Anime: Kino's Journey
Song: All The Way

Kino is... Kind of the odd one out in my list of favourite anime. It's not loud, particularly colourful, and definitely not nearly as over-the-top as my other favourites. And yet still... There's just something about it that draws me in. Actually, if I look at it a different way, the philosophical concepts that run deep throughout the series make it a perfect fit, even if it approaches them somewhat differently than the others. And I've mentioned it before, but... I just like the idea of going out there and just travelling, with no particular destination in mind. Just going out there and not stopping until you reach where you're going, not knowing where that place is exactly but knowing that when you reach there, you'll just know you're there. If that makes sense.

...I am droning on again, so I should probably stop before I go on any further. Suffice to say, great series, great opening theme that really sets the tone of the whole thing.

The song has this ridiculous 80s-90s vibe that I find insanely attractive, despite the anime itself being a glorious trainwreck.
That's all it has going for it though, but nevertheless, it's a good pick for me.

Anime: Strawberry Panic

Aside from being horrid AMV material, I like this for being some sort of cute attempt to delve into gothic rock but it's too scared to do it.
I don't know. I just like Aki Misato. :ohdear: Also, here's this decent fandub of the song here. It's really not that bad.

One of the only overtly upbeat tracks I actually like, ~~because it is an OP of a mahjong anime~~ because... Well, it just kinda fits.

Mai Otome - Otome wa DO MY BEST deshou?
The animation is lame, the song has nothing special, but somehow it's so catchy that after many years it still pops in my mind quite often.
~~Maybe it has to do with the fact that I lost count how many times I watched both Mai series. Just maybe.~~

Listen!! is the superior ED. Not that I'm biased because of how many times I've listened to it or anything like that.

Rock Band Network 2 with keyboard and harmony vocals needs to release so I can finish another (non-K-On) ED I'm working on.

Just a few off the top of my head, in no particular order:

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, "Bouken Desho Desho?" - We've all heard this one a million times, but the chorus to this song still gives me the chills. Really captures the feeling of longing for and being thrilled by the unknown.

Rozen Maiden, "Baragoku Otome" - This is such a haunting and heartbreaking song, made more so by the fact that it is, for all intents and purposes, the theme song of Suigintou, possibly one of the best villains in anime I've ever seen.

Ika Musume, "Metamerism" - I never suspected that a series this light-hearted would have such a bittersweet closing. It reminds me of the end of summer, vacation ending, saying good-bye to dear friends.

Kuragehime, "Koko Dake no Hanashi" and "Kimi no Kirei ni Kizuite Okure" - This show really delivered when it came to music, in my opinion. Both songs are tender, funny and endearing.

Haibane Renmei, "Free Bird" - A pretty bold choice for a theme, having no vocals. But when it comes to a series as startling and original as this one was, it fits perfectly.

Welcome to the NHK, "Odoru Akachan Ningen" - What can I say? This song kicks ass. Captures the madness and the mania of the twists and turns our hapless protagonist encounters on his journey out of himself.

MAID EDIT:

Soredemo Machi Wa Mawatteiru, "Down Town" and "Meizu Sanjou!" - The first song is actually a cover from 1975 by a band called Sugar Babe (original here), which I prefer to the cover, but Maaya Sakamoto does a great job of it, too, and her version fits this series well. The second song is just rocking and hilarious.

Makka Na Chikai from Buso Renkin. My god, so fucking hotblooded. Not only does it have awesome guitars and a kickass melody it has lines like I'LL NEVER GIVE UP! I'LL SURPASS ALL MY LIMITS! I'LL KEEP FOLLOWING THIS PATH THAT I BELIEVE IN! I always find myself thrusting my fist in the air when it gets to MAKKA NA CHIKAIIIIIII because I am loser like that.

Resonance from Soul Eater. What's there to really say? It's dark, it's hardcore, and it has a bunch of awesome animation.
