Title: [Art] Touhou Nekokayou ~ Scarlet Weather Archive in Japanese Red (also "art")
Post by: Dizzy H. "Muffin" Muffin on April 21, 2009, 05:44:58 AM
東方猫佳容 ~ Scarlet Weather Archive in Japanese Red (http://dizzy.pestermom.com/?p=thcomic) is a comic I made using KirbyM (http://www.walfas.org/)'s create.swf (http://www.walfas.org/flash/create.swf).

The latest one is #53: Growing Pains (http://dizzy.pestermom.com/?p=thcomic53) (and will remain that way until I get a home internet connection and/or Saturday, whichever comes first).

We now have an IRC channel, #nekokayou on irc.ppirc.net:6667 ...

What, you missed it when I updated it last time?

Anyway, yeah, I need to come up with something good for Unzan. I can't just do "lol brofist", um, the way I did "Caramelflansen" ...

(Youmu's theme for Yuyuko? wtf?)

Yuyuko looking like a man was probably the most disturbing thing about that game.

That's just an anime-snout-plus-sidemouth -- a device used by lazy animators to save time and effort. This is why it's a bad idea to learn how to draw from watching TV.

She won't fold up so easily.

They just randomly showed up. It's not like they're all each working directly for their respective Boss.

Well, Mokou's generally careful about not causing collateral damage. The Bohemian Archive (http://touhou.wikia.com/wiki/Article_and_Interview:_Mokou) article was a fluke brought on by ... um ... the fact that ... Mokou had captured all Kaguya's Impossible Request spell cards, and Kaguya jokingly said that, having "fulfilled" her Impossible Requests, they could get married now, and tried to kiss her! Yeah!

you know, Muffin, that sounds like something that could have actually happened between them.
I have seen a few doujins where Mokou's head burst in flames when she's flushed, imagine what would happen when Kaguya brings that out of the blue!

Yeah, character-killing, unless of course it's to honest-to-goodness develop character rather than just for the sake of upping the tension, is not particularly my cup of tea either.

Also, way to have Yukari think things through ("I should probably just hide in a gap, then.") -- another victory for Common Sense!

Anyway, I learned trigonometry for the purpose of making this comic and getting Koishi's ears properly positioned when I rotated her! I learned how to calculate X and Y from the angle (rotation) and radius, and vice versa! And I spent longer working on a nifty little PHP-app for calculating this than I did on the comic itself.

I have to say, Kimiko, your dedication to this project is admirable, and the writing pays off consistently.

Personally, I never understood the whole FlanxKoishi pairing... I mean, it seems like they're only paired together because they're both extra bosses who are the younger sisters of earlier bosses.  Then again, my interpretation of the two tends to be quite different from Muffin's interpretations (especially in Koishi's case), so that's probably why...

...But I'm rambling here.  Ahem.

I like how the storyline's going so far.  I'm actually quite looking forward to finding out who's behind this incident, although I have a few suspicions...

That is the only reason they're paired, frankly speaking. Folks find something two characters have in common and instantly you have a pairing on your hands. It's really the one true rule of why folks ship characters and shit. For example; this one works alot like how the whole Wriggle/Yuka pairing thing works out (even though I don't see Fireflies themselves playing much part in the pollination of flowers; Bees, Butterflies and Moths do most of that work).

Matter of fact, I find it odd no one jumps on the Satori/Remilia thing seeing they're both older sisters or something. Ah, I'll never understand you people and your damn Shipping Goggles work...

Anyway, that aside, I have no idea as to who the culprits might be (I have 2 suspects but I doubt that would actually orchestrate this) That panel in the comic before these where Aya and Okuu (don't feel like spelling her real name) were standing around made me think they had somethin to do with it, but...hey, I could be wrong (like always). Also why hasn't Sakuya turned into-

Well, I doubt the culprit is who I initially thought it was, so I'm just going to make a wild guess and say it's Rin Satsuki.  I know I'm wrong, but I can still dream...

I can't help but feel as though I'm wasting my time trying to find out who the culprit is, especially since I have no idea how steganography works, but I just. can't. stop.
"How steganography works" makes about as much sense as "what is a plan" or "how to exercise." It's not a specific way of doing things, it's a term that describes any way to do a particular something -- in this case, hiding information in such a way that only the sender and the intended recepient even know it exists, let alone where it is and how to access it.

Since I've told everyone it exists, and generally where it is, your work is almost halfway done. ;)
Well, I doubt the culprit is who I initially thought it was, so I'm just going to make a wild guess and say it's Rin Satsuki.  I know I'm wrong, but I can still dream...
Who did you initially think it was? :3

I initially thought it might be the three fairies messing about again, then I realised that they lack the cognative capacity to pull off something like this.

Then I thought it might be Reimu just doing it so she had an excuse to go off incident solving, but that didn't really make sense...

"To punish evil forces, I have been charged!"

"A hero in shining armor is called."

Well, she's beaten "a boss" (the Catness effect), so she's automatically collecting all the items (including danmaku and other effects converted into point-items). This happens in every game after an end-of-stage boss fight.

