Title: Berkeley's Phantasmagoria: The Dangerous Haven
Post by: Serela on April 28, 2010, 03:23:08 AM
BERKELEY'S PHANTASMAGORIA CONTINUES, AND THE PARSER ATTEMPTS TO MAKE ART!
MAKE SURE YOU REMIND THE PARSER TO NEVER TRY DOING SO AGAIN. (http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/8356/lolberkeleycolorsm.png)

You are BERKELEY MALONE, an average teenage girl of 2010!... by the standards of USA, at least.

Yesterday was your 16th Birthday, and since then, some very strange things have happened! For one, after opening a package containing a CRYSTAL DOORKNOB and an invitation to play "THE GAME", you've found an alternate dimension inside your closet, where you met JIGEN, a GODDESS dying from LACK OF FAITH. You also received the GODDESS ORB, a wonderful thing that allows you to use magic! Past Jigen's Transdimesional Space, you found ANOTHER WORLD, more EARTHLIKE this time.

In this world, you've met ESTELLE MONA LISA, the one who sent the invitation for you to play "THE GAME". You also met the little girl STELLA ELSHEART, who showed you around the VILLAGE, and then you went to WINTERVALE, a town past the northern forest, with VERONICA SPINELLI, the junior witch! During the trip, you saved the fairy DOTSY from a SPIDERWOMAN! You found the town of Wintervale to be DEVOID of people, except for the ghost RINOA, who claims to only have lost her body, and Stella's GRANNY MAY. On the way out of Wintervale, you were stopped by the catgirl LUFIE, employed by Estelle! You defeated her with the help of Veronica Spinelli, and learned from her that Estelle has a SPY in the VILLAGE!

You then returned to the Village, and received a BLANK SPELLCARD from Granny May! Then, you returned to your house in your own world, along with Rinoa, and had a little sleepover! In the morning, you returned to the Village to find the the FAMILY that tended the FARMS had been CAPTURED by Estelle! You also received AZALEA'S KEY from Stella, and had your FIRST SPELLCARD made with Veronica's help!

Afterwords, you searched AZALEA'S HOUSE, finding a DEPETRIFY potion and one of FIVE ALTARS that empower the GODDESS ORB! Through the altar, you contacted AZALEA and learned she's in ESTELLE'S MANSION and needs your help. She also told you the whereabouts of the other 4 altars, but you had trouble hearing it, and wrote down the bits and pieces you understood.

Then, you returned to the Village, DEPETRIFIED MASHA LA, and learned that the FAIRIES might be able to help SAVE JIGEN'S TRANSDIMENSIONAL WORLD. You then met MIDORI OISHII, and a fairy that lives with her, COCOA TAPIOCA, who agreed to show you to way to FAERIE FOREST if you bring her "something good"! You decided to first, however, make a SECOND SPELLCARD with Veronica's help, and then RECRUITED Masha La to come with you to the Faerie Forest!

>Your inventory currently contains...

-Red-Black Checkered Coat (Equipped)
-Goddess Orb (5th Degree)
-Shiny Earrings
-Self-Developing Camera
-Chocolate Birthday Cake
-Screwdriver
-Green and Black Thread Spools
-Bag of Mother Fudrucker's Cookies
-Azalea's Key
-Doodling 『Sperm Fafrotskies』
-Bottle labelled KO.Gas-A and B
-Bottle labelled Heal
-Bottle labelled Bomb
-Azalea's Cards
-The Shining 『Mister Sun, Please Come Shine』

>Your current long-term goals are...
-The Game
You lost it. Estelle brought you to this world for some kind of  "Game". You know absolutely nothing about it, except that everyone else in your position has disappeared rather quickly.
-Saving Private Azalea
Azalea is inside Estelle's Mansion, and needs your help! She's said that you should be very prepared before you come, though.
-Paradise Lost
Jigen's Transdimensional World is dying! If you don't save it, you may be trapped inside Estelle's World forever... plus, it'd be pretty mean of you to just let Jigen disappear!
-Five Altars of the Goddess
Each time you find one of the altars, some of the power of the Goddess Orb shall be unsealed! This means you'll be able to use more magic, and hence, become more powerful; which shall be very important to rescuing Azalea... or if you want to even live long enough to get to do so.

>Your completed long-term goals have been...
-Stone Cold Sister
You've cured Masha La's petrification! Good for you!

>Now, let us return to our current situation...
>You are in Midori's Restaurant/House, with the fairy Cocoa Tapioca and Masha La. Cocoa has just asked if you've got the "something good" to give her, in return for being lead to the Faerie Forest.

