Title: Cirno Quest - The STRONGEST Tale
Post by: unofficialsofonisba on July 13, 2015, 12:32:10 AM
>Your name is CIRNO.

> Unlike many of your nameless brethren, you have somehow managed to attain a small amount of notoriety as one of Gensokyo?s more well-known fairies. This is mostly due to your penchant to fight anyone and everyone that crosses the Misty Lake, where you have made your home, and subsequently lose horribly. This has earned you the (possibly) unfair reputation for being something of a moron. Still, your recent defeat of the Three Fairies of Light has begun to earn you the respect rightfully due you. Maybe now people will finally start recognizing you as a proper threat!

>Or maybe not.

>Despite your reputation as a weakling, among fairykind you are actually quite the powerhouse; this has the unfortunate effect of causing most of your kind to stay far, far away from you, however, for fear of getting frozen. You don?t particularly care, though, as you have made several friends among the inhabitants of the nearby Forest of Magic, including some of the youkai that live there. This is unusual for a fairy, but then again, you are THE STRONGEST; it?s only fitting that the STRONGEST fairy has the STRONGEST friends.

>When you?re not terrorizing commuters, you enjoy putting your powers over frost and ice to good use by freezing hapless frogs that have the misfortune to look at you funny. You also enjoy hanging out with your small cadre of friends, who you have affectionately named TEAM 9 for reasons you are not entirely certain of. Something about the name seemed right, you guess. The group of you spend your days plotting ever more ridiculous adventures that more often than not end up landing most or all of you in serious trouble.

>Today is looking to be another glorious day, judging by a quick peek out the door of your small home. It?s early spring, so things are warm enough that all the stupid snow and ice is gone, but cold enough that any freezing you do will actually last. You might check in with your friends later and see if they?re up for something, but for now the day lies open before you, brimming with possibilities.

>What will you do?

> Crushes
> Inventory
> Life goals

>Relationships:

>The Three Fairies of Light: Your relationship with this trio is...complicated, to say the least. On the one hand, they did destroy your house that one time, but on the other, you beat them up good in retaliation, so all things considered you're pretty even. The four of you flip back and forth between a rivalry that can occasionally get a little too heated and a friendship born out of necessity whenever their abilities come in handy for your latest scheme.

>Daiyousei: Daiyousei is probably the only fairy you can really call a friend. Both of you live at the lake, so you run into each other quite a bit, and as a result the two of you have quite a history with one another. She's your go-to source of fun whenever all other sources are exhausted, and sometimes even before that; she can be a bit too shy for your liking, but she's usually a good playmate, and she's amazing at hide-and-seek. Recently, after much cajoling and wheedling, you got her to join TEAM 9, and the other members have taken quite the shine to her. She usually takes on the role of scout in your adventures; this job ends up turning into 'cannon fodder' with alarming frequency.

>Rumia: Rumia was the first youkai you ever met, and still probably one of the scariest, with the exception of that one crazy hell raven you somehow ran into. Still, once you realized she didn't eat fairies, you and her got along swimmingly. Her shadow ability makes her extremely useful for sneaking TEAM 9 into various places, though given the chance you'll still spring for Sunny Milk, mainly because at least with her ability you can still see.

>Mystia Lorelei: Of the members of TEAM 9, Mystia is the one you probably get along with the least. She's just so...mature. More often than not that maturity turns into her shutting down your ideas before you can even fully lay them out (so what if infiltrating the Scarlet Devil Mansion to get a glimpse of the crazy vampire sister would have been 'incredibly stupid' and 'liable to get everyone killed', it would still have been really awesome). Sometimes you wonder why you even keep her on the team...until you remember her delicious, delicious grilled lamprey, that is.

>Wriggle Nightbug: Wriggle originally only joined the group on recommendation from Mystia, and given your previously stated opinion of Mystia, you were initially pretty suspicious of any possible contributions to the team she could make. Since then, though, she's proved herself pretty capable, and possesses a wicked sense of humor that pushes your pranking attempts to a whole other level.

