I tried last year to get a panel going, with no luck, but let's aim to get it done this year! I've got 3 people on board already, so 1 or 2 more should seal the deal. If you're interested, sign up at anpanels.com, and posting on the AN board doesn't hurt either.

Not much, just people who can talk Touhou. As a panelist, you don't need to do much, mainly keep conversation going. I like panels to be free-flowing, so I don't really plan a strict agenda (usually a rough one that covers the topics I want to touch on).
For this panel, what I'm leaning towards as topics are: the games, the Gensokyo world (and characters), influence of Touhou, doujin work (spinoff games, manga, music).
You do need to sign up at anpanels.com, and it does help (I think) to post on the AN board.
Having an audience would be great too (since I think one of the criteria that a panel is judged on for inclusion in subsequent cons is audience size).

If we want to do a slideshow or any other type of AV stuff (videos or music), let me know sooner rather than later. Not all the panel rooms have AV equipment, so we'd have to let the organizers know ahead of time.

Tbh I'd rather do a slideshow to show some samples of what Touhou is, the games (especially gameplay videos), videos and popular memes that spawned from it, a lot of things to explain. I, myself, am a visual learner and all that, so these things would help me understand than just mere words.

Yeah, c(r)os(s)play is not mandatory. Might be a detriment in some instances.
I'll probably bring Chen, though I'm not sure I'll wear it.

Crossplay is only a detriment if you take yourself seriously. 3/4ths of the AB panel crew was crossplaying but we had spent the entire weekend not taking ourselves seriously so no one really cared.

Still no idea whether Touhou will happen or not, but was told by Fingers (who organizes all the panels), that any A/V equipment will only be provided on a needed basis.
That said, if we want any type of A/V stuff, please forward me what you had in mind, and I can see how receptive he is to what is suggested.

Unfortunately, we're gonna have to share rooms w/ the fighting game guys again. Last year was really unfortunate because we were sandwiched between two crowds and setups (from the fighting games).
Hopefully, I can ask for my section to be placed in one of the (isolated?) corners of the room, then we can blast the volume up to whatever loudness we damn please.

So the Touhou panel has been tentatively scheduled for Friday at 5. So let's kick things off with a bang, as we'll be first up. No A/V stuff, so we'll probably address that with Khoa's shmup station, but hopefully we get a great turnout.

You can get your pass before the convention even opens its events.
The line up for passes starts at 1PM, and the events don't start until 4PM, mostly.
And then the panel, which is at 5PM, a good ways away.

So I guess you do... but, hey, who'd be monitoring? The only thing I saw them carefully monitoring last year was the Dealer's Room, where you needed to show your pass when you entered and left.

As it is an AN event, yes, you're supposed to get your pass first. That said, I doubt any of the panelists are so anal to check to see if people have them or not (we're generally more worried about saying something incredibly stupid in front of a live audience).
That said, higher ups may be by to see how the panel is going and how the attendance is (usually used as a gauge for whether to have the panel again in the future) and if they happen to notice people without passes, they'll likely be less forgiving about it, but I don't expect them to be actively checking for passes either.
As Chibity mentioned, you can show up early to pick up your pass, or if you have pre-registered, you can go on Thursday evening to get it ahead of time.

The main panelists for Touhou consists of PN, Gpop, me and a friend.
However, I'm hardcore into the games themselves so don't expect me to add much discussion into the memes and stuff. If anything, I'll probably add the least to the discussion. :blush:
Also, since I'm one of the core staffs for AN's gaming section, expect me to go in and out if I get called by one of the higher-ups of AN. That being said, I hope this panel's first debut becomes a blast and I expect the room to be completely bombarded.

If you want to talk gameplay, come out and talk gameplay. The panel is for the audience, and if that's what the audience wants to talk about, that's what we'll talk about. The last thing I want is for the 5 panelist to talk for 60 freakin' minutes, with everyone in the audience sitting on their hands; although if we have to, we will.
Khoa is our resident shmup expert, so yes, he'll have to talk gameplay. That's why I recruited him in the first place. :D

If you really want your Bemani that much, I suppose I can bring in my FP7 and KOC to one of the Free Play slots (or the Overnight Gaming slots).

