Title: Donate to the Relief Efforts in Japan (DRIVE OVER)
Post by: helvetica on March 13, 2011, 02:24:47 AM
The drive is officially over, and the final tally is $4,130.97!

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past week, you are all aware of the absolute catastrophe that has struck Japan.  We all have a special connection, whether through family or friends living over there, or simply being a fan of their cultural exports.  And as a community we have come together for the betterment of people less fortunate than us.  It's time we come together once again to help those who need help in their time of need.

We will be collecting donations and will be giving all proceeds to the Japanese Red Cross.  Those who choose to donate will get our immense thanks as well as a special site badge for their generosity.  We will be accepting donations through PayPal.  Just press the donate button below.

We thank you for your kindness and support.  Let's show how great of a community we are!

Here's a Google link if you'd rather donate directly to the Japanese Red Cross instead of through us. http://www.google.com/crisisresponse/japanquake2011.html

EDIT: Amazon Payments isn't working, removed button for now ;___;

EDIT 2: as of 3/13 4:30pm EST we have broken $1200.  You guys are amazing!

EDIT 3: Fixed both Paypal and Amazon Payments buttons

EDIT 4: Attachments broke my button, removed.  Amazon Payments still not working, removed for now.

EDIT 5: Drive over!  If you wish to donate but missed the chance please follow the Google link to donate directly to the JRC or donate to any reputable charity.

We didn't have a holiday charity drive, but I'm glad to see a chance to give again on this site.  Good on you, TSO.

$20, and that's more than half of my account right now...

Paying for university and the text books for it have made me rather poor at the moment, but I'll scrounge some money up and donate soon.

o7 I salute everybody who supports the relief efforts in Japan.

$30. Every little bit, as the saying goes.
Not to be picky, but why is everyone putting the dollar sign after the number?

$20 will buy lunch for a few displaced people, at least, so it's still a nice thing to do.

I sent the bit of cash I had left sitting around in my paypal account.

Blargh, if only I had Paypal.
I guess I'll have to do it through one of my friends who owns an account ...

By the way, how different is Amazon Donate from Paypal ? The button doesn't seem to be working for me so I couldn't view it.

It's more of a rent/watch someone else play it game

Also, is there any way for a minor to donate? I'm not "old" enough to get paypal, nor do I have a credit card.

You can use a credit card and pay through that way. You just have to click the left option, that's how I paid for years of Ragnarok Online.

Donated.

The mass pictures of "hang in there Japan" on Pixiv really made me move. I was amazed by the number of artists (a lot of familiar and popular) drawing them.

$10 donated~  :D

I think its because people think Japan can fend for themselves, while haiti couldn't.
Yet people are still donating to haiti and its not getting better.

Just goes to show that common sense isnt that common.

One entry per donator, or one entry per donation? Because if it's the latter then I could see someone out there splitting their contribution into tons of minimum-size donations to boost their chances :V

(Also, the reason I haven't donated yet is that my Amazon and PayPal accounts aren't set up yet. I am planning to donate once my PayPal account is ready.)

Per donator.  If you say in this thread you donated, we're going to take you at your word and give you the donator badge and Pesco will give you an entry in his drawing.  If you don't post here you donated, your donation will be considered anonymous.  If you don't want to be entered then say so.

Also, $2000. Two-thousand fucking dollars. MotK, even if the entire world vanished tomorrow, I would keep you locked well within my heart and mind, never to be forgotten. Every last one of you has won the internet.

Pretty much this. It's amazing how much a little here and there can add up. It's just a great testament to how caring and generous our community can be despite our occasional scuffles and differences. Looking forward to seeing how high this will get. I love you guys.  :V

You are a very generous man and I commend you.

I'll try to donate 20 USD once exams are over, then I'm planning a tiny fundraiser involving Reimu's donation box... Keep it going~!

Post by: Sefam on March 15, 2011, 06:56:52 PM
here a question I saw at the tv today

"Would you help Japan in their moment of crisis?"

.....
79% said no ....
....
my country deserve no less than be hit by an earthquake + tsunami + Volcano + meteor
Stupid country
80% said yes to help Haiti .... why no to Japan ... stupid Canadians (I'm Canadian and shocked by seeing that)

Japan definitely doesn't need money to rebuild, but is Japan going to give the population that potentially lost everything decent shelter, food, and clothes? Me thinks not.

Besides, leaving everyone in their corner sounds really hypocrite, even if they can fend off for themselves. If Canada gets hit by a huge tornado that goes from one side of the country to another, gets massive earthquakes, tsunamis all over the place. I'd really like Japan going "Oh hai, they can fend off for themselves lololol".

I'm tipping my hat off to the 400$ person!

Whoa, it went up by over a thousand in a day? That's epic! Alright, screw $3,000, I say we aim for $10,000. There's a goal to aim for, ne? And I bet we'll do it!

I said to a bunch of people I was gonna sing if we reached over 5k. Screw that D8

It isn't much, I know, but I'm going out with this to work. It helps that I'm at work everyday this week so I hope I can get something. For those who can't see it, the message reads...

'In memory of those affected by the current incident in Japan.
Please donate and know that not only in doing so you will help those in dire need, but that your thoughts and wishes will be heard at the shrines of Hakurei and Moriya.
Many thanks; Tamashi Kanjou and the Maidens of the Kaleidoscope.'

