Now, this may seem like a YOU KNOW YOU'RE ADDICTED TO TOUHOU BLAH BLAH BLAH thing, but I think this needs its own thread.
Have you ever noticed something strangely familiar to Touhou? As in:
Oh hey, the beginning of the Lost Woods song sounds like Marisa's theme!
The whole Kaguya in Okami business
etc
For example, two days ago, I was on the train to SLC. The conductors little beeping noise sounded like the first three notes to Lunatic Princess. I felt the sudden urge every time to finish the song.
-
When i first heard Remelia's (through the PAD video whatever its called) i though found it awfully familiar and i later found out it was similar to Beethoven Virus and these video shows the origin http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dw-vpHOfWiE&fmt=18
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tChjemnUI4A&fmt=18 i got these from this thread http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php?topic=284.0

Yeah, I know. But it's still a similarity between the two games.

One of the Iron Maiden song's solo sounds EXACTLY like Flowering Night.
Now if I could remember which one it was. I'm going to listen them again.

Hmm really? I should pay attention a bit more.
Or how about an arrange based on the Trooper and Flowering Night? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKcaK8kw2PI&fmt=18)

Yup, it was Trooper. but I've never heard of this arrange.
-
The Drangonball Z Budokai 2 character select screen sounded almost exactly like a rock remix of Shiki's theme for about 5 seconds. I got all giddy for a moment. :P
-
Flame Stag's stage theme from Megaman X2 kind of sounds like Strawberry Crisis and I know this was posted before but Reisen's theme and Megaman X5 Zero stage 2 also share similar parts.
-
Most of these similarities are coincidental!
... i think.
-
First thing that came to mind when I heard Sakuya's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQeflIoz4v4&feature=PlayList&p=39AEF78300934019&index=6) theme was "Sand Triangle" (http://www.themmnetwork.com/media/music/Zero/ost_zero_zero1-3/1-38%20-%20Zero%202%20-%20Sand%20Triangle.mp3)

Love Coloured Master Spark and Saria's song in OoT are similar at first. When I try to play Saria's song on piano, I end up playing Love Coloured Master Spark.

But seriously, direct all "real" similarities here (http://touhou.wikia.com/wiki/Touhou_influences), chaps.

Just remembered this since I was recently playing Dark Cloud again.
You go to the moon to consult the advice of the bunnies that live there to help you get to the Dark Genie's castle and seal him away.
Wait... moon bunnies? Hmmmm...
-
Moon bunnies = Man in the Moon.
-
At least two of the PCs in Trouble Witches bear a very strong resemblance to Marisa and Reisen.
-
I dont know but the first 15 seconds remind me of Nuclear Fusion
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmlNFlfrpWw

Also, yea, the rabbit in the moon is a pan-Asian thing around long before Touhou, like Komeiji points out.

Remember me?
All too much. *has Kirby Super Star Ultra, hates Marx's giant beam attack*
Let's see if I can draw more comparisons between him and Touhou, for the fun of it . . .
Marx . . .
1st: Has wireframe wings punctuated by glittering sparkles,
2nd: Looks adorable (on the surface),
3rd: Has a giant laser beam technique (Hi, Marisa!)
4th: Has a technique where he drops seeds that quick-fire sprout into towering vines (Hi, Yuka, Kanako!)
5th: Has a technique where he unleashes a rapidfire stream of arrows (Hi, Touhou-in-general!)
6th: Moves WAY too much (Hi, bosses!)
7th: Has an EX-Form (Hi, Keine, Reimu, Marisa, etc., etc.!) . . . that scares the bejeezus out of you with the sharp jump in difficulty and can only be gotten to in the mode you unlock after beating everything else (HI EXTRA STAGE).
I got to Marx Soul only ONCE. I HATE him even more than Marx. But I'm determined to beat him, if only to say that I'd gotten to his Ear-Raep Scream of I'm-Dying by my own power. (Granted, I'm doing it the cheapest way possible, but eh, semantics.)
-
Elis also seems to be like Marx (at least I got that feel of it when I was fighting her), mostly due to her constant teleporting and that rapidfire of arrows she uses.
-
Marx . . .
Well, maybe not touhou, but he has an ear piercing laugh (Hi, MUSHIHIME-SAMA).

