500.

Other things that might be important to note:
Players have a tendency to focus more heavily on rank battles after an event, but will reduce thier activity as an event comes closer to happening. They will especially come to a near stop and focus on the event if the event comes into play.

Though highly skilled rank battlers (mostly those in the top 100 or so) will usually just aim the clear the event and get what they want on easy and care not for the rewards they can earn on harder difficulties. And some are just absolute neets (usually the top 1-5) that do nothing BUT rank battle, regardless of if an event is taking place or not.

During the final days of the month, rank battles will always get more intense during the final stretch. This is usually where things can be unpredictable, and sometime, unsuspecting players may get the jump on other rank battlers. Usually by scoring the wins on 5-5 and the like. But usually players who want to get into the top 500 are recommended to get into rank 430 or higher to guarantee thier chance at the rank reward. Anyone at 431 and lower is likely to be subjected to unexpected surprises by other rank battler, ESPECIALLY in final 12 hours!

Why are the final 12 hours so crucial?

This is where you will usually know where you stand in the ranks JUST before the final tally. You will not know if you made it into the ranks until AFTER ranks rewards are handed out. This is where players will usually throw surprising upsets that can throw some players for a spin. Important things to note is that rank points gained via Boss nodes will usually end at 8 PM JST on the final day. But rank points from beating the Extra Operations can still be gained during 8PM -12 Midnight of the final day for that month. And that is where the unexpecting upsets can happen. So yes, rank battle is a blood bath, rank battle is taxing, and I only recommend it if you have LOTS of free time and /or resources on your hands.

Just remember, that usually during that time players will usually complete certain early EO maps they haven't beaten, rarely do you usually see more than 30-50 people cause an upset during this time frame (which you'll know nothing about till you know if you did or did not get your rank reward).  Just assume to worst and always do everything you can under your final hours to build up the points you need to hold your rank in place.

I alone was impressed I accomplished this as I do not see myself doing this stunt again any time soon....

Yes, I'm aware of this for I-168 since she remains a sub and not a sub plane carrier like the rest of her I-Go sisters, this is often a good approach for standard Orel Cruising, but during rank battle, you want to save as much time as possible since time and the amount of time you can invest if your biggest enemy during rank battles. This is where trying to minimize the time in repairs comes in handy.

During my rank battle runs, a fresh batch of maxed level 10 I-go members and just let them go nuts on the map. They did rather efficiently and I only had to worry about 10 minute repair times vs. the 30-50 minute repair times they would get in late levels.

Meanwhile there's a few other things that might be worth addressing while we're at it.

Kancolle Android Update

So on the 10th Kancolle's Closed Beta Android test session will begin. The game will be down for maintenance to implement this new feature, expect to learn about what you'll need to do for Kancolle Android soon enough for those who made it into the Android Lottery.

In addition, more Rainy Season lines....(maybe art too???)

The Next Asashio-Class member update

So if you also heard, in an update following the Android Update, the next update to follow will introduce the next Kai Ni which will be the another member of the Asashio-Class.

This time, the Asashio-class DD that will be getting her Kai Ni will be:

A DD the served as the flagship of Destroyer Division 8 and worked along with Ooshio. She also sunk trying to fulfill a promise.

This alone hints that the DD we're going to be getting a remodel for at some point will be
Asashio
. So have fun training her, I've trained all of mine to level 75 and above, so I'm ready... I think.

I'm here to let you know that they've done an update to the Android Version.

The basic thing that has been noted is as follows:

1. Android has expanded it's application frame, those who signed up via the lottery beta may get a chance in thier notice today! Be sure to look to see if you been accepted into your Android version. 80,000 applicants have been accepted today!

2. Tweaks with the Android UI scrolling for the Factory and buttons in the resupply section|

3. Additional phone have been added that can be useable to play Kancolle Android.

That's pretty much it....

Also....

By the time, Devs have noted that Kancolle Android is planned to release the full version prior to the release of the Summer event!

So by the time the Summer Event rolls in, everyone can go mobile via Android!

Also speaking about the summer, they've noted that "New Mutsuki-Class Destroyers" will be released at some point!

If this is any indication, we will be expected the final two members of the Mutsuki-class to finally appear after over 3 years. (If we get both)

In the meantime, it's been noted that.... The flagship of Destroyer Division 8 is going to get an "Interchangeable Kai Ni upgrade"

Meaning that she will get a regular Kai Ni and a Kai Ni Type D Upgrade.

What this means for this said ship girl, we don't know....

We know that Kasumi gained AA abilities with her Type B upgrade. What could said Asashio-class DD that'll get the new upgrade get soon?

Also, this'll mean you'll have to likely grind to a higher level for her Type D Kai Ni.

Well you might be right about one thing.

There's a theory a friend of mine conducted that they letter to thier Kai Ni ties to the Destroyer Model type.

Basiclly here's what's known about the Late Destroyer Model Types:

Type A Destroyer: Kagerou and Yuugumo-Class - They were mainly built for surface combat, while we don't have any Type-A remodels yet for destroyers, I could see this implying that anyone that gets one will have high firepower (probably Yuudachi tier levels)

Type B Destroyer: Air Defense Destroyers most specificlly the Akizuki-class. These DDs were intended to taking down planes. Kasumi Kai Ni B also ties into the fact she has an increased AA stats in place of other stats that get slightly reduced.

Type C Destroyer: Torpedo based Destroyer, Shimakaze fits the bill of the Type C family. None exsist in game yet (unless you count Shimakaze) but if we get one, expect high torpedo stats.

Type D Destroyer: The Matsu-Class Destroyers: They were made late in the war and were designed to be Anti-Air / ASW hybrids. They were also armed with Kaiten-Subs, but since Takana denouces the use of Kaitens and other suicide gear in game I can see this easily being replaced with equipping the Kyohyoteki which is the rough equivalant to it.

Keep in mind this is just speculation fuel, but odds are Asashio's going to likely have high AA and ASW (with weaker firepower and Torpedo power in the process) for her Type - D Remodel with a possibility she can also be armed with the midget sub in the process..

But yeah, been busy busting my butt around the clock trying to collect information and do tests with the ASW theory.

Basiclly only a handful of Kanmusus can do Pre-empttive ASW (due to the fact most can't reach 100 ASW at level 99) attacks unless they're married. Odds are you're limited to several DDs, most of the light cruisers your torpedo cruisers.  Also as an important test I just conducted, modified equipment via Akashi's workshop does not contribute to the ASW. So you have to build it based on your Kanmusu's level and base ASW stats of your equipment.

Welp, it's time! It's only the start of July and the Devs have dropped the annoucement.

The Summer 2016 Event is coming on it's way and it now under preperations...

The main thing that they gave us as a big hint at the start is the following:

1. Prepare your Air forces as you will be using them. This suggests the role of planes is going to be very important once again. So if you know how to manage your Land Base Air Forces, you should consider making sure you have enough fighters and other planes to use accordingly.

2. Prepare your fleet, this is pretty standard by now, so everyone knows to train new ships girls so you can get ready for the upcoming event.