>"These are cookies, but... I think they've got something bad in them! Like poison!"
> If the cookies don't work, offer her some cake.
>Next, you bring out the tupperware, opening it to reveal a nice big piece of chocolate cake with chocolate frosting... you can't help but salivate with how good it looks.
>Cocoa floats up and down with delight, clapping her hands. "Ooooh, that's PERFECT!"

>Actually... you haven't had any. Not from this particular bag of cookies, at least.
>You give her the cake, and she squeals in joy, rushing behind one of the doors. She returns a moment later, the cake gone. "Okay, I'll take you two to the Faerie Forest whenever you want!"

>Cocoa sighs in dismay.

>The two of you manage to catch up to Cocoa during this explanation, and continue to slowly move on.

>You think for a moment, before asking Masha a question.
>"Oh, that's a good question. But no, it doesn't quite work like that. I don't lose any faith if I give some to you; it just, well... I'm not sure. You just get some. What faith actually is, how it really works, that's a strange subject... it's similar to magic, which is equally undefinable."

But I can't say that I know what people think; there certainly may be more negative feelings going around then I thought there were."
>Maybe it doesn't make something like faith or magic, but all the same, hate and apathy still does bad things to the victims; you know that's pretty true.
> "So, do you have any idea's on how we can get Jigen's faith back?"
>"I think seeing the fairies and trying to restore her world, as we're trying to do now, is a good plan. It's certainly a place to start. Other then that, there's the idea I mentioned of Jigen's faith being stored somewhere by Estelle. In which case, you'd have to find it; and after finding it, well... I'm not sure. This isn't something that happens often."

>Her hand flys to her mouth and she goes, "Oh dear!" after you tell her about the spiderwoman and laserness. "I didn't know it was something like that; I just thought you did something silly that this "Dotsy" was so grateful for. Or at most, freed her from a bush."
>You can't help but giggle a bit at the bush comment. You wonder if fairies actually get stuck in bushes sometimes.
>Hey, that was pretty tremendous.
>Follow them faeries.
> Gotta avoid bragging about it though, braggers don't get the girl as often.
>It sure was tremendous! She was scary! And that part where you flew through the air and stabbed her with the screwdriver... that was some major badassery. But you decide bragging isn't good, so you'll try not to!
>You follow the faeries through the plantlife of the forest; after a minute, the two new fairies groan in agony. "You humans are sooo slooow! This is gonna take forever!"

Meanwhile...

>You open your eyes, rubbing them before stretching out your limbs. It seems to be morning; you think. You must have been asleep against this tree for quite awhile! You remember what happened yesterday...
>You are UNKNOWN GIRL! Or rather, you don't remember your name! The farthest you can remember for sure is waking up in some sleazy room a day or two ago with no memories! From there, you overheard a STRANGE CONVERSATION from outside the room, and learned the people who trapped you may want you dead! But as you were locked inside the room, you had nothing to do but go to sleep... where you had a STRANGE DREAM!
After you woke up, you found the key to your room, and a hidden panel in the ceiling, and you managed to ESCAPE; but not before overhearing a few more STRANGE THINGS, and getting chased by a bunch of people! You managed to GET OUT of the building you were trapped in, however, and LOST your pursuers in a FOREST. After becoming sufficiently lost in this forest, you went to sleep against a tree and had another STRANGE DREAM, where you remembered some things!

>Your inventory currently contains...

>Your current goals are...

You can't remember who you are, or much of anything else! In your dreams, you've remembered a few things, but nothing much...

>You get up, and begin walking leftwards.
>Oh man, this makes you realize how long it's been since you've eaten or drank... your mouth and throat are quite dry, now that you think about it. It must have been over a day; how long can people go without water? How you wish you hadn't left the water bottles behind in that sleazy room...

>After a while, you notice the plants becoming less thick and easier to walk through, and you see a few flowers blooming as well. In one direction, the flowers seem to be growing more common, and the large plants that obstruct your way becoming sparse.

>You head towards the flowers, hoping to find water.
>After a minute or two of walking, the flowers are all over, and there's only enough just enough trees to keep away an unobstructed view of the sky.
>As you walk further ahead, the flowers seem to start becoming... different. They turn from soft-looking and soothing into a more striking and vigorous manner, and shift to colors like red and brown and black. Just being around them makes you feel like you've got the energy to punch someone in the face.

They're about a foot tall where you stand, but the ones closer to the giant tree seem to be progressively higher.