I managed to cut myself doing the gaps, but it was worth it in the end. I needed to put you guys on somehow, since you started this whole thing. It's a bit shabby, but I'm not good with arty stuff.  :ohdear:

On topic note, well done everyone for getting so much already. I'm really happy to see the figure so high. I really hope I can add to that by the end of the week. ^^

And are mostly from the West, where people like to donate to others. Though, this cataclysm really moved the people to donate here in my country as well, if not because of the fact that Japanese college students raised money for us as well when the chemical spill happened.

while it may be meager, I choose to give to locally and directly to our gov's charity direct support (this goes to the relief purchases of food and so on directly), I believe my money is in good (or better) hands this way. for Malaysian Chinese Association Charity for Japan's earthquake crisis I have already parted ways with 150 this week, and another 100 planned for next week. Hear this, MOTK, we are doing great, you are doing a fantastic service to those in need, god bless you if you believe.

List of people in the raffle draw based on who said they donated since the beginning of the thread. I don't think there are any repeats. When I do the draw, I'll need the winner's postal address to mail the prize. I want to be able to send it out before the end of the month, just before postages go up. I'll say closing date for entry will be the 25th. If anyone in the draw wants to opt out, let me know.

I'd like to help but I have no credit card so the only way I can think of doing so would be to send money to whoever has already donated and live in the same country as mine so I can make a bank deposit. Or get a credit card but I don't have any kind of experience with credit cards and I don't want to make a bad choice, must do some research first.

For those who may be interested, I live in Brazil (if you don't know already :p).

Because it's the last day, I sent another $20; as tight as things are there are people over there who need it more.

Putting in another $80.
Japanese Red Cross needs it more than i do, i was only going to waste it on a Suika figure anyway.

Also, that Tenshi Yukkri is adorable...

I will be ending the donation drive tomorrow.  We're a little under $350 from 4 THOUSAND dollars for relief funds to the Japanese earthquake survivors.  Let's go out with a bang and hit that milestone!

It's ending tomorrow?

And I still have yet to donate... ;;

It shall be done. $250 in.

It's a shame the drive is ending so soon. I wanted to contribute more.
I wanted to donate a total of $1000,
but income was lacking this past week...

At least we broke $4k.

Ridiculous amounts of respect to everyone who donated.

All of us pitch in a little, and our donations combined are just a part of other donations - but keep in mind that every dollar we've donated goes to another road cleared of rubble, another shelter erected for those who have lost their own, another meal for families who cannot provide their own, another step closer to a little more sunshine for our pals on that lil' island we all like.

You should all be damn proud of yourselves.

Dammit, I wanted to put in another $40... Well, I can be content knowing I was able to do something. Only things stopping me from just straight up going down there myself is my job, my lack of transportation, and especially the language barrier. Last thing they need is to be babysitting foreigners who don't speak the language.

D'aww, wanted to get my money in through here, guess I'll just mail directly to JRC or something.

Congrats, guys! (in case you're wondering what your donations amounted to, 4021 x 76 = 305600 yen. Mind you, that's pretty huge considering this isn't exactly the biggest forum out there or anything)

=gives everyone a hug=

eh, indeed, I'd say this is an amazing drive like nothing else. As before, Moerin is perhaps our goddess~
I personally expected places like Club! Bleach which consists of some 140,000 members to set up something but nooooo, no one cared there. I guess there are people who donated via other channels but this here, this is miracles in the make.

That said, the Yen dipped further yesterday... >_<

FINALLY donated ($10) earlier today, at Raley's. There were only $1s and coins in the box, so I wonder if they thought I accidentally gave $10 instead of $1 :V

And in hindsight, putting a $10 bill in a clear box might not have been the smartest thing to do...

Sadly, I cannot donate through the Internet because of my lack of a PayPal account and means to get one...

However, I do plan to donate as much as I can muster with what little money I have via other means.

Great job, everyone.

We cannot accept donations anymore.  I had to end the drive because we're running afoul of Paypal and they're bitching at us.  So please refrain from doing so.

If you really wish to donate please do so through the Google link (their pool goes directly to the JRC) or any other reputable charity.

Have to prove nonprofit status, which I can't.  Amazon wouldn't even take our payments, they just said "No 501(c)3?  Bye!" and closed the account.  We're not even a company, all the finances are under my name.

Maybe they'll stop bitching when you sent the money to the Red Cross. If that isn't a proof, then I don't know what it is!

That's what I'm hoping.  I'm going to show them the bank transfer receipts and acknowledgement from the JRC accepting our donation and if that doesn't work then I dunno what will.

I'm sure once they see the money gets to the Japanese Red Cross they'll stop giving us a hard time. Here's hoping it all goes through okay, we can't let Paypal defeat us after our tremendous efforts! If I have to, I'll find out where Paypal operates from and Master Spark them.  :V

Out of curiosity, what exactly is a "special donator badge" anyways?

Ah, modern corporations and their silly rules. Seriously, if TSO got a new car after this, then say something. As often as corporations say non-profit, then spend the money on a jumbo jet... [/rant]
Great going for getting over 4k in donations for Japan! This community really is epic for pulling that off! :3