3. The Event is expected to be Moderate in scale in comparison to the previous Summer Events. Which makes since, since the last event was large, long and downright HARD.

So yeah, start preparing as soon as possible to keep in mind the theme of planes is going to be important for this event.

You now Akashi can improve fighters now.... right? There might be a reason for this (if you planning to take on harder difficulties)

Previous event rewards more often than not tend to reappear during future events as drops, so as long as you've got the resources and the determination to farm for her, you'll be good to go. It'll all really just come down to the RNG.

Summer "Swimsuit mode" has been implemented. Kanmusus from last year's Swimsuit mode will be brought back for this year's swimsuit session.

100k in all fields seems excessive. Though some of you seemed to have spent more than 25k in the previous event on hard.

For easy you need moderately leveled ships, passable standard equipment (guns, torps, planes), and maybe some specialized equipment like T3 shells. After that, stock up on buckets and resources in that order.

Anyways I'm going to discuss about some stuff I wanted to talk about for the last few weeks, but haven't had a chance because I've been occupied with alot of stuff as of late. So let's take a moment to discuss some things:



Take those old fighter planes and to turn them into something better and new.


Did you know that a tweet posted a few weeks back the devs noted that it was possible to convert planes that you modified via Akashi's workshop and have the modified effect carry over when you convert it?

Basiclly, if you're making planes to do some of the plane conversion quests, it's strongly recommended that you consider taking a old plane that is needed for the quest (let's say we use the monthly Conversion Quest that invovles the Type 21 fighter) and do the following:


By doing this you can actually save on the cost it would take to modify a fully converted plane in the long run since most of the planes that are offered for modification will cost more screws and bauxite compared to the weaker planes.

So basiclly, if you have access to do quests such as the converting your fighter into an Iwamoto Fighter Quest Chain, Then consider max modifying the plane first in it's earliest stages so it can be fully transferred the final conversion!

Since all fighters get a +2 AA bonus upon max modification, let's say by doing the quest I demonstrated here to turn a Type 21 fighter into a Type 52 Skilled, I've managed to turn out a plane that is now currently better than a Reppu! (+10 AA Reppu vs. +11 AA with maxed Type 52 skilled) All while saving on resources!

This here is probably a good thing to practice if you're a veteran admiral who want to work on powering up his planes before events.

Just keep in mind.... make sure you have enough planes for both your carriers and possibly your land based air squadrons by the time the event rolls in.

Also for the admirals who already converted these planes long before this happened? Welp, better have lots of Bauxite, screws and Type 52s around cause you're going to need them to modify your fully converted planes

The Kancolle Summer Maid Cafe + Irako's Sake Shop

In Japan right now, there has been announced two Kancolle themed cafes that'll be open over the course of one month.

One will take place over at Akihabara which will be the Kancolle Summer Cafe
Here you can purchase food, enjoy a nice Summer theme experience and get a chance to rent out some Summer swim gear and buy some special Kancolle merchandise such as Littorio , Yuudachi, Sharatsuyu Beach Towels and so forth!

Kancolle Annual Naval Review Vol 3.

Mentioned several times before, the annual Kancolle Meet up that takes place at Yokohama Naval Base (known as the Kancolle Naval Review Meeting) will be happening on August 7th. This is where Kadokawa is likely to go all out with what they have to offers in terms of Kancolle merchandise and also give people who have been allowed to attend this meeting to get a first word look on the upcoming Summer Event and things coming up in the future in Kancolle in general.


Kancolle Arcade

Kancolle Arcade has grown rapidly in popularity and thus is getting a far better treatment than Kancolle Kai did (Kai kinda died quickly since it was poorly executed and was more of an Iowa Hype Engine).

Admirals have been going to spend thier money quite frequently on the Arcade in Japan and it still had long lines that can range from 30 minutes to hours in most locations. And thanks to it's surging popularty the Arcade has gotten several update following it's release.

So far we: Got Nagato, Mutsu, some additional members of the Fubuki-Class added, Nachi, Haguro, Ashigara, Yukikaze, Mutsuki, Kisaragi, Ayanami, Shikinami added into all Arcade Cabinate along with the inital roster!

We had the ability to buy furniture, in the Arcade and also had a revision of the development room

And probably most recently, the introduction to Anti-Submarine Warfare into the Arcade machine which mean yes, now Sub Abyssals are now in the Arcade game and from what I've seen it's an elaborate game of "Hide and seek"

Kagerou, Kuroshio, and Shiranui are coming out in later this month and with the arcade showing no change of slowing down we can only assume the Arcade Version going to just continue to gain momentum with time if they can pace out the content carefully like they have with the browser game.



Wonfest Summer 2016

As of yesterday Wonfest had taken place! And lots of figures have been announced!

Kancolle Summer Event Related News

Well so far we gotten some additional news feed regarding the event for those that are curious so lemme explain to you what we should be expecting for the event so far:

1. Event is expected to be Medium-Scale Sized so you're looking at around 4-5 maps big
2. It's Recommended that you prepare your ships and your air forces. (Basiclly prepare your ship girls and get some good decent planes ready)
Additional Note: I recommend having planes ready for both your carriers and your Land Based Air Squadrons since that's almost a given

3. Admirals planning to play on higher difficulties are suggested to have a large, diverse fleet. (Suggests Multi-staged single maps, alternet debuffing paths, and possible ship locking)
4. Currently more than one new ship girl is confirmed to appear in this event (One which was hinted back in May being a missing member of the Mutsuki-Class)
5. One of the new ship girls will be a Large Foreign Ship Girl!

This is all the information that is known for now. And with that known we now can say that we are expecting a large ship girl that is bound to appear, which could be anywhere between a CA, a CV or a BB at this rate.... American, German, or Italian.... pick your poison as they're all fair game at this point.

I think the first I was to ask is, did you buy your repair docks.

If no, I would recommend that since having extra repair docks can be very important.

If yes, then I'll proceed with the next question:

How many open slots do you have available for your kanmusu? If you are less than 20 I recommend some home base expansion. You will need them if you happen to start collecting lots of new Kanmusu you don't own.

And this applies ESPECIALLY if you have Akashi. Since if you have her modifying your equipment is equally as important as training your kanmusus.

This especially will apply to off seasons where you train clones to farm equipment for modification purposes.

As an alternative suggestion: Have you ever considered a Dock expansion for your ship composition recording? You start out with 3, but you can have up to 8 in total. 3 should be doable, but if you seek for convinence, you can always look into expanding your fleet recording slots so you can have extra slots to quick select fleets outside of your expedition team and the like.... but that's an optional thing.

Expanding construction docks is not something I recommend though since most ships can be built easily and farming the instant construction is very easy thus making the idea of construction expansion almost a moot point.

So if I had to choose between the choices you provided, Home Base Expansion.



Also lemme note that August 1st will be a maintenance update.

The main thing to note regarding the update is that:

1. There will be some small additional Summer CG art that'll be added (Yamato and possibly some others)
2. Maximum Main Base Expansion will happen (giving an extra 10 ship and 40 equipment to purchase)
3. Kancolle Android should become available to all players following this update.
4. Preparing stuff for event....