>Marisa Kirisame: Marisa is SO COOOOOOOOOOOL. You've gone up against her twice now, and every time she's beaten you into the GROUND. Plus, she's got magic powers. If you stopped to think about it you'd probably realize that pretty much everyone in Gensokyo has magic powers, but you're too busy idolizing her to realize that. You are convinced that she is one of, if not the strongest person in Gensokyo. You've made it your life goal to beat her in a battle, just once. Then and only then can you truly call yourself the STRONGEST.

>Crushes:

>The closest thing you've got to a crush right now is your massive respect and admiration of Marisa. Fairies aren't really all that focused on that whole 'love' thing; they tend to see it as gross and mushy, and you are no exception.

>Inventory:

>Frozen Frogs x5
     >You mostly keep these guys around for laughs. Their faces are so funny!

>Everyday Outfit
     >A whimsical yet simple little number composed of a white blouse with a thin red ribbon tied around the collar and a blue dress with white, patterned edges over the top.

>Hair Bow
     >Your trusty bow. You don't take this baby off even when sleeping. Then again, you don't take anything off when sleeping. You can't remember the last time you washed your clothes, but they somehow stay clean so it's not a huge deal.

>Flag
     >A small flag with a picture of the Three Fairies of Light on it. You keep it on your person at all times to remind you of the day that will forever live on in your heart - the day the Great Fairy Wars began. And ended, later the same day, with little fanfare. Also you like to taunt them sometimes by waving it at them while you're shooting them with danmaku.

>Life Goals:

>Senpai Please Notice Me
     >As previously mentioned, you look up to Marisa Kirisame as the strongest being in the entirety of Gensokyo. You will not rest until you have managed to defeat her in a fair, one-on-one fight.

>The Beast That Lives Beneath
     >Living in the Misty Lake is a massive toad. You have had...an unpleasant encounter with this toad, to put it nicely. You want to hunt it down and make it pay.

>Sacrilege!
     >Apparently there's some kind of god of frogs up on the mountain? You dearly want to confirm or refute this rumor at some point, and if there actually is a god of frogs, you are going to have some words with them. Lots of words. You've started thinking up a list, actually.

> Opinion of Reimu Hakurei
> How tall are we?
> How tall is Daiyousei?

>How do we feel about the inhabitants of the SDM, Lily White, and Letty White...rock.

>Reimu Hakurei is annoying, pure and simple. She comes around sometimes to visit the vampire lady in the mansion across the lake, and everytime you try to fight her she just brushes you off. The nerve. Doesn't she know you're the strongest? You'll show her one day. You'll show them all.

>You're about average height for a fairy; that is to say, around 4 feet tall.

>Daiyousei is unusually tall for a fairy, coming in at around 4'6".

>The Mansion's inhabitants are by and large an enigma to you. You don't have much contact with anyone except for the maid, and you tend to stay very far away from her. You tried fighting her once. It was the worst mistake of your life. Your skin still twinges with phantom knife wounds whenever you think about it.

>Letty Whiterock is nice enough. You and her are both ice and snow-related, so there's a lot of common ground between the two of you. You like to get tips and tricks from her on cool new fighting techniques and interesting things you can make with ice. The only problem is she's only around in winter, which is your least favorite season, as it means you're out of a job. What's the point in freezing things if everything's already frozen?

>What is the hardest metal known the fairy, and how hard is Ice in comparison?

>Opinion of Wagasa Wakashita Waggysaggy?

>Hmmmmmm. You don't know a bunch about metals, seeing as you're an ice fairy and you live on a lake. You're pretty sure the scary maid uses silver in her knives, and those are pretty hard! Ice, though. Ice, you know. Ice, you know is unfortunately pretty fragile. Still, you make do. Even fragile materials can be made deadly if you use them in the right ways!