and,for a weird reason who i can`t explain,i found similar the Satori theme with the Patchouli theme.Another similarities, feelings and that i found in GeGeGe no Kitaro,MoNoNoKe (Ayakashi spinoff) Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei,Utena (what?) Nanoha (comparing Hayate with Marisa XD)Hayate the Combat Butler (a butler with a secret power?loli misstress?)Kuroshitsuji, (Phantomhive Mansion=Scarlet Mansion) Loveless (magic of the words=spellcard system, the importance of have a significative name in magic,...danmaku?)Dokuro Chan the Angel of Death=Sariel the Angel of Death,Petshop of Horrors...
and why i found similar Yukari with Fancy Mel of Dewprism/Threads of Fate? XD (The character,no the song!)

. . . She turned the forest around her home from Lost Woods to a virtual Tastes-Like-Diabetes Candyland-meets-Bubbly-Clouds? Geez.
Of course, the promise of world domination, on the other hand, sold me on the game (and reminded me a bit of Utsuho, in a way; "Supreme power? Possibly destroyed its previous owner from within? Could easily destroy the world? HECK, LET'S GO GET IT!"). I'll have to look about . . . ufufufu...
EDIT: Just remembered a nice little piece of similarity between Touhou and the Kirby series. Kabula/Kaboola, Now (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohoXHpmwR_w#)* and then (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGFKHrYnvrk). Sure, neither of these players actually goes out of their way to avoid the thing, but it's still a shooter boss no matter which way you toss it, and on top of that I can't help but enjoy fighting her**. And then there's also this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-nLX3upQGA). Nova's stage in Milky Way Wishes. Yup, it's a shooter. Not only that, but this guy seems to actually graze the boss a couple times. Of course, it looks different in Super Star Ultra, but it's not that different when it gets down to it.
(* Go to 6:57 -- that's when the actual Kabula fight starts; otherwise, they're Let's-Playing the game and are going through Hard Mode Bubbly Clouds.)
(**Ships are all female, tell any sailor otherwise and he'll either look at you funny, politely correct you, or violently rehabilitate you.)

Pathetique. Many people know it as Beethoven Virus from Pump It Up.

Wow... I fail. Especially since the very first post of this topic has that very similarity.
Well, thinking about it, I feel like I hear slight resemblances between the beginning of Rumia's theme Apparitions Stalk the Night and FFX's song Fight With Seymour. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBOTt38E0g4)

In Bunny Must Die, the main character can stop time and throw knives. This may be an homage to Dio, rather than Sakuya, but also the final boss Chelsea, in one of her forms, shoots lots of danmaku at you.
Also, this one is almost certainly coincidental, since BMD came out before DS, but one of the bosses is named Septentrion Pleiades, Utsuho's final spellcard is called Septentrion.

First most obvious thing I noticed was that Septette sounds very similar to the first part of Beethove's Pathetique Sonata movement 3. Heck, it's even in the same key and the first 9 notes are exactly the same, including rhythm.
Some other themes that sound familiar but I can't pinpoint their origin:
Satori Maiden 3rd eye (though I also don't know the similarities of all those listed before)
Gensokyo Millenium History of the Moon (Main part after the Intro)
The Gensokyo the Gods Loved
and some others that I forgot...since now I'm so absorbed into Touhou music, it doens't sound similar to other things, it's that other things sound similar to them.