Also as for tonight June Rank rewards will be coming out tonight. So anyone in the top 500 may be rewarded some fancy gear.

I expected the expansion would be better, but thought maybe the time saved in construction dailies would come to be considerable if I had 4 docks. I already have all repair docks. Ah, and I have only one base expansion so 110 ship capacity.

Yes, recording slots are very, very convenient. I'm glad I started using them over this Summer, persistently switching between setups for PvP, expeditons, orel cruising, and quests was wringing my patience.
Now all that's needed is fast equip.

Oh, an Italian aircraft carrier. I'm looking forward to the planes.

Not that I'm aware of. Being the flagship is more related to Night Battle Cut-ins then AACI. The ship you use however does however have a certain level of priority over other ships.

Such as like, if you use mutiple AACI ships, if certain ships trigger an AACI, one will take the higher priority over the other. I think the order goes Akizuki-class -> Maya Kai Ni -> Certain Kai Ni AA based ships (Kasumi Type B, Satsuki Kai Ni, Isuzu Kai Ni, ect) -> All other ships.

That's how I recall it.


In the meantime though, let's talk about some news...

So not too long ago the Devs released a new book Kancolle Style Vol. 2 (Thanks Ducky!) To quickly go over what this book is about. Kancolle Style is a guide book design to help teach players how to play Kancolle as well as get some information and tips about various materials and reveal new infromation regarding the fanchise as a whole.


Within the magazine, I managed to get a hold of an article which had an interview from Kensuke Tanaka, the game's lead producer. And in the article he talks all about the what is in store for us with Kancolle for the Summer and as we march on towards the year with the game and the franchise as it's start moving closer to it's 4th year.

1.DDs and CL with high levels that can conduct preemptive - ASW (so 100 ASW or higher in terms of level +equipment), this will probably apply to higher difficulties more.
2. Strong Fleets for surface combat
3. Plenty of well trained, strong planes (and if possible, modified fighters wouldn't hurt)


So basically a little bit of everything is expected here for the event.


Finally to add more notes to the update we can note now that:

1. More Swimsuit Mode CG which will give us Yamato, Haruna Kai Ni, and Mikuma (revealed via Kancolle Style) Swimsuits,

More might be to come assuming the reports of the Ichiban Kuji Keychains are of any indication but treat that with a grain of salt.

Honestly I don't get why people have an issue with Mizuho's minimalistic changes since we know the artist behind her is also responsible for working full time on Abyssal art.

But people have a tendency to complain over the most trivial things....

Either way Mizuho practically has art for every season now, so she's not bound to get anymore unless they do more promotional food art like the Sukiya campaign.

One portion of the event will be based upon the Sinking of the Prince of Wales and Repulses  expect LBAS to likely be a key formula for that battle.
Event Title: The Second Battle of the Malaya Sea
Abyssal Boss "Terrible BattleShip Hime" has been comforted for event. Has 3 larger twin guns and wears a swimsuit.

Kancolle Arcade:
Events will be conducted for the Arcade Version starting in the Fall
Shoukaku and Zuikaku can be found during the event.
The Event will be based upon Spring's 2014 Event.

Kancolle Movie:
Trailer was shown.
Release date for the movie has been confirmed for 11/26.

Well guess what? You're right!

With today's dev tweet we now know the Battleship in question will be from the Queen Elizabeth Class there will also be one other ship included along with Minazuki in the process.

Also considering how ASW has been gaining momentum, I would say that yes, Minesweepers may become a thing at some point. Especially with the "new ship type" mentioned back in the Kancolle Style Vol.2 Interview.

Well since MotK is finally back up, let's take a moment to review our standings as of right now.

Since tonight is event Night, let's explains what the event has in store for us ATM based upon confirmed evidence that has been gathered:

1. The Event is going to be Medium sized in Scale.
2. The Event will be inspired by the Battle of Malaya (but at the same time won't be entirely based on Tanaka's interpretation)
3.  We are expecting so far two kanmusus which include Minazuki and a Queen Elizabeth Class Battleship.
4. At least 1 Hime Abyssal will have thier own "Swimsuit mode" which will be visible during the later stages of the event.
5. The event is expected to invovle a little bit of everything which will include: An ASW sweep, a torpedo squadron mission, A transport operation, and a full scale intercept and counter attack mission which will invovle using Land Based Air Forces AND Combined fleets.
6. It's been noted that that one abyssal that may be expected to appear that be based upon "Singapore Fortress" so expect an installation battle.
7. Admirals playing on harder difficulties should plan to have a fleet for each operation.
8. The event is expected to be a little over 2 weeks long.

Also things such as Naval Mines, will be considered not relevant since there has been only a few posts on twitter, but nother in offcial book sources thus right now can be deemed undetermined if that'll be present or even legit at this time..

Warsprite is the final Event map reward.

7. Land-Based Air Squadrons

Starting from Main Stage Operation 2 and Onward, you will be able to use Land Based Air Sqaudrons

Land-Based Air Squadrons system have been rebalanced.

8. Regarding Rebalanced Land-Based Air Squadrons

The Distance a Land Based Air Sqaudron can travel is now determined by the distance the lowest distant plane in your group.

You can improve the distance your Land-Based Air Squadron can travel by using a Type 2 Flying Boat or Catalina to help aid refuel your planes as they travel outside thier normal distance.

It is recommended that if you take bombers, that you need to travel the shortest possible distance you can to reach your destination.

9.. Turning off Ooyodo's Event Lines Voice

You now have the option to turn off Ooyodo's voice when she presents you with mission brifing during the event

10. Ooyodo Swimsuit Mode

Those are not viable options I'm afraid. Once you clear a map, you become unable to change its difficulty.

Oh, I've seen this before somewhere else. Perhaps you're using command center? It seems to be a toggleable setting.

Yeah this is a feature from KC3 and I literally don't like it. It's features like that which I find annoying since it feel like it's just catering to entertain or just making an over glorified warning system. You can turn this feature off, but I feel like it's made to cater to some CoD populus for some reason.

Personally I prefer a more simpler system like Kancolle Viewer (KCV) which just have a line flash in  red and tells you "Your ship is critically damage! Take her to repairs!"

Anyways let's discuss my run with the event thus far.

Again as a personal reminder, this is from Hard mode as I will only play the game from that difficulty.

E-1 CrashDiving a Submarine Beach Party

This map was literally a cakewalk.... I really don't have much to say here. If you litteraly spent time preparing your destroyers and Light Cruisers to get them to Pre-ASW levels you litterally can curbstomp 90% of this map with very little issue.

So basiclly, what I used for the map was 1 light Carrier (Shouhou), 2 Light Cruiser (Isuzu and Naka), 3 Destroyers (Lebiccio, Asashio Type D, and Asashimo) all armed with as many ASW gear as they could with Shouhou only carrying a Saiun to meet LOS requirements.

All subs I met were put down before the fight started.

The only area that posed a remote threat was the tranposrt node which had 1 CL, 2 Late Model DDs, and 3 Transports which could ranged from elite to flagship variants. Most of the time, it poses no problem, but sometimes you have to deal with issues with the transports suckerpunching you. Outside of that you're good.