>That's the mermaid girl, right? She's weird, and stays under the surface most of the time, so you don't really talk at all. The only time you've seen her above the surface and actually flying about was during that whole thing with the tiny girl and the amana-whatsit.

>Before we take on this probably massive god of frogs, we should deal with the giant frog. that way we'll be prepared for any frog, god or not.
>We should enlist the assistance of the trio of light to help with the giant frog. But we'll also need a plan...

>You briefly consider that bane of your existence, the giant frog, and start brainstorming ways to get rid of it for good. You decide that a plan is probably a good thing to have when going up against it. It is a very wily frog, after all. The Trio of Light could be useful, too. It could be worth going and talking to them about this...

>look around
>go interfere in the nearest person's buizznezz

>Before you do that, though, you decide to take a look outside to see if there's anyone about. Looking around, you can see someone flying around above the skies of the Misty Lake. You can't make out many details from here, so you decide to fly closer, the better to interfere check them out.
>Upon closer examination, you see that it's...oh. You know who this is. It's that one annoying fairy who starts yelling about spring right around this time of year. Looks like this year isn't any different.

> How small can fairies get?
> Where and how exactly is our house built?
> How quickly can we freeze something - or someone - solid?

>Fairies range in size a surprising amount, with fairies being anywhere from a mere 3 feet to a whopping 4 and a half, as seen with Daiyousei.

>Your house is a small igloo on the shores of the lake that you built yourself. It's sheltered by the shade from a small grove of trees nearby, and kept from melting by your own magic.

>It depends on the size of the object. You freeze things at a pretty constant rate, so something tiny like a frog would only take a couple seconds to freeze whereas a large object like a human could take up to a minute or more! This is why you don't usually attempt to outright freeze your opponents, as the process takes too long and your concentration gets broken by their constant motion.

> List spell cards.
> Counter announcements of Spring with announcements of your love for being STRONG.

>Spell Cards:

>Freeze Sign "Perfect Freeze"
     >Sends out a colorful stream of bullets, which are then frozen and begin to slip around.

>Freeze Sign "Minus K"
     >Danmaku are suddenly chilled to such a degree that the bullets crack and break apart.

>Ice Sign "Icicle Fall"
     >Ice falls down towards the enemy in a 5-way stream. Your STRONGEST attack - when people don't take advantage of the glaring safe spot, that is.

>Ice Sign "Sword Freezer"
     >Creates a sword out of ice which can be used to thrust towards the enemy.

>Cold Body "Super Ice Kick"
     >A spinning kick from the heavens. You don't use this one too often, because it tends to make you dizzy.

>You take a deep breath and announce with all your might your status as the STRONGEST fairy in Gensokyo. The fairy turns, attention gotten - and sticks her tongue out at you petulantly.

>"Who caaaaaaares, you big dummy, spring is here!" She bounces around excitedly (she's in the air, how does she even do that). "Isn't it GREAT? SPRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING!" She lets loose a shower of danmaku in her excitement.

>Dodge!

You steal ZUN's laptop and proceed to change canon to make yourself ruler of Gensokyo. Gensokyo is led to ruin by your poor leadership and general lack of motivation. BAD END

>You nimbly dodge out of the way of the danmaku. It's not a very well-thought-out attack, so there's plenty of open spaces to dodge into.

>Lily gasps in indignation. "Y-yeah, but...but..." Her lip trembles a bit, then she rallies. "W-well, you're STUPID! No one likes you cause you're stupid and dumb!"

> Forget tall fairies. Can fairies be shorter than three feet? If so, how low do they go?

>Fairies can be and sometimes are shorter than three feet; the smallest recorded fairy was a tiny pixie only 1 and a half feet tall. These fairies tend to keep to themselves most of the time due to the fact that their small size makes them a prime target for pretty much every carnivorous animal or youkai in the forest. There's also not that many of them out there because of this.

> Do we know where any of them are, or where they tend to congregate?
> How large are the fairies of light compared to us?