Post by: Dizzy H. "Muffin" Muffin on September 12, 2009, 06:19:08 AM
Two reasons: first, because I don't feel like Orin is a shipping kind of gal. Kinda the wrong personality. And second because think it would be more fun to try to do Okuu x Cirno, though I haven't the faintest idea how I'm going to do that. :3

On another note, I'm thinking of trying out a name for the shared-universe as a whole; I feel like there's something vaguely awkward about calling the whole universe (fanfics, shorts, other comics, and all that) by the same name as the comic. I'm considering, for the Japanese name, 東方偉虚数/Touhou Erakyosuu, meaning Oriental Great Imaginary Number, on the basis that I've started going at right angles to canon (MATH JOKE!). For the English name I'm thinking of something involving "time paradox," given that the divergence from canon is, broadly speaking, caused by the Broken History bit.

If it makes you feel better, none of it's really canon anyways. So it's just as good as not existing at all. (http://filesmelt.com/downloader/Obama_justasplanned_Gensokyo.JPG)

Sorry, being anal. Carry on.

Also, is that some Elis I see?

Finally, it's about time she got some kind of love around here. I usually see Elis as Sariel's estranged friend rather than Shinki's daughter(?), for whatever that's worth.

Isn't she a Makai boss? After all, Shinki created Makai, and as such, everybody living there should be her daughter/son....(Not counting Alice, of course.)

Oh, yes. I think that there are plenty of exceptions, though; i.e. Sariel is a fallen angel, Byakuren was merely sealed up there, and Alice in actual canon is somewhat confusing. (In my continuity, she doesn't generally make herself much of a mother figure to most of Makai's inhabitants, but part of her reasons for why she is Alice's mother is "because I said so.")

Panel 4 shows Koishi's Third Eye to be open, so shouldn't she have been able to tell Flandre didn't know what was about to happen?  ;)
Title: Re: Touhou Nekokayou ~ Scarlet Weather Archive in Japanese Red

My take on the Third Eye power is: unless you're relatively powerful in the Third Eye department and/or you use a spell card, you can only pick up what the other person is thinking this very instant. You can't detect ignorance or completely search their mind, so Koishi wasn't aware that Flandre didn't know about sex (and assumed she just didn't realize it at first) until, um, she discovered that Flandre was thinking complete and utter "hang on wait what is this I don't even" about ... stuff.

Yukari hax. And no, Kon means "navy-blue," to fit with Yukari (violet), Ran (indigo), and Chen (orange).

That said, Beating up Meimu montage was hillarious.
My favorite part was Sakuya's.

Yukari hax. And no, Kon means "navy-blue," to fit with Yukari (violet), Ran (indigo), and Chen (orange).

So that means (if we follow Alice's color power system) Kon stands above Chen, but is she above or below Ran? For me it's hard to see which is more purple/violet: indigo or navy-blue.
Title: Re: Touhou Nekokayou ~ Scarlet Weather Archive in Japanese Red

Navy-blue is darker, so apparently Meimu could whoop Ran. :V

Even having an idea of what's going on still doesn't make your interpretation of Rin any less of a headache. Which I suppose was the point, so feel free consider it a success.

Also, ever since the "original" I've been anticipating the Komeji sisters' reactions to Okuu's new girlfriend. I was not disappointed, especially with poor Satori's.

Hmmm.. I hadn't noticed yet Cirno's wings had changed in Hisoutensoku. After comparing Cirno's Hisoutensoku image with her EoSD and PoFV pics I now see a slight difference, yes. (Old Cirno had only six floating shards, new Cirno has ten-or-so connected shards/two big masses of spiky ice.)

Glad this comic lightened everything up a bit. Does this however mean that Cirno is truly the strongest now?

Head...hurts...again....

Why wouldn't Meimu care if she won or not? She wants to become Gensokyo's hero, right? Then she has to win! If she fails she won't appear as an incident solver! And why the Hisoutensoku trio? They don't cause incidents at all! And if she wants to look like a hero, why fight in a dimension of with absolutely no spectators? This confuses me so much...

And Meiling did win once against Reimu in Nekokayou, didn't she? So Meimu and herself should give her some more credit.
Title: Re: [Art] Touhou Nekokayou ~ Scarlet Weather Archive in Japanese Red
Post by: Dizzy H. "Muffin" Muffin on February 24, 2010, 11:26:26 PM
Meimu's trying to be the villain in this case, trying to play the "Defeat Means Friendship" card. She's going after Sanae, Cirno, and Meiling because they're the "heroines" who treated Hisou Tensoku's appearance as an Incident.

As for Meiling's "victory" against Reimu, that was actually Sakuya's doing.

Kinda late writing a reply, but oh well. 3 quick notes.

1) The new format is indeed working in your favor. It's slightly clearer what's going on this go around (especially thanks to Rin's graphs). I laughed hard at
"You don't care about me at all, do you?!"
; it was quite  possibly the best stuck-up child line you could've put there.

2) Beautiful song. I will steal your ability to compose music one day!

3) Wow. You have created quite possibly the first Yukkuri that I actually like.  :yukkuri:

I just realized something.  You've first paired Koishi with Flandre, then Utsuho with Cirno.  I realized that by that pattern, your next pairing will be Orin with someone else from EoSD.

