How dows one go about abusing the RNG?
As in how to do it? If so...well, since I pretty much suck at explaining this, Smogon explains this way better than I do. I guess I'll try to explain in my own words. It's just that you have to hit the correct time, delay, and frame. For example, if you play Platinum, and you reset at...say 15:00:00, if you select to continue your game at 15:00:15, you would hit a delay of 650. Really, before you do anything else, calibrate your delay - it's important.
And speaking of delays...hopefully this might help some of you, should you learn it (I don't think this is mentioned in Smogon):
Platinum: (seconds/delay)
14 - 590
15 - 650
16 - 710
17 - 770
18 - 830
19 - 890
20 - 950
Heart Gold/Soul Silver: (seconds/delay...remember, it works differently)
14 - 520
15 - 580
16 - 640
17 - 700
18 - 760
19 - 820
20 - 880
21 - 940
22 - 1000
(sorry, I don't know about Diamond/Pearl...I've never RNG'd before in those cartridges)
If the delay you're looking for has an odd number, you might as well grab a 3rd gen game (preferrably Emerald). If not, you're pretty much out of luck; therefore you're stuck with even-number delays.
Oh, and get a coin flip (#15) application. This is to determine whether you hit the correct seed/delay or not.
If you're attempting to catch/hatch shinies, well, let me ask you this - did you unintentionally encounter a shiny? If so, use that to your advantage to find your 'Secret ID' - which determines which seed will contain that shiny. Unfortunately, I've never discovered my SID this way - I obtained it through another method. It's easier to check your SID in HG/SS (because of the Red Gyarados), really. And as for hatching, you will also need a happiness checker (#6). Why, you ask? To determine how many taps/coin flips you need to guarantee that shiny. RNG Reporter will tell you all that. Remember - everyone has a different SID.
Well, that should do it...let me know if you have any problems.