>Like you said before, you aren't exactly popular in the fairy community. The only thing you know about smaller fairies is that they exist, and that there probably aren't any nearby the lake, seeing as you haven't ever met any. Maybe someone with more information about fairies would know more. Someone with books on fairies, maybe...

>The fairies of light are also about average fairy size, with slight variations. You take pride in the fact that you are (if only slightly) taller than Star Sapphire. Because the difference is so negligible, though, it usually doesn't make for very good taunting fare.

> Put on a look of offended shock.
> "What was that?! I'll show YOU who's stupid!"
> We'll show HER who's stupid! Fire off a wave of icicles at this lowlife!

>With practiced ease, you send a wave of needle-like icy bullets at the offending fairy. She shrieks and rapidly zips around, trying to dodge them. One clips her shoulder, tearing her dress. In response, she reflexively sends off another wave of bullets. This wave seems much like the first; maybe a bit thicker.

>"Eye'm I'm not an idiot because Eye've I've got friends who like me. That makes you the stupid one."

>As you're firing off the bullets, you fire off a withering comeback as well. You can't tell for sure due to the large amount of danmaku now occupying the area, but you think she might tear up a little. Haha! Success.

>"Yeah spring's nice and all but you don't need to yell it everywhere annoyingly. I can tell it's spring by the flowers and the heat and the other stuffs and thingies."

>You're getting real tired of this fairy's nonsense. You decide to just freeze her bullets and be done with it, sending out a wave of frigid air. Within seconds, all the bullets heading your way are frozen in place. Moments later, they shatter, leaving nothing behind except a frightened fairy.
>Lily dithers on the spot for a moment. Then, summoning up her final vestiges of courage, she says nobly, "W-well, I'm gonna go talk about spring somewhere else, then. Where there aren't stupid meanie fairies like you who freeze everything!" She hurriedly flits off, calling "IT'S NOT EVEN WINTERRRR!" behind her as she goes.

>Yea, I think we won..."I"M NOT STUPIIIIID!"
>Let's go see what Daiyousei's up to.

>You take a moment to bask in the triumphant glow of another victory. Then you fly off towards Daiyousei's house on the lake. Maybe she'll be up to something good.

>Daiyousei, as it turns out, is busy sweeping the front path of her small house on the lake shore. Daiyousei managed to carve out a large tree nearby the lake and turn it into her home, with an almost picturesque exterior seeming to have jumped right out of a storybook. There's even a small stone path leading to the shore, which is what Daiyousei is currently sweeping. From what you can remember from the few times you've been in it (you and Dai prefer to spend your time outside), it's very neat and spacious. You're a little bit jealous, to be honest. Still, it can't quite compare to a house made out of the best thing in the world - ice.

>When she sees you coming, she waves cheerfully.  "H-hi, Cirno! You're up pretty early."

>Hesitate a bit "Y-Yea, he won't even know what hit him. Especially with our powers together. What are we waiting for? Let's go get them."

>"Y-yeah!" Daiyousei is encouraged by your display of bravado, and flutters into the air. You quickly follow suit.

>Now, the first step in recruiting the Trio of Light to your aid is of course finding them so you can approach them with your proposition. Fortunately, this is not hard, as you tracked down their home easily enough back when they destroyed yours. They've taken up residence in the woods behind the Hakurei Shrine.

>This, unfortunately, means you will naturally on your way to them have to pass one of the most formidable forces of nature ever to exist.

>Reimu Hakurei.

>There are several ways you can approach the foreboding shrine maiden. You'd better think fast, though, because the shrine is drawing closer with each wingbeat you take.

>What's the plan?

>"O-okay," Daiyousei squeaks. "Peaceful but n-not too peaceful..." She lapses into deep thought for the remainder of the flight.

>Eventually the two of you touch down in front of the Hakurei Shrine. Reimu is outside, lounging on the front porch with her eyes half-closed and enjoying the cool spring air. She doesn't appear to have noticed you yet.