>She signs. "I suppose I better explain."
>"I'm not going to go all the way back to the start, because... augh, that's just a bother. But quite a long time ago, there was just a lot of gods and goddesses who did as they wished, creating and uncreating whenever and wherever... it was quite unorderly. So, a god named Physics proposed to make a set of rules to control things. His idea gained so much support, he was able to garner the power to make it happen; and hence, the Universe was created in the Big Bang, a reality bound by the Laws of Physics."
>"All the gods and goddesses left for Universe, but I thought at least one person should stay behind; naturally, I was the only one who could resist going to Universe, and so here I am. And I've been isolated for such a long time in an empty void... until 20 years ago, when a newborn goddess suddenly arrived here. Her small world is the one thing in this void."
>"To summarize; there's two realities, Universe, and... well, here. The newborn Goddess' world is inside "here", just as gods and goddesses have their own worlds inside Universe. I suppose you might also count the transdimensional space between the two realities, as well. It's okay if you don't understand all of this; I realize it may be quite a lot to take in at once."
>"As for my house being in this flower field... a part of the new Goddess' world must have faded away. That would indicate something bad having happened to the Goddess; her faith running low, or her physical being having been damaged, for example."

>"Oh, I could leave. But... I felt like I should keep the original reality intact. There's nothing here; if everyone left, who's to say we could ever get back? And now that there's finally a world here, it's not as bad as it used to be. Although I have to wonder about the story behind this new goddess; new ones are not made often, and her being sent here as a baby is certainly not normal."

I wasn't sure what to think; so I avoided her, and watched. As the years passed, she began to control her powers of creation, and made a little world for herself... I haven't payed a terribly large amount of attention to it, I'm afraid, but I do check in on it now and then. I still have no idea from where, and why, that she was sent here."

>You wade through the fairy crowd without too much trouble; they don't seem to be paying much attention to you. As you get close to the front, you see Bitty delivering a flying tackle that knocks Cocoa to the ground, who quickly recovers and sprays a sparse amount of danmaku in all directions before charging back at her opponent.  You haven't seen most of the fight, but you think Cocoa is looking more beat up then Bitty.
>Although you certainly have more reach and strength then a fairy does, they have flight and better mobility, as well as the fact that they seem to be using a good amount of unpredictable danmaku with their melee. Simply walking in and pulling them apart would likely be a minorly painful and difficult experience.
>You yell at them to knock it off, and the fairies right next to you shout back at you irritatedly; but with all the commotion going on, you can't tell what they said at all.

>Cocoa rushes over to wail on Bitty while she can't fight back, and you grab a hold of her as well.

It's also quite obvious to the eye that she's more intelligent and graceful, unlike the whimsical and childish behavior of the regular fairies.

>The Fairy Queen listens with interest. "You just might be onto something. However, I don't think you're completely right, either. When the feeling of the Origin Gardens changed, it felt... hostile. Completely different. And it hasn't improved at all... I fear for the Goddess. I believe that something terrible must have happened, to cause such a change in the Origin Gardens. I don't think you can restore the Gardens without fixing whatever happened to cause them to change."
>"Also, don't confuse the goddess of that dying world whom you wish to help, with the goddess of this world; I'm quite sure they're not one and the same."
>You grin cheesily as you say the next part. The Queen smiles warmly as she listens. "Yes... as I thought earlier, you're certainly a right kind of person. I'm glad Estelle brought you here instead of someone else, regardless of whatever the true reasons behind her actions are."

And back to where we last left off with SOULLESS GIRL, as she went to see whatever animate thing was approaching the HOUSE IN THE VOID!

>As you emerge out of the mist, you see... a cute little flying girl with small transparent wings, fluttering around the flowers! She isn't looking in your direction; you don't think she's noticed you yet.

Purvis has made new... "arrangements". In other words, I should be updating more often again. Hopefully. So expect to see more activity in this thread!

>"Oh, really? I thought it might be something bad, but that sounds good! And there's a goddess? Wow! Oh, and I'm here because I thought it would be important for some of the fairies to come, but no one would go, so I had to go by myself! This place feels completely different then it used to, and the flowers are all weird now..."
> "I... I don't remember my name... or anything notable about myself really... ;-;"
>She looks sad when you say this. "Aww, that's terrible! I hope you remember stuff soon! All kinds of bad things seem to have been happening since a few weeks ago..."

>Dotsy goes on to explain what the place is, which you've already heard. The lady listens with an interested look on her face.
>"That's quite an interesting situation. Considering that bits of this area have started to fade away, I could already guess that something bad happened to the goddess of this world. But this... hmm. I'm not entirely sure what this means. Perhaps whatever has happened to the goddess has made her become aggressive and/or violent, whether by necessity or otherwise? It would explain the violent feeling this area and it's flowers are giving off. I wonder what could be behind all this... it's fascinating."