Anyone remember the old "Rumia is in Pokemon HG/SS" thing?
No... Please fill me in.
Thanks in advance!
-
Now I remember another Pokemon/Touhou thing!
Flandre's wings can be seen somewhere in Pokemon Ranger 3.
-
Has anyone else noticed that Satori is suspiciously similar to Prishe from Final Fantasy XI? Consider:
-Both of them are purple haired, mind-reading immortals.
-Prishe is eternally a child, while Satori is short and childish looking even for a Touhou character.
-Prishe is referred to as "the abhorrent one", while Satori was hated so much she was driven underground.
-Prishe cares about animals as much as people, since she can read their minds, while Satori is the same way but takes it even further by surrounding herself with pets.
-Prishe has a chunk of magical black rock stuck in her chest where her heart should be, while Satori has a heart outside of her body on her chest.
-
Oops, and forgot to mention about Prishe and Satori:
-Both are purple-eyed girls.
-Both live underground.
-
So what's the Pokemon thing?
-
So what's the Pokemon thing?
Flandre's wings can be seen somewhere in Pokemon Ranger 3.

Them Purple broom riding witches in star ocean 3 that attack with arcane stars seem to remind me of someone out of pc-98.
I'm actually pretty sure this is deliberate. If you're at the part in the game where you can fight in the arena, go fight the team "White Lily Battlefield" for a much more blatant reference. Granted, the translators assed it up, but it's still very recognizable.

I recognized Hijiri`s theme the minute I heard it, even though it was the first-time facing against her.
Either it was one of those crazy Deja Vu moments, or her theme is based of a song I`ve heard before and yet to find/remember it XD
Other than that...>_>; I can`t think of anything in particular at the moment
Although Hartmann`s youkai girl sounds like the style of Karl Amadeus Hartmann`s songs, which is interesting considering the song title; although we know where the name Hartmann was more likely to come from xD

Byakuren's scroll runes remind me of the attacks in 07 Ghost. Do they have a name? Not sure, I never really read past a few chapters, but somehow this still popped up in my head.
-
Suwako and Sanae kind of remind me of Rika and Hanyuu(Higurashi). An ancient Goddess who acts like a little kid and her shrine-maiden descendant? Except Suwako and Sanae don't have friends that attempt to brutally murder eachother.
-
Every time I play Byakuren's stage, I feel like I'm playing Space Invader >_>
But seriously, ZUN himself had said that Touhou is one big fangame series. One of the reasons he thinks Touhou should stay strictly on the realm of doujin. Many of the songs, characters, and other aspects of the game are influenced or outright taken from other sources. Despite me saying that, there are very few things I find similar to other stuff. I have zero ability to recognize that stuff.
-
In one of the songs we were playing in my school's concert band, the first four notes in a part of the bass line sounded almost exactly like U.N. Owen Was Her. Probably similar intervals or something. The people playing the part had to keep repeating it to get it right, and I was mentally humming the song every single time...
-
The very beginning of the time travel theme in Jay Chou's movie Secret always reminds me of Doll Maker of Bucuresti.

Oh, obviously it's influenced. I wouldn't say outright taken, though. But the music's still awesome so it doesn't matter.

There's a Japanese student in one of my college classes named Yuka. I'll have to take another look at her to see if she does resemble the Touhou Yuka.

Shouldn't that thread be more like seeing or imagining Touhou-related things in non-Touhou stuff? It's true that there is a student in my class named Yuka!

I don't see how Yuka (not the sunflower) is related to the sunflower youkai Yuka actually.
Other than the name of course <.<
-
Sarah Dubois of The Boondocks looks like a modernized Alice Margatroid.
Lost my shit, first time I seen it.

I simply find such a name to be a interesting after knowing about the series.

Then it really does belong in the "You're Addicted to Touhou When..." thread. Yuka is a common name. Same goes with several other names in the Touhou universe. Or Multiverse, considering that Gensokyo isn't the only dimension.
Because, you see, stating that your classmate can be related to Touhou merely by her name is like this:
"I have a friend named Alice! Oh, and when she was a kid, she used to play with dolls! She's Soooo totally related to Alice Margatroid!"
-
Fine, I'll post there as well...
Sorry not understanding what I was told...

Don't this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAy3nlATLkk#t=23s) and this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HemvoqOY5yA#t=32s) sound similar? :o

The fact that there are two items in the game that have either Reisen or Inaba written on it.
Plus one of the boss fights in persona 4.

It's not the same color or all that similar but it can see into the hearts of mankind. Soooo.