>Daiyousei has adopted an...odd expression. It seems like she's trying to look both cheerful, relaxed, and apathetic at the same time. She nods when you speak, though this expression does not break. She cautiously raises a hand and waves at Reimu.

>Reimu does not respond. It seems she is so lost in contemplation that simply waving at her will not do the trick.

A moment later the tree seems to wobble as the illusion maintaining its invisibility wavers and dissipates, and the three fairies come scrambling out of the newly-revealed door, stumbling over one another in terror and falling to the ground in an undignified heap.

>"Oh come on," she groans. "Again?" She reaches up and boys the other two on the head. "You stupid heads, it's Cirno! You fell for it!"
>"Yeah, well, you were just as scared," Star sullenly mutters, slightly muffled by Luna's dress.

> It's true that pretty much everyone you know has some kind of permanent dwelling place, but unlike fairies or even most youkai, Mystia has a job, and one that requires her to move around a lot, too. Therefore, she finds it easier to just sleep with her cart. It's pretty nice in there, if cramped, once she cleans up for the night. (To put it in terms of the Outside World, Mystia sleeps in her car.)

> Mystia's pretty short for a youkai, being fairly low-power; amongst magical beings such as youkai and fairies, height is one of those things that's inexplicably linked to power in some way, in that higher-powered youkai tend to be taller than lower-powered ones. This isn't an ironclad rule, of course, but it's how it tends to happen. She's around Daiyousei's height.
> You normally get grilled lamprey from Mystia the way everyone else gets grilled lamprey from Mystia: by buying it from her. She gives you a discount because you're friends, though (also because you're a fairy and fairies don't exactly have jobs).

((I've got a 9-year-old sister to study in close quarters, and she's capable of picking up her friends - though not without effort, and it varies with the friend being picked up. With that in mind...))

> Dai? That depends. Dai is tall, which means it's hard to get a good grip on her, and bridal carrying is definitely out. Weightwise, you could probably lift her, but you couldn't keep her lifted for long. It might be easier if she were helping keep herself afloat, but then again it's hard to maintain a grip when you've got wings flapping just above your hands.

> "Welcome! How may I..." He trails off. "Oh. You're...fairies." He says the word 'fairies' in the same tone of voice as someone might say the word 'arsonists'. His smile falters, then morphs into a stern expression. "Now listen here, you two, I'll warn you right now we've got precautions against theft here in Kourindou, so if you try anything, you'll be caught and out on your ear faster than you can say 'half-off sale on all Outside World gadgets'." He leans forward. "Got that?"

> The flight is a long one, as previously mentioned, so you have a long time to think and reflect on what sort of thing you want to get for the trio and take stock of the weather. It's currently midmorning - the sun is firmly above the horizon, but it hasn't yet hit its zenith. The sky is clear for now, but there's an ominous gathering of clouds in the distance that suggests a storm could be on its way. From up here, you can't see anything out of the ordinary going on. As far as you can tell, it's just another day in Gensokyo.

They, in turn, barely spare you a passing glance, before returning their gaze to the sky and the vague, shimmering outline of the Hakurei Barrier beyond.

> What's in the shop? For each thing, note whether or not we could pocket it.

> Things in the shop look to be roughly organized by category. These categories are:
> Books: These range in topic an impressive amount. You could fit some of the thinner hardbacks and nearly all of the paperbacks in a pocket; it'd stick out a fair bit, though.
>Outside World items: You have no idea what any of these things do. There's some kind of little rectangle thing which you could pretty easily pocket, a biiiig boxy thing with a glass panel on the front that you definitely can't pocket, let alone carry, and some weird metallic L-shaped thingy that you might be able to fit.
>Mundane Items: There's a whole range of stuff here, but some stuff that immediately catches your eye are a little maneki neko statue that's juuust a little too big to fit comfortably in your pockets, an ornate kabuki mask which would be a little pointless to pocket anyways, a candle that comes with its own holder which you could pocket if you put the candle and holder in separate pockets, and a cute little coin bank shaped like an offertory box that you'd need to carry.
>Clothes: All of these are way too big to fit you, and in turn way too big to pocket.
>Food: Whoa, this guy sells food too? There's your standard range of sweets and snacks, like senbei, dango, mochi of various flavors, and - ooh, they've got konpeito! You love that stuff! If you've got any money left over you're absolutely getting some.