Then you get to meet your target.

The Submarine Summer Hime

Honestly.... this is one of those cases where if you trained your fleet well, you'll literally bulldoze through it like it's noting. And this is literally what happens once you have a full pre-ASW team on board. You literally slaughter the Sub Hime like she's a toy before even the battle ends. And all your left to usually pick off are the two destroyers sitting in the background.

Honestly this is the most laughable battle in the game and to this point I can only say only the transport node poses a threat... nothing else does.

Now if you're unfortunate and don't have the pre-emptive ASW requirements, an alternative is to bring 1 fast BB (Not Kongou or Haruna.... save them for much later) and 2 CL and 3 DD. That should help make up for this. Assuming you're in need of a second round of ASW if the sub hime poses troulbe.

A new submarine girl who drops all over the event. She's pretty standard like most sub girls are. But she might make a good alternative when you don't want to send out someone like I-401 for orel cruising or whatever other budget based resource mining you plan to do.

I think this is a good place to wrap up for now. I'll cover E-2's story in a bit and will stream E-3 tonight.

Oh and did I forget to mention the E-1 main battle theme is the most jamming theme I heard in quite a while?

I can't imagine ever playing like that, but I have heard plenty of horror stories from those that do, accidentally or not.
Thing is, though, Kancolle Viewer doesn't seem to work on the laptop I'm using right now. The app appears on the Task Manager in the background processes section for a few seconds, but then it disappears.

To my knowledge, night battles work the same way as they do in single fleets, but I may be wrong. I've never noticed a difference at least.

My Memory recalls that  to some extent, the effects mainly contribute to daytime battle where it's most noticeable.

But what I'm aware of is that combine fleets use a whole different mechanic which depends heavily on the Combine Fleet type you use. For example, I recall that:
Surface Task force have a tendency to be slightly less accurate in comparison to Mobile Task Force
Yet at the same time, a surface task force is good for protecting your escort fleet from danger (since they'll likely wipe out most enemy fleets before hand, while mobile task force makes the escort fleet go first)

Mobile Task Force has slightly better accuracy and allows you to utilize carrier strength for battle.
But as noted before the escort fleet is forced to go first which can be dangerous sometimes

Meanwhile Transport Escort Combine Fleets (for transport Operations) usually have your main transport fleet have low accuracy (since they're your main transport force) while your escort fleet have decent accuracy.

From what I understand equipment mainly effected by accuracy within each combined fleet but I don't recall it being effected much else.

As for night battle it's still considered important to use Night battle cut-ins (for your escort fleet) when permitted since it'll help clean clear out boss ships more easily. Night battle formulas aren't effected too differently from combined fleets when I last checked.

Alright, the reason Shigure and Yukikaze weren't performing cut-ins was probably because installation types can't be targeted by torpedoes.

For future reference if I had instead equipped 3 HA guns rather than 2 and a torpedo mount could I have been able to do cut-ins on the Summer Harbor Hime?

My pride can't take that I've been playing KanColle for over a year now and am still doing events on easy. But, ugh, I simply don't have the number of high-level ships necessary to comfortably deal with ship locking.

If it helps, I'm only on Easy Mode at the moment too, haha. I did the first two maps on Medium though for the land base planes.

I went with 2BB, 1CV, 3CV(B) + 1 CL, 1CL(T), 1CA, 3DD

I loaded up my Kaga with fighters and a Saiun to prevent getting a red T-Cross and my armoured carriers each took up two fighters plus some torpedo and dive bombers each for damage. With that, I loaded up Verniy for a torpedo cut-in plus a searchlight, Abukuma and Kitakami each got a Kyohyoteki (though Kitakami was loaded up for a torpedo cut-in as well), and I had Akizuki and Hatsuzuki running anti-air along with Maya, though I switched out one of Akizuki's radars for star shells. I also had Abukuma hold the night recon plane as well just in case.

Amusingly enough, my final sortie allowed me to S-rank every single node we passed and we managed to shoot down every single one of the Wo-class's planes at both air raid nodes and the boss node, rendering her completely useless. I also had two air bases worth of long distance bombers (with one large flying boat each) head for the boss node while one air base consisting of torpedo bombers and dive bombers hit Node I for me and I used two fully sparkled support expeditions to further damage whatever I could.

Nothing notable happened in E-2 Normal. I used Abukuma, Mizuho, Akizuki, Kasumi, Kisaragi, and Kitakami which gives me 3 (!) opening torpedo shots on top of Mizuho's air phase. I brought in boss support for last dance which helped because I got Red-T'd.

Finally getting runs where I can S-rank the E-4 boss node.

Loading Kaga with Reppuu and a Saiun, Echelon Formation for the BB hime night node, PBY-5A Catalina for one of my LBAS. These were together the solution.

I'll probably need the armor debuff for last dance though.

I'm hearing a lot of reports of people doing 100 runs and not getting Prinz. A comment I read on a youtube video said it took him 300 runs on Easy.

A new Special-Type Destroyer (Fubuki/Ayanami Class destroyer) will be available as a drop in the regular maps.

She can be found in 2-4 in mutiple nodes, and 4-1,5-1, and 6-2 boss nodes.

Also she's a requirement for the new quests since they tie in with the 19th destroyer division.

5-1 is utter hell right now. I absolutely despise the quest involving an all cruiser fleet. I can barely get passed the first node without someone getting shot to hell, though the shelling support helps a little bit.

5-1 is actually easy when you aren't limited to cruisers. Clearing the map to get to 5-2 is really simple, it's just this particular quest that's an incredible pain.

5-1 is actually easy when you aren't limited to cruisers. Clearing the map to get to 5-2 is really simple, it's just this particular quest that's an incredible pain.

I'm assuming you're all talking about the new Mikawa Fleet Questline? If so, then yes, this quest and the Maritime Fleet Quest line are considered to be the hardest questlines in the game thus far. Since both of them revolve around luck to make it through. I'm lucky to have beat the Mikawa Quest on the first go. (Maritime Quest line took 20+ tries because of the 20% boss route guarantee)

But anyways let's take a moment to go through what's been going on in the Kancolle as of recent:

Kancolle x Nakau Collaboration

So for those that haven't heard, Kancolle is currently conducting a collaboration with another food company in Japan. This time it'll be with the fast food company Nakau. A restaurant famous for it's Udon Noodles. Currently, several Kanmusus have been announced to be a part of the collaboration which will include, Kongou, Akagi, Mizuho, Akitsushima, and Akebono.

In addition to it, when the collaboration starts (On the 28th, sometime afterwards, they will be releasing special promotional CG content into the game which will show us some KAnmusus eating some Nakau branded Udon....

Annual Saury Festival

As we come to know, the Kancolle Saury Festival is currently being planned to return once more. Currently the planned time of this mini event to appear is likely to be around Mid October


Land Based Air Squadrons and the new map

As noted sometime during the fall season, it's been announced that we will be getting Land Based Air Sqaudrons for the regular part of the game. Where or how this will happen we do not know, let along when it'll happen. On the other hand, there will also be a new normal map being planned out as well. I speculate these will be released together at some point. When that will be? We don't know.....