Though applying logic to this is likely a lost cause...

Well, they don't need to dance really or sing all that well. They only need to make funny sing-song lines that fits their character. You don't need to stay completely faithful to the song.  This WoW parody for example (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOZBU257ERE) manages to perfectly use their own original lines. You could do something similar.

I can help you along with character suggestions. Here's a faithful version that completely copies the original video:

Kanako: It never gets old. huh?
Suwako: Nope.
Kanako: It kinda wants to make you want to...
Suwako: Break into song?
Kanako: Yep.

Suwako: I love the mountains~
Kanako: I love the clear blue sky~
Parsee: I love big bridges~
Cirno: I love when great whites fly~ *Letty is flying in the background, clearly annoyed at/insulted by Cirno*

Hatate: I love the whole world~ *is hiding in bushes with camera, spying at the SDM in bathing suits at the Misty Lake*
SDM: And all it's sites and sounds~
Chorus: Boom de ya da~ x3 *three panels of SDM trying to capture Hatate for peeping on them*
Flandre: BOOM DE YA DA!! *Flan comes blasting out of the basement and walls, proceeding to cause havoc among the SDM and Hatate*

Murasa: I love the oceans~ *Murasa is standing epically on the bow of her ship (Gurren shades optional)*
Yukari: I love real dirty things~ *Yukari is reading 'questionable' magazines while having a nosebleed*
Youmu: I love to go fast~
Keine: I love Egyptian kings~ *Keine's teaching her class about Egypt while using a wrapped up Mokou as a living example of mummies. Mokou's obviously unamused.*

Byakuren, Shou, Ichirin and Nazrin: I love the whole world~ *stand in front of their shrine praying*
Reimu: And all it's craziness~ *Reimu watches the usual What-The-F***ery around her Shrine while sweatdropping*
Prismrivers: Boom de ya da~ x3 *huge concert with most of the cast*
Utsuho: BOOM de ya da!!! *nukes Gensokyo*

Aya: I love tornadoes~
Kisume: I love arachnids~ *Kisume hugs Yamame. Cue d'awwwwwws <3*
Yuugi: I love hot magma~ *chilling in a magma pit along with Suika, acting like it's a hot spring*
Sanae: I love the giant squids~ *hearts in her eyes while staring at Nue* Nue: Stay the hell away from me.

Marisa & Alice: I love the whole world~
Bulk of the cast: It's such a brilliant place~
Background: Boom de ya da~ x2 *Mokou sets Kaguya on fire*
Evil Eye Sigma: BOOM DE YA DA *close up on its creepy eye*
Rinnosuke: Boom de ya daaaaaaaaaaa~ *falls down pit*

Like that, Muffin. Of course, it would be most fun if all the characters got original lines like the WoW version and not be directly copied. I just posted this here as an example of how lulzy it could be. I won't blame you if you don't feel like doing it, but I'm just saying it could have lots of potential.

Utsuho's sudden intelligence shifts and Yatagarasu's reaction both earned chuckles. He better become a recurring character.

So I stopped at #70, before I decided to stop dallying and just get right to the part where I bust your head open with a rock.

Not because they were intolerably bad (despite this being the case) but because Dial-up don't like 'em enough to let 'em load fully, and Chrome's full refresh is bugged, and I didn't feel like emptying my cache over and over again to see 'em. I need that thing.

Anyways, up til this point, I am mostly amused. I accept boomies to be an valid onomatopoeia   Also your Marisa x Alice interactions are hella cute. =]

I'll try to give useful criticisms when I figure it, since I don't wanna end up telling you something you've already fixt. Now let's get to work!

Why wouldn't she be? This is River City Ransom physics we're dealing with.

Alrighty, Purvis is more awake now.

I liked the Catness storyline, it was fonny. Also the stone of the celestials is not  a bad artifact, I might steal the concept for a later text adventure. Not quite so almighty and timekillin', but the basic idea of what it is and why it is, as it is not a bad concept. Presuming you're cool with it.

You've made Koishi...almost likable. And this coming from someone who doesn't like Koishi at all; she's literally the only character I don't like to some degree. This is a feat! Be proud of yourself!

I like Marisa Gear Solid. She should raid the Moriya Shrine. =[

Purvis sympathizes with the tendency to slash everyone together. It is addictive. Also I applaud your tendency to break Meiling and Cirno and the like out of being beaten up all the time.

This being all being said, there are not nearly enough buckets. What is wrong with you. >=|

Too tiny? I just made her the same size as everyone else.

Also, yeah, I'm probably going to make Orange, um, as semi-regular as anyone else in this comic. Not as significant in a "causing/resolving Incidents" sense, but. (I guess she'll probably rejoin Team 9 (http://dizzy.pestermom.com/?p=team9).)

It was the culmination of a really lengthy, drawn-out one-and-a-half-sided conversation in which Yuugi went out of her way to try to get Parsee to laugh, and Parsee's reaction was more a nervous laugh at how much effort she was putting into this than anything actually funny Yuugi was saying.

Meiling is just upset because her home was shattered, and now she wants no other homes to be unshattered =[