>Who else is in the shop? What are Rinnosuke and Tokiko doing?
>We should also note if it looks cool or useful for fairies or children, since we are getting this stuff as a gift...or something.

> Now that an hour or so has passed since the shop has opened, a couple other customers are in here. Nobody special, though, just people from the Human Village. Rinnosuke is managing the counter, and winglady is still buried in her book, lost to the world.
> Of the stuff you can see, the thing that appeals the most to you - after the konpeito, that is - is the coin bank. That's be such a cool place to keep your money! Definitely an upgrade from your old box. Still, that's something you want, not the fairies. You've got no clue what kind of stuff they like.

Walk over to the food and point at the Konpeito
>"Hey, how much of this stuff can we get with 50 mon?"

> "50 mon? Well, it's about 20 mon per ounce, so you could get about 2 and a half ounces, if you...really wanted nothing but konpeito..."

((So the time has come once again for a brief hiatus. I'll be gone for 2 weeks this time - heading off to summer camp. See y'all then!))

>"Ok Mr. shop guy. I want an ounce of konpeito, and that donation box!"

> Kourin nods, and begins busying himself with the konpeito, carefully measuring out exactly 1 ounce of konpeito for you. "Would you mind bringing the donation box to the register?" he says. "I'll be right there."
> Daiyousei nervously tugs on your sleeve. "H-hey, you're gonna share, right?"

> Bitch, please. You lift like a fish gulps water. You ARE the strongest, after all.
> "I-I thought we were getting dolls for them," Daiyousei says, looking confused.
> You lug the donation box over to the counter, where Kourin is waiting with your konpeito. "All right, that will be 50 mon," he says, holding out his hand expectantly.

>Set down the box and hand Rinnosuke our moneys.
>"Well uh, we can use this as a failsafe! In case she doesn't wanna make us some dolls." Pause for a second. "Wait, doesn't everything she has explode? I mean even her Daidarabotchi exploded when I beat it."

> Rinnosuke takes it, and goes through what seems like an abnormally complex authentication process involving sniffing the money and rubbing it against the tabletop. Eventually, however, he seems satisfied, and files it away. "Thank you for your business, unexpected and possibly illegitimate as it may be," he says.
> "O-oh, that makes sense." Daiyousei looks enviously at the candy. "I hope she'll make them..."
> "U-um, I don't think all of them explode. She has ones that do her chores, doesn't she?"

> "S-sure, I guess." Daiyousei takes the bag of konpeito and puts it in her pocket. You, in turn, pick up the box, tucking it under your arm.

Did we just spend our life savings on candy and a place to put the money we no longer have >_>

Excuse me but this is an improvement! With the new box, we can place even more money there. Also, this candy is good and it could be key to getting the 3 fairies to help in defeating giant frog, which will allow us to go on and defeat that frog god and then finally Marisa!
TL;DR Improved storage and being 1 step closer to beating Marisa. Plus we can just snatch some money off of an unsuspecting wanderer whenever we want to. Besides, what were we gonna use it on >_>

> Rinnosuke is overcome with blinding rage at your impudence and ascends to GOD MODE. He transforms the two of you into coatracks to sell in his shop. BAD END
> The two of you start flying towards the dollmaker's cottage. As you fly, you note that the figure you saw earlier is gone now. Maybe she was intimidated by your battle aura.
> "D-do you think that would happen?" Daiyousei subtly adjusts her course so she's flying a little farther away from you.