In an interview we translated fomr Comptiq magazine we learned a great deal about all the above mentioned content as well as the planned Kai Ni kanmusu.

The main hint Tanaka gives out is that the Light Cruiser is from the 5,500 ton class. This basiclly means all members of the Nagara-class are eligiable (sense Sendai-class all have Kai Nis) According to Tanaka's really vauge hint: He says the he mentioned the hint in his previous disucission, which many people belelive is in relation to when Tanaka talks to the interview about Uranami and how she sunk in Panay. Which light Cruiser also sunk in Panay?....

Simple....

, she is the likely candidate based on what has been decoded from the hint.

Exact date of Kai Ni is unknown.


Kancolle Arcade Event is coming

Kancolle Arcade will soon start holding it's own events!

The first event that is being planned out in the works is called "Enemy Fleet Front Line Anchorage Raid!"

As of current, Kancolle Arcade has introduced all the Kanmusus from when the game first launched in 2013 (+ Akizuki). And within this upcoming Arcade Event, Shoukaku and Zuikaku will now become avliable uponthe event's launch.

In addition, the old but memorable, Anchorage Demon / Hime will make her apperance as the boss of this event and will ....this time functioning like an installation! When she was first introduced in Kancolle (the browser game) she only worked like a ship and installation mechanics were not present in the game yet so she may be planned to behave quite different in the Arcade version.

I think this nails all the main core points now so... I hope this wets your appitite for the upcoming content for the fall season!

Aye, that's the one. The suffering is real, though I've stopped for a bit due to hoping that the map will get air raid mechanics and due to my new job. The suffering is real though. ;>;

Ah... well there go my hopes for Kuma and Tama this time around. It honestly feels like Kuma, and Takao as well, are getting shafted pretty hard when it comes to Kai Nis due to the fact that they're both name ships for their class.

It's only a resource grave yard, if you have difficulty with the last kill. I'll explain to you through what I use for that map since it might be a good idea to understand how to play this map.

4-5 is one of those extra operation maps that requires you to have a very strong fleet at hand because you're going to be dealing with a strong enemy fleet in tow. And since you're main target is an enemy installation Harbour Hime you're going to need some anti-installation gear to aid you here.

When I play this map, I use, 1 BB/ Fast BB, 2 CV, 3 CA.

During the early runs I tend to use a slightly weaker fleet, but in general I usually use Nagato, Shoukaku, Zuikaku, Myoukou, Choukai and Haguro.
Most ships are armed with the Tpe 3 Shell + Two main guns + Seaplane combo.

The CVs are armed with 2 fighters and two torpedo bombers.

The reason for this entire set up is because this should be strong enough to take out most of the boss fleets and also have all your kanmusus have a shot against the Harbor Hime (Since using torpedo bombers only will allow carriers to target installations)

Recommendation for pathing is to take the middle path, so when you reach the active branch part, head north.  South only leads to a night battle and a battleship battalion which will wreck your fleet along with the Anti-Agano/Naka Abyssal demon. :P

Middle path will pit you against some normal fleets consisting of usually 1 Ta-class, a Tsu-class and some other mediocre ships, a fleet a subs, and another batch of ships simlar to the first mentioned group.

If you get through that you'll face the Harbor Hime.

In her initial form, Harbour Hime is very weak and can be handled easily. She usually comes with a few floating fortresses and a Ru-class Flagship of Ru-kai variant along with some small ships or transports.

You're fleet should be able to handle here easily once you get to the boss node so that map shouldn't be too problematic. However, the entire ball game changes on the 5th and final kill.

On final kill, Harbor Hime switches up her equipment using now less planes and more damaging equipment.

She'll now use 1 plane, 2 guns and an AP shell.

For this fight I switch things up by: Using my strongest battleship, and putting three torpedo bombers and 1 fighter instead of the previously mentioned set up.

For my cases now a days, I use Iowa, Shoukaku, Zuikaku, Choukai Myoukou, and Haguro.

The Harbour Hime usually comes with a few floating fortresses, a garunteed Ru-kai and either transport or some stronger late model destroyers.
The main thing you want to hope for is that the carriers wipe out the weaker ships or event possibly take out the Ru-kai. Harbour Hime is also quite strong and will likely land a devastating blow on your ships, but if all goes in your favor, you should be able to take her down. But depending on the ships you have, it could either be done in one go, or may take several attempt thus burning your resources.

This suggest I'm going to provide to you here is optional, but for my case with Iowa, I usually use her with a set up to help cripple ships and do strong night battle damage. Basiclly I use 2 main guns + AP shell +Type 3 shell.She won't do much at the day, though she's strong enough to one shot all ships outside of Ru-Kai. But at the same time, she can do strong damage to the Ru-kai and Harbour hime despite only getting 1 shot. Follow up with night battle, you can be able take out the installation or Ru-kai with ease giving you the pathway to victory.

I hope this suggestion helps. In the meantime here's some news:


Next up date is set for October the 5th. On this day we are to expect, to finally be getting Land Based Air Squadrons for the normal maps. In the tweet it's noted that the Land based Air-Squadrons will be usuable for the Deepest parts of the Central Waters (World 6).

The hint is vague, but based on this information this implies that it might be possible for admirals to finally be able to beat 6-4 without having to have lots of special anti-installation gear assuming the information is correct.

For anyone that hard tried 6-4 "Recapturing Wake Island" you probably know that map is downright hard in it's current form and requires you to have several WG42s and maxed out Ka-Mi Tanks and Daihatsu + Marines along with Type 3 shells and then.... pray... .REALLY HARD.

If Land Based Planes can be used there, it'll drasticlly improve things so much making the map MUCH easier. But only time will tell if this place counts as the "Deepest parts" or not.

Bumping because tonight is maintainance night!

So far we know that the following is happening tonight:

1. LBAS is being implemented to the main part of the game. It'll be located deep within the Central Waters (World 6-4)
2. A new map is being implemented into the Central WAters which will ALSO use LBAS (world 6-5)
3. Some kanmusus will get Oyakodon mode CG (Nakau Callboration)
4. Expansion to your base and equipment (which you'll have to buy like always)

There's probably more, but this is what's in store for us right now.

Later this month also is the Saury Festival and also in Japan an IRL festival is happening as well which may serve as the place where Event information will be unvailed.

Well while this isn't happening yet, it might be helpful if you have several sonars and searchlights ready. If you have skilled lookouts, even better. Since all these items will aid in helping you catch fish. Just remember to consider selecting multiple fishing zones since they still talk about things like "overfishing" can occur. Though I have no idea if that's really a thing or not.

Also keep in mind this article is from 2015, I'll probably consider updating it for the 2016 edition, but assuming the Saury Festival will be back in the same way it was a year ago, it shouldn't be too much different from last year (save maybe the quests and Isokaze's drop.... maybe)

Accessing Land Based Air Squadrons

To access Land Based Air Squadrons to make life in 6-4 and 6-5 you will need to obtain a set of "construction teams" to be able to set up your Land Bases. But in order to do it you need to complete B41 "The New Mikawa Fleet" Quest... so you can access the new set of quests.