So yeah, we had the panel, and it went A LOT better than expected, and there was A LOT more people than we definitely expected. We need a bigger room next time.
We went through quite a bit, discussion never really stopped, but we had to cut some short to move onto different subjects without forgetting about them completely.
Anyways, I also took picture of quite a few Touhou crosplayers out there, so I'll upload them probably tomorrow when my friend sends me his.
I was mostly with Chibity and her gang, and did talk to Suikama a little. Also talked to Astral and Khoa for a bit, as we crossed paths three times. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT SATORI/KOISHI doujin (even though the doujin was mostly Satori >_>)

I am ashamed, but I got it from Chibity for free. There wasn't any Chireiden pins unfortunately.
THere was also a Reimu plushie, but it was $65. Fucking overpriced!
The games were $35 as well, a little too much for me, but I would've got it if I had more money (I only had $20 left at the time I found it ;_;).

Overall, entertaining panel and amazing weekend. I'm content with all the Touhou merchandise I managed to buy (posters, wall scrolls, plushies, music, and buttons). Too bad I didn't have a camera on me to take pictures of the Touhou cosplays but more or less everyone else here that took photos more or less got everyone I saw, rofl.

the touhou pannel itself was aite. I found it was more about who had the biggest knowledge of reimu's penis size rather than a panel but thats aite. needs more gaming room exposure also.

So yeah, a little late to the post-con party, but I finally made it.
First and foremost, thanks to everyone who came out and enjoyed the panel. The panel was for you guys, and you guys made it awesome. I have to say, you made this probably the easiest panel for me to do all weekend (out of five).
Shout outs to the other 4 panelists with me: Khoa, Mike, Gpop and TheeShenanigans. You guys were great, and kept things alive. I know you were all nervous being all first timers, but you pulled it off with flying colours. I have to apologize for not being able to use a lot of your ideas (mainly the AV stuff), but hopefully the next time the panel runs, we'll have all the bells and whistles.
Gotta give a shout out to anyone who decided to hype up the panel beforehand. Specifically, I did notice Chibity getting the word out (hurray for Youtube...sometimes), so big thanks to her for making my job easier.
I got to say, the panel was one of the highlights of my con going history (and it's been a while). It was probably one of my personal highlights of this con, followed by finishing 2nd in the TvC tournament and 1CCing LLS twice (using Reimu A and B). That's not to say that meeting a great bunch of people was not memorable (although I'm terrible with names, so apologies if I don't remember you).
I don't know if I'm going to be going back again next year, but if I am, I'll be sure to try and bring the Touhou panel back. Keep your eyes open around January or February if you want to get involved. Feel free to PM me if you want to stay in touch; it's always fun meeting more Touhou fans.

I doubt we're getting a sound system for the panel next year. Despite over-filling Ottawa, I doubt that the attendance we had for the Touhou panel would have put a seat in every chair in, say, the Toronto B room, which does not have a mic.

I actually remember you from last year when you brought your IIDX and Pop'n Music stuff for the Rhythm Gaming event on Friday night except no one was really there. I was with Dan/Xiao and I think we did talk to you at one point but I don't quite recall. And Dan did mention to me a few weeks back before AN that you were selling your IIDX controller or something since you stopped playing, haha.
Definitely planning on going next year and really considering toohoo cosplaying if I'm brave enough

Last year, it had its own room alongside Pop'n Music. The year before, it was in the same room as DDR.

Yeah, IIDX and Pop'n weren't very popular last year since that room was completely dead aside from a few people that stopped by to watch what was going on. I only remember Khoa, his friend, and Xiao going up to play the entire time while I only sat by and watched, rofl. The year before, I remember IIDX being in a lone corner in the DDR room when I was working at AN that year :(
I'd probably be interested in trying it out, if not watching it again. My friend bought Beatmania from the Dealer's Room so I could probably drop by his house and start playing in PRePaRaTioN for next year if it does happen, lol.