Ahh. I tried tinkering with the URLs to get the videos to play right at the parts I wanted them to, but in case you didn't spot the similarities, here you go:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAy3nlATLkk (at 0:23) is similar to
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HemvoqOY5yA (at 0:32). The main melody is similar.

Is this thread dead? I'm not sure I want to start a new one or anything.
I got to Fresei in Valkyrie Sky, and I must say the beginning of the song sounds similar to the beginning of Suwa Foughten Field.
-
This may be a bit of a stretch but:
Corpse Voyage ~ Be of good cheer! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6p1KJ1tv_mo)
Through The Lightning (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BH3wUAr8fBk)
The melody may be somewhat different but the instrumentation is very similar.

if you're talking about the new song in Touhou 12.8 then I agree! I'm sure that that was on purpose
-
Y'know, somehow I want to mix Heian Alien with Magus Love. (Both Touhou themes)

Not sure if this should be considered a similarity or if it should be in the "You know you're addicted to Touhou when... (volume 3)" thread...

I haven't listened to the whole thing (not a terribly huge fan of Miku, but this is a nice song~), but holy crap the opening (is the only thing I've noticed so far).

Wait... I'm not really sure what you're saying, but Valkyrie Sky is not a Touhou game, and it came out before Fairy Wars. Suwa Foughten Field is Kanako's theme from MoF.

Just noticed that Natsuhi's hair from Umineko has the same color scheme as Byakuren's.

...No it doesn't? Natsuhi's hair goes from brown to red, not purple to brown. They're not even the same shades of brown.

Now what I am about to relate may not have any connection exactly but it's interesting once you think on it:
Wynaut and Rumia. Yes, Wynaut. The Pokemon. Wobbuffet's pre-evolution.
As all of you (or most of you) know, Rumia's catchphrase is "Sonano ka?" meaning "Is that so?" Wynaut's Japanese name is "Sanano".which roughly means "Really?", basically the same as Rumia's.
Mix it in with Wobbuffet's Japanese name, Sosanso (meaning "That's the way it is") and we have a full fledged conversation.
Rumia: Is that so?
Wobbuffet: That's the way it is.
Wynaut: Really?

Just slowly hummed PCB's Stage 4 theme "The Capital City of Flowers in the Sky" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQAliyNOVUo) while washing dishes today.
I recognized another theme in the stage theme's beginning melody: Persona 3 Velvet Room BGM (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMOHB5AUygI) o_o (also Persona 4's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSuP-HFDU8I))
They sound so similar, at least in the beginning melody.

His first appearance was years before MoF. Given how popular L&S is in Japan, could this have influenced Hina's design? :/

Hello, there !
This is a video I have do with some similarities I have found: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1N-wPYcP58
I am not really sure for all. For Okuu's theme, it was the begining of this arrange (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhKe-Z-NhBs) by Apocalyptica which made me think about, maybe, a same way to arrange this Edvard Grieg's classic...
For Reisen's theme, I know about this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQSDf-V0yDs), but this Bach's piece look like too...and it haven't the guitar sound before begin the melody, so...who have inspired who ? Or, maybe it's just coincidences... :)
-
Mmm... I'm wondering if someone mentioned some similarities between this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmlXXPVxQ3Q#t=0m20s) and this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Mmgb9KZ1nY#t=0m29s). At least I note some similarities in certain parts of both songs.
Well, there are my two cents by the moment.
See ya!

I might be overthinking this one, but:

Yuyuko ≈ King of Town much more so than Youmu ≈ Poopsmith, of course.

I apologize if this happens to be gravedigging, but I see no other replacement target, and I just HAVE to say, that,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GXU3t1dZWM Right here at 0:17
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12AHLzW4kks And at 0:39 in Satori's theme
Sound terribly, terribly similar. I thought I was listening to a rendition of Satori's theme in the first actually.
Once again, apologies if this wouldst be gravedigging.
-
Yep, it'd be digging up this thread's grave. Sorry.
You're welcome to make a new one if you'd like, though.