Everyone know's how hard that quest is, so good luck wining that one, cause you need it!

Otherwise you can take the easy way out by forking over 800 yen to buy a Construction Team. Then you should be able to set up a LBAS for 6-4 and 6-5 if you don't want to bother with the quest.

Second I'm hope you're ready for Abyssal Combined Fleets this is now a legit thing.

Alright, got the two prototype flight deck catapults. Used one for Shoukaki Kai Ni and am now leveling her for her final remodel. Zuikaku will follow soon after.

So, some questions:
I read that it was better to use dive bombers than torpedo bombers on CVB because their focus is day battle and not their opening air strike. Is this true? And why would dive bombers be better for day battle?
I'm improving a Zero Fighter Type 21 (Skilled) via Akashi. Browsing through the line of construction quests, I was wondering if a max-improved Type 62 Zero Fighter-bomber (Iwai Squadron) is something I'd prefer over a Zero Fighter Type 52 Model C (Iwai Squadron). The former seems like it'd see a lot more practical use.

Also Totaku thanks a lot for the pointers for 4-5.
I plan to take on the map later this month and incorporate it into my monthly medal income when I get Shoukaku and Zuikaku remodeled and modernized.
I expect my setup to be this: Nagato, Shoukaku, Zuikaku, Choukai, Myoukou, and Prinz Eugen.
Prinz Eugen instead of Haguro because of the luck stat. Will probably use the Type 1 AP Shell with a Type 3 Shell on Nagato.

This is mainly because Shoukaku and Zuikaku have very high firepower (something dive bombers depend on) compared to any other Carrier in the team. So yes, if you were to use them to help aid on thier attack turn, they'll be able to do a great amount of damage.

Shoukaku (who has 70FP as maxed Type A Carrier form) is technically more suited for this over Zuikaku (who has only 65 FP at max Type A Carrier form and is only 1 FP over Souryuu). But because of how thier plane placement works as an armored carrier, it should allow them both to do a surprising amount of damage when they get thier turn to attack.

However I still learn toward toward bombers for taking out tougher targets (usually in the opening phase if possible) and for situations where you want to concentrate your fire on installation type enemies.

As for the Type 52 Model C Iwai vs. Fighter Bomber Iwai Squadron debate: This is a matter of debate since there's been conflict on both of these.

Some people prefer having high AA so opt to keep the Type 52 Model C, while others go for the fighter bomber which as you know sacrifices some of it's AA, but give you the ability to use a fighter plane with dive bomber capabilities. So this is more of a matter of preference and taste.

A fun thing to note about the planes when they're maxed: A maxed modified fighter plane get a +2 AA bonus while a maxed modified fighter / bomber gets a +2.5 AA bonus.

I think this is a matter of use your own judgement and decide which plane will suit your needs better.

As for your plans for 4-5, I think that's a good plan you got there. You'll probably have some terrific results once you get Shoukaku and Zuikaku prepared for that map.

In the meantime let's talk about what's coming up in the next update!


Naval Base Saury Festival is coming!
Yup, you heard right! On the 21st of this month, we will have fishing season back for another round this fall! So get your sonars, searchlights and looks outs ready. Cause there will be plenty of fish in the water!

In addition, you may want to also look seeing some Kanmusus doing some shopping! Kongou and Yamashiro have been announced to be getting special shopping mode CG art (which is connected to the Nakau collaboration) as well. What else is to come? We don't know.

I do however know they've been reminding everyone that a CL is coming that will be getting a Kai Ni and that she was sunk while trying to do a transport operation after being attacked by bombers.

(You should already know who it is as it's been hinted before)

Autumn 2016 Event
I think this shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, but based on tweets. The Autumn event is coming in.... November. We don't know much about it or what's in store for us. But they advise to plan a strong, diverse fleet like always...

I will give you an idea what I am thinking and guessing on this event....

The fact we got Uranami recently and
Kinu
is getting a Kai Ni can't be mere coincidence. These two are strongly connected to one another in thier historic ties.

To make matters more interesting, the Kancolle Saury Festival which will take place in Yokohama Japan (an IRL one in Rinko Park) will have some of the Seiyuus present. It takes place on the 23rd of this month.

Guess what else happened on the 23rd of October.....a little over 70+ years ago?

, then you're on the right track! At least... that's what I'm thinking it'll be....

Will it be that though? We don't know yet.... chance are we'll know on October 23rd once the Seiyuus spill the beans on the upcoming campaign on the day of that festival.

Battle of Leyte Gulf
in my third year.

My body is ready and hoping for a
Tama Kai Ni.

Anyway though, if that's truly the case, then we can likely expect the devs to release
another American ship
while also throwing a crap ton of
PT boats and submarines
at us.

It is indeed. Though
Shigure was the only survivor considering the Fusou sisters both ended up at the bottom and Mogami burned for hours and took tons of punishment before sinking.

Finally got the last daihatsu I needed for my expeditionary fleets thanks to the quest that needed eight saury. Now I just have to fully upgrade them all in order to maximize my resources. I'm probably gonna try and get the twenty-four saury needed for the last festival quest, but we'll see. That said though, 1-5 is an amazing farming ground for saury since SONAR and depth charges are basically mandatory for the map anyway.

Well I hope you had a wonderful fishing season. Because I had a blast with it! I managed to catch 50 fish in my overall hunt this year. It was truly glorious!

Anyways, I've been very busy so I haven't had much time to really discuss everything so I'll be brief as I'm still occupied. Let me give you the rundown of the update that was just completed!

A fishing season is over and the fall season is winding down.... As the Kanmusus prepare for the next major campaign, Kinu steps up to become the next Kai Ni Light Cruiser. She now has become a Daihatsu / AA focused CL.

Kinu's Second Remodel allow her to become a rather unique light cruiser. While she can't launch pre-emptive Torpedoes like Abukuma, she does however come with good anti-air cut-ins that she can do, and also she is capable of functioning as a Daihatsu by her very self!

So yes, if you take Kinu onto an expedition, she will provide a 5% boost to resources by default! However, she is still held back by the cap and can only provide up to 20%.

So in other words, Kinu + 3 Daihatsu will equal 20% resource gain!

She can also be used to modify Daihatsus into Toku Daihatsu and improve 25mm concentrated auto cannons with the help of Akashi!

Well, Kinu Kai Ni will be replacing Abukuma in my expeditionary fleet once I've got her. Abukuma is much more useful offensively and that extra resource gain is too good to pass up.

And yes, thanks to the Saury Festival in Yokohama we do know there will be an American CV coming in the Fall Event.
Also they reported other foreign ships that would appear.
And that the next planned Kai Ni after Kinu will be a Heavy Cruiser. When it'll be though will be another mystery.

So I'm surprised this has not been posted with a topic yet, but I want to proceed to bring this up since this is relatively important news.

If you read the twitter recently, then you know the KanColle is getting ready to do a Big Winter Collaboration with the Japanese Clothing company Mitsukoshi. But as of today they made another announcement about holding a big public event will be taking place later this month...

For those are attending the Japan area I want to note that they will be giving an opportunity for people to come attend the public held event on 11/17/2016 where there will be wining, dining, and lots of piano music being played!

