Pok?mon thread Generation 2: Gold/Silver version
« on: May 18, 2010, 03:32:44 PM »
The previous thread's nearing max replies, so I thought I'd make a new one.

To start off, I'm going to say that I love my Magnezone. I caught a bunch of Magneton in the Safari Zone, bred the one that had the IVs for Fire-type Hidden Power, and wound up with one that had max IVs in Defense and Special Defense. That thing traps and TORCHES Steel-types. It's definitely going to have a place on my future competition team.

You got any Pok?mon you're proud of?

I remember raising my Venusaur to level 100 in Pok?mon Red version.

I was only 9 or so. I'm still proud of it even if I don't have the game anymore :(

Now I feel old. I'm 20. xD

Speaking of which, I'm proud of hatching a 31/31/31/31/31/31 shiny Naive Bagon, with Dragon Dance as an egg move.  RNG abuse ftw.

How dows one go about abusing the RNG?

How dows one go about abusing the RNG?

As in how to do it?  If so...well, since I pretty much suck at explaining this, Smogon explains this way better than I do.   I guess I'll try to explain in my own words.  It's just that you have to hit the correct time, delay, and frame.  For example, if you play Platinum, and you reset at...say 15:00:00, if you select to continue your game at 15:00:15, you would hit a delay of 650.  Really, before you do anything else, calibrate your delay - it's important.

And speaking of delays...hopefully this might help some of you, should you learn it (I don't think this is mentioned in Smogon):

Platinum: (seconds/delay)
14 - 590
15 - 650
16 - 710
17 - 770
18 - 830
19 - 890
20 - 950

Heart Gold/Soul Silver: (seconds/delay...remember, it works differently)
14 - 520
15 - 580
16 - 640
17 - 700
18 - 760
19 - 820
20 - 880
21 - 940
22 - 1000

(sorry, I don't know about Diamond/Pearl...I've never RNG'd before in those cartridges)

If the delay you're looking for has an odd number, you might as well grab a 3rd gen game (preferrably Emerald).  If not, you're pretty much out of luck; therefore you're stuck with even-number delays.

Oh, and get a coin flip (#15) application.  This is to determine whether you hit the correct seed/delay or not.

If you're attempting to catch/hatch shinies, well, let me ask you this - did you unintentionally encounter a shiny?  If so, use that to your advantage to find your 'Secret ID' - which determines which seed will contain that shiny.  Unfortunately, I've never discovered my SID this way - I obtained it through another method.  It's easier to check your SID in HG/SS (because of the Red Gyarados), really.  And as for hatching, you will also need a happiness checker (#6).  Why, you ask?  To determine how many taps/coin flips you need to guarantee that shiny.  RNG Reporter will tell you all that.  Remember - everyone has a different SID.

Well, that should do it...let me know if you have any problems.

Hell, just be proud that you're skilled enough to manipulate the RNG in the first place.

I am so proud of my Togekiss. Ever since I hatched it at Union Cave it's only brought me amazingness. It's taken down more or less every major battle in the game, save Red, who is going to get his ass kicked later. Smiles ilu <3

My ridiculously overleveled in-game Jigglypuff. Sure, it does crap damage, but it's got my Amulet Coin and money makes me happy. Plus, it's the only one who stood a chance against Lance's Dragonites. Hooray for slaving through Voltorb Flip to get Ice Beam!

There's also that Porygon-Z I bred last weekend. ~64 Power HP Fighting, Adaptability, and a 30 IV in sp. atk is good enough for me.

So am I the only one obsessive enough to nickname every legendary I catch? I'm using Winter/Spring/Summer for the RBY bird trio, Sun/Moon for the GS birds, Behemoth/Leviathan/Ziz for the RSE trio, Reason/Passion/Instinct for the lake trio, and Kusanagi/Kagami/Magatama for the DPPt legendary trio.

Your nicknames of choice?

At first I chose to make sure that the Legendaries were the only things I DIDN'T nickname in my diamond version, but in my Heartgold, I do give them Names

My lvl 1 Giratina is named Lucy
The RSE trio is Behmoth/Leviathan/Ziz
Still havn't decided what I want to name Lugia, Ho-oh, or the 3 beasts yet. I'll probably name Suicun Satsuki though.
and if I catch Latiwatever I'll name it after a pop idol

Also, If I can, I'd name my lvl100 event arceus "T" and make it the last spot on a team of Unown that spell F A G G O

I have never bred, RNG abused, or gone EV training.

My Alakazam at level 45 one-shotted almost the entire Elite Four (except Dark types and Lance).

Everything else is decidedly meh.  Currently have 11 badges.  Alakazam is killing almost everything.  Several levels of +5 Special Attack and +4 speed are helpful.

...and Salamence could be the next Pokemon to be sent to ubers.  Maybe.  Should that happen, the OU metagame would change.

This is exactly why I prefer WiFi battles over Shoddy, because there are no rules except those you impose between yourselves.

My friend whomped me with a Purugly Hypnosis because she forgot to invoke sleep clause and I assumed she had. So :B