Think of it as an exquisite French Dining experience!

They plan to have some of the finest french wine available along with a pianist who will be playing various Kantai Collection songs via Piano over there. Doors will open be around 16:30 - 17:00 and  the performance will be starting at around 19:30 - 20:00

Ticket to attend the event will be sold from the 6th to the 8th of this month. So you will need to buy them up quickly.

What does this mean for KanColle Related stuff?
Well, you know that lately the Kanmusus are drinking fine wine... so there must be a connection to this right? I actually expect some kind of reveal over there, but I'm not expecting anything event related as I think the event will be happening BEFORE this event takes place.

I don't care about this festival, who's that ship girl on the left of the banner?

Honestly I think the whole "wine" thing and this wine public event that is taking place are all connected. So based on this aspect and looking at the illustration alone I think we can deduct that the shipgirl on the left is brand new and is likely to be revealed this event.

Based on the silhouette of her rigging. I do believe the Kanmusu in question is likely....

How good is Sendai? She has two reconstructions, so I assume that she's good, but given my luck I expect her to be some kind of a niche. Also, what's the deal with her and night battles?

Sendai is a nice light cruiser. Anything with a Kai 2 is usually pretty good once leveled to that point. Also, her Kai 2 comes packaged with a set of very powerful night equipment.

The night battle thing is because the real Sendai's major engagements were pretty much all at night. In-game, it doesn't change much except personality and the equipment she gets at Kai 2.

She comes with some really good and pretty necessary night battle equipment that'll make your life a bit easier for them, so she'll definitely be necessary to get those equips when you K2 her.

Well it's time to sit down and talk to everyone about the Event as the day of the event is set for tomorrow!

Let's give a run down on the news to help you catch up!

Event information
As of recent, the Kancolle Devs have revealed that the title of the upcoming event is callled "Annoucement, the 3rd Fleet Operation Act!"
Based on the currently known details, the main stage operation will consist of the following but not limited to:
1. A Transport Operation
2. A Surface battle in which you will be conducting an Air Defense and fight off against a Carrier Task Force.
3. A search and destroy mission to take out an enemy ship.

We also know that the event will consist of 5 maps!
3 Main Stage Operations and 2 Extra Operations
And finally the final reward for the event will be the American Aircraft Carrier.... Saratoga!

Maintenance is expected to be from 11:00 til 21:30 JST
So do your best to make your last minute preparations!

The KanColle Festival de Beaujolais Nouveau and the Reveal of the French Ship Girl!

As you probably know last night, the KanColle Festival de Beaujolais Nouveau Wine Festival took place last night and people got a chance to go attend the show. Most people got to listen to a piano recital with Kancolle music being played there and they got to sample some wine and enjoy thier time. This place also served as the main focal point in which the French Ship girl who is ALSO going to appear this event was revealed!
The wine bottles that people got came with a sticker of the ship girl in question who can be seen here....

It was revealed through a voice record during the Piano recital as the ship girl in question introduced herself during the festival revealing herself to be the French Seaplane Tender Commandant Teste!

Outside of that people who payed for tickets got a wine glass and some also got a Pola Clear file as shown here.

Alright, I've beaten E-1 and E-2 so far and I even got lucky on my first E-2 kill and dropped Yamakaze. Next up is E-3 which apparently has an enemy combined fleet at the boss, so... that'll be an experience.

I'm now convinced that you haven't truly felt alive until you've S-Ranked the entirety of an Abyssal combined boss fleet. E-3 is insanity incarnate and it feels so good.

Two 12 plane slots like Mizuho, highest armor amongst all AVs and I guess she has both good AA and firepower if you want to put her other two slots into use? '3'

True, though in the two sorties I've done so far we've managed to kill the other eleven members of her fleet beforehand. That said though, she critted Myoukou in the latest run, thus ruining our chances for an S-Rank.

Nope. CV are standard aircraft carriers and CAV are aviation cruisers.

EDIT: Managed to beat the first three maps over the first three days of the event, but the first half of E-4 is proving to be a total load of bull at the moment, mostly due to carrier shenanigans. I'm trying to get through with the composition where you only need to do two battles and it's hard even on Easy. Hell, the last sortie I did my pre-boss support failed to activate both times despite being completely sparkled.

indeed it is. It was the thing that usually stonewalled me for the first half of E-4. Surprisingly enough, it's actually pretty simple to brute force your way through the second half of the map with two BBs and four CVs.

Beat E-5 on Wednesday and due to the lack of Roma this event (;>; ) I opted to hunt for Isokaze on E-2. Dropped her in under ten runs so now I'm basically done. I also managed to drop Sakawa in E-5 during my boss killing runs and I managed to finally build Yahagi in the LSC, so now I've got all of the Agano sisters.

I still want Roma though. ;-;

From what I've seen, they're both used quite a bit, so I don't think it really matters. I got my info from this page (http://kancolle.wikia.com/wiki/Expedition/Support_Expedition) though, so hopefully this will help.

I tend to brute force my way through with battleships whenever I use a support expedition, so I'm probably not the best person for this, haha.

If you check the formula, you'll see that dive bombers get a +30% damage boost. However, if your torp bombers are better than your dive bombers enough to surpass the bonus damage then you should use those. The example on the page has the Suisei 12A (10) and the Ryuusei Kai (13) together because they do the same damage after the boost is applied.

But from what I've read, accuracy is more important than damage so T99 skilled DBs are preferred for support shelling.

Incredibly cute. Makes my heart involuntarily leap.

Shigure Christmas art looks vaguely yandere. There's just something a tad off in that kindred smile, those turn of the eyes. Intentional or not I like it.

Unfortunately not. If you switch between remodels, you'll have to modernize your girl again each time.

EDIT: So after realizing that to actually GET the jets I had to complete that bloody 5-1 quest with the New Mikawa Fleet, I bit the bullet and managed to finally clear it. ;>;

More or less. You can easily get the blueprints and engine via the new quests, however to actually get the jets it's looking like you need to do a quest that involves 6-3 as well as the airbases... and thus everything leading up to those prerequisites. ;>;

Guess it's time to start leveling Furutaka, Kako, Aoba, & Kinugasa.

I'm almost done with Furataka, I just need Kinugasa kai ni and I'm good to going back to leveling Kinu or start on either Tone or Chikuma.

Alright. I think I've lost my mind. I finally managed to unlock the first LBAS via the quests and this should have given me the quest that allows me to get the Prototype Keiun, but it didn't and I  can't find the problem.

Hey guys, sorry for the long overdue delay. I've been busy working on a lot of stuff as of late that has become very important. 

I'm going to start over a few questions here:

That video there is misleading, but it is known that while jets are more evasive than normal planes. But yeah, if you only have 1 jet or so they become more vunerable. Having at least 2 Jets kinda helps flake off "some of the risk". But otherwise a full battery of Tsu-class can still screw you over like always if one is lucky enough to score a solid hit on the planes in question.

You have your LBAS, I guess I should ask the other question, do you have Shoukaku and Zuikaku's questline complete for thier prototype flight decks? That may be also a contributor possibly.

Outside of that not entirely sure ATM, I will look it up just to make sure if need be.

Now let's talk about a few things that have been announced....

Arashio Kai Ni

If you been following up, you know that Arashio now has a Kai Ni remodel. She needs to be level 67 and have a blue print, she's pretty much like using Ooshio, but more armor. So she's kinda good on her own terms. Also she can use Daihatsu and tanks.

Also if you have Arashio at Kai Ni, you can also complete her quest line... which is.... rather intimidating.... but if you have a strong fleet it'll pay off and you get a reinforcement expansion out of the package.

In addition, a Heavy Cruiser Kai Ni remodel is in the works to come out in the Spring time and it appears to be someone who was.... JUST re-introduced into the game via LSC.

Zara

From what has been know, Zara is now avaliable via LSC and can be obtained if you have a certain group of Italian Kanmusu. (Libeccio or Pola) and using a resource recipe that is not too much or too little.

Which speaking on an additional note, Libeccio is also now available in the normal part of the game on 4-5 in Nodes H,I, and J.

 I suppose you're also aware that Turbines and Boilers are considered important for improving the speed of your kanmusu now right? You can make slow kanmusu go fast (to take better branching paths) and fast kanmusu go... even faster. So far Fast+ and Fastest don't do much (besides improve evasion), but it's expect to have some effects in the future.

Outside of that I'm certain everyone knows by now about...

The Winter 2017 Event

Basiclly this event is being planned to take place on February 11th. Which will be the same day KanColle will be holding a panel at the JAEPO convention.

So far we know that:

1. Event is going to be small scale
2. Destroyer from the 5th Destroyer Division Matsukaze is going to appear in the event.
3. Other Destroyers are coming as well.

Other than that, that's all the info we got.

Also for additional stuff KanColle is planning this year. I recommend reading up on Tanaka's interview from the Kancolle Style Volume 3.

Once again sorry for not coming back sooner to let you know what's up. It has been a very busy month for me.

Just remember, a small scale event is usually 3 maps big. But keep in mind that since the last event, it may be possible you might have to do some extensive hoop jumping. So plan accordingly.

Also as a final question... have you all been able to complete those limited time quests that appeared over Chirstmas, New Years and and now Setsubun? There were and are some good stuff out of the deal.

Turns out that was EXACTLY the problem. I think I got one of my flight decks through an event reward, which completely threw me off. Needless to say though, I've now got an extra one, as well as my two jets. I blew a lot of resources doing it, but I'm still in the upper 190k range for all of 'em.

That said though, my Zara SHOULD be leveled enough for her Kai Ni when it happens... apart from that though, I'm a little surprised the event is this soon, but it was expected for the most part.

The event is almost here and it's now time for me to lay down the news to you all!

Let's discuss a few important facts regarding the Winter Event!

The Title of the Event will be called: Reconnisance Force!, Emergency Maneuver! Operation Hikari

The theme of this event will center around one of WWII's final campaigns which served was part of the Pacific Theater. Operation Hikari

You're note going to find much on it historically from wikipedia but if you go to Combine's fleets website and read up on some submarines from the war you can get a good picture.

So lemme summarized it for your:

The Ulithi Atoll, one of America's biggest and quikckly made stronghold was build on this small group of islands which served as one of the USN's major foundations for the late part of WWII. It was here that the majority of the US Fleet was stationed and organized until the near the very end of the war following the Leyte Gulf happenen giving America the gateway it needed to advance closer to Japan's home area.

The Atoll was used as a main base of operation for a little over 8th months before it was later abandoned.

During the time the US occupied the Atoll Japan made several attempt to find a way to engage the main fleet at the Ulithi Atoll but knowing the sheer size of the fleet there they decided to conduct a stealth operation.

These Operations would be known as Operation Hikari and Operatin Arashi.

Operation Hikari would be a scouting Operation in which the aircraft carrying submarines I-13 and i-14 would conduct a scouting operation to pinpoint the location of USN carriers at the atoll and report back to thier other team of subs for Operation Arashi.

Operation Arashi would used the Aircraft Carrying Subs I-400 ad I-401to launch an assault against the carriers using thier seaplanes to attempt to do damage to the carriers in the area.

While Operation Hikari did happen and I-13 was sunk in route to the Atoll, I-14 successfully completed her operation and reported back her findings.

I-400 and I-401 deployed out torward the atoll to perfrom Operation Arashi. But along the way they were contacted by Japanese HQ and were told that Japan had surrended to the US. And as a results the submarines were forced to pull back and return to Japan.

It was discovered that I-400 and I-401 were armed with Seiran Seaplanes that were painted to be disgused as American planes which violated to color code of war.

With this known we can assume that submarines may have a more productive role this event compared to beforehand.

At the same time though I do feel like I need to go over the informatino that has been revealed by Dev Tweets and through Comptiq which is as follow.

1. Winter 2017 would consist of 3 maps.
2. The theme of Winter 2017 is Operation Hikari, which is a transport mission to Truk done by subs.
3. Unlike IRL, Operation Hikari would NOT be followed by Operation Arashi (the actual airstrike on Ulithi Atoll done by I-400 and I-401.)

Fun Note: According to Tanaka, this is because the human side still has their fleet in KC world, and could take a different approach.

4. The 2nd Event map reward will be the Destroyer that sunk off of the Ogasawara Islands while conducting a transport operation.
5. The first event map will be related to the Ogasawara Islands.
6. The final event map will reward you with the Submairine that successfully completed Operation Hikari (I-14)
7. Her twin compaion is also expected to appear as well (I-13)
8. New Submarine equipment will be rewarded on the final map.
9. If you're challenging higher difficulty, you are adviced to bring 2 or more Saiuns with you.

So yeah the event looks like you're getting 1 Destroyer and 2 Subs.

So!

Managed to beat E-1 on Hard and E-2 on Medium since the rewards were pretty enticing, though E-2 gave me more trouble than anticipated because I'm an idiot who wasn't aware that Junyou is a slow ship. Managed to beat it relatively easily after realizing my mistake though.

As for E-3 Easy... the transport portion was easy and the debuffs were pretty simple to pull off as well, however the last dance is kicking my ass right now. I can't seem to kill the flagship at the moment and my airstrikes and boss support aren't softening up the enemy enough. After a bit of trial and error I THINK I've got a set-up that should be able to kill her, but the RNG is screwing me and to make matters worse we keep getting hit with the worst possible positioning at the boss node that you can get WITH the Saiun, making things harder.

I swear, if we could just get ONE T-Cross advantage, we could probably obliterate the boss.

EDIT: Still haven't beaten E-3, but I've obtained Teruzuki, meaning I've got the full set of -Zuki sisters now.

EDIT 2: Turns out all I needed was more fighter power. Well... that and Kitakami critting the Twins for over 300 damage before leaving it to Verniy to finish 'em off with another torpedo cut-in.

Easy clear! I picked up Teruzuki on the last run too, which is nice.

After several unsuccessful runs using STF, switching to a fighter-heavy CTF did the trick. Even then, it was a little touch-and-go until KTKM took the last 300 HP off the boss.
